Embarkation was smooth and we were on board in no time. Cabins were all available by 1.30pm. I would have preferred to wait a little longer to gain access to the cabin if it gave the staff more time to carry out their work. The staff work extremely hard and do not have the time to clean each room thoroughly. The grill at the bottom of the fridge was caked with dust, there were finger prints all over the doors and walls. We complained and 2 members of staff came to clean the cabin but only dealt with what we quickly mentioned to them - it never occurred to them to check anything else - The mirrors you could write your name in the dust but as I had not mentioned it to them they did not clean them. Dining. - The dining staff work extremely hard to satisfy their clients unfortunately I had to skip the evening meal on several occasions due to being sick or having an upset tummy. I was not the only one to complain about being unwell and believe that this is due to other passengers not practising good hygiene. There are no staff members insisting that hands are cleansed with gel before entering the buffet area. This was something we mentioned to staff on more than one occasion. People that do not cleanse their hands properly may not touch the food but they touch the utensils and then the next person contaminates their own hands when using these utensils. On speaking with a receptionist she confirmed that they had a lot of new staff as the Seaside had taken quite a lot of their trained staff. This was not my first MSC cruise and the lack of trained staff showed. Until this cruise I loved the MSC culture you would constantly see staff cleaning in the public areas - the lifts were polished constantly to remove finger prints and there was always someone around the toilets. On the Divina this was not the case - Finger prints were everywhere and I never once saw anyone attend to the toilets. I reported that on deck 7 there had been no hand wash in the ladies toilet on the 1st night - they remained empty until day 4 of the cruise. You cannot blame the staff for this - everyone you came into contact with was always extremely pleasant and would always try and please - I blame the MSC management for not having enough staff and therefore putting money before the needs of their clients. Due to this I can no longer feel happy to recommend MSC to my fiends and family and shall be cancelling my cruise that I have booked for next May even though I shall loose by deposit. Come on MSC Divina - Please get things back on track. Read Less

This was our 5th MSC cruise the 4th on the Divina. We had a military rate for this cruise which was too hard to pass up! The Divina is a beautiful ship, the Swarovski stairs are amazing! Was looking forward to the ship being decorated for the holidays, but there were no decorations until the 4th day of the cruise. We had a balcony stateroom which was a typical balcony room, although we did have a tub/shower combination, which was rather nice. There was some mold around the tub under the caulk. Dining was hectic! The servers seemed hurried more than usual. The food was lackluster and not as "special " as our previous cruises on msc. Room service doesn't start until 7:30 unless you pay a fee. So no early morning coffee on the balcony. Where msc shines is the entertainment. The performers are top rate and the shows are spectacular! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to see the various ports. Firstly, the negatives: The hurricane over the summer forced the line to cancel and alter some ports (not the fault of the line and certainly understandable). We also knew that, based on the price, the experience (food-wise) might not be the best. Well the food was terrible. The waiters make you order your appetizer, main course, and dessert all at the same time. This was a little weird but we learned to accept this policy. But the food that was delivered, although sometimes adequate, was usually terrible. One night, someone at our table ordered scallops and what came out was over cooked tiny pieces of scallop (advertised as bay scallops) which were overcooked and the size of baby peas. Another regular dish on the menu consisted of roll-ups of pressed chicken which was inedible. We did not try the specialty restaurants so can't comment on them. Our room was adequate but no animals left for us (as they were for some others at our table). The food at the buffet was not that good. To sum up the buffet experience, if you like eating large amounts of average food (like at Golden Corral), you will like the buffet. A lot of adequate food. The buffet was crowded but you could find a table if needed, you just had to search at popular times. The chairs were usually unavailable at the pools. But we went to the top deck where you can pay a small fee and have a quiet area to yourselves (well worth the cost). The ship was hosting (for a couple of days) a film crew (including Noah Wiley from ER) which was cool. But one day, they shut down one of my favorite pool areas just for the movie crew and that was annoying (we all paid for the cruise). Lastly, our balcony was partially blocked to one side which, although minor, was annoying (and a surprise). Lastly, the design of this ship makes it so the lifeboats block the views from most windows in the sitting areas and bars. Now for the positives: The pizza was decent. The coffees and drinks were great. I had the cappuccino every day and on one occasion, the waitress used chocolate and wrote my name in the drink. That was a nice, personal touch and the coffee was great. The ship is beautiful and very clean. The entertainment was pretty good. The various stops were enjoyable (especially Nassau where we went to Senor Frogs and walked to a local beach to have a swim). Having conch salad, made fresh at your table at Senor Frogs (along with great drinks) while gazing out at the ships and beautiful water, was very enjoyable. Embarkation was very smooth as was disembarkation. In sum, this cruise would have been much more enjoyable if the food had been good. But it was not a very expensive cruise and, as the title says, "you get what you pay for." Read Less

Our butler was Manoj and he was a great person, plus we had 2 favorite bartenders in the Garden Cafe, make sure you look for them, one is Raj and the other is Rey (Reymond), they will be good to you. If you are sailing on the Divina, the best option is the Yacht Club, you don't have to deal with the rude people in the buffet line or the elevator for that matter, with the Yacht Club you can use your card on the elevator to bypass decks to get from point A to point B. The room itself was nice, however for 4 people, I would not advise it, there is a sleeper sofa that needs to be removed and replaced, there is no way that 2 adults could comfortably sleep on it. But we had teenagers and the YC manager was kind enough to bring a mattress in and put it on the floor for one of them to sleep on and the other slept on the couch. The food was amazing the YC dining room. The buffet food was good but the passengers were horrible, alot of cutting in lines or running you over or just plain rudeness. Read Less

The things we did not like are how rude the other passengers where from Europe not all of them but a good amount, for example the last day of owe cruise we got on a elevator to go to breakfast. then another couple got on and then a lady with a stroller got on, the second couple bum rush the lady with the stroller as well as my husband and I. Needless to say i will not be cruising with MSC again. The shows where very bad no full story to them just bits and pieces me and my husband always half when it was 1/2 way threw. debarkation was even worse with the aurea package you get priority debarkation i was so mad when i saw the line the went from the front to the back of the ship, I was told i had priority debarkation and paid for that! Our first time on Divina was amazing. So much, we decided to repeat, which we have never done before, we like to try different ships. This time we convinced my In-Laws to come with us as we spoke so highly of Divina. Well, little over a year did a lot of difference. This time (I assume) they changed the chef and the worst was the food in the dining room. How they can ruin Italian food is a mystery to me. Buffet was better, but limited in evenings as most people do go to the restaurant. But better food than the restaurant, no doubt. I love the ship as such, it is a beautiful ship, from lobby to sitting areas to cabins it is very nice and an enjoyment to be on. Passengers are mostly from out of US at least during summer, November had more US then July. Is more upscale than other lines with the same price. Shows were really good, entertainment in general good. I love the bowling and 4 D Theater as well as racing the car. There is one slide (water is really cold, so I didn't use it but kids really enjoy it). I travel with kids 8 then 9 years old and both really liked the club, although they spent a lot of time in the sports court or around the ship with other kids. No complaint about the crew neither, all very nice. Restaurant server was amazing. Everybody very polite. First time we took the Fantastica experience, second time the Bella. I wouldn't take Bella again, Fantastica gives you more for little price difference. Now they also include some drinks coupons with Fantastica. In general I would say that if they change the chef in the restaurant I would repeat (sorry, yes I enjoy food a lot). We are taking the Seaside in March, let's see how that goes. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the BOGO value and we were then upgraded. Also wanted to give this line a try. Here is my overall review. I've been on 10 cruises on almost all the lines so I have experiences to compare to: Embarkation & Disembarkation - A breeze (lots of people commenting) the only negative was misinformation for US citizens at disembarkation, cruise director told everyone they only needed to show drivers license to get off. INCORRECT. ROOM: Bigger was not better. Do not stay in 13193. Although our room size was very comfortable it had several negatives. First, to high up, lots of motion, had to take a bonine first time ever on a cruise ship. Next, being under the buffet was horrible, noise, chairs, carts rolling as late as midnight and as early as 4am every day. The furniture in the room was somewhat gross. Coffee table, rusted, pitted and dusty, bottom of fridge was full of dust (have pics) ceiling light fixtures, rusted & pitted, carpet needed to be replaced or shampooed, walls all scuffed and couch was stained and sticky!! Mattress needs some kind of mattress protector or double sheeting. Balcony huge but no lounge chair and hadn't been swept, black hair everywhere. bathroom floor needs to be bleached. Disappointing, after asking the question, we were not entitled to the Wellness package. Didn't make sense to me, we paid an additional fee, they said we were upgraded to the wellness class, but not the package. SHIP COMMON AREAS: This being my 10th cruise, I can honestly say, with the possible exception of a RC ship, this had to be the most elegant, well kept and beautifully designed I'd ever seen. We visited all the lounges and were never disappointed. Staff was always friendly and relatively correct with info, but not always. Plenty of pool space, and like all ships, early up gets the best lounge chairs. Plenty of Jacuzzis. Visited the spa, but didn't do any services, but looked nice. they didn't do as many discounts as other ships, especially at sea days. The biggest negative for me personally, was not enough FUN stuff to do. You had your bingo, a few games like newlyweds, etc. I spoke to several people that agreed, the week became predictable as did the evening shows. The theater shows were wonderful, but by Thursday predictable. It always included the three acrobats, the scarf acrobat and the balancing guy. They could do away with the Michael Jackson show! Wasn't impressed with the cruise director. Only had hand sanitizers at restaurants & a few bars. NO Good, need them at stairwells BUFFETT: I really don't understand what all the "food" complaints are. We loved it. If I had to comment on anything, some steak meals were a little chewy. All meals had more than enough choices. Our two complaints about the buffett which I didn't hesitate to express were this: The buffet opens at 6 am, I'm up, went to gym, got to breakfast at 6:45 asked for an omelet, Sorry we don't make omelets until 7:30, then one person said 7. So people who get up early cant have an omelet? They then started precisely at 7. Still dumb. Then at dinner, which starts at 6:00, we fill up our plates and then at 6:30ish we see other stuff on peoples plates to find out that they put out a whole other section at 6:30. Why not put it all out at once. I asked one evening at 9:15ish, if they ever have any cookies, (I don't eat all those dairy made desserts) The young girl said yes we have chocolate chip tonight. I asked where they were, she said we put them out at 9:30. Now it's 9:20ish, I asked her for just one cookie and I'd wrap it in a napkin, she would not give up the darn cookie until exactly 9:30. So frustrating. Other ships would have been happy to accommodate. To rigid MAIN DINING ROOM: We went once and once was enough. Firstly, a table for two not a good idea. You're the lost and forgotten. We had a waiter who had one helper. at one point he had 20 people and all it took was one difficult table. He kept asking us to wait, every course he brought us some one else's food. He was running around like a chicken without a head. Then he brought dessert, David had to ask for coffee which came about 15 minutes later as we were heading to buffet for coffee. The food that night was fine and plentiful. However, we would check the menu every day and like everything else by mid-week it became somewhat predictable and never anything we wanted to sit through for. We also heard from several people, that the upper level got served first and their portions were better and consistent. Cant comment other than heard that several times. PORTS: Antigua was a very nice port. We went to the beach and had a nice day. (Just took a cab with a few other people. $32 roundtrip total as opposed to the $49 each the ship wanted. OMG WHY St. Thomas. MSC clearly doesn't understand what Hurricane devastated meant. We have friends who fled that island and told us don't get off the ship. Terrible. People were complaining. Nothing there. 2 weeks prior they said MSC was the only ship there and the shops weren't even opened. Little more than 1/2 open when we got there (& 2 other ships) but not much to offer other than beaches. We walked to the damaged Yacht club, no ships, harbor empty, docks empty. Took a pic of the ship and walked back. I just don't understand with all the other islands, why ?? Poor choice. They couldn't even offer any diving excursions, NO boats. Bahamas has definitely stepped up its game. May even take a 3-4 day vacation there. So overall, would I try MSC again? Maybe, when they bring their new ship over and offer a BOGO again, we'll give it a try. If no special offering, I'll go back to Royal Caribbean. Thank you. Read Less

We are avid cruisers and have attained loyalty status in a couple of cruise lines. Seeing that MSC has a loyalty match program that would give us Black Card status, we decided to give them a try. Embarkation was smooth as it was past our designated time when we arrived. However, our luggage took until 5:30 pm to be delivered which caused us to rush to make our 6 pm first sitting for dinner. The muster drill before sailing was very disorganized. There was no announcement whatsoever about the alarms and the procedure until everyone was gathered at the muster stations. There was no one to scan our ship card at the entrance to the muster station and we had to find someone to do it. The ship itself is full of bling and yet very busy to the eye. Our balcony cabin was beautiful and the bathroom is the best designed in our experience, mainly due to the flexible doors in the shower enclosure. Our cabin steward Jovi was exceptional. Dining wise, while the food was good and there was a variety, the buffet was always very crowded with all tables taken. In the dining room for dinner, we were not given an option of how big a table we would like to sit at but were assigned to a table of 10 with no option to change. While we appreciated the opportunity to dine with interesting people, dinner always took a long time. Service, likewise, at the Eataly Steak House and the Galaxy Restaurant was very slow, and the decor is not upscale although the food was very good. We ate breakfast in the dining room a few times but it was always crowded and service was slow. Sometimes ordered items did not arrive until we had finished breakfast. They seem to run out of essential items like milk or cream often. The evening shows on the ship are exceptional and the theatre is huge with no columns to block your view of the stage. The cruise director's staff also do a good job of mingling with the passengers while waiting for the shows to start. We found that the biggest activity venue (the Black and White Lounge) was often used for kids club activities until 8 or 9 pm and quite often the published activities according to the ship's daily program were not held. This happened about 3 times in a one week cruise. If you hope to do any ballroom dancing, you are out of luck since all of the tile dance floors on the ship have a sticky finish to them (probably to minimize the danger of falling). Smoking was allowed in the casino and the smoke floated to the open lounge above. We did not find any useful information about the ports we were to visit, as the talks only consisted of pointing the way to Diamonds International and other ship approved merchants in port. Disembarkation was also disorganized. We did a self walk-off and were provided with printed instructions to walk off from Deck 7. However, when we arrived there, we were directed to Deck 6 instead, which wasted our time as we had to meet our shuttle for an early flight in Fort Lauderdale. All in all, although the ship is beautiful and the crew try hard to be hospitable, there are many kinks to be worked out. We did not book another cruise. Read Less

At the end of Hurricane season, my partner and I decided we wanted a cruise - and MSC offered a compelling option - so we took it! We were automatically upgraded to a balcony room on Deck 13 - more of a balconette, I might add. The cabin was comfy, the balcony pretty much useless (except to let in sea air), but the cabin steward was always a bit slow - our room wasn't ready on Day 1 until after 4pm, nor were we given pool towels in the room (exchanges only are made on the pool deck). Our friends on Deck 5 didn't get a balcony, but their room was noticeably bigger and more comfy. The cabin steward was a bit slow to clean every day - sometimes nothing was touched until mid-afternoon. This I thought a bit odd. The ship? One word - BIG and gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful artwork as well - the crystal-infused atrium stairways were spectacular. Dining - we had first seating dining in the Black Crab - a beautiful dining room. However, be aware that you are NOT on an American cruise ship- it's Italian, and you'll never forget that as your dinner takes a leisurely two hours most nights. Portions are Euro-sized as well (not a problem for me) - so be aware that you won't be taking in 4,000 calorie dinners by default - you'll need to order multiple entrees to reach that level of wretched excess. Specialty dining- 3 versions of Eataly were on board - we went to the Eataly Steakhouse, expecting fantastico service. Nope. Very slow. Haphazard. The wait staff forgot requests regularly. We all agreed it was a total waste of money as well. Coffee and water packages presented an interesting mix of modernity and bureaucracy. I thought I'd get the water delivered en masse to the room on Day 1 - it was a hope. Nope. The room steward delivered two little booklets of paper coupons for the water and coffee - we had to sign for these. Instead of being loaded on my cruise card, I had to give my cruise card and paper coupon to the various locales on the ship to get coffee or water bottles. Odd. Entertainment - was quite nicely done, though I do think they overused the YMCA song (!). You'll enjoy it. Just don't expect much narrative - just sit back and enjoy in the beautiful Pantheon theatre! Activities - a nice mix well-suited to all ages. The only issue I had was that though the gym was free, access to the changing room and sauna was restricted to an extra-fee charge. Once on board, you immediately need to set up a credit card against your cruise card. Why they don't let you do this online or at check-in is another very odd Italian quirk. The crew was quite friendly - most announcements were done in six languages (!). One issue of note was that room stewards and wait staff were mostly of people from the Philippines - but all entertainment and management was composed of Europeans. Why, oh progressive Europeans, are not your Filipino team members not worthy of higher roles? I use the phrase "progressive" loosely. It was pretty obvious that your role was dependent on your ethnicity. Very disconcerting in this day and age. I expect better, as equality must be lived to be appreciated. MSC doesn't get this, and it was noticeable. Ports - we were rerouted due to earlier season Hurricane activity. However, our stops in Costa Maya, Cayman Islands, Montego Bay Jamaica and Nassau were lovely and nicely planned - kudos! Internet - they really limit you here. Be aware that 800mB total for the Surfer pkg will go quickly if you are not very, very careful. Finally- the disembarkation process began just before 7am Saturday and was very VERY well done. Good going, Team MSC! Would we go again? Now that I understand the Euro-lack of service (speed), maybe I would go. But my travel colleagues vastly prefer American service levels. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I am of Italian heritage and the online ads caught my interest. The ship is beautiful, the cabins are also quite nice, and the service was great. However, since I am first of all American born and the ship sails from an American Harbor, I don't think enough attention was given to those passengers who are also American. All the announcements were translated into several languages which became tedious;, but even the English speaking announcers had such a heavy accent that you couldn't understand them. The daily newsletter was quite confusing as far as activities. I was denied entry into the dining room for lunch one day because i wore a one piece bathing suit, which was covered adequately with a cover up garment, because they had rules about decorum. But the outrageous public sexual behavior on Deck 14 by a large group of "bears" was never admonished. This was on the smoking deck, and unfortunately my travel partner is a smoker. Also what I missed was seeing a show which incorporated a Comedian. This could have been accomplished in one of the many nightclubs and could have been geared to those who understand English. For those reasons I will probably stick with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity, etc. next time. Read Less

My significant other and I went on the Divina last week for 7 days with a large group. I have been cruising for years and have been on many different lines as has he. The ship is beautiful inside and our cabin was an aft balcony stateroom - the balcony was at least double the size of the regular balcony cabins - and the room was a very decent and comfortable size. - no complaints about that - the shows were great and the dancers, singers and acrobats were wonderful - some of the best performances I have seen. Piano Bar smelled from smoke from the Casino - many of us could not stay in the casino due to how smokey it was - it was awful. That being said, the service and the food need improvement. The cabin steward was just ok for the first part of the trip - he got better as time went on - the diningroom staff needed more help as the waiters did not have busboys the first few days and it took forever to get dinner served - it took so long that most people at first seating missed the first show which was the only one that night - it took over 2 hours for dinner. The last couple of days it was a bit better but still took forever. The food was hit and miss - overcooked often, under seasoned, and not hot when it should have been. The buffet had an ok selection but food was often cold - do not go on this ship for the food - no lobster either - shrimp cocktail has an up charge - The non-Americans were treated better than the Americans - they need to work on this if they want to keep sailing from Miami - this was a big problem - Might consider going again but not soon - going back to RCL instead - they know how to treat you Read Less

We booked this cruise because the pricing for a family with children is amazing and hard to beat. While I would rate most of the service as below average, most all of the workers really do cater to the children. They would stop and talk to us, ask about the children, try to make them smile or laugh, bring them treats from the buffet, etc. This was our oldest son's 6th cruise, but the first one he was old enough to go to the kids' club so I really don't have much to compare that to. He was in Mini Club which is for ages 3-6 so he was one of the youngest in his club. He really enjoyed going to Mini Club. They even allow children to be dropped off in club while parents go ashore on port days. However, their policy is that they cannot help children in the bathroom. Potty-ing without any assistance is a skill that usually doesn't come as early as 3 years old. So we did not take him to kids club for long stays. The main problem is they do not provide any method to contact parents if there are any issues except for calling the cabin (umm, parents don't typically take the kids to kids club so they can stay in the cabin all day). An area for improvement would be to provide beepers to parents in case they are needed. The ship is beautiful! Just absolutely lovely! But the Black Crab dining room is VERY tight. Our table for 6 was back in a corner alcove and tough to get to between all the chairs, let alone with a stroller for our 6 month old. Also, being in a corner alcove did not allow the space for the servers to get around the table for proper service. So there was a lot of passing plates, silverware, etc over people. Not the type of formal dining service to be expected in the main dining room. We cruised on the Divina a year and a half ago and most of the shows (if not all) are the same as they were then. So we only went to one show. Witches of Paris. I felt the caliber of talent is higher than on most other cruises. My husband did not like the show because it really didn't have much to do with witches or Paris. Yes, there were some French songs. Yes, a few of the dancers were dressed as witches during the first song. It was basically a variety show. There was singing, dancing, acrobatics, tumbling-style comedy. We didn't like that the 3 tumbling guys would keep coming to the front of the stage trying to get the audience to clap louder. All in all, I felt entertained and was glad we went to the show, but wish they would switch up the shows so that repeat travelers would have something new to see. Most of the food is blah. Not too great. The pizza is good. (Although the mini pizzas in the dining room off of the children's menu was not very good at all) The smoked salmon in the dining room for breakfast is very good. The bacon was horrible - seriously tasted spoiled. After the second day we stopped ordering any bacon (how can you mess up bacon??? it's bacon! bacon is always good, right? no! it was awful!). Steaks ranged from poor to mediocre. The beef wellington was good. Lobster is for additional charge. Escargot was good. The desserts that we had were very good. We had an interior cabin. While it was definitely tight quarters, I was very pleased with the amount of storage space. Traveling with a 6 month old and a 3 year old we had a lot of stuff with us but were able find sufficient storage space for everything. We even had an unused shelf or two after completely unpacking. We were 10th floor pretty far forward and our cabin was pretty quiet (except for our 2 noisy children). My parents had also booked an interior cabin but were upgraded to a balcony cabin near the aft. Their cabin was definitely larger than ours (theirs had a couch - we only had a chair) but they had one less section to their closet than we did so they actually had less storage space. They were on the 13th floor below the buffet and could hear a lot of chair movement noise from above. This is a big ship! I felt like we spent so much time walking back and forth. Also, big ship means lots of other passengers. MSC being an Italian cruise line has a wide variety of nationalities represented in the passengers. A lot of European cruise passengers. A lot of rude passengers! Passengers who when you've been waiting for an elevator (because it's not so easy to take the stairs when you have a stroller) just walk up when the elevator opens and barge into the elevator ahead of you because they can get on faster than one can when pushing a stroller. Passengers who when you've stood in line at customer service and it's your turn and you are in the middle of asking the question and they just walk up and butt in and ask a question. Passengers who step right in front of you at the buffet. Ugh, I think the worst thing about this cruise was the other passengers. Embarkation was very smooth. As I mentioned, there are a lot of other passengers so we had a long line, but it moved relatively quickly and the process was easy. However, they do not have a process for assigning your credit card to your shipboard account either during the online check-in process or during embarkation. They require that thousands of passengers go to little machines in the customer service area to swipe their credit cards for the onboard account. Why can't this process be part of check-in or embarkation like the other cruise lines do it? Debarkation was also very smooth & easy. Read Less

This was my sister and my very first cruise. two wks. Before our cruise, she got a msg stating that we got an upgrade. this was great!!! we went from the 'bella" pkg. To the 'fantastica' pkg. we were told we also had received 12 free drinks tickets each and two $25.00 vouchers! we assumed we got all these upgrades because we both bought the top drink pkg....$385 each...$770.00 total. other than that, we didn't know why. ok...so our cruise started on sat. 10/21. by sunday night, we had not received our vouchers or free drink tickets. we inquired. we were told they would check into it. As for the $25.00 vouchers, they came and went without us knowing. we were told that they were used for tips n gatuities...yet we were charged at the end of the cruise for the same. never saw the $12.00 free drink coupons. We were also told, due to our 'upgrade" that we could dine in the restaurants on the "upper level"??? yeah,...that never happened. went to a steak restaurant, checked with the greeter when we got there saying we had an upgrade. she looked at our badges/room keys and said "no, i'm sorry. you do not have access to this restaurant. here, you will have to pay". another misleading statement told to us by msc divina. I get a noticed to go to reception. i go. they tell me "we see you were upgraded to the "fantastica pkg". we're sorry to say that you "got the room but not the amenities that go along with it". i said " and what can be done about this" was told "unfortunately nothing....we're sorry". i said "ok...sir, it's not your fault but i will be contacting msc when i get home. Before writing this review, i read others. they said how they had the "fastica pkg" and the balcony on their room was not to their expectations. We had no balcony in our room, therefore we obviously did not have a "fantastica" cabin. another lie told to us by msc divina staff. Our husbands contacted msc and told them they wanted to be able to have all contact with us. facetime, text, phone call...etc. they were told $20.00. they paid. we got out to sea and had no contact except text. when we went to the reception desk they say "no, you have the wrong pkg". we paid for one thing and got another. i had to keep going back down to reception and inquiring. they told me they sent an e-mail and were checking into it. by thurs. We were able to facetime...but the connection died on my end. my husband could see me but i could not see him. as for our room, we had access to our mini bar due to our drink pkg. We got back to our room after an excursion and found the room had been cleaned but the bar empty. i called reception and they said that the mini bars weren't stocked till after 6pm. ok...strange but if that's their policy...so be it. we went out to dinner and came back around 8. went to get a beer and the bar was not stocked. had to call again! this is after my sister tipped this man!!!!! we were suppose to have clean beach towels in our room everyday. half the trip we found that we had to track down a cleaning persons cart to grab our towels. i used a washcloth each day. every night, that same wash cloth was still in the shower! there is a notice on the back of the toilets saying "do not throw any paper products in toilet. dispose of paper products in waste basket. $200.00 fine will be imposed on anyone caught violating this rule. ok...so we disposed paper products accordingly. our room boy took two days to empty our bathroom trash!!!! , As far as the excursions go....all were great except for the horseback ride to the myan ruins. the video shows riding past stairs to a pyramid of some sort...lol...yeah, no. we rode through the forest, saw some "replicas" of what was once the myan ruins. when asking questions to our guide about the different plants...got told "i dunno". when asked about the wildlife...type of birds," was told "mexican birds". he was very adimant about asking for tips though. saying "tourisim is what we survive on". Another problem with the restaurants...went to the "villa rossa". one that was on our "plan". ok. they start serving at 6. we got there at 7. tried to order a salad and was told "we came too late. they have 4000 people to serve". my sister said "then you should be prepared for 4000 people". we asked for "olive bread". we got "garlic bread". NOT HAPPY, The layout of the ship is obsurd. we were on deck 12. when we wanted to go to deck 5, we had to take the elevator to deck 6, get off an walk around the ship to the mid ship area to get to the stairs to take us down or an elevator to go one floor. very confusing and frustrating! On a good note?,,,,the food that we did eat was excellent! the staff was poiite. pool area nice. if you don't see a lounge chair, ask. one will be provided. entertainment was fantastic. Over all...i would not recommend msc divina. Read Less

My husband chose the cruise because there were pickleball pro giving strategies and playing with the pro. My husband is an avid pickleball player and loved the classes. The ship is very beautiful but hard to get around. The lounges are confusing to get to. We are so used to RcL and it so different. This ship doesn't enforce hand sanitizer. They have people handing out coupons for spa but should be enforcing hand washing. I always do it but 9 out of 10 don't and thus I got a cold. So my trip was hindered. Couldn't do all I wanted to do. As far as the food first day we had blackened grouper that was terrible. As the week went along food got better. The pizza great in buffet. The salmon and prime rib very good. The steak hit or miss. We went to Eataly steakhouse -specialty restaurant. Not worth the money. They gave you bread in a bag and not hot. I ordered a salad no dressing and asked about it and said to use oil and vinegar on the table. My husband got a cheese plate that was nice. We got surf and turf. The lobster tail 2 bites and steak overcooked at medium rare. I ordered ice cream and told them no whip cream. It came with whip cream. For specialty restaurant definitely not better than dining room. In fact the steak was better in dining room. We ate on acrylic chairs not very comfortable. On the positive side the production shows were very good. They had Michael Jackson and Queen excellent shows. Voices also a very good show as well as Mask. They seem to cater to foreigners rather than Americans. Read Less

We accompanied our friends on our first cruise ever and their first MSC cruise. We were impressed with the awesomeness of the ship, however we were let down by the food selection. We realize that this was an Italian themed ship, a little more variety of food selection would have made this an outstanding cruise. Too much concentration on Mediterranian and Italian cuisine was a let down. Perhaps introduction of Chinese, Oriental and American themes would have enhanced the menu to accommodate other than European passengers since there were many non-European members aboard as well. The Pizza menu was the best part of the buffet. The bar drinks lacked authentic mixes. The Margaritas were undrinkable due to the bitter taste. The Black Crab Resturant lacked variety of food. Another problem I incurred was the lack of conversion cables to convert 220V to 110V for my scooter. Only available three pronged 110V outlets were on the vanity in the room. There was ONE conversion cable on the ship and it was BROKEN! Better quality control of available accessories is an absolute requirement. A sundries kiosk would also provide items that may have been over-looked by passengers. Read Less

This was my tenth cruise, but first time cruising on an MSC ship. Highlights were definitely the pizza, the poolside activities, the pool with the retractable roof and some of the entertainment. The atrium is nicely decorated and there were several times that I thought someone would run into the mirrored walls (in several areas of the ship), since they were always so clean. The staff was also nice. I purchased the full streamer Wi-Fi package and was happy with the speed of internet service. The embarkation process was the fasted that I have ever experienced, but it would be nice to be able to set up your credit card when getting your room card, rather than having to go through a second step of setting it up once onboard on one of four or so machines. However, there is definitely room for improvement. The MSC Divina website states that there is an MSC Traveler App available, through which parties could stay in touch with each other while onboard and users would have access to the daily cruise information, ship maps and other useful tools. However, when me and others in my party tried to follow the link to download the app, we could not access it. Unfortunately, that meant that we did not have an easy way to stay in touch with each other while onboard. Also, we had an elderly person travelling with us who used a mobility scooter to get around, but there was no place to "park" the scooter upon debarkation at ports. Other ships that we have cruised on have allowed mobile scooters to be parked at the debarkation point and picked up there upon return to the ship. There are also quite a few places on the ship that have steps with no ramps, which limits mobility for anyone using a scooter or other mobility assistance. Used dishes on tables, especially around the pool areas, could have been cleared away quicker. The account review application on the TV should include a balance feature, rather than just being a running list of items purchased and any credits. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to timing and booked during Hurricane season after many, many quiet years in FL... obviously this was not the case this year so we were re-routed on our itinerary, which turned out to be fine. We also chose to try MSC in Sept because of the desire to NOT be surrounded by lots of kids, as there is usually some sort of kids sail free/cheap program on this line out of Miami that we wanted to avoid. Embarkation was fairly easy, and early walk off disembarkation was a BREEZE. That was spectacular. We had the mealtime drink package, but the wine was quite undrinkable (you can buy it wholesale for less than $3 a bottle) and were limited to Heinekin draft for the beer, but since the package was included with our fare it was ok. (We wanted to upgrade our package onboard was it was very cost prohibitive). The food was just ok, and I had hoped for far better, but as others have said the pizza is spectacular. It became our buffet fallback all week. Otherwise the buffet food was average and the buffet both difficult to navigate and crowded due to the lack of other food outlets. Entertainment was REALLY good. The Eastern European dance troupe (with acrobats and aerialists) was a step above and did a great job with their choreographed shows. Due to the very international nature of the guests, and multiple languages, there were no comedians. I agree with other posters that the ship itself is very clean, but the public restrooms were both difficult to find and not terribly clean. Our cabin was nice and cabin stewardess was quite darling. In short it was a good getaway, and a fairly good value (we paid in full at a much higher rate just before a terrific promo came through). Read Less

Been home a week now......Rested and objective....I am a fair person that evaluates things carefully. MSC was suggested to us by acquaintances.....after 9 other cruises on various lines we understood that MSC would be next level in our ongoing cruising experience. Pricing was great so we decided to spent our hard earned money here. We are blue collar retired people who live from week to week so every dime counts. After boarding the mandatory life perseverer instruction meeting bar was 97 degrees...no ventilation..elderly people were laying against walls...sad. They have a huge air conditioned theater which would have been perfect. They upsold us to a balcony for lack of an inside for three. The sofa bed was so BAD I slept on the floor the entire time. Housekeeping left much to be desired. The shows were repetitious but the cast was fabulous! Main dining needs work on menu and the food was average compared to previous cruises we had taken.Never received notification location for Cruise Critic Mixer....very disappointed. To be fair the ship is clean and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately we wont be back. Read Less

Divina ship was mega and she is quite a beauty with elegance. Unfortunately, I ran into serious of problems from the get- go all related to customer services. These problems all stem from our stateroom not being made all day. We returned to our cabin at approximately 6pm just to find out that our bed was not made and absolutely no fresh towels. Customer services were extremely poor and very rude bartenders, we were ignored trying to place our order and the gelato bar attendant had no clue about customer service…very, very rude! I reached my breaking point. I spoke to the front desk manager, bartender manager, and the housekeeping manager, and discussed all the problems I encounters and how frustrated I was. They promised they will resolve all the problems and in two days and thereafter the customer service improvement was absolutely amazing and I had plenty of fresh towels thereafter. I believe I can see myself returning to MSC again in the future. The manager of the ship sent me a bottle of red wine with an apology note and of course apology was accepted. And it was a very good wine. Thanks vey much. Another problem we the passenger encounter was the buffet at the lido dinning for two days they ran out of food, but that again was resolved and we had plenty of food thereafter. The main course was okay. Salad bar was good plenty of fresh veggies and fruits. Anti-pasta decent with 4-5 different cheeses. Homemade pizza every day very entertaining to watch and free 32 oz. bottled water anytime. Also, pasta station love it. On the positive note. The live show was the best production show I ever watched on a cruise ship. The shows were just over the top, amazing, beyond my expectations. It was just as good as Vegas shows. The singers, dancers, and the acrobats were simply the best and awesome. You will get blown away with their talents, costumes, and the production itself. I am a queen of cruiser and I’ve been to a lot of different cruise lines, and I have to admit MSC Divina has the best live production show. Kudos, MSC see you in the future. Read Less

We chose this cruise line for a couple of reasons. The first was the great promotion MSC had at the time and the second was to give our kids some exposure to people from Europe and Latin America. We booked two consecutive cruises, a Western Caribbean cruise followed by an Eastern Caribbean cruise. Due to unfortunate circumstances with the weather (i.e. hurricanes), the itinerary for the second week was completely changed to another Western Caribbean cruise. We spoke to Reception to enquire about the possibility of a refund and they demurred. While MSC were correct in stating that they have no control over the weather and that safety is a top priority, neither was it our fault for the weather. We paid for an Eastern Caribbean cruise and did not get one. MSC also informed us that there was a letter waiting for us but they would not show us the letter. We would only receive the letter by formally requesting a refund. At no time did they apologize or indicate that they understood our situation. On another note, we received a pre-cruise photo offer via email. We decided we would go aboard the ship before deciding. When we decided to accept the offer, we were told that we could not do so for that week. MSC were also not sure if the same offer would be available for our second cruise. Moreover, we would have to pay for an internet package to check our email without any assurance that the offer would be there. In effect, MSC had a customer on their ship willing to spend money and they offered up nothing but obstacles. My wife and I have been on over 20 cruises with 6 other cruise lines and I cannot imagine any of those other cruise lines treating its passengers in this fashion. These were our first two cruises with MSC and it's doubtful that we'll be returning. MSC's policies and practices about communicating with their passengers leaves a lot to be desired. And they certainly make it difficult to give them revenue for photos. Having said this I think people considering MSC should also know that their entertainment was top-notch. Our kids thought the singers were amongst the best they've ever seen. Hard to believe that two kids would willingly sit through 2 or 3 shows sung in languages other than English. MSC's stews and curries were great but we did not have one fish dish that wasn't fishy. We gave up trying fish dishes halfway through the first week. The lunch menu in the restaurant did not change at all which was disappointing. Getting to one of their dining rooms was a bit of an adventure the second week. We had to go to the stern on Deck 7 and then go down to Deck 6. That was the only possible route. Did somebody make a mistake during the Design phase of the ship? Did somebody realize after-the-fact that this was the only way to ensure the ship was properly balanced? We were informed that the menu and entertainment would change for our second week. This proved to be incorrect. Again, MSC did nothing to try to make us feel better. I was hoping for so much more. How disappointing that MSC did not meet the most basic of expectations, customer service and communications. Read Less

For my 30th cruise I chose to try MSC for the status match to see what they offered. PROS: Captain Marco was 5 stars, best captain ever! He kept us safe and informed throughout our cruise to stay away from Hurricane Irma and was very personable and visable throughout the entire cruise Entertainment was top notch, Las Vegas headliner type quality. excellent singers and dancers and performers. No comedians onboard due to the multi languages spoken by guest. Cleanliness Ship was very clean and well maintained, cabin was always very clean. Embarkation was very fast and smooth, basically was on the ship in a couple minutes.. Drink coupon books A very good value 18 drinks for $89 was a great buy Mealtime dining option included with our book and was very nice. Had wine, beer and water and soft drinks during meals. CONS: horrible WIFI super slow, even before it was opened to all guests, kept bumping us off, spinning dial for everythig, apps didnt work, so so slow!!! the Surfer package has a cap of 800MP which can be used up in a day. You cannot purchase unlimited wifi onboard, its not an option.. Buffet: never found a seat all week, tried various times and meals and it was super crowded and noisy and never found a place to sit... some of the food looked tasty but you'd have to eat it standing up outside, not enough tables and bad layout for trying to pass thru to get from one end to the other Bar service: no bar service for shows or by the pool unless you go find a bar and wait in line. I don't want to get up and go find a bar everytime I need a drink Pools: garden pool for adults looked nice but they have smoking back there, no thank you! Towels have to be taken from your room and to the pool and brought back to your room. the main pool is super crowded and lots of kids and its over 5 feet deep so you have to to hang on the edge there is a lifeguard to keep kids in line No shade and rarely any music or activities by the pool like on other ships.. Specialty Dining: EATALY Steakhouse awful atmosphere with plastic chairs, paper placements, bad service, had to find a water pitcher on the counter to refill my water glass myself, bread arrived inside a paper bag, bright lighting. Food subpar GALAXY Disco Restaurant, nice view, weird menu, not much selection. scallop appetizer had 2 scallops, small steak, not many options. MAIN DINING ROOM we ate most every meal breakfast lunch and dinner in the dining room. Something was always delivered prepared wrong, wrong item, salad without dressing, not as describled (antipasto salad had meat and cheese on the plate, no salad) ketchup packets instead of bottles looked tacky on the table. this was consistent with every meal...Dining service has a lot of work to catch up to other cruise lines CABIN 13146 I booked a Bella Balcony and MSC upgraded me to a Fantastica Balcony. The agent said it was a better location and cabin..The cabin had no place to sit, no sofa or chair.. Only a bed and small dressing table. Smallest balcony I have ever seen. It was kept very clean and tidy. Website: very bad, not user friendly at all. They need to upgrade the site. Read Less

The ship: Divina is nothing short of Beautiful and Elegantly designed. She is large weighing in just under 140,000 gross tons with 16 decks. She is spacious with plenty of places to to sit and relax. The balcony cabin I am in on deck 10 is well appointed, comfortable and spacious. Storage space is ample with 3 closets, one of which has draws and a digital safe, so there are no dressers or vanities with draw space except the desk which has 2 drawers. 1 is taken up by the hair dryer, the other is small. There are 2 small nightstands with 2 small drawers. The crew: This is hit and miss, and I believe this to be that the crew is used to a European market. Some, including my Cabin Steward, are very friendly, most others barely look directly at you and smile. The Captain has been amazing. He can be seen walking around the ship and will happily smile and greet you. He has been giving us daily updates on Hurricane Irma at 5pm in the theatre. The wait staff in the Villa Rosa Dining Room try very hard, but it appears more training in restaurant customer service is needed. The wait teams do not appear to have a good chemistry. The food: Food is a personal preference. This has been hit and miss. Dinner in the Galaxy Restaurant was excellent! Dinner in the dining room has ranged from just ok to mediocre. The buffet is quite large and with an abundant variety of food. If you can't find something to eat here, then there is something seriously wrong. Pizza is the best at sea of all the Mass Market cruise lines. The Entertainment: The live music onboard in various places has been very good. I have enjoyed the steel drums. They have been removed from other cruise lines and I appreciate hearing them played on Divina. The shows in the theatre have ranged from high school productions to NYC Broadway plays. The Cruise Director makes it a point in telling you that the shows do not have story lines, they are more for the visual effects. The combination of dancers, acrobats and music selection is a mixture that to me does not make any coherent sense. The Witches of Paris shows talent, but made no sense to me. Treasure Island had a bit of a story line about Pirates, but it's delivery fell short in production. The casino: Big overhaul needed here. Other than a handful of $1 machines, everything else is penny machines. The casino is tight and their point structure needs improvement. 1200 points gets you 30% off your next cruise. Then nothing until you have 10,000 points for a free cruise. $3 through the machine gets you 1 point. Other cruise lines are $2.50 per point. Hot seat promotion nightly at 10pm gets you $10 in free play. I've never seen a hot seat promotion with such a small dollar value. Overall, Divina is truly a beautiful ship. MSC still has alot to learn about the North American market. But remember, MSC is still in its infancy as a cruise line in comparison to Royal, Carnival, Princess and NCL. The Captain has told us, MSC is looking for travellers not tourists. They do not want to be like everyone else. This has been a quieter experience than I am used to. By 1am mostly everything is closed and the decks are quiet. I am glad I tried MSC and I think I will give them another try on Seaside to see if their ship built for the USA makes a difference. I booked this before I read the reviews and to be honest I most likely would not have booked it if I had read them first and that would have been a mistake. The cruise overall was not bad however we were booked in the Yacht Club, I do not think I would sail on this ship in a room below this category. There were four of us on this cruise myself (35), my mother (56), grandmother (76), and my daughter (17). We have cruised before from Disney to Holland American and a lot in between, so we understand cruises and that everything is not always going to be perfect luckily overall this cruise went pretty well. To make it simpler, I have divided this into sections room, YC, Entertainment, food/drink, etc.. Embarkment - This was a bit of a mess and not the best start to a cruise, we were dropped off at about 12:00 by uber to the white tent we were supposed to check in. The porter asked what deck we were on and I said 12 ( we had to rebook into a YC family suite when my mother decided to join us), the porter, said we were in the wrong line there is not YC on 12, so we would need to go check-in with the nation-YC. I knew I was in the YC and told the guy three times before I demanded he get someone from the YC tent area, at the time there was no one there apparently they were taking people to the waiting room. The guy finally got me someone who informed me that yes I was in the YC ( I knew this I paid for it) so I could check in with them he said to wait on the side, and someone would get us to take us up, we waited about 10-15 minutes for someone to get us and take us to the YC desk and lounge. The lounge is lovely, and we should know we had to wait over an hour before we could get on the ship. The printer was broken; apparently, they had to have our cards made on the ship and some other issues that only seemed to affect us as the other people all were taken to the boat. Come to find out they never printed our cards we were tired and hungry by this point this was not the best start to my trip we often travel in suites and have never had a wait issue like this one. The dining room was lackluster; the food was better than the main dining room from what I understand however coming from celebrities private restaurant I had higher expectations than I should have. It was not bad food it was decent however it was in need of some sprucing up; they did have a delicious gluten-free menu my mom had a lot of choices that changed daily's something that is not always done on ships. The desserts were not impressive creme brulee is my favorite dish, and I have never been on a cruise that did not offer it as a staple dessert this ship did not offer it at all I understand that they use to have it. The dining room is on the other side of the ship from the YC this needs to be changed I am not sure how but it is ridiculous. The lobster was excellent and free there is a charge int he main dining room. Food/Drink- We did not eat in any of the specialty restaurants the food in the YC dining room was fine, and I did not see the point. The buffet was a mess and only open at limited times and a madhouse. I always managed to go when it was ending, and they were taking food away. The food was nothing to write home about it was not as bad as many reviews make it out to be, it is a buffet there are lots of people, and the food sits, so it is not always going to be stellar. I was able to roll with it when I was able to get food. We did eat at the cafe and got coffee and pastries as well as candies. The YC allowed us to get our drinks all over the ship at no cost there was some confusion on what food was included at the cafe cupcakes, yes and sometimes candy depending. Sometimes we would get a few of the candies, and they were covered other times we would get them, and they would charge us, it was confusing they should include it all or not at all. I think with it being new that the YC could get drinks and such throughout the ship they are still working out the kinks it was not a big deal to us. Overall the food and drinks were good for us I think they need to improve a few things and make the buffet open longer. Entertainment- It was not bad, but it was not fantastic I usually love the shows on cruises, but I found myself feeling I would not miss much if I missed a show. The parties were under-attended like the white party, and often at night, there were few options that had people I am 35 and like to go out and about at night and meet people have a drink. There are not many choices on TV and unlike most cruises, the movie of the day they play outside is not also played on the TV. My daughter made friends and had fun in the teen club and hung out with a bunch of teenagers around the ship she enjoyed it but I think they did more in other areas of the ship than the club area. Excursions- Excursions were odd we would meet in the YC concierge area and stand around to be taken down to meeting spots in other areas of the ship to wait longer for another person to get the whole excursion group from the second waiting spot and take them off the ship. I think they need to change the way they do this it was confusing if we need to meet with the other people on the ship let us meet there I assumed that the YC staff took you off the ship to reach your excursion since we meet up in the YC I shouldn't have assumed. Our excursions were fine we did two PANORAMIC TOUR This was a cute little information tour of Georgetown CAYMAN BY LAND & SEA was fun we have done the stingrays before but it always fun. Extras: We bought the All Inclusive* Photo Package and took a lot of photos we split it, so it was worth the cost the photos were not as good as I have gotten on past cruises but they were not bad the price of $199.00 for 100 photos of our choice. We all got the social package for the cruise, and it was worth the 19.00 per person cost we use Facebook, and Instagram a lot, also it let us use iPhone messenger. We didn't use the spa this time around. We are traveling again with MSC I had already booked a trip to the Mediterranean before this cruise and had some holds on other ships as well; I want to see how they handle people with the new ships. I think I got a good vacation for my cost, I do wish there were some changes, and we did have issues at the start getting on the ship, but overall it was a good vacation and a good ship. The ship is large and lacks shopping options they need to add more shopping that is more diverse. Gratuities were I think 12.00per person per day I wish they were able to be prepaid like other ships. I used my debit card, and they gave me what was left in cash at the end of the cruise. Like I said at the start I would not sail on this ship if I did not have the YC, I heard a lot of complaining from people around the ship and feel I would not enjoy myself at all but since I did not sail in the other category I can not say for sure they are good or bad. MSC is less costly compared to most of the cruise lines we go on, and it shows, but it also is a good trip as long as you understand that you are paying low prices you cannot expect celebrity suite treatments. Its a budget cruise line and fits that nitch well they are going to charge you to death the lower your stateroom go but at $250-300.00 per person for seven-night inside stateroom what can you expect. You should take the bad reviews with a grain of salt the ship is not going to be perfect, but you can still make it fun. I do think they need to work on customer service I don't care how cheap a cruise is the customer needs to feel wanted I saw people inline for an hour or more to talk to a customer service desk person and one lady was almost crying. They need to update their website it is horrible and nearly made me cancel all my cruises trying to get things to work. Read Less
