jaxport experience was horrible . waited in line under awning for over hour in 85-90 degree heat before were went into building for security check . then had to go through several winding snake lines in 85-90 degree heat to get scanner . then were herded over to carnival check in desks . several people said they will never sail out of jaxport again . i will not either even though l live 45 mins from terminal . rather drive 2 and half hours to port Canaveral again .jaxport needs to get its act together . ship showing its age but is going into dry dock in couple weeks . ship was very clean with crew cleaning 24 hrs a day . Tiffany buffet was ok one day , not very good the next . deli station was good but only had one person making sandwiches . same with pizza station . cruise director was great and entertainment was pretty good . pool very small for that size ship . sit down evening meals were pretty good .staff on board was friendly and very helpful . could not get off ship at half moon cay because it was too dangerous to get from ship to boats from island because of high seas and wind . very disappointed . This was a family cruise with our four teens and mother who is in her 70's. We were looking for a relaxing vacation for everyone and this fit the bill. We shared 3 inside cabins and had no issues with any of these. Wife and I took a Holland America Alaska cruise in August so it was good to compare the two. The Elation exceeded the HAL ship in the FUN category. There were more fun events, fun atmosphere, fun cruise staff, fun dance and nightclub scene. Carnival really does have the fun ships. In most other areas the HAL ship was better, including overall service level, food quality, and general organization. The Elation had more lines - waiting in the Lido for lunch, waiting for dinners seating was 10-30 minutes for "Your way" dining, waiting in lines to board the ship. All this didn't create a bad experience, but we did notice the difference while on our HAL cruise. Service was good but not great. One night we felt like an afterthought to our waiter in the dining room. Our service was much slower than other nearby tables. Service was good the rest of the trip. Ports were good, but we planned our own excursions to save money. We can't speak for the cruise planned trips on shore. Our inside cabins were small. The HAL cabin had room for a couch, the Elation did not. We (in our late 40's) were some of the older folks on the Elation. Lots of kids on board, which was fine. On the HAL Alaska cruise, we were some of the youngest people on board, with most guests appearing in their 60's and 70's. Food was very good on the Elation. Most food was served hot in the dining room, something different from past cruises. Lunch was so-so, as this was the big difference between the Elation and our HAL cruise. Some dishes were good, others were not so great. Breakfast was great on both boats with a fliet served in the dining room for breakfast on the Carnival - a nice treat. Our teens had a great time, all enjoyed themselves and the freedom the ship afforded. Great cruise for teens. Overall, I would definitely recommend this cruise, especially for those within driving distance of Jacksonville who can save money on flights. Read Less

The cruise was chosen for us by dance director, but it was perfect. The size of the boat was perfect. It was too small nor too big, we could locate each other within 15 min. Our room had 3 adults in it, we had a standard room and while times it was tight it worked well for us. The dinners in the dinning room where superb, along with our waiter. He truly new his job and treated us as royalty. The shows at night fit all our ages and were very entertaining. My oldest daughter (23) loved the comedians the best and my younger daughter (18) love the musical performances. We all attended the 80's and 90's music trivia which was fantastic. The cruise director Kevin, George and Lisa where awesome. We had so much fun talking with them. Every day we came back to a clean room which was serviced by Michael, he was also very interesting to get to know. We ate breakfast twice in the dinning room, same water and same superb service. The Tiffany buffett was also good food with a lot of varieties. Tiffany's also offers late night pizza which my kids loved. I enjoyed the ice cream/frozen yogurt. There was always plenty of deck chairs to sit at on every level. I enjoyed the top levels to watch the people and the clouds. The pool was small but they did offer two of them and an adult only pool. We went to two ports: Half moon cay and Nassau. Loved Half moon cay, we did not do any itinerary's as the beach and the ocean is plenty. The staff was awesome there too. We were feed hamburgers and hot dogs. Loved the how the staff were very professional on the island as if on the ship. Nassau is a typical port city, we shopped at the straw market and did our own walking tour to the queens staircase, fort finnicale and Nassau's historical society. This port has a lot of history and we learned a lot of it from queens to pirates. Back on the ship there was late night dance parties, veteran/military get together and even Harry potter trivia. We just get to it all and would go again to catch what we missed. We were with a dance team ranging in ages from 12 - 18 and the girls all found something fun to do. Every morning several would get up to watch the sunrise and at night they would go to a show, dance party or hang out and talk. The day they performed on the ship was great, many of the performers and crew members came to watch, along with other cruisers. This was truly on of the best vacations I have been on. This is my 2nd time cruising and my kids 1st. Read Less

The birthday girl chose this ship. We had a large group. The food in the dining room was horrible. If you went to the grill the lines were long. Seems like they would have more employees serving. Tiffanys buffet was OK until I found a finger nail in my mash potatoes. They have one person working the deli with a line. The cigarette smoke in the casino and bars were horrible. We have been on many cruises but it has been about 10 years since the last one. Seems like the staff isn't as friendly as I remember. The pool was very small with rude children. We probably should have picked an adult cruise. I did notice the cruise employees were always cleaning. The ship is very old but it was very clean. I would suggest not going to Freeport. Nassau was nice. Just be careful walking around the straw market. People do not like to take no for an answer. Read Less

We chose the Elation because it's close to Savannah, GA (Jacksonville, FL) and the dates matched up with our limited options. Five days to the Bahamas was just what the doctor ordered. We had a total of 9 people in our party spread out amongst 4 rooms. Our expectations were that we would have fun with one another, eat when we felt like it, and drink when we felt like it. The Elation was the perfect ship for this. If you want a fully updated ship with more than four dining options, go elsewhere. But if you want a fun vacation for a good price and you don't mind an interior room, this is the ship for you. Kevin, the cruise director, was amazing! He and his staff were a pleasure. We'd hop aboard again tomorrow if we had the time off & the $$! We aren't pretentious passengers and we are willing to forgo a few of the features on other ships for the time we save on driving to a port farther from us. The Elation has one water slide, one miniature golf course, and two ping pong tables. The Serenity Deck needs updating & it's small. The casino is fun if you have money to spend. The shows are okay (we really enjoyed the comics on board). The pool is small (salty ocean water) so my kids weren't excited about that, but they kept themselves busy anyway. The food was a step or two above mediocre, but the service more than made up for it. And frankly, were were't expecting 5-star dining on a budget cruise ship. We ate, we got full, and we moved on. I hope you give this ship a chance once it's back in service after time in dry dock, where I assume it will get its much needed updates. Read Less

This was by far the best cruise we have ever partaken in. The crew were extremely accommodating. It always felt as though someone was attempting to make sure your needs were being met. The food was excellent. I can't say enough about our trip. Great job Elation! The only thing I would suggest is to not bring children to the nightly performances. They were adult oritented, I did notice the programs they offered for the children and teems were well attended and demonstrated much enthusiasm. The dining room service was a wonderful experience. The professionalism was remarkable. I really appreciate their effort to also offer a "Show Time". What a delightful group of servers who obviously take pride in what they do in serving guests their food. I believe there is no better value for someone seeking an affordable fun filled vacation. I would and do strongly suggest the Carnival Elation for a fun filled unforgettable vacation. Read Less

had daughter , her husband and 2 kids in inside stateroom and wife and I were in balcony suite with 3rd grand kid. this arrangement was so that son in law & family could afford their 1st cruise. Good - the dining experience and most of the staff. Poor #1 Not a lot to see/do on this particular ship and our suite was directly under the weight room of the spa .People continually slammed weights on the floor above us so severely that the tv actually shook. The violence & noise was 16 hours / day. Try to get ANY rest with this going on . I contacted spa staff and nothing was done . The rubber mat on the spa floor above us was of little value. It was WW2 in that room #2 .Meal offerings other than fine dining were not up to our expectations.. We paid an extra $1000 for this very bad experience.#3 , because of so called bad weather we were denied landing on the private island . Such a disappointment for the 1st time cruisers with us. We were in cabin R145 which was the lowest floor for guests. I had read the reviews, which were not very good, and had prepared myself for the worst. We self parked and the walk with our luggage to the port was not bad at all. We did not do faster to the fun and had to wait in line. The line wasn't the worst but everything came to a standstill while waiting to go through security and it was miserably hot. It was awfully hot while we waited and miserable. Once the lines began to move again, the remainder of the process was smooth and we got onboard in about 30 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised with the room. It had already been refurbished and was great. It isn't the biggest room but worked for 3 in a room even when we were all in there hanging out. The bathroom doesn't have any counter space at all. There was a small shelf where some items could be put but very minimal. There are plenty of cubbies nearby that we used to store toiletries. While we did our emergency drill the cabin steward came by and left his card. We didn't see him again, he didn't ask what time we wanted the room clean etc. I had to hunt him down for more towels as the left 2 for a room with 3 women! The room was great but the steward wasn't. The room did not get clean until we went to our late dinner. We had to ask to have the room cleaned once. Dinner was good in the inspiration dinning room. There was a big party in the same area so we made sure to hurry and order before they did which helped us get out quicker. The food isn't as good as I remembered on my last cruise, but I always found something that I liked. The cocktail server was great she always had our drinks each night and remembered everyone's name. Our head waiter was just ok, but the staff was wonderful. We participated in many of the activities on board and really enjoyed them. Was it the best top notch entertainment? No but it was fun. We went to the events with the intention of just having fun. I participated in the art auction which was fun and several in our party wine ships on a stick and even champagne for participating. The performers remembered us too because we were so active on the cruise. Freeport was so hot I thought my skin would melt off! I went and had my drink in the coconut and headed back to the ship! Hit the Tiffany buffet and hit the Serenity (21 and up) deck. This deck became my 2nd home. I loved it and had some great sun and sea. I even read a book. My only complaint is that they did not have many umbrellas. I don't like direct sunlight and need an umbrella. The main pool area did not have any umbrellas so I sat there sparingly. Nassau was nice with lots of options. Went to Atlantis to look around and go to the Casino. Nice visit to the local beach. Some in the party went snorkeling and really enjoyed it. As many have said if you get back on the ship early you can go to some of the dinning areas that are often crowded. We chose to take our own luggage off the ship. Since we were on the lowest level we got to disembark first. It took about 15 minutes to get off and another 10 minutes to walk the maze to customs. The entire process tool less then about 40 minutes. Were were packed and in the car by 8:50 am. Overall it was a good trip. We traveled with an age range of 9-67. The smaller ship was good for those who couldn't walk long distances and we were able to keep up with each other easier. Take advantage of the sales offered on the first cruise day, and DON'T get the chat plan through Carnivsl. It is a waste of $5 and doesn't work the best. I would cruise the elation again after it comes out of dry dock. I also hope they upgrade the shows. If you aren't interested in a Megaship and just want a nice relaxing break, this is the ship for you! Read Less
