I chose Epic because when I was booking i was going to be a solo traveller (however I ended up with 3 friends joining me ). I had a studio cabin on my own as none of us wanted to share our rooms. The cruise was nothing short of fabulous . I loved every minute of it. My tips are: - the shampoo/conditioner is great for shampooing your hair but not for conditioning your hair - take your own - the hairdryer is fabulous- dont worry about taking one - attend the solo mingle each day in the studio lounge- different people seem to go each day so I met different people most nights - stay in a solo cabin because then you have full access to the studio lounge where others hang out. One girl staying in a balcony was told she couldn’t come in except for the solo gatherings which she was a bit sad about Read Less

We had been on a prior criuse with NCL to Bermuda. This was so much nicer with great staff and wonderful food. The cabin could have been a little bigger because the space between the bed and counter was very narrow. The balcony was big and had two chairs and a small table. No problem with the shower or toilet area. Really don't understand the people that complained about this. Entertainment was very professional and no problem getting a seat. The food was really good, we did choose the upgraded three dinner package. All the restaurants were top notch. The NCL tour was really good and the tour guide Roseanna was very informative about the history and the countryside. It was better than we expected. The smoking is now confined to a small area which makes for a better experience. The ,transportation to the ship and return was well run. Overall a really nice vacation. Read Less

We choose the Epic because our friends were going and we were asked to join them as opposed to our normal Palace Resorts trips in the caribbean or Mexico this year. Never again. The staff was great but the nickel/dime concept of the trip was crazy. Everything from bourbon, shrimp cocktails and the list goes on is upcharged. For them to also advertise an excursion day when we actually only have 2 hours to enjoy the day is wrong. When they did bring us to their exclusive island for an excursion day everything was additional cash payment including canopies, umbrellas, floats, snorkel gear and drinks. So the one day they let us spend the entire day on their island became a cash holdup. Not for me and for the price we paid. The staff and the crew were great but the room was noticeably tiny and so narrow 2 people could not pass by each other which seemed way smaller then the ships I have traveled on with Royal. The food was great also but every time you looked there were added upcharges. We had the unlimited drink package only to find out many types of beverages where not included such as specialty coffees served throughout the ship! A shot of Makers Mark would have costed $18 as there is an upcharge. We learned you have to buy the coffee package also. If you see the Le Circ show you get totally robbed of a specialty dining upgrade and also upcharged us $48 extra to see the show. They stayed up late to think of that ripoff. DONE NCL Read Less

This was a sort of last minute cruise (booked end of January for 3/30-4/6 cruise). Despite all that was happening in regards to the Epic, we were going on this cruise to relax and that we did. Embarkation: We pulled into the pier parking lot at 10:10, dropped off are luggage, breezed thru security and check in (boarding group 10)and took a seat to wait. At 11:00 they announced that embarking was delayed due to passengers from prior cruise still being on the ship. Most likely caused by the facial recognition they were using when disembarked. With all that, we were on the ship, in our swimsuits in H2O with a drink at 12:30. Ports: Did not get off the ship in Tortola or St. Thomas as we had done those before. We were able to stop at Great Stirrup Cay. We had tender in group 2 and from time they called our group til we got on the island was 35 minutes. Island was nice, just chilled on the beach as water was a little colder than we like. Food was ok and beverage service was great. We spent most of our days at Spice H2O as we did not get off in 2 of the ports. Did not have problem getting chairs but we were there by 7:30 (we had the continental breakfast delivered at 6:30 every morning). It did get crowded on the sea days and by 10:00 you were hard pressed to find a chair. Never had to wait more than 5 min. for drinks at bar and most times the waiters coming around took our orders . Food: ate at Taste 5 of the nights and never took more than an hour. Food was good except for last night. Prime Rib was ehh. Not a problem just got something at buffett. Room steward took care of our needs. Disembarkation: Best I have experienced. Must have had the facial recognition figured out. Had a 9:00 disembark time. Had breakfast at buffett and went to public area to wait at 8:15. Called our color at 8:25 and were in our car leaving the parking lot at 9:03. Once got thru facial recognition you were considered thru customs. Was a great trip and would sail Epic again Read Less

I will start out with the positive... getting onto the ship was a breeze. The last time we sailed from NY it was a complete disaster so I was super pleased with the level of professionalism and efficiency from all involved. Walking into the ship it was clean, inviting and exciting. As always we made a quick dash to get band for the “vibe” or on this ship “posh” Our very first cruise was I. This ship so I was excited to sail on it again. We were able to get to our stateroom very quickly and bags arrived in a fairly timely manner. Upon meeting our cabin steward he was one of the best we have ever had. Not the least bit overbearing and always did a phenomenal job. We had booked 2 special days for our parents for their anniversary and my mother’s birthday. He excited both with precision and detail which we so greatly appreciated. When we were settled my family and I all decided to check out the posh as we like to spend a good chunk of our time there. From the get go there was not a good vibe up there, pun intended. Normally the staff is always happy smiling and knew our names by the second day. This was not the case with posh. We get this “upgrade” so we always have a place to go for some quiet and that extra special service. The space was loud because of its close proximity to the main pool deck. We were brought water only once and never offered a cocktail or fruit plate. Each time We wanted a refill on water or a cocktail we would have to get up and go to the bar and order and retrieve it ourselves. While not the end of the world I found myself questioning why we paid extra for essentially nothing. On top of that the staff was not friendly there. I was highly disappointed and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Waiting at all bars was almost unbearable but I do understand that there are only so many bartenders and many guests in the ship. When checking into Le Bistro we were again met with an unfriendly face. The hostess did not seem accommodating or kind at all. When dining we decided to indulge in a bottle of wine not included in our package. The sommelier was one the most knowledgeable and kind we have ever met. He absolutely made our experience at Le Bistro much better. Without him the meal would have been sub par. The dealers in the casino were great fun. I found myself looking for the same ones day and night as they made the experience of losing money a little but better with their humor and small talk. I decided one night to use the salon for a blowout. I scheduled the appointment for 730 so I would have enough time to get ready before dinner. After waiting 20 minutes after checking in I approached the front desk to see what the deal was. I was met with “oh no one came for you yet?” After attempting to reschedule for the next day, the stylist irina appeared. From my understanding of my talk with both the front desk and Irina, I was double booked with another haircut she was performing before me. I once again did not feel like I was a priority in the least bit. She styled my hair and I was able to make dinner by the skin of my teeth. I must say that experience was extremely disappointing to me. Bar service in the casino was also extremely lack luster, however the male and female bartenders at the casino bar were beyond kind and committed my name and drink order to memory. Priscilla queen of the desert was a highlight of the cruise. The cast was PHENOMENAL. We were lucky enough to meet some of the cast and they were so kind. As regular cruiser we look forward to meeting other LGBT friends at the Friends Of Dorothy gathering. The name change of the meeting is not my favorite. The location for the meeting this cruise was not the most desired spot, we much preferred it when it was held at shakers. One of the most disappointing things to happen was at great stirrup cay. One of the main reasons I went on this cruise was to swim with the pigs. I understand that the tide is beyond NCLs control but a warning of such might have been nice before we went to check In. The Epics layout overall is not my favorite and I’m happy to see that other ships have not been modeled after it. Overall the cruise was ok, nothing to write home about. As loyal NCL cruisers we will return as guests but I think we may explore other lines after the lack of customer service. Read Less

My friend was turning 50 so we got together for the cruise. The embarkation and disembarkation were the worst part of the trip. It took a long time and I felt sorry for older people and those with small children waiting so long in line. The entertainment was very good. We saw Priscilla, Burn the Floor and the comedians three times. I found the air conditioning very cold and as I spent a lot of time indoors I did not feel as if I was down south at all. The only outdoor space is really deck 15 and up with the pools. The loungers were all taken most of the time so we didn't stay there. It would be nice if there was an outdoor public quiet area just to sit and read and have a drink. We would go to a bar to get drinks and then go back to our room and balcony. The complimentary dining was very good mostly. We enjoyed Taste for breakfast as opposed to the buffet. The staff were all very amiable. Our stateroom housekeeper was very pleasant and happy to help with requests and questions. Our excursion in Tortola was informative and fun. The hour at the beach was great. Wish we could have stayed longer. We had an excursion booked for Great Stirrup Cay but it was cancelled because of weather conditions. Overall it was a good first time cruise experience. If we went again I would book restaurants in advance and maybe another excursion. For sure I would book a room with a balcony. I thought I might feel seasick but I didn't. I did feel the motion of the ship but it was gentle. Read Less

This cruise was chosen by the parents of our honorary grandchildren, with whom we sailed, based on price and timing during school vacation. We've all been to both Tortola and St. Thomas before. We were overjoyed to be invited along, and were fortunate enough to win an upgrade to a balcony room. Unfortunately, There was no room in the room for my mobility scooter AT ALL. Indeed GETTING to the room was a challenge for both me and the stateroom host who tried to park it the first night, so I ended up taking it to guest services on deck 5 to park it. I went to get it on the last morning, and they had "lost it". We waited nearly 3 hours and it was not found. at 6:30 that night I got a call it had been found - could I come get it? Really? I was 450 long miles away by then. I still don't have it back. So far they haven't handled it well. THAT experience has cast a negative aura over an otherwise pretty good experience. Our previous cruises have all been with Disney. Even our inside staterooms with them have been larger than this one was. The younger granddaughter declined to go to the kids club because it was too childish for her - she's mentally older than the older one and into crafts, music and science, not "playing". The older grand went to "Entourage" occasionally, but they both mostly hung with their pals, or gasp THE FAMILY! We ate in two specialty restaurants and Cirque. All were stellar. I LOVE free style dining mUCH better than rotational. This is the area where this cruise beat out Disney. Except for Osheneagans or what ever the pub was - we ate there the first night and it was dreadful. We went up to the buffet and ate again. Other than Cirque and the Beatles, I wasn't in love with the entertainment. The gentlemen certainly enjoyed the rather scanty costumes on the female performers. The children loved the theatrics of all of it. (Same reaction they had to the Disney shows on previous cruises - content didn't matter, apparently) Did NOT like the crowds around the pools - there wasn't sufficient shade, it was hard to get around due to sheer volume, and if you wanted any kind of seating you'd better be up there before 7 am. Only loungers and no chairs except in the dining area. MAJOR FAIL. Our family waited 3 hours in line to board the ship. MAJOR FAIL. Read Less

We chose Norwegian because we had not sailed with them before and had big time expectations since we’ve sailed several times on their cheaper competitors. In many ways they delivered on our high expectations and on others not so much. We arrived at the port a couple hours before embarking. The lines were very long but we were near the front luckily. When the embarkation process started, it went very smoothly with no problems at all. After standing still waiting for the process to start for an hour, once it started moving, we were aboard 30 min later. Our first impressions of the ship was this was a really nice one and super clean. We were immediately offered a couple sprays of disinfectant and saw several automatic dispenser stationed around the ship. We made our way to our cabin on the 12th floor. It was exactly what we expected. Maybe a little odd to have the toilet and shower kinda out in the open each using frosted glass. This area can be curtained off to separate from the rest of room. We found the storage to be plentiful with cabinets all over and high and low. The bed was comfortable and big enough for a couple adults. In case an additional sleeping spot is needed, the couch can roll out into a narrow bed. We really enjoyed just how dark the room could be when the curtains were shut. The balcony was also exactly what I expected, not too big or too small. We were excited to hit the buffet and bar so we head to the garden cafe on 15. As we walk towards it, we are offered hand disinfectant from the happiest human we’ve ever met. She becomes a very quotable person by several patrons. As she so happily sprays away the germs, she says “washy washy, happy happy” with a big genuine smile. The staff was accommodating and friendly and professional! The food options are nice for just about any dietary restrictions/desires/preferences. However as much as we would like to rave about the food, it was only ok in our opinions. The highlight was Teppanyaki - we didn’t try the steakhouse or Italian restaurant. It was overpriced for the quality of food. By no means are we foodies, but the value just wasn’t there. Cons... Outdoor bars during “at sea days” were super crowded (a couple rows deep) but the indoor bars didn’t have a wait. Beware - lounge chairs are VERY limited on “at sea days”. Get out there early to claim yours! They only offer laundry service - no washers & dryers avail for guests. Communication could have been better for the following THREE things: embarkation (waiting an hour due to prior cruise having trouble getting off boat - facial recognition issue), tendering to private island (1hr wait with zero communication as to why and what the procedure was), and disembarkation (we choose the earliest at 0700 but had zero guidance as to what floor or where to get in line... the line went in a complete circle from the back of ship to the front and we disembarked from the back. It was chaos! We didn’t know where to go or how long we would be waiting, once there. Our last gripe is a big one. The duration at port in st Thomas was drastically too short. Our excursion to St. John and trunk bay was excellent but it took up the entire time. We got back at 1pm and stood in line to board the ship by 1:30. We had no time to pick up a souvenir. The comedians were great and the broadway show (about drag queens) was quality but a touch on the inappropriate side. Overall we enjoyed, and while we would keep our options open to trying a different cruise line, we would go again in the future. Read Less

A group of 8 friends booked this cruise together. Our rooms were close to one another which was very convenient. My husband & I were extremely pleased with the comfort, cleanliness, and daily tending of our room by Francisco. He was superb. Other than the Brazilian style restaurant, Moderno, which was a huge disappointment regarding service and quantity & quality of food, all other dining was excellent. The shows we attended were very good to excellent, especially Cirque Dreams. Not only was the show wonderful, the meal was delicious!! We were never without wonderful onboard options for dining, drinks, and entertainment! Two primary criticisms were regarding the excursion on St. Thomas and the boarding and disembarking. The St. Thomas excursion was to be a 2 hour tour of the island. In fact, we were driven to two shopping stops, one for a 15 min. stop, then on to the 2nd stop, a 45 min. stop. Not much of a countryside tour! The process of getting on & off the ship was tedious, long, super crowded, and all together unpleasant. However, overall we rate the cruise very good, but are not in a hurry to go again soon. Read Less

We choose this cruise for my daughters senior trip. Since it was spring break, we knew we would pay higher than normal rates, which is to be expected during spring break. We had fantastic weather the entire trip. The ship was well run and the staff was very pleasant. Our room was always made up and turned down as indicated on our door wheel. We never had to wait for our room to be ready. We were cruising with platinum members so they knew all the ropes, so I knew what to expect. My daughter had the best time meeting other teens in the teen club, Entourage. I do have a few suggestions for this ship. 1. More outlets are needed in the room since there are no USB charging ports in the rooms. 2. There are no clocks in the room either. 3. At night when you pull your key card out of the slot and the lights go out, it’s hard to find your way to the bathroom at night. 4. Garbage cans are needed in the main parts of the ship. When you gets a soda in a plastic glass there is no where to throw it away when you’re done. 5. Then tendering process to the private island could be improved. The line was so long that it wrapped from the back of the ship to the front. 6. Because we were traveling with platinum members, we were almost first to board the ship and we made a beeline for guest services to book the Posh Club. We were told that it was already booked up, although you could not book it until you got on the ship. We were very disappointed, since we were almost first onto the ship and thought for sure that we would be able to book it. 7. For the days at sea, you could find chairs, although they were not by the pool. Pool chairs were gone by very early mornings. 8. I heard several passengers say that they had never been on a ship that rocked so much. But in my opinion, I’ve never been on a ship that I couldn’t feel rocking. 9. I wish we had a longer stay on St. Thomas (we set sail at 2:00) and less time on Tortola (we were supposed to set sail at 6:00, but had some maintenance issues and did not leave until 10:00 pm). 10. The comedy club was so full, we could not get in. Read Less

Oh if you didn't realize the ship was extremely crowded!! It was during kids Spring Break time, so being somewhat crowded was to be expected. That said, the venues such as Headliner's comedy club and the like were ridiculous (had to be there about 30 minutes prior to get a seat). The Ship is starting to show it's age and is certainly not on the same level as some of the other newer NCL ships. Any cruise you will have a good time, and this was no exception-as we all had a very good time. The waterslides (especially the "toilet bowl" slide is great). The comedy shows and Howl at the Moon are very entertaining (if you get a seat). The kids club isn't as good as the other NCL ship we had been on (Escape) and certainly not on par with Disney's kids club. The dining was average at best, which includes the buffet, main dining (Taste) and specialty restaurants (La Cucina was below average, Moderno was very good and Teppanyaki was excellent). The pool was way too warm to be enjoyable and the chairs were hard to come by. Read Less

Embarkation: We arrived at the port about 10:30 a.m. Embarkation was delayed by at least an hour. Boarding did not start until noon. There were some people not on the ship until 2:30 or even a little later. We were never told the reason. Ship: We had cruised on the Epic 5 years prior. While still nice and clean you can see the wear and tear. The spa has lights out over the water, drapes are a little frayed, paint isn't as fresh, etc. Spa: The spa area is still a really nice oasis away from the crowds. However the heated lounges aren't really heated anymore. Most aren't even warm to the touch. We were told something about someone being burned is why they turned them down. However, they still should be warm. You can also see the wear in here. There are lights above the water area that need to be replaced. Food: Buffet was ok. Not great but not bad either. There was an Indian chickpea dish we had here that was one of the best things we had on the ship. Cagney's food was good. However it took us 2 1/2 hours to eat there. That was excessive. Taste was fine. Service was good. La Bistro was very good. Service was great. Food was really good. Probably the best steak on the ship. Moderno was better than I remember. Not as good as a Fogo De Chao but still pretty good. The salad bar was very impressive. Cirque food was really good. Manhattan room was fine. We were sat right up by the piano so it was hard to converse. We found that some of the best food we had was when we went away from the American type foods and tried "international" dishes. Entertainment: The Beatles band was great. If you like that type of music I highly recommend you see them. Priscilla was good. It's not my type of story line. However the costumes and production values were evident. Definitely make sure you are ok with the subject matter before you attend. NOT for kids. They make that very evident but I guess people still don't heed that warning. Cirque was good. We had a issues with a couple of the acts. If the performer(s) would take off one more article of clothing it would have been an act we could have seen at a strip club. If that is the type of acts they want in the show that's fine, however, they need to make that clear like they did with Priscilla. We had grandma and our 9 year old with us. Needless to say it was uncomfortable for a few minutes. Bars: The bars are slammed. Granted we were on a spring break cruise but this was after the college spring break. There were almost no college kids on our cruise. Mostly families with kids. Getting drinks on sea days and at the bars / clubs at night can be a 15 - 20 minute ordeal. I'm not sure what NCL is going to do about it. Some of the staff have started giving you 2 - 4 drinks at a time to try and keep you happy. However, most of the time, they will be warm/melted by the time you get to them. So you end up wasting them and getting another cold one. Kids area: Not sure why but our son really wasn't all that interested in going. It may have been due to the fact that the group was 7 - 9. And he's a month away from being 10. Or maybe since granny was on the cruise and he could hang out with her. On a previous cruise 2 years ago, he would be mad if we wouldn't take him. So we're not sure what happened there. Ports: Tortola We went to the Baths. This was awesome. It is a physically demanding excursion. But if you are up to it, well worth it. They are still rebuilding much of the area. The port area isn't all that built up like some we have been to. St. Thomas We only had 6 hours in port so we didn't do much. Went up to the top of the Mountain had a bushwacker (great!) and enjoyed the view. The do now have a small brewery in the shopping village. If you're into that sort of thing, I'd stop by and have a beer before you leave. Private Island We splurged and got a cabana. I felt it was worth it. One issue we had was the tendering to the island. We kept being told since a Cabana was considered and excursion, we'd get priority tendering. Well that didn't happen. We walked down the stairs when they started calling and then waited in line for 45 minutes before boarding a tender. My wife even went to the excursion desk to ask while I waited. They just said get in line. Overall I'd say it was a good cruise. I'd still sail on the Epic again if it all worked out. However, it's also not something I'd really try to seek out to do either. I also think the drink package - which we use - has created too many drunk idiots running around on board. Never cruise during spring break or any other time school is out unless you are forced to cruise with children. haha There were unsupervised children at bars, casino, shirtless in public areas, etc. Inadequate bar staff at the pools; rarely found a chair near the pool; you have to go thru the casino to go from one side to the other on deck 6. Getting on/off the ship was a challenge and time consuming. Service at Taste for breakfast was inconsistent. the entertainment was outstanding. Specialty dining was excellent. Stopping for only 6 hours in St. Thomas didn't leave much time to do anything. Read Less

I want to start this off by saying that this was our first cruise. We sailed with friends who have cruised several times previous and so we had expectations of what we would experience. We were super excited for this cruise, and were really amped for the experience. We did book through a travel agent, so I can't comment on ease of booking because we had a fantastic agent who took care of everything and was really awesome at communicating the process. Boarding (embarkation?): SLOWWWW and long LONG lines, bring your patience and your comfy shoes. This took absolutely forever. The staff guiding us to where we needed to go during this process was, however, very pleasant and helpful. I was not ready for a photographer when we waked onto the gangway, but I'll chalk that one up to rookie ignorance. Ship: First impression was that the ship was clean, but dated interior. Smelled TERRIBLE like cigarettes when we got on. There were several black marks on the walls etc., and it seemed like everything we touched was sticky... but to be fair, we are cruising at spring break time and kids are messy. Thank goodness for the abundance of hand washing stations!! Cabin: When we were finally able to get into our cabins around 5pm, it was about what we expected, I think. I had done a lot of youtubing on this ship, so the cabin was no surprise. What we later discovered, however, was that literally everything in this cabin rattled. Bring paper with you to stick in places to stop the rattling. We also had a broken cabinet door that rattled and swung around. Shower and toilet area are small and odd with no privacy, but not a big deal. What was a big deal was that our shower leaked when we used it and flooded our floor. We called maintenance which took forever and they did something to fix the shower and stuck a big fan in our room and left it there for two days. I finally couldn't take the noise of it anymore, though our carpet wasn't dry, and set it back out in the hallway where it sat for another whole day. Fun stuff. The bed was another situation, terribly uncomfortable, we didn't expect luxury, but I also didn't expect a thin pad on a steel mesh frame. Killer on my back, and my husband's shoulders. Our room steward was very kind, though, and did a great job of taking care of our room as best he could. Dining: Better than expected, we felt like we had a lot of options here and we really had a good experience as far as food goes. The food at Cirque was the best, really great. We didn't do any specialty dining other than cirque because we were happy to stick with the restaurants included with our package. Service could have been better at all of these places that we went, but we felt like the boat was chronically understaffed and poorly managed. It almost seemed like the wait staff that we had were reluctant to provide anything beyond the absolute basics. We had very little by way of exceptional service on this trip, which is the opposite of what I expected. I am regretful that gratuities were included at all in anything. Perhaps there would have been more effort if there wasn't a guaranteed tip? I don't know, but it was bad. Entertainment and activities: Here I felt like Epic did one thing almost right. The entertainment was great on this ship. We saw Burn the Floor, Priscilla, and Cirque and all were amazing. We also attended several other entertainments. Our biggest complaint here was that the venues were too small. If you wanted to watch a comedy act or howl at the moon, you had to be in line an hour before they opened the doors or you weren't getting in or getting a seat. There was minimal wait staff at these venues also, and at one point, I stood in line at the bar for almost 40 minutes waiting to be served by the one bartender. I can't stress enough how understaffed this boat is. We were in bliss nightclub one night for Karaoke and there was one waiter in there and he was borderline angry, probably because he was trying to take care of a LOT of people by himself. At cirque, we didn't see another waiter after our food was removed so I could order another glass of wine, so I had wine with dinner, and after that nothing. Service: BAD! SO BAD!! We saw 3 waiters around the pool area the whole time we were there, lines at all of the bars were long and slow. Wait staff was largely cranky and overworked. Tipping got us nothing but an MIA waiter. This is not at all what I expected. I have always heard what a phenomenal experience everyone has with waiters on their cruises, and we did not have that. It was difficult at best to get a drink. and we finally just gave up. I'm sure it was a measure to keep costs down and get maximum gain from drink packages. All it accomplished as far as we are concerned is to convince us to NEVER cruise with NCL again. We had to wait in lines for everything on this boat and they do NOT honor reservations, so just jump in line if you want to eat, see a show, get on a tender, etc... reservations mean nothing at all except that you are going to wait until all the line jumpers have gotten through. Ports and shore excursions: Total waste. Tortola: We did a zip line in Tortola that we paid about $150 for, and it just went back and forth over a gully. The view was great, but it was done in about 15 minutes. It was not at ALL what was advertised. We were at this trashed out house out in the middle of nowhere and had to wait about an hour for our ride to come get us for our tour. After the tour, there is literally nothing to do other than go to a few junky stores, so we just got back on the boat. The island is still recovering from a devastating hurricane, so this may not be typical, but it didn't really feel safe to wander around, so we didn't. St Thomas: We did the Kon Tiki Raft, which ended up taking up most of our very short time in port here. We would have liked more time but it wasn't in the itinerary. Great Stirrup Cay: By noon, our tender number still wasn't called, so we went to the Epic Theater where we realized they were just letting everyone board tenders on a first come first serve basis. WHY make reservations if this is how you are doing it? We were told our tender would be called by 9, they still hadn't called us by noon, so we just got in line like everyone else and had very little time after we got on the island. They were already closing up lunch and bars when we got there and we had to walk forever to find a lounge chair. Again, another total waste of a day. Overall, this was a really disappointing experience. We will try cruising with another line, because we had fun with our friends and have heard fantastic reviews about Carnival, but NCL can kiss our business goodbye. Read Less

Very disappointed in this cruise. Booked a last minute vacation and regret not reading more reviews before choosing this cruise line and specifically this ship. The Epic is small for the amount of people on board. With my father using a walker, it was especially hard to navigate many of the public areas, and even getting in/out of our stateroom was challenging as he couldn't fit the walker through the doorway especially well. Deck 15, home of the pools and buffet, was ridiculously crowded and using the pools/finding a chair/walking leisurely about the deck was just about impossible. We managed to use the pools twice, once first thing in the morning, and already many of the chairs in the adult area had towels on them, and the second time while we were at a port with most people off the ship. The smell at the adult pool was disgusting as it got all of the fumes/smoke from the smokestack. One of the more pleasant areas we found was deck 7's jogging path, it was significantly less crowded although there was a bad odor there as well. The primary reason for the poor review was the terrible service and general setup of the "Freestyle" dining experience. We didn't know that to enjoy "freestyle", it really meant you had to make reservations to eat in the main dining room if you wanted to (hopefully) eat at the time you wanted. Once we figured out that you needed to make reservations, we went ahead and did so, only to find at the Manhattan dining room, men need to wear pants and a collared shirt but ladies could wear whatever they wanted. We were turned away for the reservation we had made as we weren't aware of this and they only hold your reservation for 15 minutes following your scheduled time. We then had to go to Taste and wait for a table there instead. We had one good server (Milton) for two nights of the cruise, every other meal including both breakfast and lunch left a lot to be desired. Coffee that you ordered to have with your dessert was delivered after you had already finished your dessert and were about ready to leave. At Shanghai we arrived at opening, but waited over 50 minutes after being seated for our appetizer and over an hour for our meals. At at least two of the restaurants, our appetizers were served with our main course (Oshehans for sure and possibly Taste). The food itself was hit and miss, with mostly misses. We ordered three pina coladas at the poolside bar and received one that tasted just right and two that tasted terrible. We brought our concerns to Ivan (Restaurant Manager), and he provided us with a round of correctly made pina coladas and made our dinner reservations for the remainder of the cruise, but that hardly made up for the grumpy/slow waitstaff. When we finally had Milton as our server, we requested that he be our server for the remainder of the cruise and were assured that that wouldn't be a problem; however, the very next night, the host/hostess seated us at the wrong table (all the way across the restaurant from Milton's tables). They did get us seated correctly the last night. I expected a higher quality and level of service than we have received on prior Carnival cruises (which were actually great, but they didn't have a cruise for the timeframe we needed at the last minute), but instead we paid more for absolutely terrible service. Extremely disappointed that my money was wasted on this cruise. It wasn't our first cruise and it won't be our last, but it will be our last with Norwegian. Read Less

We were first time cruisers and picked NCL for the freestyle cruise option and free drink package. We should have done more research! The boat is very clean and most staff was very pleasant and helpful but are overworked. The kids program was terrible and more like a poor daycare with not much going on. Our kids hated it! Pools were small and if you weren’t up on the deck by 6 am you wouldn’t get a seat! Never saw the cruise director, not much really going on. If you are prone to motion sickness this is not your ship! It moves and rocks a lot! Customer service was terrible and did nothing to help anything. The stops were poor as in St. Thomas you barely had three hours. The stop at NCL’s own island was the worst. The tender process was not explained and was grossly unorganized and took forever. We didn’t get to the island until after noon after we spent three hours waiting inside the theater for the tender boat. When we did get there no chairs or shade were available and the lines for food and drinks were over an hour long. This is NCL’s island you would think they have a better handle on this. Customer service did not care to hear any complaints or do anything. Disembarking on the last day was also Completely a mess. None of the staff knew what was going on and no communication with guests was given. Staff were rude and flat out ignored questions asked directly to them. We will most likely never do a cruise with NCL again. Seems like the other cruise lines offer much more. We were very disappointed in this vacation which was also our honeymoon. Please do a lot of research before choosing this cruise line and ship. Read Less

Highlights: 1. Being with friends 2. Putu (steward) did a great job for us. 3. Jennifer and Mary in the spa did a great job for us. 4. Coki Beach in St. Thomas Things I didn't expect: 1. Having to wait in line for almost everything. 2. Not having wait staff taking drink orders with any regular/predictable pattern. 3. Not being able to find seating on the deck without "reserving" it with a towel at 7:00 AM. Not having enough shaded seating. Having to sit within 18 inches of someone at all times. 4. Inconsistent information. Asked Guest Services about reserving an umbrella/clamshell on GSC. They said to do so on the island. I got to the island and they said I'd needed to do so on the boat. Not having enough shade on an NCL-owned island. A very limited number of cabanas. 5. Having to wait in even LONGER lines on GSC than the long lines on the boat. 6. Being unable to get a reservation for anything unless I did so 12+ hours prior desired time. 7. Taking three hours to tender to GSC without any indication as to how long it would take. Spent three hours waiting in my stateroom hoping to hear our tender be called. Instead of going to my tender, going to a theater to wait even longer for my tender. 8. Taking an hour to get off the boat. I feel lucky that it only took that long. I was smart enough to get on an empty elevator going up...and then rode it back down. Stopped at every floor only to see people waiting but unable to get on elevators that were completely full. 9. The food being "OK." I hear all the time from experienced cruisers how they love the food. The food in the Garden Cafe was OK. It wasn't good, nor was it bad. It was OK. It was a cafeteria. I was standing in line with a tray in my hand. It reminds me of the Air Force cafeterias I have to eat in. All-in-all, the experience was at best "fair" with some highlights. Much of it was less than "fair." It did not sell me on the cruises as a vacation or on NCL. I've no frame of reference (first cruise...and likely my last), so maybe my expectations were too high. I simply couldn't believe how crowded and loud every spot of the ship was, how long I had to stand in lines, how the food was "OK," and how the processes (i.e., tendering, disembarking, etc.) can be so poor. Took family to see the Caribbean. Returned from our seven day cruise on the Norwegian Epic Saturday and it was truly an epic failure. Right from the beginning it was off to a bad start and it never recovered. We were hours late boarding and not one offer of an apology or explanation. The ship could have been so majestic but it really isn’t taken care of. It’s filthy and things are broken and rundown all over the ship. Drink stations were not kept supplied and never kept with ice. However, the bars were running over with ice. The glasses were small juice glasses and I don’t know how people are to stay hydrated with 3 ounces of warm water at a time. The workers throughout the ship continued to display a lack of regard for its passengers. Aside from a handful of employees (wakie, wakie, happy, happy, washie, washie) the ships moral is horrid. They could use a good dose of customer service training. No information is made available as to how to go about doing most anything and the customer service desk doesn’t have a clue as to how to help, nor do they want to. We were berated at the hostess desk the first night at dinner because they didn’t have our dinner reservations that had been made in November. However, we were told that just once we would be offered a favor and be allowed to dine. Favor? WOW! I’m going to do Norwegian a favor and never book another cruise with them again nor will I recommend them to anyone I know. We will continue to sail with Disney as we do every year because they know how to keep a ship, ship shape, clean, not rundown or broken and their customer service is superb. They all greet you with a smile and the novel notion of knowing how to make you feel like a valued customer. I guess you get what you pay for but Norwegian was almost as much as we spend on a Disney cruise. Read Less

This was my 9th cruise, and the 3rd with NCL. My past NCL cruises were really great, especially on the Escape. The Epic is oddly designed, which creates a poor flow and an uninviting presence. For example, one main dining room, Taste, has been placed on the 5th floor in the middle of the ship. To get around Taste, you must go up an escalator to the 6th floor, and than stairs to get back down to 5th. Some elevators don't have a 5th floor option button. Another odd design is within the basic balcony staterooms. Upon entry into the stateroom, you stand between the toilet and the shower. There is no separate bathroom, just a curtain that separates the toilet and shower from the rest of the room. A sink, mirror, and medicine cabinet have been placed in the sleeping area of the stateroom. The bed is short, leaving my feet to dangle off the edge, and I'm 5'11. The Epic was by far the most crowded cruise I've been on, making it difficult to do many things, such as, get a cocktail, find seating by the pool, find seating at the theater and comedy club, and find seating at any eatery. The elevators were slow to arrive, and usually too full to ride. There were many good things to mention as well. The food was tasty and the variety was satisfying. The staff were helpful and friendly. The ship was clean and tidy. The bars made good drinks and I enjoyed the cigar selection and lounge. I recommend NCL, but not the Epic. The ship just has too many flaws. Read Less

We went on a the Norwegian Jade a few years ago as a family for spring break and really enjoyed it. This year we went on the Epic which was somewhat larger. Overall, it was a very positive experience. The food was excellent but the entertainment was not good at all. We did not have many family friendly options which was a disappointment. The dance show was sexually inappropriate. There was a sign up at the bar that said that kids over the age of 18 were allowed to drink with parent permission which created a less than pleasant experience for those of us who were trying to have a family friendly vacation. The workout center was beautiful, clean & well maintained! The jogging track was crowded and simply went back and forth rather than around the ship like other cruise lines. The embarkation & disembarkation was very well organized. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it sailed out of Port Canaveral & my Aunt turned 70 on the day we embarked. I'm only giving this 7 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise 3 stars because of the excellent service we received at La Bistro. Our server Fraizer D was so good & the Assistant Manager Edgar M was very nice. We decided to eat there twice. The food was fabulous & our room Stewart Aniket was always pleasant & helpful. My cousin & I both caught a horrible sore throat & cold the day we disembarked. My Aunt & I had cabin 12185, a large angled balcony, the bed was comfortable but they are only an inch apart. The balcony was wonderful. The ship has the smell of smoke all over the place. I've sailed only 3 times & all on NCL. I'm thinking of trying another cruise line since the last 3 have been on Sky, Escape & now Epic. I'm not happy that my cousin & I have caught a crazy cold even though we washed our hands often. Read Less

Embarkation was quick as we were the last bus coming from airport. We heard the lines were extremely long prior to us boarding. Once onboard it was a little chaotic at first. Cabin was mid ship, starboard side. Close to elevators, only 2 elevator banks so this was a plus. We didn’t mind the layout of the cabin with toilet and shower separate it was convenient to get ready. We only did complimentary dining, Taste and Manhattan dining rooms both had great service and great food. Garden Cafe was good if you like to eat with 1000 people too crowded. Entertainment was top notch! Must see Priscilla Queen of the Desert but you need reservations. Howl at the Moon, Epic Beatles, Comedy shows, Fire & Ice all fantastic too. Room Steward Ronald was the best, towel animals daily. Also after 3 days trying to get a chair on deck, without having to get up at 6am I asked for a deck lounger for balcony and he delivered. We also tip daily, it helps. Not enough chairs on pool decks and people hog them, they leave there towels all day empty. They do try to police this but it’s all over and rampant. This was a huge turn off, not sure if we will cruise again. Too many people, felt like cattle. Disembarkation was terrible, we waited 2 hours to get on prearranged transportation in the hot sun, never again. If there is a next time I will book my own. Overall it was a good cruise but just ok. Not so much a slam on the content which was bad. But it was not funny, hard to follow and just cheesy. Cirque was awesome what a great venue Howling at the Moon and the Comedians were great and so were most of the bands. Food was average. Specialty restaurants ok. Japanese was the best The ship is old, hard to get around small pool area. Just a real bad layout and there were mechanical and plumbing issues. Pick another ship for your cruise. Pool area was crowded! Not enough servers for drinks on the pool deck. Lines way too long and since no servers you had to wait for drinks. Maltings the best bar. We had fabulous weather. The ports were very nice and of course the crew were exceptional as always on a NCL ship. However, the ship is too large and too crowded to really give everyone the attention they deserve. Embarking was like herding cattle. Not like any haven embarkation I've ever seen. Especially since we are platinum latitudes level. Even though we had a haven suite we were unable to enjoy the haven pool area as it was so crowded and filled with children. The elevators were jam packed. The haven epic club restaurant was fabulous. Staff and food were excellent. In fact I would forego the specialty dining and just eat there if I had to do it over again. There are just way too many haven passengers to make you feel you are getting your money's worth for anything other than the restaurant. The concierge, David, never came to our room to introduce himself or check on our needs. If you visited him at his desk there were often long lines. However, his assistant, Lillian, was fabulous. I gave her the tip. Singh, our Butler was exceptional. He took care of everything we needed and was available anytime I needed something. I did not go to any show. Apparently with so many people you had to make reservations. And some were an extra charge. What is up with that??? Even the musicians and singers at the smaller bars were so crowded you couldn't get a seat. I like the ultimate beverage package but it seems that with so many people having this option the servers are no longer coming to take your drink orders. The lines are so long as a result. All in all I was not impressed and felt I did not get much value for the amount I spent on this cruise. Read Less

This ship is terrible. There's hardly any water in the one pool, no room in the other .There arent enough loungers for all passengers because of chair saving at 730am.The top quiet deck is a lawn chair on a deck, so crowded its like you're at the jersey shore AND NO POOL. Not all rooms have coffee makers. The coffee shop is an extra charge even with the unlimited drink package. This ship nickles and dimes you to death. Bingo costs money, shows cost money, tips have to be paid in advance. Drinks in the mini fridge come at an astronomical charge. Wi-Fi,astronomical charge. Bottled water isnt included in the drink package. $5.40 for a basic bottle of water. This is ludicrous especially for a ship that cant even depart on time! Our departure time last night was 7pm, the ship left at 1040, so the slot machines were locked for hours. This was my first cruise and surely my last. You couldn't pay me to do this again. The only thing saving my experience is the food and the islands visited. But even that is a rip off. You have to be back onboard by 1:30 for one of the destinations, not even a full day to explore. Debarkation is a nightmare, no organization. Read Less
