Grand's Best Days Are Behind Her

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Grand Princess

Best Days Are Behind Her... My wife and I have taken 4 cruises to Alaska over the years, but when our extended family asked us to go again, we agreed. We sailed on the Grand Princess. What looked new-fangled and sparkly during our original cruise on the Grand in 2001 slowly receded by 2016. It’s a big version of the Love Boat, but like the TV show maybe retirement would be best. Sometimes ...

This was our first trip to the West Coast. The embarkation was very easy. They told us to arrive at 2:30 PM but it was no problem to get on board in time for lunch. We chose a window suite that does not have a balcony. We have had this type of bin in the past. It gives us a large space with two late picture windows and has all of the suite benefits such as special breakfast and laundry ...

Thoroughly Entertaining from Start to Finish

This cruise was my first " lengthy" cruise. The food was beyond special, the service was better than I could have imagined. In the DaVinci restaurant, our waiters Gerry and Monica were extraordinary. The service in all the different restaurants was great and I tried them all. The 'movies under the stars' was entertaining, (a theatre on top of the ship), and free to boot. The free entertain in the ...

If you have never been to San Francisco before, you should go to the wharf. Many great restaurants, seals, ships, shops and sights to see. Also Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park and the downtown area. Embarkation and disembarkation went quite well, but that area of the Pier is a very crowded area, I would rather sail from Los Angeles or San Diego. The ship was a little older and smaller ...

This is our third cruise from San Francisco to Alaska. We are from Sacramento, CA and our travel agency provided free bus transportation to S.F. and return. We loaded our baggage onto the bus in Sacramento and it was delivery to our cabin by 4:00 pm. Embarkation: Bus arrived at Pier 27 in San Francisco around 12:45 PM. Princess agent met us on the bus and provided a short check in ...

had free time and caught local ship in San Francisco. Everything good except for Crown Grill. Appetizer was cold, servers didn't understand we wanted to share a soup portion, filet mignons oversalted to point inedible and staff was unprofessional. I filled out comment card and Head person contacted me. He said I should have complained about the filet mignon but by that time I was tired of ...

This was not our first cruise to Alaska, nor will it be our last. This was our first time sailing with princess. We went with the traditional dining and we loved our waiters, they had our drinks on the table waiting for us and knew what we would like after the second night. The food in the dining room was very good, we never got a bad dish. The buffet was okay, reminded me of a economy Vegas ...

Alaska was always on the bucket list, but travelling from the UK we wanted to make the flights worthwhile so chose to leave from San Francisco rather then Vancouver or Seattle. We didn't have time to explore San Fransico before sailing but that was ok, we have visited the city before. The embarkation was ok and the only downside to the disembarkation was a late flight back to the UK and having to ...

Family fun in Alaska

Our family group of 16 just got off the Grand Princess after ten wonderful days in Alaska and Victoria. This was my second time to Alaska and it was just as fun as the first. This time we went to the newer port, Icy Strait Point, and Tracy Arm Fjord (although too much ice prevented us from going there so we went through Endicott Arm instead). We had warm weather and sun in all of our Alaska ...

We had never sailed to Alaska, it was something we have wanted to do for a long time. The trip was something so different than any other cruise we have taken it is hard to describe. The scenery was beautiful, from the greenery to the mountains not to mention the glaciers. We did a cruise only no land involved except excursions and as always Princess did a fabulous job, I would highly recommend to ...
