My husband and I are always on the lookout for vacations that are adventurous vs. pretentious and give you a real feel of the area and all it has to offer, while still providing top notch service, accommodations and excursions. Island Windjammers and The Diamant gave us all of that and more! From the first phone call to inquire about the trip until they dropped us at the airport heading home, we were impressed with Island Windjammers. Not a single detail was overlooked and the experience exceeded all of our expectations. The ship was beautiful and in excellent shape. Our cabin was super clean and surprisingly spacious for a ship Diamant's size (Choose cabin 6 if possible - it was the largest and in the center of the boat). The crew was outstanding! Knowledgeable, personable and very capable in each of their roles. They felt like old friends by the end of the trip. The food was to die for! Barney works miracles in that tiny kitchen! It was a great sampling of local Grenadian flavor and traditional American fare that was exquisitely plated and delicious. We visited a different island every day and a new adventure was awaiting. The snorkeling equipment was in great shape and each day we snorkeled a different beach and reef. The disembarkation was incredibly painless and went very smooth. We were so sad to say goodbye and leave the ship and all I can think about since we arrived home, is when can I go back? For me, there truly is no better way to vacation and see a lot of the Carribbean at once, than a trip like this. It's been a long time since I was able to leave on vacation, turn my phone off, and not have to really make a single decision or have to worry about anything. I was able to literally relax my mind, body and soul and felt rested and rejuvenated when I got home. Thank you to Island Windjammers and Captain Stu and the Crew of The Diamant for a trip of a lifetime! I HIGHLY recommend this company and will FOR SURE return for another sailing adventure with IWJ! IWJ exceeded every single one of my expectations. This was by far the best vacation we've ever taken. My boyfriend and I talked to their trip planner when deciding whether to do the cruise. She was amazingly helpful, even offering summer beach read recommendations! We booked it and received periodic updates and pre-boarding information. I do wish they had given us even the most tentative itinerary, though--even after we got on the boat there was no handout of where we were going, though there was a daily schedule on the whiteboard. We had never been sailing or on a cruise before and didn't know what to expect. The boat is beautiful and they raised the sails as often as they could. Plenty of seating both in the front and the back. Also we ALL took the motion sickness pills and were all fine, save for one day in which we all struggled in the morning because of very choppy seas. But other than that, totally fine! Food was excellent! I'm both a vegetarian AND picky and George made me incredible things. On the first day I mentioned that I didn't like eggs (not a vegan, just picky) and after that, without saying a WORD, I never got a dish with eggs, not even a salad! The sauces were especially delicious, and I was so grateful that they stocked up on some soya for me and the other vegetarian. There is also Rumaggeddon at 4pm, with special recipe rum punch and snacks. Definitely looked forward to that every day! The locations we went to were beautiful. White sandy beaches, fun local bars, and some incredible snorkeling. It was so relaxing! When we anchored, there was a rope swing, and access to kayaks, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. Did I mention a ROPE SWING? At night, they would turn off the lights so we could stargaze. The boat had a cooler of all-you-can-drink sodas and beers, with unlimited wine as well. We also only visited ONE island where you had to pay for an excursion (which was only $30), so everything really is included in the price. But really, the most amazing part of the whole trip was the staff. Captain Phillip was great. He let my boyfriend steer the ship and taught him about sailing, and ate every meal with us. King gave a comedy show (indescribable!). And then there's Bolo. Oh, Bolo, I miss you every day! Our steward was INCREDIBLE. So attentive to our every need, made our rooms look great every day, and just generally lovely and wonderful and a joy to be around. King made a necklace for one of the passengers as a gift! And they gave us all a map signed by them at the end, as a souvenir. Our trip had only 11 people and by the end we were all exchanging Facebook accounts and email addresses. It's such an intimate and lovely experience to travel with such a small group from all over the world and see such amazing places. We ranged in age from 17 to mid-50s (we're early 30s). Finally, a shoutout to Monja, the local contact in Grenada. She was so fun and helpful and even invited us to a Grenadian Hashing (google Hash House Harriers). We tried to make it but were too late, alas, but it looked like fun. She made us feel so welcome on her adopted home! In sum, best vacation ever. GO GO GO. We never do the same trip twice but oh man, we are SO doing this again with a different itinerary! Read Less

Excellent, superb, the best....it's rare indeed to have an experience that so exceeds every expectation that there isn't a superlative fine enough to do it justice. Wanting a very special vacation to celebrate our 40th anniversary, we finally decided to ship-out with Island Windjammers for the week. We selected Diamant precisely because she is small allowing for a cruise that would be more intimate with the sea, but affording a level of style, service and comfort we wanted for this special week. The shipboard experience was beyond what you would experience in the finest hotel. We were wonderfully cared for from the moment we stepped on deck in St. George's, Grenada to the moment we stepped off. Diamant is a beautiful lady extremely very well maintained. Our safety was at every moment assured by an ever vigilant and experienced captain and crew who also assured we enjoyed every moment of the cruise. The itinerary was as advertised. We visited interesting islands, explored local towns, swam and snorkeled in the clear, warm eastern Caribbean, and spent some lovely idyllic time just sitting on deck watching Diamant sail. Cabin 5 was terrific. Surprisingly roomy given Diamant's size with plenty of storage space. The head/shower was efficiently designed with all the comforts of home. The food was the best, including two fish caught by the chef while we were underway (can’t get fresher than that!!). We are already looking at the Diamant’s future sailing schedule. Read Less

This was my second time on the Diamant. This time we were a private 12 night charter to celebrate a friend's 50th wedding anniversary with vow renewals. We arrived in Grenada 4 days before sailing. Just in case we would have any issues with our flights or luggage, we wanted to be sure to not miss a day of sailing. Diamant had lovely arrangements made for the vow renewal ceremony! I can't begin to express how impressed I was with the entire crew! You could see they took safety very seriously. Great mixture of wonderful personalities. Very friendly, entertaining and helpful while still being quite professional. I must admit the chef on this sailing was awesome! Hard to believe he is able to be so creative in such a small kitchen. we really enjoyed many different entrees of fresh fish. We don't see many fish here in the desert where we live. Dining al fresco with all the ocean breezes and star was wonderful. I could also see that Island Windjammer does indeed listen to feedback they receive from cruisers. I could see nice little things that had been added since my last sailing. Plenty of new deck chairs, sand chairs, floating mats and two new paddle boards. How fun was all this!! We had contacted Island Windjammer prior to our departure and they helped arrange a couple of Island Tours for us. It was great to be able to just add these expenses to our accounts. We enjoyed many special snorkeling days. The quiet powder sugar sand beaches were very enjoyable. The captain even snorkeled with us at times. He was able to pint out many interesting undersea creatures that we would have missed. Put a whole new dimension on our snorkeling experience. Lights added underneath the Diamant created an wonderful ambiance at night. It was a lot of fun to see what sea life would be attracted to the lights. We were even entertained one evening by bats eating insects that were attracted by the lights. What fun!! The information received prior to arriving in Grenada was very useful. No problems. They were able to answer all of our questions ahead of time. We had no surprises. The ship also makes its own fresh water. The water tastes very good and we always had plenty of it. We are starting to plan our next sailing adventure. Which Island Windjammer sailing vessel will it be??? Read Less

Just returned from the Island Windjammer’s Diamant Twelve Day Exploration, sailing from Grenada to St. Lucia and back. What a fun trip! “Little diamond” Diamant is a 101 foot double masted schooner that carries 12 passengers and a crew of 5. She is well maintained and very comfortable. Each cabin has individual controlled a/c, separate bath and shower. We were in cabin 4 which had two larges drawers under the bottom bunk, space for hanging clothes, three storage shelves, and ample storage in the bathroom. It is recommended you pack lightly and use soft luggage for easy storage. The food was excellent with a variety of breakfast entrees, seafood, chicken, pork, pastas, salads, soups, local fruits, awesome desserts including homemade ice cream, great afternoon snacks, and the infamous Rumaggedon aka rum punch. There was a cooler filled with soft drinks and beer as well as coffee and tea available throughout the day. Gained five pounds thanks to Chef Barney. The crew as attentive and safety conscious. I came home “spoiled.” The itinerary offered something for everyone – island tours, pristine beaches, snorkeling, swimming with the turtles, swimming off the ship, limin’ with new and old friends, a little shopping, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and a lot of relaxing. Twelve days of total bliss. We’ll be back! Read Less

We had an excellent time on our Island Windjammer Cruise in Grenada and the Grenadines. The crew was fabulous: Professional, friendly and fun. When they weren't watching out for our safety, or growing our waistlines, they were playing dominoes with us or otherwise enjoying our antics. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. I liked to get up early and enjoy every moment of our morning sails. Bolo, the steward, was never daunted by the sea swells as he delivered my 3 morning cups of coffee to the rolling bow. The itinerary was wonderful...it included a variety of experiences from an evening with a steel drum band, a BBQ and bonfire on the beach, snorkeling with turtles, exploring beautiful sandy beaches, opportunities to explored islands, and a kite-boarding show on a conch-shell made bar at Happy Hour on Happy Island. And I can't omit Rummageddon- sumptuous snacks with a rum punch-du-jour every afternoon! The rooms were clean and air conditioned. Each cabin has it's own bathroom with shower. They are small but the intimacy of the sailing ships and the anchorages they can access make this type of trip more attractive to me than Cruise Line cruise. For perspective, my background is bareboat sailboat charters as opposed to Cruise ships, and the room size, A/C, flush toilets and SERVICE compare favorably to a sailboat charter and made this trip a fabulous memory. We truly didn't want to disembark and hope to return next year for a longer cruise. Read Less

If your idea of vacation is dressing up for dinner and partying with a crowd, stop reading because Island Windjammer cruises won't be for you. If wearing shorts, a swim suit, and flip flops are your thing, read on. With a passenger total of 12, and a crew of 6 we could not have been more pampered aboard Diamant. Oh, we enjoyed fine dining...in fact at several stops our chef was spotted bagging baguettes or local fresh fruit for our meal, so that each dish was a taste of the Caribbean and we looked forward to every meal. Our refurbished tall ship (we had a/c in our cabin) could go places cruise ships cannot travel. My favorite stop had to be snorkeling with the turtles in Tobago Day Marine Park. We were often dropped on a private sunny beach with a cooler full of Carib beer and Ting with the choice of snorkeling or just relaxing on the sand. I swung from the deck of the ship on a rope swing, and I visited a bar built on a reef accessed by dingy only (Happy Island). The ship mostly motor sails, but if the winds were just right, we free sailed. The trip was too short, and I dream of being back on my favorite perch on deck with Bolo the steward bringing me my morning coffee (just the way I like it--he knows and remembers because we are so few). We LOVED the cruise. In fact, of our fellow sailors, all but one couple were repeat customers! From the fabulous service to the fantastic destinations, this trip was special. One needs to be able to board the dingy (crew helps) and it IS a sailing ship...take your Bonine (sea sick medicine)! Grenada is a terrific place to end the cruise and explore. Read Less

Diamant. What did I like best. So hard to say....good, fresh food, great crew, fantastic fellow passengers, incredible entertainment. Entertainment provided by the stars, the dolphins, turtles and crew. Incredible customer service from booking to disembarkation. From the start, while we were waiting to board, one of our nine co-passengers had forgotten her passport in the cab. We all waited and talked until Island Windjammer staff was was able to contact the cabdriver and have it returned. Did the remaining passengers complain? No way! That's the thing about Island Wondjammer cruisers- they care about their fellow passengers, even though we had all just met. There's no lines for a buffet, no lines for touring, no lines for anything. Our cruise started by the captain saying- Ok, it's your cruise-- here are some choices, what would you like to do. We could have stayed for the jump up (a live band and dance at the marina) or start sailing-- you don't get that on a mega line. Because the weather was great, we had a few other choicess along the way. The crew was fabulous. The steward, Bolo, was the most cheerful person I have ever met - he was also on our Sagitta cruise last year (the second Island Windjammer ship). We stayed in Cabin 3- one of the standard cabins. There is not much room for storage, but then you don't have to bring much...two pair of shorts, bathing suit and maybe a sundress or Hawaiin shirt. If you pack in a dufflebag, life is easier. The really big treat with Diamant is that it really is a sailing vessel! Sail...beach...sand...snorkel...small group...great crew..... What more do you need? Read Less

We just got back from a fabulous 6 night cruise through the Windward Islands with Island Windjammers! We are the kind of people who have no desire to take a cruise on one of those monster ships with thousands of people on board and this trip was exactly what we wanted!! The Diamant is a gorgeous boat that holds 12 passengers and 5 crew, and this is the perfect size to get to know the other people and crew. The cabins and bathroom were comfortable and we could store all of our stuff (pack lightly). The food was fantastic and plentiful and I always cleaned my plate; lots of great seafood and several fantastic pasta dishes with fish or shrimp. The fruit and vegetables were always fresh. The itinerary was a great blend of walking charming towns, hiking to the top of hills for great views, snorkeling, hanging out on the beach, playing on the rope swing off the bow of the boat, playing "pirate farewell together after dinner, visiting fun little bars and eating lobster pizza....not to mention riding the bow of the boat through fun waves and just sitting on the deck enjoying the sunrise and sunset! Every member of the crew was a joy to interact with! They were so nice and helpful and concerned about our safety when leaving the boat and dingy. The Captain actually got me coffee several times when the boat was rocking!! I can't say enough good things about the trip and have absolutely nothing negative to report! Read Less

The cruise lived up to expectations and more. The booking and pre-cruise process was great, very personable with quick responses to my every question. They recommended and arranged pre-cruise private tours and airport transfers. The whole process was very personalized. Once on the boat, it was relaxing and fun. The crew was so nice, friendly and attentive. The food was beyond expectations! Everything was delicious and the perfect amount and frequency. The activities took advantage of the islands we visited including walks, waterfalls, snorkeling, and beach picnics. We had a relaxing, fun week and met such nice people. We would like to do it again!
