This was my 11th cruise. On each cruise, I get an ornament size miniature of the ship. Fantasy only had the key chain size. I get the bigger dark blue coffee cups, fantasy did not have them. They didn't have Marlboro in the 100's. Oh, well ! All the black jack dealers were not aware of the rules. Plus the tournament was not played correctly. Did not affect the results. I lost. lol The food at the dining room was so so. Guys burgers was good. The buffet was good. Carnival needs to invest more into maintaining the ship. Too much exposed rust, one wooden railing had bare wood showing. But this doesn't affect my enjoyment. I was concerned about bad language and behavior, but that wasn't the case. I met more folks than on a seven night cruise. There is only one small outdoor smoking area ( deck 11 ), but not a problem. The Bama fans were loud on game day, amusing. Overall, I enjoyed the cruise very much. I will go again. Carnival will be doing a repostioning of the ships, need to wait to see if this ship will still be home ported at Mobile. Read Less

Embarkation in Mobile is not as easy as it used to be, but everyone was friendly and helpful. Lines moved pretty quickly. Our room was ready at 1.30, like usual. We had a handicap room and were pleased with the accessibility of the shower. There was plenty of storage, but not in the bathroom. Dining at the Celebration DR was nice. Good food. I have the waiter order for me. Wi, our waiter, and his staff were diligent and attentive. Entertainment was pretty good. Shows were fun. Singers, Connecting Souls, were great. We spent most of our time at the Atrium bar where Iko and Pinky attended the bar there and are terrific. Even though the Fantasy is the smallest and oldest ship in the fleet, we found everything immaculate, in good working order and a fantastic crew. There is only one pool and it was always very, very crowded. Everyone was helpful, from the Guest services desk(Florita) to the ladies at the Celebration DR. I would definitely go on this ship again, but schedule while school is in session. Read Less

My husband and I have taken four cruises together (including the honeymoon that became the reason for my screen name), but our 2 children had never been. We really wanted to introduce them to cruising and hoped they would love it as much as we do! We chose the Carnival Fantasy because Mobile is the most convenient port to us, being only a short 5 hour drive away. The kids were out of school for Labor Day, so less missed days. And the cruise was very reasonably priced which helped make the decision easy! Our kids were 5 and 2 at the time of travel and they LOVED our cruise. The staff was wonderful with them and made them feel like royalty. Both kids were excited to go to Camp Carnival (the fact that 2 year olds can use the kid’s clubs on Carnival is definitely a point in their favor!). Water Works was a huge draw for the kids, although my 2 year old was sad not to be big enough for the slides. Both kids wanted to play in the pool, but were disappointed by how small it was. So it was nice to have Water Works to make up for that. The food was very good in the main dining room, but we felt the buffet was somewhat lacking. Blue Iguana and Guy’s were both excellent. The kids actually really enjoyed going to the main dining room. The Seuss breakfast was awesome - food and characters were both wonderful! We did the Carnival sponsored Isla Pasion excursion and is was wonderful. The island is stunningly beautiful and we enjoyed playing in the sand and splashing in the water. The food was also very good, although there was not a huge selection. I only wish we had longer at the island. Overall, I think this was a great first cruise for those with small kids to “test out the waters” (pun intended)! Four days was a nice starter length and we loved having multiple sea days to really explore all the boat had to offer. Read Less

We basically decided at the last minute to go. We just cruised on the Dream in July (Incredible) and wanted to squeeze another one in. The price was good, but after boarding I saw why the Dream was more expensive. The Fantasy is extremely outdated putting it politely. For starters, the mold smell can be overwhelming at times. We enjoyed the piano bar on the Dream and we were excited to check this one out. There were a couple of issues with it. First the moldy smell in there was terrible. We stayed for a couple minutes and didn't return. And to go along with that, the guy playing was a complete ass to anyone requesting a song. He said "it's my club and I'll play what I want, Im not taking any requests". Enough on that. The next issue was the flooding in the bathroom. As ithe water went down the drain in the shower, it came right back up from the other drain in the bathroom. Unacceptable. The curtains in the Celebration Dining room are torn, full of holes and falling down. BEWARE OF THE FRIED CHICKEN. Absolutely disgusting. The shows on the Fantasy were not even close in quality to the Dream. I will say the Love and Marriage show was outstanding because of the participants and cruise director Shea's interaction with them. As for the comedy show, The Cowboy Comedian was absolutely hilarious. His shows were always new and off the wall. His interaction with the crowd was great. The pool was great! I also want to say we had absolutely perfect service from our waiter Nigel. Whether in the pool or the clubs he was ALWAYS there to get us anything we needed. I can't thank him enough for how great he took care of our group. He alone made the trip worth going on. If you decide to go, find him, you wont be disappointed. Tell him 5516 sent ya. I also want to give a shout out to Shea for doing a great job filling in the the normal cruise director. The last thing I want to make everyone aware of is the Mobile terminal. It is absolutely pure chaos. First the police officer near the entrance was a complete smart ass. Just to enter the parking garage you have to make an illegal u turn just to enter. Once inside, you will notice every employee has a terrible attitude. The employees have no clue what they are doing. One would send us to one door, once entering the next employee is screaming at us for coming in the wrong door the first idiot just told us to use. Be prepared to be frustrated at the terminal. All in all we meet some new friends and have all already booked a cruise together for next Labor Day weekend on the Dream. Read Less

This cruise was a last minute decision. It was either rent a condo on the beach or take a five day cruise. With no groceries to buy, no cooking and cleaning, no beds to make, and no towels to wash and dry, my wife voted for the cruise; I wholeheartedly agreed. We spent the night before the cruise at the Renaissance Riverview hotel across from the port. The Cruise& Park rate including tax is $167. This includes free parking for the length of the cruise and a van to take you to the port and return you to the hotel. If you park at the port, it will cost $20/day. So, that makes the room at the hotel $67/night. Now to the cruise: Embarkation was quick; once the long train that blocked the access to the port had cleared and the Customs officials could get to the port to disembark the previous cruisers. This delayed us about an hour; but the shuttle from the hotel waited for the train to move and then took us over. Once in the terminal, checking in was quick. A tip: if you have a carry-on and are not Platinum or above, you may have to roll it around while you eat lunch. Or you may opt for only carrying the valuables and essentials in a small backpack or for the ladies, a small beach bag until you can drop them off in your cabin.. The ship is OLD. That being said, she looked pretty good for her age. She had a few wrinkles of rust showing. Once onboard, the atrium, the hallways, the dining rooms, the pool and hot tubs and the lido deck in general showed that the interior had been updated. Our cabin was a sea view on the Main deck. The carpet and the furniture had no signs of wear and the bed was quite comfortable. Our steward, Muz was very efficient and pleasant. We asked for ice on the first day and the bucket was refreshed each day. The food: The food in the buffet was fine. If you want eggs that are real eggs, go to the Omelet Station (After breakfast, it becomes the Deli). For the remainder of choices for breakfast, if you can't find something appealing, you probably shouldn't be eating breakfast in the buffet. For lunch, the buffet has hot entrees, salads, and desserts. Additionally there are self-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt machines in the buffet. Out by the pool, there is a Guy Fieri's hamburger station on the starboard side, a mini buffet in the center, and a burrito/taco station on the port side. The burgers and fries were wonderful as were the burritos. Most surprising to my wife and I was the food in the main dining room. Rarely have we eaten every dinner in there on any ship or any cruise. However, the menu was so appealing that we dressed appropriately to be presentable for admission. My wife commented that it was worth the effort to have the food served rather than wander around the buffet looking for an entrée and sides. We found the food rivaling that on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and other Carnival ships. We have cruised forty-two times, mostly on Royal Caribbean and Carnival; so I believe that we can make this statement fairly objectively. As for the service, it too was top notch. Our servers were from Jamaica and Indonesia and they were two of the most attentive waitstaff that we have encountered. We chose Anytime dining and had to wait to be seat a few times; never more than 15 minutes. The Serenity section on the stern of the ship is quiet and reserved for adults The only downside is the lack of a pool and being blocked from a breeze by the upper decks. The spa is typical of all ships. Variety of services and products; all with a premium price. The Gym isn't Golds, but one can still find enough equipment to work out. Lastly, a few negatives. We never saw the captain; not walking around on the Lido nor be present at the reception for the Platinum and Diamond cruisers. The cruise director was not great by any means. She tried but did not give off a warm and fuzzy feeling to the passengers. She also made her announcement that must have had the PA system at maximum volume. There were a LOT of cruisers with their hands over their ears to keep the ear drums intact. Finally, the shows in the main theatre were, at best lacking. Including towel animals in the production did not impress the adults. Several left within ten minutes of the show beginning. In conclusion, if you want a luxury cruise with a lot of bells and whistles, this ain't it. If you want an inexpensive cruise with a friendly and helpful crew, wonderful food, and great service, I recommend it. It IS an old ship; the oldest in the fleet, but it still suitably maintains its aesthetics and a super crew. Read Less

This cruise was my 8th cruise. I have gone on some of the newer boats as well as some of the older Fantasy class ships. This was a family vacation with my husband, almost 2 year old, my mother and 2 friends. This was our first time driving to a port as we usually fly. But Mobile was about a 6 hour trip so we drove. Mobile was also the most disorganized port I've been to. We were told that the Fantasy was an hour late getting back to port and so that there were delays with getting on the ship, which could explain some of the disorganization but not all. The staff were no help at all and we stood in long, unorganized lines until a loud and very rude lady who told me she "ran the place" came and started yelling at us for forming a line that was blocking the traffic in the parking garage. However two other workers just stood and watched us form the line without giving us any direction on where we should stand. To make a long story short it was all a mess. And the lady was very rude and inconsiderate and if she really is the one who is supposed to be running the whole operation I see why it was such a mess. Once we finally got inside things were much better and people were nicer. And the process of getting our room keys was fast and easy. Once we got to our room we noticed that the crib that we had requested wasn't in the room and our room steward Elfreda was great and called for them to bring one. The boat is noticably old and in need of repair. But it was kept very clean. The staff was great and always smiling. We had your time dining in the Celebration Dining room and Delroy and his team were great. We appreciated that they brought our daughter's food out first without us even having to ask. The only issue we had was that our friends stateroom was extremely hot with no working A/C and smelt of gasoline. After two nights they were switched to another room. We also smelt gasoline at times in the hallways. We only went to one show "The Brits" me and my husband stayed for 10 minutes and then left for karaoke which was more entertaining in our opinion. The show was very cheesy and the singing and dancing not very strong compared to other cruises I've been on. The food was good, but the desserts were not impressive. We went to Costa Maya and Cozumel. Costa Maya we didn't do an excursion, just shopped around the port. Cozumel we did the Catamaran sail and snorkel and beach. It was great. The beach was beautiful and the snorkeling was fun. They had free drinks which were watered down. But we aren't big alcohol drinkers and brought our own bottled water so we didn't care. The staff was very nice and we're very serious about safety. They take pictures during the excursion and sell them to you on the way back, $12 each. Disembarkation was equally as chaotic as embarkation. Once we got our bags a worker came up and asked us if we had passports, we told her we all did except for my daughter who had a birth certificate and she said that was okay. She led us to a shorter "passport" line when the same rude lady from embarkation came up to us. Apparently we couldn't go through the passport line with a birth certificate. Which is fine. But the fact that were given wrong information was frustrating. We only were trying that line because a worker came up to us and told us it would be okay. It didn't help that they only had 3 people checking passports/birth certificates which made the line move slow. It's interesting that a port with only 1 ship, the smallest one at that, is the slowest and most disorganized one I've been through. All in all it was a good cruise. The boat didn't have a lot the new upgrades and is in need of some TLC. But the staff made it great. Everyone was great with my daughter. I think I would go again. I heard she was being dry docked in January 2019 so curious to see if she gets some upgrades. I've never bought Faster to the Fun but I definitely wished I had it for this cruise due to the disorganized port! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we booked last minute and the price was good. We had gone on the triumph less than a year ago and the experience was much more Pleasurable. To make a long story short all my little boy cared about was going on the water slides. they said my son (4years of age)did not meet the 42 inch height requirement of the water slides. I measured him 2 days before we left myself to verify he met the height requirement which he did. The slide attendants said he did not he could not slide. Remembering that he could ride all slides a year ago while he was only 3 on the triumph, I asked to speak with someone and waited where they asked for an hour and no one showed. Instead of getting my family all worked up on day 1 I decided to let it go. So we went to the 1 tiny pool where he was not enogh room to play or swim so we got out. The kids camp was okay. Again the triumph was larger and the kids camp a lot nicer with staff that seemed more excited to greet him upon arrival. The ship is outdated. The dining staff, bartenders, steward etc were great. Had a setback at excursion desk. We booked an excursion through carnival called the Mayan welness experience and when we Arrived were told the power went out. It includes a swim with the stingrays. But it was filled with trash and could t do that either. So basically while waiting for them to figure out what to do we were stuck at the beach ordering $10 Drinks. The cruise line said they would not refund any of the money because it said we received our services which wasn’t true. We had 2 options to choose from which was get on a bus and go to a beach (it was not an option because we didn’t want to venture off without our little one) or get a massage. The massage was fine but I could have gotten that anywhere. I would have rather gotten a refund. After Much complaining and the desk attendant rolling her eyes I was able to get 30%off. All in all, if someone paid for my cruise in its entirety I would not go back on this BOAT. The best part of the trip was going to Mr Sancho´s which I bookedyself outside of carnival. Read Less

We just returned from a 4-day cruise on the Carnival Fantasy from Mobile, AL (8/16-8/20). My 8 y/o daughter has several food allergies, including dairy, peanuts, and seafood. So Dragana assisted us in pre-ordering her meals. However, on Saturday 8/18/18 in the Celebration Dining Room, my daughter was served a dessert item containing heavy cream. After a few bites, she told me she thought she was having an allergic reaction, then vomited at the table. We were unaware at that moment that she had consumed any dairy. I rushed her to our cabin to give her Benadryl, while my husband and 2 other children stayed to speak to supervisor. When we got to the cabin, she vomited again. At that time, I noticed swelling to her bottom lip. Her throat was still patent. I immediately called the medical center - no answer. I called Guest Services - no answer. I finally called 911 and told them my daughter was having an allergic reaction. I was instructed to bring her down to the medical center (instead of someone coming up to check her). My family arrived at our cabin at that time and my husband carried her to the medical center (@2115). Her vital signs were stable and her lip swelling improved but was still present. Alan gave us Benadryl to administer every 6 hours. After assessing my daughter again and seeing that she was stable, my husband and I proceeded to Guest Services where we spoke with Tamara (@2150). She said she would open an incident report, but she was "not allowed" to give us a copy. The only documentation I received was a letter the following morning with a case number. There is no way I can verify the accuracy of the report without reading it. After Guest Services, my husband and I returned to the Celebration Dining Room and spoke to Andrei, the matre d (@2200). I wanted to know how my daughter was served food containing dairy when we specifically informed the dining crew of her allergies. Andrei was apologetic and said that there was a meeting about this incident happening. I was so angry and frustrated that I started crying and could no longer speak. I don't even remember what was said. But Andrei gave my husband his contact information and we left. On Sunday 8/19/18, Silvestre called our cabin @1130. He was very apologetic and empathetic. He said that at the meeting, it was discovered that it was "human error" that caused this incident. He wanted to set up dinner for us that night at the Celebration Dining Room. But my daughter was already scared to go back there. If we had a choice, we would not eat at any restaurant on the ship. But we have to eat. So he set up dinner at the Jubilee Dining Room. We were seated (@2020) and Dragana came over to our table and oversaw my daughter's meal. Genaro and Edi were our servers. Genaro was friendly and attentive. My daughter requested bacon bits to put on top of her mashed potatoes. Edi came over with the bacon bits and placed some on my sons' mac n cheese. As he was placing it, he slid the bottom of the spoon across the mac n cheese. Edi proceeded to put bacon on my daughter's potatoes, but I asked for new bacon since the spoon had touched the cheese. Apparently, there was some confusion between the waiters as to why I didn't want that specific bowl of bacon to be given to my daughter. My husband explained it in our language and it was addressed appropriately. We ate at the Jubilee Dining room for breakfast on 8/20/18 and Gilda oversaw my daughter's meal. We did not have any issues that morning. The first night 8/16/18, we ate at the Lido buffet and had asked which products contained dairy, nuts, or seafood. One of the servers told me that the only food that did not contain dairy was the bread. So I got some bread for my daughter. Luckily, she did not eat it because it in fact contained dairy. This is the first night I spoke with Dragana, who was extremely helpful and kind. She was great in helping us set up my daughter's meals and was very empathetic after the incident. We are still angry that my daughter was served dairy after specifically requesting her meals in advance. Fortunately, she speaks up if she feels any symptoms. But unfortunately, she has learned to trust no one. I don't feel that your dining staff has enough education pertaining to food allergies. It is difficult to understand if you or someone close to you does not have to deal with it or if you have never witnessed an allergic reaction. It can turn life-threatening in the blink of an eye. Sadly, my daughter is aware that she could have died from her allergic reaction and is so scared that she does not want to return to any cruise ship ever again. Despite having fun otherwise, she is terrified of eating any food on the ship. And she is only 8 years old. The staff hurt my daughter, physically and emotionally, as well as my entire family. My husband and my adult sons were in tears. Read Less

The staff and service on the ship is outstanding. They all work hard to try to please you. This is the redeeming quality of the ship. Everyone should make sure the staff is compensated by leaving gratuities on their bill. It isn't fair to remove them! This ship is way past due for a remodel. We were in a handicap room for my mother-in-law. Bathroom smelled like mold, exhaust wasn't working very well. I immediately reported. Our room steward worked diligently with maintenance to try to get it to smell better. They sprayed something on the mold and it made it livable, but in 2 days the smell was back. Maintenance attempted to repair the exhaust, but failed. They were several places in the common areas of the ship that smelled moldy also. They definitely have moisture issues that need to be addressed. My elderly mother-in-law didn't notice, but I did. So if you don't have a good sense of smell, you will be OK. Food was just OK. Mainly high calorie, high fat foods. You have to pay extra for a better cut of meat now - $20 per meal. The coffee shop has decent desserts for a reasonable price $2 - $3. Desserts in the dining room weren't that great. Ordered the chocolate melting cake the first night. It was served cold and wasn't very good cold. I didn't go on any excursions because of taking care of mother-in-law. There isn't much in the 2 ports if you don't go on an excursion. Cruise is geared for 20 - 30 year olds. Not much in the way of sofisticated enrichment programs. The 3 people that I was travelling with were disappointed that there wasn't an assigned time to meet other bridge players. We were also disappointed in the shows. They were about 30 minutes long, not the elaborated shows that we remembered from past Carnival cruises. Cruise Director works hard to make the cruise fun. It is just difficult for someone in a wheelchair or walker to get around on a large ship. I would not recommend. Spent so much time on board waiting on an elevator that we could fit into with her scooter. Read Less

This was our third cruise all with Carnival. Our first was Liberty and second was Triumph. All of them were pretty great in their own way. The Triumph had a bad sewage smell but we still enjoyed ourselves. Now on to Carnival Fantasy. It was the smallest and oldest we have been on but there are advantages to that. The lines were not really long for the restaurant's on the Lido deck. All of the other cruises we had long lines. I don't know if it was how they had it set up or because this was a smaller boat. We had dinner in the Celebration Dining Room every night and although we never had to wait when we would leave we would see long lines and people being given beepers. We had the Your Time to Dine but we always went about 5:45pm. All of the food was amazing. The service exceptional. I had read complaints about the cabins being hot but that was not the case with our cabin. We were in R149 and our sons in R147. The air vent is on the ceiling and it blew really cold. I personally sleep better when I'm cold so I was happy. The pillows and bed were ok but nothing is like your own bed and pillows. We planned an excursion to the Mayan Kingdom waterpark. When we arrived in port it was raining but we though hey we are going to get wet anyway so why not? So we headed down the pier and it began to pour. A lot of people turned around and headed back but we kept going. The rain did stop and the sun came out. We got to the water park and headed into the building that holds the water slide and zip lines. I read they had an elevator so I was good with this. Well the elevator was out of order. I'm 50 and overweight there was just no way I could climb all the stairs. So I found a chair at the kiddo pool and just relaxed. It was still a good day although a waste of money for me. The kids and husband had a good time. The next excursion was Isle of Passion. It's a 45 minute boat ride to the island. It is beautiful there. Our guides were awesome. The water although beautiful had a lot of seaweed stirred up recently and that did kind of gross me out but I didn't let it stop me from going in. There was buffet that was provided in with the costs and it was decent. The food is better on the boat but this was ok. Another 45 minutes back to Port where you can do shopping if you aren't too hot and too tired. I was both and when I saw the long lines to check out I decided I was ready to go. All in all it was a great day. We did see several of the shows. Love and Marriage is always great. We watched Motor City it was pretty good especially if you like old Motown songs. We played trivia several times. We played some family games in the library. We did visit the casino every day. Be sure to put a limit on your daily spending and keep to it. Do yourself a favor and if you do win, cash out and go pull up your account on the Kiosk and pay on your bill. That bill can be scary on the last night of your cruise. We did not try out the pool or the water slide. The pool is always full and none of us were interested in the waterslide. Also, I need to mention smoking. It is hard to find anyone telling smokers where the smoking area is. So yes I am a smoker and it is the first place I look for. On this ship it is one stair up past the pool on your left. (Sorry I can't tell you port side or anything because I'm pretty new at this) Also, there is smoking in the casino. Please be aware that until you leave port or on the day you arrive back in port there is usually no smoking outside. You must go to the casino. Embarkation was great. We parked easily and went smoothly through the line. The whole process was at the most 30 minutes. Debarkation was a nightmare to me. On the other cruises they let the people who don't have checked baggage off early. The other two cruises debarkation was about 8:30am but we got off both around 8:00am. This time they did do that but it was by decks. The process started on time at 8:30am but we didn't get off until 10:00am. We waiting in the checkpoint line a long time also. Their was a guy holding up the line who didn't have the proper paperwork. We had a great time on all of cruises. This one was just as good as the others. The ship is old but still looks great. If you are looking for negative things you can find it but I'm a very positive person and it takes something really bad to set me off. I only got annoyed on two occasions and both were due to drunk people. One who decided to sit on our row and decided to enter from our end when the other end was clear. The lady stepped on my toe, didn't apologize and then didn't even stay on our row. She was drunk and moved three more times. The other time was on our boat ride back from Passion Isle. There were free drinks there and a lot of people took advantage of it. They were loud and obnoxious. The boat ride back didn't have much air flowing so it was hot also. I understand that drinking is one of the reasons people go on cruises and while it annoyed me I was still ok with it because I did expect it. Thanks for your time. Read Less

Our room was always clean and we always had clean towels. The food was good but we just wish there could have been more selections to choose from. Also we enjoyed going to Serenity to get away and relax. I do have to point out some things that could use some improvement. There is only one swimming pool for over 2,000 passengers. We never were able to go swimming because the pool was always over crowded with kids and teenagers and so were the hot tubs. There should be at least three olympic size swimming pools on the ship. Grown ups like to go swimming too. There should have been more activities for grown ups. It's great that there is a lot of entertainment for the kids and teenagers but about the only option for adults is the casino. Since neither of us are into gambling, there wasn't much to do. Even the night clubs are geared for the younger crowd. How about a ballroom where you can dance with your partner to romantic music? Adults need to have some of it as well. Also, the basic package should include a bit more and the site should be a bit clearer on what it does and does not cover. When we booked, our understanding of the trip was that, when we were in port, there would be easily accessible beaches for the passengers to visit. It wasn't until we were onboard that we learned that these beaches could only be reached by booking a shore excursion. Which, of course, cost extra! The menu needs to be extended and there should be more of a beverage choice. And the prices of alcohol drinks need to be reduced. We paid $1,200 for this cruise so we feel that we should have gotten a lot more in the package. But since this was our very first cruise we still had a good time. Read Less

We recently returned from a 4 night on the Carnival Fantasy. We have always done the bigger newer ships Freedom class and Dream class. This ship was commissioned in 1990 so it is older. There are no refrigerators in the room and we did an upper/lower stateroom and it wasn't bad. Shout out to Phillip the bartender, Jacky the drink server and Benjamin the cruise director. Of course service all over the ship was awesome. I had the most enjoyable night at Cats doing karaoke. . It was the smoothest ran karaoke I've seen period. I didnt catch his name running it nor did I catch the single guitarist name that was so great. I would recommend trying the smaller ships.. I loved it.. so personable.. however, its older, smaller older not as many different types of things to do, but wow. I would also say for those new to cruising, try a larger ship 1st. Four nights is really short too, but it fit perfectly in for us. We had great time at Cozumel and really wasn't expecting it, well, after we past the cab and vendors ect.. Sunset was right on the Gulf, small, personable, great snorkeling for me and good food and drink.. much less expensive than other alternatives and it was a short walk from the cruise ship Read Less

So we just returned from a cruise on the Fantasy. We experienced both positive and negative aspects of the ship and staff: PROS: 1) friendly staff. We rarely encountered our steward and didn’t need any additional assistance, but it was nice to have the bed made and clean towels. The staff was nice and it was apparent that they kept the ship clean despite its shortcomings. 2) delicious food. The dining room had great selections. We are huge fans of the American Table series. There were a few duds, but the crab cakes were delicious!!!! 3) bartenders. The bartenders at the atrium bar were attentive and remembered our specific preferences. CONS 1) the ship is gross. The ship is the oldest in the fleet and it shows. The seats in the universe lounge have a musty smell and the rooms need serious TLC. The fake wood contact paper was peeling. There were poorly repaired holes in the walls. There was a red chair rail that runs the length of the room (I think to disguise cords for the lights, maybe). Under this the wall was moldy and disgusting. This was about 2 feet from my face as I slept so I felt gross. The bathrooms need a deep clean/refurb. When it dry docks in January I TRULY hope they completely gut the rooms because they need it! 2) our room stunk. Our room always smelled like fuel or sewage. According to a mechanic, this was due to the opening of the lines and could not be avoided. If you’re around the middle of the ship, you may experience this. Pretty bad- we knew we were getting close to our room from about 50 feet out. 3) sometimes there isn’t a lot going on. I wish there were more shows or offerings. We didn’t want to play bingo or go to arthritis seminars so sometimes there were limited offerings. Overall, we had a good time, I just wish the ship was in better shape. We may wait and see what the repairs look like or use another carrier out of mobile. This boat is not for us as it currently stands. Carnival- PLEASE make this ship clean and updated! Its sooo rusty and old when compared to others docked in Cozumel! Read Less

I love Carnival, but this cruise was my least favorite. Wonderful ship and destinations. I ordered the "faster to fun" $79dollars. They don't honor it on the fantasy they said it only works if you have tender ports? Gave me a phone number just for faster to fun package they told me that I can't use number due to I have "any time dining" I asked for refund was told no. Waste of money for faster to fun only on the fantasy. I killed cockroach in dining room, room M192 was only to be cleaned if we left room from 8-12 steward said after 12 room wouldn't be cleaned and he could give me shorter time to be out of room all or nothing, did come to agreement that I could call him and let him know we left for are 2hr breakfast. We cruise a lot and would take carnival again just not on the fantasy. Read Less

This was the first cruise ever for my husband, 11 year-old, 9 year-old, and me. Having researched the Fantasy extensively ahead of time, I already knew it was the oldest ship in the Carnival fleet, that the decor would be outdated, and that the ship was one of the smallest. If decor and asthetics are important to you, you will want to pick a different ship. Those things are not important to us, however, and we believe we can make our own fun no matter where we go, so we made the 12-hour drive from Indiana to cruise on the Fantasy. We LOVED it. Everything you’re reading about the friendly and accommodating staff is absolutely true. It seems like they never sleep and are always smiling. They made our kids feel special and they treated us like family - i have nothing but high praise for all of the staff we encountered during our five days on the ship. The food is just fine - it's better that what i can cook at home, so no complaints here. I wasn't expecting a five-star buffet, so i wasn’t disappointed. My kids had at least 15 ice cream cones a day. The bottomless bubbles for the kids so i didn't have to listen to them ask me for soda all week was priceless. My husband and i were happy with the tea and lemonade, and a few cocktails a day. Shout out to Denzil and Jorge in the Jubilee dining room for ridiculously amazing service every single night! We had a room with two upper pullmans and a king bed. I wanted to throw myself overboard a few times because of the sheer CLOSENESS with the fam in that one room, but it’s not Carnival’s fault I had to watch Teen Titans Go every night before bed. Next time we’ll get two rooms and that will solve that problem! Beds were comfy, not a alot of storage space but we got creative and made it work. Huge props to El for being the best cabin steward of all times, and greeting us by name every time she saw us - in room or out. Entertainment was plentiful and there was never a time where something wasn’t going on. I plopped myself in a deck chair by the pool from 8am - 5pm and read all day, but the rest of the fam went to shows, towel animal-folding demonstrations, learned the Thriller dance, met the cruise director, watched Black Panther, did some trivia, attending a stretch class, and played giant chess. Keeping the extroverts AND introverts happy at the same time = worth every penny. Embark and debark was organized. If you’re patient and you follow the instructions, you’ll be on and off in no time. We did the catamaran/snorkeling excursion in Costa Maya, and it was perfect for beginner through advanced snorkelers, and included time at a beach (with free drinks!) afterwards. We did the dolphin ride at Dolphinaris in Cozumel and THAT was magical. (Pro tip: i booked that excursion directly through the Dolphinaris website and saved about 70% off the Carnival price. We received the same experience that our fellow cruisers received, including free lunch and free drinks! The only thing we had to do separtely was grab a taxi.) The pool IS small. The ship IS old. But there is way more good than bad on this ship. If you’re looking for something to complain about, you’ll find it, but if you’re looking to relax and enjoy yourself, i think you’ll find that too. We chose this cruise because it departed for Mobile(only an hour from home) and we were interested in relaxing on the cruise and not planning on getting off the ship for excursions. The ship is one of the smallest in Carnival's fleet, which was a plus since my wife cant walk long distances. We enjoyed the friendliness of the crew and the lack of the crowds that can be overwhelming on the larger ships. The entertainment was excellent considering the small theater and limited number of other venue's The main complaint I had was the food. I found that the dining room selections were more limited that on previous cruises on the Carnival Dream and Conquest. Even on Elegant night, the Entree's did not include Lobster tail and Filet Minion as was included on previous cruises, although Lobster tails were offered for an additional fee. I also found the preparation was not very good with most of my dinners overcooked and dried out and the steak was mealy and grizzly. While the Wait staff was for the most part friendly and helpful, I found the pace of dinner extremely slow, which probably the reason most entree's arrived cold. During breakfast in the dining room, I usually received my toast 5-10 minutes before I received my eggs, which were overcooked 2 out of 5 mornings. Another issue was people "Vaping" in the passageways and on the pool and Serenity decks. Even when crew members observed the "Vaping" they said nothing. Overall I enjoyed the cruise and am considering taking another on the fantasy in the not to distant future. I do hope that Carnival will work on improving the food service Read Less

If this was our first cruise I would have never gone on another! Still may not! This ship was awful. Sewer was constantly backing up, and all public restrooms at least 1 or 2 toilets that were out of order. The paint was falling off the walls, room smelled like smoke, rust on rails, elevators overcrowded. ONLY ONE TINY POOL. It was so crowded that we didn't even to use it. Same as the hot tubs. Did not enforce children to stay out of the serenity deck as well. So those hot tubs were crowded as well. "Fun Squad" was to busy having there own private staff parties to keep quest entertained. Never been bored on a cruise ship but by the last night of only a 4-day cruise, we were so boars that we just went to sleep early. None of the food except for burger place had any flavor and most of the bread and desserts were stale. Also, this boat rocked so much that I had to put a pillow beside me in bed because I was afraid that I would roll off. The waves were not that hight, and I even asked several of the staff if this was normal and they all said it was they just get used to it. There was a couple of good staff members such as our housekeeper and a few more. Debarkation was DISORGANIZED. The cruise director (who was nothing like the others we have had in the past.) was announced for us to go to one place, and when we got there they were told up to go somewhere else. Please keep in mind that most of the elevators were being used by staff for bags so we had to continue to walk up and down stairs. When I asked where we were supposed to go the employee told me he didn't know that I should have gone to the meeting. I am sorry but I'm on vacation I'm not going to a meeting that's what I pay them for. I will definitely rethink Carnival from now on. I was not the only one there were sooo many other people talking about how awful this ship was. Read Less

Our family choose to sail out of the Port of Mobile because it was close to home and we wanted a quick get away to Mexico following the 4th of July. Embarkation at the port was great: We took a shuttle from the Holiday Inn Downtown on Government Street in Mobile, so we did not have to deal with parking. Showed our boarding passes to get in the building. Boarding passes and Proof of Citizen Ship at the first stop, quick pass through security, on to the check-in desk where our Sign and Sail cards were already printed. Took quick S&S pictures for the file and off we went to board. Quick and easy. The shuttle dropped us off at about 11:20 and I believe we were on board by 11:40. Staff: The entire staff on board was great; I love that our Steward Randy knew our faces when we passed in the halls and he kept our towels fresh. He also delivered a coupon for $12 at Pixels because we were celebrating an anniversary. Didn't have much interaction with the Cruise Director or any one particular bartender. I can say that Mina, one of the pool servers was excellent. The dinning room staff was nice and attentive; we had anytime dining so we never had the same serving team - I did not like this, for me, getting to know the team is part of the experience, which you don't get with unassigned dinning. I loved the young lady at Camp Ocean, who's name I didn't get. She was spunky and fun and knew my son's face without needing a reminder. Entertainment: To be honest, we only attended two show, becuase we'd already seen the others that were offered. Country Roads was pretty bad, a poor representation of what the performers thought a "country personality" is. One or Two performers had amazing voices, and a few were great dancers. As for the ship herself: She is dated - very dated. This is not a complaint, none of the furniture was in disrepair or uncomfortable, but the decore was faded, and in some places looked like it had been updated and no longer matched the "classical" theme of the ship. One of the main staircases on the Lido deck was closed due to missing stairs; major safety hazard as it was just roped off with caution tape. The same caution tape appeared a few days later on the Sun deck along with "floor to ceiling" wood panels that covered some of the observation windows. Almost every public restroom that I encountered had 1-2 toilets that were out of service. Many of the toilets have an automatic flushing system installed, but they don't work and still have to be manually flushed. The sinks have major chips around the edges of the bowls. Cabin: Our bed was very uncomfortable, I could feel the springs in my side each night. The room wasn't hot, but it certainly didn't get cold - bring a fan. There's still only one outlet in the room, and a blow dryer was not provided. The blowdryer was a surprise, we traveled the Paradise 6 months before, in the same cabin catagory and had one. No refridgerator. It wasn't a bad cruise, again, the service was amazing. But I feel this ship desperatly needs to go to dry-dock. Read Less

My husband and I booked the 4-Day Cruise out of Mobile to Cozumel as an anniversary getaway and loved every minute of it. We showed up a few minutes before our scheduled boarding time and couldn't have had an easier experience going through security and on to the ship. We had an oceanview room with a king sized bed - the room (bathroom included) was a perfect size for just the two of us. I had expected much smaller accommodations and smaller bathroom but was pleasantly surprised. There is PLENTY of closet storage space in the room too. While the ship may be older they absolutely make the most of what they have. There are constantly people cleaning and making sure it looks it best. They also drain and scrub down the pool each night. We stayed on the boat instead of doing an excursion in Cozumel and LOVED having the pool all to ourselves. The food was pretty good - not the best we've had but definitely not terrible. Pretty much everything on the breakfast buffet was great - and Guy's Burgers are fantastic. The Dining Room food was always presented beautifully but tended to be a little hit-or-miss. The soups were always surprisingly good. SERVICE was 100% top-notch in every way. Always helpful and kind whether it was your room steward or wait staff in a restaurant. We would absolutely book this cruise again and already look forward to the next time we go. If you are simply looking to relax and enjoy, this is a great vacation. Read Less

I chose this cruise because mobile Alabama port only about 5 and a 1/2 hours from my home. I was a little nervous and hesitant about sailing on a smaller older ship but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I had a great time and so did my kids.Parking at the mobile port was a breeze. I did notice that check in lines works greenly long and we arrived around 12 o'clock. We did have priority boarding however because my daughter recently had foot surgery and was using a knee scooter to get around So we got on the ship fairly quickly. We stayed and I ocean view room and I was surprised with how large the room was compared to other ships I have been on. Previously have only stayed in interior staterooms. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Breakfast buffet was good But the other buffet items were so so. I mostly ate at the blue iguana and guys burgers and fries for the majority of the cruise. My 7 year old daughter utilize the kids club and she thoroughly enjoyed it and she absolutely loved the water slides at the back of the ship. The ship never felt crowded to me I was always able to find a deck chair with no problem. Even the lines for buffet and other restaurants were not too bad at all. This particular cruise had a much different vibe from other cruises I've gone on which I've only embarked from Florida previously. Lots of Southern people and country music being played. I really enjoyed Enjoyed the country road production. This was a great cruise and I look forward to sailing on the fantasy again in the future. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the Mexico destinations. The ship was smaller than the ones I had been on before. The buffet food was not very good. Even the assigned dining at night was not impressive. The free drinks are horrible. ( Tea, Lemonade, coffee ) But that is with all the ships we have been on. The pool area was not large enough, and we never got a chance to get in. Same way with the hot tub. Way too many people in both. We had to ask for fresh towels in our room. The room may of gotten half cleaned twice in 5 days. The staff was nice, but seemed over worked. The picture racket they have going, borders on harassment. Every time you turn around someone is taking your picture, on the ship and off the ship. I spent over $500.00 on pictures alone. My wife and kids just had to have the memory pictures. They need to cut back on this some. So much for the all inclusive cruise. With tips, drinks, casino, excursions & pictures. Our cruise to Mexico had been a phenomenal trip with so many new experiences. Planning out a trip is always fun, deciding where we were going to go was difficult since there are so many options. I had decided to surprise my boyfriend to a cruise for his birthday. I made the choice to go on a cruise since, neither of us have ever gone and had thought it would be a great experience for both of us. I booked our cruise through Cruise Only and they had such an easy system that made it so simple to book. Cruise only provides discounted prices when it comes to cruise that way everyone can go and have some fun. When it came to our cruise I was also able to make payments. I purchased the suite with a balcony that way we can enjoy the view whenever we like. So, I had a year to make payments which made the trip more affordable not to have to come up with a huge lump sum all at once. Getting the suite, we were considered VIP which meant it provided us to have the option to load and unload when we went off the boat. We will be on the cruise for four nights and five days. I gotten a great deal on a flight for both of us there and back seventy-five dollars per ticket. Which was cheaper than if we had driven plus the time we would have had to take. Which Cruise Only provided us discount on flights that made it a lot easier to find great prices. In July of 2018 was when we had an opportunity to get on the boat they made us feel like royalty, our bags were taken to our room. Our port was in Long Beach and headed to Catalina and Baja Mexico. We will be on the boat for a week and was excited for our adventure. I believe everyone should have an opportunity to go on a cruise and see if they like it. Make sure to bring nausea medicine everyone one deals with the motion of the boat different, we were fine but there were others who were not. So, I recommend going on a short cruise first, just in case you do have nausea you’re not spending a week being sick. One cool thing is we had everything exclusive meaning we were able to eat whenever we got hungry and order pretty much whatever we like. Breakfast and dinner had a place where we can go sit down and eat, to have a server. One night we did order steak and lobster which was not included in the price, but was affordable and tasted great. On the Carnival boat there, customer service was great and was there for every need that we had while we were on the boat. From the custodians, servers everyone was amazing. The staff were from all over the world. We did find out that the laws are different at sea and the cruise ship could work the employee as much and pay them as they desire. That is why they hire so many people who are not American because a lot of foreign countries just want the chance and willing to work less hours for less pay. Which showed us how blessed I am really to live in the US. We meet a custodian who was in contract for 6 months with Carnival meaning she will be on the boat for that time and work long hours. She loved her job and was happy with what she did. So, for the most part everything we could expect the staff provided us with what was needed. There were so many activities that were included in the trip which were shows such as comedians, musicals, magic shows and much more. My favorite was the comedians, it was my first show ever and the eighteen and plus had me dying in laughter. We spent most of our time in the jacuzzi which was nice with the view of the ocean or land. We also participated in activities of the boat such as jet skis, a tour in Catalina and Mexico. We had an opportunity to see the culture and Mexico by going to the Blow Hole, while walking to the Blow Hole so many people were out selling crafts and really hustling. In Mexico we had an opportunity to do a tequila tasting, which I have never been a fan and actually enjoyed it. They had tequila that was watermelon flavored. Our View of our room was amazing while we were at land. We booked the suite with the balcony so we could view our location whenever we liked. At sea, the sunset was beautiful and had an opportunity to really admire the sunset with the water. At night it was black and we could not see anything but the sound of the water which was very relaxing. Our room was smaller than I would have thought with booking a suite, but what else would we expect on a cruise boat. My only negative review was there was a lot of children on the boat and not many places that adults could go to relax. They had one area that was twenty-one and up which was very small, they had two jacuzzi and a few chairs to get sun at or relax, I did spend a lot of my time in the jacuzzi to relax but there would be filled with people. I do not have any children so I would probably go on another cruise boat that is serviced more to adults than people with kids. Carnival would be a great cruise once I have a family since they had so much to do for children. Overall, I loved our cruise and we had created so many memories and it was our best vacation, we have ever had after our cruise our vacation did not end there. We decided to stay in Long Beach a few nights after too enjoy are vacation some more I cannot wait for our next cruise. Read Less
