For the most part i had a great time but there were a few things that i think carnival can improve upon. First, the medical staff response time is way too long. My godmother was chocking on their dry waffles and my mom had to perform a hymlec maneuver on her . Other cruise patrons responded quicker by helping out abroad . when the medical staff finally came my godmother was revived and doing well. Communications on board was a bit disorienting . I could not hear the announcements in my room but had to go outside the cabin to hear the announcements . I wish the announcements could be heard inside our cabins. Also i did not feel the captain communicated with the passengers enough about our destination or the weather conditions . Dembarkation was disorganized the passengers who chose to have their luggage carried off the ship were assigned zone tags. My only complaint is that they called 1 to 15 all together and did not break it up in smaller groups. I understand there is a limited amount of time but i wish it was a bit organized. performing test drills during breakfast. Although it was announced it is a practice drill some passengers were on the edge about it. We weren't sure weather to put on life jackets or not . it would have been better if the drill was performed before we boarded the ship. I would have liked a question and answer portion with the captain and cruise directer at the beginning as well as the end of our sea day. I feel this would have given the passengers time to ask questions and address concerns. gratuity was not well explained to us. Usually it is asked upfront 65 dollars but the day before our last day at sea it was taken out on our sail cards. Some passengers were upset by this including me . I would have liked to paid upfront or paid the staff myself . I feel the staff needs more recognition for their hard work. Food and housekeeping staff works really hard and i would like carnival to recognize them more because they did an out standing job . In conclusion , i would sail with carnival again but i did not like this particular ship and feel the company can improve on a few things . Read Less

This ship was supposed to have been recently updated but there were many things that did not work. 2-3 elevators were out the entire cruise, 2 whirlpools did not work and maintenance were replacing/repairing tiles during our cruise. There was an empty coke can and a nasty stain on our pillow case upon first arriving to our cabin. The air conditioner in our cabin quit working and required maintenance. The shows were sub par at best. The food was excellent and the shower was amazing (plenty of hot water and water pressure)! the only 2 really positive aspects of the ship. My wife and I really were disappointed We have traveled Royal Caribbean in the past and plan on using them again in the near future. We would not recommend Carnival to our family/friends and we do not plan on using them again based on this experience. The Love and Marriage show should not allow minors at all and should be a night/late night show. i know it says 18 and up recommended but there were children in there who appeared to be 5-6 years old and they should not have been in there. We had an ocean view room on the 7th deck and our window on the outside was filthy. I understand it is not east to clean the outside of the window but we were still disappointed. Overall my wife and I rate this cruise a 4-5/10 at best. Read Less

One of our daughters chose the line and made most of the arrangements. Her husband and I got the Cheers package. It's a reasonable deal. My biggest gripe is how long it took to get served. Captain Morgan's on Half Moon Cay was ridiculous! They had two bartenders working and we waited almost 30 minutes to get a drink! It was a little better on the beach were they had guys delivering buckets of beer. But even on the ship, around the pool, the bars were understaffed and it took way to long to get a drink. I've never been as impressed with cruise ship food as so many others seem to be. Just OK. Disembarking seemed unduly stressful. We weren't sure we were in the right place until they finally told us to go to the elevators. I'd rather fly into a destination and stay 2 or more days. Read Less

This cruise was chosen because the price was so great, you couldn't NOT go. We drove to the port and boarded the ship with no problems. The balcony cabin was large enough and the balcony itself was small but great. We enjoyed Half Moon Cay and all the beach activities. We had been there previously. We did not get off the ship in Nassau (been there too many times). The service staff were good but overworked. If you want ice in your cabin you must ask for it. The food was good but not great. Disembarkation took forever! It seemed that the Port itself was the problem and maybe the Carnival employees could use more training. Overall, we enjoy Carnival Cruises and have been on many. But it seems that service staff have been depleted. Cabin stewards work really hard. The dining staff differ as to where you are seated. Some nights were good, some not so good. Read Less

Lack of follow-up: We had a significant issue when the bar staff served alcohol to my wife, who order a virgin drink due to being allergic to alcohol. She got very sick and spent an entire evening in the cabin, missing dinner, the stage show, comedy show. She was in bed from about 6PM until the next day about 9 AM. The biggest complaint is the lack of follow up from the cruise line. On board the ship, there was no concern for my wife after the event and no follow up from on-board management. Since returning home, surveys and a phone call to Customer Care have gone unanswered. I have escalated contact over the past 6 weeks which has gone un-answered with no follow-up what-so-ever. I have been told Carnival lacks follow-up when problems arise, and I have found that to be very true, at all levels. This includes three email sent to the CEO of Carnival after other avenues were met with no response. It appears the problems at Carnival run from the top down. Embarkation/ debarkation at Jacksonville was great, quick but we paid for early embarkation. Food: The food was generally flavorless and not well seasoned. Wait staff was not on top of things, unlike other cruises we have taken. The afterhours fare on the Lido buffet was hot dogs and pizza, hardly worthy. I had to wait on line for about 20 minutes (No exaggeration) to get 2 slices of pizza. Bar service was mostly slow. Entertainment: The entertainment stage was in the middle of a hallway and entertainment often sang off key. The comics were really good though. The designated smoking area was out on deck. This is the first cruise I have been on that did not have a designated cigar bar/ smoking room inside. There was no bar staff to take care of the cigar smokers. No cigar smoking was allowed int he casino. We have taken 3 day, 4 day, 5 day, 7 day and 13 day cruises. The Elation was the worst cruise we have been on. I have been told the Carnival cruise out of Charleston (Ecstasy) has a similar reputation. Great service can overcome shortcomings. However, without great service, in any event the best is relegated to lackluster. Carnival has failed us at all levels. We had planned to book a cruise for our 25 wedding anniversary this year (2018). Failure to follow-up by Carnival has resulted in them being removed from consideration for this event. Read Less

I didn't chose this ship. I didn't know how different it would be in comparison to Fascination. The size of the vessel was not the problem at all. The service was. Nothing was on time. The staff was not that pleasant at all. Starting from the baggage, to the on deck staff. The Lido deck crew in the dining areas would walk right in front of you without so much as an excuse me. That pleasant and friendly demeanor from the Fascination was non existent. The Karaoke event was horrible. Singing with the person on the mic and just not being discipline enough to allow those of us there to enjoy the experience. Let's not talk about the way the were allowed to enter the formal dining area. No dress code it appeared. Not enough events for those who remained on board. The formal dining staff however, outstanding! Loved them. Only take Elation when you have no other experience to compare it to. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the dates and the port lined up with other plans we had. I knew that the Elation would be coming out of drydock shortly before we were to cruise, so I was excited to see what was new. Pros: Guys Burger...these guys are super nice and know how to keep a line moving! Omelette station in the morning. Blue Iguana...same as above including the omelette station in the morning. One line for tacos and one for burritos. Excellent idea! Water slides...when these are actually open it is fantastic. Not sure if the aft location is to blame (other ships I’ve been on have the slides mid-ship), but they were closed often. Imagination Dining Room...the decor is wonderful. Seems almost more crowded than before though. Maybe they added more seating with the popularity of your time dining? At least dinner didn’t take 2 hours like it has on past cruises! Waiters were attentive and friendly. Lido seating...there was always a place to sit, even on debarkation. Love the aft outdoor seating too. Half Moon Cay...just as beautiful as I had hoped. Try to stop here at least once in your cruising lifetime! Nassau...next time I think I’ll enjoy the ship that day. There isn’t a lot to offer here, especially if you’re just wanting a nice, cheap, beach day. Cons: Connecting rooms...they created some connecting rooms, and lucky for me, ours was one of them. AWFUL! We could hear everything. And I would not consider them “loud” neighbors by any means. I could hear a gentleman blow his nose. Open a soda can. Morning alarm and subsequent snoozes. Laughing. Talking. It was terrible. They must be paper thin doors. Connecting rooms mean the room layout is bad too, if it’s a room with an upper. Entertainment/Things to do...I’ve been on other classes of Carnival ships and there is a definite difference with how much there is to do. The Elation is fine if drinking and gambling are important to you, but if you are a family with preteen aged kids, you’d be better off on the Dream class (or something else above Fantasy class). My kids were NEVER bored on the Magic or Dream, but I heard about the boredom a lot on this cruise. Plus, you feel a lot more movement on the smaller ships. Cigarette smoke...the casino is near the coffee bar so every time I wanted a coffee, I had to endure the terrible smoke. There doesn’t seem to be enough ventilation around there. Sure wish Carnival could fix that. All ships have it somewhat bad, but this was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Read Less

Price was right, They have upgraded added meal options and bars on Lido deck. It does not have Alchemy but it does have a bar that serves Martinis & drinks like the Alchemy which is great. Also had new EFFY store on ship with great prices. Kevin, cruise director was a hoot. Went to PG puchline which were both very good. Room service by Japhet was excellent. Inspiration dining room service was great at times & other times think they probably could have used more help. They worked hard to keep us happy which they succeeded mostly. Maitre de did accommodated us in arranging 6 of us to 1 table. We really appreciated that. Also enjoyed the new app Fun Hub, I liked being able to isolate my favorite activities. On a bigger ship will add texting for $5 for each phone. I really enjoyed 101 on Thomas Kincade & learned a lot. And had fun with Yatzee. Next time may do more games. We had a great time & will do again. Read Less

We enjoyed this cruise very much. Embarkation was a breeze with the staff taking very good care of us. We arrived at 11:15 and with a short delay steped onto the ship by noon. Spent time checking out the refurbishment and liked what they had done with the colors of the beach theame. The showes were good although we have seen most of them on other ships. The food was average but good. Chef Trevor made some great finger food for the parties. Only a couple of things that need to be fixed. The vetilation in Tiffany's Lido resturant was very bad and the smoke from Guy's Burgers would fill it every day. It is very hard to enjoy lunch when your eyes sting. The refrigerators are not cold enough and the layout of the Ocean view cabins for clothes sucked. There are only two very small drawers and 4 shelves for clothes. The closet space is fine but the shelves show all your clothes. Love the colors and the crew was great. The CD Kevin was very funny. Read Less
