Would not recommend the Sun Princess!, would not travel on this ship again!, it’s a floating rust bucket!. The ship is way too old to be in service, it may have been refurbished but there is rust everywhere and it is not a modern ship, it’s very dated. The crew even were hammering loudly the rust off the ship during the midday pool deck movie until passengers complained to get the crew to stop. I have never been on a ship where the crew did so much constant maintenance on a ship during the cruise. The toilets didn’t work and the ship smelt like the toilets had overflowed all the time!. It’s not a family friendly ship, if your are after water slides, there isn’t any. The ship needs to be scraped. The rooms are small, not enough laundries on board (for the number of passengers on board) and not enough washing machines or dryers for the numbers of passengers on board. Try to wash during port days (when most passengers are onshore on tours). The food was very poor. There was no variety in the food from the Horizen Court Buffett. Unless you like eating meat and three veg for lunch and dinner (it was like a cheap RSL meal), after 18 days of meat and three veg (I don’t want to see another plate of lumpy mash potato for at least the next 12 months!). Always the same dishes served, day after day after day!. The grill over the pool deck was hit and miss but this really only served pies, chips and burgers. The crew never cooked the vegetables enough, they were always hard. The buffet had a lot of creamy, sugary cakes. They had good cookies. $18 for a cocktail was a rip off!, get mocktails as part of the Soda package, if you want to save money. If you want a “behind the scenes” tour of the ship, that will cost you $175, free on other ships. The main restaurant was ok, but the portions are very small, if you are a big eater, a visit to the buffet after dinner in the Regency restaurant will be required unless you want to go to bed still hungry. Left the main restaurant after dinner hungry a number of times as the meal portions in the Regency restaurant are small. Not all the meals were that great at the restaurant (the pavlova was hard). Played bingo onboard but to buy the cards, it cost a lot of money, $30 for a card with 5 games and you paid extra to get the pet to cross out the numbers. The staff were friendly but their service was not impressive. There aren’t even any towel animals left on your bed each night. None of the staff onboard went the extra mile to make your time on the Sun Princess feel special. If your request was not within their narrow job description, they just directed you to someone else to possibly see if your request is even possible. If you have a specific request or enquiry, try to find someone who deals with your type of request if you want an answer (good luck with that!). The food and beverage staff service were very slow, with the exception of bar tenders on the pool deck. The only other impressive staff were in the Steakhouse restaurant, who fussed over you to make your experience in the Steakhouse restaurant special. The shows were ordinary. After 18 days the Princess dancers only did two really good shows (each show went for 30 minutes) but the princess theatre is small and the 7.30 pm show is the most popular (get the show at least 30 minutes before the show starts if you want a seat). There were a couple of other good performers but most shows were really bad and boring!. If your after the types of shows you’ll get on US cruise ships, you will be very disappointed, Australian cruise ships are the poor cousin to US ships when it comes to the shows. A lot of the performances had singers who constantly sang the same songs from the 50’s and 60’s (three seperate performances from 3 different singers all singing the same Beatles, Roy Orbison and elves songs was too much!) Princess really is a “nickel and dime” ship. They make you pay for everything. The Sanctuary is at the back of the ship, you pay $20 for 4 hours and there is no shade from the sun (it was really hot, I stayed for less than an hour) we were lucky there was hardly any kids onboard because unless you pay you have to rest in your cabin to get away from the crowds on sea days. If you wanted a lounge chair on the pool deck you had to reserve one super early otherwise you have to lay down in the sun. The ports were good and tours and transfers to and from the ship were ok. I recommend you give the Sun Princess a miss, it needs vast improvement in ship, food, service, amenities before you should consider this ship for a holiday! Read Less

Smokers smoke can be inhaled all over the top deck. The staff who were supposed to be policing the hand washing safety process on entrance to the buffet were mainly talking to their friends or other passengers therefore passengers who want to rush to the empty window tables at the beginning of the restaurant fail to wash their hands, circumventing the safety procedure. Newbies treated like second class citizens. Entertainment, what entertainment?.. Husband contracted influenza B, was confined to cabin for two days but previous days spent in cabin as not well, as we had purchased bev package requested credit, customer service person said he would check with medical centre, called me back to say medical centre had verified confinement so they would issue one days credit, but not for me as I was not officially confined to the cabin. Tender system disgusting, waited over three hours to be tendered off longer on the second tender process. Worst of all cabin! Steward did not remove used glasses, toilets continually blocking was told it’s our fault as only one piece of paper should be used at a time. If anyone gets allocated cabin A506 please change, the room is right next door to swimming pool equipment room, the noise in the cabin is very annoying, husband wears hearing aids so did not trouble him, but one piece of machinery (strongly suspect filter) continually droning, switched off at night at 11.30 but promptly on again at 5.30 I did complain and was offered ear plugs..... I did ask to be moved, request denied....dreaded being in cabin but when husband confined no alternative.... Won’t be choosing Princess line ever again.... Read Less

The Sun Princess is a disgusting piece of junk. It should have been retired years ago. When we first got on, the food was obviously made from the leftovers of the previous cruise, although it did improve as the days went by. Throughout the cruise, there was a sewer smell coming through the air conditioning, which you could not escape from for the entire cruise. It was disgusting. Other passengers I spoke to complained of their toilets overflowing onto the carpet in their rooms. Frequently the public toilets were out of order. The beds sagged. The ship was awfully rusty and obviously not maintained. I caught a mild tummy bug, an eye infection and an ear infection at different stages when onboard. Others had a bad flu. It was a New Zealand cruise and when we got back to Sydney, I heard fellow passengers saying, "What a relief to be home." The places we visited were lovely, but the ship was awful. Even though the staff were good, I'll never go Princess again. Come back new? How about Princess starts with its own ships. Read Less

We expected way better than this, having previously sailed on Voyager of the seas. Good staff and good food but the accolades stop here. Balcony stateroom was old and tired. Cupboard hinges broken. Balcony floor was so bad and uneven you couldn't walk on it without cutting your feet. Air conditioner was so noisy it made sleeping difficult. Could not be turned off and controller was hanging off the wall held only by a couple of wires. Toilet kept blocking up. It overflowed all over the bathroom twice. Plumber was called 6 times in 13 days and we were not the only cabin on this cruise with this issue. This made for a very uncomfortable cruise having to worry about when it would overflow next. Ship smelled of sewerage in certain areas. Ship painting was being carried out during the cruise meaning the stink of paint permeated the ship. The main cafe on deck 14 where almost everyone goes for breakfast and lunch smelled of mould. This is a health issue as is overflowing toilets. We will not sail on Princess cruise lines again. This is really like a one star motel. The speciality restaurants were very good:) Fly in my food in one of the dining rooms. Horizon's food is like slop. I gave up drining coffee as it was dreadful ,purchased many cups , all dreadful. The quality of the coffee beans- well, were they coffee beans??They ran out of wine, soft drinks and beer. Many mornings were were woken at 7am by the sound of a blast sander- not a way to spend your holiday.Wine whoit in dining always warm- even asking for cold wine- I had to put ice in the glass- not so geat when the wine was $9 a glass:( The cabins had not been updated since Captain Stubbing was on board. The hairdryer- not sure what century this was from. The TV not working on arrival- then again duting the cruise. Very slow internet that was exceptionally expensive- upgraded , no change.hard sell techniques used by Spa doctor- poor service by the head photogrpher. We purchased a go Pro- that was clearly faulty- they tried to get me to just apply under the warrenty when I returned to Australia. Princess seems to think that their rules are legally legitament. Most of the staff were pleasant though and tried to help us. I couldn't believe how many aged people were on board. There were quite a few wheel chairs and some small gophers. I don't mind old people as I work in an aged facility but there just were too many. I will never travel with Princess again. The ship was aged. It needs to be docked and revamped which I believe is going to happen. I had heard good things about Princess cruises but this ship was not one of the good ones. Never again Read Less

The prices on board were ridiculous; you had to pay for ice cream. The prices for port excursions were so expensive and did not do all the activities they were meant to and $15 for a bus into one of the town from the ship. There was hardly anything for disabled fun. The shows were good with the comedians. The staff shows were shocking. There were not any themed nights, and what there was we weren't told about before the cruise so we could take the appropriate clothing. The formal night was changed without word. A lot of the disabled toilets were out of order. I could go on! I will NEVER travel with Princess again! Read Less

This Cruise was a disaster. Booked flights thru Princess EZAir. Flight delays caused us to miss the ship departure. No assistance from Princess In-Route Assistance as promised. No reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs. The ship was a dilapidated rust bucket. Ship skipped or was significantly late arriving at 4 of 9 ports/destinations causing us to miss excursions. Spent port days at sea putting passengers at risk in storms rather than allowing passengers to disembark to see New Zealand by land and avoid bad weather at sea. Ship often smelled like sewage in indoor common areas. No reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs due to travel delays booked thru EZAir. Several departure and delays due to ship malfunctions. Clothes washers and dryers not functioning and in disrepair. Tender hoists malfunctioned. Enrichment activities came with sales pitches designed to enrich Princess. The Sanctuary area of the ship was never available for passenger use. Only positive comment is for the dining and room staff. All staff folks were pleasant and provided excellent service. Complaint filed with Princess fell on deaf ears. While Princess did acknowledge the problems with the cruise, they only offered minimal credit for future cruises. No more Princess for us! I would recommend Princess to NO ONE! Don't punish yourselves! Sun Princess is an old dilapidated ship - Not recommended! Read Less

Chose this cruise because of a 2 for 1 deal and I'm glad I didn't pay full price! It was my first cruise but I received no help or direction from staff during embarking the ship. We had to find our own way around. The ship was old and slow. Captain announcements dragged on for ages and interrupted conversations, relaxation and sleep. Cabins were ok if you didn't want to spend any time in them otherwise they were stuffy as air conditioning didn't seem to work. Dining was limited as seating wasn't great and service from kitchen was slow. Some wait staff were great but majority useless. Very little entertainment on board and activities were age appropriate so not suitable. Singles and solos get togethers were crammed with couples and families. Service was generally non-existent. Staff were bored and paid little attention to guests. Port time were too limiting and shore excursions overcrowded and time consuming. Read Less

I would think that Princess would take care of their customers a little better so they want to return. After a two week holiday in New Zealand for mum, dad and three children, I had planned to take mum and the kids on a short voyage back to Sydney on the Sun Princess. I have been on a few cruises but mum and the kids had never sailed on a cruise before. I thought that a four day voyage would give them a sample and perhaps if they liked it, we would be able to take a cruising holiday in the future. Unfortunately, as we were ascending the ramp in Auckland our noses were assaulted by an awful smell like that of sewage, such as that from a septic tank. I said that we should hurry up and get on the ship to escape it. But guess what; the smell was coming from the ship, not the ramp. Some parts of the ship were free of the smell. Our rooms were on Baja deck and my son and I were in a cabin which was only a short distance from my other half and my two daughters and our cabin was free of the smell. Unfortunately, the mini suite occupied by the girls was affected very strongly. My daughters disliked it but were not sick. The missus though, felt quite ill for most of the journey and threw up several times. She could not eat for most of the time so missed out on the delicious meals that the rest of us were able to enjoy. We complained to the sympathetic cabin steward who told us that many other people were also suffering from the stench and that the crew were attempting to fix the problem. He suggested that we leave the windows open, but it was too hot and humid for that. The promenade deck forward on the starboard side was also badly affected by smell and though also terrible, it was slightly different, although it still smelled like sewage. This made it unpleasant to use the deck to walk around for some excercise. Just about everything else about the voyage was good. For the first couple of days we dined in the Marquis restaurant, but we soon decided that the buffet was much better and didn't return to the restaurant. There was a greater variety of food to be had in the buffet and it was excellent. Also the smell was not evident in the buffet though it was in the dining room, though not to such an extent as in the mini suite. There was a very good variety of movies and entertainment both on the big screen or on the tv in the privacy of the cabins. The swimming pools were just the right temperature for us and were never crowded so we spent quite a bit of time in them. Everything was as good as it could be apart from the smell. Now it looks as if we will not be taking another cruise. The kids and I said that we would like to, but the missus does not want to risk that, and I would not put her through such an ordeal again so I guess that's the end of that. Read Less

A trip on memory lane did us decide to take a 4 weeks cruise on the Sun Princess, it was the first ship we ever cruised on in 2005 so we thought we new the ship. Now after almost 13 year it was not the same anymore. We fluw al the way from Holland to Sydney a long trip. We stayed two days in Sydney before the cruise, but the next morning we heard by coincedence, the ship would say a day later, never got any message from Princess, nothing, just from here say. So we had to book another night in a hotel. We sailed the next day, the cruise was around New Zealand, back to back Sydney. the first stop was cancelled because off the late departure from Sydney. We had a somewhat unfriendly steward, but yeah you cannot be everybodies friend. After the first 14 days we had to move to an other cabin, okay no problem. We had to go true trnsit to go back on the ship, two hours standing and waiting for the clearence to go back to the ship. The second cruise was the dream of my husband, the Fiji islands. From the 8 stops we saw three, the first two were beautyfull bounty islands lovely weather swimming in the bay. The third was Suva, that was a dirty ugly harbour the smell was awful. We stayed for an hour outside it was not a nice city. The next two stops were because of the weather not to approach with tenders so we did not see these islands. We just went by. After these islands more people began to feel sick, the flu was onboard, noro virus also. We both got the flue, got 5 days quarentine and had to see what to eat and drink from roomservice. That was not nice. A bill from the doctor off $800,00 was the result. Nice thank you. We had a week to recover becauce our trip was not over after 4 weeks, that did not work. This vacation was a special trip, my 65 birthday. I blame Princess Cruises for the sickness on board, in the 4 weeks we were on the ship I never saw anyone from housekeeping to clean the toilets floor with a mop. Not once. In de corners was a brown line smelt and it was indeed pis. The toilets were under maintanance or very smelly the ladie that clean the toilets wipe with a dry cloth the lid of the toilet flushed it and that was all. The toilets at the pool, It was a Nightmare. Pis everywere, at the last day we went out friends off ours stayed for another cruise, they were all asked to leave the ship and dont come back till 5:00 PM big cleaning maybe? It was a cruise never to forget but not because we enjoyed it. The ship is so dirty its a shame the asked the money they did. Read Less

They Buffett food was cold you couldn't even get a warm piece of toast.i paid the bill even then the atm wouldn't work and they argued with me and wouldn't believe it wouldn't work until another couple tried to use it no go so they came and told him but no apology so I gave him my card to take from and then he said they don't take that card N.A.B then another staff looked and said yes they do no apology again. Then they did get the virus so we couldn't even make acup of tea ourselves. We had to get them to serve us and still cold food in buffet. They then turned the aircon to freezing we were all complaining and were wearing jumpers some with coats on which we were all getting the sniffles it was so cold. It is a trip to remember and after being treated so bad I am deciding on ever going cruising again I would not recommend this cruise line to anybody go if you want to get sick and make sure you have plenty of money for doctors. We chose the Sun Princess for my wife's birthday weekend away. Never been on a weekend cruise before and after this experience probably wont again. Don't want to waste too much time on this as too much of our time has already been wasted on the Sun Princess. Excited passengers board the Sun Princess head to the closest bar to have a celebratory drink only to find most bars are closed and the only 2 bars open had queues with up to 45 minute waits for a drink. I thought this must be just a one-off but no it was a sign of more queues and more waiting for the remainder of the cruise with many disgruntled passengers wondering what they did to deserve this poor sub standard service. Most passengers stayed on the cruise rather than disembark at geographe bay.... poor decision as once gain most bars closed and massive waiting time in queues and of course there was always the amazing day activities to participate in while on the boat.... thats of course if you are into Bible Studies or needlepoint stiching !!!! My wife and I have just returned from a cruise aboard the Sun Princess from Fremantle to Sydney. We had previously been on the Dawn Princess to New Zealand and had a great cruise so were keen to use the Princess line again. Also we had not been anywhere along the west and northern sides of Australia so this seemed an ideal cruise for us. Things started badly when prior to leaving I received an email stating that due to problems with the ship we would not be calling into Yorkey's Knob (Cairns) and instead would be sailing direct from Darwin to Alotau. This would mean 4 days straight at sea. (About 108 hours in fact) We would receive $100 each onboard credit to compensate for this. This was pathetic as we had paid our money fully expecting to stick to the itinerary. The reason given sounded dodgy and there were rumours around the boat that the reason we did not stop at Yorkey's Knob was due to a financial dispute between the local Port Authority and Princess Cruises who would not pay the increased docking fees and thus boycotted the port. If this is true then the Cruise company should be prosecuted for fraud. After arriving at Geraldton on the first day we tried to have a shower in our cabin to find no hot water at all. After reporting this to our cabin steward we spent an enjoyable day in the town after having a cold shower. Back on the boat that afternoon we again had no hot water and again reported it to the cabin steward. . Next morning the same thing happened and I spoke to the customer services desk who said they would look into it. For the next 5 days the same thing happened until my wife put in an official complaint in writing. A plumber (?) was sent who told us to run the hot water in the hand basin for 5 minutes. All this did was drain any lukewarm water we had. We gave up complaining after this. We eventually discovered that if we had a shower in the afternoon then there was a chance that the hot water was lukewarm. Of the 17 days on board we had 2 hot showers, 5 lukewarm showers and 10 cold showers. I believe other passengers on our level also had problems. This is not good enough. On the fourth day I just happened to check my onboard statement to find that my wife's account had been booked for bottles of wine at the Marques Restaurant. We had not been to that restaurant and did not drink wine so I spoke to the Customer Services desk who found the relevant dockets. Another passenger whose card number was similar to ours had signed the dockets so I was told that the amount would be reversed for us and booked to the correct passenger. It was put down to human error by the waiters. Imagine my surprise to find the same thing had happened the next day and following 3 days. Again nothing was done until my wife put in a complaint in writing. Again not good enough. The disembarkation at Broome was a fiasco. We were lucky in that we got off the boat at around 12.00pm, a lot of other people got off after 3pm or simply gave up and didn't get off the boat. Surely somebody must have known that there were going to be problems due to the work being undertaken on the wharf and made some alternative arrangements. The day advertised as cruising the Kimberley's was somewhat underwhelming We saw some coastline for about 2 hours . For the entire cruise two elevators were out of action with a closed for maintenance sign on them. At other times other lifts were also not working. A lot of passengers were getting frustrated with this situation and those who could used the stairs With a predominately older group on board it was distressing to see elderly people struggling with the stairs when there should have been more lifts going. The entertainment on board was very hit or miss, some good, some fair and some awful. The violinist was brilliant. Activities were boring and seemed to be more centred around getting you to spend money like the Art Auctions, Photo shop, Lotus Spa, bingo etc Our cabin steward was excellent and always cheerful even when it was obvious we were not happy about the hot water situation. After the fiasco with our account we did not eat at the Marques Restaurant and dined at the Horizon Court except for one meal at the Sterling Steakhouse which was good. Unfortunately this was interrupted by a ships photographer wanting to take our picture.. At least he did not persist when I told him I wasn't interested. The food at the horizon was satisfactory but I believe not as good as on the Dawn Princess. The service was good overall. My wife had the misfortune to need to see the Ships doctor while on the boat. The attention she received was excellent but the cost of the consultation ($95) and antibiotics ($125) seemed over the top. We did not go on any of the ships organised excursions because of the exorbitant prices charged. Nearly $200 to transfer passengers to 3 locations by bus at Geraldton which we easily walked was a rip off.. We made our own arrangements on shore. Overall the cruise was a major disappointment. Having only 5 days on land and 12 at sea didn't help. The Sun Princess is clearly showing its age and should be scrapped. The organisation and management of the cruise was appalling. Not sure in hindsight why we chose this cruise. Excursions badly organised and exorbitant costs. Perhaps it was priced to avoid people wanting to do them Embaking and disembarkation was diorganised chaos. Change in itinerary and Princess not being honest about the reason why Ship needs to be melted down and rebuilt, definitely due for the scrapyard. Lifts not working, toilets not flushing, drink dispensers not working. Took 4 hours to get off the ship in Broome because of delays and maintenance being done at the so called wharf. Hardly worth getting off, as it was time to come back, once we got into Broome Not enough activities organised onboard for the days at Sea. Our cabin was standard, but the aircon unit was like having a jetplane taking off 24/7. Mentioned it to maintenance, but nothing could be done about it. Will never cruise with Princess again, in fact this cruise may even put me off cruising for Life. Read Less

I wanted to sail up the coast of Australia. A few days before departure we were advised that because the ship could not obtain max speed we would not get to Yorkey's knob. $100 pp was allocated to our on board account. This was a real letdown as we had planned to rent a car and explore the environs. In practice I could not cancel the trip because of this as I had already (separately) paid for airfares to Perth and from Brisbane. And so we went. Geraldton was via tender and all went well. Broome was an absolute fiasco. We were lucky and got off on bus 3, which left the ship 1 hour after bus 1. When we got back to the ship 2 buses were ahead of us being loaded. Being a working wharf we had to stay put; that is until it was found out that some fellow bus passengers were booked on a ship organized excursion. Then the rules changed (but only for these few) and the booked ship excursion travellers were allowed to leave the bus. At around 3p.m. some travellers had still not left the ship. The debacle was of course blamed on Broome's authorities. I do not accept that. Darwin went well. Then onto Alotau. The Excursion specialist, the day before said we had until 5 p.m. On the morning this was reduced to 3 p.m. This caused us problems as we had paid for some locals to show us around and this had to be cut short. No reason or apology was given. Brisbane. What a fiasco. It took us until nearly 11 a.m. to get off. We had friends waiting for us. They came based on much cruising experience and waited a good 2 hours for us to get off. This ship is dedicated to the Australian waters and yet I could get no news about Australia. There was an Australian channel but seems to specialise on cooking lamb etc. The only time I got Australian news it was 2 days old. I did however get Fox and BBC and learnt a lot about Donald Trump. There was no local rag with Australian news as I have experienced on other cruise ships. I doubt that I will ever cruise again (apart from Vancouver to Alaska.) I will never give my freewill to another cruise ship where they can change their minds at will and give us less that what was promised. On the bright side: The "Asian" crew were mostly very helpful and I am grateful to them I will never cruise with Princess again Read Less

Worst cruise ever. Ship was in a terrible condition. Two elevators out for entire cruise . Another out periodically during the cruise. Toilets didn't flush. Hot water in the cold taps. Three days to get shower to work. One engine out of action resulting in a missed port and spending 8 days at sea with only one port of call. This was too much for my wife who left the ship in Darwin and flew home leaving me to continue on my own which was supposed to be an anniversary celebration cruise. Compensation for the missed port was $100 pp which was an insult on a $12000 fare. Didn't even cover the cost of my wife's airfare. Not enough organised activities for all the sea days. Only 4 ports in 15 days. Embarkation and disembarkation was terrible with long queues. Food standards are down from previous Princess cruises and entertainment was only mediocre. The only good thing was the service from the wait staff and cabin steward. They were always smiling and helpful. Our worst cruise in over 20 cruises, and you can sure I won't be travelling with Princess again Read Less

Sun Princess cruise to the northern part of Australia was the most disappointing cruise we have ever had. GIVING YOU A $100 ON BOARD CREDIT IS AN INSULT. This on board credit would barely cost them $8, not to mention the saving on their fuel cost for traveling so slow, to miss a port in north Queensland which was the main reason we decided on this trip. We were cruising because my wife recently turned 50, it was her dream to go on a tropical cruise. We departed Singapore with Freemantle as the destination. Tuesday 19th April 2016, Everything was fine when we boarded the SUN PRINCESS around 1500hrs, we excitedly went straight to our cabins. As soon as we opened the cabin door we noticed how hot the room was. Our cabin had Non-operating air-conditioning, Non-operating toilet and no hot water. We went to the customer services desk on level 5 and notified them of the problems in our cabin. We assumed that these would be fixed quickly, so we left the room to explore the ship and attended the muster station drill. After departing Singapore several hours late, we returned to our room only to find that nothing had been fixed yet. The queue at the customer service desk was a mile long, so we left and waited in an air-conditioned lounge area. Every now and then we checked our room and it was still uninhabitable and the customer service desk queue was still growing. This situation was becoming more frustrating and stressful every minute. Later when we were getting ready for our evening meal I spoke to our room attendant as I was needing to use the toilet and he suggested I go up one level and use the public toilet above us. I found that toilet had an out of order sign on the door, I then went up to next level and they also had an out of order sign on the door. I returned to our room to inform the family that I had to go searching for a public toilet that worked. I eventually found a working toilet on level 5 adjacent to the restaurant, I was beside myself with sheer frustration. Again the customer service queue was so long that I couldn’t find out why everything was not functioning. After dinner we went to the customer service desk and joined the queue around 2300hrs, we were told the toilets would be fixed soon. In the lifts at the rear of the ship it was a common topic of conversation as many passengers on our floor were having the same problems as us. The family went to bed later that night with wet towels to try and keep cool enough and get some sleep, my head was pounding with frustration as nothing had been looked at or fixed yet, it was so hot and humid in our cabin and the essential basic facilities were not working still, so I paced the decks until I was exhausted, I did not see one maintenance person fixing any toilets, I only saw cleaners cleaning the public areas. In the meantime my wife went back down to the customer service desk after midnight to find out what was happening about the broken air-conditioning, and said that our fridge wasn't working either, even at this time of night it took over half an hour to speak to someone. The customer service person apologised to my wife and acknowledged that our situation was not good, she said she would log this complaint as urgent. While in the queue, my wife noticed quite a few couples with suitcases sitting in the lounge area as they had nowhere to sleep as all their cabins had been flooded. I later found out they were from deck 12. Wednesday 20th April 2016 At approximately 1100hrs a technician arrived to check our fridge, (he said the fridge was working ok, but because it was so hot in our room the fridge couldn’t cool the fresh water in it) while he was there we asked him about the air-conditioning, he removed the ceiling vent and inserted his arm and it sounded like he was turning something after a while he pulled his arm out and he said it’s fixed, he replaced the ceiling vent and left. We finally had cool air blowing into our room. Today was a full day at sea, and we still had a non-working toilet and a shower without hot water, and still most of the public toilets were out of order. Totally unsatisfactory. Later that day the corridor outside our cabin looked like a building site, in the corridor there were cabin beds up ended, lounge chairs, rolls of carpet, mattresses and blowing machines going flat out. Several cabins adjacent had toilets that had flooded their rooms and they needed drying out and they had their carpets replaced. I can’t believe a ship in this condition was allowed to leave Singapore. We noticed that many people on our floor were having problems, and we also heard that deck 12 passengers were having very serious problems too. We unfortunately spent the day listening to so many horror stories from fellow unhappy passengers. I went back to the customer service desk and joined the massive queue, eventually I was informed that most of section 7 was having difficulties and they were working on it. The customer service people had put up a sign saying that the ship was sailing full and therefore there was no free cabins available for people to move into. Our toilet is eventually fixed at around 1800hrs. It seemed that there were so many problems on this ship that the maintenance staff were overwhelmed and didn’t know what to fix next. Thursday 21st April 2016, Still no hot water in the shower, today we spent the day ashore and we returned to the ship late afternoon. After boarding we return to our cabin and used our toilet and to our horror the toilet won’t flush again, and the public toilets at our end of the ship were also still out of order. It’s absolutely appalling. We are so frustrated and disappointed that our exciting first cruise experience is quickly being crushed. I logged another complaint about the toilet fault, but for some reason it again wasn’t looked at and fixed until the following day. It appears to me that there is no maintenance staff available after 1700hrs. I spoke to the customer service desk again, I explained to her that my frustrations are not directed at her but she needs to know how I feel, so I expressed how unhappy I was being stuck on a ship in this condition, I told her that I expected a refund and that if this ship was a hotel, I would have already checked out and gone somewhere else, unfortunately being on a ship I cannot checkout. Friday 22nd April 2016, The toilet is fixed again this morning and its working finally but still no hot water Outside in the corridor we find that toilet water has overflowed and run down the corridor from two adjoining internal cabins. I noted that these carpets we just left to dry, they were not replaced like cabin carpets were. It is so disgusting, again I cannot believe a ship that has just spent two weeks in dry dock ( according to Princess they spent $30 million) has been allowed to leave port and sail with passengers in this condition. Just as well we could spend the day ashore. Saturday 23rd April 2016, Still no hot water. The toilet has stopped working again, this time it flushes but it won’t refill with water. Rather than queue forever at the customer service desk we report this to our room attendant. The public toilets on both decks above us are still out of order. It has gone beyond a joke, but passengers in the lift are talking about finding the captain’s cabin and making him sleep on deck 11. At least we could get off this ship again today and away from this horrible mess. Sunday 24th April 2016, Today is a sea day and for something different, rather than not working at all, Our toilet overflowed out onto the floor, faecal matter included. I quickly grabbed every towel available and blocked the toilet door so the mess wouldn’t flow onto the carpet in our cabin, I also used the swimming pool towels to soak up the mess and I went straight down to the customer service desk and reported it. Surprisingly to me, when I returned to the cabin, there was a staff member right behind me inquiring about the toilet overflow, he turned off the water, removed the dirty towels and cleaned up the mess in the bathroom. He placed further towels on the floor to soak anything else up. We were again without a toilet to use. What I didn’t find surprising anymore, was that it took another day for someone to come and fix the toilet and to turn the water back on. While searching the ship for a toilet that worked I came across two old gentlemen that were standing guard outside a working male toilet on a lower deck, their wives were in there as the female toilets were not working. Tuesday 26th April 2016, The roof in the corridor outside our cabin had been opened up, and pipes were exposed, our room attendant told us they were fixing our toilet again but this time the problem was in the roof area somewhere. From this point on the toilet worked whenever it felt like it, sometimes it did flush and other times it wouldn’t or it would start emptying itself during the night, I would be woken up by the suction noise only to find the toilet was empty and everyone was still in bed. Two other times our cabin toilet overflowed, once with my wife and once with a child in the room. Luckily the kids were watching TV and they could throw the towels everywhere to stop the cabin being flooded. The kids didn’t know what to do so they hung the filthy towels up in the balcony. I gave up trying to get help from the customer service desk as there was always an hour wait to speak to someone, our room attendant bore the brunt of our complaints and it seemed that he was forever in the back of the toilet trying to fix it. The public toilets above us were now working but the other public toilets were randomly locked as they each broke down and were subsequently repaired at a later time, usually 2 days later. Going to the toilet was like playing Russian roulette. At one stage one of our friends children had to go into a female public toilet adjacent to the restaurant as all the male toilets were again out of order, when he entered he slid over and was soaked because the whole public toilet area was flooded with toilet water. Apart from these essential facilities not working, we also still do not have hot water in our shower, It’s day 9 and we are arriving at Benoa. Day 10 and guess what, we finally get to have a hot shower, Finally our cabin seems to be getting habitable, just as the cruise is ending. The aforementioned covers the serious problems in our cabin, then there was the dirty carpet and the biscuit pieces under the lounge chair when we first boarded and entered our cabin, these remained for 3 days until I decided to dispose of the biscuit pieces myself, under the bed there were also pieces of metal shavings and rivets. my hand found these sharp pieces of metal when putting our luggage under the bed. Our friends in an adjacent cabin went through many of the same issues we did. The next cabin down from them travelled with extended a few families, they had carpet replaced due to toilets overflowing This next section is because after notifying Princess Cruises several months in advance that I have a food allergy, and cannot tolerate Gluten in my diet and that my wife is vegetarian, and after receiving a confirmation email from Princess Cruises regarding this, it appears that nothing was done regarding myself being a Gluten intolerant passenger and my wife being vegetarian. We were never told that being Celiac and therefore allergic to Gluten would be a problem onboard, in fact their reply email just indicated, "Please be advised your request for gluten-free meals is confirmed and the vessel will be made aware of your allergies/restrictions closer to the sail date. Please review the dietary information in the Cruise Personalizer. Once onboard, it is very important that you contact the Maitre d’ Hotel to discuss your special dietary needs and any special preparation of your meals". My first night at the restaurant I spoke to the Maître D as mentioned in my acknowledgement email from Princess, There was no Gluten free menu available, and he apologised, he said that he would arrange something for me tomorrow. He mentioned that there were about 100 Gluten free passengers on the ship. Tomorrow came and again there was again no Gluten free menu available. Out of a 12 night cruise I ended eating roast chicken (entree) for 10 nights and steak (main) for 10 nights There was never a choice in desserts. At the international café on deck 5 they would only have a selection of one gluten free pastry, once per day, either morning, lunch or afternoon, there was nothing available throughout the day to go with your tea or coffee. Many times I went to the International café and asked what items were Gluten free and I was told there was nothing Gluten free available in the cafe. At the Horizon food court, nothing was labelled Gluten free, every time I went there, I was made to ask for a Head Chef, I had to wait for him to arrive, and then I had to get him to go through everything for me, at times he didn’t even seem sure, this was very concerning. Meanwhile everyone else at the table ate, I found it extremely embarrassing and humiliating that I was made to go through this routine every day and if I asked for a slice of bread, I then had to wait outside the kitchen door for another 5-10 minutes for it to be brought out to me. I could not eat from the Amuleto Cafe, or The terrace Grill. I found that on the Sun Princess, my treatment as a passenger with dietary allergies quite appalling. I have been to Australian outback hotels like Silverton (near Broken hill) NSW and at Kadina SA, and I have been treated properly, they have complete separate gluten free menus available. I would have thought that a company like Princess Cruises, whose job it is to look after thousands and thousands of passengers every single day, would look after passengers with food allergies without making them feeling embarrassed or humiliated. Our exciting cruise ship experience has been completely ruined. We will never go on a cruise again after being on the Sun Princess. It has completely destroyed our future cruising ambitions. I believe that the condition of the SUN PRINCESS was not only unacceptable but unhygienic. The fear of getting Gastroenteritis was constant, being forced to constantly search for a public toilet that worked because the cabin toilet was broken is also unacceptable. (public info recommends that you use your cabin toilet to help prevent possible Gastroenteritis outbreaks) Lifts were constantly breaking down. Laundry machines were broken, the token machines was broken, No soap powder available, (this was happening on every deck) you then had to line up for an hour to buy tokens from the service desk. When you did eventually get to complain it always seemed like it took two days to rectify anything, even filling up the laundry powder machine took two days. There were so many people complaining every day that the queue was always long, you could hardly ever get the service desk to answer the phone because they were so busy. Princess Cruises main advertising slogan is “come back new” I heard young kids running around their corridors singing “come back smelling like poo” when faced with their cabin overflowing. We spent the majority of our time being frustrated and stressed due to non-working private and non-working public amenities, no hot water and no air conditioner, and hardly anything to eat if your Celiac. Never again. Read Less

The Sun Princess basically should be scrapped. It is well past its use by date even after a two week $30 Million refit. The only two things that it had going for it were it's general staff, whom were fantastic all of them and the food which was very very good. Day before embarkation we were told Kuala Lumpur had been removed from trip itinerary due to a generator problems causing reduced speed and that each of us would be offered a $100 on board credit as compensation WOW!!!! Embarkation was slow but not tiresome. We had balcony stateroom on Baja Deck 10, they were small but ok. Cabin steward was great as were all of the general crew everywhere. The swimming pools were all out of use first day due to water quality issues. Our shower in the cabin was one day scolding next day cold for the whole trip. Our toilet blocked regularly and was out for a whole day once even after having reporting it so three times. People were regularly getting trapped in the lifts the whole trip. The laundry flooded leaving the passageway soaking and smelly. The laundry token machine did not work. Dining room was great, great food, great staff. Entertainment was hit and miss but overall acceptable. The gym was good with good serviceable equipment. Kids club was fantastic, the best i have seen, well done! Ship excursions mmmmmm. Before we got on two of our reserved excursions got cancelled because they were undergoing maintenance. Pity we weren't told that when we reserved them. The phi phi island tour in Phuket was looking good. We readied ourselves having received notification in our stateroom, went to the meeting point, put on our stickers and waited to be taken off the ship. The the excursions officer approached us and said we cant go on the tour as our son was to young (11) and we had a minute to make up our minds for a change!!!!!. She was arrogant, rude and needs demoting to bilge cleaner where she would be best suited. That left one tour, which we went on and enjoyed, even though a little expensive as with most ship tours. They even tried to charge us for the Phi Phi island tour on our on board account! We were at sea for Anzac day and the service was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt until the cruise director got half way through the lords prayer and forgot the words! Sun Princess bobs around like a cork in the deep ocean swells and last three days down the West Australian coast saw most confined to quarters with sea sickness. Overall assessment.......I am an ex navy man 55 yrs old, not old and grumpy and wingy. I call it the way it it is, the truth. My overall assessment would be to avoid the Sun Princess if you don't want any of the above issues and if you suffer from sea sickness in any form. The general staff and food were fantastic and the ship itself was always clean and tidy although she did seem to have a "crowding" issue also. That is the inability to escape crowds in public areas throughout the ship which i have never experienced before. I expected so much more, having been told Princess were the best, that was not our experience sadly. Read Less
