Hopped on this ship at the last minute. I wasn't expecting much, just a quick getaway from the cold of the north. I was completely taken aback by how much I enjoyed just about every aspect of this ship, crew and voyage.
Other than dinner the first night after embarking, the entire experience was perfect. My steak in the M D R must have been leftover from previous voyages. It was terrible. Not ...
Every traveler expects his or her trip to be perfect.
We understand that. And we have cruised often enough to know that this never happens. Close, maybe. But perfect?
Never.
Food service was impeccable. Service, as a rule, throughout the ship was very, very good. Even the Captain went "the extra mile" to make up for delays so we could get to our next port of call.
We have to give a ...
We chose this cruise mainly for the itinerary; it was our first experience with Holland America, and we were pleasantly surprised. In our opinion, the Niew Amsterdam is just the right size, free of all the gimmicks that have become almost ubiquitous on other cruise lines. There are no climbing walls, no surf-riders, no indoor malls. Just a quiet, refined atmosphere (although perhaps a little more ...
Overall, the experience on the ship was great! The location that it came from and the ports that it visited is why we did this cruise. The disembarking wasn't organized enough as we ended up waiting in line as we expediated early but elevators were jammed and they accepted the following people who had later times. This was probably the only major problem we experienced on the cruise. So we ended ...
Friends liked the itenary and chose the 21day package as they were interested in the ports, we joined them for the last 10 days. Cabin and cabin staff good. Ship and washrooms clean. Loved it when the captain announced a whale sighting. Dining room short staffed, so food seldom hot when served - tasty, but only warm. Entertainment in Oceans Bar awful - the musicians were clearly bored and ...
This was our 3rd Holland American cruise, the second on this ship. We upgraded to a Signature Suite (room 6063), and loved it. We'd had a Neptune Suite once before, and felt this was more than enough room for two. A big plus was the location on the ship. I hardly got lost, as it was very central.
Embarkation was a breeze. We were group "A" to go on, and our room was ready. Our luggage was ...
After being a Travel Professional for 35 years,I as total shocks by this cruise ship
The cabin /balcony was fine, clean and well looked after
Cleanliness was often lacking
Dirty tables/floors
Duty managers hardly around to keep eye on things
Food in lido was lukewarm for 10 days...yes really from breakfast to dinner
If you didn't get eggs when they came out it was cold.
Pasta ...
We (a 48 year old couple) have recently returned from our second HAL cruise (the first being on 22 day Mediterranean cruise 18 months ago). This current cruise was a “Collector’s Voyage consisting of an 11 night & 10 night back to back cruise.
We have cruised primarily with Royal Caribbean (6 cruises), but also Princess (1) and Celebrity (1).
The service on HAL is a class above most of the ...
Just got back from our 11 day Niew Amsterdam Eastern and Southern Caribbean cruise that had departed on January 18.
The Ship
The Niew Amsterdam, is a beautiful ship. It is just the right size for us. We don’t like the really big mega ships. Service was excellent in every area.
Food: The Main Dining Room (MDR) food was good, but the quality has gone down from my last Holland America ...
We just returned from a wonderful 11 days in the Southern Caribbean, had beautiful warm weather although we returned to cold rain in Fort Lauderdale.
The ship was well maintained and easy to travel in. We had a aft balcony room that was plenty of space for the two of us even though the balcony was smaller than some we have had in the past. The room had enough closet for us but needed more ...
