Front desk personnel were very rude and not helpful at all. I had preordered the drink package and they had no record of it and when I showed them the voucher with the packages they still argued with me saying come back tomorrow. It took 3 trips over 2 days to have our bed changed to 2 single beds. I am definately not a complainer but we were so disappointed. Food was tasteless, Variety was poor, 99% of guests on board did not speak English. The only good things I can say, the room was spacious, the bar and wait staff who served dinner in the dining room were great, also the shows in the theatre were very good. The excursions were also very good, especially the Ziplining and tubing in Belize. Last Christmas we cruised with Holland America and it was wonderful with great food and service. I had ship personnel bump into me as he was avoiding running into someone else and not a word of apology. I would give this cruise a 1 out of a 10. Read Less

After deciding on a five day stay in Rome, we chose Costa Deliziosa due to the return route, and time of year. The boarding process was routine, however, the rest of the trip went down hill from there. For the lifeboat drill, we were told to report to three different locations by three different staff members. After walking around the ship, looking for the right place, we missed almost the entire life boat drill. A female staffer said don't worry about it. The only acceptable part of this cruise was the cabin and steward. He was very accommodating and friendly. The food was beyond terrible, with a main stay of pork. The only meal that was acceptable was breakfast. Limited coffee and tea and payment required for any extras. The food lacked quality, taste, and any form of seasoning. Limited beverages during dinner hours. Most of the shows were terrible, mostly catered to the European passengers, who many were rude and pushy. The ports were mostly mediocre at best, and it appeared that Costa was trying to save money in every manner possible. Anyone desiring to take this cruise ship needs a good session with a psychiatrist. We have taken two other Costa cruises originating in the USA which were acceptable, prior to this one. If there were any ratings listed below one, most of the categories would be listed in the "This must be a joke or a prank" section. We could not wait to get off of the cruise ship. A total waste of time and money. Read Less

This was my fourth crossing and my 20th cruise. My first time with Costa Cruise. Pros: Well laid out ship. Entertainment around the ship was excellent. The entertainment staff wanted you to have fun. They worked very hard. Drinks were very reasonable. Wine bar, Atrium bar very nice. Cabins were very nice and ship was very clean. Cons: The food was sub par. Some nights it was truly inedible. They charge for pizza and ice cream!!! No kidding. Coffee was limited. It was available at breakfast, at 4:00 and 9:00. You had to ask for coffee at dinner. The shows were sub par. Some nights were terrible. They penny pinch you at every opportunity. Do not take tour to Fez, it was a rip off. They basically took us shopping. I have been to Marrakesh and it is wonderful. Unfortunately, I will never cruise on Costa again. It was my worst cruise ever. Read Less

I am sitting on my balcony in Cerrife, Spain on the Costa Delioza. The ship is beautiful! The ports are amazing! The Service is AWFUL. The Staff is Arrogant and Indifferent. The food is NOT EDIBLE! My dog eats better. I have taken a Costa Cruise before. It was pretty good. They have cost cut to the point to being the worst. When you have a problem. The staff just looks at you like you are a moron. They shrug their shoulders with a " What do you expect attitude." The ship is always late at starting anything. They are punctual, sometimes very early at closing something that requires work of effort on their part. You are really going to be be better served staying at home then going on a Costa Cruise. It is hard to imagine that in this day and age, something this bad is actually in the market place. The WORST! They are especially proud that they do not cater to Americans. Americans know better and would not stand for a third rate offering like Costa. They have also cut out any and all cruise frills. Want pizza, be prepared to pay. Want a hamburger? Be prepared to pay. Want ice cream, get your wallet out. They fail to make announcements of leaving a port. They do not sound their horn. They do make Sale announcements all day everyday. Read Less

Just off the Costa Deliziosa 24 day transatlantic from Venice (Trieste) to Port Everglades. Problems with embarkation: Arrived at the port from our Venice hotel via private water taxi. Ship was nowhere in sight! Was greeted by port personnel and told that due to heavy fog, we would need to be bussed to Trieste to begin our cruise. Was told that passengers were emailed/texted by Costa advising of this change. From what we could surmise, some Europeans were notified, but not all passengers. (Un)Fair enough-but where are the porters to assist with luggage? Was advised by the port staff there were none, (also told all the staff at the port were port employees and not Costa employees). So we had to carry/drag all our luggage about 1/3 mile through gravel, mud and broken concrete parking lots to another port building where Costa had quickly set up and were loading people on buses for the trip to Trieste. Not a good start to this cruise, and unfortunately a harbinger of things to come. Arrived at the Trieste ship port about 2 hours later. Went through the check in process. Advised that we needed to complete a separate, compulsory health questionnaire even though the Costa boarding pass had health questions included. Fine, we’ll need 2 in English. They didn’t have any in English. Was told we needed to complete them nonetheless to board ship. Fine, asked if there was someone who could translate a non-English form for us to complete and sign. Staff was finally found to do this and we proceeded to board the ship. Didn’t feel very welcoming. Frankly, we thought that many parts of the ship were very attractive. Overdone in some parts, but on the whole very attractive public areas. Proceeded to our Panorama Suite on the 7th floor. Nice, but certainly not extravagantly decorated like the rest of the ship. Actually kind of drab, as were the hallways leading up to it. The wrap-around deck was great, although the patio furniture had seen better days. Bathroom included little bottles of shampoo and conditioner, but no lotion. Really Costa, not even for suites? Costa room cards and other materials on the bed waiting for our arrival. One problem: On the backside of card was “Water Plan USA” and no mention of the Intenditore Drink Package which is now included with all suites. No problem, or so I thought, as I had read on Cruise Critic that Customer/Hospitality Service Desk would issue new cards with the correct information on them. Luggage arrived and we were unpacked before the Muster drill. Attended Muster drill. During the drill, a couple of rows away an elderly gentleman collapsed, and was helped to stand again by guests around him. Staff was numb to requests for assistance and required many repeated requests to assist this poor fellow. After Muster drill, went to Customer/Hospitality desk to straighten out drink package issue. This is where Costa really showed their true incompetence. We were told by the Guest Services Manager that they would need to get approval from Costa head office to approve our drink packages and reissue our cards. (Now this has been a perk of suites on this very ship since June 4, 2016). We were told that if we had booked this cruise too early that the drink package may not be included since the cruise prices had increased as a result of the new perk. We asked to see where this was in writing, and no one could show us. We had booked and paid for a PS, and this was definitely a perk for this suite. (The only exception was it was not included on World Cruises, which this was not). We immediately went and emailed our travel agent, who could not believe that Costa would try and do something like this. He contacted his Costa rep, who agreed it was indeed a benefit of our suite. The rep emailed Costa headquarters, who in turn emailed the ship. 3 days into the cruise, we were finally issued new cards with the drink package included. There was absolutely no reason for this, and not in line with Costa’s own description of treating suite guests as “most valued” passengers. Now on to meals: As PS suite guests, we were to be able to have all three meals a day in the Club Deliziosa. After speaking to the Food and Beverage Director, we were advised that on this crossing, there were close to 400 guests assigned to this restaurant since along with suite guests, Diamond Pearl passengers were also extended this benefit. This perk was so overwhelmed with passengers, that it was a horrible and stressful experience. Since tables were not assigned, guests would line up an hour or more prior to seating times to ensure a spot in the restaurant. The Maître d’ Rudy had absolutely no control over the situation, and in fact held tables for certain guests, (including having drinks sent to tables before anyone was even sitting at them), all the while telling guests that all tables were first-come first-serve. Again, another fail by Costa-certainly does not make suite guests feel special having to line up for an hour to get a table at a supposedly “special” restaurant. On the first morning of the cruise, upon awaking we found the room extremely chilly. Checked the heat setting which was set all the way to warm. Simultaneously discovered the bathroom had no hot water. Tried to call the butler, but, after waiting on hold for several minutes were told she would have to call us back. We explained the situation to the receptionist on the phone, then decided to leave the room to get coffee and warm up. Encountered the butler in the hallway, who was carrying a tray with hot water for us for our room. This was the first of many miscommunications between us, receptionist staff and Hospitality desk. Very, very frustrating when someone nods in agreement only to discover later they had no idea what you were saying. The saga of the room temperature would arise again mid-cruise. We complained for 3 days and had repeated visits from the ship’s engineering staff to correct our ineffective air conditioning issues. The final solution: Our room was either hot or cold from this point onward. We needed to keep all the heavy curtains closed until at least 12:30 or 1:00 PM daily or the HVAC could not keep the room cool. Not the reason we booked a PS, to be kept in the dark for half a day for the entire cruise. Back to the Butler as a perk for Suites: Ours advised us that she had 19 suites to look after! How can one person do quality service for that many rooms? Answer is they cannot! Sounds good on brochures, but in reality it’s all lip service with no substance. Once again Costa failed to deliver as promised. Room attendants have 23-25 rooms to service twice daily. We’ve never been on a cruise where you see them working all day long, and then into the evening. Overworked is an understatement. It is actually very depressing to see them working so hard for so long day in and day out. Not an uplifting, holiday environment. Another fail for Costa. The waiters in the Albatross restaurant have 35 passengers to serve, with no assistants like many other cruise lines have. This means overworked and exhausted wait staff. This is one of the reasons that only beer and wine are served with meals-staff have no time to get drinks. Lack of individual service, Costa once again fails to deliver. Food was anywhere from average to poor. Many, many items sounded good on the menu but the execution failed miserably more times than not. Have never seen such an obscure list of ingredients on any menu. Pastas generally good, but after 24 days….. Costa fails again. Daily service charge/tipping: Inquired at the Guest Services/Hospitality desk about the breakdown of our 10,00 Euros/day/per passenger hotel charge. (All cruise lines list this, X amount to room attendants, X amount to waiters, etc.). Surprisingly, was advised that this was a service charge and not a tip by the Costa staff. Really? If so, big, big fail for Costa. Last, but certainly not least was debarkation. Began inquiring about this a week before we were to leave the ship. We had an early flight and wanted to know how the Priority debarking was to happen for the suite guests when we were told the meeting point was usually the Club Deliziosa. Alarm: approximately 400 guests (Suite and Diamond Pearl) are not going to fit into a 150 seat Club restaurant. What amazed us is that they weren’t sure how they would do this and would know only the day before. When reminded that this was not the first transatlantic cruise to the US after a European run with that many “Priority” guests, we were met with blank stares and assurances that they would know the day before debarkation. It was as if they had to approach each problem as if it were new and weren’t able to build on past experiences. Sadly, the last day was a fiasco, as expected. We had to carry off our own suitcases without staff assistance contrary to what was promised by the Senior Cruise Specialist, and the Guest Relations Manager in the days prior. Again, big fail for Costa. This cruise was a big eye-opened for us! Costa has changed dramatically since the Carnival Corp takeover, and not for the better! This is not an Italian Cruise Line experience vs. an American Cruise Line experience difference that everyone warns about. Their cost-cutting measures have reduced this cruise line to the equivalent of Ryanair of the Seas! Customer service is non-existent. There is no access to any supervisory personnel. No one is willing or truly able to correct any real customer issues. There is no follow through by ship personnel to solve any passenger complaints. No direct phone numbers to any Specialty Restaurants or Spa. Butlers are unreachable, and when available-useless, (at least ours was). Overworked waiters and room attendants. Food beyond horrible. Pasta dishes were good, but after 24 days more than boring. Suite accommodations mediocre to say the least. Sad, since we had cruised with Costa several years ago, and enjoyed that cruise immensely. Quite different now with Carnival at the helm. Big changes and not for the better. The lack of pride and effort to provide a quality customer experience should relegate Costa below the radar of any serious cruiser. It certainly has for us. Read Less

This cruise was spotted by my other half and was arranged by an agent who did a superb job and as the holiday included 2 days in Venice before sailing they arranged a great hotel (Hilton Garden, Mestre) and unbelievably good transfers from airport to hotel, hotel to port and port to airport (Acampora Venice, super cars, absolutely top service) and the Easy Jet flights were exactly that. Cruise Day 1. We are dropped off at Venice Cruise Terminal - chaos! Poor communications compounded by the fact that the ship was at Trieste due to fog! Eventually everyone gets onto coaches for the 2 hour journey. The weather is not Costa's fault! Eventually we get onto the ship and Costa Deliziosa is a great ship, very clean, better cabin than expected. Prior to departure we were told by our cabin boy not to go to dinner (we were first sitting) because of the lifeboat drill. Okay so we assume that on Day one the ship won't enforce the 2 sitting policy. Wrong, the did and we had to have dinner in the buffet. In reality, we would have had time to dine at the first sitting and do the lifeboat drill so bad info from cabin boy on Day 1. Breakfast was fine except that a cup of tea is a teapot of almost hot water and a selection of tea bags. It took forever to get milk. The advice here is to get a fruit juice glass of milk from the cereal bar! Second problem - toast - grief it looks like its seen a light bulb! I think this could be an Italian thing because toast at the hotel before sailing was very pale after one pass through the conveyor belt toaster but the second pass produced a good result! I think I got toast of a sort on 2 occasions despite requesting it 3 times - but life is too short!! We did one excursion - to Santorini. Good tour guide - Mama Joy ! All other shore visits (Bari, Athens, Corfu, Dubrovnik) were DIY using shoreside providers - cheap, cheerful and generally good value. The usual cruise story to be fair. Despite having a lovely cabin there were 2 problems. The interactive TV wasn't interactive and took 2 days to sort out and we were able to watch one film- but we would probably have watched 3 if the thing had worked soon enough. Not easy to get it sorted - more advice - after the technician has finished, just satisfy yourself that it actually works. We checked, it didn't but he was still there so we eventually got out sorted!! Second problem - noisy neighbours. We should have complained and got moved. We didn't so we can't blame Costa but I wonder iff its a National thing for the majority of the passengers to be noisy and, in some cases, downright rude? The food was okay although we were speaking to a French passenger who was a professional waiter in some excellent restaurants in Paris and his comments are unprintable but shall we say he was less than impressed. Being aimed mainly at the Italian market I think that you have to accept that there is national bias and that effects all non-Italian passengers, certainly when it comes to Tannoy announcements. The itinerary was very good and we had some really good service - a chap called Yash Shetty, who is one of the Deck 9 barmen, is unbelievably good and our evening restaurant waiter was also superb but I really think that Costa's problem is inconsistent staff quality and poor communication. Our cruise was due to end at Venice but, blow me, fog again so another trip to Trieste and a 2 hour transfer by coach, again with noisy 'locals' !! The holiday was not expensive and I'm glad we've tried Costa but I'm dubious about using them in the future I'm afraid. Everything non-Costa was superb though!! Read Less

NEVER AGAIN. We paid more for a suite on this ship than the two level suite on Oasis. This suite pales in comparison- as a matter of fact it is the size of- and actually is-a handicap balcony- not suite. The suite amenities include a "mini bar of your choice". No- it is a mini bar of their choice- OK- but an Italian cruise line sailing in Italy has no red or white wine in the mini bar- None! The Balcony was the worst part- This suite should be discounted and sold with a disclaimer- NOT PRIVATE BALCONY. We even had to keep the drapes closed as the neighbors could see in our suite. We complained and they did nothing. A manager called and asked to meet with me- she did nothing. As a suite guest you also get your meals in the Club on the top deck. Service there varied from painfully slow to perfect. Food- entertainment and all facilities were average. Nothing spectacular. Read Less

I would never , ever go on a Costa cruise again. The food was not up to par and everything was a purchase package. There was even a package for coffee. We were a total of 6 adults and 4 of the 6 were not drinkers . After being told during embarkation ( which was a nightmare ) and at the front desk that we could purchase 2 alcohol packages and 4 regular soda/ water packages , when we attempted to purchase them we were told we were not able to do so because we all have the same booking number !! Stephanie attempted to help but called the next day to tell me that the bar manager said he will not override the system. I have never been on a holiday where we were simply refused something that was not impossible, The cabins were creaky, one night during a thunderstorm our room flooded. As for the ports you can skip Bari, but Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Dubrovinik and Venice were spectacular ,also you do not get a lot of time on each port. The best thing about the cruise was the service from the wait staff during dinner at the albatross and housekeeping, Ironically since we have been back from the cruise EVERY single person have spoke to , about 4 couples have said they would not go with costa again , I only wish we had spoken to them before,... I had my first experience with Costa Deliziosa in July 2016. And I definitely will be the last time I travel with them!! Service very poor compared to other cruise companies as MSC or Norwegian. I was very disappointed in general. The staff from the bar and the buffet didn't even know what was included in my package. Costa is very orientated to families and children, so I you think you can get relaxed on board you'll be wrong. There isn't an area for adults only, unless you pay a fortune to get to the VIP area. They are very stingy in general. On my arrival I wanted to take a shower and I didn't have a bath gel. To board and disembark in Venice was a real mess! My conclusion: too expensive for what it is!! And please don't book with them if you are in honeymoon, is the less romantic journey I could ever imagine! Good luck if you have already booked with them! Read Less

We found a last minute offer that was ideal as we live fairly close to Venice To get to Venice we travelled in an Austrian Rail bus that dropped us at the port 3 hours later We checked our bags and walked to Venice for a short visit It was Easter Sunday and very busy so we left quickly and leisurely went back to the embarkation hall Embarkation was fairly slow and we had to wait around for quite sometime - something that Costa does not get quite right! Disembarking was a problem for us as we needed to get off fairly early and we were given 3 different instructions from reception - eventually we got to the right place This was our second trip on Deliziosa and we were not disappointed,, the ship is spic and span Our cabin, a Premium Balcony was tops and our invisible cabin steward was super efficient Most of our meals were in the MDR , the Maitre D was really helpful and organised us a table with pleasant English speaking table mates Our waiters on table 235 first sitting were really good to us We purchased a wine package on board and were happy with the quality of the wines Breakfast in Muscadins Buffet is continental and no eggs were on offer, only in the MDR The food selection was more than adequate and the sweets amazing To find a table on on sea days in Muscadins can be a bit tricky We did our own thing in the ports as the stops were half day The gym and Sauna areas are also very well equipped In Santorini the tendering was really efficient and the stop was great as always Thanks to the Deliziosa team, we'll be back again Read Less

Most of the highly critical reviews are unfair. Do your homework - this is an Italian line catering primarily to Europeans. If "foreigners" and hearing other languages upset you then stay home and go to Epcot instead. All crew members speak fluent English so that will not be a problem. A great variety of good food available at all meals... but (particularly on long cruses) do not expect fresh seafood or American style steaks. Most excursions were excellent and a good value and impossible to duplicate on your own. Spring for a beverage package - Brindiamo gets you unlimited wine, hard liquor (Johnny Walker Red, but not Black) as well as sparkling water, sodas juices whenever you want it. Service staff were amazingly pleasant and hardworking, as swell as fun. Onboard entertainment was fun...from Opera, to popular music to comedy and magic shows, as well as passenger participation contests like the "Voice of the Sea" competition.. More onboard enrichment activities would have been appreciated. Only one on-board lecturer covered Italian language lessons as well as lectures on history and culture. We've been on more than 25 cruises from Carnival to Cunard. It's always been a great experience. I booked with Costa, because I had heard they have large dance floors. It was beautiful: the floor, the music, the length of time the music played every night from 6:00 'till 1:30 A.M. However, not everyone dances, or plays the casino, or loves to hang out at the bars. But everyone loves to be served and eat on the ship. Here is where the experience goes bad. The food was absolutely horrible, from the prime rib the first night to the exotic foods throughout the rest of the cruise. I found myself eating everyday pasta everyday of the cruise. Even on the gala night, nothing was special, not even serving the typical lobster on the last formal night. Instead they served shrimp cocktail ( that would be the 60 to 70 count per pound size). They even threw in 1 piece of salad shrimp for good luck, I guess. Oh, I had to request ice for my water and butter for my bread every night. As if the food wasn't bad enough, the only free beverage all day and night was coffee, or hot water for one's teabag. The breakfast buffet had juice available, if you didn't mind it so watered down that it tasted like flavored water. Forget about the eggs, or the pancakes and waffles that were served in the dining room for the morning. It took forever to get the order from the server. All in all, we will not go back to any Costa Ship again. They skimp on the food and drink wherever possible, even though the fare was no different than it would be on a Royal or Celebrity. And one more thing, in the restrooms there were no paper towels, only air dry machines like McDonald's. Being American, I didn't mind the language barrier with all the different nationalities on board. Read Less

We booked our trip on the ship a year in advance, the ship had not been to this port in the last four years. This ship is made for Italians speaking people only, if you do not speak that language then do not book a trip with them. You only hear the English if you are in your stateroom cause with 2,000 + Italians onboard you can not hear what is being announced. Activities onboard are next to none, nothing goes on till around dinner time. This ship has two smoking areas, but only one can you have a drink at. Costa allows children to be in the casino at all hours and they even play the VLT machines. There is no quiet space onboard for adults only so you have kids jumping in/out of both pools etc. The shows are geared for Italians: Opera and other stage shows done in their language, this also goes for the food. Menus are a revamp every night same food but in different places on the menu. The food was so bad that I lost 12lbs. for the 10 days I was gone, has never happened before. The staff do not speak English very well and it is very frustrating to try to communicate with any member of the crew. The rooms are standard but you must phone every night for room service to bring you ice for your room. Also there are no wash cloths in your room, how do you wash your face and body without one. Disembarkation was a real joke, they tell you hours before that you must register early to be able to fast disembark, but by the time you find out it is too late to register. You must authorize your stateroom card after you come on ship, so again standing in line to do this unlike other cruise lines that what ever credit card you booked with the trip is used. This ship is one of the largest of Costa Cruises. The checkin was very fast and efficient. Once we got on the ship, we realized how spectacular it was. As it was a special cruise New Year, it was almost maximum capacity, and still not face long lines for meals as many complained here. The public of the Costa Cruises are well diversified, many Europeans, Latin Americans, etc .... people around the world. They speak and make all anouncments in 5 languages in the ship, for everybody! The food was great, both for breakfast, as snacks, lunch and dinner. After withdrawing the breakfast at 10: 30h automatically already preparing the snacks buffets close to the pools, and at the same time already served lunch in restaurants from 12pm. For those who do not want to dine in the restaurant a la carte, dinner is served in the central restaurant, and is not served the same meal. We ate dinner every night at the restaurant à la carte, and I can say clearly that the food served is of excellent quality and very tasty, and the waiters are very helpful and friendly. The pools, as in any vessel in shipping days are well filled, but there are enough chairs for everyone. The entertainment is great in any space ship had some kind of activity going on, and meets all kinds of passenger preference. Theme parties were also very beautiful, well organized and great music. We hired the Intenditore drinks package, and it was worth it. The best ship beverage package, entitled to top drinks! Our cabin was a balcony, very spacious! super silent. With room service included and also gives the right to choose the round dinner. No doubt I will return to travel with Costa, great choice and cost benefit! Read Less

First I want to say the room with a balcony was great and roomy. The workers on board work very hard and long hours. Now the bad, This was the most unusual cruise ship that we have been on. Did not know the ship would be mainly Italians, even though I knew it was an Italian ship. Costa needs to Americanize the ship a whole lot more if it wants to cruise from FT.Lauderdale, Fla USA. This ship nickel and dimes you to death (pay for ice cream, ping pong balls and etc). The buffets were extremly limited and had the same terrible food everyday. The same old pasta and pizza everyday. The buffet were always crowed with long lines and had to walk all around the ship to find a vacant table after the food got cold. The staff was slow cleaning the tables in buffet area. No ice tea or lemonade and sometimes no coffee. The food was not 24 hours like other cruise ships. The announcements were always in Italian and once in awhile maybe trying to speak English. The entertainment was pretty good but started to be alike and during the the day there was not enough, VERY BORING. Interior of ship was very strange and gaudy. Enjoyed being with English speaking people when you could find them. Spoke to several of Americans and Canadians and they all said it will be the last time they will cruise with Costa. It was the worst and last cruise my wife and I will go on with Costa Read Less

This cruise was the worst cruise i have ever been on for various reasons. I will first start by saying the only two positives which were the Ship which was fairly new and in good shape and the overall staff (they work really hard/do the best they can for being overworked). Those are the only two positives i can think of. The negative: Food: The food quality and availability were horrible. Breakfast - The food offered for breakfast was very limited (two types of eggs, sausage, hash browns, fruit and other small things but that was it) and always the same, they did not even have waffles, pancakes or anything. Breakfast was only available until 10:30 AM and they only had ONE breakfast bar open for THE WHOLE SHIP, so you can imagine the lines every morning. Moreover, from 10:30 until 12:30 there was no food available. If you missed breakfast because you slept in, you had to wait until lunch. Lunch - The food at lunch was usually left overs from dinner the night before. YES, the same food. They would re-name it and also add some other small things but they usually had 3 kinds of meat which were the same as the dinner the night before, and overall not that good. Availability: Lunch ended i believe at 4:30 (maybe 5) again, there was no food available until dinner at 6, by no food, i mean absolutely no food, you could order room service at a charge. Dinner - There was only one restaurant that was inclusive (you did not have to pay extra for dinner), this restaurant served the same food as the dinner buffet, so it was the same if you ate there or ate at the buffet (the food was prepared to look nicer on your plate). Availability: Dinner ended at 9 PM, then again there was no food until 6:30AM. If you missed dinner you were gonna be hungry, you did have the option to BUY cheese pizza for something like $10 a person after 9PM. Now lets move on to the overall atmosphere: The people were nice, mostly Italian which is not necessarily a bad things, but the announcements were all in Italian as well, which was annoying. The crew was overworked, and were not well trained. Individuals did not know directions around the ship, or were not able to answer basic questions about food, or activities (not even individuals in customer service). The serves were overworked, you could tell that they had to much on their plate, they were running around all night and did were not able to provide any personalized service, additionally i spoke with a few of them, and they stated that they rarely get a day off. Atmosphere around the pool was that they did not offer much for customers with regards to food or beverages, there was no juice or ice tea available at any time after breakfast. They opened a lunch bar around 3 until 4:30 with hotdogs and hamburgers (which were not good quality, tasted horrible). They did have two food events by the pool area, one which they had paella and another were they had pasta. The pasta didnt have any meat, it was only pasta and sauce (and wasnt that good), the paella only really had fish. Entertainment was below average but they did have an entertainment crew which had some events by the pool, the things they did were ok, not as well planned and as extensive as any of the other cruises i have been to. I could go on and on about the negative things about this cruise, but I will say that it was a horrible experience. I usually never want to leave when i go on a cruise, in this cruise i could not wait for it to be over. My family ate breakfast at the airport the day we left the cruise because the food at the cruise was that bad. Yes, airport food was 10X better than the garbage this cruise feeds its customers. I would NOT recommend this cruise line to anyone. Read Less

I like to start off with good things to say, the bread, pastries, deserts, our table waiters and cabin steward and dance lessons were all good. Outside of that the experience on the ship was the worst. This was our 16th cruise and 9th with our son. So I will compare with my previous experiences. The Costa Deliziosa has interiors that are very tacky and gaudy, your reflection will follow you everywhere and after a while you will get annoyed that 12 of you are moving in unison everywhere. The color Red is overdone to a point where now it is no longer my favorite color. Everything is in Italian, and English is the 5th language after, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. The food choices were very limited and the stations that they had setup had very long lines. Being a vegetarian limits your choice even more. For breakfast (because of their limited choices) everyone wanted fresh eggs or fresh omelets and the lines would move at a snail pace cause the poor guy (yes one guy) making the fresh eggs an omelets just could not keep up. By the way they use European powder mixes for scrambled eggs and I cant even describe to you the texture of that supposedly edible item. The other problem was the slick floor tile they used along the main isles, so along with the crowded lines one had to share the crowed isles cause by the second day on the ship everyone was walking slow in the isles. I did not know if staff was new, however most of them could not answer questions, they had to look for someone who knew the answer or they said I dont know. The Asian staff was helpful the rest of them did not speak English or at least conveyed that they dont understand English. Their shows were okay nothing with a wow factor, same old dancing groups, singers, magicians etc.. They were big into selling us a trip into diamonds international where they showcased the variety of the best products to get at bargain prices. We skipped a beautiful day in Costa Maya because according to the "authorities" it was choppy. Later we heard that Costa did not dock the pier cause they did not want to pay the dock fees. Dont know how far this is true, but its quite possible. Compared to my travels around the Caribbean and the world we have docked and tendered in far worse choppy conditions. Anyways we will never know the real reason for skipping a port with a pier to dock, especially because a ship from princess cruise had already docked before us. Lastly I was really shocked by the rudeness of the passengers. We had 3 incidents where we (my spouse, my son and I) were told off by the passengers. Im not sure if the Europeans hate Americans or it was just a racial thing, however in the 16 years we have traveled in cruises and made so many new friends from all over the world, this was by far the rudest crowd of Europeans. And I spoke to several Americans of different age groups and they all said it will be the last time they will cruise with Costa. I also got talking to the nicer staff who spoke good English and they were all telling us of how chincyer the Costa company has gotten with wages and other means of slashing salaries after the Concordia disaster. I have never written reviews however I felt that this one deserved one cause it truly was the worst cruising experience we had. I hope that your experience is better than ours. To end on a good note we had a great American family who were our dinner mates. They are now our friends for life. We requested special vegetarian meals for dinner which were good. Read Less

Positive comments: Room steward was excellent but overworked, on other ships we never saw a room steward working every night at ten pm. The waiters were overworked but excellent The theater shows were consistently very good. Indeed they were the best shows we have seen than on any other cruise line we cruised with including Carnival, Princess and Celebrity. The animation team was very good. Negative comments: We only saw Max, the cruise director, at night for three minutes at the end of the theater show. No morning show on TV to announce the daily activities. In 26 days we met him once and his assistant we never met her personally. We were told that he was very busy in the office managing his duties. I expect that he would have had the same duties of cruise director as on other ships, but we saw all of them. The captain did a very good job in handling the ship in good and foul weather but he never communicated with the passengers. On other cruise ships we always had an announcement at noon by the captain. The persons at the tour desk were not informed and were not interested in finding information when asked for. They did not even know the location of the port on the Maya Coast and when we asked for a map they made no effort of finding the information. No lectures about the coming ports, thus we arrived in port and had no idea of what to expect. We are Canadian residents and we bought the cruise tickets in Italy. The first night at the restaurant they told us that there is no water on the table, only bottled water. Thus, we had to buy a water package since we could not have dinner with no water. When we boarded the ship there was no welcome, we were told to make our way to the stateroom. We had many sea days and no lectures. On other cruise lines such as Princess and Celebrity we consistently had very good speakers that every sea day lectured on topics of general interest, such as astronomy, famous explorers, economy, forensic science, use of radioactivity in science and health, etc. Given the high number of sea days on this crossing we were expecting such lectures but none were offered. The Diario had notices not to hoard the chairs near the swimming pool and on the decks with the warning that the towels would be removed if the chairs were unoccupied. However, with the Costa line policy of cutting positions there were no pool personnel, as there are on other cruise lines, so it was impossible to enforce. The only personnel near the pool were the bar waiters and the animation team. Neither group was interested in enforcing the no hoarding rule. Costa Club should have contacted us as first time users of Costa to a meet and greet and make sure we understood their policy and point system. The manager of the customer desk had no customer manners. As mentioned above we were surprised of the fact that there was no drinking water at the restaurant at dinner and that we had to buy bottled water. When we questioned her on the night of December 2, 2015 she told us, quote: ”Avevte pagato cosi poco per la crociera che vi aspettate anche l'acqua a tavola ?” (translation, you have paid so little for your cruise that you expect water at the dinner table ?”). We paid what we were asked to pay and nobody told us that water was not included. No buffet in first cruise, from December 2 to December 21. That meant no alternative to a seat down meal . When other cruisers boarded in Fort Lauderdale, the hotel director had the buffet opened at night as well. It was our dream to travel with Costa for their excellent cuisine. Very disappointing, sometimes we had a hard time knowing what was on the plate, a lot of sauces covering dishes with no flavor. The vegetarian choices were not much better. Finally quality for money: Costa's strategy seems to be to charge a reasonable daily fee to fill up the ship and then charge for everything possible to increase their profit. This strategy might work out well for Costa but most cruisers from different nationalities were not happy with the outcome. We often heard the comment that people would not come back. If Costa lowers the quality, then people would not come back even at a low price. Read Less

We had booked a classic without view and were amazed when 3 weeks before sailing we got our cabin assignment - upgrade to a mini suite. The cabin was comfortable and clean and was our oasis of calm helped by a very efficient stewardess. This was the best thing about the entire cruise. I have had 11 cruises on Costa over the years but this cruise will be the last. In Europe the ship turned into a ferry with passengers who appeared to be starving pushing and shoving and trying to knock you out of the way at the buffet. After Savona it settled down but it was not helped by the number of beverage stations being out of order in the buffet. So we ate breakfast and lunch in the dining room which was acceptable. Dinners soon went downhill with what appeared to be a menu of leftovers. Halfway through the voyage they opened the buffet in the evening for 1 1/2 hours and remarkably it was quiet so at least you could get a salad/veggies etc instead of sitting for 2+ hours in dining room for a 2" piece of salt cod and cabbage! Entertainment was geared towards Italians/Germans/French and I have never felt on a cruise before that Brits/US were not invited or not expected to participate. Shouting/screaming through the night was the norm in europe. There was really no activites - even the ping pong balls were for 2 for a euro and it was a hassle to get paddles from a bartender in exchange for your sea pass. TV was replays of pavarotti - when the ship neared the caribbean we looked forward to seeing the news - nothing in english - only european channels! Read Less

i would like to start with we have done 3 cruises before all pand o first time with costa will be last. it was mine and my husbands honeymoon, the ship was beautiful clean and tidy, the cabin we were in 6234 was noisy couldnt sleep we informed them 3 days later they moved us to deck 4. due to the room had a problem, our new suitcase was damaged handle hand been snapped off, eventually after speaking to ciara english hospitally rep who was lovely, we got it sent to the onboard carpenter who fixed it, the food in the restaurant albatross was nice, our waiters on table 225 was excellent. the buffet food had alot to be desired same things, usually the food in there would be cold, breakfast scrambled eggs freezing, costa is all money you had to pay for everything, water which is a neccessity and should be available all the time, instead of paying for it, coffee was not available all the time like on other cruises, unless you paid for it again cold, entertainment was mostly for the italians on board, the band in the disco on deck 3 were brilliant, shows crap, announcements mad mostly in italian so if you were english or american you had no idea what they were saying, we spoke to americand and board and they were the same as us. most of the english said they wouldnt do costa again, we did however get a surprise from the executive chef a bottle of wine sent to dining table, and champagne and chocolates to our cabin for honeymoon, ciara got us an invite to captains honeymoon cocktail nite where the captain bleesed our marriage that was the best bit, the cabin staff, cleaning staff, and waiters all work hard, they need more regognition, not much to do on the ship disappointed. will be goin back to p&o, or royal carribean for next cruise. Wow fantastic, Fabulous food, brilliant entertainment, stunning dancers, well looked after ship and great service who could ask for more! We embarked from Venice, all the staff were friendly and efficient. When we entered, wow it looked amazing and it was, the decor is very Italian and very flamboient but stunning. There was entertainment all day from the animation staff and the dancers but also quiet parts if you want to relax, the animation staff are crazy and lots of fun to watch or if you want join it they make all nationalities welcome and speak all languages. The evening entrainment was first class, professional and left us wanting more. I do not speak Italian but everything was in English, even the announcements for guests were in English, Italian and German plus a couple more languages but the were not many announcements. The only all Italian announcements were for staff only. All the staff speak English, menus are in English, entertainment is in English. The food was beautiful, lots of choice and variety, cooked perfectly every time, being a fussy eater I even got to try some food I would not try at home and I'm glad I did it was amazing. The desserts would melt in your mouth all cooked fresh on board daily with fresh bread, doughnuts, pastrys, cakes and lots more. If you want full English they have it all the and will cook your eggs in front of you exactly how you want them. Every country we visited we would have food from that area as well as all the other choices We enjoyed our time on Costa so much we will book again and again. After our cruise on Costa we went on a second cruise with another cruise line which was more expensive but what a difference like night and day. Costa being luxury and the other company being budget at designer prices. Would recommend to anyone. We are 40/50's English Wonderful first time cruise for myself and a one of many for my partner. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff, entertainers and for the whole experience it was true perfection from start to finish. THANK YOU COSTA Read Less
