Our daughter had taken a shorter Viking cruise six month earlier and came back with rave reviews, so we decided to try one ourselves. We were not disappointed. We had both traveled extensively in Europe, but the luxury of only having to unpack once was one of the many benefits of traveling with Viking. Our only "complaint" was with the people at the hotel who were handling the before-cruise offering. We just happened to be staying at the same hotel and inquired about the possibility of "hitching a ride" to the ship with the others. No deal. It seems that the only "transfers" with Viking would be if they picked us up at the airport ... not from an in town hotel, even if it was the same hotel from which they would be transporting the other guests. On board, the meals were great and the drink offerings were good. However, for as much time as we spent on the Rhine and the Main rivers with all their wonderful Reisling vineyards, we were expecting more local wines to be offered with our meals; instead, most of the included wine offerings came from Austria's Wachau Valley. The lectures, on board entertainment and glass blowing demonstration were most enjoyable and the scenery will be enjoyed agin with all the wonderful photos we were able to take. Recommendations for debarkation include finding out at what times the Viking sponsored departures or add-on tours are planning to leave the ship and planning your departure around them. We made the mistake of planning our departure at the same time and our luggage was the LAST to make it off the boat even though we had a driver waiting just for us. Overall, the experience was great ... but the little issues were just irritating and avoidable had we known better. Read Less

Wanted to see the Netherlands and see what surprises were their that Viking was going to take on during our trip. Accommodations were excellent, the food was delicious and the wines and beers were tasty. We met a few friends from the USA and we had a great time sitting around talking and enjoying our drinks without being rushed. All ports and transportation to inland spots was first class and safe. Had a great time seeing Beautiful Flowers and people of the Netherlands. The historic area of Arnhem was very interesting and the bridges and stories related to us by guides a these places were Historical. Kinderdijk was fantastic to visit and walk around with many kinds of beautiful flowers blooming in Peak season. Ghent as very nice to visit and sample some of the foods and beers of the area, City of Amsterdam was great with all of the history from Anne Frank to Red light district and the water control of the canals and dams in the area. We chose this trip because I'd always wanted to see the tulips in bloom in Holland. Viking was specifically chosen because of their Explorer Suites. At the back of the ship with full length windows in back and on side, a separate bedroom area, outside deck and lovely amenities, they're the perfect place to relax and watch scenery. Some unexpected perks with the suite were a beautiful flower arrangement, silver drink package, laundry service, immediate room availability at time of embarkation and butler service. All staff were exceptionally accommodating and friendly, food was delicious and most excursions and lectures top notch. We enjoyed the itinerary and have already booked for a Danube Cruise next year. I've done a lot of ocean cruising, but had only been on a river trip on the Nile. I like 5 star accommodations and Viking didn't disappoint. I booked first class air, requested non-stop and arrangements were flawless. Perfect! Read Less

My wife and I chose this cruise in order to see the tulips in the Netherlands and to see Bruge, Belgium. We were pleasantly surprised that the cruise included many additional high spots, and we learned much more than we had anticipated. The tulip gardens were overwhelming, but we also greatly enjoyed the home visit in Hoorn and the explanation of the massive system constructed to protect the Netherlands from future flooding. We expect great food and service on Viking cruises, and this crew did not disappoint. The dining room staff were all friendly and efficient. I had worried about the crew being trained enough for this early-in-the-season cruise, but I could tell from the first day that there was nothing to worry about. I complimented the dining room manager, as this staff was as good as any of the other Viking ships we've been on. All of the departments on this ship performed very well, and we have already signed up for Viking cruise #8. Read Less

This was our second Viking river cruise and it was a great trip. The ship was spotless, and the crew amazingly friendly and helpful. Viking truly does a great job of selecting, and training all cell members. Outrage stateroom was kept impeccable, and was very comfortable. Had a Veranda A! Plenty of room, lots of closet/drawer/shelf space for our clothes. And we don't pack lightly. Plenty of outlets, and counter space in the stateroom. The heated bath floors extend into the shower, and the Freyja bath products were very nice. A light scent that is good for men and women. I love that Viking provides a mini fridge in the room. I like my soda in the morning and could take one back to the room each night. The lounge was always comfortable, and meals were delicious. The trips was great. The towns of Hoorn and Brugges were my personal favorites. In Arnhem we did the optional tour to the outdoor museum, which was great. Not many people went on this tour, but to me it was a must do. Kinderdijk was really neat, the windmills were so neat!! Keukenhof was much more interesting than I thought, and the flowers were amazing. I would highly re ommend this ship and itinerary. Read Less

Our first river cruise on the Viking Baldur as we like Europe and the idea of seeing many beautiful places/countries appealed to us. We also like that it's less crowded on the riverboats and you only unpack once. The ship was wonderful and even though the cabin is small there is very good use of the space. The food was incredible (lots of variety) and our servers; crew and cleaning staff were top notch; very friendly and helpful. Room was always spotless on our return. Lots of onboard entertainment and the shore excursions were fun; informative and a great way to get a feel for the places. We had an extension in Amsterdam but even then we could have used more time. Very unique city. The Ann Frank house was a must see for us. Incidently the church beside this house is where Rembrandt is buried. We could have used another day in Budapest as well. I did find it tiresome visiting a church in every port but that's Europe. Our only negative comments deal with the extension we took to Prague. We were bused there (9 hours) and really felt that we should have been given the option to fly or take a train to Prague. It would have saved us a day and the trip was long/boring and the two stops we made were at extremely busy eateries where we barely had time to do anything. Very enjoyable trip overall that we took to celebrate our 40th anniversary and not sorry we went but likely won't go again. We found it rather expensive and we like to schedule our own specific activities. If you do decide to go would highly recommend Viking. Read Less

I figured I may only get this one chance to see Europe so I chose the Grand European river cruise! I totally enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on board ship. The scenery along the rivers was most beautiful. The excursions kept us moving every day--enjoying the many cities and towns along the way! The meals on board were extraordinary! Often including local fare. The staff was magnificent. They were warm and friendly and ever so helpful. THe first few days were a little overwhelming. THe excursions were wonderful, but I felt like I had no chance to really relax and enjoy the city or town we were in--you know, like sit in a cafe and enjoy a cafe latte and people watch. After a few days things settled down and got better. I loved the guides, they were knowledgable and informative. Totally love not having to pack up and move luggage every few days. Though we had been on a previous cruise from Prague to Nuremberg and South to Budapest, we chose to see Budapest again, (didn't have a chance the last time) and to go North up through Vienna again, other quaint German towns and to depart from Amsterdam. Weather and overall trip was exceptional!! Only 2 out of 15 days with some rain and overcast plus when we left for home from Amsterdam. Unable to explore Amsterdam since we went from our ship directly to the airport. Should have extended a couple of days and definitely should have booked the extension for Budapest. Thought we would get at least a windshield tour of Amsterdam but it was raining and the flight was relatively early so things worked out well. Maybe another time. Food, wine and treatment on board was as always exceptional!! Steward for our stateroom was very helpful and efficient as were all of the waiters and waitresses and the Program Director and her Assistant! We recommend Viking to anyone who wants to listen, in all seriousness, when we talk about travel. First time we stayed in Stateroom E. Prefer the French Balcony. Met a very nice couple from Richmond, VA and we do want to catch up with them again. Did travel the last two times with friends we encouraged to join us so we went as 2 couples each time. Also referred a couple and they took the new Ocean Liner. Word of mouth does work. Pick up at the Budapest Airport was a little awkward since we had to wait for another flight to come in with other Viking passengers on board. After waiting an hour or more they didn't show so we ended up going to the Baldur with out them. Regardless, the trip was great and yes, we would go again. We enjoyed Southern France already. Maybe Portugal and Spain next time or the Ocean Liner. Thank you Viking and a special thank you to your Baldur team. Read Less

The trip started in Amsterdam and embarkation was smooth as silk. Friendly staff from the very beginning and during the entire trip. Our cabin was very comfortable and offered us a great look at everything if we wanted on our trip. The dining on board was exceptional with a different offering for dinner at every region we visited. Marik Snelly, our Program director, is a jewel, offering great insights during our journey. Vannessa, our Concierge, was very helpful to our needs throughout the trip. Excursions at each stop were fabulous. Exceeded our expectations in every way. A great way to visit Europe without a doubt. Kudos to Viking!! we loved the fact that everything was done for us....loved the meals on the ship, the tours were great and meeting only a few people not like on the ocean cruise was fantastic. lots of down time if you wanted it but lots of exciting things to see and do if you wanted to and created for everyone ......we had ages 7 years to 83 years i believe and all in-between and that was awesome! our Cabin was small but very accommodating, the scenery was lovely and we had very few complaints. Our only one down side was the four airports we went thru going over and also coming back (from Edmonton, to Montreal, to Paris and then Amsterdam and coming home again from Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam and Edmonton .........and our suitcases were held up in Montreal due to weather but was delivered two days later so we did miss part of our Sightseeing Tour of Amsterdam that day due to filling out forms and trying to track down our suitcases and as i only had one pair of shoes i had a very hard time as my feet are not the best these days so slowed us up the first day or so. Everyone was very good about finding out where our case had got to though! We would love to do another river cruise but probably won't as it was pricey for us but glad we did it! Read Less

My husband and I have only been on one cruise and one river boat (not Viking) and decided river boating was the BEST.....don't have the crowds (only 160 on our boat) and can see scenery on both sides of the ship. (Not so much water). Read reviews on Viking and decided to try. The crew on Viking Baldur (Grand European - Amsterdam to Budapest) was amazing. We had never been on a trip (and we've been all over Europe) that the crew was SO attentive to detail. It was so interesting that many crew members 'wore several hats' and they helped each other. GREAT TEAM WORK, from meeting us at the airport to shuttling us back!!!!! Our room was cleaned and straightened up several times a day. On each venture out, bottles of water were given out, umbrellas were available...if it rained (only had one slightly rainy day for a couple hours), and the crew always welcomed us back with a cool drink. There were several optional tours after the walking tour each morning, and if we chose not to do any of them, the crew gave us a map of the city with cool things to go back and see. Instructions for subways explained and routes carefully penned so there was no frustration. Great comradery with the waiters and waitresses. They got to know us pretty well and could anticipate 'our usuals'. The dining was elegant and the food was GREAT, with attention to a special meal specific to the country we were motering thru. There was always a 'standard' American menu if you chose not to be adventurous and try the local dishes. The chef always gave a little talk about the evening menu right after an explanation of the next days' adventure by our connoisseur, who had a tremendous sense of humor. Every night they had entertainment of some sort and it was always a class act! I personally have never been crazy about opera, but the trio they had come on board that night, was hysterical. Even though you didn't understand the language, you got the message by their actions. I have never been so pampered...EVER.....and we're definitely going back next year, somewhere else with Viking. Can't praise them enough!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

Chose this cruise because it went through parts of central western Europe we had not visited. Viking has one of the highest ratings and concentrates on giving the passengers wonderful information on each port before arriving. The ship was beautiful and kept exceptionally clean and immaculate. We particularly enjoyed our departure city of Budapest and all the tours offered by Viking, as well as the beautiful 5 star Hilton hotel. After each port we felt we had a real understanding of the people and history of the area. Dining was perfect with good dishes representing each area. Or if one did not like a dish he/she could always fall back on salmon- how wonderful is that?! Most of the passengers were very friendly and interested in seeing the various ports of call, and one night we ask!ed one another how did you hear about Viking? Of course it was from the History Channel on TV! (For most first time passengers) The cabins are beautifully appointed and all anyone could ask for- - - one exception which I am sure has been corrected by now was the bed pillows- they were almost flat and seemed to be needing replacement! We are pleased to be taking one of the Norway cruises on your newer cruise ships this coming summer! Read Less

First River Cruise after having done 60 ocean cruises. Did not know what to expect. First let me say that Viking was awesome! Great ship and crew. The food was top notch. The ports were excellent. Our cabin was small but very nice and very efficient and exceeded our expectations. Local food and wines served at dinner and a free excursion every morning was included. These cruises do cost a little more than an ocean cruise but you do get several extras included. 140 guests, mostly Americans and we probably knew 100 by the time of departure. Had to change ships at the halfway point because of high water levels on the river but, it was no issue. The other ship we changed to was exactly the same even our cabin was the same room number and location. Viking is tops! I highly recommend them. I thought they were well prepared for anything. Every evening there was something different to watch, from local talent to other types of entertainment. One night there was a glass blowing demonstration. Since the water level was high we had to change ships but Viking made the whole transition go smoothly. We extended our stay in Amsterdam at the end of the cruise. We were interested in the scheduled ports of call and the daily tours included in the package. We had other friends who had taken a Viking Cruise and they all raved about the value of their trip. If we had it to do over again, we would definitely go to the embarkation city several days in advance. Primarily for two reasons, recover from jet lag prior to boarding the ship and having more time to spend exploring such a fascinating city (Budapest). ALL of the ship's staff and crew members were extremely pleasant & helpful, chatting with the passengers and making you feel like you were a special friend & guest. My husband being diabetic was always offered a special low sugar dessert - quite a treat when he usually has to respond "no thanks" to dessert. Menu selections were superb and we always had the option of having a lighter evening meal. Our room was comfortable, comparable to a luxury hotel! We especially enjoyed having a veranda where we could leisurely watch the beautiful scenery glide by. Other amenities such as thermostatically controlled temperatures for each individual stateroom, a private refrigerator and safe, plus sufficient electrical outlets and on board wifi all contributed to our comfort. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday on this cruise. We extended our trip with the pre cruise in Budapest which was a wonderful experience. We also extended with the post cruise in Amsterdam and Belgium. The whole trip was very enjoyable. Viking had every detail covered including a ship swap because of very high waters on the rivers. The swap was effortless on the part of the passengers but I know how hard the crew on both ships worked to make it that way. The best part was the Cruise Director, Marek Snelley changed ships with us !! Marek was a huge reason that our cruise was so delightful. He is personable, funny and extremely capable of taking care of the unexpected. This was our second Viking River cruise and I am sure we will be booking another cruise soon. These cruises are geared towards the older crowd. Our ship's median age was about 60. With no young people onboard our 24 year old daughter would not have enjoyed this as much as we did. A River cruise is much calmer and more intimate than ocean cruises. The emphasis is on learning about the cities visited. The tour leaders are all very knowledgeable and personable. Read Less

We started in Budapest on the Baldur, but did not do an early arrival. We had 2 days to explore that wonderful city. The embarkation was smooth an easy, with staff meeting us at the airport and moving our luggage to our rooms. The ship was comfortable and the room small but adequate. The veranda rooms were quite a bit larger and would have been nice, but were sold out by the time we booked our cruise. The food was excellent and the portions were just right so that weight gain was not a problem. We had dessert for every meal but in a nice small portion. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. They quickly knew us and what we liked. Most of the entertainment was off the ship but the program director, Marek, was fantastic and the evening programs that he did were most informative Several nights we had outside musical groups that were excellent. The tours each day were well planned and gave a great overview of the cities. Each day there was an included tour to provide overview and then there were some extras that were excellent. We enjoyed the Vienna concert, the Cologne Pub crawl, and the Moselle Wine tour. This boat was mostly older adults and thus quite quiet. The river was smooth so there was no rocking of the boat. We would definitely do this kind of tour again!! Read Less

My husband chose this cruise as a gift to me. I was pleasantly surprised with the accommodations on the boat. He had booked a stateroom with a separate sitting room. I was able to sleep in, while he could get up and not disturb me by closing the door between rooms. The included tours were very good. The guides were informative and pleasant. We did purchase two additional tours during the cruise. My husband went on the Nuremberg War Trials Tour, which he said was well worth the money. We both went on the Dutch Cheese Making Tour. That tour was great especially when we were able to taste any cheese they had in stock. The prices we paid for cheese we bought was quite a bit cheaper than the "tourist" stores in downtown Amsterdam. Entertainment was very good from the lounge piano player to the entertainers that came in and visited for the night. I especially enjoyed the glass blower that came to the boat. The crew was exemplary (on both ships). Our cruise was supposed to be 2 weeks on the same boat. Due to high water in the rivers, the ships did not have enough clearance to go under certain bridges. So halfway through the cruise, we had to change ships and ended up on the Viking Magni. We changed boats with the same cruise we were on, but we coming from Amsterdam to Budapest. Viking handled the change seamlessly, and made the change as pleasant as possible. We were able to ut our luggage outside our room, and the next time we saw it was when it was in our new room..Since we were changing boats, Viking had our program director Marek and concierge Vanessa make the change with us. This really helped the passengers since we already had a good relationship with the two of them. The new crew was excellent, and were welcoming and friendly making the change over much easier. I was not really interested in eating in the dining room, so I was pleased the boat had the Aquavit Buffet. It gave you a quite pleasant place to enjoy a meal. You could not order what was being served in the restaurant, but you could eat what special they were serving that night or have an option from a small menu served in the buffet. It wasn't until later in the cruise when more people began to come to the buffet for dinner. I would guess at the most we had 15 people eating in the buffet with us. The staff assigned to serve us in the buffet were exemplary in their service. They were very friendly accommodating and provided us with great service! I also enjoyed the self service coffee bar and pastry that was provided. It was really nice to be able to get a cup of hot chocolate on your own. The staff kept the area clean and tidy, and well stocked. My husband and I are talking about taking a Western Mediterranean ocean cruise with Viking, then another river cruise, possibly the Tulip Cruise. Read Less

Dowtown Abbey advertisements attracted us to investigate Viking Cruises. This trip was a celebration for my wife and I for her retirement from the local bank she worked at for 45 years. The staff met and beat all our expectations. In addition to being helpful and friendly they would anticipate things that we would need. Great job. And the scrabbled eggs each morning were over the top great. This anticipation also applied to the company. With the high waters on the Danube the Baldour was unable to complete the trip to Amsterdam. Because Viking had the equipment and people we did a ship swap around Nurmburg which was seamless. We arrived at all our destinations on time and without incident. We had never been on any kind of cruise before. We always knew that we wouldn't want to cruise with 3000+ of our friends. The river cruise was, for us the way to go. The ratio of crew to guest was low enough that we always felt that we were the most important people on board. Fabulous from the beginning to the end. We were so happy to have extended the river cruise in the beginning at Budapest and again in Amsterdam and Ghent. There is so much to tell and space does not permit. From the Central Market in Pest to the Belgian Waffle at Lizzie's in Bruges (Don't miss this place) it was delightful. Service aboard the vessel was so personal and professional it felt as if we had our own wait staff. Excursions from the boat into the towns and villages were extremely well done. The local tour guides were knowledgeable and able to answer every question asked. Some highlights included the early evening concert in Vienna. The orchestra played Mozart and Strauss music, non-stop, for two hours. The four singers would have been comfortable in any opera house in the world. The there was the opportunity to taste the many local beers in almost every town accompanied with locally made sausages. Our visit to the courthouse in Nuremburg was eye opening even though we already knew about its importance after WWII. Our lecture filed in so much that we didn't even think about - - WOW! I can't forget to mention the late afternoon and evening lectures about the coming day that made us really look forward to what was coming. All that with wonderful food and drink. Relaxing meals and excellent wine (take the drink package - - it's a value). And we met some wonderful people, some of which we are already meeting again now that we are back home. I could go on, but you get the idea. We were spoiled and will have difficulty going on the big ships again. Read Less

I selected the Viking Grand European River Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. I was attracted to this cruise because everything was included in the price and the route takes you through most of the big name cities and attractions of Europe. After experiencing the cruise I could not be more pleased. The service that the crew and staff of the Viking Baldur provided was outstanding. The level of service we received on the cruise is totally unheard of in the US. The crew and staff went out of their way to make the voyage the most enjoyable trip of our lives (thus far!). For example, we arranged our own air travel since we wanted to spend time in Warsaw before flying on to Budapest to start the cruise. When we arrived in Budapest, I asked the Viking reception team at the airport if we could pay for a ride the transfer bus to the boat since we had not arranged for the transfer in advance because of our uncertain arrival time. The assistant for Viking said that we could take the Viking transfer bus, but that it would be less expensive for us to just take at taxi at that point. I do not speak Hungarian, and the Viking representative took us to a taxi and provided detailed instructions to the driver on where the boat was parked, which she would not have had to do since we did not use the airport transfer service. This is just one of many examples we experienced over the next 15 days on the cruise of the way the Viking representatives go out of their way to make your voyage the most enjoyable experience possible. Regarding the cruise categorization; I would call it a Luxury Cruise. It was not specifically a seniors cruise, although there were no children on the boat (much to my relief). Most people were north American, although there may have been a few Aussies there also, and virtually everyone spoke English, as did all the crew and staff. The food and wine were gourmet quality and there were choices of several different items at each meal. If you didn't like to eat in the more formal "sit down" fashion at the main dinning room, you could eat more casually on the terrace. There were no formal seating assignments in either dinning area and you could sit wherever you wanted and with whomever you wished. Dress on board was casual; no fancy clothes required. Read Less

When I retired from teaching after 40 years of service, I wanted to celebrate my new life with a European river cruise. We chose the Grand European Tour for 2 reasons. The first reason was that it was highly recommended by friends and family and the second reason was that a close friend had already booked on this particular cruise. As my husband is an amputee, it seemed like a good idea to travel with someone we knew, just in case there were difficulties. However, we needn't have worried about that, as from the moment we arrived in Budapest until the time we departed the cruise in Amsterdam, we received amazing support and guidance from the whole Viking crew. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly because all the crew was involved. The food and wine were delicious and plentiful, prepared and served by attentive and friendly crew members. The focus on food and wine specialties of the regions we were visiting increased our enjoyment and added to our cultural knowledge and understanding of those areas; but there was also a wide variety of alternatives to satisfy everyone's food tastes and requirements. I can't live without fruit and salad and they were available with every meal! The ship's facilities, such as the walking track (which I personally loved - fresh air, exercise and beautiful scenery), the sun lounge and the indoor bar and lounge, provided ample opportunity for travelers to relax alone or to meet up with others in a comfortable central location. The entertainment presentations and daily briefing by the Tour Director in these areas were fun and informative and the advice regarding tours suitable for my husband was always appropriate. We chose a cabin with a veranda because we thought that if my husband was unable to join in some of the excursions, he could still be outside enjoying the passing sights. We loved the small, compact bathroom (my husband went so far as to declare it was the best bathroom he had ever used), because the heated floor dried out any water quickly, the folding shower chair provided by Viking fitted perfectly into the shower recess, and the solid bench tops gave him stability when moving around. The most important experience I would like to share though, is not about the wonderful tours and highly competent tour guides we had, nor the ready access to a wheel chair for any tours requiring a lot of walking, but about the professionalism and care we received when my husband had the misfortune to have problems with his back during the cruise. Simply bending over to tie his shoes one morning, resulted in him twisting his pelvis, which brought on painful muscle spasms. One of the waiters helped me to bring food and fluids to the cabin for my husband as any movement caused him extreme pain. He made it clear he was happy to do anything to help me. The hotel manager and concierge organised a doctor's appointment for that afternoon, and a taxi to take us to the doctor. The doctor recommended and gave a cortisone injection and anti-inflammatory tablets as the best course of action, given we were leaving the town that afternoon and would not be in a big city for the next two days. My husband immediately felt some relief from the injection, and the pain and stiffness eased over the next few days. We could not have anticipated this problem, but the Viking crew treated us with the care and concern as if we were members of their own family. They continued to watch over us and check that we were doing OK. We will be forever grateful for their gentle and considerate support. This cruise was a once-in-a life-time occasion for us, but we would go again in a heart beat if we were able. Read Less

The staff are great. The program director knew her job and did it well, she was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and many of the buildings and was entertaining. We looked forward to her talks every evening before dinner. She was also funny. The concierge was also very knowledgeable and extremely helpful to me. She actually made the trip a lot easier for me (I am handicapped). She was very friendly and also went above the call of duty to make my trip a great success. The dining staff and the bar tender were very good. They remembered my name and what I like to eat or drink and would automatically bring it when I walked into the room. They were very friendly. The food was great and very plentiful. At one port I did not disembark and actually got to watch the crew do their daily jobs. They work very hard and do an excellent job. Some were on the hands & knees cleaning the atrium floor among other things that had me very impressed. The ship was always very clean. The entertainment was interesting and while some of it was educational it was at the same time very funny. The pianist that played during the afternoon and evening was very good, as was his singing voice. I had absolutely NO complaints and would recommend this trip to anyone who loves to travel to see different things and places and anyone who wants to just relax and meet interesting people from around the world. The trip and the cruise line was great. From the time the plane landed in Amsterdam until the plane left Amsterdam to go home, it was a smooth and wonderful trip. Thank you Viking and all the Baldur Staff. It was great. I think everyone should travel Viking at least once in their lifetime. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was our first trip to Europe and we wanted to see as much as possible. We can't say enough good things about the trip. It was a great vacation. We had a fantastic crew and an outstanding program director that handled a few unexpected situations with extreme professionalism. They definitely made the trip extremely enjoyable. The ship, the service, the food, the ship accommodations, on shore excursions, the evening entertainment and the daytime enrichment activities were all top notch. Having only 190 people on the ship was great because you had the opportunity to meet almost everyone. Many people on the cruise said they had taken ocean cruises on the big ships with 1000's of people and this was so much better. We booked our trip completely thru Viking including air fare and everything was handled extremely well. We would definitely like to do another cruise. Read Less

2 years ago I did the Paris to Normandy cruise and loved it! I thought the Grand European tour sounded terrific and I was not at all disappointed - everything was exceptional in every way. Viking really knows how to do things right and well!!! I can't wait to do another cruise!!!! The outstanding crew could not have been better - Marek, our program director, was excellent, knowledgeable, approachable, and talented in so many ways. Our chef and his staff did a superb job of offering a wide variety of culinary choices and Vanessa, our concierge, became a valuable source of information and suggestions for questions on the numerous ports we visited. My state room was more than adequate and it was always thoroughly clean and tidy. Our group of 13 enjoyed many opportunities to utilize the Aquavit as well as the lounge. I cannot say enough for the VIKING way of providing an exceptional travel experience!! Read Less
