Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Aegir

Always dreamed about being able to experience a Viking Cruise and it did not disappoint! We did a 2 day extension in Budapest prior to boarding the ship. One of the best things we did was hire a private guide to show us the city from a locals perspective and it was well worth it! The embarkation process could not have been more smooth and even though we arrived 2 hours early, our room was ready ...

My husband and I had been planning a wonderful birthday celebration for him, so we decided on Viking. We had heard from many friends on how superb and excellent it was to travel with Viking. This was not our first cruise as we have done several cruises at least 1 every 2 years, fortunately enough with other very high-end lines - Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. We are lucky enough that we can afford ...

We chose this cruise because we wanted to re-visit some of the places we had seen on the Grand European cruise and see new places. The cruise Director and staff were exceptional. We had a bad odor in our bathroom that had to be attended to on two different occasions and never as completely eliminated. This odor caused my wife to have an asthma attack that has continued for almost two months. We ...

It was recommended by previous friends and relatives who had travelled with Viking numerous times. Having done many ocean cruises we decided to try a river cruise. It did not disappoint the excursions were very good only you need to be fit with all the walking involved but from our point of view they were excellent. Staff were very helpful nothing too much trouble and always very professional in ...

We arrived late in Amsterdam & nobody was there to meet us I contacted Viking and was told to take a taxi & they would reimburse me. I did and Viking made good on their word. Our room was very nice and the staff was delightful, the food was excellent. We had a bad odor in our bathroom that had to be tended to twice and still never went away. I have occupational asthma & the smell triggered an ...

We had never done a river cruise and had heard from others that Viking was a good choice. We loved the smaller scale of being on a river cruise and the staff to cruisers ratio. The meals on board were so well done and we loved that there were food options reflecting specialties of each area we were visiting. The information sent before the cruise detailing the shore excursions was excellent. The ...

First and last trip with Viking River Cruises.

Our original ship, the Lif was diverted just two days before our 3-week trip, to replace a Viking ship that hit and sunk a sightseeing boat in Budapest (28 lives lost). Our replacement, the Embla had a very excellent staff, but struck an anchored barge our first night out, and subsequently lost one of its generators (which power the electric motors) and 1/3 of its required speed. This cut short or ...

We had never been on a River Cruise, but had a great experience on a Viking Ocean Cruise last year, and did the Amsterdam To Budapest Cruise with two extra days in Amsterdam—booked on our own. The crew was wonderful: very attentive and helpful. Our veranda stateroom was okay, but without anywhere to sit, other than the bed or on the single chair provided, it was simply not a good place for us ...

Had never been on a river cruise before. New locations for us. Saw and learned about places of world had not explored before (Budapest to Bucharest). Good sightseeing tours provided. Fun to have a treat when coming back on board after a morning of touring, Great to get to starting city a day or 2 early to see more of the city. Appreciated not having children on the ship. Cabin well fitted ...

Viking was not forthcoming about the impact of low water on the rivers!

We chose this cruise (Bucharest to Amsterdam) for its length and itinerary. Just before leaving for Bucharest, we got an email from Viking saying that there might be a problem between Passau and Regensburg so we were prepared for a minor disruption in our journey. What happened though was it took us 4 boats and countless endless bus rides to complete our trip. Obviously Viking cannot be ...
