Just a little background info. This was our 3rd RC cruise. We have cruised 2 times on Celebrity and 1 time on Emerald Waterways. We were very pleased with our Adventure of the Seas Cruise and anticipated to have a great time on this one. We were only Gold ranked peeps on the ship and it was first apparent upon embarkation. We chose this cruise because of timing and we had never been to Key West before. The other times it was apparent is when they had a "private event" in the Viking Crown Lounge area. We flew into Baltimore the day before and stayed in a cute B&B called 1840's Carrollton Inn. It was very charming and breakfast was made to order and very good! It was raining most of the day (October 16th), but we still walked around to explore the city a bit. Had fun walking in the rain! We ate a wonderful Crab Cake lunch at the Lexington Market. Since we did not wear our rain gear, we got soaking wet. The wonderful people at the 1840's Carrollton Inn let us use their washer and dryer. We were told that Embarkation wouldn't be until later in the afternoon, but checkout was at 11:00, so with luggage, there really was not much we could do but go to the Port. We were not the only ones in the same boat, so to speak! ;) We got to know our line-mates and that was fun. It was still cool and windy and it would have been Really Nice if Royal Caribbean would have let us in out of the cold. We were towards the front of the line and the line behind us quickly grew very long. There was another line for another door as well. And, for some unknown reason, people thought they could form a 3rd line...huh?? what?? Now for the frustrating part........After a long wait, the Guard of the Door finally opened it and started his spiel announcing for all the people who have lots of points (Emerald, Diamond, Key, Etc.). Well, that was fine, for the first few times. I get it, they spent a lot of money cruising with RC. But......when he kept on announcing the same thing every few minutes, and then more stragglers would come up and go in the door....and that happened for a very long time and got the rest of us more and more impatient (it was not warm breezes we were experiencing outside). We came up with a Brilliant idea ---- Why can't all those people have the other door just to themselves? It sure would have solved the problem of the rest of us getting miffed at the Guard repeating himself every few minutes (and miffed at the stragglers) and us thinking we can finally go in, and then another set of stragglers would show up and our wait would continue. Anyway, it could have been done a lot more efficiently. I really felt badly for the older folks and the folks who could not stand in line well. I am normally a cup half full type of person, but this kind of annoyed even me. On the other hand, we were able to get a later disembarkation time. Our flight wasn't until later in the day. By the time we had breakfast in the main dining room, sat a while near Starbucks and the windows....and then disembarked; there was No Problem at all exiting the ship, getting our luggage and going through security. That was a Very Good experience. We also were able to catch a ride (cab/limo) to the airport right away. We had never been on Grandeur, but have read reviews about it here on cruisecritic. We knew it was an older and smaller ship. A couple comments I have about the overall ship is that on Deck 5 (I believe), where the Starbucks is located, they were continually replacing/repairing the area around the rail. The walkway was partially blocked the whole time. Not a very good first impression. Also, there were a lot of not nice odors all around the ship that seemed to get worse as the cruise progressed. We did not notice a lot of cleaning/disinfecting of the hand rails on the stairs nor in the public restrooms. We had a balcony cabin on Deck 7. It was a great location for us; down the stairs a few flights to the dining room and up the stairs a few flights to the pool and Windjammer. We always take the stairs to hopefully help a bit with all the calories being consumed! Our Stateroom Attendant's name was Ikomang Wijahya. He was such a pleasant young man -- always greeting us with a smile and great attitude. For my birthday he made a 3 layer birthday cake out of towels :) Our room was kept spotless and had plenty of closet space, drawers and shelves. The bed was actually comfortable! A Very Nice Surprise! I'm not a fan of the curtain for the shower and the all in one shampoo and body wash though, and the size of the shower. Since it is an older ship, I doubt there is much they can do about it. We did not go to any specialty restaurants. We ate breakfast in the main dining room. Lunch in the main dining room for the 3 sea days and in the Windjammer for the port days. Dinner in the main dining room. We had the roast beef sandwich (beef on a kimmelweck bun) a couple of times in the Park Cafe. It was better the 2nd time (new beef and I was first in line). We were a bit disappointed in the lack of variety of the food, especially in the Windjammer. It would be nice to have different stations: Italian, Asian, Mexican, etc., with different types of those foods each day. It was really nice that servers walked around and took drink orders while you were dining in the Windjammer. Service was very good that way. Also, the Windjammer needs an ice cream station :) I know, there is the soft serve just outside....We really enjoy the salads they make for you in the main dining room during sea days at lunchtime. The last formal night in the main dining room - lobster tail and prime rib - was very good. I remember our last RC cruise that for Chocolate Breakfast day they offered a chocolate shake. I did not get it that time and was looking forward to getting it this time ---- but it was not on the menu. :( We went to a couple of the shows. Were not at all impressed with the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers. However, we were Very Impressed with Rookie. That show was really good and enjoyable! I wish his band would have played by the pool and in other areas of the ship. We did not go on any shore excursions. Our first stop, Port Canaveral, it was raining.All of the water based shore excursions were canceled. We would not have minded just walking around, but you can't get anywhere without taking a bus. When we go on cruises, we like to be able to walk into town, or to a beach and explore on our own. That is one of the reasons why we rated this cruise so low ---- the lack of being able to do that in both Port Canaveral and Miami. It was nice to finally be able to do that in Key West. We arrived an hour earlier and departed an hour earlier than it was originally planned. We walked to the Southernmost point in the Continental USA and meandered back, doing some shopping along the way; had lunch on the ship and went back out for more exploring. Was a nice way to spend my birthday :) And, yes, I wore a tiara :) We then went to Coco Cay. It was a nice, relaxing beach and pool day for us. We walked all around (where it was open). Not a large isle. Beware.....it looked like they rake the sand and sandy pathways, But there are small and large coral type rocks everywhere. If you have tender feet, you might want to put your flip flops on while going on the paths to/from places. The ocean water was great -- a bit cooler than the pool on the Grandeur (which was a bit warm). The pool was very nice and big enough to swim and make your way around the different areas. The liner in the pool was not intact in places, especially around the 0 entry area where the little kids were and the steps near there. Those steps could be very dangerous and I had to be careful stepping up and out of the pool there. Something RC Needs to fix before someone gets hurt. The swim up bar was packed and it is a lot easier to get a drink on the dry side of it. Speaking of drinks ---- we don't think they use the best alcohol to mix their drinks there. On a brighter note, we thought the food was better than most of the food on the ship. Yummy Mexican food and a good Cuban sandwich. We did not buy the balloon ride nor any of the waterpark extra fee things. I think Snorkel equipment should be a freebee. It would have been nice to be able to do that. We had no problem finding 2 lounge chairs and table an umbrella on the beach side; but harder to find 2 chairs together near the pool (with some shade). We Really enjoyed the pool! Plenty of room for all the people. The pool on the Grandeur has a very small space that is not just for sitting in the water, and then 99% of the people in the pool part of the pool just stand and watch the TV. Not great for someone who would like to do a little bit of swimming or moving around at all in the pool. So, I was really glad for the Coco Cay pool! We had 2 sea days on the way back. The first day was nice and warm, the 2nd day got cooler and cooler, of course. It was pleasant. Had time to read and took walks around the ship on deck 5, having to detour when parts of it were closed off for some reason or another. Saw some dolphins swimming along one day and that was really fun! We did see dolphins at the dock at Cape Canaveral and I have a picture of one that caught a fish for breakfast. That was really cool! Regarding the Beverage Package and the bartenders......It seemed to us that the only bartenders who automatically gave us "the good stuff" was Christonio -- in the Viking Crown Lounge. He also knew how to make drinks, even if not on the "menu". And Amit in the Lobby Bar was very good and friendly. Deborah at the Scooner bar did a good job for us one day. All the other bars/bartenders, if you don't specify a certain liquor, they give you the "house" or lower quality brand --- in our experience anyway and a lot of the bartenders made the same drink differently. I'm glad we were able to get away before the cold and snow of winter sets in. Grandeur has been sold (to another RC part of their company, I think). There were A Lot of people on the ship that were Regulars on Grandeur. Sometimes it seemed like we were invading "their space/special club". There were a lot more people on this cruise that talked/bragged about their status than in all the cruises (6 of them so far) we have been on, put together. All in all, I would not go on this ship and go with this itinerary again. Our other cruises were much more enjoyable in every way. We went on this cruise because we won a "free" cruise from listening to a time share presentation. (Hubby and I have sailed on Carnival before but this was our first time on Royal Caribbean). By the time we upgraded to a cabin with a view (no balcony) and paid the taxes and fees it was far from free.. Embarkation was a nightmare. We received an email the day before saying the ship would arrive late and that we should arrive between 5-7 pm. Apparently all the other passengers received the same e-mail because it looked like everyone was arriving at once. Traffic was a nightmare and dangerous. Stood in line for an hour. Once we finally got on the ship we were in our room for a couple minutes when a crew member came in and said we had to go to the muster drill. Some passengers were not even on the ship yet. Then we went to the main dining room where there was open seating for dinner. Service was very slow and food was okay. We heard later that it was a rough trip back and even the crew got sick. So I'm willing to give them a break, but it wasn't a great first impression. Our cabin was nice enough and bed was comfortable. There was enough storage but the bathroom was small. We usually had breakfast in Windjammer and it was okay. Omelet made to order was good. Lunch in Main Dining Room (MDR) was good but slow. We ate dinner in the MDR every night. It was good but there wasn't much variety. Steak was too thin. The desserts and service were very good. Our cabin steward, Oliver, did a good job keeping ice bucket filled for my husband's bum knee. The decor of the ship is nice and understated. There are kiosks that give directions, what's happening on the ship, and menus. Good job on those. We docked in Bermuda on the third night. Arrival there is another story but we did get our overnight and partial day. Before that we went to a couple of lectures about Bermuda which were interesting. We took a shore excursion to a secluded beach that included lunch, beach equipment, access to a nature reserve, and rum swizzles. My lunch (local fish sandwich) and swizzles were good. The man who served us did a good job. But the beach was rocky and we spent almost as much time getting to the beach and back (almost an hour each way) as we did at the beach. On the way the bus driver told us about Bermuda but didn't talk much on the way back. Bermuda was not really what I expected. There were very few flowers. There were lots of colorful houses close together. I certainly wouldn't want to drive on the island. We also took the tour of the ship's kitchen with brunch and unlimited mimosas. Tour was interesting but wasn't thrilled about the brunch menu. I got a refreshment package and enjoyed the mocktails. The hot tubs were too hot. On the last day there was a very nice salute to veterans ceremony. Beatlemania was a good show. Broadway was so-so. I didn't know many of the songs but there was a live band. On the last night the show wasn't presented because the ship was rocking. One of the two comedians was okay. I didn't appreciate the literal bathroom humor from both. Disembarking wasn't as bad as embarkation but was late. I probably would not go on this particular cruise again but I would consider cruising on Royal Caribbean again. Read Less

This was our first Canada New England cruise. If we were to do this again... we would definitely not go in late September or October. The weather is to iffy and uncertain. The Lady G was put to the test this trip. First we were 9 hours late leaving Port of Baltimore. We never got a real honest explanation as to why. Non-mechanical some say, whatever that meant. Then she faced a Category 1 tropical storm Nor'easter which quickly came up the coast. This storm created 50 foot waves which caused 30 to 40 foot swells. The ship rocked back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. You literally walked from this wall to that wall. It was crazy. These swells also created havoc in the galleys on Decks 4, 5 and 9. Food was flying off shelves and counters as witnessed during a galley tour on Deck 5. Dishes were crashing in the dining room falling off the waiter stations. It truly was crazy. The bad storm also created changes in the itinerary. We got onto Boston late. We only had 2 to 3 hours off the ship before having to sail onto Portland. That day was nice. Extremely windy but sunny. We left and then were told RCCL cancelled our next port, St. John and would have a sea day to Bar Harbor. As the weather was getting worse we knew our chances of tendering were slim. We got all the way to BH only to be told nope water too dangerous to render. We are heading BACK to Boston! We thought the trip was over. We got back to Boston to find out the ship was still having non-mechanical issues and had to be repaired! The one thing that all paying cruisers deserve is to be told the honest truth about every aspect of troubles regardless of what they are. We stayed in Boston and then headed back UP to Halifax. So we have now missed 2 of 5 ports. I will say that Halifax was a good day. Stable weather and actually got to go on an excursion to Peggy's Cove which I recommend highly. I forgot to mention that all excursions were cancelled in Boston (first visit) and St. John. So, aside from the awful weather which caused the 1800 passengers to be stranded inside finding things to do. We made the best of it. We kept ourselves busy and got lots of rest. I will say that the constant rocking motion of the ship put you right to sleep. My husband is in a wheelchair so we prefer a smaller ship because we aren't able to fully utilize all the bells and whistles the larger ships offer, that's ok for us. This was our 3rd cruise on the Grandeur and we booked our next trip for March 6 2021- a 12 day Southern Caribbean trip. The Lady G's final days. As sad as we are to see the Grandeur retire we are thrilled beyond words that RCCL is bringing the Enchantment back!! Except for the unfortunate weather, there wasn't anything we would change. Booked to travel with friends, who later backed out. Between the Coast Guard and the weather nothing came off as scheduled.departure was delayed by at least 8 hours due to "non-mechanical" problems found during Coast Guard inspection. Arrived in Boston at 4:00 pm and all excursions cancelled. Missed total of 2 ports of call. To their credit the line refunded 2 days of cruise to our on board account. 40 knot winds and 12-15 ft swells kept everyone on their toes. Can't fault the Captain for changes to keep us out of the worst of the storm. Food was fine in both dinning room and up stairs. Service was at the level to be expected.Ship in reasonable shape for being 24 yo. Entertainment was quite good. The ventriloquist and magician/mentalist were superb. Cabin was clean and room steward excellent. Only fault would have been that the crew had no "plan B" for extra sea days. No additional activities, so about there was a lot of time to fill. I'd bet the bar and casino revenues were quite good. Read Less

We were on this ship 2 years ago going south and weren't really impressed but only went this trip because of the 9 nights we would suppose to be in port 5 days - didn't happen. A week prior to boarding we got an email that said due to a coast guard inspection don't show up until noon - no big deal. The boat did not leave until the following morning. It then didn't pull into boston until 3pm and there was absolutely no transportation and they canceled all shore tours. Went to Portland and then to Bar Harbor which they canceled because their "life boats" couldn't tender because of the winds - even though Bar Harbor has commercial tenders that could have been used - that's on Royal Caribbean. Then they announced that Saint Johns had been canceled even though the weather for the following day was 50, 6MPH and cloudy. So they decide to go BACK to Boston - are you kidding me. Back to boston then we hiked it all the way back to Halifax. Due to a tropical depression we were then late into Baltimore by 7 hours. The boat is aged and can't support a cold weather cruise. seating everywhere is limited. They have a majority (or lack there of) the entertainment on the Centrium deck 4 which has very limited seating. The two musical groups were on the ship two years ago. Upon getting on the ship, you could not get a seat anywhere on deck 9 and people were sitting out in the cold on lounge chairs by the pool I saw one staff member bussing tables - it was not a good situation. We have been on over 20 cruises and the food was par with golden coral buffet. the only worse food we experienced was on NCL. The buffet the food was luke warm at best. They did have a wide variety though. The dining room was so so. Twice my wife's good was cold and you can't blame the waiters, that's on the kitchen. I order a steak one night and it was maybe a 1/4 inch thick. A miller light was 8.56 and I order Manhattans which of the 7 I ordered 5 came that were 3/4 full - !5 bucks a pop. The room was okay, we did an inside because I knew the weather would be cold and windy. The room steward was great. Our waiters were also great. It seems that every time the ship would make an announcement they were wrong or didn't want to tell us what was going on up front. If they said we were pulling in late and would be there at 12, we got there at 3. We've been on numerous royal Caribbean ships and this ship is not representative of the company. I think they have a captive audience in Baltimore. I also think that the ship has operated in a subpar mode so long they think it's acceptable and the norm. Please just open a dining room. We have been on over 15 cruises and the food was awful in the dining room and the buffet. We had to purchase Specialty dining to get something decent to eat. How can they ruin desserts. Everything was bad. That is the worst food we ever have had. The room was okay, we did an inside because I knew the weather would be cold and windy. The room steward was great. The room sucked. They make the bed up and on one side is barely enough room to get by. I fell the first day before we even left because I was putting things away and my foot got caught in that little space and I went flying into a little table. I went to the doctors. That place is okay but I wouldn't want to be dying and be at sea. Everything is old in there and they didn't even have a gown for me to put on. The xray machine was from 1950. Anyway I came home had xray done again. No broken ribs but it is three plus weeks and I am still suffering from rib pain. The entire cruise I was in Pain. Our waiters were also great. It seems that every time the ship would make an announcement they were wrong or didn't want to tell us what was going on up front. If they said we were pulling in late and would be there at 12, we got there at 3. We did get refunded for two days but really. The cruise was boring. The food was bad. The entertainment was typical. Everyplace was crowded. The boat needs a makeover and a new chef. Also since this seems to have happened before maybe RC should avoid any October cruises or get a better boat. I am not interested in cruising on RC ever. Read Less

We picked this cruise due to its leaving from Baltimore. I went with my sister, who lives in Baltimore. Boarding was easy, luggage showed up quickly, got into room at 1:00. Food: Main dining room excellent for dinner. Didnt really spend much time there for breakfast or lunch Windjammer - this is where we had most breakfast and lunch. Buffett wasnt bad except beware the buffet eggs!! Probably worth the line for fresh omletts, but we didnt. Park Caffe- tried 1st night with munchies, NOT GOOD Service... Excellent thru out ship. Bartenders, hosts, waiters, room service, room steward, all outstanding! Room: We were in 3558 a oceanview. Room was spotless, roomy enough, bathroom tight. Hard not to get the floor wet when showering. We spent most of time in the Centrum, band was excellent, other shows good however we never made it to the theatre. Too busy!! Good time. would do again Read Less

My husband and I took my parents on this cruise with the intentions that this cruise was all about them. My mom cannot walk that far and I felt a smaller ship would make her cruise more enjoyable for her. The service that we received from the staff was outstanding. My husband and I have been on many cruises and have never had service like we did on this ship. We do feel because we were on a smaller ship and not one of those mega ships that the crew is able to really go above and beyond to their passengers. We ate at Chops Grille twice and Giovanni’s once and the food was fantastic! The food in the main dining room was excellent. Any restaurants that we ate at, if my mom wanted something that was not on the menu they always met her requests. This ship also recognizes Veterans and has a very moving ceremony in the main atrium. If you are looking for impeccable service and a smaller ship I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line! Read Less

I live in Baltimore, so no need for hotel, etc. Both embarkation (getting to the port earlier helps) and disembarkation went very well! Since I was in some pain due to a back problem, I basically took it easy this cruise, although I did get off the ship at Bermuda and Coco Cay. Was very nice what they constructed at Coco Cay, although I did miss the walking paths they used to have through the woods. It appears that every time I'm on this ship I find it more enjoyable and am fitting in better as far as the food, service and activities go. I particularly liked the fact that they are starting to spend more time doing karaoke (my favorite activity)! My cabin attendant, Cornelius, was a blast and did an excellent job! I traveled by myself this time and ate all my meals at the buffet. Will be cruising again on November 30th. Read Less

We desired a cruise out of our local port, Baltimore, for convenience. We did this same itinerary out of Cape Liberty on a different boat in 2010. We were able to get on the boat in the late morning, providing an extra day of onboard fun. We left on time. Ship was clean and crew as friendly as last time. Captain did an exquisite job of dodging three hurricanes and we ended up with beautiful weather on every day. Shout out to our cabin steward; cabin was well kept and he was extremely responsive. Food was a C+ -- Windjammer lacked variety and main dining room was literally serving the exact same menus as two years ago. Entertainment was a B+, with a pop cover band, enrichment talks, and educational art auctions. Only complaint was the dining staff. There was a bit of a language barrier and they interrupted our table conversations too often. A smaller ship, like Grandeur, has its pros and cons. We met dozens of people that we kept meeting up with throughout the cruise. That never happened on the larger ships. We would definitely sail on Grandeur again, but wish they offered more itineraries out of Baltimore. Read Less

Outdated boat with outdated activities and entertainment, if you are over 75 you will have a decent time as the boat is small. The entire boat looks like the it is straight out of the 70’s... with outdated furniture and carpet. The bathrooms smelled like mold and mildew and using it just adds to the gross smell. The boat is past due for dry dock. I’m a bit surprised this is a Royal Caribbean boat. My stateroom shower uses shower curtains that never completely dry, with noticeable mildew growing on the surface. The fact that you have to touch the toilet lids to flush the toilet shows how outdated the boat is. The food was decent but could’ve been better for the prices we pay. The constant selling of drinks and packages became annoying and there was absolutely nothing to see in Bermuda. If you want an overpriced quick getaway on an old moldy outdated boat, this is the vacation for you. Read Less

Walt Okon =Review of GRANDEUR OF THE SEAS on 5- 14 September 2019 in room Grand Suite #8016 Grand Suite # 8016 is located on the eighth deck, port side (Left Side) of the ship. 1/3 of the way from the bow of the ship. Stateroom Attendant was Dominic Moses. He was excellent in all respects. This room was perfectly clean and set up for us. We use sanitizer wipes on everything and inside every drawer. There was no dust anywhere. Temperature control: the system worked perfectly, best control of any room I every had. The mini refrigerator keeps everything very cold. Lighting: Excellent on the complete lighting system and controls. Balcony: Large with table and four chairs and two excellent lounge chairs. Bed: King size with luxurious bedding. The mattress was good but did have the middle high point. We had good sleep every night. Storage: Three large hanging closets and 16 drawers. Lots of storage. The only concern was noise from the ninth deck (pool deck) when they moved furniture, the noise was unbearable. Crew Staff: All very friendly and all were excellent. I cannot say enough excellent things about them. Food: Royal Caribbean food quality has diminished in the past five years because Royal in buying bulk frozen foods that are just cook. Example; hash brown potatoes come in the perfect size and portion that are just fried and served. These and many others are not fresh, but frozen stock. Now York stake and prime rib is so thin the quality taste is not possible. Frozen prepackaged items are served with excellent presentation; but the fresh taste is not there. Royal food quality had been diminished over the years. This is due to Royal Caribbean corporation doing mass food buys/contracts. The corporation is buying food in mass like McDonalds. Cooks can only do their best with the food supplies provided by the corporation. Clam Chowder was soupy and tasteless – worst clam chowder ever. Crab Cake tasted more of bread consistency than crab. Minestrone soup at lunch in Gatsby served with the soup spilled over the cup and down into the serving dish -poor presentation. Dining Room: Great Gatsby main dining is on deck 4 and 5. The staff of head waiters, waiter, and assistant waiters have maintained this restaurant with grandeur and excellence. Dress is formal on formal nights and Smart casual at all other times. Head waiters, waiter, and assistant waiters were all excellent to outstanding. Food quality is only fair to good (3 stars at best). Again, this is due to Royal Caribbean corporation doing mass food buys/contracts. Cooks can only do their best with the food supplies provided by the corporation. Specialty Restaurant: Chop Grill. We had an excellent and very pleasant breakfast in the Chop Grill every morning. Fine dining, perfectly clean lining and dining setting every time. Waiters all excellent. They were very attentive and receptive to all special dining request. Excellent food preparation and presentation. Some frozen prepackaged items are served with excellent presentation; but the fresh taste is not there. Crown & Anchor: Diane Megumi, Loyalty Ambassador Miss Diane Megumi was the Loyalty Ambassador on this cruise. She made herself available and attentive to every question and need. She is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the Royal programs and knows how to provide solutions quickly. I personally brought a new first-time cruiser couple to her and she quickly enabled them as Crown & Anchor members. Concierge Lounge: Dudley Jean, Concierge Concierge Club Lounge is on Deck 11 is a private club lounge with a very advantageous view is the ship and ocean. It is a sound proof room enabling quiet conversations. It is managed by Concierge Dudley Jean and two attentive bar waiters. The ambience is excellent. Continental breakfast and special coffee were not always set up and ready in the lounge daily at 7:00 AM. Diamond Lounge: Ilona Tsyhaniuk, Diamond Concierge The Diamond Lounge is open to Royal Diamond member only and on this Grandeur of the Seas trip 5-14 Sep2019 is managed by Concierge Ilona Tsyhaniuk. She is excellent and is the best concierge I have had on Royal. She has been the most responsive to all needs and questions. The presentation of snacks and refreshments is very well done always looking fresh and inviting. The only and big problem is that the Diamond lounge is not a room that is quiet. It is only a participation space. The wall does not reach the ceiling and the noise from the South Pacific Lounge is unbelievable loud some time making conversation impossible. Guest Services: Adelaida Contreras, Senior Guest Services Officer provided service quickly and efficiently. Her personality and smile made us comfortable as she fixed a problem on the first hour we were on the ship. Salon & Spa appointments: On 12 September 2019, Mrs Go-Okon had a spa appointment for 11:15 AM. Mrs. Go-Okon arrived at 11:10 AM early for the appointment. The Spa front desk person told her to sit down and wait even though there were no other customers. But, the desk receptionist, services two other white woman while ignoring her and not calling her back after she finished with the white customers. Was Mrs Go-Okon being ignored because she is Asian? After being ignored and waiting twenty minutes, Mrs Go-Okon went to the desk again explained she has an appointment at 11:15 AM. The new receptionist said she would get some one. She cam back in five minutes and brought Mrs Go-Okon into a treatment room. The Spa treatment started at 11:50 AM which is 35 minutes scheduled appointment of 11:15 AM. Mrs Go-Okon is stating, “I felt DISCRIMINATED upon because of the way I was TREATED!!” Special Staff Recognition: Becknar Bermudes, Royal Caribbean Dance Instructor is an excellent dance teacher. She is always smiling, friendly before and after sessions with guests. She is genial, kind, and patient in all things and a shining star representing Royal Caribbean. She is one of the hardest working staff personnel I have seen. She is everywhere, helping everyone. Sarah Jane Ete, Windjammer Attendant is outstanding in serving her guests. She is quick to server the needs of the guests as she constantly observing their needs and how she can be helpful. She has a maturity about her in the Hotel management and serving field. She has excellent communications skills and is easy to talk sharing thoughts and ideas. Dickerson Lacsamana, Assistant Maitre d’ is an outstanding leader and manager. We have observed him for nine days and it is evident the entire restaurant staff look to him for leadership and guidance. Resolving problems and guiding staff with a gentile smile is an attribute that is in high demand. Recommend Royal Caribbean consider him for promotion into leadership position with complexity. Keith Sepulveda, Receptionist and hand sanitizer at the entry of the Windjammer Café’. This lady was an outstanding smiling welcome to the Windjammer. She brought smiles to our face every day. In fact, we looked forward to seeing her. She deserves recognition. Over-All Rating Outstanding. It is the friendlest Royal ship. I recommend it Walt Okon, Springfield, Virginia Read Less

Workers are nice except for a few that seems miserable. Carnival pride is definitely a better choice. Their dining room is ok. Breakfast is the same food every morning. The crowd is mainly older and get mad when the kids are being kids.. just a warning. Our cabin is right above the door they open to let people off the ship so my kids get woken up in the morning and from their naps. Soda cans are $4.. they have ONE. pool open for public and if your kids are not potty trained they can’t go in.. so my one year old had nothing to do.. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had a discount from Royal Caribbean because the previous cruise we were on we had a flooded cabin on the Allure of the Seas. We also chose this cruise because of the size of the ship. Neither my husband nor I liked the bigger ship, Allure. We preferred the smaller ships. We also liked the time of year and the biggest reason was the ports of call. We were very interested in seeing Boston however that stop & St John, Newfoundland was cancelled. We flew into Baltimore 2 days before cruse so we could see something of the city. We received an email from RC telling us even though hurricane Dorian may come our way we still had to be onboard ship before 3pm on Thursday, September 5th the day of departure. However, we did not leave until the morning of Saturday, September 7th. We also could not leave the ship. This is where I think RC dropped the ball. I think they should have had excursions into Baltimore instead of just having 2,300 people sitting on a ship. Good for them because then the passengers spend more money at the bar. What do you do for 2 days on a ship? My next problem was who made the decision on what ports to cancel? We went to 2 in Maine & 1 in Canada. Why didn't they choose the one in Boston, 1 in Maine & 1 in Canada? We did stop in Boston late at night for an emergency stop. We were on our way to Bar Harbor, ME but had to turn around & go back to Boston to drop a passenger off due to health emergency There were no medical facilities in Bar Harbor, ME? What happened when President Bush was at Kennebuckport? Of course this put us behind again. Finally I was not impressed with the excursions but I believe that was because we were always behind. The only thing we were on time for was the return to Baltimore. Had to be on time because another cruise was leaving that evening and they had to get us off & get ready for the next cruise. The dining staff in main dining room was terrific. Our stateroom attendant was also very good and helpful. I asked for ice and wine glasses & each night I had them in my stateroom. The entertainment was okay. The activities were okay but I think they were running out of ideas. You can only play corn hole so many days. The service was terrific. I chose this particular cruise to take my son for his birthday/Christmas combined as his present. I had also booked him to do the deep sea fishing in Bermuda. We were both super excited as neither of us had been to Baltimore (so we arrived a day early to see some sights) and neither of us had been to Bermuda. We arrived on 8/30/19 and checked into a hotel, walked to the Inner Harbor for dinner and see some sights. The next morning we got to the terminal to check onto the ship and so far so smooth ... I had also purchased "the key" for us which expedited our wait with other perks as well. We were on the ship around 11 am. We had taken a tour of the spa area and had both booked services for that day. The ship was set to leave port at 4 pm, which is did. Once away from the dock I noticed that we appeared to be going in circles then we went back to the dock. We were told the propulsion system was not working properly and that it was being looked at. Fast forward to approximately 8 pm. The captain came over the PA and stated that the ship was broke and the cruise was cancelled. We had two choices leave the ship by 11 pm that evening or we would not be allowed to leave until 6 pm the following evening but all must be off by 9 pm the following evening. Our mouths dropped open .. like is this seriously happening??? Yep, it sure was. We were told there were letters in our stateroom explaining what their compensation would be, they would be reimbursing each guest up to $200 per person to change their flight plus up to $200 if you needed a hotel the evening of 8/31/19. I immediately went to our room and began calling the airlines to see about changing our flight and explaining what had just happened to our cruise. The airline we flew in on wanted $383 per person to change our flight! I went to guest services and they stated there was nothing they could do that everyone was getting the same amount and no exceptions would be granted. I went back to our room and started looking at all other flight options. Around 10:30 pm I told my son we either get off now or we're stuck until the following evening which would potentially mean we wouldn't get home until Monday as there were no evening flights to get us home the following evening. We decided to leave the ship. At that time we did not have a flight booked nor did we have a hotel for the night. I had been on the phone for approximately 45 minutes with Travelocity at this point. We walked off the ship me with my suitcase in one hand and my phone in the other. There was a park bench outside the terminal that my son and I sat on while we made arrangements for both flight and hotel. To reschedule our flight for the next day cost $349 per person (trust me I tried to find a cheaper one but it didn't exist!) and we found a hotel near the airport for just under $140. Remind you at this time I was still out the cost of the cruise, shore excursions we had booked, the drink package we had, the "key" we both had, spa services we both had done prior to the cruise being cancelled, our hotel the night before, our original filghts, etc... totaling nearly $3000! So on top of this I am now out an additional $850 (rescheduled flights, hotel, Uber) that needed paid that day! So far I have received some of the money but not all that they have agreed to reimburse me. RCs ship broke, 100% their fault 0% my fault thus I should have $0 out of pocket for this. I shouldn't have to wait 2+ weeks to be reimbursed nor do I feel I should be out any money at all on this. If I tried to find cheaper flights and couldn't I feel I should be reimbursed the entire $349 per person, not just the $200 per person. I am not very happy right now. I feel like I was abandoned and left to fend for myself with zero help from RC. While I would love to comment on the ship, cabin, dining, entertainment, ports, etc... I cannot as there was not much open during our few hours aboard the ship. Read Less

I choose this cruise for convenience as I live in Maryland and it was close to my birthday. Me and my girlfriend are both in our 30s and had a great time. Service on ship was excellent wether your talking about the MDR our room stewards etc.. We ate at chops and it was delicious we’re on the other royal ships we have been in. Izumi was also good we have eaten on other ships and then experience there was by far the best. I read a lot about this shop draws a older crowd and I could see that but it might just be when you go and your itinerary. Also read before we went that the shop shuts down at 10 or 11 o’clock which in my experience is also not true. They had live music in the centrum until at least midnight and one of the nights we went to the night club on board and people were still dancing partying etc and it was past 2am. The ship is small and for a young active couple I think 5 or maybe 7 nights max would be the perfect length on this ship as I think any longer I would have started to get board. Bermuda was awesome and beautiful and hopefully will be able to go back soon. Overall I had a great time and at the end of the day your vacation is all about what you make it. Read Less

We chose this cruise strictly for the convenience of the port. The port of Baltimore is so convenient, the parking is reasonable, the staff are helpful, and everything is run quite efficiently.. We also wanted to try a different itinerary other than the Caribbean..The New England coast was beautiful and did not disappoint us, but, I guess I was expecting a little more and eventhough I adored the staff, I do not believe it will be enough for us to come back unless there is an exceptional bargain being offered.us..for starters the Broadway shows and entertainment we always look forward to on other ships..just terrible..couldn't even watch it here. That was a bummer. Also, there was one evening I was not feeling well so I was in my room which is rarely the case .. but there is absolutely nothing to watch on TV . Only thing to watch are old reruns of some bygone show noone has ever watched and John and Katrina doing the RC commercials..its just really ridiculous and frustrating especially after all the money we've spent for that room! I like John and Katrina, don't get me wrong, but I don't want to watch them on tv all night too.! This ship sadly just does not offer enough activity for a livelier crowd.. with that being said, there are definitely some highlights though. Michael is awesome and so hilarious! He had me cracking up all week..My family loved him and he keeps everyone entertained as much as possible..The food is typical cruise food and theres plenty to choose from, so if you can't find something you like from the many options they provide, then don't go on a cruise! Also, the way I'm looking at it, I'm not cooking and cleaning for a week so I'm not complaining too much :-) it's a cruise for God sake so how bad can it be:-) my only real complaint was that it was way more money than I have paid for cruises in the past, so I guess I was expecting a little more Read Less

For the price it was a great vacation. We chose the cruise because it left from Baltimore. We have sailed out of Baltimore on the Carnival Pride four times. We enjoyed the cruise itinerary . The inside room is fine. But there was no place for our luggage. It was either put them in the small closet and leave our shoes out, or put the luggage along side the bed.. Since it was impossible to get out of bed from my side that was where the luggage went. I literally, had to crawl to the bottom of the bed. It must have been hard for our steward to make out bed. There was plenty of storage for our items. Our waiters in the dining room were Annjie and Louis were beyond excellent. They were so kind to remember our preferences after the second day. They were run ragged by a table of 10 people near us. I could hear them complaining about something every day. These 2 truly made our vacation enjoyable. It bothered me how the top people in the dining room were constantly watching our waiters. I think it was because of the complaints from the other table. Also on 2 different days Annjie was required to try to sell us an upgraded meal in the special dining rooms. This practice also occurred in the buffet area as we were eating. I am an adult. I know how to read. I do not my meals disturbed with an advertisement. It was a truly enjoyable trip. I would do it again. I was prepared for some of these annoying things because I rely on cruise critic. Read Less

So, my parents decided that they wanted to see Bermuda again, and wanted to take the rest of us - so we were a group of 10 (7 adults, 2 teens, 1 kid). My husband and I live in Baltimore, so my parents decided we should go out on the Grandeur. This was our third cruise, the first two were one the Carnival Pride (so fair warning, there will be some comparisons). The best: The solarium is an amazing place on this ship. A glass enclosed adult-only section with a little food counter and direct access to the spa with the sauna and steam room. It was amazing, and WAY better than the Pride's adult only section. We almost always were able to find lounge chairs, and the pool is a real sized pool! Actually, both pools were real sized - which was a definite step up from the Pride's pools, with way more hot tubs. We ate at Chops one night and it was delicious! (on par with the prides steak house) The staff is all very friendly and sweet and helpful. Comparing to the Pride: Embarkation and departure were a dream on the Grandeur - Easy and fast. (the Pride was a nightmare both times) The Good: The windjammer was delicious for breakfast and lunch. The great Gatsby was mostly good for dinner. The spaces on the ship (south pacific lounge, centrum, schooner bar) were beautiful. The bad: Dining: Not one dinner meal did everyone get their food at the same time - and my mom is a stickler for 'no one eats if everyone doesn't have a plate'. We received poorly done meat (seriously - who eats well done prime rib?). And breakfast in the main dining room was disgusting (cold eggs benedict two mornings in a row . . ugh). Maintenance: 2 of the 9 elevators were broken from day 1. 2 of the remaining were on/off throughout the cruise (luckily it's a small ship). Entertainment: The Schooner bar piano guy (andy?) needs to retire. No voice, not familiar with all the words to songs and very low energy. the beautiful south pacific lounge was bad karaoke multiple nights of the 5 night cruise. The ship basically closes down except the one night club room and an outdoor movie playing by 10pm each evening. Room: the beds were cots shoved together. Lumpy and hard. Verdict: I wish this ship could get a revamp - better food, better entertainment - because the ship itself is lovely and had a lot of promise. But, as is? I won't be choosing this ship over the Pride. The RC cruises typically are more expensive than Carnival, and the pros weren't enough to sway me. Read Less

Out of all the reviews I read before 99% had the GOS walking on water and to be fair to her that's a tough act to follow. The Great: Cruise Director = Great Activities Director = Great Activity Staff = Great Bartending Staff = Great Embarkation = Awesome Disembarkation = Awesome Chops Gill! = Awesome The OK: Room Steward: was just ok. Never been on a boat were at times the room wasn't touched until lunch time. The Food: MDR food to me has always been average but for some reason the food some nights seemed below average. The Bad: Replacing the Movie Screen! I know it was out of commission for at least 4-5 days and for me that's a huge deal. We enjoy watching movies at night. This should have gotten fixed at dry dock. Broken elevators: have two down the entire cruise after being at dry dock was an issue for me and some others. Food \ Beverage Package Selling: or should a say relentlessly asking to buy the package. We always buy the Dinner and Drink package beforehand and are already asked when we first get on the boat but these folks I know asked me at least a 2 dozen times the first two days and I felt that was tacky.. Last year we decided to plan a family cruise to include extended family. We chose Grandeur because most of our family lives in Maryland and we loved the idea of sailing out of Baltimore. We read lots of reviews on Grandeur and watched several YouTube videos. We have cruised several times before and we knew that this would be the smallest ship that we have experienced. Embarkation: It was a breeze getting on the ship! We arrived T the port at 9:45 AM. We checked our luggage, paid for parking, checked in, and were walking onto the ship before 10:30! We didn’t have to sit and wait so that was fabulous. Best embarkation we have ever experienced. We walked right onto the 4th floor Centrum area. All of the staff greeted us warmly. We had drinks in our hands by 10:45! The Windjammer buffet opened shortly after 11, which was great. We had access to our rooms around 1:00 PM. Room: Balconies are limited on the Grandeur and are priced at a premium, so we had an ocean view stateroom. Then ocean view windows are a nice size. We had lots of storage space and the bed was super comfortable. The room was small and so was the bathroom. The decor is dated and could definitely use a refresh. The sofa was very worn out. However, the room was clean and the bathroom was also clean. The shower had a curtain and no door, which resulted in lots of water on the bathroom floor. Be sure to keep the shower curtain inside the shower to minimize this issue. Public areas: Clean and well-maintained...two elevators did not work for the entire cruise. Definitely showing signs of rust and carpets could be replaced. Public bathrooms were always clean! Food: Specialty dining is definitely the way to go on this boat. We went to Chops twice for dinner and the food was excellent. Our server took care of us and he did an amazing job. We also paid for the Chops brunch and it was really good as well (we enjoyed dinner more). We visited Izumi once for lunch and it was so good! Starbucks was great. Giovanni’s table was okay. The food in the main dining room was truly just average...some good, some gross. Our server was nice but very slow. Since there were 13 of us in our group they split us between two tables. The other table had an excellent server. She was so personable and efficient. To illustrate the contrast...we would order at the same time. The other table would be finishing up dessert when we were finishing our appetizer. They were in and out in 45 minutes while ours took 90 minutes. We only ate there three times and skipped dessert the third night because it was just too slow. Breakfast and lunch were faster. Try the chopped salad at lunch. It’s really good! The windjammer had a nice selection. Good burgers, good brunch selection, good omelets. Indian night and Greek night were both good. The place gets pretty crowded so we tried to avoid peak times. Park Place in the solarium provided snacks in the afternoon and later at night. Burgers and hotdogs were fine. Not a fan of the pizza (think undercooked frozen pizza) or the nachos (the cheese sauce has no taste). The fruit and fruit cups are good. They also offer cookies and chips. We ordered room service for breakfast and dinner...they charge a nominal fee, but the food isn’t worth it. Activities: The cruise director, Cory, was fantastic! We really enjoyed the shows! The singers and dancers were great. We had a magician, comedian, and guest singers. Everybody was great. All of the shows took place in the Palladium. The seats are comfy but be careful with the cup holders. They don’t hold all of the glasses, which results in spills. Trivia and karaoke were lots of fun. The 4th of July celebration was fantastic. They decorated the boat so nicely. Coco Cay is amazing! Truly a game changer for Royal. We loved the pool and swim up bar. The food was great and there were plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. We would have loved to have more days there. The pools and whirlpools were great. We used them in the mornings and on port days. They were crowded on sea days so we avoided them. The arcade is really small, so my daughter was disappointed. The gym is equipped and adequate, but small, so it was usually packed in the mornings. The big screen was out of commission and was replaced during our cruise. It worked the last night. Should be great for future cruises! Beverages: The bartenders were great. We loved the Schooner Bar and Viking lounge. Customer service: Everyone was friendly and willing to help. Our room steward was great. From other reviews, Grandeur receives high marks in this area. I agree that they deserve it, but I have been impressed with the customer service on every single one of my cruises. Would I sail on Grandeur again? I enjoyed my cruise (I always do). I most likely will not sail Grandeur again. I prefer newer, larger ships, where the activities overwhelm me. I know that’s not for everyone. If you prefer an older, smaller ship with nice staff and without all of the bells and whistles, then Grandeur is for you! You will definitely have a good time. Read Less

This was a family get together cruise, so this itinerary was selected for us, but we did note that it was the most expensive I have ever paid for a cruise at $608 per night (for 2 people in the cabin including all taxes and fees and less our OBC) for a Junior Suite (which was priced only about $20 per night over a regular balcony). The itinerary was 4 nights at sea and one night at Bermuda. The ship is very small and was built in the mid-90s, so well past her prime. However, there is something quaint and nice about such a small ship that you get to know quickly and can get to places without a real effort. Nice large open walking promenade on the lower deck. But, overall, it is old and while still maintained and pretty clean, it feels old too (thin and discolored bed sheets, rust on edges of areas, ragged carpet/ window corners, etc). There were literally 2 total outlets in our Junior Suite, and they were nowhere near the bed. I suppose getting a bathtub is an "upgrade" in the JS but having to step over the shower and dodge the curtain was more of a pain than a perk. Inconsistent towel animals, ice had to be requested, and the kleenex/ tissue slot in our bathroom was never filled at all in the whole cruise (same for our other cabins, who also said their soap was often not replaced). The JS size was nice and wide with a big balcony (on which they stuck the world's tiniest 2 little chairs on.....so small you couldn't stretch out or lean back). Our Junior Suite (but not our other rooms) also had a weird and large Pillar in the middle of the room, right by the end of the bed - what I would call an obstruction. Also, we were on the 8th floor, so every night from about 10PM-midnight people and staff would rearrange the chairs and tables on the pool floor (9) and raise such a racket (ever heard of chair pads for the legs? - get a hundred for $10 at Amazon!) that all of our cabins had to wear earplugs ever night to get to sleep. The food was below average. The buffet had decent options but the area is small and there is very little outdoor dining on the whole ship. The main dining room (GREAT servers, very friendly and helpful) had a small menu every evening, half of which never changed - probably half the size of menu of every other ship we have sailed. Probably because they have advertisements and table fliers all over the ship trying to get you to buy "premium entrees" with your meal or upgrade to specialty dining. All of the appetizers and desserts arrived cold to lukewarm (seriously, how can you have a LAVA cake if it is cold?). The drink package was a pretty good value at the discounted rate of $49 per person/ day (plus gratuity) rate we got since it was good for all alcohol but also coffee (at Cafe Latte-tudes which serves Starbucks) and sodas and bottled / sparkling water. The Schooner bar and staff was great but all the others were slow and often made drinks that weren't even close to what was ordered. The gym was OK but definitely small for the number of people interested (all treadmills were always full). The pool was an OK size, but it was hard to stay out there very long because they blare the music so loud we couldn't talk to each other. The entertainment options are limited and the quality of performers was definitely the worst we have seen (I guess the talent scales with the ship size). This is definitely not a partying ship as not much is happening after about 9PM and most bars are closed by 11PM. The adult pool area has a nice and quiet Park Cafe (which curiously has no coffee) with small snacks/ sandwiches, as well as a bar that is often less busy but was staffed by one of the grumpiest bartenders I have encountered. Multiple times after asking him how he was doing, or how his day was going, his response was "What do you want" or "Are you ready" - and this was with no one else in line at the bar. Also, they broadcast next to nothing into the cabins - the bulletin said we would dock in Bermuda at 1PM and could disembark at 2PM so we waited to be called down. Finally we went outside at 2PM to see what was happening and they told us that they started letting people go at 1:30PM and you need to stand in the public areas to hear the announcements because they don't announce in staterooms (which was proved consistent upon return to Baltimore, where they also did not announce anything either). Cruising is great, and we had an overall good time on this ship, but for the premium that this ship is priced, I expect a whole LOT more. I guess they can charge this premium because people would rather drive to Baltimore than fly to Florida....but paying such extravagant premium rates for subpar amenities isn't for me. I do see the attraction of the smaller ship and should they ever start pricing this ship more in line with the experience on board, I would definitely consider it again. Read Less

My family and I decided to give RCI a try this summer. We have been on 20 Carnival cruises and 2 Princess cruises since 2001. We picked this cruise strictly on the itinerary. My teenagers were doing a DC trip with their school so we met them at the end and then came on this cruise. Coming Jon the ship we had high hopes for a great cruise. We had purchased the Key which was quite expensive for a family of 4. The only amenity we even used was the internet. RCI claims you can stream with it and you can if you sit in the Internet cafe. On your personal device in your room - nope, could hardly even play a game without your connection dropping constantly. The internet is not good at all. With the key and with a suite, you get to have reserved seating for shows. On some of the ships, this may be a benefit but on this ship - the shows were hardly attended. The broadway show was awful. I admit that I am picky about shows because I am a huge broadway fan and have attended many shows in NYC and in London but this was the worst show I’ve ever seen on a cruise ship. The All Access show was better until they got to the Madonna part and then it was a train wreck. The first comedian was great - my favorite show by far. He was good in the Welcome Aboard show and not too terribly raunchy in the adult show which was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes on Carnival, they can be just disgusting. The hypnotist show was ok and the juggler was ok. The rest, meh, Rey disappointing. The ship just doesn’t have much to do or to choose from to do. There were a couple of trivia’s per day but that was about it. The only cleaver things they had was the egg drop and the Royal Fair. Food - if you love buffet food, this is the ship for you. I however, do not. If you don’t eat on a buffet there really isn’t any other choices. They do offer lunch in the dining room on sea days but on port days - that’s it. The buffet is not appealing, food has been sitting for a long time, the hamburger buns are hard as a rock and the patties are burned to a crisp. The main dining room was good, the servers were great but there aren’t too many choices every night, just a couple. They push the specialty dining almost to the point of irritation. They even push you to pay for a specialty add on meal every night when you are about to order in the dining room. They must get a bonus or something if they can upsell you. In closing, we thought we would try a small ship to see if it was worth it to brave 6,000 people and on a ship and the family verdict is - No Way! We will stick with Carnival and enjoy the shows, the activities and the variety of food offered every single day. Read Less

This cruise was not luxurious, enjoyable, or accommodating after working hard all year to pay to have a week of relaxation and a good time. A list of things that need serious improvement: • The food - The meals on this ship were less than sub par. I was highly disappointed in the options and the execution of the food. I can cook better than these supposedly trained chefs. I can promise you, the lasagna tasted exactly like Chef Boyardee right out of a can. Every vegetable served on the plate were essentially raw. The portions were never the same, even for guests sitting at the same table. The food was always cold. I always felt like it had sat out for some time before being served. The buffet was the best option for breakfast and lunch—there was better variety and the food was actually decent. On lobster night, a couple of members in my group decided they wanted an entire lobster and were willing to spend the additional $30. The lobster came out with nothing but the carrcus and a small bit of meat on the plate. The lobster tails had more meat in them. It was a waste of $30. • Cleanliness - Oh my goodness. The cleanliness on this ship needs to be investigated. On multiple occasions, dishes were dirty: lipstick on water glasses, the previous day's meal on silverware, pulp dried in water glasses...etc. One of my family members ended up with a virus from the unclean utensils and dishes. Also, the public bathrooms were not kept clean. • Sugar free dessert options - while the desserts were decent, when eating in the dining room for dinner, there was only one option for those with dietary restrictions compared to multiple options for those without dietary restrictions. Some of the sugar free desserts at dinner were just practically inedible. • Technology - There was no app available for large groups to communicate through. We chose this cruise for the itinerary, the reputation of the Grandeur and for timing around the end of school. We cruised with a family with two pre-teens with whom we are essentially family and both families live near Baltimore. We arranged private transportation to and from the port due to the party size of six and the amount of luggage. Upon arrival, the Port of Baltimore did itself no favors as our driver was directed to one line where the luggage carts were being locked and when attempting to ask for direction to another line we were met with incredible indifference and ineptitude. Once we finally offloaded our luggage, we were then met with yet more confusion as we had booked the Royal Suite and the other members were Diamond members. Port staff had no idea where to direct people for security screening and actually dumped both parties into different, yet packed and slow moving, lines. We met at the screening and went through together. By that time we had been able to identify ourselves to Royal staff and our concierge, Carlington Berry (more on Carlington later) was waiting for us on the ship side of security. That was the last of any bad issues for embarkation. Carlington whisked us directly to check-in and then around all other lines directly to a private elevator (one woman decided to latch on and was with us all the way to and pushed into the elevator with her husband by pure hubris) and then to our suite. All of the features of the suite were discussed and our attendant, Fernando Dierra, was introduced to us. The staff of the Grandeur truly earns their reputation as the friendliest in RCI's fleet, the food was superior to other RCI ships (Majesty and Monarch) we have cruised on and the itinerary delivered. Finally, the staff in the Great Gatsby dining room was top notch, with our table's servers, Deepshika and Mary Ann, being the best we have ever had by far. Deepshika especially, as our head server, was organized efficient and catered to our party's every request. The only average part of our experience were the shows in the main theater. They were at best average, with a hypnotist and a comedian being each an hour we will never get back. We chose private tours we arranged separately and all were excellent. Specifically, Jolly Breeze Tour's jet boat whale watching tour from St. Andrews-by-the-Sea (St John port stop) was in the top 5 of all excursions we have ever done, including seaplane snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef and a helicopter into the Grand Canyon for lunch below the rim. We had been concerned about a rough ride in the zodiak for the girls but they actually wanted more wake jumping as the tour went on. The shock-absorbing seats helped a lot. Read Less
