We chose this cruise for the itinerary. The idea of being ported right in the city and being able to walk and wander through the city was what we wanted. We were surprised at how well organized and superior the included excursions were. The staff was very accommodating. Everything was well organized. It was one of the best trips we have been on. Having Viking arrange the flights, transfers, and excursions made this stress free. We booked a pre and post cruise stay in Budapest and Prague. Both hotels were in excellent location. The Viking representatives were very helpful which made the trip even better. All the shore excursions were lead by knowledgeable local guides. The dining was acceptable. Being able to sit with new friends can be challenging. Luckily, most passengers are very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed the themed dinners. Having the talk/meeting prior to the next days excursion, reassured us that we were choosing the right excursion. I would definite recommend a River cruise for those who like to walk and learn about history. We were so impressed that we booked another river cruise. Read Less

This was the second cruise on this ship, The Prestige. I chose to do this one again to see things I missed on the first cruise and because the crew are the very Best in my opinion. The staff went above and beyond taking care of everyone on board. I had a Single Cabin which is Great. The cabin had a couch which was turned into a twin bed at night. It wasn't like being on a sofa bed. There were no bars in the back, etc., just a nice twin bed. This was nice because during the day you had a couch to sit on and it made the cabin appear larger. The entertainment was Fabulous.....the piano player always did an excellent job and he played a variety of music. I really can't speak highly enough about this crew!! I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to take a River Cruise and I believe no one can improve on the standards of a Viking River Cruise. Read Less

Our plane arrived in Munich early and we thought we might have to wait for the Viking staff to take us to Passau but that was not the case. Two charming women were there to greet us and from there on every detail went smoothly. The staff remembered our names, made accommodations for our early arrival to the boat and were continually helpful. The room was always spotless and all necessities taken care of. Although, the food was good and the chef was always there to suggest dishes; I would have liked more regional food. The tour guides were likewise lovely, informative and helpful. The towns selected were beautiful and interesting and we would not have gone to most of them if we had not been on this cruise. We would definitely go again. Especially to places that we would not go on our own such as Russia. It is a lovely, carefree way to travel. Read Less

Major problem exist with the Viking representative, she was not informed or had never taken the cruise we took. The information we had stated there was an elevator in the ship (There was not). There was no considerations for the Handicapped in a wheelchair anywhere during the ports and tours. The agent stated there should be no problem. In Southern Germany; while I quickly took my wife to the museum for handicapped (only a building length away), the rest of the group disappeared to the Neuschwanstein Castle which I did want to see. Rush,Rush to beat the crowds she said. In other cities it was difficult for the wheelchair passenger & the one pushing down a cobblestone street & sidewalk. The cruise was very good and ports very interesting. Tours we saw were very good. The ship, cabin, dining, & on board service personnel were all very helpful and attentive to all are needs. Shore excursions and guides should have training for assistance for available wheelchair access points. (Some Did). The onboard entertainment was very good; could have enjoyed one every night....just like the ocean cruises. Read Less

heard good things about Viking. We had excellent weather and our tour guides were superb. This was our first cruise, and Viking exceeded our expectations. I upgraded the beverage package and the single malt scotch selections were great. food service was excellent as was all staff. Danielle, our cruise director, was exceptional as was Zolten, our hotel manager. we particularly enjoyed our tour of the kitchen with the executive chef. We plan to take another cruise in 2018, and would enjoy taking one with Danielle and Zolten again. The guided tours were enjoyable and educational, as well as entertaining. We particularly liked Passau, Cesky Krumlov and Bratislava. Durnstein was a special treat. While the Viking Prestoge is one of the us oder ships, we found it to be just the right size, as we had some 150 people on board, and we do not like large crowds. I think the perfect weather we had made the trip thoroughly enjoyable. We were glad we booked the extended stay in Budapest, and the Corinthian hotel was a great choice. Read Less

Greeted at the airport as designed, to bad about the bomb scare, that was only a minor indication of what was to come!! Made our way to the Prague Marriott downtown, a very nice hotel, and greeted by the viking staff on arrival - room was ready because we paid for the day previous. Keep in mind if you are flying in from NA, you'll likely be on a red eye - we were - and you won't get into your room until the afternoon. Viking and hotel staff were great. Included breakfasts with the hotel were excellent. Great time in Praque and highly recommend this stay, although we were very lucky with the weather, sunny and 18c. Supposed to be on Viking Prestige but because of accident with the Freya - earlier in the year, two dead, very unfortunately. Put on the Legend, older and cramped!! Food on the Legend was good - not excellent - but the wait staff were excellent, worked hard for their money. Don't bother paying extra for rooms, we were on middle deck, with view because you'll be tied up to other boats or docks that offer no view. Room was cramped, but clean, initially. Bed was firm, but ok. Then the sewage back up in the morning. Before 0700 an engineer comes in looking for water leak because somebody put something to large down the toilet(same as aircraft). Asked the cruise director, Steven Guy, if alternatives were available because of the water/sewage intrusion. Nope - were fully booked - and I haven't heard a thing about it. Strange because the same thing to travel companions 3 doors down, and flooding on lower deck-- Are you kidding me? Anyways, two hours later, he stops by the breakfast table, it was a matter of discussion with all, and indicates problem fixed. Nope. For the next day and half we bothered staff to clean up carpet and get rid of the smell. Did they? Well the brought us a plug in air freshener. Glad it was no problem Viking!! Viking offered $1000 off the next cruise. Sure, I want to spend $5000 to save $1000 - whats wrong with these jerks!! How is that compensation for 3 days in a stinky room. They did pay $104 for damage to clothing and dry cleaning. Resolved the problem by moving to the Prestige around noon hour on day 3. Newer ship with more amenities. The wait staff on the Prestige were as friendly as the Legend and they were tipped directly. Management were the same surly lot. On shore tours were all informative, and with the exception of one who was sort of ok, the tour guides were excellent. Food never got to be better than good, and the dinner celebrating Austria was a huge disappointment. All appetizers. The last dinner was supposed to be grilled halibut - yum! To bad it was steamed with some disgusting green sauce on it. God it was terrible! Most nights they were cheap with the included beer and wine included with lunch and dinner. 3 nights our glasses were filled. Entertainment, well the best one was the slide show on Austria, actually very interesting. The cruise director had a good voice, if you like doing karaoke! Read Less

We chose this itinerary for the cities visited and we wanted to travel in September. This was a perfect trip - the crew, the weather, all the cities we visited (Danielle was the best cruise director!) the food, the staff; there was nothing to fault and the cruise exceeded our expectations! Leaving Budapest was magical with the music, lights, wine - a perfect evening and so romantic. This is one of those momemnts you never forget! We also loved touring Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. A beautiful city and loved having the time to explore the castle and enjoy the people. All our guides were excellent and we felt like we learned so much as we toured areas/cities/buildings and cathedrals. The evenings were filled with good conversations, excellent food and entertainment. We loved the nightly briefings and looked forward to the next days adventures. Our cabin was clean and comfortable and we were surprised at our WiFi service as we were always able to check emails and send pictures. Read Less

This was our first River Cruise which e took to celebrate our 55th Wedding Anniversary. It was FANTASTIC!! We started on land in Munich, then to Salzburg; wonderful sites and wonderful guides!! Our actual Danube River Cruise was just FANTASTIC!! Only one negative which I will address later. I have recently experienced physical limitations and we were unsure if this would be a doable trip for us. Not only was it very doable, but also most enjoyable. The staff were all extremely kind, joy filled, most helpful and felt like family. For example: the chef even had us tour the kitchen with his staff there explaining the preparation of meals!! So very interesting!! The food delicious, lovely presentations and most plentiful. The ship, just the right size and in good condition. Our cabin very ample space wise, clean, and great upkeep. The nightly entertainment most enjoyable!! The shore excursions were very lovely, informative and educational with guides being very informed and able to deliver their information in understandable English. The only negative, and it was a huge negative, was that, due to another ship having crashed into locks, we need to change ships from ours to another. This took precious time from us, needing to pack and unpack, as well as being a huge inconvenience. We had chosen a River Cruise precisely because we would not have to pack and unpack. Most notable was the fact that Viking Cruise Line did not offer us any even small compensation for this unexpected inconvenience, We, however, immensely enjoyed all else about the cruise. Read Less

Saw the ads on TV and thought it would be a nice thing to try. It took us 3.5 hours to straighten out our flights that had been booked by the company. When we arrived, we were treated very well. There was a young lady that met us at the airport and directed us to a bus. When we arrived at the port, we were on a very old boat and was told that we would have to transfer to another one. The boat smelled of water damage, it was noisy and the air in the room was stale. The bed was basically two twins beds that were put side by side so we had a ridge we slept on. I believe that in Vienna, we had to transfer to another boat to finish the trip The food was okay really nothing to write home about. The service was good. I tell people to do your homework and look at the other cruise lines that may go where you want to go, the money spent , the return on investment came up short. The best part of the trip was the tours, the tour guides were great and you received information that was real and not a canned speech. Read Less

We chose this cruise largely due to the wonderful and numerous ads which depicted cruising past the House of Parliament on Viking. We were not disappointed at all. The ship was staffed by friendly and knowledgeable people, up to and including the Captain of the ship. We were met as promised at the Budapest airport and the the trip was smooth all the way until we arrived home in North Carolina. The cabin was in excellent condition. Dining was also excellent for every meal and the service was simply outstanding. All the port and shore excursions were handled well by the staff and we enjoyed ALL of the excursions. My wife and I were constantly pleased at the helpful behaviour of each and every member of the crew, including the Tour Director. There was no "downside" of this splendid trip. It was our first Viking cruise but will not be the last. Even now we are planning a Viking river cruise for the Spring of 2017. Read Less
