We fancied seeing the Caribbean and sailing across the Atlantic. Our first cruise was not a disappointment! P&O were very organised and we experienced no hassle. From embarkation to the easiest disembarkation at Southampton, everything was organised for us. Food was too good, and the staff were exceptional. The Super Duper extra cost afternoon tea was enjoyable, but we would have preferred more sandwiches rather than cakes. The FREE afternoon tea really was enough for us, and more. Even, by sailing across the Atlantic from the Caribbean, there was enough activity on-board to keep us busy. We now realise that the cost of living on-board for two weeks builds up a whacking final bill, which everyone says may be expected. Next time, we will buy a photo package early in the cruise, to reduce the cost of photos. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and we can't wait for the next cruise. Well done P&O Read Less

We use this cruise to relax and not get jet lag on the way back, just chill on sea days and enjoy the ships entertainment each night, Good bunch of passengers playing deck quoits each day and we was able to play until the day before disembarkation. Freedom dining is our preference and this worked really well... Coach service back to Gatwick makes the trip really good value .... Done this trip 5 times and it's best sailing back from Barbados.....not sailing from Southampton. Buffet area does not work as it's a pain to get a table and the restaurant is so much better for all meals and the glass house tiger prawns.....are delicious. Sindu was ok and the Beach house was not bad for value.... Staff onboard varied and some were just not happy to be there, but we found that it's the sea days that make it long days for them and this does have an effect on tiredness, so I make sure that I let them know how much they are appreciated and give extra tips to those who go that extra mile..... Transatlantic trip, in a well kept ship, well run, great captain, good food, good restaurants, liked the glasshouse, the beach house and of course the hidden one on deck 17, what is their not to like, even the self service was good, but some of the passengers still had not worked out that it was one way, even by day 12 people still trying to get out the entrance passages, and some were so desperate to gain access to the lifts they would try and barge in to a lift before the passengers were allowed to exit. OK gripe over, did I like the whole experience, yes, found P&O slick, professional and efficient in embarkation and disembarkation to the extent that I have booked the return trip from Southampton to Barbados in the October trip. Can I recommend this ship YES, what more can I say. other than I will be back. Read Less

Embarkation was quick and efficient - aircraft landed at 2.30pm and we were in our cabin by 3.45pm. We were looked after very well by our cabin steward on D deck.. We were Freedom Dining in the Peninsular restaurant and enjoyed the menu choices most evenings. We had an Eric Lanlard Afternoon Tea in the Epicurian Restaurant which I thought was good value at £15 each and quite tasty, although the scones were not up to Mary Berry standard! We also had dinner in the Epicurian one evening which again was very good, although we felt the service was a little slow. Also had steak cooked on a hot lava stone in the Beach House excellent value for money. Particularly enjoyed the Tandoori and Indian Nights menus in the buffet restaurant. Generally found the crew to be friendly and helpful Comedians Mike Doyle, Paul Eastwood, Peter Piper and Manuel Martinez were good as was the Tina Turner tribute act. The Headliners shows need to be updated as we have seen them several times now. Enjoyed the ports of call but had visited all except Amber Cove and Martinique before. Amber Cove offers a free swimming pool and sunbathing area as well as bars, restaurants and shops. Didnt want to come home and wish I was still onboard Read Less

This was our fourth Caribbean Cruise with P& O over the past six years and our second time on Azura. We were not intending to go this year as we are already booked on Azura in Jan 2018, with a group of friends. I saw a late deal and we decided to go for it and absolutely no regrets. We have previously sailed on Ventura and Britannia in the Caribbean and both enjoyable. We have always booked a balcony, but on this occasion the deal was for an inside cabin which would be a new experience for us. We flew from Manchester on the Dreamliner and had a very good flight both there and back. The embarkation at Barbados went of very smoothly and we were quickly on the ship. We proceeded to our cabin which was in a good location on B deck, near the forward lifts. We were very pleasantly surprised with our cabin, it was very clean and tidy, yes it was small in comparison to the balcony cabins, but in reality we don't send much time in the cabin, Our cabin steward Dency introduced himself and could not do enough for us, he was friendly, efficient and always had a smile on his face, nothing was too much trouble for him. This high level of service from Dency continued throughout the cruise. We walked around the ship on the first day and in general found it to be in a good condition considering the amount of sailings it undertakes. We had no complaint in this department. We were on Freedom dining, which we had requested which suits our style of holiday and we found the service and food to be of a good standard for the amount of people passing through on a nightly basis, compared to previous cruises on P&O. We tried the speciality restaurants, Sindhu, Epicurean, The Glass House and The Beach House. In all cases the food and service was excellent and in our opinion worth the additional cost apart from the Valentines Night meal in Epicurean, the cover charge was excessive albeit the meal was very nice. it appeared P&O were up to their old tricks of taking advantage of an occasion for additional profit. Usually before dinner we would go to the Planet Bar for a drink and met a very friendly and helpful bartender called Simpson, from the first night to the last he always made us feel welcome and would start serving preparing our drinks as we walked in. I have to say that throughout our cruise all the staff we encountered were smiling, friendly, and helpful even more than other P& O ships we have been on. This really did make the cruise. There is no doubt in our opinion that the Azura is a happy ship and this was reflected in the atmosphere around the ship. In relation to the entertainment, Jimmy James was up to his usual high standard and highly enjoyable, We3 were excellent. Both acts performing in the main theatre. The Freddie Mercury and Elton John tribute acts were good but have seen better performances by other tribute acts on previous cruises. Again in the main the entertainment was good. The activities on sea days are not our scene and we had no problems finding a sun beds at the front of the ship, spending the day relaxing. We booked three excursions, the river tubing in Jamaica which was great fun and well worth the experience. On St Lucia we booked the catamaran trip to the Pitons again another great trip and well worth doing. On our final port of call at Dominica, we booked the Rib Experience Adventure, with a snorkelling experience over Champagne Reef, unfortunately the sea was a running a bit rough near the coast and we had to forgo this experience, but still managed to snorkel further along the island. Again another enjoyable trip well worth experiencing. We have previously been to ports on this cruise, but being the Caribbean we enjoyed them all and explored new locations within the island. Tortola is our favourite, St Maarten is a good island to explore and this time we decided to go to Orient Beach for a change, magnificent, one of the best beaches we have been to, tried the Kon-Tiki bar, hired sun beds and enjoy some food and drink, excellent and highly recommended. Sorry if I have gone on a bit but this really was an excellent and enjoyable cruise, which exceeded our expectation. There was only my wife and I this time as we normally have a group of friends join us but it was nice to enjoy our own company. I appreciated this a personal opinion and other people may have had different experiences but for us this an excellent cruise and full credit to P&O and the staff of Azura for making it so. Read Less

It was the first cruise I had been on in around 10 years, having always traveled previously with Royal Caribbean. My partner and I were recommended to try P&O by a friend, who suggested they catered far better for the British market. It was 100% sound advice. There were minimal sea days, loads of interesting excursions to choose from, and the on board entertainment was brilliant. The ship is known as the friendly ship - and from the moment you step on board, you can see why. Superb, attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble, and any requests were dealt with efficiently and always with a smile. We paid for premium flights, which were definitely worth the extra money - more leg room, great food, and priority transfers to the ship, which meant we were on board with virtually no queue. Our cabin was a balcony on the Port side, which meant we could enjoy the view at the various destinations, and it also provided us with a nice area from which to have pre-dinner drinks. Once on board, we realised that the late dining option which we had booked didn't really suit us, but they agreed to let us change to the early sitting as soon as we asked. Many people prefer freedom dining, but we really enjoyed having the same table each evening, and building up a rapport with our table waiters. The on-board Headliners theatre company were amazing! We saw every show that they did (5 in total) - and for them to put on such varied performances to such a high level was amazing. A new show was also launched whilst we were on board, which featured Avatar and more modern classics. It was brilliant! The guest artists were brilliant too - we enjoyed the UB40 tribute act, a Tina Turner tribute, The Beatles and stand up comedian Lloyd Davies... Impressionist Mark Walker packed out the on-board theatre for all his performances, and was hilarious! I was worried when reading some of the reviews on here prior to sailing that I would be disappointed - that was certainly not the case. It was an amazing holiday from start to finish, and I would recommend the itinerary and ship to anyone else without hesitation. Read Less

I wanted to go to Paris from Le. Harve. Also wanted to go to Amsterdam . Paris tour was wonderful. Our driver took us to all the main sites then we had free time in Paris. The weather was glorious for October, best tour ever. Amsterdam also good. Azura is a lovely ship. I love the cinema open air and the lovely blankets you can wrap in. Loved the feel of the ship and going again at Christmas on her. The cabin we got although just an inside was spacious and the stewards very attentive. Loved every moment. Azura is fun, beautiful and well designed I like all the rooms and love the sea screen on the top of the ship . I also like to be around the adult pool area. I like the pizza and burger bar on the top deck for snacks and the general feel of all public areas. Only down side was have seen all the theatre acts before but we have been on 17 cruises with P and O so to be expected I suppose. Overall please give this lovely ship a try. Read Less

I had a wonderful surprise not long after embarkation - my husband had secretly booked our two daughters onto the cruise! They'd all kept it a secret from me for months! They came into the cabin and it was the most fabulous surprise. We all had generously sized balconies on C Deck. They were much bigger than balconies we have had on previous cruises on both Cunard and P&O. So we all had a little champagne sail away with the two bottles that my husband had brought on board. Embarkation itself went well. We'd arrived a lot earlier than advised (3:30 pm), reason being we had a long way to come and didn't want to take any chances. On a previous occasion, in April, we'd had a nightmare of a journey and had only arrived at the docks at 4:30 pm. I'd actually had the paperwork out, with the phone number to ring to say we were going to be late, that time. We didn't want to risk that again. Even so, we were on board by about 2:00 p.m. The cases were already outside the door of the cabin. Cabin: Spotlessly clean, but a tiny bit dated is how I would describe the cabin. We look forward with anticipation to the updating of the cabins to the standard of Britannia, which we sailed on earlier in the year. The television arrangements seemed very old-fashioned in comparison. On Britannia it was like an Amazon Firestick or Sky TV type of arrangement where all the programming was quickly downloadable digitally. Dining - we were allocated Freedom Dining, at which my heart sank slightly, but in the event it worked out quite well. For example one day we wanted an afternoon tea in the restaurant at 4:00pm, so that meant we could choose to dine later to compensate. And another night there was a show in the Malabar Lounge at 9:00, so we dined slightly earlier to get to that in time. Food - the only meal that was not up to scratch was when I ordered Huss in Beer Batter .. it had been cooked earlier and gone cold. The fish was tough and the batter was cold and soggy. Apart from that the standard was good. Oh, also the Ham and Lentil soup I ordered one time was not very nice. There could have been a bit more choice of courses too, in my opinion. The cheese board had improved since our last trip with P&O. We had a meal in Sindhu which was excellent and much recommended. The shows were good, especially 'WALK LIKE A MAN'. We went to both performances of that and it was great. Excursions. Ports of Call, Amsterdam and le Havre. No need for excursions from our point of view; Amsterdam is perfectly accessible oneself on foot, which is what we did, and in le Havre we took the Shuttle bus into town and had a very enjoyable saunter round the town and beach. We've been to both places many times before and it was lovely to go back, especially in such glorious sunshine. A real boon. The weather made all the difference to the days off the ship. I can't help thinking another port of call could easily have been accommodated in the five days. We were clearly sailing very, very slowly the whole time. I wouldn't have minded paying my share of a bit extra to cover the port fees for another port of call. Service. Totally excellent. The crew are so polite and friendly and very often with a great sense of humour. We had some nice laughs and jokes with the waiters etc. the waiters went to a lot of trouble for one of our party who was a Vegan. Also they invited us to try extra dishes on several occasions, as they seemed to think we'd like them! That was so nice of them. The decor of the public areas is beautiful. Stylish and contemporary. Spa Club. Was a little disappointed and surprised to find that there was no thermal heated spa pool within the Spa Club, as I expected, and as we have experienced on many other ships. The only pool was outside, adjacent to the club, but was UNHEATED!! and unusable in October. Why unheated??? But all in all we are totally delighted with the holiday and would recommend this ship and this cruise. Read Less

Chose this cruise as it was going to the Greek Islands. We travel regularly with P&O usually on adult only ships but chose the Azura this time due to its itinerary. The cruise itself was great, brilliant ship and lovely cabin. Weather excellent except for one day. Our cabin steward was so helpful and all the staff very helpful and friendly. The captain is excellent ,so friendly and humorous. We tried another cruise line before P&O and it put me off cruises for many years, but now we have done 5 cruises with P&O over the past 2 years and have another booked on the Ventura in January. We wont be changing from P&O they look after you very well. We had Freedom dining but alternated it with Buffet sometimes usually if its a Black tie night as we are not really into that,We enjoyed the talks on board and loved the pools. The shore excursions were excellent especially Santorini and we never sailed to around 5pm so had a good day ashore. Excellent service throughout. Read Less

Booked this cruise last minute with my husband and was not disappointed. We went to the Norweigan Ffords and it was beautiful especially Gerainger the views of the mountains and waterfalls were stunning and our Captain turned the ship around so everyone on board could see the seven sister waterfall which was an amazing experience and truly well worth a visit. Azura is a beautiful ship and well maintained. We had an inside cabin on deck 11 and it was lovely and clean and very comfortable and must say our cabin steward Iniciao was fantastic and nothing was every too much trouble. We had our meal at a set time of 8.30 each evening and ate in the Oriental Restaurant which was fab. I am a coeliac and have to avoid gluten and I was taken very good care of by Zanthal who gave me the menu for the following evening so He could make sure everything was perfect with my meal for the day ahead. Our waiters Rally and Rupesh were superb so friendly and helpful. Breakfast and lunch were delicious too. I even had gluten free afternoon tea. honestly if you are a coeliac or have any other dietary needs a cruise is the best as they really look after you and adapt menus to suit. The shows and entertainment on board were great especially the group Accent they were fab the lead singer Victoria got everyone up singing and dancing so much fun. Everyone on the ship work so hard to make sure you have a great holiday and P and O definitely tick all the boxes for a great memorable holiday which we had so thank you all very much and we will definitely be going with you again. I guess all experiences relate to price paid so we'll start with that. We always choose an inside cabin as we spend so little time in it. At £585 for a week in the Fjords in August booked two months ahead this was quite a bargain. Embarkation at Southampton was faultless even though we arrived well before our allocated time. Compared with Oceana the ship is a little plainly decorated but spotlessly clean throughout including our cabin which was spacious and comfortable. We were allocated Peninsular restaurant and pleased to be allocated freedom dining. It seems two restaurants are freedon and one fixed. The service and food here were way beyond any criticism. We couldn't believe anybody would pay extra to eat elsewhere. I guess some just have to spend the money. Buffet food was also superb. There were plenty of outdoor areas for those who want a quiet or noisy time. As ever, it's what you make it. The shows were very high quality. Entertainers We3 were incredible. A good mix of comedians etc. We do our own thing so can't comment on the excursions. It was a pity we couldn't go to Flam, though we were warned some weeks before. Too many cruise ships already booked in there? Seems bad planning. Some of the towns were a little dull though I guess they would look better in the sun (we hardly saw it). Sailing into Geiranger Fjord was the highlight. I don't think we'd go back to Norway but pleased to have seen it. We prefer bigger towns with more to see. Dismbarkation at Southampton was a little disorganised. All in all, extremely pleased with everything about the ship, especially at the price. Read Less

First cruise for myself, husband, teenage son and ten year old daughter. Arrived for embarkation early and our car was promptly taken for parking and had a very smooth check in. In our cabin by 1.30 and our luggage arrived an hour later apart from a small case which came later. Our cabin steward introduced herself and was friendly and helpful throughout our cruise. Registered the children for clubs (no queues) very happy that safety seemed high on the kids club staffs priorities. Our son had a fantastic time with his new group of friends and our daughter loved all the activities in Scuba's and was in the ships production of Annie on the last day! We all enjoyed the buffet restaurants and dined in Meridian which was fabulous. Lovely friendly staff with only the occasional wait for a table. Enjoyed the sea days as much as the ports of call. We opted not to do any excursions instead to just have a look around and we were pleasently surprised as lots to see within walking distance of mooring. Preferred the Terrace pool as a bit quieter for us and so nice to see Dolphins from the back of the ship. My husband enjoyed the daily quiz in Brodies bar and our son was in the gym most days. We had never been on a cruise to the Canary Islands and this cruise met our requirements for a brief escape and to celebrate a birthday. We had not been on Azura before, however the ship was very nice and the service on board was excellent. The only downside for us was the limited space in the Atrium for dancing. Highlights: 1. A meal in the Epicurrean restaurant under the stars, 2. Tasting menu at the Glasshouse with opportunity to try five excellent wines, 3. Brunch - a galley tour + food to order. The tour of the galley was very impressive and the high level of cleanliness very reassuring. 4. Gin talk and tasting by Avalon the Beverage Manager. 5. A meal in Sindu - always a favourite with us. We hope P&O replicate some of these events across the fleet, since they were great value for money and added significantly to our overall enjotttyment of the cruise. Read Less

We choose this cruise on a last minute basis and we liked the price offered Our previous experience of P&O 13 years had not been a happy one so we had no great expectations What a lovely surprise! everything was perfect and we are not ones to not complain if we don't like something. It started off right, on 23 previous cruises this was the first one on which the luggage reached the cabin before we did. the food particularly in the buffet was outstanding and our cabin P232 was always kept immaculate by our Cabin steward I feel I must mention the entertainment it being fabulous in all the venues throughout the ship especially in the planet bar at late night. We particularly enjoyed The Blue J's the only sad thing being we knew all the words to the Rock and Roll numbers they performed. Well done P&O we will be visiting you again shortly. Read Less

Enjoyed this holiday a few months back now and wasn't going to bother writing a review but I would hate to think that people looked at some negative reviews and decided not to go on the brilliant Azura. Firstly,if you look at how many reviews there actually are,it's a tiny percentage of people who don't like this ship and I have to say, there are people who would complain about pretty much anything,If there are genuine complaints,I totally understand folk getting upset but one cruiser moaning that they turned up two hours before their allotted time and had to wait?????Er,well yes? You're given a time slot for a reason. The ship is NOT dirty, the food is NOT awful and the staff are NOT rude,it would be more than their jobs worth. The ship is constantly being cleaned and I've yet to see even a speck of dust anywhere.Yes,there may be some rust on the outside but why is this?Oh yes,it's a ship and it sails in what kind of water?Salty water, sorry,it's just that I can't understand why this would spoil someones holiday.Moaning for the sake of it. We choose a suite,so are lucky and have no complaints whatsoever, plenty storage, very comfortable bed and a huge bathroom and this cabin at the back of the ship has an amazing balcony, which we used all the time. Dining is second to none, waiters are so friendly and we always have such a laugh with them,In all the years we've been cruising,I don't think either of us have had a bad meal. The waiters are so efficient and I always had my seperate veggie menu delivered to me the evening before, truly wonderful food and my husband always enjoyed his, never once did he get something that was under or over cooked, always delicious. The buffet is also good and again, the people who complain about no variety?I do wonder what they eat at home, there is everything you could want and as it is for thousands of passengers, they do fantastically well.Hot and cold food,in my opinion, they cater for all tastes. My only complaint would be at sea days it is way too crowded for my liking so we opted for the glass house for lunch,it's quiet and the food is some of the best I've tasted and it's not expensive. The staff are brilliant and keep their cool with the most awkward of passengers, which we've witnessed first hand, show them a little respect and don't treat them like second rate human beings, this is also something we've witnessed.Never once have I seen them ignoring passengers,if anything they are too attentitive but that is not a complaint. Norway is a beautiful place to see and I would highly recommend it,always lovely ports, which you can usually step off the ship and go round the towns yourself but definitely go and see the glaciers, they are breath taking. Cruising may not be for everyone and that's fine but this is a lovely ship with great staff, food and cleanliness,so don't worry. We are both very fussy and would be the first to complain if there were any problems,so please have a wonderful holiday Read Less

we went on a 14 day cruise to ireland, Scotland, Iceland and the back to Scotland, We had been on Azura before so we knew the ship pretty well. We found her clean and the service was excellent. There were one or two comments that in fairness didn't spoil our cruise but are worthy of note. As usual you had to in the Playhouse at least 30 mins before a performance to get a seat which can be a problem if your meal service is slow. it did lead to some frustration with some passengers. I have been on other cruises where they put on 3 shows to ease this problem. There were issues with the tender in the 3 ports that required it. it was taking over 1 hour to wait to get on the tenders and similar delays ay port truing to get back on the ship. There is no criticism of the crew who worked very hard to reduce everybody's frustration. i think the problem was the ship was too big for these ports to cope with. There was 20-25 min trip from ship to shore with accentuated the problem. other than that we had a great cruise. Weather was abysmal in Iceland but you don't go there for the weather. One nice touch was that all the ports that required transport to town were free, and provided by the port authorities. All in all a good cruise and we will be back with P&O soon. Read Less

Just brilliant cruise.Chose this cruise for the wonderful itinerary as never been to Scandanavia and Russia before. Very smooth check in at Southampton and with a 3.30 boarding allocated time we chose to look around Southampton first which was wonderful and port had 3 other big ships in including Britannia. Bags were waiting outside cabin and room was inside cabin but just right for us. Lots of storage and space for clothes and kept lovely and clean by steward, Staff throughout the ship were very friendly and soon got to know names ,Never saw or met a grumpy member of staff so well done P and O !! Food was a little bland in the buffet at the beginning of the cruise but certainly improved after a few days. The food in the glass house and sindhu was outstanding and well worth the extra pennies!. Visited both several times..Love the planet room and spent a couple of hours in there after leaving different ports and watching the beautiful scenery from the back of the ship with complimentary snacks ! Most passengers dressed up for the Black Tie nights in fact I have never seen so many tuxedos and bow ties as on this cruise. The shore excursions were very well run and we thought reasonably priced. We only saw a couple of shows and a couple of guest performers and all were enjoyable. Lots of sunbeds for everyone and mostly empty on the 19th deck so could pick and choose on sea days. The ship although has lots of passengers seems to has lots of rooms, lounges and bars etc and good staffing numbers to never have to wait or queue for anything. Roll on the next P and O cruise,! Interesting story behind this cruise. Was supposed to be my honeymoon but ended up on it with my best man as the engagement went belly up in February. Used the excellent cruise personaliser p and o have before the trip to book pay restaurants and excursions before the trip. All the tickets were waiting for us on arrival. Embarkation at the mayflower terminal in southampton was smooth and professionally handled. We had a 1530 time slot but arrived early bracing ourselves for a long wait. In the end we boarded at 1330. The ship is absolutely beautiful. Never felt crowded and only encountered a queue on the last day in duty free. The theatre is wonderful with great views. Malabar, Manhattan and Brodies are fantastic venues, immaculate and plenty of seating. We always got a seat. The casino is a good venue and had many entertaining and convival nights playing blackjack. Could be bigger but we usually got straight onto a table. The planet bar though hard to find is a lovely venue for pre dinner cocktails. The atrium is the hub of the ship with shops and access to all of the main venues. Especially good on formal night when you feel like you in a 5 star venue drinking a glass of champagne. Outdoor decks are immaculate. Main pool does get crowded with teenagers but head for the adults only oasis or terrace pool for adults only calm. There are plenty of sun beds especially above breakers bar which is a real sun trap. Sea days the ship is brimming with activities and the band accent kept us entertained day and night. Had freedom dining in the peninsular great food and for the most part great company. Never had to queue. Food was good, service attentive and didn't have an issue with wine as was promptly served. All the service was excellent despite a full ship. Our steward Manuel kept our cabin spotless. Excellent service. Our inside cabin C420 was great. Never felt cramped with a good bathroom. Good storage and comfortable beds. We only slept and changed in there but it was a home from home. Also well located for the lifts. Entertainment was excellent superb shows electric avenue songs from the 80's being a stand out in the theatre. Every night and during the day we were thoroughly entertained. Shout out to accent the band if you are on the ship don't miss them. Tendered to Guernsey found it quite dull so went back to the ship where we indulged in a killer pool tournament which my friend won. La Rochelle and bilbao well worth visiting. We did two good but expensive excursions and thoroughly enjoyed them. I think you could do both on your own without booking a tour. La Rochelle especially is compact and walkable. Disembarking was like a military operation, faultless. We were off the ship within 15 minutes. Downsides. Rude moaning passengers who disrespected the very hardworking staff. Would I go on Azura again? Most definitely! Had a wonderful time. Read Less

Our first cruise and certainly won't be our last. Cannot fault the ship, everything kept spotlessly clean. The service was friendly and efficient. The cabin was spacious and cleaned twice a day. Didn't make much use of the balcony due to the poor weather but that is hardly the fault of P&O. We were upgraded to freedom dining which meant we could choose when and where to eat. The food was unbelievably good, especially so in the Sindhu & Epicurean restaurants both of which incurred a cover charge The entertainment was first class and Tom O'Connor was brilliant. Played table tennis everyday with a really good bunch of people. The only mild negative was the destination itinerary, La Rochelle was quite nice but didn't bother with Bilbao and the people who did weren't impressed but for us this was all about the cruise. We are already looking to book our next cruise with P&O. Read Less

Well, what an absolutely brilliant cruise! We were travelling with out little girl who is 3.5. Embarkation Standard process, we had CPS parking which was a breeze. The only downside was a rather grumpy person at check-in, and another at security who shook my OH's carefully placed watch off his jacket into the tray. It was quite an expensive watch so my OH deliberately placed it on his coat to protect it. It bounced of the plastic tray and got scratched. Room A super deluxe balcony. Looking a little tired but perfectly adequate and clean. A friendly cabin steward who always seemed to be available. Do they never sleep? So nice to have the sofa bed put back and taken out every day without worrying about it. Destination Awe-inspiring! We were so lucky with the weather, it was perfect. The north sea was like a swimming pool. You barely felt anything. It got to 26 degrees in Bergen. The was not a cloud in the sky some days. Just stunning. Food/Drink Good selection in buffet and dining rooms. We ate at the speciality restaurants for three evenings and were impressed every time. The service was fantastic, and the little novel extras made all the difference. All the staff were friendly and cheery towards our daughter and nothing was too much hassle. A couple of the drinks we asked for (namely Doom Bar and a raspberry gin) were unavailable which was mildly annoying, but so much choice of alternatives. Kids Club Well we couldn't get our daughter out of there. She absolutely loved it and asked to be dropped off there every day, even on port days. Some days she said she didn't want lunch, she just wanted to go to the kids club and play. This made for a great holiday for us parents. :-) Very relaxing. The staff there are great, made a real effort with the children and were always fun and engaging. Face painting, games, disco, a birthday party for a pair of twins who turned 5, ball pit and slide etc. etc.. Everything a 2-4 year old could want. Entertainment We didn't see the shows because we tended to eat late and just enjoy a few drinks/cocktails looking out to sea. The sunset wasn't until 11pm most nights, so it was lovely to just chill out. We used the casino a bit, which was fun if a little frivolous. All in all a brilliant holiday that was much needed. Can't wait for our next cruise! Read Less

This was our fourth cruise with P & O and our first on the Azura, also our first trip to the Fjords. We were very lucky with the weather. The North Sea was very calm and we had blue skies throughout the cruise. This is apparently very unusual. Embarcation was smooth but quite lengthy, not helped by the pouring rain at Southampton. Our luggage was outside our cabin when we finally reached it and we received a warm welcome from our steward and the other staff. The cabin was as usual with P&O and with an extra large balcony being on C deck. The balconies below us were all totally overlooked whereas only half of ours was overlooked. Our first port of Stavanger was quite interesting, especially the old town and the Petroleum Museum which was more interesting than it sounds! We got up early for the sail up the fjord to Olden and it was worth it for the views. We did our own thing there but some people went to the glacier which apparently was impressive. At Flaam we had pre-booked the train up the mountain which was worth doing as it had sold out by 10 am. It's best to get a seat on the right for the views. We arrived in Bergen to more blue skies and temperatures in the 20s. We took a tour on the hop on hop off bus. The funicular railway is good but the queue was very long. We liked the Azura but found the layout of the self service restaurant confusing. It was always difficult to find a seat. The Britannia's is much better. The food was always good, with that in the Epicuren being excellent. The entertainment was very good. Roy Walker and Rudi West were the highlights for us. Read Less

This is our second cruise the first was with Royal Caribbean with our teenage children, this time we were child free. We were given a embarkation time of 3pm but we got to the cruise terminal at 2ish there was bit of waiting around and we eventually got on board at 4pm, they were struggling to get everyone through and the muster drill was later than planned. With RCI last year we parked our own car and and we were on the ship very quickly so that was a better system. Our cruise was for 5 days stopping at Guernsey and Amsterdam. We had an inside cabin on deck 12 (Australia) it was perfect for us, a good size with plenty of hanging/storage space, the bed was very comfortable we liked the chocolates on the pillows at night and the tea and coffee and making facilities, something you don't get with RCI. We thought the Azura was a lovely ship we especially liked the eating and drinking areas out on deck and the layout of the ship meant all the bars theatre etc were near each other so in the evenings you could easily move from one to another. We ate in the Meridian restaurant almost every night where the food was excellent, on the black tie night there was also a Marco Pierre White menu available at no extra charge which my brother in law said was very good, on RCI on black tie nights it was the same menu with no noticeable difference, the buffet was a bit disappointing, not the choice or quality we had RCI. The entertainment was very good with so much packed into a short cruise, we thought the Headliners put on some good shows and were very professional, we especially enjoyed the 80's 'Electric Avenue' show, the guest artists that we saw were a Bruno Mars tribute act, the Beatles Experience and a fantastic jazz/soul singer who were all far better than the sugary naff entertainment we had on RCI so well done P&O, the entertainment team worked hard and were fun to watch. The service on board was generally good our cabin steward Agnello did a brilliant job and was always friendly although a few of the crew were not, we thought the coffee shop staff were particularly miserable at one point we ordered coffee and cake and we were told to go and get the cake ourselves, which is fine but as he was serving us the coffee I didn't understand why he couldn't bring the cake at the same time? RCI definitely had the edge here with the American style smiley service. Unfortunately we didn't get to see Guernsey as it was too rough to use the tender boats, the captain kept us infromed and tried plans A,B,C,D and E but had to give up, this apparently happens a lot when trying to go to the channel islands. Amsterdam was great we were there first thing in the morning to 1:30am the next morning, the city centre was an easy 15min walk from the terminal we booked our own bus and boat tours which were considerably cheaper than the ones offered by P&O. Disembarkation was quick and easy. We really enjoyed our time on Azura and booked our next P&O cruise while on board Read Less

This transatlantic cruise for us personally was our best yet . Many thanks to the P&O advisors who gave us excellent pre cruise help and advice. Same goes for you guys here on Critics, many thanks. Also the flight from Manchester (TCX 132) was as good as it could get, the crew looked after us and even gave us our head phones for the in-flight system, to keep. From what we saw of the £5 film upgrade it seemed limited so stuck with the free channels and were happy with them . The Azura is near on identical to the Ventura which we have also used in the past so we had no problems getting around the ship. The ports we visited were very good also .St Lucia being our most favourite. We took a visit to Reduit beach and contrary to us being told the " The sellers on the beach pester you all day long " They were not to bad and were friendly enough people. We took the water taxi over the bay in ST Maarten over looking our ship the Azura , also the Thomson Celebration and a French ship called Horizon joined us later that day. This seemed to be the worst beach for getting pestered with locals trying to sell their goods/services but hey , they are only trying to make a living . The crossing over the Atlantic was the best conditions ever seen in over 10 years was the words of Captain Robert Camby and we were happy with the conditions too. After leaving the Azores the weather cooled as we made our way back to the UK but that was to be expected really. The food on the ship was really good that we ate in only the buffet and the Glass House all of our cruise. The Azura crew have been tarred & labeled as offish in some posts I have read. We found them to be great if you spoke to them first, not everyone wants to chat so they let you make the first move so as not to come accross as in your face . We put our balcony to very good use using room service to supply our drinks . 12 PEPSI bottles £9.95 and a 1 ltr of SOUTHERN COMFORT £20 for our very own sail away parties... just remember to take your bottle opener . Azura never felt crowded even on sea days but it could get a little cramped with the book/kindle readers and card players who were not eating or drinking taking up the tables at main meal times in the buffet and the Glass House whilst down on deck 7 were two bars and one up on deck 18 almost deserted at these times. The coach and disembarkation was well organised , 4 hours back to Manchester Airport with a stop 2 hours into the journey for refreshments etc. So all in all , a very enjoyable holiday with good memories and a head full of Capt Camby's "Thought of the day." to remember.
