having been ill recently my wife booked this cruise at the last minute as a pick me up., With little or no valuable concern for the overall appearance of internal décor ie on deck 6 we and most other guests noticed cracked windows dirty windows tired pyleless carpets ,a generous smudged paint work around most window frames.Dining at any level was at best not on a par with school dining,on a few occasions courses of food were sub standard and no attempt was made to rectify this guests just did without I noticed on a few nights the common overuse of the microwave oven desserts were amateurish and feble on the last night a course of Baked Alaska appeared this dessert is commonly known as Veinnetta in most supermarkets cut so thin as to be see through,on the last night the caberet were 8 troupers from a school concert rendering among other exerts from Mary Poppins to an audience mostly over the age 75,I could not wait till this hell at sea ended. We were on the colourful Coasts Cruise. It was a complete waste of money and a waste of 7 days holiday entitlement from work and quite honestly, with no exaggeration, the worst holiday I've ever experienced; I cried in frustration. I will never book a Thomson holiday again as a result as it feels like customer experience doesn't matter to them at all. I subsequently found out my colleague endured the same holiday with the same horrendous experience. Other passengers we sailed with, even frequent Thomson cruisers, shared the same view urging us not to avoid cruises in the future as this was incredibly poor cruise even in their eyes. We were advised by the booking agent our room would be a double. Upon arrival it was not and advised to simply contact reception and they'd alter the bed configuration. Reception advised its a common misunderstanding between booking agents and staff as no twin beds on deck 6 can be moved. We had to pay for an unexpected 'upgrade' to deck 9. What we got was a smaller room to the point that there was room for only one of us to stand and get ready at a time, less storage having only one single draw set and half wardrobe so we lived out our suit cases all week, the twin bed mattresses were pushed together without a zip which meant I fell between the gap in the mattresses every night, our window had an amazing view of a lifeboat which required maintenance so we were awoken by metal clinging several early mornings. The bed could only be accessed by climbing in it from the bottom, it could not be accessed from either side. We weren't even moved until after 9pm so unable to really do anything on our first day so it was lost. Food was basic and repetitive but edible. Dining times are inaccurate, with sit down buffets being packed away much earlier than closing. Chasing food when you're hungry is not fun. Wine was like vinegar. We paid for a beer drinks package but still charged for beer due to staff error. Getting a refund was hard due to language barriers at reception. Entertainment outside the theatre was basic and repetitive. Pool side entertainment appeared desperately cobbled together with no budget; a towel folding demonstration by housekeeping, marzipan modelling by cooks and keyboard music. The same band appears on different stages at different intervals, they're a good oldie band but who would go out to watch the same band every afternoon and evening for 7 days? There was insufficient deck seating and sunbeds. Adult jacuzzis were frequented by children playing and looked dirty. If a service is billed as adult only, it should be provided as such. If Thomson prefer a play area - remove the expectation of providing an adult only area to avoid creating disappointment. Ports of call were poor. The highlight of our cruise on the basis we had a full day at sea (which was awful as there was nothing to do / no extra entertainment put on even when weather did not allow you to sunbathe so it felt like a prison) to get there was Morocco. We were placed in a working docking yard with no passenger terminal. The 'glittering sandy beaches and tourist area' were in reality dirty, under construction, unfulfilling and felt unsafe. It's seems like Thomson have identified the cheapest port options for this cruise at the cost of customer enjoyment. Thinking back on this holiday makes me sad and angry. There's just not one single part I recall as enjoyable. We took to sleeping in the afternoons just to get thru the holiday quicker and couldn't wait to get home. I have lodged a complaint, which so far has been ignored and not even acknowledged. Read Less

We have visited the Canary Islands many times and have cruised many times with different cruise companies so this was a planned holiday as we wanted to visit the smaller islands of El Hierro and La Gomera as well as go back to Madeira and visit Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria. The itinerary lived up to our expectations and we cannot fault this at all - luckily this was the part of our holiday that did live up to expectations - we were also on a cruise and stay holiday with a week in Tenerife afterwards - also excellent. We decided to splash out on this holiday and book one of the two best cabins on the ship - the grande suite - quite a bit more expensive than the standard ocean view ones! But we had sailed on Thomson Spirit previously on 2 occasions and although it is not glamorous it has a fabulous atmosphere, fab food and equally fab staff. So as we expected equally good things with another Thomson ship we thought we would get the same great standards - how wrong we were!! The cabin can only be described as 'brown' and drab looking - rust on the paintwork and has definitely seen better days. The bathroom was the worst - no sink grate, bath plug chain rusty and laid on the bath side, and a hole in one of the bath robes. We had to request toiletries each time we needed them and we had a broken window blind in the bedroom which never got fixed despite reporting it. Without this our bedroom area wasn't private as our room overlooked the Bridge. We had 2 TVs but neither showed up to date films like other cruise ships we have been on. We have waited 5 months for a response to our issues and guess what - they say they cant find a report of our complaints - well this is because of inefficient staff!!!!!! Do they really think that cabin staff in the top priced cabin on the ship shouldn't be helping us with any problems? The ship is being sold off in November and is clearly being run down - staff show little interest and there is no atmosphere on the ship. There was very little day time entertainment - they was never any music playing around the ship like on other ships we have been on so if you didn't get off during the day you would be bored unless you liked the quiet life. Officers would say hello and smile as they passed you but the rest of the staff couldn't have cared what was going on. We can appreciate this, if they didn't know whether they had a job to go to then this would obviously affect them but from our point of view we had paid a lot of money for a good experience. If you can avoid this ship - avoid it - book something else. Read Less

This was my wife and my first ever cruise where if this was to go by may have put us off forever. The plus points were that places we visited were lovely, the staff were friendly and cleaning staff tried to keep the boat clean. Now the negatives which I put into sections:- The boat. Not known at booking this ship is well past its active life and should have been retired years ago. From when you board it is a throw back to the 1980's with the decor and facilities showing their age with lack of repair. The main staircases for example may have been of Crome and glass but was all so heavily scratched there was no way the poor cleaners could ever get a shine. There were worn unrepaired carpets and the interior lift doors were scratched with graffiti making you feel as though you were in a car park lift. I do not want to labour this section but could go on as the ship was old outdated and poor throughout. Cabin We has chosen to upgrade to a larger outside cabin. Well this was worse than the public areas of the ship and have videos to prove it. The chest of draws were falling apart where the draws did not close, had large poorly filled holes in them and were heavily scratched. The carpet had come away and was frayed on all walls. The fridge was falling apart preventing the cupboard from closing. The ladder for the bunk style bed if you needed it was hanging from the wall and was not secured or able to be secured so kept coming loose in choppy water which was a H&S hazard. There were exposed electrical fitments and falling apart fitted radio. The very small shower had a rusted shower head, exposed rusted pipe work, poor repair patches to the shower walls and the soap/shower gel dispenser was hanging broken from the wall. If all of this wasn't bad enough every time you used the shower it would flood the bathroom floor. We reported our concerns to reception by was told the ship was full and nothing could be done so had to report this when we returned home as the ship has no formal Thompson rep! Drinks When I booked I was sold on the all inclusive promise by Thompson. Please be aware this is NOT the case. Only about 40% of the drinks menu is covered on the all inclusive with everything else including water, yes water having an extra charge. You are pestered by reception to buy an upgraded drinks package to "fully inclusive" for ONLY £75 each for 7 days and then also a further £75 for the wine upgrade of 5 bottles as they know the wine served is so terrible. So poor as being in an area where a good bottle of wine can be picked up for about 5 euros. Sailing The ship was due to sail to Agadir in Morocco but due to bad weather could not make it. Not a problem as I understand safety comes first however the notice of this was through a shaft note on our bed which we found when returning to the ship at 5pm that evening. There was no staff on hand to offer options or guidance as to help explore Madeira as they all took the opportunity to leave the ship and left you wondering whether a further walk around town was your only option. The other frustration was that apparently not making it to Agadir is a regular occurrence and was not worth paying the extra cost for this particular cruise due to this (information from other passengers who had only booked this on a cheap Last minute deal and sailed it before) I am not one to moan generally and especially about First Choice/Thompson as have been a loyal customer of theirs for many years however this experience has left me concerned about their downhill decline. I have tried to keep this as brief as possible but please do not use this boat if you want a decent cruise although can highly recommend the route as the islands are very beautiful Read Less

What a drab ship which reminds me of a ferry or worse. The food was like school dinners/baby food. The buffet consisted of processed cheese, processed ham and smoked mackerel. A cheese board with very large blue cheese without a cloth so everyone held it whilst carving a slice. Disgusting. The hot food was equally bad. Poor quality sausages & mash, small fish fillets swimming in greasy whatever. Captains' night I had seafood pasta, 2 large prawns and half an imitation crab stick plus a mound of sticky pasta. Wooden sticks to stir coffee. Every port we were moored furthest from town then at one we were charged £5 p.p. for the shuttle bus. At least 700 pax left the ship = £3500. The area around the pool was packed with sun beds but most were reserved if not occupied and impossible to get a sun bed. There was no control of people reserving them for the whole day. I really cannot say anything good about th cruise and we had upgraded because we were advised that the cabins are very small. I was counting the days to disembarking and even though of leaving early. The cruise was on average what you would expect. The food, drink, entertainment, and ship was nothing more than what you would expect on a cruise at the expense paid. If this was the worst than I would have marked higher. A few staff were good, cleaning staff and security were excellent - very polite, well mannered, looking after the guests. However most of the staff acted as if they clearly did not want to be there, especially most of the drinks waiting staff. You could see the background politics i.e. arguments and bitchiness. The aftermath of the arguments could be seen clearly while serving customers. On a 7-day cruise we must have waited near enough 24 hours in total to be served drinks during shows we watched. The entertainment was average, but the waiting staff must have enjoyed it as they spent a lot of the time watching it and dancing along. The casino was terrible. We put a bit of money aside to go to the casino (thinking we would get drinks served at the gaming tables due encouraging us to stay at the tables longer which is impossible if you have to keep going to get a drink yourself). While at the table we asked for a drink and got told it wasn't their area to serve drinks. Having to leave the table to get a drink saved us money. Food on the ship is what you would expect. Drink is done in small measures with plenty of ice to hide it- what you would expect. Went for a non-alcoholic drink (coffee and orange juice) at 9.30am and was charged- some time restrictions were for no reason. This was the first cruise we went on and it was average to what we expected. Nothing jumped out to give it a wow factor. Entertainment staff were average and also ignorant- never saying hello and walking by guests ignoring them. You would think that a simple "morning" as they walk by would be given as a courtesy. Walking round off ship, passing by none of the members of staff would even say hello, apart from the security. Again you would think this is common courtesy. The flight with Thomson on the way there was as expected. On the way back I got physical and verbal abuse for reclining my chair due to needing the room ( tall guy). The staff on seeing this did nothing. Some people did enjoy the cruise but several couples we spoke to, agreed it was below par or worse. Read Less

A Butlin’s Holiday Camp on the High Seas……… As seasoned cruisers with thirty years’ experience of cruising with a variety of companies on several ships this has to be our worst possible experience to date and are not surprised that only 50% or thereabouts of clients are satisfied. After foolishly booking this holiday hurriedly at a Thomson’s Travel shop and realising we paid £350 more than the internet price only to be told by the travel advisor I booked with that this is the shop price showing on their website. So basically hard luck! Not the best of starts to the holiday. However in search of some winter sunshine and hopefully a culinary experience we reserved a Balcony Premier Suite on Deck nine at an inclusive cost of almost £3000 for the week, regrettably a five star price for a one star service. We did incidentally have the sunshine but not the culinary experience we had been anticipating. The food presented was continually bland, boring, repetitive and basic, totally lacking in the usual flair and creativity that we have previously experienced on other cruise ships. We had chicken and salmon presented on the lunch and dinner menu each day which appeared in a different guise on each occasion with not much variation unless you were prepared to pay a supplement. You could select fillet, ribeye or T Bone steak each day at a supplement of £12.95 and always available as an alternative was, Hot dog with sautéed onions, chicken breast, salmon grilled or boiled, spicy Moi Bo Tofu and steamed rice or cheese burger with fries. Not exactly a gourmet experience after investing £3000! You could choose to eat in their up-market bistro at a cost of £19.95 pp but as this food was prepared by the same chefs in the same kitchen we never chanced it. The reports from fellow cruisers were not complimentary. Our cabin was a suite with balcony on the top deck which was tired, with furnishings showing signs of age and wear and the bathroom was an experience to behold. The bathroom was grubby, tiling and pointing was botched and discoloured and crying out for refurbishment and considering this was a Premium grade cabin the mind boggles as to the quality of accommodation in other parts of the ship. At a breakfast conversation with other fellow guests a lady remarked that if you sit quietly in your bathroom you could hear the fungus breeding! As we had no alternative but to accept this we could at least have a laugh about it. The ship itself was very shabby in places, dated, grubby, oppressive décor everywhere in colours of orange and brown, cheap plastic furnishings showing signs of excessive wear in most of the public areas. The sunbeds on the decks were of the white plastic type with a blue very discoloured fabric topping that looked totally grubby, sticky and uninviting. On the occasions we would to have liked the opportunity of relaxing on a sunbed alas they were all reserved, Germanic style. The seasoned Thomson customers come prepared with two coloured plastic clips to clip their towel onto the sunbed and fold it down thus reserving their spot for the day. This is done every morning prior to breakfast despite the warning in the ships newsletter that reserved sunbeds are not permitted and items left on them will be removed. I did mention this to one of the white suited officers who shrugged his shoulders and walked on! We didn’t wish to enter the daily sun bed competition so used our balcony as an alternative. The entertainment on board was limited to song and dance routine every evening with a different theme each evening but a total lack of variety. On one occasion we were subjected to a very third rate comedian (at least that’s what he called himself) who virtually died a death on stage after his first appearance. He was supposed to give a second appearance during the cruise but fortunately for us he never appeared again. The one saving feature of this cruise which has been repeatedly mentioned in other reviews was the very pleasant and efficient nature of the service staff, namely cabin stewards, waiters at table in restaurants, bars and all public areas as being helpful, polite, personable and extremely efficient but we learnt that these folks are not employees of Thomson’s but are agency employees. So Thomson’s can take no credit for this one great strength we evidenced during the week. We sincerely hope these good folks are not being as exploited as we the paying guests have been. Quite frankly we were relieved when this experience ended and were very pleased to see the back of this vessel. If this is Thomson’s best shot at Cruising they are welcome to it, we shall certainly not be retuning or recommending. This was a once in a lifetime experience never to be repeated. Welcome to the Thomson ‘Discover your smile’ maxim whatever this is supposed to mean!!! NO MORE BROCHURES PLEASE……. Read Less

Upon arriving at the (not so) grand suite we were met by filthy linen and towels, dust and hair all over the dressing table, soft furnishing's used as toilet tissue and general disrepair. Paid for all inclusive drinks, whilst it is accepted that this excludes (genuine) premium drinks, to be informed that unbranded 500ml still water is a premium drink and therefore not included on all inclusive sets the tone well. The house wine is vile, didn't know wine that bad existed. Food is awful, unless you pay a £15 premium for a steak, which then just about meets the minimum standard i would of expected anyway. If you pay to eat in the bistro restaurant every night, that is at least palatable, but why should you. Was charged for excursions that we showed were pre booked and paid up a month or more in advance, only to be told no refund could be issued on board. Contacted Thomson customer service on our return, expected a reply within 28 days (as they state), around 60 days later we received a letter basically calling us liars and stating that there was no record of our complaints onboard. No apology let alone refund. Absolute worst experience ever. Wasn't especially cheap as we paid for the Grand (hahaha) suite and AI drinks. Don't pack swimwear, how anybody can go near the pools or jacuzzi is beyond me. Pack plenty of shoes though, as it invariably is always the furthest ship from port. Read Less

this was a last minute decision to go away for new year after a particularly bad year, we thought the break would do us good. As we are not new to cruising we thought this would be a lovely cruise around a familiar area. How wrong could we be, we did not expect this to be 5 star however we did expect a certain level of comfort. Cabins were so small only one person could stand up at a time, the vibration was so bad the tiles in the bathroom were literally falling off the wall before our eyes, the towels were grey with use and the fittings were falling apart. I complained to the reception and asked to speak to the hotel manager on board, was told he would be in touch ASAP. this was on day one of our 7 days and we have been home for 5 days and still no sign of him despite attending reception every day where staff were very un helpful and sometimes down right rude. The food was terrible and the service and cleanliness in the dining room was abysmal, on one occasion we had to wait for a table to be set and when we sat down I could tell what the previous occupant of the table had eaten as much of it was still on the table, when I disapproved the waiter brought a fresh napkin and covered the food stains, we promptly left without eating. The sun deck was around the funnel which constantly omitted soot onto the deck, sun loungers and sun bathers. The decks were never washed down and the sun loungers were in a filthy state. The pool deck was constantly in a state of chaos with cheap, tatty game shows conducted by very amateur entertainment hosts and was like being on a cross channel booze cruise. The Majesty was like a converted cross channel ferry and is only good for scrap. Overall this was a complete disaster and Thomson should butt out of the cruise industry and leave it to those who know what they are doing. Read Less

This was our first ever cruise. Most people always recommended cruises, apart from the people we spoke to on this ship who would also never go on the Majesty again. We know next year this ship will be finishing but if you want luxury, good food, good ports of call, don't go on this one. The first week the staff were painting parts of the promenade deck which was supposed to be for sunbathing, so we had to put up with parts of the deck being chained off and stinking paint fumes. We know these jobs sometimes need to be done, but the ship had been docked up for three weeks previous to us going because of the engine fire so why couldn't it have been done then? The staff overall on ship were good and helpful. The cabin was small, we could have upgraded for another £200 the second week which would have given us a larger set of drawers and two foot extra floor space between the beds, that's all. The top deck where the cold and never heated pools were was like being on a booze cruise, loud and rowdy where most people ate and drank all day. We have been with Thomson Holidays many a time over the years, but the standards and quality are no longer there. If we ever try a cruise again years down the line we have been recommended P & O, but for now give us land any day. Read Less

We had never done a Western Mediterranean cruise before and we were really looking forward to seeing places that were new to us: Monaco, Monte Carlo, Florence, Corsica and Marseilles. The Thomson Majesty is a smaller ship than others in their fleet and not nearly as good. When we first got on board the ship it appeared to have developed a list. The first three days after leaving Palma went as expected. After a day at sea we visited Villefranche (for Monaco/ Monte Carlo) and Livorno (for Florence). Then the problems began. The ship broke down on Friday night due to a fire in the engine room and we were adrift for six hours without electricity. This meant that there was no power to work the elevators, the air conditioning or the vacuum operated toilets. The toilets in the public areas soon backed up, were a disgusting mess and were unusable. Since the cabin lights didn't work people left their cabin doors open when they went to bed to get some light from the emergency lamps out in the corridor. The crew we came across didn't seem to know what to do about even simple requests like providing bottled water (since the normal supply wasn't working). After six hours they got the engines working again and we returned to Livorno for repairs until Sunday afternoon. This meant we missed our next destinations of Corsica and Marseilles. The captain was poor at communicating and we were often left without information. We eventually sailed from Livorno at 1pm on Sunday but only arrived at Barcelona on Monday lunchtime after another day at sea. There was a terrible stench of sewage on the lower decks and the air conditioning had never worked properly again after the fire on Friday night. We were pleased to leave this awful ship on Tuesday morning back in Palma, Majorca. The catering on board this ship was not as good as previous Thomson cruises. PartIcularly at fault was the self-service food: at breakfast, items like bacon, sausage, hash browns and eggs were usually luke-warm or cold. There were also inexplicable restrictions on what was available: you could get yogurts for breakfast but none were available for lunch or dinner. There was no ice cream in the self service restaurant so if you wanted any you had to go to the other restaurants with waiter service. The standard and variety of food available was not as good as other Thomson ships. The Thomson Majesty cruise was a huge disappointment: more of an ordeal than a holiday. Never again! Read Less

We chose this cruise to do for our honeymoon as we could only get away for a week and wanted to travel to a variety of places. We were attracted to the destinations on the Treasures of the Mediterranean and in general these did not disappoint but the ship itself was a huge disappointment. First of all the staff were all due to leave the ship in 6 weeks time and they made sure that everyone was aware of it! It must have been mentioned by almost every staff member that we had dealings with and it seemed like a lot of them had just given up on customer service for this reason. I understand that the crew are away from home for long stints and must really look forward to the end of their contract but it was still our holiday and it felt like there was no interest or care in looking after us. The entertainment on board was mediocre - some nights it was absolutely fantastic and other nights completely average but the most disappointing thing about it was the lack of variety. It was the same format every night - a choice of either a singing show or some sort of quiz.... and that was it. The casino was another let down - often not even opening at the advertised times. On several occasions there were casino tutorials and cut price tables which never materialised. The casino staff were particularly rude - standing around talking amongst themselves and completely ignoring you if you were the first to a table - as if you were an inconvenience for interrupting their chat. The food was a massive let down. Re-heated, greasy, some under-cooked, some over-cooked, bland. Some nights I had to settle for a cheese roll because I just couldn't face another disgusting meal. On one night they were serving fish and chips at the evening buffet and when I cut into the fish there must've been enough actual fish in it to make a fish finger and the rest was just a wad of greasy batter - terrible!! The ship itself was not big enough to accommodate the number of passengers on it. It didn't seem to matter what time we went for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it was always a struggle to find somewhere to sit. The same scenario when you wanted to just sit on deck in the sunshine - not enough tables and not enough sun loungers. Another factor that we found particularly disappointing was that despite the ship knowing that it was our honeymoon there was absolutely no effort made to acknowledge this. Now, we weren't expecting anything fancy but they managed to put 'Happy Birthday' posters up on the doors of cabins where the occupants were celebrating a birthday but we received nothing. Both my husband and I have been on and had dealings with lots of other cruise ships through work and for leisure and have always been really surprised and pleased with how much the staff can't do enough for you. Not the case here. A small gesture would've made all the difference. On the plus side the ports that we stopped in and the excursions that we went on were fantastic. It was always just a shame to have to get back on the ship at the end of the day. We would highly recommend Menorca on horseback and driving the Amalfi Coast and visiting Pompeii. Overall, the ship was too small for the occupancy, tired, lacking in love - the staff seemed downtrodden, morale low and genuinely excited to be going home. We certainly wouldn't recommend this ship and probably wouldn't even choose to cruise with Thomson again after this. Read Less

On the last night the Cruise Director gave a speech about the minority(50 or so)who slate this Ship post cruise. We need your feedback etc etc.But clearly if its negative they don't. I had been on a Celebrity Cruise of the Western Caribbean many years before and fondly remembered my experience. Its human nature to compare and on that basis I would recommend spending a little extra on a better cruise. On arrival at room it smelled pretty bad.It was very small for 3 people(my partner and son- their first cruise). The ship is only 40,000 tonnes so you do get a bit of side sway at times(which made them a little nauseous). The staff were lovely on the whole just the odd less than happy individual. The pool deck was a constant battle for seating(to many guests 1678 and way to few seats/room).The food was my biggest problem. It was at best over cooked(meat/fish etc)especially breakfast which gets cooked early and stored in storage lockers. The deserts were extremely bland(although look tempting).Although good selection of fruit. The lifts were faulty and almost impossible to access throughout the trip. The entertainment I enjoyed on one night only(the lloyd webber/rice tribute night).Give them their due they try very hard, its just very amateurish with questionable choreography. The singing varied widely from poor to almost ok. The ships condition is rather dated and unkept. Some dining chairs were heavily stained/soiled.It just lacked refinement and class in every department. My partner and son enjoyed the cruise but had nothing to compare it with.I will not travel with Thomson cruises again despite the enticements to do so.Their is so much better out there believe me. We are already planning our next cruise with Celebrity. I want them to experience something altogether superior for a little bit more. Read Less

The fact it was going to Morocco was of interest and it fitted in with the time we had . The itinery itself left a lot to be desired. The onboard catering was of very poor quality. On the buffet asked for ice cream to be told they have no freezers on this floor and could only put ice cream on once a week. They did sometimes put on wok cooking that was good. We had an outside cabin so small only one person could stand up at a time. The bathroom was more like a small wet room, water would run down the door and flood the carpet. Have to say the room was clean as was the bedding. The carpet in the passage ways well worn. The entertainment so second rate. I am hard pushed to find something really good. My honest opinion is that Thompson need to take a close look at their cruises. If this is their standard. I certainly won't use them again. The general public once on board have no choice and who wants to spend their time complying. You buy wifi time only to find you can't use it in your cabin You had to sit by a window on the promenade to get a signal. Read Less

we have never on this ship before, last year we were on the celebration and loved everything about the cruise, with not 1 complaint, right from the start this cruise failed, no one from Thomson to meet us as we got off the plane to tell us that we had to collect our own luggage or even where to collect it from, nor were we told HOW to exit the airport terminal, once we found our way out of the airport we were finally meet by the cruise director and taken to the coach, it was only when we got to the ship we found that WE had to collect our luggage, it then cost us €25 to get our cases from the airport. TV was unwatchable, off more than on, we were woken up at 6:45am 2 mornings by kids NOT being looked after by their parents. cabin crew wanted to clean cabin just after 8am even though we had do not disturb. No UK sockets and no adapters available on board ship. the stuff left in cabin for drinks ( tea coffee etc) made 1 drink each then had to go to coffee bar to order more drinks, the drinks left in cabin to buy were not even in a fridge so red hot as no fridge in cabin. we eat in the buffet all the time building up friendships with a few of the waiters as well the head waiter who set up a wonderful surprise on our wedding anniversary, we always found the staff really excellent, the entertainment was good even met a singer (Benjamin Moss) we had made friends with on the Celebration singing on the majesty, we found the cost of shore excursions to much and a total waste of time so we went ashore when we wanted to and got more enjoyment that way finding our own way around the places we went. Started with the flight being delayed for 2 hours - which didn't bother me too much as we was on a dream liner, so ill just get straight to point... Got on the boat and went to the room, what an absolute hell hole... tiny, there was a stain on the bedding which stayed there all week not changed once! Mold all over the bathroom which was wipeable, and we had threadbare towels and that's just the start of it. The room smelt like old cheesy feet. we had the drinks package on our visit, however there are still a lot of things that we had to pay for, including water ???? Dined at le bistro which was meant to be their fine dining restaurant, sent back every meal... apart from the fruit salad which i could have got from the buffet.Had some treatments at the spa, and being from that industry i feel they was very helpful in there and really nice until one of them told my partner that he should return for more massages as his back was very bad. - not only is this advice incorrect but it is not good practice to recommend deep tissue massages x5 in one week! he went the next day and told the girl his back was sore and that he wouldn't be able to have the massage on his back that day so he had a leg massage instead. he then come back to the room and asked if i would go and cancel the the rest, went down to the salon and was told that i couldn't cancel unless the spa manager was there. and to return at 6 which i did and the manager was in a treatment. we got ready for dinner was then harassed by the girl from the salon as we was walking to dinner, long story short, they charged us for all the treatments that we didn't have although we followed the correct cancellation policy. We are in our 30's and would not go back on another Thomson cruise at all even if it was free! all the ports we stopped at were boring absolute dives with nothing to do in, apart from Gibraltar where we got to see the monkeys :-), was horrified by some of the stories the older people was telling me about when we stopped in Tangier, (Morocco) The boat is probably OK if you have low standards, but we are used to staying fairly nice places and this is far from luxury. no point also buying the WIFI packages as you would be lucky if you get internet on one day. If you are a younger family i would definitely say book elsewhere as it is mainly old people on the boat and they moan about the kids running about and playing... overall a complete disappointment and the only person that made it somewhat enjoyable was our waiter Bryan. I will be contacting Thomson head office and escalating my complaint. Read Less

I was always told "if you have nothing positive to say, don't say anything at all"! However, after reading some of the reviews I felt I should give my opinion. Firstly I agree with all that ' STEVE L 24' said in his review, This ship is not tired, as some have kindly referred to it, but should be RE-tired! It's so well past it's best I believe it's beyond redemption. The cleaning staff do there very best to try and bring the best out in it but honestly I think it's fit for the scrap yard. The cabins are so small you spend your time dancing around your partner, there is no room to swing a gerbil let alone a cat! The bathroom towels were dirty washed out grey and threadbare or torn. Our cabin steward done a sterling job keeping it clean. We complained about our shower being so hot you risked third degree burns under it and there was no way of controlling it, we were told a plumber would be straight there to sort it, Two days later no plumber just a note asking if WE had sorted the problem. The food is no better than a 3* all inclusive, yes it may be served nicely to you in the restaurants but it was still the same food served at the buffet. I approached the egg station on our last morning to witness the chef spitting in the sink where he washed his hands. He was not alone, one of the glass collectors, on the top desk, happily found a secluded spot behind the sunbathers and was also witnessed spitting his afternoon away. The drinks package is like no other, we have cruised many times with other cruise lines and always purchase the drinks package, never before have I had to pay supplements for cocktails. Also they were not serving the premium brands that you were led to believe you would. I ordered a Bacardi and coke and thought I had received a dark rum by mistake so returned it, however, when I received the same tasting drink I approached the bartender myself, he handed the Bacardi bottle to me to smell and I instantly informed him it was not Bacardi in that bottle. He sheepishly opened a new bottle in front of me and just laughed. Now We are not snobs, as some people are being accused of on this site, we have high expectations when we book high quality holidays, thus I did not have high expectations for this holiday. But never in a million years would I have expected this. It was very Benidorm like around the pool, but I don't mind that we just went up to the next deck to be squashed in like sardines while being covered in soot from the funnels. There was nothing pleasant about this cruise other than disembarking for home. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we needed some sunshine, due to the rotten weather in UK and we knew there was a good chance of some down on the Canary Islands. Chose Thomsons as we had sailed with them before an had a great time, so assumed this would be the same again. How wrong we were!! The actual cruise was good. Food OK although sometimes a bit bland. Entertainment was very good and he entertainment team worked hard to provide a decent show. Their two best being 'killler queen' and 'west end wonders' - with Les Miserables being excellent. However, the general state of the ship is pretty dire with many of the public areas having dirty and frayed carpets. We were on deck 4 and the corridor area was filthy, with what looked like oil stains. The deck area was too small for the amount of passengers travelling when the ship is at full capacity, and those inconsiderate passengers who 'save' sun loungers, despite the company saying they would be taking steps to stop this..........(not the ship's fault but they could do as they promised in their ship's magazine news sheet). Having the smoking area right beside one of the restaurants in not clever, as when the doors are open, the smoke and smells drift into the room and affect those diners close to the door. We have sailed with several different companies and are well aware this company is classed by some as the 'budget' end of the market, but having used them before, we were expecting more. The two hot tubs next to the pool are emptied but left 'open' in the evenings and on sail away parties, people were allowed to climb in, shoes et c on and dance in the empty tubs, thus scratching and dirtying them....... But, as we discovered, that was the least of our problems.........on to the cabin review. 4986 -- Avoid this cabin!! Among the problems.......:Hole in duvet cover, Damage to bedside drawers Bathroom disgusting.............. Loo seat painted with ordinary household paint! Loo seat hinges broken, continual dripping of water from cistern into bow, meaning we had to keep flushing to avoid it overflowing, chips in was basin (attempt at repairs with discoloured enamel), tap temperature indicator insert missing, shower area tiles discoloured and grouting/silicon black in areas, missing in others. Shower curtain grubby and finally.....the pull out washing line in the shower was thick with MOULD. When reported to reception we were told we were sailing to capacity so no spares and the (so called) receptionist that he would get the ship's CARPENTER to have a look!! Advised him the bathroom needed stripping and re-tiling etc which was not a small job and not possible which we were occupying it but was assured I would be 'amazed at what our carpenters can do'. Needless to say, no one - carpenter or otherwise - arrived and we heard NOTHING more. We couldn't be bothered to chase as the staff attitude showed nothing would be done, so we just enjoyed the cruise as best we could, having very careful showers with as little contact with surfaces as possible. We have complained to Thomsons as soon as we retuend so await their comments... Read Less

We chose this cruise as Thomson had always been pretty good. WHAT ON EARTH HAS HAPPENED TO THEM? For a start the food was absolutely abismal. Horrible overcooked vegetables, terrible meat dishes which were sometimes unrecognizable as to what they were, and the salads hardly non-existent unless you love eating lettuce all the time. The desserts were like something you would have at a kids birthday party, e.g. jelly, sponge cakes. I ended up eating cheese and biscuits every night and managed to get decent food when going on shore. By the way even the cheese was the same three types night after night. This is the only cruise I have been on where I actually LOST WEIGHT! As for the drinks, the wine was served in minute glasses (nearly gone in three sips) but charged at what you would get a decent sized glass in a pub. We ended up buying wine on shore at a fraction of the ones on board. The cabin was ok but the ship is in need of a big facelift. As for the entertainment, that was pretty good but very had to find somewhere to sit if you didn't get in at least half an hour before it started. Seems like Thomson just wants to make as much money as it can squeeze out of everybody and the whole lot has gone to pot. Most disappointed and will never go again. Read Less

So many errors and complaints! Don’t know where to start! I would never recommend going with Thomsons to anyone! They don’t want to know if you have a ruined holiday they will just fob you off! Like they did us! They don't care of your happy or not! • Major Safety Hazard! Cigarette Smoke coming out of the air-conditioning. They didn’t want to know. Due to staff smoking on Level 2! Also smelt it really bad at the top of the stairs level 3 coming from level 2! This was the first observation I noticed when I boarded the ship on day 1 and throughout our week! Staff obviously smoking on level 2 which breaches fire safety regulations! They Tried to cover it up by spraying air freshener in the middle of the night in the corridor! Also blamed my neighbours! The neighbouring cabins complained too and they blamed it on our cabin! Putting everyone on the ship at risk. • Fobbed Off even when I written to head office to report it! • I could write an essay of how disappointed we were with the cruise but will put in bullet points: • Food very disappointing, very poor quality food, and always stone cold. Even when we sent food back as it was cold it didn’t come back hot!! The buffet food was cold also, stone cold toast every day! Very poor standards! Oh I must mention the homemade muesli it looked lovely, but was horrible like eating fake sugar or a sugar cube. A health hazard it was far far too sweet for breakfast! The porridge tasted like glue!! Horrible!! The lady you have cooking on the Wok Station in the Buffet is a terrible cook, worst stir-fry I have ever had in my life!! No smoked salmon and lobster on this cruise! Everyone complaining about the quality of the food. • Al A Carte Resturant – Don’t pay extra £19.95 Not worth it! Worst Lobster I have ever had in my life! Dry Chewy and like eating a salt cube! • Poor attention to detail! Dead Flowers on the tables for half of the week! • Next to no sleep all week! Due to the constant banging of doors and staff making noise. 2am at the end of the week I called reception to see what it was that night and later found out in the morning it was the staff banging down the suitcases while collecting. The Reception offered my ear plugs, which I had taken away with me and was already wearing and the loud bangs were still keeping me awake! • So much noise at night! You won’t sleep on this cruise unless you have the unlimited drinks package!! • Wrong type of room given and dirty Great Welcome Aboard!!!! After a very long day travelling! • Room was very dirty, Pubic Hair and Pebble Dashed Faeces on a closed sanitised, supposedly cleaned toilet! Cleaners not doing their job properly! Or, so rushed into cleaning that many rooms, short cuts had obviously been taken! • Yellow, Urine stained Sheets, Mattress, Mattress Protector and Pillows. Absolutely disgusting! They expect people to sleep on them! Now wonder they tie the sheets to the mattress, it’s so you don’t see the state of the mattress!! • Throughout the week when they changed the sheets we got more stained sheets!! Yellow urine patches right in the middle of the sheets! Slept on my pool towel 2 nights until they changed the sheets, then more dirty sheets put on so I told housekeeping and they changed them for us. But problems like this should never occur in the first place! • Card to our room, hardly ever worked to let us enter our room, which took hours out of our week, constantly trailing to reception to get a new card. Rude Reception Staff, Constant Errors! Trips every day and in some cases twice a day, problems with room keys not letting us in the room. Happened to so many people on the cruise! They need to sort it out! • Overall I would give my holiday a 1 out of 10! Terrible!! Complications every day! Robbed of our enjoyment and relaxation due to constant problems! A ruined Birthday. Thankyou very much Thomsons! • They only good thing about this cruise was the lovely helpful waiting staff they are such hard workers and do a great job! Read Less
