The service is the thing that makes this ship stand out. It almost seems as if the crew members compete with each other to make you feel special. The Grandeur is an older ship without the new entertainment available, the staff makes up for the difference in their friendliness and enthusiasm. If you are looking for high adventure thrill seeking activities, this isn't the ship for you. If you are looking for old fashioned customer service where the staff learns your name and what you like, climb aboard ! Dining Room was excellent in both food and service. We travelled with young teenagers and there were plenty of activities for all of us to do. My children are easily pleased. The shows were fun every night. My favorite port was Nassau by far. We went to Blue Lagoon Island and had just the perfect day ! Our room was an inside stateroom and it is small but adequate. We were near a staff hallway and storage room and there was a persistent metallic banging at night. We called and the staff was quick to respond and try to remedy it but I think it was coming from the staff hallway doors and metal stairway. There isn't much they can do to eliminate the noise of staff returning to their own rooms. We learned to live with it but I was happy with their response time and efforts to address our complaint. I would do this cruise again ! Read Less

We love the size of the Ship, the Baltimore location, the friendliness of the staff and overall vacation experience for the cost. We book a Jr Suite and use My Time Dining. Never a need to schedule an event because there is always the ability to just do whatever you want to do. The food is wonderful, the staff friendly, the dance opportunities numerous, and ports all have great things to do via a scheduled excursion or just getting out on your own. I would recommend the Grandeur for couples or older children. Being a smaller class ship I do not see a lot for little ones to do, but my wife and I being in our 50’s have plenty to do and have the opportunity to dance every night. We enjoy scheduling our dinner at 5:15 ish and then doing the first show at 7 leaving us 4 hours every evening to enjoy the bands or other activities in the Centrum. We recommend this ship for a great time. Read Less

Sailed the Grandeur again with cruise buddies. Whata hoot! As usual the crowd was on the gray side. Food and service was great as always. The Grandeur has a reputation as the friendliest ship in the fleet. It's true! I got sick on board with upper resp issue. The medical staff was top notch. Through and caring, I can't say enough about them. Entertainment was good but the RCL routines are getting old. St. Thomas has about recovered in the downtown area. Still some bldgs. w/o their roof. St. Maartin's water taxi dock is gone. They now let you off closer to the cruise ship dock. Not so much in the middle of the shopping area as before. The windjammer food and service was terrific as usual. Chef Brouno does an excellent job and the coffee was very good too. Cut up fruits and salads were fresh and crisp, especially the pineapple and melon. Read Less

This was my first RCCL cruise. I wanted to compare it with Carnival and a cruise we took last year on Carnival Freedom. Even though the ship was smaller, I really enjoyed Grandeur. We had great weather heading down there, but ran into 12' seas on days 10&11. I could feel the ship rolling, but not enough to induce any motion sickness. Food was great, but dining venues were more limited than on the larger Carnival Freedom. Ports of call were great, even though I did not take an excursion in every port. Verizon cell phone data plans work in the US Virgin Islands (voice calls incur an extra charge--use Skype for voice calls.) The islands were beautiful, and I enjoyed getting out and walking around at every port. There was little variety in shopping venues in each port. Kudos to Kays Fine Jewelers, whose prices beat Amazon.com by 20%, tax free. Be the first customer to their store to get the best price. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to get out of the winter weather for a couple of weeks. We hit a "sweet spot" on the price, very low cost, so we booked it. Although we had cruised quite a few times before, we had never been to the Southern islands, and had never been on Grandeur before. The ship: Room: We had a "guaranteed cabin", very small cabin (inside, deck 2), it had an adjoining door which was a problem because our next door neighbors had a baby that cried at night. We could hear it screaming loudly through the thin door and it woke us up a few times each night. The cabin steward was excellent and kept the room very clean. There was not a refrigerator in the room, but we asked for an ice bucket and ice, plus wine glasses for the wine be brought onboard. We always had fresh ice. Common areas: Elevators were sometimes slow and crowded. Other times no problem. Centrum has comfortable seating. Most of the times we got seating, but some evenings it was full. There was music and dancing in the centrum area most late afternoons and evenings, as well as some games. The dance band and singer were good. There was also a calypso band, a violin-guitar duo, and a piano player. The dance floor was nice. They also had some line dance classes during the day. Pool deck was nice. Outdoor pool was closed during cold weather and rough weather, I didn't use it. Lots of chairs and chaises, but sometimes not enough (in good weather). Solarium (adults only) was good but crowded. Indoor pool was very nice, heated. Hot tubs were good. Very hard to find a chaise or even a table and chairs on sea days. Had to get there early or get lucky that someone was leaving. There is a restaurant in the solarium which was complimentary and pretty good. Salad bar and great sandwiches, a few desserts, fruit, etc. Dining: We wanted early seating, but that was full when we booked, as was any time dining, so we were assigned late seating. We ate in the dining room the first night and one of the formal nights (lobster and prime rib). It was ok. The timing didn't work for us, as we don't like to eat at 8 P.M. We ate most of our meals in the Windjammer (buffet). There was a good variety and they had most of the same dinners as in the dining room. Only complaint was that the food was all lukewarm, nothing hot or cold (except the ice cream). It was also very salty, sugary, or fried. Very hard for a person to eat healthy. They did have a good salad bar. Each night they also had a different ethnic food area, but again, not healthy choices. Service was excellent in the Windjammer. Coffee was brought, tables quickly cleared, dirty dishes quickly cleared. Service with a smile. Tables had a great view of the ocean. Windjammer is only open during certain times. They close the entire place after breakfast, then after 3 p.m. lunch, then after dinner. You have to time your eating to when they are open. When they are closed, the small restaurant in the solarium is usually open. We did not eat in the specialty restaurants. Activities: We like to dance. There were complimentary ballroom dance lessons on sea day mornings. The instructors were excellent and we learned a lot while having fun. Sea day evenings there was recorded dance music for an hour or two with the instuctors to help us practice. We enjoyed that. There was also dancing in the Centrum most evenings. There were the usual games and sales talks which we didn't attend. We did attend a talk by the cruise director about his life on ships. It was very interesting and entertaining. We went to most all of the evening shows We really liked the cruise director, he is very good. The shows were a variety of genres. We enjoyed most of them. A couple of them were excellent, a couple of them were lame. Shore Excursions :St. Thomas--we walked across a parking lot and across a street, then around the corner (ask someone how to get there) to Water Island ferry (a tiny boat) $10 each round trip about a 20 minute ride. There was an open bus to take us to Honeymoon beach (not far but up a hill). Free bus, but tip the driver. The beach was excellent and we were surprised that the chairs and umbrellas were free to use. Not very crowded. There was a small restaurant where we got local beer. Antigua--We took a crowded van taxi to Valley Church Beach. We were there 5 hours. We rented chaises and umbrella for $20. Not bad, but not as good as honeymoon beach. Crowded beach with lots of vendors. St. Lucia--Island tour in a van with 4 others. Very good tour. St. Lucia is a beautiful rainforest and jungle island. Beautiful mountains. Banana plantations. St. Kitts--Island tour with 2 others. Excellent tour. Sugar mill ruins. St. Martins--Island tour with 4 others. Excellent tour. We saw a lot of hurricane damage. Beautiful island. Sad to see such damage. Starting to recover. All tours--we got off the ship and found a small van tour. Did not want to go on a big bus or an expensive ship tour. Our drivers were all excellent and gave us a lot of history. Very good value, as well. Sea days coming back, seas were quite rough. We brought a couple of games to play on sea days. Recommend bringing things to do like games, crafts, books, etc. People on board were very friendly and nice. Read Less

We did the same cruise last year and liked it so booked again for 2018. However, the ship's overall maintenance is getting worse. We had some rough seas and during that time drawers and doors within our cabin kept opening and closing on their own. Also, our patio slider would also open and close on its own. Called about getting the lock repaired on our patio door, but was told the entire door needed replaced and could not be done until we returned to Baltimore. We are in cabin #8086 so I hope it is repaired for the next travelers. On a positive side, we had a top notch room attendant, Dominic; and a great head water, Francisco. We will likely not book again on this ship. While it is convenient leaving from Baltimore, not sure if the old ship is worth it. We had a Jr. Suite on the back of the ship which is great. But, the plexiglass is so old it can't be cleared to see thru it properly. We even tried to do it ourselves. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had been on the ship once before (Canada & New England) and the cruise, our first, was absolutely fantastic.....friendly, clean, accommodating. We also chose this particular cruise so we could experience beaches and sunshine in mid winter! HA!!! Cut short, I understand. Bad weather, I understand. Crew attitude and lack of understanding or CARING about our dilema of 7 day cruise, only 2 ports, I don't understand. We could have gone to Freeport, a non-tender excursion port, but RC bypassed that so we could go, OR NOT, to THEIR resort COCO CAY and spend our time and moreso MONEY in their resort. It didn't happen. Stuck on boat for 2 days with nothing to do. I asked if they could at least provide free wifi......NOOOOO! But they did offer other excursions at $200 per person, in the RAIN! Don't get me wrong, the food was good, the entertainment was ok, and our attendant was, well, an attendant. Would I go on Royal Caribbean again? Probably, but with much trepidation. Read Less

Wanted to cruise to Charleston, but wasn’t meant to be on THIS cruise due to Maintenance Issues and a small outbreak of Norovirus. But we felt we were compensated nicely and will try to make this same cruise in the future. So our Cruise was cut short by 2 days in the beginning, then we couldn’t make 1 stop on the way back due to high winds which was out of the cruise line so control (yes this has happened with other cruise lines), all in all we were forced to be pampered and eat our way thru the cruise and at the end after paying all our room fees, port taxes, stuff we bought on the ship we still had a “sizable credit” coming home. I would call that a nice cruise! Thank you Royal Carribean! Only complaints would have been was in the entertainment part while at sea. They really need to update the TV and what they have available, especially when Seas are a bit rough and people are spending more time in their rooms. There are no CD’s available or movies to rent thus making for a very LONG and ROUGH day/night. Read Less
