The meals were so beautifully prepared and presented - with all the wine you want from the local region. Pros: Nice balcony room, comfortable bed, excellent excursions, the lady playing violin was really great and entertaining, too.
Cons:
1) Food. Simply awful and small portions. Some examples: The "welcome aboard" lunch was noodles and hamburger. Reminded me of school lunch - not a good start to an expensive cruise. My wife's main course at the "gala dinner" was sole (fish). Literally ...

Having done quite a few ocean cruises this was our first ever experience of a river trip.
Initially Avalon made an absolute hash of our flights and eventually got us to the ship after midnight. As we missed that evening’s meal they did offer us some light refreshments in our cabin.

Our fourth trip with Avalon River Cruises. We love this part of Europe. We chose this cruise because we have not been on the Moselle river. Wonderful included excursions. The cruise director's explanation of the castles on the rivers was wonderful, very informative.

This was our third Avalon cruise. We had done the Rhine and the Seine cruises and loved them, so of course we stayed with Avalon. If you haven't done the Rhine, this tour does go by the Rhine castles and Lorelei Rock. I think that is really the high point of the Rhine cruise.
