We choose this cruise because of our proximity to the port of Mobile. It was cheap, at least it appeared to be. Seriously, think twice before booking. We have been on a lot of cruises. Carnival needs to retire this ship, work on it's staffing, attention to detail, service, food, and nickel and diming of guests This ship is disgusting. It smells, recently received a terrible health inspection report and it is obvious why. The Ludo buffet is absolutely gross. They served me a sandwich on a dirty plate. The food in the dining room is hit or miss, mostly miss. The standards are too low. If it was not for the bread, we would have not ate anything at least a couple of nights. We have decent palates, we are open to a lot of different types of food. But the quality was so poor, we often didn't have more than a couple of bites. Service was painfully slow and inattentive most of the time. As you walk around the ship, you will notice deferred maintenance. Mirrors missing from the ceiling in the dining room, faded bed lamps and ripped curtains in our staterooms, a faucet that is ready to come out of the sink in the women's bathroom near the casino. Nope, we will not be back. Carnival needs to get rid of this boat and raise it's standards for food and service. The sugar straws are also awful. Find another alternative and get rid of automatic gratuity. You are not giving anyone incentive to care. Read Less

I have sailed on the Fantasy twice before in the past and they were both positive For starters, the first day our room steward didn't have our room completely clean. When we arrived, there was an opened bottle of water half drank right on the table, dirty beach towels still on the chair, the bed was still messy, our third guest's bed wasn't made, we had to call to have our steward come and make it. Our steward was rude and dismissive throughout the entire cruise. It took our steward until late in the evening to come and clean our room. A lot of the staff on this cruise were very rude and dismissive towards me and I do not understand the reason. An example is when I asked for a corkscrew from room service. I called room service who told me to call my housekeeper. I called the house keeper who told me to call room service. No one wanted to handle this simple request, so I took the bottle of wine I needed open up to the bar and explained the problem that all I wanted to do was open this bottle of wine. The bartender would not help me. I saw a man in a white uniform who appeared to be a ship officer of some sort, and i explained to him all I needed was a cork screw to open this bottle, and cannot get anyone including my room steward to bring me a simple cork screw. His reply was "you can't drink that outside your cabin". That was his response. Wow. The ship seemed to be in disrepair the entire cruise. The foyer elevators were broken the entire time, Hot tub in the serenity area was closed the entire time. The drain in our sink was clogged, and the stopper was stuck that took hours to get resolved. only 1 outlet in the entire cabin for everyone to charge devices. You can definitely tell that Carnival is neglecting this ship! It is VERY sad to see! Room service was absolutely horrible on this cruise. Every time I needed to get a hold of room service, it seemed to be a chore to get someone on the phone, and waiting 45 minutes to an hour to get a sandwich or some ice was absolutely ridiculous. I had some issues in the casino with the Casino host. I was supposed to get the drinks on us card with a friend of mine who booked a casino offer. The Casino host, was extremely rude, combative, and dismissive. Carnival lost money from me because I refused to step foot in the casino the rest of the cruise. Overall, this was a very unsatisfactory experience. On a side note, the entertainment staff including the cruise director Pauly was really amazing and cool. The dining room staff was also great on this cruise, which is why I gave it 2 starts... but the rest of the staff should be let go. This ship also either needs to be renovated or they need to just retire it already if they are going to keep neglecting it because they are really making their brand look bad Read Less

First time cruiser excited about seeing Cozumel. I knew beforehand smoking was allowed in the bars and the casino, but I did not know the whole ship would smell like an bar! The lounges and casino do not have physical doors, The entry is wide open and the second-hand smoke travels throughout the ship. I will never go on another cruise unless it is non-smoking or doors and ventilation is installed. Also, there were so many drunk people even though it was not spring break time. I saw one college girl vomit onto a towel on the Serenity deck. The pool was very small and i would never take children on the cruise since there is such a drinking/partying atmosphere. I saw many, many women in the hallways and hamburger restaurant in only bikinis. Appropriate cover-ups were not enforced. The ship was clean and our dining room waiters Eric and Jorge were fantastic. It was hard to find your way around especially since the stairs are not labeled and you never knew which floor you were on. Floor level signs would have been a huge improvement. The onboard entertainment is what I would call cheesy. The bingo was $40 for three bingo cards and lasted less than 10 minutes of actual calling time. The website lists many restaurants, but in reality most of them were in the same cafeteria and each area was labeled as a separate restaurant. For example the ice cream machine was given a separate restaurant name. The coffee shop and sushi counter seemed to be tucked away in a small out of the way area and hard to find. The jewelry and pictures were pushed heavily. The pictures taken were displayed haphazardly and were moved around so much you could not keep up with your pictures to purchase. Read Less

First let me say that we had bad weather almost the entire time which was not Carnivals fault but the whole boat smelling of sewer, the elevators not working half of the time, and people throwing up on the stairs and It getting left there were all very gross and off-putting. Our itinerary stated that we had an extra fee associated with the dining room we were assigned to and this being our first cruise, we spent every meal in the Lido buffet where the fool was golden corral quality at best. Cozumel was overpriced and the sales people were very aggressive and we had to pay a "fee" to enter a free beach. Every onboard activity was laced with a sales agenda and we were stuck on the boat an additional 9 hours due to "weather conditions". we paid over 150 in tips to people we never even met. I will say that our room steward was excellent, thoughtful, and friendly. I guess cruising is not for everyone. We drank a lot of overpriced alcohol and gambled in the casino where ashtrays were as esteemed as gold bricks but other than that, there did not seem like there was much else to do. I will never get on a boat the rest of my life but experienced cruisers told me that the cruise we were on was not typical of most cruises. I still feel traumatized from the fact that we couldnt just walk away when the going got rough and that is my opinion of this particular boat. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the high ratings the ship received for families. I have cruised with Carnival on different ships 2 other times as well as sailing with RCL and DCL. I booked the cruise as a gift to my husband for his 40th birthday. The ship had a scheduled dry dock which ended prior to this sailing. I thought that meant maintenance would be completed and the ship would be in top condition. Boy, was I mistaken. The first day of our cruise was cancelled as well as one of our 2 stops. We were notified of this while traveling from Michigan. We were offered the opportunity to cancel with a full refund which I thought was nice, however, I was just arriving into New Orleans and thought we could make the most of the trip. We planned on renting a car anyway to get from New Orleans to Mobile and had a hotel booked in Biloxi. We were compensated with $50 per person on board credit and one day of our cruise fare credited to the on board account. I was completely satisfied with this. We decided to book a room in Mobile for the night that we would have been on the ship. Choices were limited because of a football event happening in Mobile, but we stayed within walking distance to the terminal and the price was not too bad. The weather was cold and windy the day of embarkation, but my spirits were high because I knew it would get warmer as we headed to Mexico. Embarkation was extremely smooth. The best I have ever experienced. Everyone was helpful and friendly. We got right onto the ship with no wait and we carried our own luggage to our cabin. Some crew members even offered assistance to myself and my 8 year old daughter on the stairs which I thought was really great. Things started to go downhill as soon as we opened the door to our oceanview cabin. It was tiny. There was nowhere to sit. The bed took up most of the space. The one outlet available was positioned so that I could not use the adapter I brought to add outlets. The bathroom door would not latch nor would one closet door close. One closet had a bad odor. The window was so dirty with paint and caulk, it was depressing to look out. Plus the curtains and walls were stained. When the bed that folded out of the wall was put down, it overlapped the king size bed. A small cot was placed under that bed making it impossible to ever walk around the bed. Also making it so that one must be careful while crawling over the bed to get to the window so as to not hit the upper bed. The television was more like a small computer monitor. The bathroom and shower were good size, but the curtain would not stay attached and the water temperature was difficult to control. There is no counter space at all and very little bathroom storage. The hooks that are on the door are only about half inch so hanging items was also a challenge. The ship looked worn and numerous bathrooms on the lido deck and around the ship were not functioning. They were frequently found to be dirty and the toilets would not flush. Leaks from pipes were happening in several places. Painting was in progress throughout the cruise and the odor of paint thinner would sometimes be present in our cabin, which coupled with nausea from sea sickness, is even more unpleasant. The dining, however, really did impress me. I loved Guy's burgers and the buffet and deli were open so many hours with excellent food choices. We had anytime dining which worked out very well for us. The food was wonderful and the service was really great from a few servers. My kids used Camp Ocean and they really loved it. The camp counselors do a fantastic job and made it a point to make us feel special. Acitivities on the ship were pretty good. I wish there were more scheduled family activities and that the children's activity schedule was available on the Hub. I never made it to any shows, but I heard some were cancelled because of the amount of movement from the high swells we were experiencing for the majority of this cruise. Our cabin was cleaned one time throughout our entire trip. The beds for the children were left out throughout our sailing. I saw our steward one time on our first day. She welcomed us by telling us about the strict smoking policy. I explained that we do not smoke and hate the smell of smoke which I could smell strongly in the hallway. We were located across from a door that said "Crew Only" on it and that door was never fully closed. I believe the smoke smell was coming from there. During the night as the ship rocked significantly, the closet door would creak and the bathroom door had to be left open or it would swing open and closed. The weather was poor for most of the time which I know cannot be controlled. It probably impacted my perception of this cruise, but the ship was really in need of more refurbishment. We have decided that we will not sail with Carnival again based on this cruise. There were other things that were not great on this sailing, but I have listed the main problems. I know others on the ship were also disappointed. I consider myself pretty easy going and I don't like to complain, but this was really a bad cruise experience. Read Less

We usually go with a different cruise line but went with this trip because it was a family trip. Ship was dry docked for 2 weeks before this scheduled trip (Jan. 21st). They suffered a propulsion issue that canceled our first day be wise they couldn't get up to speed. We will be given credit for that day and were given an onboard $50 credit. They also took away Progreso port and gave us credit for port fees. Embarkation was relatively smooth despite all passengers being told to show up at the same time. Here comes my major problem with the trip. If it was dry docked and suffered this propulsion issue on the way back to Mobile, there is no way it was fixed properly because we had one of the roughest trips overnight. I had a room that looked out the back of the ship. The amount of vibrating was not normal. It could be felt all the way up to lido deck. Most passengers including my family were super sick. Vomit in hallways and on elevators. Beds sliding across the room. My kids and myself falling out of bed. Seriously scary. Water coming through the ceiling in the hallway draining into state rooms. Musty/mildew smell throughout the entire ship. The winds delayed us so much we got to our only stop late. No pools until the last day. No mini golf, waterslide only open a few hours. Ship did not feel stable despite sea being relatively calm for trip back. Maintenance crew was out and about doing things that should have been done in dry dock like painting and replacing stateroom carpet. No one ever did clean the carpet in the hallway under the leaking ceiling . After second day crew did not really care about trying to solve any problems while we were onboard. They spent their time preparing things for the next trip. This is fragmented and sort of out of order as I just got off ship this morning. The ship needs to be retired. It's not safe to be out if it's going to be tossed around like that. It obviously does not have the power or stamina to make it through a storm. Pick another ship!! Read Less

We chose the carnival fantasy simply because we saw good reviews on how it was a family style ship. To be honest, it was my first cruise but not my husband or daughters first cruise. Going off their previous experience, food was honestly mediocre. Very similar to Golden Coral, (if you like that kind of food then you’ll be satisfied. There wasn’t a big variety of things to have, such as for dinner it was the same food almost every night. We were expecting great food, we were hoping to at least have good quality food. The crew members were top notch, very friendly, kind and informative! The ship was very out of date, and not kept up well. The tube where the water comes out on the drink dispensers were brown/moldy. Not sure if there is even such thing as a health inspector on this cruise line. The ceiling was leaking in the food area and so there were buckets out catching the water while we all ate, not to mention the water dripping on my neck behind me that started. Next disappointment was when docking in new locations, the process is easy getting on and off, it just sucks that we don’t have much time doing the activity we paid so much money for. I hate to leave a semi “bad review” but I want people to be aware of the small things that matter when boarding a cruise ship with their families. This was more on the less expensive side when we booked, so I guess you get what you pay for. For the rest of my family, this was their first cruise and this cruise kind of let them down and possibly wouldn’t cruise again because of this “bad” experience. Unfortunately I can’t upload pics using my cellphone but trust me I have them all! Read Less

My husband and I planned a last minute cruise on Carnival Fantasy out of Mobile Al. I have cruised a couple of times before on Royal Caribbean and had a wonderful experience and this was my husbands first cruise so I was excited for him. The moment I got on the ship i thought what a disappointment. I knew the Fantasy was the oldest ship but I was hoping it was kept in better condition and it was not. It felt dirty to me and my husband like it had not been cleaned well. Our Cabin smelled like sewage when we entered. We had rusty water coming in our window. Curtain was old and falling down. On the top deck while sitting on bench looking out at water we noticed screws missing out of the railing and the top railing was flapping in wind. Whole thing is a rust bucket. We paid to have the internet and you couldn’t even use it. The food was bland to say the least sometimes even cold in the dining room. Poor few selections on buffets. Thank goodness for Guy’s Hamburger Restaraunt on board. Even the desert bars were very poor in taste and selection! One pool for 2600 people! One really good band on board. I hate this was my husbands first cruise experience! Hopefully I will be able to get him to go again but NEVER on Carnival! Don’t waste your money on this ship please! Had a nice excursion experience in Kozumel! Read Less

The staff and service on the ship is outstanding. They all work hard to try to please you. This is the redeeming quality of the ship. Everyone should make sure the staff is compensated by leaving gratuities on their bill. It isn't fair to remove them! This ship is way past due for a remodel. We were in a handicap room for my mother-in-law. Bathroom smelled like mold, exhaust wasn't working very well. I immediately reported. Our room steward worked diligently with maintenance to try to get it to smell better. They sprayed something on the mold and it made it livable, but in 2 days the smell was back. Maintenance attempted to repair the exhaust, but failed. They were several places in the common areas of the ship that smelled moldy also. They definitely have moisture issues that need to be addressed. My elderly mother-in-law didn't notice, but I did. So if you don't have a good sense of smell, you will be OK. Food was just OK. Mainly high calorie, high fat foods. You have to pay extra for a better cut of meat now - $20 per meal. The coffee shop has decent desserts for a reasonable price $2 - $3. Desserts in the dining room weren't that great. Ordered the chocolate melting cake the first night. It was served cold and wasn't very good cold. I didn't go on any excursions because of taking care of mother-in-law. There isn't much in the 2 ports if you don't go on an excursion. Cruise is geared for 20 - 30 year olds. Not much in the way of sofisticated enrichment programs. The 3 people that I was travelling with were disappointed that there wasn't an assigned time to meet other bridge players. We were also disappointed in the shows. They were about 30 minutes long, not the elaborated shows that we remembered from past Carnival cruises. Cruise Director works hard to make the cruise fun. It is just difficult for someone in a wheelchair or walker to get around on a large ship. I would not recommend. Spent so much time on board waiting on an elevator that we could fit into with her scooter. Read Less

I went on this cruise with friends to celebrate our 60th Birthdays. The food in The dining room was excellent, at Guys burgers, was very good. But the buffet and Mexican restaurant needed much improvement. The rooms could use updates along with all the bathrooms on the ship. The cruise director Benjamin and the guy in the piano bar were the best things about the whole cruise. I would never go in the Fantasy again. Dealing with drunk and disorderly guest was terrible. I guess these are cruises for younger people who like to stay drunk all of the time. I will say I was very pleased with how they handled the drunk and disorderly in a timely fashion. The room stewards were pleasant but not the best we have ever had on a cruise before. I was just overall disappointed in the ship and the condition it was in. Read Less

We had not cruised in a while and having previously been on about nine cruises in the past, including Fantasy, we decided to board her again. The boarding was almost uneventful; we could not park in the terminal but was sent three blocks away at the enormous costs of right at $100. We enjoyed the cruise as far as the food (was not as good as other cruises on Carnival) and just resting. Everything else was priced way too high. We did learn that the casino is designed to take every dollar... it has always been a bust for us. Will not be visiting the Carnival Casinos in the future. The worst thing we encountered was advertising a $5000 Bingo game. Sadly, once the tickets were purchased to play, they informed us that the prize would not be given unless someone filled up their card within 49 numbers. Using a computer program to determine the balls was met with great skepticism and concern (knowing that the program could be rigged). Sure enough, no one won the $5000 prize as advertised, and only awarded the winner with $170! If Carnival is going to operate like this, without integrity and honesty, we will be more hesitant in cruising with them in the future. Lastly, the Lido deck area with the pool was impossible to enjoy as all the lounge chairs were taken and children were allowed to run and over-take the pool. We attempted to visit the adult area (which had NO POOL) and all the lounge chairs were taken (did not have enough to accommodate adult passengers). Overall, the cruise on the Fantasy out of Mobile, Alabama was an expensive time to just relax. We enjoyed the food most of the time and trying to get a little sun... but that is all we were able to do. We left a bit disappointed. Read Less

Very 1st cruise and it was a disappointment. We paid for Faster to the Fun and it was probably worth it, but only if you were at the beginning of the line. Our board time was 11:30, but didn't actually get on the ship till 12:30. Sat waiting for "special parties" to get on. The food. Window's by the Sea buffet was no better than any casino buffet in Biloxi. The highlight of the Jubilee Room was our waiter. Guy's burgers were so greasy I think they used them in the engine room. The noise level on board ship was crazy. Everything played & sang as loud as possible. First two days the toilets didn't flush on our side of the deck. Room, not to mention the ship, is really old. Corners of wall panels peeling up. Plastic trim on window ledge bubbling off. Legs on stools & chair dusty. Carpet stained. I wouldn't want to count how many layers of paint are on that ship. Did enjoy the Karaoke & Casino. And our tour of Chichen Itza was everything we expected. We might try sailing again, but not on Carnival. Read Less

We had taken the carnival dream out of new orleans on this same itinerary...we thought. this cruise on this old boat out of mobile, al is a "whole 'nuther thang." don't plan on having your beverage package delivered or get anything but a soft drink or watered down "boat drink" until you are in international waters...this is alabama, after all. "junior suite" was about same size as simple balcony stateroom on larger boats like dream. v-cabins are on deck 11, which has only two elevators working (kinda)...the glass ones to the atrium that don't go to the gangplank or to medical! so, while there are two other full elevator banks forward which traverse all decks, carnival locks them out for the entire cruise including debarkation!!! think about that if you are in a wheelchair or have a sprained ankle or are trying to get you and your luggage to the debarkation deck when all 4 elevators on the floor are locked out! ...and the elevators in the atrium were a running joke from all aboard! they would just stop (not overloaded,) or doors would close, then open up for no reason whatsover, and do it over and over again, often catching people in the 'elevator jaws of death!" ---that line never failed to get a tired laugh from those poor souls just trying to get somewhere on the boat. Now...here is the real rub: we were supposed to have two shore days. but, when we received our 'updated' itinerary, we ended up arriving at the first stop at costa maya at one o'clock in the afternoon, leaving at 8 that night! we said, "ok, at least we have a whole day in cozumel..." but nooooooooooo. turns out we could get to cozumel by 8 am, but, we had to be back on boat no later than 3:30!!! this itinerary used to go out of new orleans using dream-class ships, and it was a very good trip (we took one last year,) with a good boat, and lots of time on shore days. fantasy is not that way! in fact, it seemed like they need to retire that old girl...it is just worn and unable to provide the product that people think they are buying. ...and if carnival can't live up to their "2 shore day" promise coming out of moblie, well...then they shouldn't advertise it. i may never cruise with carnival again...darn sure not out of mobile. We have sailed on Carnival several times and generally found them to be reasonable value. As a result we booked a post Christmas cruise with my son and his fiancee and future in- laws. The Cabins were OK, except that our TV went out on the 3rd day and was never fixed. We also like playing trivia but it couldn't have been located on the worst part of the ship -- right on a well traveled path, with smoke from the casino wafting over the four --yes, just four, tables allocated to this event. The person running, or trying to run the trivia, was great but intimated that the reason he was in the worst place for trivia, was "politics." Towards the end of the cruise my future daughter-in-law got sick and called the medical dept and was told there as no one there to help. They never returned the call. Turns out she had a nasty upper respiratory infection that potentially contaminated passengers and crew. There was a nice event to recognize veterans and current military, which applies to both my son and his fiancee. Patriotic gesture? Well, tainted by the fact that I learned that only 1% of the crew are American. I expressed these concerns in my rating sent to customer support a month ago but I have heard nothing and do not expect to do so. It's one thing to screw up, it's another not to care. To hell with the customer experience, is obviously Carnival's view. Of course they say the opposite but one thing I hate is hypocrisy. Read Less

I went to the lady's pajama party during the first sea day and bought their 75 minute spa package for $109. The package includes an eye collagen treatment. However I didn't get the eye collagen treatment during my sessions. Later I complained to spa manager Shomma. She said she will get back to me but she didn't. Then I talked to guest service Isabel on disembarkation day and ask for $20 credit which I think is very reasonable. They wouldn't do anything. They claimed that the eye collagen treatment was provided. Basically saying I lied. I really like the cruise director Mikey. He was funny and full of energy. He was very helpful with my shore excursion question. The burger on the ship was very very good. I also liked the dance performance put out by dinning room staff. The disembarkation process was smooth. However I didn't like the idea that we have to leave our room, wait in public area with our suitcase before disembarkation. Read Less

My better half and I booked a quick 4 day jaunt down to Cozumel out of Mobile on December 7-11. We could not have predicted the monster cold front and winter storm that would roll in the same evening and fully encompass the Gulf of Mexico in the grip of 50+ mph winds and steady cold rains. I'll admit this may have impacted my review somewhat. Being cooped inside for four days on an aging ship listening to constant announcements about how to donate more money to the parent company will tend to make one a little grouchy. Parking C+ We arrived just after 11am CST and were able to park quickly and efficiently. If you do not prepay online you must pay at a kiosk. Advisable to take a photo of your license plate beforehand unless you are Rain Man and have memorized it. The kiosk was not very user friendly but we got through the process unscathed. Onboarding/Embarkation B+ Nice folks throughout the process will guide you through the maze that leads to the check-in area. Don't try to sneak in any alcohol, this is not Carnival's first rodeo and they will find it (not speaking from past experience or anything..ahem). Even at this busy time we were onboard the ship within 15 minutes of paying for parking. A vast improvement over the 1-2 hour cattle calls of Carnival's earlier days. Public Areas B- This ship launched when Wilson Phillips was topping the charts, so keep that in mind. The atrium is actually very nice, albeit dressed in dated neon..but it is tasteful and the ship was decorated for Christmas (The Holidays if you are sensitive). The Promenade deck has a bland and seldom used disco, a phenomenally popular karaoke bar (great fun!), a comedy club that appeared thrown together as an afterthought and a casino which should provide it's patrons with free chest x-rays due to the lack of ventilation. Every smoker from Charleston to Corpus Christi was on this cruise and they were ALL gambling. Some wear could be observed around windows and mirrors but the ship looks very good for being 27. Dining areas were clean and well managed. Muster Drill D- Oh come on, have you ever been to one that wasn't an exercise in claustrophobia and and masochism? Drink liberally beforehand. Cabin C We had an Ocean View on Riviera Deck 4. Two twins beds that push together to make a queen. Nothing special. You don't cruise to stay in the room. Contrary to previous reviews, we did have a hair dryer in our room...so there's that. Bring your own toiletries, Carnival doesn't give you the abundant samples they once did. Or maybe Guy Fierri five-fingered them during a complementary tour...who knows. Dining B Speaking of Guy Fierri, oh my goodness the burgers are delicious! I had one every day for lunch and tried each variety. They are all great! Blue Iguana has tasty taco salads, burritos and the like with a broad selection of sauces and flavorings. The buffet food was okay...except for the desserts. Do yourself a favor and wait until dinner for dessert. We chose Your Time dining and enjoyed our meals in the Celebration Dining Room. Wait staff were friendly but hurried. Making them dance to Gangnam Style is ridiculous but I guess some folks enjoy it. We enjoyed chicken, escargot, mahi mahi, prime rib, etc. but gone are the days of chateaubriand and baked Alaska. Now the menu is more like a really nice Applebee's. Entertainment and Activities A- Karaoke was a blast and was always packed. The comedy shows were very, very funny and we sat through three in a row one night. I enjoyed the casino but basically lost my shirt, which I would have had to throw away anyway because I would never have gotten the smoke smell out. Our Cruise Director Mikey was omnipresent and engaged. Due to the weather, all activities and contests that would have been on the Lido Deck were instead held in the Atrium. Considering the situation, things went smoothly and entertainment value was not compromised Service B I have never had a complaint about service on 11 Carnival cruises. Everyone was wonderful again with one exception. There was a lady working at the Specialty Coffee bar who wasn't having a good day for two days in a row. Not rude just not at all friendly, unusual for this cruise line. Ports and Shore Excursions C Cozumel. Been there, done that, did it again, and again, and again. The weather did not cooperate and we have been here enough to be bored with it. We couldn't go to the beach so most of the afternoon was spent on deck trying to get a cloudtan in 35mph gusts. Disembarkation F Good God if there is anything that can make the Muster Drill seem like a week in Bora Bora it is disembarkation from a Carnival cruise. It took about 17 hours (okay, maybe two) and was disorganized and confusing. Yet even as you are finally walking off the ship ready to begin your long journey home there is Cruise Director Mikey, giving you a parade wave and a "Bye-Bye" to send you on your way. I've gotten a little jaded over the years. Carnival just isn't doing it for us anymore. It took four days of being stuck inside with no sunshine to make that abundantly clear. Your mileage may vary... Read Less

Went on the Fantasy because of going with friends: I did not expect much going in and that was exactly what I found. The cabin (ocean view, deck 6 mid-ship) was adequate for two adults, but old looking. Our cabinsteward, Trista, was the highlight of this cruise! He was awesome and worked very hard to make us happy.. I did not attend any of the evening shows as the lines were way to long to stand in. The trivia games were entertaining but need to be in another location. In front of the Bistro there is always foot traffic and talking which made it hard to hear. The art auctions were great as were the Park West staff. Now onto the food. Two words - not good. Lido buffet food was usually warm to cool, never hot. Had to wait for servers to serve many times. Desserts were mostly tasteless. Celebrations dining room - the service was very good. The food was warm to cold with few exceptions. I ordered steak from the steakhouse menu and it was burned and dry, the lobster tail was also over cooked and tough. Our shipmates agreed with me about the food. We did no ship excursions. The music is to loud almost everywhere on board ship. I might try another Carnival ship but never again will I sail on this one. Read Less

I am not a first time cruiser. My husband and I go yearly and sometimes multiple times during the year. This was our first Carnival cruise. I was traveling with a group of 34 adults for a fun filled cruise. There were approximately 22 first time cruisers with our group. The majority of the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. Guys Burger Bar was amazing and the Blue Iguana Mexican Café and Bar was everything. Absolutely fantastic. My biggest issue is that I do not smoke and nor does my husband as we both have Asthma and there was not many places on this ship that would allow us to sit and not have to smell cigarette smoke. We could not even sit at the coffee shop and have coffee. The night club was out, we walked in and had to immediately turn around as there was smokers everywhere. I understand smoking in the casino and on a specific deck as most other ships, but I have never been on a ship that allows smoking in the lounges, bars, clubs as well as the decks. Pretty much everywhere but the rooms. I realized that this is an older ship so I wasn't expecting all the bell and whistles that goes with the newer ships, but I was looking forward to having a relaxing time and enjoying the nightlife and that was not the case as they have no limits on smoking. Worst experience since we had a terrible bed. I was told the roll up bed will be comfortable but it wasn't. My 14 year old still has back pain because the bed was so bad. the springs were killing her back since the mattress was as thick as a piece o paper. They found another bed after we complain but also a terrible bed. It sagged in the middle so the also super thin mattress sagged down creating a big hole right where your back would be when laying. The cabin was dirty. The walls had black marks and sticky finger prints. The shower ceiling was black with Mold. Entertainment was mostly at night. No much to do during the day. Smokers and drinkers pretty much took over the areas where the fun was before 6 pm The food was not that great either. Customer service is not their priority. Don't expect solution to any problem you may encounter. Read Less

Was on this cruise because my husband was speaking to a business group on the cruise. This was our first Carnival cruise, but not our first cruise. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean previously. From the start, it was clear the Fantasy is an old ship that is ready for retirement. There is visible rust everywhere and pretty much all parts of the ship have very visible age and wear. My favorite part of cruising is the food and I was terribly disappointed in the Fantasy's food offerings. The food in the main dining room is nothing I would pay for off of the ship or ever want to have again. I even opted to pay for a surf and turf on formal night (because you can't get a steak or lobster tail without paying) and it wasn't worth the $20 I paid. The only other dining options are the "buffet," Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana, or room service. Guy's Burgers was by far the tastiest option on the ship, but the burgers were super greasy and the lines were always super long. Blue Iguana only had chicken tacos and taco salads, despite the sign that said "Burritos Aqui." I had tacos and they were ok. The "buffet" had constant lines and the food was just ok. With room service, you can only get a few things for free and those things are like a grilled cheese, pb&j or tuna salad sandwich. Everything else costs money and there's nothing offered that is worth paying for. Everything we had on the ship was underseasoned or not seasoned at all. The few bars on this ship always have a line and wait because they are severely understaffed at all times. It makes no sense to me that Carnival would only put one and two bartenders at the only two bars on the deck with the ONLY pool on the whole ship, but each day this is what happened. This caused us to have to wait at least 5 minutes every time we wanted a drink, which doesn't seem like a lot, but it is if you are trying to enjoy a cruise and not stand in a stinky bar line. Also, there was an overpowering sour smell at all times surrounding the lido deck, especially in the bar areas. There were servers walking around the pool deck, but the service was so slow you had to go get your own drink if you wanted it within 30-45 minutes. We were in a suite and the size was great, of course, but everything else was just ok. Certainly nothing to pay extra for since you don't even get any special perks except for priority boarding and disembarkation. Very disappointing. If you have never cruised before and you're looking for the cheapest cruise possible, then you may enjoy the Fantasy. If you have ever cruised before and/or expect good food and service, then pick another ship/cruise line. Read Less

well it was our first cruise, for our anniversary, and my wifes birthday. we quickly found that if we were not drinking not a single crew member would speak to us. this was the entire duration of the cruise. food an the fantasy was very poor, restaurant service was horrible, we tried once and never went back....over the course of this last year though, I have been climbing the corporate ladder at Carnival Cruise Lines.. and once reaching three steps from the very very top of that ladder. they have gone out of their way to fix things....we have book another cruise out of New Orleans on Dec. 9 going to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel on the Carnival Dream. WE will write another review, and post video reviews over every venue on the ship.....look for that. , we want to reserve opinion because we left the fantasy so angry. so we will try the Carnival Dream with the video reviews of the entire ships experience. We went on a scrapbooking themed cruise on the Fantasy, leaving from Mobile. The ship was delayed coming in 27 hours due to weather and we left 27 hours late. We were promised a full day of cruising refund but we found out the hard way that the refund did not include any prorating of our $393.34 in port fees, taxes, or other fees. This makes zero sense to me since our docking in Cozumel was cancelled. I guess Carnival pays Cozumel zero port fees. I did not get the automatic prorated refund for pre-paid gratuities credited as a refundable credit to my on-board ship account that I was supposed to get so I called and spent an hour on the phone arguing that I never got it and they finally agreed I had not gotten it and so they are mailing a check in 2-3 weeks. Then there was the onboard ship account mess in addition to not getting the prepaid gratuities refund. I downloaded Carnival's cruise app where one is supposed to be able keep up with one's onboard charges. Half the time it did not work. When the account part of the app worked, it worked well and was accurate. However, the last night of the cruise, a piece of paper detailing my charges and credits was slipped under the door that totally disagreed with the online app. So I went to Guest Services and they looked it up and decided the app was right but not the last night paper statement. This was the only positive experience I had with Fantasy's Guest Services. The morning on board the ship, we heard hammering or something right below our cabin from about 6 am to 6:45 am. I went to guest services about 7:15 am and there was noone there and no sign saying they would open or be back at a certain time. So I yelled to see if there was anybody and back. After the third holler, someone came out. I was told they could do nothing about the hammering because I did not report it while it was going on. If it happened again, I should call. So the next morning when it happened again, I called guest services from my cabin and guess what? They did not answer! I hung up, waited a few minutes and called again and again no answer. Shame on you Fantasy Guest Services and Shame on the very noisy Fantasy crew who bang and make all kinds of noises when people should be sleeping. There were many more problems with this stupid cruise, and I will try to think of a few more of them. When we got to the cruise terminal, there was about a 30-40 minute line of cars outside backed up into the street trying to get into the parking garage. Once we finally got our luggage turned over to a porter and parked, I, who have a handicapped hangtag, had to stand in line with everyone else in the garage for 45 minutes just for the privilege to ride up an escalator to another long line. At this point, I spotted some wheelchairs that I had not seen before and asked for one and was told I did not need one anymore because the lines upstairs for security were real short. So we went up the escalator to security and there were horrible lines. So I asked again for a wheelchair. I wanted over 20 minutes for a wheelchair. After we got through security and signed in, I was pushed up a very, very long ramp and taken to my room by a very nice young man. But the whole ordeal of parking and boarding took over 2 hours. Oh, and by the way, there is a shortage of handicapped parking spots. Our cruise was cut from 2 1/2 days at sea and 2 ports to 2 1/2 days at sea and 1 port. Despite this, Carnival closed the pool on the last day at sea and there was very little to do except eat, drink alcohol, gamble, and play bingo. Shame on Carnival for closing the pool without telling anybody you were going to! Somebody told me Carnival does it on all cruises to clean the pool but I didn't know they were going to do it. I have been on 3 other cruises, twice on Royal Caribbean, and once over 10 years ago on Carnival and this was by far the worst. On the other cruises, the cruise line had interesting speakers who gave programs on board about the natural history or history of our destination, but Fantasy had not interesting programs like that. As for the food, my daughter said she thought the Fantasy had a theme for their food, "dry cake." Except for one night serving of Tiramisu that was tasty and moist, she and I agreed that all of their cakes were very dry and therefore not as tasty as they might have been. Carnival should serve a wider variety of desserts, especially on their buffet, such as some pies or cobblers. On the one night we had in port in Progresso, we decided to try the buffet instead of 6 pm dinner reservation and were dissappointe to get to the Lido buffet and find it there was only one hot line and it was very long. Why? This seems like a very bad management decision. Even in the mornings when they have two hot buffet lines the lines are long so why ever go down to one? Hopefully this is the last complaint, cabins are real small but bathroom not too small and they need to update the cabin to have more than one outlet for recharging multiple phones and cameras. My daughter were fighting over the outlet. And I had to get my daughter to stand on my bed to reach the air conditioning vent to adjust the air flow coming out directly over my bed since I have mobility problems and didn't dare. I'll stop there. You get the picture. Messy accounting, deplorable refund practices, horrible embarkation practices, terrible Guest Services, cabins clean but need modernizing. Since my mother told me never to say anything bad if I couldn't say anything good, I will list a few pluses: clean and neat cabins, very nice and caring personnel on board the ship except for Guest Services, good buffet breakfasts in the Lido buffet although lines a little long and having to share tables with strangers. But sharing a table with a stranger can be turned into a plus. Read Less
