The cabins on our ship were always well maintained. We had a great view off our balcony and we could hear the scenery descriptions as we sailed down the Yangtze River. We really appreciated the surprise gifts left in our cabins during our journey. As always we enjoyed the varied Viking menu which included food and beverages native to the areas we visited. The crew put on some outstanding shows ...
This was our first time cruising with Viking and the second river cruise. The cruise itself was excellent! It was interesting, scenic, fun, and educational. The ship is stunning with a convenient layout and the service of the entire staff was excellent. There were many activities, including a costume show and a hilarious Crew Show. Loved the food. There was even dancing at night, a real ...
W thoroughly enjoyed our time on Viking Emerald. Everything was well organised from our embarkation to leaving at Chonquing. All the crew were very good although one or two of the waiting staff did not have enough english to get by. The cabins were always kept in the best of order and very clean. We enjoyed this time to relax as the rest of the tour was rather hectic and a little too full. ...
First time with Viking & first river cruise well impressed. Hotels first class beds amazing in size. Ship was excellent house keeping food entertainment staff ever so friendly & helpful. Shore excursions well organized & informative tour guide Mathew was the best we have ever had humerous &funny but also very knowledgeable. Travel to embarkation & from disembarkation was pleasant & well organized. ...
The mechanics of the trip were good - everything was well planned out and the hotels that we had were great. We had a wonderful guide in Tingting. That being said, China was a bit of a disappointment due to the massive upgrading to "new" and the loss of the "old" China. They were a few really great sites and a lot of blah!
Our room on the Viking Emerald was too hot and we couldn't control ...
We had been on a previous Viking cruise, enjoyed it so wanted to try them for the China trip.
We boarded the Emerald in Chongqing and disembarked in Wuhan, the cruise being part of the Imperial Jewels of China trip. Having been to China several times, cursing the Yangtze River gave a more thorough understanding of the immensity of China as a nation who has come far. Witnessing up close the ...
This trip was well worth the money and effort. Having in mind before we left that China would be a whole new and different experience from that we had done before our expectations were met. The Hotel accommodation in Shanghai was excellent as were the Xi'an and Beijing Hotels. The river cruise took a while to get started. The first two days were slow but the excursion to the school was excellent. ...
The entire Roof of the World tour included a land package that started in Beijing, then we flew to Xian, Lhasa Tibet, and Chongqing, where we boarded the Viking Emerald and sailed down the Yangtze River to Wuhan; then flew to Shanghai, where the main tour ended (but we also took the post-extension tour to Guilin and Hong Kong). I will not give a full review of the entire trip, as this posting is ...
We took the Windows of the World tour which covered China & then we went on to Tibet. Tibet was by far the most enjoyable part of the trip except for the altitude sickness & the food. Great overview of China even though some of the trip seemed canned. Our tour guide Gao was fabulous. Extremely organized! Hotel accommodations were wonderful except in Tibet. Food & wine on the ship was great! ...
This was our first Viking cruise and won't be our last.
The organisation was superb with an escort for the whole time who flew with us on the internal flights as well as being on the ship. The ship was modern, the cabin a good size with plenty of ammenities. The service in the restaurant was good and all the staff on board were friendly.
