This cruise was our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We sailed in the Yacht Club category. Overall, we had a good time (not a great time), but as usual the lasting impression was the last impression. We pre-booked a post-cruise excursion that would give us a drive-by tour of Rome before dropping us off at the airport. We were expecting them to handle our luggage, see the sites and experience a stress-free ride to the airport. By dinner time on the evening before disembarkation day, we had not yet received our disembarkation instructions. When we inquired, the Yacht Club concierge pulled an envelope out of a stack of envelopes and gave it to us. I looked at it and there were no instructions for the excursion so I asked about it. He informed us then and only then that the excursion had been canceled because so few people had signed up for it. OMG!! When I asked what alternative arrangements had been made for us, he dismissively said, "Oh, sir, you can just take a taxi." Cancellation of the excursion was totally unacceptable, but his attitude shook me to the core. This is the concierge for the exclusive Yacht Club telling me to go find a taxi. Really? At dinner in the exclusive Yacht Club restaurant Le Muse, I asked to see the Yacht Club Director. He earned his pay with me and my group as we explained what had happened and told him we needed an alternative. Bless his heart, he was back in just a few minutes (obviously he knew about the problem before-hand) and said they had arranged a private mini-van transfer to the airport. The problems with this solution were that it cost more than the pre-booked excursion (which of course was refunded to our account) and there was no tour of Rome. The next morning, we found our mini-van and delightful driver waiting for us. We were able to arrange a drive-by tour of major sites in Rome for an extra 100 euros per couple. All told, then, the alternate excursion cost $152 more per couple. To my way of thinking, that expense should have been covered by MSC. It was not. We are not likely to sail with MSC again, but will pend a decision on that to see if MSC responds to this review. Read Less

We decided to try MSC after more than a dozen cruises. The Italian food and ambiance was attractive and as first generation Italians we were excited to try MSC. The embarkation on 2-21 was a disaster and exercise in total customer disregard. Over 2 hours in a zigzagging line and when we reached the desk to register the young lady walked away to never come back. She apparently went for lunch but was not replaced. We had to butt in the next line to get served, and no apology. The good: 1- Nice looking ship 2- Good embarkation buffet with select cheeses, parmesan, prosciutto, etc. 3- Some nice and pleasant bars on the ship with music. 4- The price was descent considering the booze package (basic one) The bad: 1- The nice ship was dirty in many areas: public washrooms, buffet area, greasy chairs, inadequately cleaned tables, beverage station mess. 2- Most items seen at the buffet on embarkation day disappeared. I asked for prosciutto and was told there was no more but saw crew members being delivered a big tray with it and other nice items 3- Dining room was dismal. The food was totally uninspired, lukewarm, repetitive and tiny portions. We had to ask repetitively to get a glass of tap water and/or coffee. The Italian night dinner was an insult to my ancestors and the food was not even at the level of Olive Garden. 4- The buffet became terribly repetitive after 4 days (10 day cruise). The salads were discolored with shades of yellow, brown, rust, and gray. The cold cuts were unsafe as we could clearly see mold and dry edges on the sliced meats. 5- The buffet lay-out was a mess as it created both gridlock and butting in. 6- Getting served a drink near the pools or bars was not easy. We ended up going to get our drinks ourselves but often waited 15 minutes to get served by one of the 4-5 bartenders who were more focused on counting ice cubes or joking with one another. 7- Our cabin had no wash cloths and we had to ask every day to get some. I guess Europeans don't use them ?? 8- Our TV did not work. We didn't care for watching TV but like to check the accuracy of our statement regularly. We complained several times and were promised a tech guy would come by "soon". After 10 days we never saw anyone. 9- We were sold a balcony room "unobstructed" but it was. Life boats in front of us, a 15 foot overhang above, and 20 ft wall on LHS jutting out. We had passengers and crew members just below our room walking and smoking, despite being on the non-smoking side. We filed a complaint but it probably got lost in file 13 10- Shows were repetitive -opera and musicals with terrible sound modulation. 11- We never got our prizes for wining trivia. We also never got our Gold Member fruit basket + 1 hour Spa session + Welcome back cocktail and yet we have an email confirming these. Read Less

First of all, I got a room with a balcony that was presented in the pictures with a nice open view. The room I got half of the balcony is made a metal that doesn't have the nice open view. 95% of other rooms have the balcony made of a transparent glass that allows the nice open view over the ocean... sunsets etc.. Anyway... that was my first disappointment. I didn't get what I paid for!! It is very rare I go on vacation and it is exactly for these type of reasons!! you never get what you pay for!! Second, this is a cruise for seniors. I was there with my family and for my family given that we live on two different continents and we don't see each other for years ( last time I spent time with my sister was 8 years ago). My group included 19 yo, 23 yo, 40, and late 40s.We expected to be able to stay a little late than mid-night maybe meeting fun people. The ship is full with seniors, the programs are boring and everything closes at mid-night. Be prepared for long boring walks back and forth and trying to have fun. The two restaurants and three bars looked nice, the dinner was decent every night. They have options that they change every evening.Dinner is ok. In general the personal is ok. They don't speak english but eventually they would bring what you want :). The breakfast had two options buffet and a la carte. The buffet is super crowded. Food is ok-ish. It is a cantina type of serving. By the end of the trip everyone was coughing left and right in your food! :) I really don't recommend the MSC tours. There isn't much time to spend on each city/island and not much time for sight-seeing, they are very disorganized, expensive and you waist your time trying to get on busses then stuck in traffic. Try to make your own schedule, find a nice beach and go there. Most public beaches aren't too clean but at least you don't stay in a bus for hours. The bus we visited Panama broke in the middle of the highway, we waited 40 min while the driver tried to fix it (some type of belt broke), eventually they sent another one. I was very surprised, and they continue the tour in the old city. Third, at the end I experienced a very unpleasant situation with an employee that scan cards and make sure you are the person that travel. Instead of being honest and give the right information that I was selected for a security check, he told us that the system broke and I can't get out of the ship until an officer comes to see me. I had to wait long time while nothing was happening. It became very messy very fast because my family was waiting for me and we all had to say Goodbye and go on our way to the different flights. To speed up the process, because other people were waiting to get out of the ship, I requested someone to bring me to the security check and in the meantime I figure out the real reason why they stopped me. I find it very unprofessional to misinform people and very disrespectful creating confusion without any reason in an already crowded/messy situation. This type of personal shouldn't be on a "hospitality" business and he should be fired. I barely had time to say goodbye and hug my sister. The entire thing just turn my stomach upside down. Read Less

great service. poor and boring food. buffett food was thesame everyday, long lines trouble finding a place to sit. dinner in dining room. very poor choices, theyecpect you to pay for lobster tail, filet, which have been included in my other cruises. samething with ice cream they sell cones or sundays etc. it cost $ $ $ for manythings that have been included in past cruises. even room service has a charge. over 4,000 people long lines everywhere. including public bathrooms which were small and not nerally enough of them. Evening entertainment was good but the samedancers and singers each nite, which became boring after a while. We will NEVER cruise MSC again. most other people we talked to felt the same. no clocks in public places, on robes in the cabin. the staff were very hard working and very freindly. they are underpaid. i willstick with Carnival, princess or my favorite Holland American in the future. This was our second voyage on the Divina and our fourth MSC voyage so we knew what to expect. Unfortunately a number of minor issues, none of which would be a reason to forgo a trip, added up to a less-then-perfect cruise. Let me expand. The bathroom lighting was poor, the cabin drawers are short, the captions on the TV ( a very small Samsung located in an awkward corner) did not work, the excursions listed on the interactive system had dates from a month before, the Daily Planner listed items that were flat-out wrong or did not exist, and there was little or no help from the excursion staff if you wanted to tour on your own. In addition, the excursion descriptions would mention food or drinks that turned out not to be, a partition door on our deck was broken and banged all night (they did repair it when we asked), and our safe batteries were dead when we entered the cabin. As for "drinks on us," a better name might be "Drinks on us, if you can find us." Bar service in the dining room was so slow that if you did not order immediately on sitting down, you might get your cocktail with desert. There is much confusion on board as to the charge for tips when you get free drinks. The consensus seemed to be that tipping would be addded, however, we did not get any such charge. On the fourth day of the cruise, our captain informed us that an unusually high number of gastrointestinal problems had been reported and that anybody with symptoms should visit the medical office for a free evaluation. In other words, norovirus! The fear of any cruiser. We realized at that point we were trapped. There was nothing to do but wash our hands every five minutes. We were lucky. Neither my wife or I got sick and we did not hear anymore about it. When we arrived back in Miami for debarkation, things went south. For some reason, we were told, US Customs was delaying our departure. Our assigned time of 9:00AM was off by about 90 minutes! Soon, the color-coded system meant nothing. Everyone was pushing and trying to make their flights or connections. Some may have missed them for sure. We only made our 12Noon flight (arrival is 7AM) by 10 minutes! We can not blame MSC if indeed the problem was caused by Immigration, but the staff quickly went into hiding and the "canned announcement" was repeated every fifteen to twenty minutes. "We are working to expedite the process, please be patient." We have no way of knowing what was really happening, but perhaps the drug bust in Mexico the month before and our stop in Columbia had something to do with it? We saw drug-sniffing dogs aboard in Miami, and we have never encountered that before. So, bottom line. The irritants I mentioned, taken individually, would never dissuade me from booking on MSC. But, when they all added together on one cruise, they weigh a lot more. We loved the interaction with Europeans, South Americans and travelers from all over the world. Read Less

After over a decade of cruising, we decided to try MSC Divina. Very disorganized crew. Late embarkation and disembarktion with no explanation. Lines for linking credit card to sea pass on ship. Only one customer service desk open. Bar service slow, rude staff, unless of course you are willing to tip an additional few dollars above the 15% already charged per drink. Those customers were catered to. Poor food selection, slow service from wait staff. Horrible problem with pushing and shoving of guests on this cruise, mostly from Europeans which was the overall consensus from most US and even some UK guests. Eataly steak house has no atmosphere and is nothing more than a pizza parlor with plastic chairs. Dining staff difficult to deal with to change dining time. Required multiple requests and standing in lines. MSC crushed a hard side suitcase with no responsibility taken by staff. Will not sail MSC again. Read Less

We chose the cruise due to the dates and itinerary from Miami Embarkation was disorganised, and chaotic. We did get off at every port and generally they were good. This was the worst cruise line we have been on by far. When we embarked the ship we found used Incontinence pads left in bins by previous residents, and no towels. Poor quality of food, very little fresh fruits and vegetables, one day we found mouldy cheese on display in the buffet. Very repetitive, lack of hygiene at best 3 star rating It is not worth pre-paying for any extra services as you get better treatment as a walk-in. We pre-paid laundry service which came back stained and crumpled. Some items had to be returned twice to get the staining out, caused by them. Our Internet package could only be on single device with only social media availability. We could have paid to add devices and access to e-mails! But didn't want to give this company any more of our money. Daytime entertainment was poor and moronic. Evening entertainment by the pool was the same. The theatre had some talented individuals which was let down by the choreography with the same stuff being regurgitated, just different songs, and frequently in Italian In the lounges again there was one or two talented performers. We did complain to MSC both onboard and post cruise but the tone of the apology letter in our view did not take our complaints too seriously. I have attached a selection of photos which show why we complained. Overall you would be better off trying perhaps Princess as better all round or maybe some other cruise line, but I would recommend giving MSC a wide berth. Read Less

Bottom Line:Food was mediocre at best. Service was poor and totally unprofessional. Extremely unorganized sitting arrangement. It basically ruined my birthday celebration/. Never again. Food: portions are extremely small. Please note that I do not go on cruises for the food. Bland, sometimes tasteless. Saw same dishes served at lunch and dinner. Service or lack off: staff simply does not care or are at least concerned about your needs. It was a fight to be considered for a table for two, although I had it confirmed beforehand when reservation was made. It was my birthday present and just wanted to enjoy being with my partner. Our waitress was better suited to be running an army than serving tables. Bordeline rude, making little effort to show some interest in what she was expected to do. If you like singing or dancing, you will be happy. That is all you get. Better be a opera lover. They are very good and pushing you to buy stuff......sales and more sales of cheap perfumes, and watches. Bar areas looked more like a mall than a pleaesent place to have a drink. NOT AGAIN..... We chose this cruise because a friend told us her husband found a good deal on a New Years Cruise. We have been on 29 cruises with another cruise line and thought it would be interesting and fun to try this line. If this had been our very first cruise ever, we would never go on another one. Embarkation was easy and quick. Our room was comfortable with a large corner balcony. But that’s where the positive ends. We discovered we were right below the buffet on the deck directly above us and we had to endure loud noises 24/7. Impossible to fall asleep. A maintenance worker told us they are setting up and tearing down constantly for meals. If that noise wasn’t bad enough, there were adults and children running through the hallway laughing and loudly talking, often in the middle of the night. A lady a few doors over told us she heard all the same noises. There were probably 500-600 kids on this cruise and 90% of them were undisciplined, running wild all around the ship, screaming and screeching. Why not take kids on a Disney Cruise! Food in the restaurant was barely warm at best, more often cold when served. Lobster was chewy, filet was not truly a filet mignon, tough, not tender. Couldn’t cut even with a steak knife. The buffet was set up crazy - for instance hot dogs, hamburgers in one area and the buns in another area. Kids running in and out of the lines, felt like they would knock us over. The ship was supposed to be non smoking except in the cigar lounge and one side of the pool deck. Even the casino was supposed to be completely non smoking but we found it to be half and half smoking and non smoking. No one is supposed to smoke in their cabin or on their balcony but we observed people smoking cigarettes and cigars - one person observed throwing a cigar butt into the sea which is prohibited. Tried to report it at the reception area and was rudely told he was closing - go tell some else. Told our cabin steward and he said he reported it to the authorities however the smokers continued to use their balconies to smoke throughout the cruise. We didn’t participate in shore excursions as we have been to all the same ports on other occasions. The entertainment in the theater was mostly musicals and operas. No variety. We visited the Le Serine bar several times and once there were children sitting on all the bar stools. Bartender said he couldn’t do anything about it. The bosses should handle it but no one did. Disembarkation was fairly simple as we have Global Entry. We were very happy to get off the Divina, go to our hotel and get some sleep. Read Less

I'm usually a easy person to please , I read the reviews and read the positive and negative reviews before embarkation on the cruise . When we boarded the ship I was jumped to get a drink package , mind you we already purchased " Drinks on us package " by the way they tip 15% on every drink that you buy . At dinner I ordered a New York steak medium temperature they delivered a well done steak with one grilled tomato and french fries " WOW" . When I asked them they told me that they are working on it , whatever that means. When I ordered a drink the first one came 15 minutes the other came 45 minutes after that . At the bar they ran out of Coca Cola and celery for bloody mary , and it took some time to order the drinks at the bar because it was packed and they don't deliver drinks to the table first couple of days . The Ports of call were Aruba that was excellent at the palm beach , however we only stayed there till 1:30pm , then Jamaica that was good to at Bombay Beach at Oche Rios , and Cartagena Columbia that was horrible but not as bad as Colon Panama it was they brought us to a hood , even a hood was better then that. But on the positive side was that we met lots of people from Europe and that was intresting other then that don't waste your money , they have lots of learning to do. Read Less
