Summary - if your only language is English, it is best to avoid, it is heavily weighted towards Italian, including language, entertainment, food, majority of guests. You Que for almost everything, a lot of items were extra cost and it is not a budget cruise. Quick tips – Avoid Costa if you can only speak English. Carefully select your drinks package to suit, select your evening meal timings to suit (early is 6.45 seated, late is 9.30). Service charge is automatically 10 Euros per person, per night. If you port at Dubrovnik it is KN not Euro in most shops. Do not let your internet package run out, as you can not top it up then, it has to be re-purchased (up to 100 Euros per device) Non of the staff were helpful when it came to being charged or overcharged with anything. Full Review - We booked this cruise as a bit of a last minute choice, we had the itinerary in mind and only had 2 options, Costa or Norwegian Star, I should have read reviews but instead went off photographs, which made the cabins look dated on the Norwegian, so went with Costa. The ship itself is nice, our cabin was ok, although I am not used to cruises, so it felt a bit caravan like, I am unsure if this is across all cruise ships. We upgraded to an unrestricted balcony view room, as we liked the idea of seeing where we were going on a first cruise, this was worth it, as it was great to see it leave and arrive at Ports, or gave us something to look at. Food - Evening set meal times in main restaurant are not ideal, 1st seating is a 6.45 which for some days is too early and 9.30 which by the time you eat, is late. You do not get to switch between meal times, so decide and request before you go. If your going as a couple, have to sit with strangers at this meal, if like me then that is not for you, the choices are buffet or pay for one of the other restaurants. Buffet was very repetitive, you had to que much of the time, but there was a large selection and nice food, it is all self served, including drinks, so there is no service as such. There are set meal times, anything outside of this is charged like mini bar, room service, any other restaurants, including the burger and pizza, which are served from the buffet area and in the same seating area which is a bit of a cop out. Drinks - You can choose a drinks package, be careful which one, as its very labelled on what you can or can’t have, anything above your drinks package is charged. Ours for example was the brandino, which included branded drinks but not bottled water or cocktails/champagne, which apart from the water did not bother us, but as they ask you to not fill water bottles from the vending machines, you have to keep refilling small glasses or pay for the bottles (3 euro). Vending machines only had juice at breakfast time, all other set meals were water, or tea/coffee, alternative drinks are all a visit to the bar for a drink, in which case you have to que up, most of the time. Service - Majority of the staff were friendly, there were a few that because of the language barrier, just didnt want to know. There is no drinks service by the pool, so it’s all ques at the bars. There is no pool side service, although at the main bars inside there is table service. You are automatically charged 10 euros per person per night for a service charge too. Entertainment - Being a cruise ship, there is a fair few bits to do and a good schedule, however it is largely Italian based, including evening, with a large language barrier. Pools - Larger indoor pool, with a screen and more entertainment, does have a sliding roof but doens't seem to get a lot of sun, outside pool is small and full of children, not many sun loungers although this is one of the main areas for bathing, also saw staff taking away towels when people had only just gone in for dinner or drinks, I can understand if they are trying to reserve for hours but this caused arguments. Destinations - This was the best part, I felt you got a good amount of time at most locations, although some are early and some are leave just after mid day, I got to see some lovely locations in a short space of time, whilst resting between locations, this is what it was all about for us. Getting on and off the boat was very organised too. Although they had to change our Mykinos stop to Athens due to bad weather. Read Less

We chose it because of the port of call and the price "seemed" right? The service was poor and the customer service desk was not much better, staffed by people who had very little experience with travelers and were misleading and uninformed. Promises made were not kept resulting in our wasted time. Time is money$$$ ! Little or no efforts were made to fix issues. We read about problems in Italy, political and organization wise and this ship encompasses all that is wrong with Italy in one spot! Food in the restaurant was often cold and orders delivered to our table were mixed up. Simple things like ice were not available. The printed menu did not cover the actual dishes served so that a number of allergies were only discovered at the last minute. There were no substitutions so you basically went without food if you could not eat the food the waiter brought you. You could always fall back on the buffet on the 9th deck and that was the only "safe" place to eat. The wifi package did not work...but no refunds and the service desk did not understand how it worked. Read Less

Cruising for me is a wonderful experience no matter what. I have traveled by cruise ship 30+ Times. This shop was by far the worst in terms of food quality and options. I would gladly pay more for better quality food. The drink package is deceptive. We upgraded 2 times and still had to pay for a bottle of water to take in shore. Their menu in the dining room was not what I expected. Very limited and mostly lie cost meals prepared poorly. When I complained about this I was given a complimentary dinner at one of the specialty restaurants. It was the worst lobster I have ever had! How in the world do you mess up a lobster?? Never got ice with my drunks even though I asked multiple times. I will never cruise with costa again. The excuse that they cater to a European crowd as unacceptable. I have had some amazing food at restaurants in the untied states. Read Less

Bought the cruise as an alternate Christmas gift. Looking forward to seeing the islands and just getting away. What a disappointment! Most of the staff had trouble with English. The cabins had daily changes of towels but the bedding was not changed for the whole 11 days. The tour office gave incorrect information and if you wanted to cancel a tour you were out of luck. That required a doctors note. Tours were not as advertised, well some were, some not. I was sick 5 out of 11 days due to the food...and not the only one. Table selection was not available and after waiting an hour to have seating changed were advised what we wanted Was not possible. We paid for the specialty restaurants, not so special. The menu on the specialty restaurants were similar to regular dining rooms on other cruise lines. The entertainment was marginal. A lot was from the crew...no headliners. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the low cost. Unfortunately, the old saying...you get what you pay for....is totally true. First, the pros: Embarqment and disembarqment was quick and smooth. Specialty restaurants were very good. A couple of the shows were very good. Ship and rooms were clean but showing some wear. Now the cons: English was definitely the 2nd or 3rd language for the staff of they spoke it at all. All announcements were in italian, german, french and ,if lucky, english. No room service after 3:30 so no bed turn down. No wash clothes were available in the rooms. You had to ask for them daily. Toilet failed and took 4 hours to get repaired. Food in the buffet was same every day and very bland Dining room food overall very poor with exception being pasta options. Customer service desk always had long lines, up to an hour. Then the rep either didn't speak English or very poorly. Overall, it seemed that most employees were just "going thru the motions" . It created a negative attitude that even filtered to the passengers. Overall it just wasn't a fun time and it was Christmas! Read Less

Having had been on 10+ cruises before (Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, MSC) I have to say that this cruise line is the worst when it comes to customer service. Travelers used to good customer service should not sail with Costa. We sailed as a family for New Years 2018, and while we had a good vacation overall, it certainly was not due to the staff aboard the Costa Deliziosa. It felt like not only were they understaffed at all times, every day; but the staff was also grumpy - felt like they were just there to get the job done and get their paycheck. While you can see the details of our experience below, overall, I would not want to sail Costa again, or would recommend it to any American friends, or anyone that expects decent customer service. So here we go with the detailed review: ~~~Let's start with some general good things I liked about the experience: + Boarding process was very quick (both on the first day, as well as when we got off/on at the various islands). + For international passengers, they do a good job at making the announcements in various languages (it's obnoxious as they get longgg, but good for those that speak something other than English or Italian) + Bags were delivered very promptly on both the first day, as well as the departure date. + While the variety of food wasn't doing it for us, the quality of the food was really good compared to other ships. + A lot of great live music throughout the ship every night / they have a lot of bars + Drinks package and upgrade to the middle tier package was worth it. Lots of drinking throughout the week. + Mobile app with free chatting (only available for iPhone) was very useful to find each other on the ship as well as to see the the daily planner. ~~~But the list of bad things outweighs the good one: - The temperature in the ship was borderline hot, especially in the gym. Couple of times I had to step outside to get some fresh air. - On port days, despite having odd port hours they did not adjust the schedule for the buffet. At one particular port there was a 20+ minute line to get... Salad, since it was the only available thing. - Rooms in the back of the ship vibrate a lot. One particulate night the vibration was so strong that when you sat on the toilet it felt like you were in a massage chair. Alternatively, you could also get a free shaking massage while laying in bed as the vibration is equally as strong there. - Calling room service or customer service was futile - you were placed in a permanent hold without anyone ever answering. After spending 20+ minutes one day, I discovered that the call is never answer. The trick? If placed on hold, hang up and try again until a human answers the phone. Why even have a hold system them? -- If you managed to get through the line for room service, you'll be playing a guessing game of whether the food will arrive or not. One particular night we placed an order that never arrived. I was too tired to call back and have them deliver it after waiting 45 minutes. - No ironing on board, which is standard in most cruise lines. We decided to send a couple of clothes to the dry cleaner to get them ironed. We requested same day delivery, and at 6PM nothing had arrived. I had to call to have someone go check and get them, and I was told that the clothes deliver only starts at 6PM (keep in mind, first sitting for dinner is 6PM). Seems like same day service is not viable in most cases. - Room is only serviced once a day - no turndown service, or change of towels in the afternoon. - The buffet: in general they had a very european selection of food which wasn't my favorite, but I knew what I was signing up for when going on an european cruise line. - Pool towels: They do not have a place where you can go exchange your towels. They apparently come around every evening knocking on your door and asking if you need fresh pool towels. Well..... We must have never been in the room around the time they came because we never got that option. Not only that, after I once called to get fresh pool towels, they were never delivered. - While they had an iPhone mobile all, they didn't have an Android equivalent. The iOS app, which we installed on the embarkation day, also decided that it needed an update midway through the cruise and kept bugging you about updating (hello? no wifi!) it every time you opened it. ~~~Special mention to the TERRIBLE evening dinning experience The first day was bad. We had three rooms under the same reservation, and they sat some of us together, and some of us in a different table.... After talking to the maître d' they fixed the issue on the second day. And things got worse... The second day was terrible. Our waiter was extremely rude*. He was just rushing to get our orders, rolling his eyes at my grandparents for taking long time to choose, and brought the wrong food (and tried to force us to eat it before fixing the issue). It was so ridiculous that I had to call the maître d' over to talk to him about his attitude. After this incident, on the third day things started to get better after being assigned a new waiter. Our waiter was ok when it came to his attitude, but the issues with the food continued. Between courses it would take a good 20-30 minutes before the next course arrived. Dinner usually lasted two and a half to three hours every night. Not only that, but in between courses the servers would not refill your water or wine unless you managed to flag them down. One night I didn't like my meal, so I sent it back and asked for another meal. The waiter continued to bring the rest of the meals, and brought my food after bringing my dessert.... *note that we later realized that the reason why service was so slow and the waiters were so bad is because they're understaffed. On most cruises you get a waiter and an assistant waiter. This cruise line only has one waiter per table which makes the entire process extremely slow. Read Less

I am not a seasoned cruiser, rather this was my second cruise to almost the same ports. We chose this cruise because the dates lined up with our vacation timeline. My first cruise experience was with Carnival. This is where my husband and I set expectations for this cruise were based on that experience from a year ago. We were continuously disappointed to learn everything we thought would be standard were up charges. We expected to have free room services, as is standard on Carnival. We did not. It was not explained to us when booking this cruise either. Food We expected there to be some sort of free food options available at all times. There was not. In fact, we boarded the cruise ship late (9:00 p.m.) and was stunned to learn that there were no free food options for us ... and that we would either have to pay additional fees or go hungry until breakfast. It was myself, my husband and two teenage sons. Drinks On the Carnival cruise we did not pay for a drink package but were fine with drinking water, milk and tea at any given time. On this cruise, we paid for a drink package (we were told it was an all-inclusive drink package, but soon learned it was only during meals.) We paid an additional 480$ and was told we would need to pay an additional 600$ for the all-inclusive dink package. The drink package we had was only during lunch and dinner (lunch we were on excursions all but two days.) And dinner in the restaurant meant beer was not included either. Times One afternoon we returned late from an excursion and rushed to the deck to get lunch/snack/ something. They had cleared all but one bar and there was a rope blacking it and we were not allowed to grab anything before they cleared it … we were told we could go to the opposite end of the ship to grab a salad. The lovely food was right there … and instead we ate salad. Again, this would have been ok, except we had eaten a salad the last two days for lunch as it was the only thing open once we returned from our day trips. Dinner was four hours later. Staffing This would not have been a big deal, except the tea, milk and water machines that were supposed to be up and running 24 hours a day we're not. Instead, we consistently had to hunt down someone to fill the machine. A majority of the time we were told it was not their job. In fact, that was the standard statement from most of the crew when asking for help. My husband went to find the big screen gaming for my teenager and each person he talked to gave him the same statement, “that is not my job.” Customer Service Our TV in our room did not work half the time … which is frustrating, because this is where you were expected to check your ship balance and find activities. The TV in our sons’ room did not work either. Their toilet overflowed. I thought maybe it was them until my toilet overflowed. Then I had a lady from the ship chew me out for putting facial tissue in the toilet. When I told her I had not done such a thing she called me a liar and said he had found facial tissue. I could not believe she was calling me a liar. I know what I packed. Activities There were not enough deck chairs and activities for visitors while out to see … people circled like hawks looking for a place to sit down. The pool was tiny and did not allow enough room for kids and adults to hang out. The variety and timing of activities were also limited. Communications While on Carnival, we were able to communicate with each other through their free app. Additionally we were able to see daily schedules, and excursion times using the app. We were also able to see what time we needed to return to the ship via the app. These were all HUGE misses during this trip. Embarkation onto the ship was unorganized and took over 90 minutes. We arrived in the middle of the day so the wait time was unnecessary. The internet packages are priced well but do NOT work as described. Was even charged twice for unused service. Customer Service said they would add more usage but would not credit account. I had two days left on the cruise and told them I was not using their service any more. I had them freeze the service to prevent any other charges. Found out later that a good potion of the cruisers were experiencing the same issue. Final bill DID show a credit. The food was bland. The specialty pizza was good. Not very much light and healthy food outside of deli meats. Bar attendants would walk around so we would ask for an alcoholic drink or specialty coffee drink. Their response was “this is self-serve.” ONE bar area on the whole ship went out of their was to serve you. The rest of the ship was not as service oriented. Alfredo, Catrick, Warren, Wilson, Jose and crew in the Grand Bar made all of their clients feel good. The shows were extremely under the European flair - opera and acrobatic. First word that come to mind is blah. Singers can sing but production is below basic. The other group of staff that MADE the cruise was the Activities team - Marena, Francesca, Cristano and rest. These guys went out of their way to visit with us when we met on the ship. They provided answers and assisted us any way possible. The housing staff was unseen. The cruise staff is unorganized. They are not punctual or ON time at all. We waited over 45 minutes to leave the ship for a 2 hour excursion. Port time was 5 hours. They can not guarantee a cruise to start on time nor return to the port area on time. Thus, one excursion we wanted to do in the destination port (Ft. Lauderdale) was nixed because they could not guarantee they would be back by the 3 p.m. deadline THEY set. Good thing we did not do the cruise on debarkation because we had to wait 1.5 hours to disembark. Costa said we could disembark starting at 6. Yeah, we did not start to disembark until 7:30 a.m. To recap, if you like unorganized, no set schedule (even though there is a printed schedule), self-serve drinks, no regular eating hours then this cruise is for you. Thank goodness for the Grand Bar bar service crew and the Activities crew for making the cruise tolerable. Read Less

The chef on this ship should be FIRED! The ugly... Make sure you know what you're getting with the sink package... We called ahead and were told it was all included but when we got in the liquor was included and the mixer was not lol yes for real. The bartender and wait staff are so so.... Or dinner waiter was nice but I had one bartender argue with me about that I hadn't told him one of our drinks... The buffet is only open weird hours,. The pizza is not included in dinner buffet and when they close you ain't getting another morsel if food.. This cruise line sucks when you are used to Royal Caribbean or Norwegian or one of those... Many on the ship said they would not be back as I will not. If you're looking for a cheap floating hotel this cruise is for you. Price and destination were the main reason for choice of this cruise. Re-positioning cruises are always good value, but can be lacking in things to do. They just seem happy to get you on board, but not much choice when you get there. Staff were excellent. All very friendly and worked very hard to please. I think over all entertainment was very very POOR. Not up to usual standards for a 3 week cruise. No big shows, no professional dance troupe. I expect more than 3rd rate entertainment, for 21 night cruise. Food was very nice but usually served a little on the cold side. Soup was hot in restaurant and we had a great choice but in buffet nothing was in servers to keep it hot. Always a very good choice, but don’t want to eat my meal with most of it luke warm. Good salads and fruits. So very disappointed. Over all would never go with Costa again. Disimbarkation was a shambles. Cheap but not cheerful. Read Less

I’ve only cruises with Carnival and Royal Carribbean and this was my first Mediterranean cruise. I’m used to cruise ships having a huge variety of food available 24/7 all inclusive and tons of entertainment. The food on this ship is an absolute joke. Nothing but the same old pastries every single day for breakfast unless you want to sit in the dining room with extremely slow service. Terrible entertainment. Only a few channels in English in your cabin. The news and stock market. Hardly anyone speaks English, so you can’t make friends. We paid for an ocean view room, but there was a lifeboat in front of our window. There’s a fee to have your room cleaned everyday, per person in the room, even if your room has not been cleaned. They charge an arm and a leg for everything on Costa. The transportation to excursions are very poorly organized. Just don’t bother. Read Less

We chose Costa as at the time RCL and NCL were already booked. Unfortunately we could not booked this cruise earlier in the year due to work schedule, etc. According to Costa website is “ Italy’s Finest “ with a slogan of providing every guest with a pleasant experience from our Italian heritage. We have to give kudos to the check in process, ship was clean and elegant, cabin was clean and comfortable with a balcony Now comes the best part : Buffet menu is the same items every single day. Getting a espresso coffee must be done at the bar, and wait in line for it. Getting eggs and bacon (who knows what kind of bacon it was ) it’s another story. By the time you search for the items you want, your food is cold. Of course you might think, why not visit the dining room and enjoy some delicious eggs Benedict! Well, we tried, Egg Benedicts with mayonnaise instead of hollandaise sauce. Waffles?? Imagine a piece of toast with the waffles mark on it and the same selection of items in the buffet just arrange differently, do you want a cup of Italian espresso? Please leave the dining room, find a bar and order it. Walk back to you seat and find your food cold. Or just have a cup of regular coffee and shut up Too much for Italian Costa Hospitality !!! Dining room for dinner - please do not ask for a cocktail before dinner , no no no. Go to the bar and order it. Walk back and seat down. This is not a joke, we had the drink package and the waitress the first dining night saw our cards and said “you are from the USA , you only get water “ wow welcome aboard !!!! Samsara Restaurant - €30 per person to book a more “exquisite dining “ experience. The restaurant is totally outdated. The ship is not However the menu was all seafood. My spouse is allergic to seafood. We asked for a different menu , they brought us the choices from the main dining room. We were ask for an extra €17 upcharge to get a steak. As I ordered the entrees, one of the was lamb chops. To my surprised they have been boiled then braised to give some chard to the meat. The taste ? Terrible. The pool area is very small for a 2500 passenger ship. Entertainment onboard is a bunch of crew members who has no talent and don’t want to do what they have been asked to do To recap, please take RCL or NCL even if the prices are higher. Better food and service, the crew will be more pleasant as they are not onboard a ship for 11 months at a time. Don’t waste your money ! Vacations are important and you work hard to enjoy them. We feel we are a good judge of cruises this being our 26th, the Embarkation seem slow but we were on board by 2pm & I will say that this ship is well presented & our Cabin was good & the Public area's very good. My first surprise was the Cabin Steward asked us when he should come to our Cabin morning or evening, we have never been asked that before but we opted for the morning & that was it. No change of towels in the evening or a 'Turn Down' Service. Unfortunately we suspect it was our waiters first week & he was unable to put the knives & forks on our table correctly & took an age. I did complain & the next night he was given extra help. The food was average I would say & not being a pasta lover this restricted my choice of dinner. One of my complaints was that on every other cruise that we have taken water is given to all seated guests at Dinner as a matter of course, NO, not on Costa ships YOU PAY for water. My other main complaints are that at 10.30am after the breakfast period ALL Coffee machines are closed down & you are then unable to get any hot drink at all, except water. Unless you PAY for a coffee/Tea etc. At 9.30pm all food outlets are closed down & you are not even able to get a biscuit or hot Coffee, unless ofcourse you go to one of the PAY outlets & get a pizza or burger!!!! One thing to watch out for & I missed in all the small print, is that the GRATUITIES/SERVICES ARE MANDATORY & so you are unable to amend even if the service is rubbish. The other thing to be warned about with Costa is that the Information Sheet that you get each day is very limited & does not give you sufficient information about the Port of Call. i.e. in Mykonos, Costa charge you 10 Euro per person for a 3 minute Bus ride into 'Town', which including my 5 yr old Granddaughter. I paid for the 6 tickets & the Bus drops you off about 200 yards from the town, not too far I hear you say. But as you got off the Ship in Port the Water Bus (which you walk past to get to the Costa Bus) costs 2 Euro's each & takes you to the middle of the town. No mention of that in the info sheet. Another observation shall I say is that this Ship has a large outdoor screen which on other ships I have been on, show Music Type video's etc.during the day or cartoons which transcend the language barrier, NO, not Costa all it showed during the day was adverts for their Services i.e. Photo Shop etc. Costa with limited warning changed the Disembarkation Port from Venice to Trieste & because, they say, there was 'civil unrest' in the town & therefore not their choice to amend the Port (to avoid compensation claims). We were intending to get off the ship in Venice & get a taxi to the Airport, but as we were getting off in Trieste this necessitated us taking a 2 hour Bus journey back to the Venice Port & then trying to get a taxi through the 'Civil unrest', (as Costa put it) to the Airport for our flight home. My fear was, we may miss the flight so we were forced to purchase Transfers. Costa then charged us 30 Euros each (including 5 yr old) for a Transfer from Trieste to the Venice Airport. No sorry I will NOT being going with Costa ever again. Read Less

I coincided myself a easy going passenger on the cruises we go on and there have been 26 with this our first Costa cruise but it will be our last. i don't know where to start so lets start at the beginning. They lost a piece of luggage of my, my cpac machine so the 10 day cruse went without much sleep for me and my husband. They front desk couldn't care less, I was bothering them every time I made a inquirer. Second the rooms are old , we had a mini suit and it had seen better days, worn fabric on rugs and chairs , chipped and discolored counters and surfaces. Door would not lock and you needed a hammer to open it. They came twice to fix it and still I had to kick it to o pen it. The toilet backed up 3 times, I got to know the plumber by his first name. The electric went off several times and so on.... The food is fair at best, your lucky if you get a hot meal as they serve them all at once in the dining room. The troth as we call it ( the buffet) is even more of a disappointment , mostly casseroles and pasta, stews and no carving stations. The charge extra for a hamburger and pizza. You only get water to drink EVERYTHING else is extra , even ice tea. They nickel and dine you right from the start. The entertainment was fair at best we walked out on several shows as other did just because it just was not entertaining. All in all this was the worst of our 26 cruises and we have been on some stinkers. This was the worst.. Read Less

We originally choose this cruise because it was a 10 night cruise, was affordable $949 PP premium balcony and it went the route we did 15 cruises ago (2005) and we wanted to see the changes, if any in the various ports. The reviews we had read described the ship as 41/2 stars with many premium features. We agree with this assessment it is a very nice ship! That being said, there is very few nice things that can be said. Our waiter was very nice as was our cabin attendant the remainder of the crew suffered from "language block". This is a condition wherein they either do not understand English or simply use the ruse of lack of understanding to either ignore you or direct you to another subject or choice. Many questions we asked remain unanswered to this point in time, which is after the cruise has ended. While the ship sails out of an American port (Port Everglades) the ship is Italian and that is the dominant language spoken thus the overwhelming majority of passengers are European and that being Italian also. We (Americans) found the food to be bland, tasteless, and offering few variations. Personally, I thought the breakfast sausage was the worst I had ever encountered, the bacon was usually under cooked as were the scrambled eggs! And the general offering was unlike anything we had ever encountered. However, the Europeans seem to love it and that is just fine with us, we can simply book cruises with cruise lines such as Celebrity, Holland America, Carnival, Princess or Norwegian or any number of lines that reflect American tastes! There are NO specialty restaurants on the ship. Instead they sell you specialty meals in the dining room. eg: Lobster which is generally offered one night on any of the other cruise lines we have cruised on and in this case it was horrible! It was dry, tough and tasteless . On another night I had King Prawns and they were juicy but tasted unlike anything I had ever eaten! Oh yes, and the stage shows, well most High Schools present shows that are equal to,or better than those presented on the Deliziosa. The final night of the cruise the entertainment was provided by the crew members themselves and it proved to be the best show of the trip! We did not do any of the shore excursions offered as they seemed quite simple and uninteresting. Going back to the ship and basically its design, it is constructed so that instead of 4 large buffet areas there are many scattered around, such as Pizza here and a grill there and something else over there. This causes a major problem for Americans in that someone is always cutting in front of you, which we assumed to be poor manner or rude people. However, in hindsight I believe it to be a case of the diners get something here and then go to a different area to get something else. They seem to have adapted to this method of obtaining food and we have not and never will! We will simply not sail on a Costa Ship again! Read Less

Have sailed Costa before. Romantica and Fortuna. Cruises were good ports were great. Ships were clean and comfortable. However, 2/2/18 we sailed from Fort Lauderdale at 11 PM. The food was not very good, the entertainment was so-so, the ship was beautiful. our server (they don't call them waiters anymore) was excellent. Our cabin attendant was excellent. There were no amenities whatsoever. 1. No bar service at pool. 2. No towel service at pool. 3. No free ice tea. 4. No decaf coffee (except out of a package). 5. No cream for coffee at buffet restaurant. 6. Main course food under or overcooked at most of the dinners. 7. Drink packages were outrageous. 8. Soft drink packages were limited. 9. White wine only 2 choices. My daughter met with head of Food and Beverage. She was told, because their clientele is 85% European (mostly Italian) they were catered to. That would be ok if the whole ship was European. There were about 350 Americans, 150 Canadians and about 100 from the United Kingdom. That is 600 out of about 2000 passengers. They seemed not to care. Will not cruise with Costa again. That seemed to be the overall feeling of all English speaking people that I met and talked with. Read Less

The itinerary was good but book your own tours. Housekeeping and serving staff work very hard on these ships. Staff numbers, food, etc. seemed skimpy and we wondered if liabilities from Costa Concordia are having an impact or if this is how cruise lines are going. If so hope people speak up. No cream for coffee. No ice cream, sorry, Gelato, but told it will be coming soon but you will have to pay..No milk dispenser, juice cut off around 10:00 but often empty before hand.Lots of breads and cheese at breakfast. Oh yes, cold herring, yum!! Buffet food was always luke warm at best and selection poor. Serving plates were often empty or picked over. Food stations closed at specified times and no late snacks available. We found nothing to snack on after 11:00 but to be fair we never did find reliable info on what was available and when. Buffet area area is a cattle crossing. lay out is poor and it is awkward to get to the feeding stations. This from a cruise line that supposedly is all about the dinning experience. Main restaurant poor. Seated with 8 strangers (When tables near window were empty) and had to wait, often over a 1/2 hour to place a meal order. Had the lights turned off several times signifying that the meal was over when we still had not received desert or coffee (Black) I ordered a salad 3 times and never received it I guess asking for no dressing means no salad. I gave up ordering. The waiter had no help and my sense was that he was concerned about asking for it. Some waiters had empty tables but didn't help out others. Cabin was often cleaned before we asked for it to be made up and was not tidied when we later did ask. We sometimes went for breakfast early in the hope of getting a hot breakfast. On return the cabin was made up before we had a shower, so wet towels all day. Speaking with Cabin Steward had no effect. (He sang opera in final show and was quite good) Garbage pails were often not emptied, why would you when you can sing. Too much smoking allowed, on port and starboard boat decks as well as eating area at rear. Come on!! Too many inappropriate speedos!! (Maybe this criticism is a bit unfair but some appeared to be just underwear. But I didn't notice any wallets in the socks that were shoed in sandals. Entertainment: the 1st night was an Abba and the last night was housekeeping, food services and other staff performing Acts. The singers were quite good and the dancers were on stage. It seemed like an attempt to get extra tips for the staff so wages can be kept low. Read Less

Sadly, for us, not one of the best - maybe even our worst, for stupid niggling reasons. Poor service, and they don't seem to care... Embarkation was very easy, through Port Everglades. Upon boarding they did said they would advise when our cabins would be available, and bags there, but that was never announced. In the end we just went up to the room and found our cases in the room with the keys sat on the bed. Don't expect dinner in a hurry; Examples, first nights dinner we had to wait almost one hour for our food to arrive, and over one hour to be served drinks. We only just finished meal in time for Muster station drill at 8:30, having been seated at 6:15 - the service it was very slow and inattentive. Sadly the food was nothing to write home about, either, in fact the fish cakes were returned by two of our ladies, the pasta was not cooked properly, and the sauce was tasteless. It was a very poor meal, certainly no way to impress new guests. It was like the crew had never served customers onboard before, and the only comment from the Maitre'd when I complained was "it should get better". Which to be fair it did, marginally, but the food quality is still poor and/or confused. One evening the menu offered trout, which I ordered, but what turned up was salmon - which I do not like! Other guests on our table, who were Italian/American, also complained and returned food; they ordered turkey one evening (American Dinner night!), supposedly stuffed, but there was no stuffing - they didn't complain to the waiter. My wife ordered a chicken dish thinking that could not be wrong, sadly it was returned as it was too tough to cut! Several evenings we were virtually the last table to leave the restaurant; along with this and other items I raised complaints with the senior staff, and they simply told us the slow dinner is the Italian way - though not so true according to the very nice Italians we were sharing a table with. One evening there was a new assistant waiter, we assume to help speed things along. However when he was asked to serve our wine it was clear he did not know how to open a bottle of wine; he did not remove the foil before trying to pull out the cork. I had to show him! He then broke a cork in half on another bottle of wine he tried to open at our table. There are enough staff in the restaurant but they never appear to know what they are supposed to be doing! Similar with the sit down breakfast 35 mins to be served, dishes missing items (the avocado on the Mexican breakfast)! I had ordered two brown toast, two eggs, bacon and sausage. The eggs arrived, alone, then after asking the sausage and bacon was brought. The toast arrived, but was white, so we had to wait again.. If you order the individual items, as a breakfast, it all arrives on separate plates - you need a larger table- The German couple on the table next to us had similar issues, in fact worse for her, in that she was vegetarian and was served her eggs with bacon, that she didn't order! We were approached by various maitre'd asking how things are now, or for us to recount the incidents, but nothing appeared to be improving. Sadly, it all seems to be the 'acceptable' normal on Costa. Other issues. Costa App - the Virtual concierge does not work on the three occasions we tried to order items nothing arrived, every time we had to call housekeeping. The invoice/billing details on the app display are not the same as front desk have? Strangely, perhaps conveniently, the app also had no ability to provide feedback. If you take the wine deal watch that they correctly count, ours was wrong on two occasions, and if you take a bottle from say a bar, don't expect that they are smart enough to be able to deposit it to the restaurant for you later - not they give it back to you and ask you to carry it to dinner yourself later....lol! We signed into the spa, and I have to say the service from the staff there has been excellent, wonderful ladies who could not do more and could do well to show the rest of Costa what customer service means. However, the pool in the spa is falling apart; there are loose mosaic tiles in the bottom of the pool, the gully covers are all loose and broken, and the pool needs cleaning. Lastly, understand that they apply a mandatory service charge $12.50/day/pp. Which in itself is fine, and I have no problem paying service or leaving generous tips, but seems Costa want your money (I'd like to know that 100% actually goes to their staff?) but have little desire to deliver quality service to the customer, and when they do not you still have to pay the full service charge - it's a one way contract! If someone had turned around and said sorry, yes we screwed-up, got it wrong, here have a drink on us, or made some sort of gesture to try and put things back into perspective I'd likely not be writing this, but as I already said Costa staff top to bottom just shrugged their shoulders - take it or leave it! When you get the ten days, or so, holiday you want every day to be a positive experience, not a running battle to achieve reasonable customer service - we were very disappointed which made this perhap the worst cruise we have been on, and we have sailed many other times; Carnival, Holland and America, Celebrity, Olsen, Tui/Thompson. We chose this cruise cause we were told it was reasonably priced, It wasn't. " You get what you pay for. " Costa really nickel and dimes you. Costa really comes at a Cost a... We've been on many other cruise lines and that may be the reason why Costa fell very short of even comparing to all of our previous cruises. As a mature couple we expected more from a Cruise line. Staff throughout the whole ship was very limited. Misrepresenting their drink packages. Packages were not explained at all causing passengers to pay for more than they needed. eg. water was included in the wine packages and not told to people buying water packages... Juice drinks were timed and not dispensed after breakfast. Hard to find ice. Not all buffets were open at any time of the day. Short list of extras: Pizza after a certain hour. Ice cream. A la carte meals were extra and fell short of delivering what was promised. Unfortunately , We will not ever cruise with Costa again. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the itinerary mostly. Even though I had heard negative comments for Costa, I thought I might try it. No cruise line is perfect. There was a slight language barrier, but that was to be expected. It was an Italian ship. The food was HORRIBLE. Everything was extra. Everything on the ship was in other languages, so it was difficult to participate. Children were allowed EVERYWHERE. There was not a place to get away from them. Even bars and casinos! We bought an expensive drink package. It was very difficult to get a drink. Servers were very nice and accommodating, but still difficult to get a cocktail. Kids would be sitting at the bar. Apparently, that's ok for the Italians. I did not care for that one bit. I did not see a buffet after 8 pm. You could not really get food (and several nights the dinner was so disappointing, I didn't eat much of it) unless you PAID for it. Are you kidding me? An ice cream cone was 1.50 Euro. I am from the States, and I recently got married in Ireland. My husband and I were searching for a nice relaxing cruise to take us around the Mediterranean for our honeymoon. We picked Costa because it was stopping at Santorini and Dubrovnik, the top two places on our list. After boarding the ship, we weren't sure where to go. There was no direction and they immediately took our passports away from us for "safe keeping." That made me nervous because if the ship left without us at port, we would have a much harder time getting back to the states. We got a balcony room and it was spacious and clean, and the ship had two pools and a nice spa. The places where we stopped were wonderful: Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Dubrovnik. Other than that, I don't have anything positive to say. The food was mediocre at best. I was expecting hot breakfast, and different food stations throughout the day, but the only options were the buffet or sit down dinner, so if you missed the buffet there was no where to eat. Our waiter at the sit down dinner couldn't be bothered with us. There were days we sat there for 20 minutes before he walked over to say hello and take our order. The cruise may seem like a great deal until you board and realize that EVERYTHING costs extra. Pizza, ice cream at the pool, extra pool towels, even ping pong was extra. I've taken a cruise on Royal Caribbean and they go out of their way to make your vacation wonderful. I was expecting a similar experience, but instead felt like I was always annoying people when I would ask for a drink or had a question. Disappointed we used Costa for our honeymoon. Will never book with them again. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the price and dates of travel. Embarkation and the ship were fine. This cruise had been marketed to European cruisers with very few Americans on board. Announcements were made in the languages of Europe and then in English. Dining room service was slow and food mediocre at best. Menu included extra cost selections that have been included at no extra cost on all other cruise we have been on(15+). Pizza was extra if you wanted to order one(on an Italian ship)! Ice cream was never free and never offered as a dessert in the dining room. I would not recommend this cruise or cruise line to anyone !!! I will not cruise with Costa again. Ports were the normal Western Caribbean stops plus Roatan, Honduras. The ship docked at the commercial pier in Ocho Rios, Jamaica some distance from the downtown even though the downtown pier was available. Read Less

We have been on past Costa cruises, and enjoyed them, and therefore booked this one, expecting to also enjoy it. It was a disappointment. First, let me mention some good things. The cabin staff was friendly and hard working, and the cruise director, Max, was excwllwnt. But, the restaurant experience was average to mediocre, and very disappointing. The serving staff seemed to be short-handed, and poorly trained. The meal service was haphazard. The menu was oddly planned. As an example, when chickwn parmigiana is offered, one should be able to have it with a side dish of pasta. Instead it was presented with french fries! Lobster was frozen and of very poor quality. Coffee was not offered, so it was necessary to ask for it. Then the server brought it to the person asking for it without asking anyone else if they might want some. The menu is not available before hand, either posted outside the dining room, on the room TV, or on the website. The Maitre-D was arrogant and generally unfriendly, never greeted guests upon entry, and seemed uninterested in making guests feel welcome..When guests stayed too long, the MaitreD would turn the music volume to a high level as a signal to leave, rather than have the waiter say something. This was very rude and insulting. In summation, the dining room experience was very disappointing compared to the many other cruises we have taken, both on Costa and other lines we have been on. The food in the buffet dining option was uninspired and repetitive. The breakfast options were always identical and boring, and lunch and dinner only varied sjightly. In addition, the hours were inadequate. Often we walked around looking for an open buffet station. The formal entertainment in the theater was very good, both in variety and quality. However, the first two rows had signs saying they were reserved for suite guests, yet no announcements or other enforcement was done, so everyone sat there. What is the point of this? The various other events held around the ship were average to poorly done. In summation, the cruise was very disapponting. We have been on almost 20 cruises, and this was the first to leave us feeling this way. Read Less

The positive is embarkation was easy...probably too easy. Even though we didn't have all documents to board, got through without any hassles. Nice to leave at 11pm vs 5pm, so more time. First the good....was upgraded from inside to a balcony. Not sure why, but the cabin was the best part of the trip, besides the itinerary. Spacious and large. Sonia our cabin steward was excellent. No issues there. The excursions were excellent....Nassau, Roatan, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Ocho Rios. A lot of ports for 10 days, so not bored. Food both in dining room and buffet was below average in terms of quality and choice. Very disappointed with food. Most good selections you were charged i.e. steak, lobster, etc. Specialty restaurants also above $25/pp...theirs $35/pp. Also charged for ice cream and pizza. Service was poor in terms of customers service and friendliness in buffet area. They did not say hello or look you in the face...just did their job. When a person complained to lip stick on a cup, told, "Just get another cup". Very surprised on the attitude of people servicing us. Formal dining staff good, Sheryl in particular. To recognize a person working on Costa, their is no mechanism. Maybe that's why they only do "their job" and are not so people friendly. When we asked for conditioner for hair, told you are not in suites, only balcony so not available for you! Poor customer service again. Will not take a Costa ship again.....person who booked for us said like an "European Cruise".....must have hinted at poor service, etc. Other Americans and English speaking passengers were also not pleased with the ship, food, and service. Normally love cruises, but will remember great room and ports with poor food and service.... Read Less
