As our other cruises had always departed from Sydney,we were excited to be able to cruise from Fremantle for a change.Plus,we had never been to Malasia,Phuket or Singapore before. In the weeks leading up to our cruise,I started reading a few reviews on the Sun Princess,so I was a bit anxious for a start as a few were negative. However,we found the ship, meals, entertainment ,service & excursions first class,& had a great time. Both the embarkation & disembarkation went really smoothly. We enjoyed the cruise so much, that we intend to cruise on the Sun Princess again in the future,& would recommend it to anyone wishing to have a great value for money cruise. At the end of our cruise,at Singapore, the ship is spending 2 weeks in dry dock to get a refurbish which will make it even better. The majority of the passengers were seniors (as we were),but we still managed to mix with younger couples along the way.The entertainment was first class--both the musicians and the dancers.Prices for drinks were the normal restaurant prices--about $8.75 beer & wine,&$12.00 for cocktails. We didn't use the drinks package as it amounted to $80/per day,per person, which is a bit steep,Also $29/day for internet use we thought was a bit high, especially as we only wanted to send a couple of emails.Apart from this,we had a great holiday relaxing in the spa, the pool,& around the bars listening to the great entertainment, and would recommend the Sun Princess to anyone wishing to get away. Cheers Leo. Read Less

This was my first cruise and I really enjoyed it. The food in the Regency dining room was of a high standard. The free coffee in the Horizon dining area was absolutely dreadful, so as a coffee lover the only alternative was to purchase coffee (which was much better). The NZ icecream shop was over-priced and there was no free alternative (other people said on other cruises there was free soft-serve). I felt the choice of entertainment was lacking a little, the shows we saw were great. The shore excursions were ok, though the weather in Phuket meant our trip to Phi Phi island was cancelled. Staff were all friendly and courteous. The fitness classes (yoga and pilates) were very similar and the instructor did not ask about any existing injuries or condition-which is important with older 50+ clients). Much better to do own thing on a quiet piece of deck. All in all a good budget introduction to cruising. Read Less

This was our first cruise and the start of many more. This exceeded any expectations that we had. From the minute you embark to disembark you will know that you are going to be on the most fabulous holiday and it is impossible not to enjoy yourself! The staff and crew are just amazing and will make sure that you enjoy every single moment. The cruise is catered for absolutely everyone. This is just the start of our journey and look forward to many future cruises with princess cruises. It was laid-back, fun and friendly. We met some wonderful passengers and the atmosphere on-board was buzzing! There seemed to me a great mix of Couples, singles, seniors and families with kids. Whether you enjoying the shows, spas, pools, bars or restaurants there is something for everyone without an overcrowded feel! I cannot wait to start planning our next princess cruise! Read Less

I went on this cruise with my sister. She got bitten by what we are sure were bedbugs. We both were sick most of the cruise. The coffee was terrible and the food all tasted the same and not much choice. I will never cruise with Princess again. It was a terrible trip for the price we paid for it. Most of the staff were pleasant though and tried to help us. I couldn't believe how many aged people were on board. There were quite a few wheel chairs and some small gophers. I don't mind old people as I work in an aged facility but there just were too many. I will never travel with Princess again. The ship was aged. It needs to be docked and revamped which I believe is going to happen. I had heard good things about Princess cruises but this ship was not one of the good ones. Never again Read Less

I was unfortunate to have a severe allergic reaction to something I ate on board and my whole body was covered in welts and a red itchy rash. I also collapsed in my stateroom. I was presented with a medical bill for almost $1600-00 for treatment of which $1070-00 was for professional services only and the rest for medication and supplies. Absolutely riduculous!!!! Not to mention the attitude of the nurse who had to attend to me because it was 2-00 in the morning. She was not very happy and certainly let me know it. The other staff, whilst polite, were very abrupt and unsympathetic. Not much better to be said for the rest of the cruise. Ship is quite old and worn in certain areas i.e. taps not working and lifts very slow or not working. Food was average. Stateroom steward was excellent. Entertainment was very good but not long enough. Read Less

Evening entertainment was professional and well suited to the crowd attending. A large range of movies from all genre was greatly appreciated, especially as other cruise lines charge excessive amounts for a single film. Embarkation was smooth and welcoming and had a feeling of coming home.Cabin was ready and the buffet was waiting for us' The bar service was friendly and the environment relaxing and tidy. Why did I choose this Cruise. The reasons are many and varied and in retrospect I am wondering why. Firstly this cruise started and left from my home port of Fremantle, as did my previous Princess Cruise, the 2015 INDIAN OCEAN ODYSSEY There were no other cruise lines operating this itinerary from Fremantle, it was this or nothing, extremely limiting in this case. Having arrived at the Terminal and started the Check in procedure, all was going well until the point an impatient Staff Member snatched my documents from my hand and scattered them all over the floor along with other papers and money that I was attempting to put back in my document folder, at this point I was separated from my wife who was whisked along one of two lines, it took sometime before we met up again at Immigration, from there things proceeded quite smoothly. The cabin was fine. it was referred to as a STATEROOM, Poetic License here, but that was OK with me, I got what I expected. We chose to eat in the Horizon Buffet as we did on our previous trip when we enjoyed most meals, For this trip the Horizon was a let down, mostly the food was limited to cheaper quality meals that were mainly Luke war to just about cold in some cases. There was a distinct lack of fish dishes, Prawns that were plentiful on the last cruise, were not in evidence until the last night. The Roast Meats were predominately Pork. Having said that, the Pork was some of the best I had ever eaten. Some of the Soups were excellent and mostly HOT (Temperature wise). The choice of Bread and rolls was very good and of the highest quality. Sweets were a big let down, mostly Jellies, Bread and Butter Pudding and similar choices. The NO ICE CREAM was a poor decision to remove from the sweets menu, when people asked, they were told if the wanted ICE CREAM, that they could go down one deck and buy it. Hmmmm.!..... that went down well with everyone. Excessive volumes from the CINEMA under the Stars seemed to be in excess of OH &S safe levels, to the point, where it was impossible to hold a conversation across the small tables. Repeated requests to reduce the sound level were ignored, to the point of desperation, where I rang Princess in Sydney to ask if they could possibly intervene, this also fell on Deaf Ears, they may have encountered this excess volume in the past. This noise pollution was NEVER RECTIFIED. Outdoor seating was very uncomfortable ( old chairs from the Pizza Bar I think. Drink prices, from water to Alcohol were priced at Top End restaurant prices, considering that alcohol would have been purchased by Princess at DUTY FREE prices, it was definitely a RIP OFF considering guests were limited to two bottles of wine. The constant Sales were most annoying and restricted movement around the ship. This was fine for people who like to shop, but we were on a Cruise, not a daily trip to a SHOPPING MALL at sea. Entertainment was very good and varied, and well patronised and enjoyed by most. Internet pricing was high, having said that , I found it fast and efficient. Bar service on Deck 12 could have been much better, some Bar Staff were excellent, whilst others left a lot to be desired. The TERRACE GRILL was Top Notch with great staff and fast service, however the Menu was limited. Ships Announcements, were mostly gibberish when they were done by staff with English as a second language, in comparison to the Clear and Concise English of the Captain. General Announcements need to be improved. Princess promote themselves as Cruise specialists, This is different to what they deliver, and is far from what cruising once was, what they provide is transport, a bed and board and a shopping mall with different destinations. This may come across as a whinge, however I was asked for a review, so there it is, Warts and all. If you were on this voyage, and have no criticism, then you are just the people Princess want. as long as you accept declining standards of Cruising, this is what you get. Read Less

This cruise was chosen for the convenience of being able to board locally. Somewhat surprised by the high proportion of older people on-board. This cruise achieved its objective of giving my wife a rest from her daily routine but it wasn’t exciting or original. It felt very much like everyone was just going through the motions. An overall cost of around $7000 for two weeks off work doesn’t really seem like great value. The food especially was very average indeed. The daily activity guide was very useful. Cabin staff are very good indeed, as are dining room staff. For the second cruise in succession, a shore excursion which we chose ran well overtime and offered no refreshment (food) despite starting at 10:50 and finishing around 4:30 on a hot and humid day. Water was supplied. Onboard entertainment generally good, resident musicians were outstanding. Some poor coordination resulted in long periods without any entertainment on some occasions. The main onboard theatre areas are nowhere near big enough - you need to be there 40 minutes before a show to get a seat for a 45 minute production. Constant product promotions became very annoying, even though the staff pushing the products weren’t too persistent. Some prices were exorbitant, especially the photographic services. $25 for each colour 10*8 print was not value. Some photography company staff arrogant and pushy. Onboard cell phone charges extortionate - $5 per minute to make or receive calls. Captain’s communications were good, clear and frequent. Read Less

Also, we had never been Perth so thought it would be the perfect opportunity to visit there & other places along the way. Right from the start we were having the most amazing time together. There was always something to do onboard or just relax on one of the many deck chairs with a good book. The restaurant was a great place to enjoy a meal & formal nights were even more special, it was a good opportunity to dress up. We were very lucky with calm seas most of the time as 2 of us do suffer from seasickness. I just wore the sea bands & took travel calm original on a couple of occasions. Chose this cruise with sister in law for her 60th birthday. Can't fault the staff they were brilliant and dining waiters made our experience a very fun and memorable one which we looked forward to each evening. The night before disembarking was disappointing as things went wrong e.g. drinks charged to our account which shouldn't have been as we had drinks package. Reception staff were very good at trying to fix problem however it required going back to them 3 times. Sister in laws door card had to be replaced 4 times as it wouldn't open door. One photo staffer was extremely rude on formal photo night which we witnessed again later towards his own staff members on raffle draw. Were refused a coffee at Cafe as staff argued we didn't have a drinks package when we did. Theatre is far too small and requires lots of sitting around early in order to get seats for second show. Captains Circle event was disappointing. Much prefer P & O's approach where you walk in get given canapes and a drink and then line up to get photo with Captain. This event was just sitting in the Theatre hearing a couple of songs from the Princess singers and getting given a free drinks coupon as we left. Over way too quickly. Found the age demographic too old for our age group however in saying this found lots of very friendly people who would strike up a lovely conversation. Just too many wheelie walkers and wheelchairs for our liking. Entertainment staff definitely generated lots of fun throughout the cruise. Shows didn't go long enough - each one only half an hour. Darwin disembarking was horrendous and our tour Jumping Crocodiles very disappointing. Tour included a 1 hour croc tour on the river and a visit to the Humpty Doo Pub. Spent 1 hr at pub and arrived at croc tour at 5 pm, on water at 6 pm and told we were turning around at 6.30 pm. Got lovely sunset photos but that's not what we were there for. Saw 2 crocs on the bank that looked really disinterested as sun had gone down and tour should have been cancelled by ship as we were late getting off ship to begin with and then there were 4 big coaches that headed out there far too late. When heaps of people complained they denied we weren't on the river for 1 hour and preferred to listen to the videographer who said we were, instead of the passengers however all our cameras had the times on the photos as proof but they didn't want to know about it. Our stateroom however was fantastic. Shower was generous and bed was the most comfortable I have slept in on a cruise ship. Position was good as there were no noise problems however because our doors faced each other on a V angle our doorway entrance was quite tight fitting. Food was fantastic and lots off different varieties of places to eat e.g. the restaurants, Horizons Buffet or Terrace Grill. Would have no problem choosing the Princess line again however probably not the Sun as it is a very old ship. Read Less

We had never between around the top of Australia or to PNG so we booked the North and Western Australia Explorer cruise on the Sun Princess departing Sydney 26 April. We enjoyed our 17 days. While some say the ship is looking its age we found everything ok. Not all the entrainment was to out taste the entertainers we saw are great. My mother taught me to wash or clean my hands before and it was great to see this happening onboard. Not been very good with stairs I found that we spend a lot of time waiting for lifts. Service in the dining room was very good as was the service in the Horizon Court. A couple of negative comments - Brisbane - because the Pacific Dawn was berthed at the cruise terminal we were berthed right out at the river mouth in with the cargo boards kilometres away from the CBD. Bus trip cost $29.00. On this cruise there were no children on board so I would thought the movies shown in some cases would have been for an older audience. The Kimberley Coast was just a little disappointing because of the fires but overall for us it was a good cruise it was what we wanted and also what we wanted to see. Read Less

We chose this trip primarily as on opportunity to visit northern Australia (Darwin, Broome, Geraldton) in a cost effective manner and reasonable time frame. P&O and Princess Cruises (& probably all lines) have embarkation and disembarkation down to a fine art. Having had a long career in logistics I marvelled at the smoothness of disembarking 2000 passengers and embarking the same number, cleaning all cabins, replenishing stores, doing necessary maintenance etc within the space of 8 hours. Of course there are crowds and some confusion as everyone mills around, but once one is in the right queue it is a very efficient process. Given the number of passengers ships carry (1600-3500) delays are very reasonable. Once aboard finding your way around is similar to any large hotel, except the ships provide maps. As a generalisation cabins are smaller than hotel rooms, but are well designed and more the adequate for two people. (I shudder to think of 4 persons sharing the space though!) There is an enormous range of activities and entertainment provided. Generally everyone can find something to suit their requirements. On the Sun Princess the main theatre is totally inadequate, with people arriving an hour or more prior to starting times in order to secure a seat. Overall crew service was excellent, but needs some work for those with special dietary needs. It was very hard to fault any of the staff for efficiency, friendliness and pleasant politeness. Based on our experience some of the port excursions need some work. Adequate communication with providers and the shipping line is lacking. It seems that the line designs the tours and hands an itinerary to the drivers on the day who have to try and make it work. Items are not necessarily in a logical sequence, are inappropriate streets are nominated, resulting in confusion and going around in circles. On this cruise I recommend pre-booking the ship's excursions. Pre-booking is cheaper than booking on board; many excursions were fully booked well in advance of the sailing date; it is soooooo much easier getting off the ship, time saving and I did not notice many (if any) tour operators lining up to tout for business. (Quite different to the South Pacific cruises). The ship appeared to have commandeered most of the available buses/tours etc. The two disappointing ports were Alotau (PNG) and Darwin. A few old mini buses and utilities appeared to be available for hire, but in the main the ship had booked all that was available. We went to the Cultural Festival and found it quite disappointing. Alotau is a small third world town is not geared to handle 2,000 visitors. The positives were a presumed boost to their economy, and by being an "international" cruise the ship could open its casino and passengers could purchase tax free. And it enables a lower fare. Arriving in Darwin at 2:00pm on a Sunday is quite ridiculous, especially as the few shops that open on Sunday close at 3:00pm, which was prior to the first passengers disembarking. Again, even there I did not observe any independent tour operators waiting. Prior to booking the ship's excursions I checked independent prices and found the ship's markups around $20 - $25. In my opinion that is worth avoiding the hastels of making your own arrangements, guaranteed a reliable operator, and very importantly guaranteed to get aboard if the ship's operator is late - as happened with our first tour. I observed at least 8 tours arriving well after the close of boarding time at various ports. Read Less

First time on the Sun, & while the ship is a smaller, older model it is still very comfortable. Both the cabin & public spaces were clean & bright. Liked the addition of hand washing sinks at the entry to the Horizon Court food bar. Staff as usual were very helpful. Missed the Princess stable "Happy Hour", which was always great value & a good social time. Also the new drinks package is very expensive, we decided against it, not only because of the cost but also because there is a 15 drink limit, which seemed unfair given the cost. Food was alright, not up to the standard we have previously experienced with Princess. Dining room staff were excellent. Embarkation was the usual Princess nightmare! I don't know why they bother to give times to board by deck, only to completely disregard the process. Although I will state that the ship was late into port & embarkation pushed back by 4 hours which obviously didn't help the situation. But still not handled well. Read Less

Friends were going on it. i wanted to see Fiji. I love cruising I think it is the best way to get around as we age. But I also think that the cruise lines are lowering their standards. i have been on the Sun princess 3 times and things have changed, no more free ice creams and if you are a family that ads up. no free water $3.50 per bottle is steep. They don't have salmon and prawns much any more i remember the first time we had those at 11.30 pm after the shows my husband always had some more soup as he loved their soups now they close at 11 pm. so if you want a cuppa you have to pay for it yet you can get a free cake does not add up.they have also moved the carpet bowls in to the casino what a silly place for it was much more fun on deck 5.There should also be a games room instead of playing games in the library it is way too noisy to read a book when people are playing games.there is also not enough seating around the ship they have taken away the seating on deck 7 and put a Sushi bar there and there were hardly any customers during the 14 day cruise mainly staff. So many older people were on the Sun but finding a nice chairs that is comfy is hard to come by. But i still love the Sun and I would travel on her again. Read Less

The day finally arrived the12th April 2018 this is the Cruise where I came a Elite Captain Circle member , I have always found with Princess Cruises that does not matter if you had 800 sail days or 0 sail days ALL the staff on ALL their Ships treated you as Royalty. The Sun Princess is like a Home away from Home. The Stateroom that I was in on Caribe 734 which had a small balcony that was ok for me as I was sailing by myself , the rest of stateroom had plenty of room and the Queen size bed was very comfortable especially with the 1000 thread cotton sheets & my Cabin Steward looked after me very well. I took the set time Dinning option (5.15pm) @ the Marquis Dinning room good service and great food. The Entertainment was a great mix with Show Productions by the Singers & Dancers the First show was called "Bravo" with guest (opera singer) Emily Garth and Baritone Javier Villarino ALL I CAN SAY "BRAVO" the other guests performers were Pearson & Harvey, Marcus Winter(Sandman), Steve Larkins( a tribute to the group Queen) ,Simon McKinney (NZ Comedian),Claude -Eric (Singer),Jason Ryder(Comedian) and Bradley Macaw (Pianist/ Singer) All these Artists were Excellent. The Cruise Director staff did a great job either keep us fit like Dan did in the Zumba classes or doing Carpet Bowls there was plenty of things to do or you just relax by the pool. All the service across the Ship was A1 . The Tours which were available catered for ALL needs the tours I picked I was very happy with so happy I was with this cruise that am sailing again in September 27th 2018 on the 14 Day cruise on the Majestic Princess, so Happy Sailing to all. The outdated swirly carpet that I initially saw upon embarkation didn’t bother me. The chipped paint in the lift upon entering the first elevator didn’t bother me. In fact the pube that we found on the pillow upon entering our room didn’t even bother me - we actually thought it was funny and affectionately name him ‘Pete The Pube.’ What did bother me though? The gut wrenching smell of mould and, even worse, sewerage, particularly on the lower floors of this ship! My friends were on Emerald deck and there were buckets along the corridor catching drips of who knows what leaking everywhere - it was gross and disgusting! Thankfully I was high up on Aloha deck. I’ve been on many cruises in my time and this ship was in the worst state I’ve ever seen... I only spent 4 nights on her, but I could not have stayed another night! 300 passengers embarked for the last 4 nights of a full New Zealand Cruise heading back to Sydney. We were excited and were ready to party... only to be told that the nightclub would be closed by 11pm and that was then end of our fun for the night - which is sub standard from the many cruises I’ve taken. There were constant leaks on the top decks as well, which were unsafe, you had to be really careful. I couldn’t believe that once I disembarked in Sydney this ship was on its way through the Pacific and on its way up to Hawaii... it really needs to go straight to a ship yard and taken to bits for parts! The crew tried their best, but they know they’re on a sinking ship...all I can say is BUYER BEWARE! Read Less

This was our first cruise with Princess after being loyal to another cruise line and we were very pleasantly surprised. Our cabin was quite charming and had lovely decor with dark wood trim on ivory walls. The hallways were more attractive, too. There seemed to be more staff in the dining room. We did not find the menu selection to be as good but did appreciate the fact that the food wasn't too salty. We really enjoyed our meals at Share and the Sterling Steakhouse. It was great to see the strict enforcement of hand hygiene when entering Horizon Court. You could not just use the alcohol hand wash - they made you use the sinks. We loved all the music around the ship. It was lovely to sit in the Atrium, International Cafe or other nearby areas and hear the piano player. The evening production shows were excellent. We were disappointed that we could never get to the early show because we would not be finished our dinner in time. By 40 minutes before show time, there were no seats left in the theatre. We really enjoyed dancing in the Wheelhouse bar to the music of The Great Escape Duo nearly every night. Too bad there weren't more dancers on board! We selected Princess because we heard that there are more dancing opportunities and this is very important to us when we cruise. We loved the ballroom dance with the stage band and the Rock N Roll night in the Vista Lounge. There seemed to be quite a few activities available during the day, ranging from trivia to dance lessons and choir. We liked Doc & Raina teaching us some of the Maori language as well as the Haka dance. Colin O'Mara-Green gave an awesome lecture about space and we would have loved to hear more from him. Andrew seemed like a good cruise director - very visible and enthusiastic. We were extremely fortunate to be able to make all our ports on this cruise. Disembarkation was extremely slow at Dunedin due to a problem with one of the ramps. We waited in line for 50 minutes and nearly missed our tour. The tendering process was very well organized and smooth. At the end, the captain had to change course to avoid a major storm which caused a 6 hour delay arriving back in Sydney. Fortunately, this did not affect our travel plans. Princess, please stop wasting paper on all those flyers for jewelry, spa sessions and art - they go straight to the garbage. We were surprised to see such a huge photography section and prices so sky high. Seems to us this space could be better used for something else (?another cafe/bar). Read Less

Our 13 day accommodations on the "Beautiful" Sun Princess, as we cruised around New Zealand tarted like this! The balcony was covered in rust, and the whole room smelled very unclean and musty. We felt like we were on a barge, rather than a (so called) "luxury cruise liner!" After complaining to several people, they painted over the rust and cleaned the carpets and also cleaned the mould off the ceiling sprinkler. The room smelled cleaner and since the ship was fully booked we accepted the situation. Aside from this, from day one there was also a very strong and very unpleasant sewage smell all around the ship, which we brought to the attention of Customer service as well. We were told that they were aware of it, and it was being addressed. The smell continued for the entire 13 days! We also brought this concern to the attention of the Chief Engineer as well as the Captain himself and were given apologies but nothing was rectified. As for the rest, we found the food adequate as was the entertainment. This was our 11th. Cruise with Princess, so needless to say were shocked to find such a decline in our overall experience. Since returning home I have written these concerns and observations to Ms. J. Swartz, President of Princess Cruise Lines, and sent copies to their Customer service dept. as well as Ms. L. Black, manager, customer relations, and heard nothing so far. How can a company as large as "Princess" allow this ship, and probably others as well, to continue cruising around the globe under these deplorable conditions? Shame on you for still taking our money and subjecting us to anything less than what we deserve and dearly pay for! Read Less

The most important reasons we chose this itinerary were: 1) see & cruise Fiordland Nat'l Park & Milford Sound, 2) traverse the Southern Alps of NZ, & 3) visit a Maori village to experience the culture, meals, traditions, etc. of the NZ islands. We got to see only #3 because bad weather cancelled going to the ports servicing Fiordland and the Southern Alps. All the other ports were just added fluff to us with interesting wine tours in NZ that helped us forget our disappointments, but only briefly. The Sterling Steakhouse on this ship was also a BIG disappointment. It is not even a dedicated restaurant anymore....just a section of Lido Deck's Horizon Court buffet dining room partitioned off with screens. You can still hear all the kitchen noises of Horizon Court & you can hear all the conversations (including screaming & misbehaving children) of Horizon. These conditions make the "luxury" dining experience that used to be Sterling Steakhouse a total farce, and Princess still has the audacity to charge $29 per person to experience it. A total rip-off. As for the new "Share by Curtis Stone" dining experience that charges even more per person, one look at that menu tells you nothing is appetizing & there are only tasting portions, not real food items for a good meal. Our mini-suite stateroom was not stocked as it should've been upon our arrival because the steward was re-assigned to another job at the last minute, and his replacement was told the room was completely ready. When we discovered several problems with the cabin, we had to contact the new steward several times as we discovered the problems. He was very prompt & helpful, so we forgave the mistakes of which he was not made aware. The Anytime Dining was as expected & operated very smoothly, the food was excellent & served properly, but the specialty sushi restaurant (extra charges) seemed too pricey (they charge by the piece, not a flat charge), so we skipped the sushi restaurant. For my money, stick with Anytime Dining because the lamb chops served in that dining room were better than the ones served at Sterling. We also met 1 passenger from Australia who said this was his 4th cruise on Princess to try to see Fiordland & Milford Sound, and he has YET to see them after this cruise. We advised him to do like we plan to do in a future year: fly to NZ, rent a car & do a car trip of both islands to spend more time in the areas we missed & see both attractions on days with good weather. The new Luxury Bed was a little underwhelming for me after having seen all the Princess hype for the past 2 years over the new beds themselves. For my money, Marriott still has a better bed than Princess. Read Less

Cruise booked in Dec.2016 .A bit apprehensive about going on the Sun with the recent cases of Noro Virus but we decided to go ahead & take our chances. We were notified the day before departure that the Sun was being sanitized (again) as well as White Bay our boarding time was delayed till 5pm... We thank Princess for notifying us well in advance .Embarkation went smoothly We waited approx. 1 hr before we could get into our cabin so a quick cuppa & cake @ Horizon Court was just the ticket .We didnt get underway til 8pm but that didnt matter, the Sydney Skyline lit up & the cruise under the Harbour Bridge was superb & we were underway. Weather crossing to NZ was bad at times, Cyclone Hola didnt help, excursions were great, due to cancellations, refunds appreciated..Food great, entertainment, excellent. Some public toilets on all decks including disabled toilets were either blocked or under maintenance .. one elderly lady was locked in a toilet & had to wait til crew could rescue her..Capt Kent's daily anecdotes & trivia was very entertaining. Hygiene in food areas was excellent. Crew very friendly, helpful always greeted us with a smile & a "hello" So despite the rocky crossing, 2 missed Fiords, the trip back out into the Tasman ( from Wellington) to avoid Cyclone Hola, 2 missed excursions, a fire in the kitchen ,seasick passengers.. we had a ball..We met some lovely people everyday & thoroughly enjoyed their company.. The cruise out to Lord Howe Island & Ball's Pyramid was a highlight. The Sun Princess is a grand old lady & with an upcoming refit I'm sure she'll "come back new " & we'll be on her again in Feb 2019 to Tassie Read Less

We were near getting caught in the cyclone, missed 2 ports and Fiordlands, fire on board, Dale got stuck in a life, the food was cold, the coffee colder, the cabin was as small as my spare room, the cabin steward didn't clean the shower in the 2 weeks I was on board. The prices on board were ridiculous; you had to pay for ice cream. The prices for port excursions were so expensive and did not do all the activities they were meant to and $15 for a bus into one of the town from the ship. There was hardly anything for disabled fun. The shows were good with the comedians. The staff shows were shocking. There were not any themed nights, and what there was we weren't told about before the cruise so we could take the appropriate clothing. The formal night was changed without word. A lot of the disabled toilets were out of order. I could go on! I will NEVER travel with Princess again! Read Less

This Cruise was a disaster. Booked flights thru Princess EZAir. Flight delays caused us to miss the ship departure. No assistance from Princess In-Route Assistance as promised. No reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs. The ship was a dilapidated rust bucket. Ship skipped or was significantly late arriving at 4 of 9 ports/destinations causing us to miss excursions. Spent port days at sea putting passengers at risk in storms rather than allowing passengers to disembark to see New Zealand by land and avoid bad weather at sea. Ship often smelled like sewage in indoor common areas. No reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs due to travel delays booked thru EZAir. Several departure and delays due to ship malfunctions. Clothes washers and dryers not functioning and in disrepair. Tender hoists malfunctioned. Enrichment activities came with sales pitches designed to enrich Princess. The Sanctuary area of the ship was never available for passenger use. Only positive comment is for the dining and room staff. All staff folks were pleasant and provided excellent service. Complaint filed with Princess fell on deaf ears. While Princess did acknowledge the problems with the cruise, they only offered minimal credit for future cruises. No more Princess for us! I would recommend Princess to NO ONE! Don't punish yourselves! Sun Princess is an old dilapidated ship - Not recommended! Read Less
