First time in Europe. Wanted to see medieval Europe. We were not disappointed. Amsterdam and it's canals was beautiful. Never saw so many bicycles in my life. Netherlands windmills were fascinating. All the Rhine River ports in Germany were amazing. Town after town a thousand years old and spectacular cathedrals. Bamberg was probably our favorite. It was not a bombing target during WW II and is mostly original. The stretch of the Danube after leaving Vienna for Budapest is beautiful. It would have been better on a warmer day--it was too cold to spend much time on the Sun deck. The included shore excursions at every port were very interesting with excellent local guides speaking understandable English. The wireless headsets provided by Viking allowed great freedom to roam a short distance from the guide while hearing every word. And most of the guides were very knowledgeable providing a non-stop narrative about their city. The Viking Bragi is a marvelous boat. Dining is a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the option to eat more casually in the Lounge, or outdoors on the Aquavit Terrace when the temperature was warm enough. Not much to do on board compared to an ocean cruise, but the Viking emphasis is on the ports you visit, not the ship. Local entertainment was in the Lounge on several evenings. Overall experience was excellent and I would not hesitate to do another river cruise with Viking. Read Less

We cruised the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers from Budapest to Amsterdam, a great itinerary. Our second cruise with Viking, we were not disappointed. Everything was excellent....food, service, shore excursions, staff.....could not fault it. Would have no hesitation cruising with this company again.....they do do it well! Great ports, although our two days in Vienna were continuous rain, which put a dampener on things (excuse the pun). In 14 days, not one meal on the meal was repeated the menu and there was a fabulous selection of wines from all around the world. The weather at this time of year was a little cool, and wet in some ports. On one occasion, the temperature was 0-8 celcius for the day. Rug up!! We did have the threat of having to change ships due to low water, but luckily for us, we did not have to. Every other ship we spoke to had to change. Read Less

Always wanted to do a River Cruise to visit several cities in Europe. The 14 Day Viking Cruise seemed perfect and could not have had a better experience. The Cruise director was great providing a lot of local history and the rest of the crew was very helpful. the daily tours offered a great opportunity to experience the local culture in both small villages and large cities. The included tours were a great value and the special tours provided a great opportunity to see more historical sites. All the guides were first rate, especially the Nuremberg WW II tour guide. Our stateroom was comfortable with plenty of room for storage but wespent most of our time on the upper decks or on tours. We started the tour in Prague with motor coach transfer to Budapest. Airport transfers for arrival and departure were smooth with no problems. Highly recommend Viking River Cruises. Read Less

We enjoyed an amazing river cruise through Europe from Budapest to Amsterdam with days in Prague before and Amsterdam at the end. So much history and scenery to see! Cabins were a bit small but it was a river cruise. Bathrooms were very well designed to maximize space. The food and service were outstanding. Liked that the food and wine were based on local cuisine. The German theme night was very good. The included tours were wonderful with the right amount of time and information to go back and explore more on our own. Although the river water level was low in places, we did not have to change boats. Viking used buses in a few places to get us to there before the boat giving us more time in port. They did an exceptional job of maximizing an itinerary that included larger towns and smaller villages to give us an interesting view of Europe. Would definitely cruise with Viking again. Read Less

We were on tee Bragi, Carla was our program director, she was wonderful, the boat was exceptional, the crew outstanding, the food was the best, Housecleaning was in and out so fast you could feel a breeze. The glass blower they brought on board was fantastic, We added Amsterdam and Prague and both were lovely, and the Viking staff at the hotels were spot on. You can't ask for better service that you get with Viking. Like I said, I wish we could go every year, because we would, we liked it so much. Did I mention the food? Well, it was tasty. we put on ten pounds, and are still trying to get it off, but I'd go again, and again, because it was so fun. Go, you'll love it. Read Less

I took the 15-day cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, I loved everything, I would love to do it all again! I have been telling all my friends that they must have the Viking experience! I have an album of all the tours, I love looking at all the pictures and remembering of all the fun we had. It was the very most excellent of all the cruises! I would recommend to everyone! I have taken many Caribbean cruises, but would love to take one of your Viking ocean cruises, it's my dream! Read Less

Going on a River Cruise was on our bucket list and Viking appealed to us. We flew into Budapest a couple of days early and met family there and toured around on our own. Budapest is a beautiful place that I never would have thought of visiting. So glad this is where our Viking Cruise started. Our family left us and went on their way and we boarded the Bragi. Viking was so congenial and allowed us to board early. We were able to tour around the ship and get a bite to eat until our cabin was ready. The ship was so pretty and everyone was so friendly. Our cabin was small, but that is not a problem because we were not in our cabin that much. We were out on shore excursions or in the dining area or on the terrace or bar. Our cabin stewardess was so sweet and she kept everything so nice. The food was excellent and our servers were the very best. We met some awesome people on our cruise and always looked forward to meeting up with everyone for meals to visit and share our days. The shore excursions were so educational and we learned so much. All of the foods we tried were delicious. Debarkation went smoothly. We stayed one extra night in Amsterdam and were able to see the VanGogh museum and the Anne Frank House (2 things we did not want to miss while there). Loved the smaller size of the ship and fewer guests on board. Made the experience more intimate. We loved this Viking River cruise and have planned a Viking Ocean cruise in 2018. Read Less

We were invited to cruise with Fonda's cousin and his wife, Russell and Ramona Jones. So, so glad we accepted!! Wonderful time getting to see Europe from the rivers. Castles were a unique experience. Acquired new knowledge of the how's, why's, and wherefores of medieval living. Saw many churches and cathedrals with much history presented. Lovely religious relics including stained glass windows, pipe organs, and statues. The daily land tours presented plenty of experiences to "gawk" at the old-world buildings that are so picturesque. Walking on all the lovely, though uneven, cobblestone, was an adventure in itself. The food on board was of the finest locally grown available. The variety of wines was awesome! Served daily with lunch and dinner provided us with the opportunity to try both whites and reds. If wine wasn't to your taste, the bar was very well stocked to give you pretty much any kind of mixed drink you could want. The staff went above and beyond anything we had ever experienced. How wonderful to come in, ready for bed, only to find your room cleaned and restocked again AND I loved having my nightgown laying in wait for me. Ahh, what luxury!! Read Less

We love the service and attention to detail we get from Viking. They make everything so effortless. From the pick-up at the airport and embarkation on the boat to the disembarkation from the boat and return to the airport for our flight home, everything is well organized and runs smoothly. The staff on board the ship was warm and friendly and always willing to satisfy whatever need we had. The food on board was excellent. We enjoyed cooked-to-order breakfasts every morning and enjoyed the buffet lunches served on the top deck (as opposed to the dining room) for lunch. We loved the casual atmosphere up there. Dinner was also excellent with a nice selection of foods to choose from. The wait staff was very attentive and we love that when Viking says "free wine and beer with lunch and dinner" they do not skimp. When the wait staff sees that your class is almost empty they are there immediately to offer more. Love Viking!! Read Less

I did research to find the BEST trip for the price! I had been on a lot of Cruises around the Mexico and the eastern and western Caribbean. We were just burned out on ....the USUAL CRUISE. It got to the point where we didn't even leave the ship. This would be the trip of a life time and just me and my WONDERFUL WIFE! Everything VIKING promised they came about! Our travel agent took care of our demands to the TEE! The only thing we hated was the trip over and back!!! ALL NIGHT!!! YUCK! The security was a pain in the BUTT, but we knew it was worth it! When VIKING got hold of us, everything was PERFECT! The SHip was nice and new and clean and the personnel were the BEST! Our Cabin wasn't the Taj MAHAL , but was Fine! THe food was the BEST, not like on a cruise on the Caribbean , but very, very good! We even received tours of the kitchen , which has never happened before for us and it was a real treat to meet the people that did such a GREAT job preparing our meals!!!! The service was excellent. We didn't do a lot of paid shore excursions , but the ones we did were WORTH IT!!!! We prefer to see the land on our own together! AND.......we never felt unsafe! ANd one day ...we will do it again and we will travel with VIKING! Viking is the BEST! Read Less

We had never been on a river cruise. It was wonderful. Great fellow passengers, excellent staff. Food was amazing. The staff goes the extra mile to cater to your every request. The excursions were pleasant and informative. We made friendships that are still in place today. The pacing was comfortable and allowed us to relax and enjoy a part of the world we had never seen before. The itinerary allowed us to see many aspects of Europe so we got a good sampling of the region and its cultures. I would recommend Viking (and we have many times since getting back) to anyone. Our stateroom was comfortable and always clean and orderly. The entertainment provided was wonderful. I liked that the guests were in our age bracket so we had a common ground of life experiences to start conversations and get to know each other. We have since expanded our Viking experiences and been on the Viking Star for a ocean cruise. We will be going through the Panama canal this fall again on a Viking Ocean ship. Read Less

I have to recognize that when I bought the Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise, I had a lot of reservations, especially about the size of the ship, as my wife and I have taken several ocean cruises in mega ships. After one day on the Viking Bragi, all my reservations were gone. The size was overcompensated with the personal treatment of all the crew; the excursions were well planned and very interesting. The food was excellent and with many options and variety. The activities on board were entertaining, the live music was soothing and above all, the smooth sailing was a plus. All personnel, specially the concierge was helpful at all times and went out of the way to address our needs. The Cruise Director, Jutta Hinterer made the trip perfect, advising all that requested help with knowledge and grace. We highly recommend Viking River Cruise to all that want to enjoy the sights and have a restful vacation. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the length,15 days and the number of places we would get to visit, 4 countries. I would love to do it again. There was so much to enjoy that I'm sure we missed something! Good thing the majority of shore excursions required walking because the food was plentiful and delicious. The included and optional shore excursions were the history, art & architecture types that we love. All of our guides were very fluent in English and knew their topics well. We found the nightly newsletters of the next days events with suggestions for alternate activities invaluable. The booklet of the trips itinerary etc. sent ahead of the cruise was also invaluable. Wonderful crew that made the transition to another ship for the passengers, required due to high water, as smooth as silk. Viking arranged our air travel and transfers which saved me a lot of heartburn. I do wish the flight home had been more direct. Read Less

From Ads on TV we caught the "bug". Then since my father served in WWii and was in Budapest, I had two bridge pictures to find. The concerge at Hilton Castle Wall was very helpful and we were pleased to find our ship docked between the two bridges. We chose to spend a few extra days in Budapest, and could have spent the entire time exploring the Castle Wall, especially how Hilton incorporated into wall. Our view from room was directly across Danube from Parliament and there is no bad time to look out at that. The Viking crew at hotel was wonderful and our embarkation was smooth as silk. The Bragi had a wonderful crew and our stateroom was great (this is good because we were comparing against the Hilton). In a nut shell - our program director was fantastic. The dining was exquisite and entertainment was FUN! I would make ONE suggestion. Let clients know in advance that you offer fantastic shore excursions that can be booked through you. We did some outside tours and they did not compare at all to Viking tours. The quiet boxes were so nice and very easy to use. Our trip included a ship transfer due to high water and the only inconvenience was packing our bags. We got off Bragi for shore tour, had lunch on the town - how Viking manages to find places on short notice to feed that many people so pleasantly is a mystery. After our tour we bused back to Skadi and felt like something was askew...the lobby, halls, our room --- we were on the same ship! Instead of a disaster, we actually got to see a little more of the area than on shipboard and got to visit a place we would not have seen. We did not have children and there were none on our cruise - don't consider teenager as child. She actually smiled and interacted with others and seemed to enjoy. We are looking forward to going again, and it will be another Viking River Cruise. Wish Viking would find a way to do North American (USA, Canada, Alaska) cruises. My suggestion to all - get trip insurance. As result of health issue we had to cancel and even that was a pleasant experience. One year later and WOW. Most on our ship were in the 50 to 70 range, with one 94 year old...who walked barefoot on cobblestone street... Read Less

This was our second river cruise. We had been to France, Germany, and Austria. Since my Dad was in Nerthlands during World War II, we thought we should visit the Country now. We had a frantastic time. We could not express in words what it is like to walk through Amsterdam. We did arrive on a Long Weekend for the Nerthlands, however, the number of people passing through the City was unbelievable. Dealing with the bicycle paths was the interesting. The Viking buses collected us at the Airport and delivered us to the ship. The ship was not docked downtown. Viking operated shuttle buses to the centre of town; it was great. The information provided on board was timely and informative. First night we had a meet and greet with Ship's Staff. The food was great. Service and attention to the needs were perfect. The staff could not have been nicer. They were helpful when we ordered our cruise, we called several times with questions which were answered to our satisfaction, meals and waiters were excellent. There was lots of variety to choose from. The waiters were very attentive and fun loving. We enjoyed all of the excursions. They were all efficiently handled. Guides were very informative. We learned many things about Holland that we did not know before. We really enjoyed the coffee and pie with the family in Hoorn, Netherlands. Some complained about walking but we thought all of the walks were enjoyable walks for a couple in their late 70s. The highlight for us was touring the Keukenhof Tulip gardens. In spite of the rain the gardens were spectacular. We even did several scenic walks on our own which we enjoyed. The only negative was there were so many great excursions offered at the same time to choose from, so we had to make some hard choices which meant we missed some excursions we would like to have gone on. We would recommend Viking for a river cruise. We also appreciated the help at the airport upon arrival to Amsterdam. On departure the Viking representative was so helpful to us getting our boarding passes and to our gate. Read Less

The food was great) local specialties and traditional items, the staff attentive and the excursions were completely organized. The waiter knew my name and preferences on the second day! The cabin was clean, fairly spacious (definitely get one with a balcony), and the maid took care of our every need. The excursions were very well organized and the pace was just right. This is the only way to travel. No changing of hotels and repacking regularly. Delicious food taken care of by a great kitchen staff 3 times a day. Breakfast and lunch could be fast buffet style or leisurely sit down. We were handed water for all excursions and in the room at no extra charge. Beer, wine and soft drinks were offered free with lunch and dinner. We were waited on hand and foot throughout the cruise by a great staff. Travel was to sites while sleeping instead of long bus rides. You could tour at your own pace around the offered sites or on your own or just stay aboard. One of the nice surprises was that staff members accompanied the scheduled tours and took many pictures of the sites and the folks exploring These pictures could be purchased at the end of the trip on a flash drive. One didn't need to take any pictures if he so chose and would still have many to remember the trip. We look forward to the next time we travel with Viking. It had been more than 25 years since I had traveled in The Netherlands and Belgium and I was anxious to return. Also my husband had never seen the tulips. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. The cumulative impact of the tours was to give us a good understanding of the history, culture, and food of the area. The story of their magnificent water management system unfolded through several tours and the visit to the tulip farm was a very informative and enjoyable experience. The trip to Bruges was a trip down memory lane for me and I found the restaurant I had been to several times in the 1970's, still serving fabulous mussels. Hoorn was a delightful surprise and I hope to go back there some day. We took the 2-day extension in The Hague and, using the trolley, were able to see the Peace Palace, Delft, and downtown The Hague. We were glad we spent the time in The Hague. This was our third Viking river cruise, and certainly not our last. The Bragi simply reinforced our love of river cruising. The entire ship's company were outstanding, and the best ambassadors the Viking company could ever ask for. From the moment we were met at the airport, to the time we were quickly checked in and escorted to our cabin was a welcomed relief. Like most of our cruise mates, we travelled a great distance just to get to Amsterdam, and we were completely exhausted after a long flight from Los Angeles USA. So, to be treated so kindly, and taken to our Explorer Suite, where we were overwhelmed by the luxury and magnificent view from our cabin was much more than we expected. Viking dinning is always a fantastic experience, if you are willing to enjoy foods you would never eat on a normal basis. The Bragi was no exception to the Viking concept of gourmet dinning. What an experience, everyday was a different dinning adventure for us, and we truly enjoyed the chef's recommendations, combined with our waiter's knowledgeable and delicious wine pairing. We recommend purchasing the the Viking drink package, so you can really enjoy your total dinning experience. The entertainment was fabulous, and personal. The Bragi has a relaxing intimate nightclub atmosphere, that is simply a great time to catch your breath from a full day of shore excursions, and enjoy the company of other quests and crew members. We tried to do as many shore excursions as we could in every port, and we enjoyed each and every one of them. Now, I can only speak of our own personal Viking experience, and we have not been disappointed with any of our three cruises. All are completely different; China, Russia, and the Netherlands, but still wonderfully unique memories for us. River cruising is not for everyone, but if you just go with the flow, it can be a very different and rewarding adventure. If you are the type of person who needs more time on shore excursions, my suggestion is to add land time to your travels either before or after your cruise, so that you can experience things at your own pace. You've already paid for your airfare, and you have the power to arrive and depart on your own personal timetable. Of course this really depends on the amount of time you have available for your vacation. The best part of this cruise was the entire ship's company, and we can hardly wait to someday set sail once more with the Bragi across Europe. Good traveling to all. Read Less

Our trip on the Grand European tour from Budapest to Amsterdam was our first river cruise and set the standard for all future river cruises. We will do another with Viking because they could not have done a better job of communicating, assisting, arranging, preparing, and executing. Friendly, accommodating customer service was a hallmark of this cruise. If you needed money changed, they helped. If you missed a connection (which we didn't), they helped. On rainy days, golf-size umbrellas were available at the entrance, or if you forgot yours or had a small, size pocket one, you could avail yourself of the large size. At meals, the wait staff got to know our needs because we sat together every night in a particular place and had the same server. She knew who wanted decaf at the end of the meal and who was going to order ice cream with whatever dessert was on tap that night. Wine was poured in abundance throughout the meal, and they remained attentive to us throughout. If we wanted another drink from the bar, she would get it with a smile. It's those little customer service efforts that made this cruise so enjoyable. One issue - no workout room on the ship. Shore excursions were handled very professionally, and we learned so much from the local guides. We wanted to be in the same excursions as our new-found friends, and once we asked the desk to do that, it was arranged for all the other day trips we took. Even the nay-sayers (who complain about everything) were answered with a smile and a friendly tone. You really can't complain about water levels but some did anyway. We had to change ships mid-way and the transition from one ship to the other came off without a hitch. From the greeting at the Budapest airport to the adieu at the Amsterdam airport, it could not have been a better cruise (except for the weather and Viking didn't have control over that). Cannot wait for our next one! Read Less
