the shopping was so good! Way better than Zalando!! AND THE BOWLING ARENA WAS SO COOL!!! LOVE IT. Went on the behind the scenes tour which covered the bridge, engine control room, galley and gave a chance to understand crew life - very interesting and worth doing. Had the beverage package - if you drink wine, esecially the nice stuff, be aware that the wines available at the bars are very limited. The good wines are only available in the Sapphire/Chops Grille (and possibly Giovannis), and only by the bottle which means that you are paying 60% of the cost. So factor that in when deciding whether beverage package the right choice. Tried to to register daughter at kids club on the first night @6pm when the notices said it would be open - at 6:20pm there was a large group of us outside the kids club banging on the door - no-one there. The guys from the videa arcade rang someone who told them KC wasn't opening until 6:30. Left as tired of waiting and daughter then refused to go back. Read Less

i loved the shopping!! way better than zalando. THE BOWLING ARENA WAS SO COOL! My main gripes would be - the music round the pool was ridiculously loud - I mean OTT. I also didn't like the music for most of the time, but even when I did like it (they played some ok electonic/techno for a while) it was too loud for a family area. Maybe play some chill-out quieter for most of the day and then crank it up after 4pm? - smoking are immediately adjacent to the pool deck on starboard side - Yuck Overall the service was very good - a few staff members whose English was really not good which made it difficult, but almost everyone cheerful and friendly, said hello/good morning/afternoon. VoTS is not a very exciting boat for kids I think - it was fine for a short cruise like ours but not enough for kids to do - need water slides (I would like water slides too :-)), but overall this was good and I'd recommend for singles/couple without kids. We chose this cruise as a reunion of 3 couples after a fabulous Grand Voyage Cruise last year. After a delay in boarding due to the late arrival of the ship caused by fog we went to the buffet as we were all starving by this time. We gave them the benefit of the doubt re the quality and choice of food on the first day. Dinner in the restaurant that evening was not at all good. The bad food and bad portions continued until a meeting with the Maitre 'd and Food and Beverage manager. After that food portions were much bigger but the quality was still as bad. Breakfasts whether in the buffet or restaurants was always swimming in fat. A portion of kippers one day was no bigger than the average thumb! I could go on and on for hours re the food in buffetband restaurants ! The bar staff were superb although a distinct shortage of staff in bars at busy times therefore a long wait sometimes. We only did 2 MSC excursions which were quite expensive for basically a coach trip. Although they were enjoyable. Do some research and book them yourselves. Our rooms were good as was the cleanliness in all parts of the ship. After 3 cruises lasting 6 weeks would I hurry back to Msc probably not unless we had proof the food would be better. Read Less

I was on the repositioning cruise from Copenhagen to Genoa. Somewhere off the coast of Portugal I slipped and broke my leg. Purely an accident. The problem came, though, when the Dr. insisted it was unnecessary to do an x-ray and said my ankle was sprained. I said it was more than that. He said it wasn't and sent me to my cabin. I had to step up on my leg to get into the bathroom. I complained to the Dr. about it but was told it was fine and to take an Ibuprofen. The Dr. saw me the next day (he would only see me after we left Barcelona, rather than before or during the day). He reiterated it was just sprained and implied I was being a baby because I complained that it was more than a sprain. During the time I was confined to my cabin my meals were brought to me, at no charge. Each meal (3 times a day) was boiled chicken breast and plain white rice. I asked for water and was told I couldn't use my pre-paid coupons for water and would have to be charged for it, since I wasn't getting it from either a bar or restaurant. I insisted that when we arrived in Genoa I be taken to the hospital. The medical dept. arranged for a taxi to take me. I was taken to a private clinic where an xray showed my leg was broken. I was put back into a taxi and taken to the emergency room of the public hospital. They confirmed that my leg was broken and that I needed surgery. I had surgery, spent a week in an Italian hospital and flew home. Since then I've contacted MSC over a dozen times. Even though I've been promised return calls with an offer of resolution, it has never happened. I've emailed them documentation. No response. I was told they had to talk personally to the Chairman of the Board to resolve the situation. All I was asking for was the reimbursement of the medical fees I was charged onboard the ship. Prior to the incident, the cruise was ok but not great. On a par with Carnival. But their handling of my medical emergency is inexcusable. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the ports of call. Just returned from the worst 12 day cruise ever. The ship was nice, the guest so rude you really wouldn't believe it, pushing, shoving, telling you to get off the elevator so their family could all get in(even though you were there first). The crew were mostly unfriendly, I was asking a question to one of the supervisors, and he told me to "Be quiet and listen", he was the one NOT listening, another guest even tried to explain to him what I was taking about. The food is not edible, if it hadn't been for the bread, and eating in the ports, I would have starved. The food was luke warm, no flavor, the same thing served very morning. This Italian ship had the nerve to serve "Frankfurt Pizza". The dining room was just as bad, although the waiters were great, and would ask if they could bring us something else, because we didn't eat it. The only thing they have to drink for free is water, and coffee. They have a drink package you can buy for $26 a day. On the menu, it states that if the cruise is 8 days or more you will get a discount. We asked the person selling it to us about this and we were told yes you will get a discount. Well at the end of the cruise NO DISCOUNT was given on my account. After going to guest services, and showing them the menu, I was told that there was NO DISCOUNT, but they would give me a bottle of wine. I told them that it doesn't state I would get a bottle of wine, it states a DISCOUNT. I have contacted my credit card, and question this charge. FALSE ADVERTISING. We were on this cruise with about 350 other Americans, with a tour group, out of all them that we talked to all said that would NEVER cruise on this line again. There were a lot of other things, but it would take me all day to explain them. If you are an American, PLEASE DO NOT book a cruise on this line, you will be greatly disappointed. Read Less

The ship lounges and public areas are beautiful and very clean. The staff were very helpful and quick to attend, friendly and happy. Everyone spoke multiple languages which is amazing and apparently necessary as there were passengers from all over Europe. We loved seeing the multicultural nature of the cruise. I'm stunned that people complain about that in other reviews. Welcome to a global community! The food was very good, sometimes excellent, sometimes just good, but considering they are feeding thousands of people at once - it was remarkable. There were always healthy options as well as lots of sweet indulgences. Terrific pasta dishes The spa served some amazing healthy blended drinks and shakes and unique specialty teas. The spa/wellness area was smaller than I expected but never seemed crowded so it was fine. We chose the Aurea experience which seemed well worth it. The library was really small - maybe 50 books in English and each language. Nice casino - though we don't gamble - so don't know if it was good or not. Check in was a breeze - we walked right on, and disembarkation was the best I've ever seen on an cruise EVER! as were the crowd control strategies in general. I don't understand the negative reviews. We met some couples on the cruise that were complaining and I just didn't get it. One couple said the staff seemed unhappy - but we found them just the opposite, warm and welcoming. (Maybe you get what you put out - just sayin') We were a bit worried before we sailed due to the negative reviews - but loved every second and we're pretty fussy as I used to be a cruise director myself and had worked on ships for years. Also the ports in Norway were astounding - spectacular. We would definitely sail with MSC again. Read Less

The ship is very nice. The pools are OK. The team - excellent. No real shows at night. the food is very very bad. the lowest of the lowest quality of ingredients - for instance: the was only rice Pilaf and they try to convince us that the RIZZOTO is good. the Chops are only with fat, almost no meat. Also this is a Baltic cruise - they do not serve SALMON !!! the staff is ordered to cheat. I asked for Non paper Salami, the guy looked at the refrigerator below him and said: there is no more left. After I argued loudly, a manager came and told him to put in on the buffet. The guy, that few seconds before, pretended to look for it and said: no more left, simply pulled it out and gave it to me, without even blushing. I assume that this THE policy. and it happened again another day. They Charge a lot for the WIFI - but you hardly get a connection. They urge NOT to leave tip to the staff that you meet, and they collect AUTOMATICALLY 10 Euro per day per person for this purpose - BUT - do not tell you that this is optional and you can ask not to deduct, and from randomly asking staff people if they get TIPS from Management - all of them said NO. which means that the money went to others. I have many more examples. my recommendation - skip MSC. try others - they are much better (from Experience) Read Less

The Magnific Cruise have a very good general conditions. The crew is very kindly and attentive, whatever we need they were always ready to serve. The entertainement shows are diversify and of with high quality (dance, music, acrobatics, humor, opera). The meals at restaurant and buffet are for all tastes and with good quality. The buffet is open 21h a day. Since outside was a bit cold and windy we use the interior swimming pool and jacuzi. Our kids could do an "indepent" life since have own programs and we fell safe on board. The possibility to stop and visit 6 different cities of 5 different countries is an amazing experience. The top city was San Petersburg, with a grandious buildings, cathedral and great art museum as Ermitage - just great. It was our first cruise and generally we love it. We recomend for family, friends and honey moon holidays. Read Less

This was my first time cruising with MSC - the ship was adequate, the Magnifica - friendly and couldnt complain about my room - however the food was awful . We were on the first sitting at the Quattro Venti restaurant every night and it was inedible most nights, - if it wasnt for Anton our absolutely fabulous gentleman of a waiter, I would never have gone back after the first night, - the meat dishes were awful and there just wasnt enough of anything . The buffet was hit and miss, some days it was tasty but there was very little by way of a chicken dish, no curries, or foods of the world, - and at night , after9pm only pizza was available, so for that reason I would use MSC again, but only as a last resort .They are not even at the races compared with Norwegian Cruise lines, - however I want to mention in particular the Bar staff, and my cabin man, Stevie for his kindness and constant attention, Irina, Rosanna, Agur and all the bar staff who made us delicious cocktails and could not have been kinder. Kids seem to have a great time generally and I felt very safe on the ship all times . The dancers were fabulous every night but there was very little variety by way of entertainment - . My overall view is that YES I would travel with MSC again BUT PLEASE- update your menus and improve the awful food. Read Less

First time with MSC. We found the Baltic itinerary well-balanced with four ports and two sea days. Fellow cruisers for this cruise were overwhelmingly German and Italian, and in the age group 55+. This would seem to have an influence on the entertainment, for example (see below). We had an Aurea balcony cabin and found it very comfortable and clean. Storage space was ample (with loads of drawers that all needed double-checking when it was time to leave!) but there were relatively few clothes hangers provided, especially for four of us. Would take some extra hangers with us next time. When the sofa is made up into a bed, it is virtually impossible to use the balcony or access the drawers in the desk. The bathroom was adequate, and also had lots of storage space. No towel animals! The kids were disappointed... but were treated to serviette animals practically every evening at dinner. We found staff to be friendly and helpful throughout the ship. Waiting lines at some bars were quite long and bar staff seemed frazzled at times. The pool areas (indoor and out) were well-maintained and had staff on duty to watch over them and eject kids from the whirlpools who were there without parental supervision. True to other reviews here, buffet food was average to below-average. The selection at dinner in particular was poor. Six nights out of seven we ate in the main dining room, where service was good and the food was more than satisfactory. On one night, service was very slow and dinner took almost two hours to get through but that was an exception and staff were generally very attentive. Both kids (5 and 9) were enrolled in kids' club and found it less enticing as the other kids' clubs they've experienced. On the negative side, the range of activities is not as wide, and signing in and out can be very chaotic. On the positive side, the kids' club staff were super friendly, and we were able to leave the kids on board all day free-of-charge while we toured the ports (kids' choice, not ours!). The biggest problem we had with the kids' club was that there is compulsory dinnertime at 8pm for all kids taking part in the evening programme. This is much too late for our starvos, who are used to eating at 6pm or so, and is possibly geared more towards children from southern climes who tend to eat dinner later in the evening. There is no alternative and meant that our kids, who had already eaten with us, were very uninterested in the evening programme. Entertainment in the theatre was, in contrast to other cruise lines we have experienced, a variety show every night rather than a different show every night, i.e. instead of a musical tonight, an acrobatic act tomorrow, and a concert the next, it was a mix of everything each night under a different theme. This had the disadvantage of losing its appeal after the third or fourth night... but the kids enjoyed it and you could see it has having the advantage of being something for everyone night after night. Some of the acts were excellent but it's hard to come up with something new every night of a 7-night cruise. Unfortunately the live music acts, particularly in the Tiger Bar, were well-below par. In the early evenings before the second theatre show, in particular, the Tiger bar is the place to sit, have a drink and pass the time before moving into the adjacent theatre... and the two live music acts were absolutely horrible. Who on earth booked these acts and decided to subject passengers to them for an entire week? Both – one, two old blokes and a female singer, and the other, a female singer with her partner on a keyboard – were not only woefully old-fashioned (think 70s gameshow background music) but also utterly lack both talent and showmanship. Their obvious lack of enthusiasm (no effort with regard to costume, performance or repertoire) was sadly reflected in the audience's muted appreciation and the complete lack of atmosphere in what should be the ship's main lounge. Given our fellow guests relatively high average age and strong German bias on this itinerary (we ourselves are from Germany), one can only assume that this was a play to an older, Germanic audience... but it bombed big-time. The silver-lining: after a few cocktails, it was so bad that it was funny. Hardly used the spa – had just one massage, performed by a bored masseuse with an obvious talent for upselling. Vowed not to go back. Others have commented on the multilingual announcements getting on their nerves. We didn't find this a problem at all and were positively surprised by the lack of "Good morning and welcome to..." ship-wide announcements at 7am as on some other ships we've been on (very unwelcome after a late night). Our experience was generally very positive and we've already booked another cruise on this ship. Read Less
