It pains me to write this review. NCL has really gone down hill. This was my 6th cruise with NCL and I can see how things are deteriorating from my previous experiences. The service on this ship was horrendous as well as the quality of the food at all levels. The ship was overcrowded and you wait and wait and wait for one of TWO bar tenders to make you a drink. It seemed like many on the staff were walking around with a chip on their shoulder and you would barely see them crack a smile. The cruise director Pedro is a complete joke and I can't believe they can't find someone better than this to represent fun and energy. The ship is tired and is in need of a makeover. The main thing I took away from this ship was the extremely rude and poor service of the staff at many levels. I think it is very unlikely we will consider going on another NCL cruise and start looking at MSC or Princess instead. NCL nickels and dimes you any chance they get and they do not appear to appreciate you as a passenger or customer. Read Less

This was our third NCL cruise. We were traveling with a large group. The public restrooms were not kept clean and the soap dispensers were empty most of the time. We had an aft handicapped cabin, which was far from the elevators and on the complete other side of the ship from the buffet restaurant. The food in the buffet was mediocre at best, and the crew was not friendly. From the buffet restaurant you have to go through the pool area on Deck 15 to get to Spice H2O where our group was having a private function. My husband is an above knee amputee, walks with a prosthetic leg and uses a cane. He slipped and fell on the wet pool deck (which is not non-slip and we witnessed others slipping and falling too). His prosthetic leg broke in the fall. After waiting for a security officer to show up, he was taken to customer service to fill out an accident report, (they didn't know what forms to fill out and acted as if we were a bother), then we had to wait for the security officer again, then they took us to the ships medical center where they examined him and did an x-ray of his shoulder, and due to his prosthetic leg breaking he spent the next few days in a wheelchair. I repeatedly asked for copies of the report and medical records and was told they couldn't release them on board and that we would have to call the headquarters in Miami once we were back home to get them. After almost an hour on hold with the corporate office customer service yesterday, we were again told that they would NOT release any paperwork of the incident. We were lied to by the ships crew. We were very disappointed in the ships layout and the poor customer service we received both on and off the ship. Never again! Read Less

From check in to departure the service and staff were very rude and unhelpful. We were told at check in that we could pay cash at the end of the trip and instead they charged our card for every transaction throughout the trip. They were unwilling to resolve the problem at check out. The food, except for specialty dining, was mediocre. When trying to be seated for dining, trying to get a drink, ordering food, or looking for assistance the staff acted as if we were not standing there. Any information provided on the events for the next day was communicated at the last second or after the event occurred. The constant up charges and extra fees made the trip way more expensive than expected....which I believe was the intent. This was our first cruise which we "won" from a local casino. I highly suggest if you are considering cruising with Norwegian you choose a different cruise line. Read Less

Everything was fine until the ship left port. Rooms weren't ready until nearly 3:30 (so we had to drag our luggage around with us for 2 hours). SMOKING - The smoking area is right in the middle of the deck (so essentially you were inundated with smoke all the time outside). Then when the casino was open the entire middle of the inside of the ship was like living in an ashtray. Very poor circulation. CABIN - SEE BELOW SERVICE - Super slow. We waited for everything. For Valentine's Dinner in the dining room we barely saw wait staff, we didn't get served for over an hour when a table next to us came and went. At a meal at O'Sheehan's we never received our appetizer and since we had waited so long for food we ate the main course and still never got the appetizer that he promised to go get us. FOOD - ALWAYS COLD - Everything in the buffet tasted like it came straight from the refrigerator. And the restaurant meals were lukewarm at best. I know you can order as much as you want but the quantity was so small. We learned to order two of almost everything. STAFF - Anytime we had a question or were looking for something we would get snubbed. Rude people that didn't care once ounce if we had fun or not. These people get tips no matter what. I mean complete snobs! BAR - Be prepared to wait every time. Soo slow. Beers are warm. Tons of sloppy drunks hanging around that have the drink plan. EVERYTHING COSTS EXTRA - Be prepared to be bombarded with extra costs from shows to meals to a $5 bottle of water when you are standing in 100 heat waiting to disembark at an island. They even have people coming up to trying to sell stuff from the store randomly around the ship. And a constant barrage of trying to sell raffle tickets. Most activities were extra too. SHOWS - The entertainment was good if you made reservations way in advance and didn't miss them. The scheduling just never worked for us. Also the Headliners Venue is awful - you can barely see the stage from any place but the front row. Same with the atrium - they just stuff tons of uncomfortable chairs all over the place and you can barely see and you feel trapped. Nobody can come up with a better set-up? One night there was nothing to do we watched JUMANGI on the big screen at the back of the ship. They could have more recent movies available??? We aren't rich and couldn't pay for the Haven or even a balcony but we treated ourselves because we needed the getaway but we shouldn't have gotten treated like second class citizens because of it. SO DISAPPOINTED! Read Less

This was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had on a vacation. The room was the size of a postage stamp, hot, and no privacy whatsoever. The food was bland and not particularly varied. The staff were grumpy and never seemed to know where anything was on the ship. The drink package didn't include bottled water, and you were discouraged from filling up your water bottles at the filling stations (you had to fill a glass and pour it into your bottle, sigh). Had a massage (which was good), but then forced to listen to a 20 minute sales pitch, which kind of negated the relaxation of the massage. None of the staff seemed to care about any of our needs, and in the end we had to take our issues to customer service. The shows (that were included in the ticket) were one once a day at 7pm (the restaurant didn't open until 5:30, so you had to rush through dinner). We were traveling with a group of about 200, and every single one of us will never sail with NCL again. Don't waste your money. Read Less

In staterooms not enough light.Very extremely small room.It truly felt like a cave. Strange layout brushing teeth in front of everyone in room not cool. Same for shower and toilet. Never again!! Unable to go to library in wheelchair. Nonsensical design of ship. Totally did not enjoy this 26th cruise on NCL!! Cagneys was crowded not relaxing at all. Matri dee saw my steak and insisted on replacing, I ordered rare received burnt offerings. Le Bistro was excellent changed several meals in Cagneys for Le Bistro. It is never a disappointment. However, a very fine salt was on scallops making them to salty and inedible. Blonde cocktail waitree in casino had a very bad attitude. Hard to have a relaxing vacation with all the crowds and staff negativity. Never saw the captain two events he was to be there -- no show. Read Less

We returned from our 7 day cruise on the Epic on Saturday Feb. 3rd. I waited to write this because I didn't want to be one of those people that fires off an e-mail when they are upset. This was our first and last experience with Norwegian. I can not believe how disappointed my husband and I were with the cruise. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean and Carnival before so we did have some previous experiences to compare it to. I don't know quite where to start. We were disappointed with the room in general - the curved design is not good. The toilet and shower were both very small and there were no drawers in the room to put our clothes in, just the cubby holes behind the couch. My husband is 6'1" and he hung off the bed because of the curvature of the room the bed was short on both sides. The only saving grace about the room was that the balcony was a nice size (although the glass was covered in salt residue and we were on deck 13). We did not even meet our cabin steward until the morning of the third day of the cruise. Every other cruise I have been on they have been there to introduce themselves the day we boarded and called us by name whenever they passed us in the hallway. Every day the hall ways were cluttered with laundry carts, making it difficult to pass if anyone else was in the hallway. I was surprised that I had to turn the dial outside our room to ask to have the room made up or turned down. Again in comparison, every other cruise I have been on it was like magic that every time I returned to my cabin it was made up. Two of our 7 nights we did not get a towel animal in the cabin and we never received a chocolate on our pillows. We received the 5 free offers which included the unlimited drink package, 3 nights of upgraded dining, wifi, etc. We had to pre-pay the bar tips before we ever got on the boat which would have been ok if the there had been enough wait staff and if the wait staff that was around actually had waited on customers. I really think the problem was that there was not enough wait staff to take care of all the passengers. I spent an entire day at the pool deck in the Spice H2O area and a waiter came by to take my drink order a total of 3 times in 6 hours. I had to go to the bar multiple times myself and stand in a long line to get a drink. We ran into the same problem when we went to a comedy show. There was one bar open in the small comedy room (Headliners) and the line was very long and there were no waiters. Once the show started the bar was shut down. The set-up for the Headliners room is very poor - bar stools with a table every 5-6 chairs. There was no place to put a drink if one was able to get one. When we went to one of the shows in the main theater I was shocked to see only 2 waiters for the entire room and again the bar and wait service stops when the show starts ( We went to another show in there on a different day and there were 3 waiters then - which is still not near enough for all the people that were in there). I am still trying to figure out how Norwegian markets itself as "freestyle". To me freestyle means you show up and go with the flow. We found out that you needed to have reservations for everything if you didn't want to wait in a line on stand-by or even to eat dinner in the main dining room. We had to wait 25 minutes one evening to eat in the Taste dining room because we didn't realize you need a reservation for the two main dining rooms. We had downloaded the app to use while on board but it didn't tell us what any of the reservations we had made were. I actually had to go to the customer service desk to get them to print us a copy so we could have it with us while we were walking around the ship. Because of the need for all of the reservations I felt like my entire vacation was very scheduled - not a term I would use as synonymous with freestyle. Now for the food - the specialty dining options we choose were Cagney's, Moderno and the Cirque Dreams. The food a Cagney's was ok - both my husband and I ordered the prime rib. It didn't have a lot of flavor but it wasn't bad. The food at the Cirque Dreams was actually the best dinner we had on the ship. Moderno was a good concept and the food was pretty good. I'm glad that we did get the specialty dining options included because I would have been miserable if all of our dinners were like the one we experience in the Manhattan dining room. I ordered I believe what was called the sirloin Diane - it was one of the worst pieces of meat I have ever had. It was so full of fat and grisel that I could only eat about half of it. The wait staff in the dining room was more concerned with talking to each other than they were waiting on us. I was surprised that in the "fancy" Manhattan dining room that my sirloin was served with french fries. I ordered the molten chocolate lava cake for dessert since I didn't get to eat much of my dinner. I was so disappointed with the lava cake - it was not hot and it wasn't even cake nor was it molten - it was the consistency of flan and was cold. Another night I, while in O'Sheehan's I ordered a hot fudge sundae from the Ice Cream shop - it cost $4.80 (felt like I was being nickel and dimed for things - but that's a whole different topic) When the sundae arrived it had chocolate syrup on it instead of hot fudge. I pointed it out to the waitress who seemed confused at first. I showed her the menu and explained I ordered fudge not syrup. She then seemed to understand and said she would fix it. About 5 minutes later she came back and said her supervisor would be coming to talk with me in a few minutes and that they had to go down to the next deck to get the hot fudge. The supervisor came by a few minutes later and I explained the problem (since I was paying for it I wanted what I had ordered). She said it would be just a few minutes. It took a total of 20 minutes for me to get my hot fudge sundae and when it finally arrived it was fudge but it was not hot. I actually came back from a week long cruise and lost a pound and didn't visit the gym once! That's really sad and not an endorsement for the food in general. We had many other disappointments along the way - watered down drinks, the hot tub heater was broken, one of our shore excursions got cancelled the night before, got eaten by bugs on the private island, wait staff on the private island was as inattentive as it was on the ship, very long lines for food on the private island, and had to physically go to Guest Services to get our debarkation luggage tags and custom forms (every other cruise I've been on they deliver them to your cabin on the last night). Many other guests we spoke with were also disappointed in the cruise - as we were leaving I heard another passenger wish someone a better cruise on another line. I normally thoroughly enjoy cruising but I was so disappointed with this one and it was leaving such a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively) that I used up the last of my wifi package during breakfast on Saturday morning before we disembarked from the ship to see when I could book another cruise on a different line. I found one that we booked and we are leaving tomorrow from Port Canaveral on Carnival for a 3 night trip to the Bahamas. I had to do something to have an enjoyable cruise experience so it didn't ruin cruising for me. If this had been my first cruise ever, I don't think I would ever want to go again after the experience we had. Read Less

We were not at all impressed with the Epic. We have cruised 20+ times on almost every cruise line, and chose the Epic because we enjoyed the food on the Breakaway so much. We even talked friends into going with us. In a nutshell, here are our issues: (1) Too many people are crammed on this ship. Even with reservations for EVERYTHING, you spend most of your time waiting in line. (2) They said the "bathroom" was modeled after European bathrooms. We lived in Europe for 12 years and traveled to almost every country. Never did we have such a setup. The toilet is in what can only be described as a shower stall IN the cabin; the shower stall is also IN the cabin, as is the sink. The only privacy you have is a curtain between you and the bed. (3) The cabins are very small--even the balcony cabins are claustrophobic; I am 5'4", and my feet were hanging off the bed every night. We've sailed in everything from an inside cabin on Carnival Liberty to a suite on Celebrity Reflection. Never have we been in such a tiny space. (4) There are a lot of different entertainment options after dinner, but they are much too small to accommodate the number of passengers trying to get in. (5) The check-in appointment for embarkation was not even necessary. The lady at the counter checking us in had no idea what I was talking about. We sat in this huge gym-like room with about 4000 other sweaty people for an hour and a half waiting to board. Disembarkation wasn't much better. We've sailed from Pt. Canaveral before and not had such issues. (6) The food on the Breakaway was MUCH better than the Epic. For example, we suggested to the friends we brought with us that we not miss the "Seafood Buffet" night, because on the Breakaway it was amazing with lobster tails and crab legs and all other kinds of seafood. How many ways can one cook shrimp anyway? (7) The ship wasn't nearly as clean as it should have been. The public bathrooms only seemed to get attention when people complained. I complained twice. All in all, we were very disappointed in this ship Read Less

We went with a large group of couples (14) on Epic. The customer service was terrible. Every bar that we went to took a long time to get just a beer which requires no mixing. The bartenders would purposely look away and ignore you. Several times we walked away and went to other bars. There is only place to get water on the ship--on the 15th deck--and they have tiny plastic cups and you cannot fill a water bottle. They charge for soda and you have to go to the same bar and wait in line again. If you want to water from the bar you have to buy it and they charge you a fortune. We were all dehydrated most of the cruise because of it and we had a couple of non drinkers who found it difficult to get something to drink. They were very difficult about seating our party together even though we had made reservations more than 4 months in advance for a party of 14. We had to sit at separate tables many of the nights. The couples in our group have cruised many times--we all will never sail on Norwegian again. The ship is only supposed to have 4300 passengers on board and one of the crew members told us there were 4800! I will admit I have sailed Disney 5 or 6 times and the customer service cannot be beat so sailing on Norwegian Epic was a big disappointment. We paid for the spa package and went everyday but the hot tub was only hot the first day, after that it was more like a warm bath. Very disappointing. Their island pales in comparison to Disney's castaway Cay...there are rocks everywhere in the water so you cant get out to the deeper water without navigating the dangerous rocks on the bottom amidst the sand and seaweed. They also charge you 39$ if you sit in a chair that has an umbrella--ridiculous. Read Less

We've been on 8 cruises and this cruise was our least favorite we have been on. Embarkation was delayed by almost 2 hours. Long uncoordinated lines. Finally get on, no grand atrium, no one directing you and welcoming you aboard. Very weird. We love large ships and we love cruising, but this ship had a lack of elevators. You had to wait at least 15-20 mins for an elevator. I witnessed people with strollers, scooters, and walkers waiting painfully long times for an elevator. No windows on the decks to look out to know you are on a ship. Lack of seating and tables on corridors of decks to sit and have a drink, people watch, read a book, or play games. The only place to sit is in the atrium and there weren't enough. People were standing or sitting on the floor. They even close the buffet, so no sitting there and watching the sea. Itinerary changed due to hurricanes, but we are fine wherever we go. The tenders, however, be prepared to wait very long times for them. We waited in theater and left because it was over an hour. We went back later. No excursions, we do our own thing. Cabin weird with bathroom, but we knew all about it before we went. Not a huge deal to us. Weather was cold, but that isn't the ships fault. Room steward great. No problems. Buffet seemed to be the same thing everyday. O'Sheen's good. Taste Restaurant long wait for food, but good food. Communication gap in MDR. Waiter rolled eyes at me when he asked if I wanted salt on the rim of my margarita. Manhattan we tried to go to, but were informed you needed pants and closed shoes. They wouldn't allow us in. I wasn't aware of this before I went so that was a bummer that we couldn't try and eat in it at all. Ultimate Beverage Package we both tried, but waiter service was nonexistent. Very hard time finding a waiter to take a drink order.. anywhere. Not in theater, not by pool, not near a bar... Where were they all?? You had to wait in line to get your own. During show before magician came out they said " waiter and drink service will be suspended during show". People in the audience yelled," WHAT SERVICE?!" ALL BARS close when in port except atrium bar and pool bar. Kids loved the slides. Be aware if sailing or in port and a bit windy, they close them. One slide you need a round tube and they won't let you on if it is a little windy. Good luck finding a lounger near pool. I have never encountered that many chair hogs on a cruise before. They closed down pool to paint it in port WHY?? Many people don't get off in Nassau when they've been there numerous times. Kids programs: 10 yr old loved it. 12 yr old wasn't amused to be in a group with 6yr-10 yr olds. 13 year old loved teen group. The teens were bored though as there was times when nothing was going on. Shows: Howl at the Moon OK, you need to tip in order for song to be heard. Comedy, Pretty good. Shows, didn't get into them. Reservations FOR EVERYTHING. I'm on vacay I like to go with the flow and not follow schedule or reserve everything. We talked with many passengers throughout the week and they all were complaining about this ship and crew. I have never witnessed that ever on a cruise. Even the shuttle to our parking people were all saying it was terrible. The most memorable part of our trip: WASSHY WASSHY HAPPY HAPPY. That lady was one of the only crew members with a smile and the most memorable part of our trip. Would I recommend this ship or cruise line? NO. Read Less

We had previously sailed on the Epic and determined that it was not the experience that we wanted in cruising, but the date coincided with our anniversary and the price was good. The reason that we do not like the ship is that the ship does not do an adequate job of accommodating the number of passengers that it carries. For example, the main atrium and atrium bar area seats less than 100 passengers on a ship that carries nearly 5000 passengers. When you board the ship day 1, you need to make reservations for the comedy club and entertainment in the main theater in order to be guaranteed a seat. Burn the floor and Priscilla are excellent productions and worth standing in line for a reservation to the main theater. There are no reservations available for the cavern so do not plan on seeing entertainment in the cavern as it fills up beyond capacity long before the show begins. Seating in the bar areas is difficult to find in the evening. If you are planning on eating at the specialty restaurants which are excellent, make reservations prior to boarding or there may be no availability. There can also be a long wait for the complimentary dining options. The decor of the ship is beautiful, but it does not function well for the number of passengers that it carries. I believe this is the only ship in the NCL fleet that does not have a similar sister ship. I can understand that decision. Read Less

From the hour it took us to board the ship to the last day to exit, you could hear the same song" never again" Our first and last time on the cruise line. Our cabin, score 1 The first 4 days of a week cruise, was not made up till 4 pm needless to say never turned down. 2-3 days we did not get clean towels till 4 pm. Only saw 3 towels animals. A coffee maker in the room but no cups, no floor mat and the bath held no privacy as the toilet and the bath were enclosed in like a shower door and the room was separated by a curtain. The floor plan was less than accommodating, as you could lay on the bed, look into the mirror and see into the person on the toilet. Very low lighting for makeup or shaving The ship, Score 3 Some sections in the ship are so narrow you have to walk single file. Most traffic took you through the casino, some smoking allowed. Interior seemed dark and dated. Besides the pool not much room to sit outside for a quiet view of the water.Tendering was like moving cattle, long line, slow moving along with confusion as we were told the delay was because a tender had to take a sick person to shore and the other excuse bad weather. The restaurants, If you made a res or not everyone had to stand in one line. And when you called for a res, the same story always 630 pm or 7:30 but if you waited in line you were in by 5:45. Food, overall a 5, nothing outstanding The entertainment, here we have a small plus, score 8 Burn the Floor, Priscilla, Cirque, Howl at the Moon and the escape room were great, fun and entertaining. Others, the comedy and magic show, just fair. Service, fair, always a smiling face some eager to help others not. Management sure was busy putting out complaints. And many many guests singing "never again". Read Less

Would advise everyone to never go on the Epic. We have been on several ships and this ship was a waist of my hard earned money. The servers were the worst. On several occasions I had to ask the staff to smile. When we would ask for directions they would not respond and just point and walk away. I even told them they should sail on Royal Caribbean to see hoe to make people feel welcome. I even went to the officers and was advised that they get paid in two days then you will see a smile. WHAT. If you are from 21 to 65 don't sail on the epic. the fastest song i heard during the day was elevator music. was advised they had lobster, this was a lie. They take the chairs up around 11:00. I made a call to the customer service and was advised to make your commits with the survey at the end of the cruise. If you don't get out by 9:00 you wont get a chair. They have a blue card for people who sail with them a lot. We sat between two elderly couples who had a blue card we never got sprayed with water or asked if we want a drink,I had to got the bar every time, and after 45 minutes he tried to pick up our empty drinks, I told him to go away. I am 61 years old If you want good food you have to pay a specialty price. The ship is made for people with electric carts. They will run you over. Room 17005 - Before you book a room in the Haven ,do your research! Our room was literally 1 room. The toilet, bathtub/shower, sink and bed were one area. No separate shower or toilet area. There was absolutely no privacy. The tub was dangerous getting in and out of and my wife and I are pretty nimble and not overweight. There was one sinl barely the size of my hand. The shower doors kept rattling and keeping us up at night along with the upstairs deck as we were on the 17th deck. The icing on the cake was the balcony which was fully enclosed in glass with a small slider of a window. Unacceptable when you are being charged $6000 for a double. Shame on Norwegian for a bait and switch job and American Express for booking this room. I will say that my kids room next door was fine other than their enclosed balcony. If I were on a lower deck and paid a normal fair, no problem. But don't provide me Kia for a Mercedes price tag. The shore excusion Bamboo Beach VIP in Jamaica was horrible! The beach was very overcrowded and the way it was set up was the representative who works for the tour group was also the server and they wanted you to sit with everyone on your bus. There was mass confusion all the way around and wife ended up receiving her food close to 2:30 , about 20 minutes before we left back to the boat. They took us to a sketchy souvenir shop as well which we all could have done without. Do not book this !!! Food on the ship was like any other cruise on a big ship. Nothing special but ok. Great if you love buffet food. We did like some of the entertainment, especially the dancers. They were very talented. On another positive getting on and off the ship was relatively smooth. To sum it up, this 7 day cruise felt like a 3 week cruise and I was happy to be off the ship. Read Less

The price was right, but as the saying goes.. you get what you pay for. I purchased a killer deal on Epic and thought I could do this trip fairly inexpensively. However, once they get you on the ship, everything else costs big $. My package did not come with drinks so I had to pay $13 for a glass of wine and $3.50 for a soda. If you want hot food delivered to your room, it is an extra $7.50 on top of the daily gratuity charges. All charges you add to your room include an extra gratuity to the bill already. I added extra tip to the tab to my room, but the bartender returned it and asked me to just sign the other copy without a tip. Turns out the staff do not get the extra gratuity you add on to your receipt so he said why give NCL more of their $. I started tipping in cash the rest of the trip. Every luxury service I purchased included a very hard sell to buy their products. I was relaxed by the end of the service but then stressed out before I left the room. Speaking of rooms. I am not sure you could have a small room. The bathroom set up is odd and revealing. I would not want to share a cabin with someone else unless we were extremely close. Great storage and use of the space, but I have more room in my walk in closet than there was in this entire cabin. I also had to sleep to the sound of water draining down the pipe next to my room. Made me get up to pee more often than I'm used to. I called on the drain issue, but they just said it is a ship and the ship needs to drain. ... um ok. I wanted the sound of waves, not draining water. The casino staff was so rude that I decided to take the $$$ that I had set aside to gamble and spent it on myself in the spa. Better return on my money for sure. Slots were broken or tight anyway. The ship was laid out oddly I thought... can't exactly put my finger on it, but perhaps it was just so big, it took forever to get to places. I would not travel on this ship again. And because of the way I was treated in the casino, I probably won't travel NCL at all. If that is how you train your employees, then I don't need that experience again. I will say that the staff in the gym were exceptional. Sam was my PT and never made me feel like I was new to the gym or that he was hired for the hour... there isn't enough I could say about him... the ship is lucky to have him onboard. Read Less

The ship only had 2 elevator shafts some of which were hare to find. On embarkation I ran into two different couples that were lost and could not find their cabins. One lady was on the verge of a panic attack. We finally found their cabins with no help from any crew members. The food was horrible. Everything from the burgers to the pork was disgusting. I cant imagine any one saying the food was good. If somebody calls this good food , i would not want to eat at their house. I have over 30 cruises and I never would have thought one could get this bad. The only good thing on the whole cruise was the acrobats. I will never again fall for NCL garbage of how good their cruises are. Read Less

My wife had never been on a cruise and my last was with RC so when we chose Norwegian Epic I thought we were making a good decision based on a well-known cruise line, large ship and Western Caribbean itinerary. Overall we were sorely disappointed but I will try to be objective to help others make decisions for themselves. Pros: 1) Relatively new ship, appears to have been commissioned approximately 2010. Larger than most. 2) NCL Cruise consultant was very accommodating and seemed very knowledgeable to the extent we ended up having another couple join us as we were impressed with the cruise consultant and her salesmanship. 3) Balcony cabin was absolutely clean, comfortable and well equipped and met our every expectation. Lots of storage space, under the bed and the couch and the steward readily provided extra hangers and extra chairs for the balcony. 4) Port Canaveral is very close to our winter home in Florida and parking was easy and not overly expensive at $17 per day x 8 days. Secure, covered and convenient if you arrive about 10:30 am before the rush. 5) The 2 shows we attended, "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and “Burn the Floor" were excellent and we would have gone a second time to Priscilla but it was fully booked. 6) Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel were great stops and worth exploring. 7) Breakfast in the TASTE dining room was comfortable usually met expectations without crowds. Dining at Moderno Churrascaria was excellent and the noodle bar was fabulous being very authentic and accommodating (noodle choice). Cons: 1) Line ups. Massive line ups and packed elevators at all times. Lunch usually only had the option of the Buffet (pushy line ups) or for sit down service one main restaurant (Taste of Manhattan, never both) and Osheehans where line ups averages 30 min to an hour. On the last day the self-assist meant people brought their luggage on to already crowded elevators resulting in (as both our couples had difficulty walking stairs) inability to get to the Breakfast buffet or to Guest Services. Going to shore was a nightmare of line ups with no real communication as to where you were to go and how many stairs you had to cope with. 2) Pools, although there were three pools the two largest were mainly inaccessible for therapy due to number of children unless you went at 7 am. The adult pool at the aft of the ship was a joke as one stroke was all you could manage to swim from one end to the other. Essentially it was a standing room only “hot tub”(only warm water) without jets. No Aqua fit activities were available at all, despite what our Cruise consultant had said in response to a specific question before we booked. It seems geared entirely to children despite the majority on board being retirees. 3) Cabin had 2 major issues; a) the so called fridge is not a fridge but a cooler and unless you want to pay mini bar prices regardless of your "Ultimate Beverage Pkg" this cooler has to be cleared so you can use it for your own medications, water etc. It never really gets cold, only cool, so my insulin was at risk all week. b) The TV is limited to hotel admin channels, 3 news channels, 1 tv series channel and 1 movie channel. Most of our usage was to check our account. Yes, you could purchase movies at $10 each, most of which were of no interest. 4) Meals. Overall the food was disappointing. The couple that accompanied us on this trip were thoroughly unhappy with food that was offered. They are old hands at cruises and expressed that this was one of their most disappointing cruises. Even on specialty nights the main dishes were so lined up in the buffet that you ended up opting for the same old stuff. The 15th floor buffets seemed to be the main source of food and although there were some occasional pleasant surprises, as a rule it was difficult to find seating and line ups were the norm. The bar here is small that to get a drink (limited selection) is nigh on impossible and only 1 waiter seems to provide table service for the entire area. The two main dining rooms both shared the same menu every night so that limited your experience. However the inconsistency of the food often provided variety. One night 3 of us ordered the same meal but you would not have known it to look at what arrived. Of course if you have the specialty dining feature, which is limited to 3 meals only during the week and requires reservations, you can get some other choices. Cagney’s Steak House was fully booked for the entire week by almost sailing time on the first day. We managed one specialty dining room at 5:15 pm but the other two were both after 8 pm and later in the week. Not much of an option when availability is so limited. La Cucina was ok, but the menu disappointing in its variety. Le Bistro was also limited although good escargots and they were so long bringing desert we gave up and left. We noted the instructions to get to Le Bistro said 14th deck but actually the main entrance is off of 15 and down a flight of stairs. On 14 you have to walk a long way from the elevators, past cabins, and enter through the kitchen (wheelchair entrance). As to O'Sheehan's, the touted 24 hour restaurant, it is located in the middle of the casino where smoking is allowed and although we tried several times, especially during lunch hours we were never able to get seated in a reasonable amount of time for meals and when we did get seated in non- peak hours service was non-existent. 5) Entertainment; although the two shows we saw were excellent the top billed show was roughly $50 per person extra. 6) General comments; a) There was no garbage disposal anywhere except in your room, in the public washrooms or on deck 15 by the pools. This means if you have garbage you must either find a washroom to dispose of it or carry it with you or as many do, leave it lying around. b) Other than on the elevators themselves there is virtually no signage to indicate the deck number you are on. This is especially frustrating when you are forced to take the stairs as the elevators are overcrowded such as returning from shore. c) Staff training; on several occasions we had contact with guest services or management and each time their initial response was defensive or argumentative. Almost at no time did anyone in authority acknowledge that the customer may be right or provide a positive customer experience. On one occasion, despite my having already been assisted by two other staff, a casino manager, “Adam”, assured me I was wrong about certain machines not working and being unable to dispense tokens. On another occasion I had to escalate my concern to the 4th level of management before that senior officer acknowledged my concern was valid and provided us with the amenity we needed which probably had a total cost of only $15. I would have saved 45 minutes, stress and argument if the first guest services employee had been empowered to look after a customer in the first place. d) Communication: Most communication was confusing, and barely audible. On several Occasions during disembarkation, the deck we were told to go to was not actually the deck by which you disembarked and we had to navigate many stairs without being forewarned, which as I said earlier, caused difficulties. Staff directing people were curt and demanding and appeared to make decisions without regard to passenger’s capabilities or disabilities. 7) Ultimate Beverage Package. This implies a different definition of the word “ultimate” for a passenger than for NCL. Be aware that although you can drink as many glasses of wine, beer, fountain drinks as you want (under $15 each) it does not include bottled water, bottles of wine, cans of soda or your mini bar, all of which are available at an additional cost. So if you prefer bottled water to take your pills or brush your teeth your only choice is drink from the bathroom tap (?), get a glass of filtered water from a bar or lounge and walk it all the way back to your cabin, or pay extra for bottles of water (415 for 6 bottles)to be delivered when the steward remembers. 8) Shore excursions; forget about the trinkets that “Jake” offers. In most cases the stores are out of them or they just are not worth the hassle and dealing with the sales people. In two cases we were told to go to other (sister) stores, quite a walk away, if we wanted them. Go for the ambience and the taste of the island. Also communication about changes to itinerary especially with respect to costs and distance involved when the ship cannot anchor in the normal port are not clearly communicated. In Grand Cayman weather did not permit our ship and another from anchoring at the normal location and the alternate only could handle 1 shuttle from each cruise ship at a time (long lines and waits)and required we take a bus (at extra cost) for 15 minutes into town. The busses would not move until fully loaded whether coming or going, meaning you had wait times of over 30 minutes sometimes sitting on a crowded uncomfortable bus. 9) Cleanliness; although every time you approached any dining area you were greeted and your hands were sprayed with disinfectant we noticed that staff cleaning tables did not have much in the way of cloths or spray to do so. We watched as one fellow wiped down a table with a small cloth no bigger than his hand, drop it on the floor and then continue to use it on the next table. He had no bottle or bucket to rinse it with. On an elevator we watched as one father encouraged his small child to learn numbers by pressing the buttons for passengers, of course this was between the child picking his nose at the time. Never saw anyone wiping clean the elevator controls all week. We recommend carrying your own sterile wipes to use before touching surfaces. Recommendations to NCL: 1) In the buffet area provide signs for table saying “Occupied” or “Coming right Back” so that no one has to stay and guard their table or food while the others get their food. Often we did not eat at the same time as after one got their food (waiting in lines) the other then had to get theirs and wait in lines resulting in eating 10 to 15 minutes apart. Not a pleasant dining experience. Staff were too efficient, often clearing away drinks and plates we were not finished with because we may have got up to find something briefly. Once their hands on your plate you are loathe to ask them to set it down again so you can finish as now it may be contaminated by whatever they picked up before. 2) When dealing with customer issues my 40 years of experience in this role is to always greet the customer with “what is it that would resolve this to your satisfaction?” This immediately disarms their anger and stress and allows them to express their expectations, usually in a very reasonable manner, because they have not been further aggravated or made defensive. Knowing the customer’s expectation enlightens the guest services staff and the solution is often much less than what the Guest Service agent may have expected and they can offer resolution much more readily. This prevents arguments in front of other customers and creates good will which is far cheaper to help retain customers than having to spend money on advertising for new customers who probably have already heard negative news, which spreads faster than any advertising would. 3) Focus on customer perspective when initiating processes, rules or policies. Learn a little about “Lean Management” which teaches us that organisations generally design processes to suit the organisation rather than the customer which leads ultimately to the demise of the organisation. Organisations like NCL appear to be focussed more on what they want to sell rather than on what is it the customer wants to purchase. The best example is using the term “Ultimate” to describe their Beverage Package which in the customer’s eyes is far from ultimate. 4) Have each NCL Co. Director travel incognito once a year in an economy class status on their own ships for a cruise selected at random. The resulting awareness should have obvious impact on future offerings to passengers. 5) Never argue with a passenger, customer or client, even if you are convinced you are right, in the long run you will lose! Confrontation only adds stress and increases the negative aspects of the trip. 6) People are trained to read Headlines! Fine print is dead. If there is an important piece of information your passenger must have make sure you put it out there in bold clear language. If it isn’t worth making the effort than it isn’t important for your customer. To use the phrase, “that was in the e-documents “ doesn’t make a customer’s experience any better. What we learned for future cruises; 1) Although you think arriving early would have benefits the reality is that the only benefit we perceived was with parking. Early arrivals have to cope with long lines and waiting after check in at 11 for boarding to start around 12 noon, then lining up to board in groups, then waiting in the buffet area for you room to be ready (approx. 2 pm) then waiting for your luggage to be delivered by (8pm latest). People, who arrived after about 1 pm registered, boarded, lunched and were in their rooms almost with no wait at all. 2) There are advantages you may not be aware of on arrival if you have not cruised before. Immediately register for your special meals and entertainment, “DO NOT WAIT”. This is unfortunate as you have no time to weigh the pros and cons of timing or sequence for your overall week but it is a reality that this ship, at least, cannot accommodate everyone when they would like. Check out duty free on board immediately the first night! 3) We packed our on disinfectants and vinyl gloves and were glad we did. 4) This was a special event for us and costly. To us it was a combination of our birthdays, our anniversary and our Christmas gifts to each other. Being retired, our budget only allowed this one extravagance yet the experience left us telling our friends and neighbours that we do not know why we wasted so much money on such a poor experience. After her first cruise my wife is adamant that she will never cruise again! Read Less

I will never choose Norwegian Cruise Line again, nor will I ever recommend the cruise line to my family or friends. We chose Norwegian due to the price; next time I will just spend more money to obtain the service I have become accustomed to on other cruise lines. The embarkation process on this cruise was horrendous. The ship itself had a layout that after seven days I still could not make sense of in my head. If you like to walk around ships on the outside...this is not your ship. If you like to utilize the adults only part of the ship...this is not your ship (the adults only is at the back of the boat without good airflow and all you will smell are the diesel fumes). If you are one that likes to get out on the upper deck and lay out in the sun...get up there early as the deck crew seems to like to put up the deck chairs around the time the sun is at its peak. If you like to utilize the gym on cruises in order to have that extra dessert...this is not your ship. My high school gym had better equipment and space 15 years ago. If you are one that likes to "freestyle" cruise (i.e. not plan every minute of every day of your vacation), this is not your ship. If you do not reserve all of your entertainment and specialty dining on the first day of this cruise, you will not be seeing entrainment nor will you be specialty dined. The bar service was seemingly nonexistent (so much for the included beverage package and the value I believed it being included would afford me...so glad I prepaid my gratuities). At the ports of call, this ship seemed to be last in line for docking at the favorable docks; for example, in Jamaica we docked at the trash/industrial dock - that was fun. Another example, in Grand Cayman the itinerary showed we would dock in George Town, instead we docked about 20 minutes away which made getting to seven mile beach take more time and more money for the taxi. The only highlight of this cruise was Cozumel Mexico, where once again we did not dock where we were suppose to dock. However, my husband and I made it to an awesome place called Mr. Sanchos Beach Club via taxi and had the best time of our 7 day vacation. Read Less

The ship its self is amazing in size! Far to many people and not enough stuff to do! Worst cruise I've ever been on!! First had a member of Norwegian call to book my cruise for our honeymoon. I asked her about people putting money towards our cruise for our honeymoon and she said "WERE NOT A GO FUND ME ACCOUNT". This statement made me really unhappy. The ship is EXTREMELY disorganized! our first stop was missed because of waves, which there was never an announcement for the guest to hear we weren't actually getting off the ship. we had to keep asking staff what was going on. Then two hours later we were told we weren't getting off by the men that cleaned the room. Our balcony didn't have a roof so while it was raining we could sit outside like the others! we were told about this while booking. The food in Cagney's Steakhouse was beyond words nasty!! I had prime rib and couldn't even cut it with a knife. it was like pure rubber!! Waste of a special dinner and money!! We had better food at the buffet and the dinning rooms that were complimentary. Some of the staff was extremely rude as well. Went to get a drink and sat at a chair by the bar. Was told to go to the other end of the bar and get my drink. why should I, I was sitting down like a normal person would at a bar. Then was skipped over multiple times before I had to be pushy and ask why he made me move if he wasn't going to help me! He said with a slick attitude then what do you want! I just wanted two sodas on my unlimited drink package. Then at a different bar my Husband went to and got a drink finished it and went to get another one, the man behind the bar side I just served you a drink there's no way your getting another one this quick. again we were on the Unlimited Drink Package! excursions are extremely over priced and not worth the money you pay!! It is a lot cheaper to get off the boat and get a taxi! There is not enough things for 4000 plus people to do! it was by far the most boring cruise I have ever been on! The things to do are minimal and there isn't enough room are shows and games for everyone that wants to be there. Still mad that we didn't get to go to one of our stops and weren't informed about the situation. All in all this was the worst cruise I've ever been on. Don't recommend this ship to anyone! Read Less

The food at the buffet was boring, little selection, and poor taste. O'Sheehan's was poorly understaffed and the food was very hit and miss. There were nowhere near enough tables and chairs for the amount of people on the boat. The game shows were disappointing in the same contestant playing twice, the quality of payouts was abysmal. The pools and hot tubs were a nightmare, and pools were randomly drained during sea days when people would most likely use them. Kids were hogging the hot tubs for too long, no supervision. Store staff was rude and impolite, and bartenders were rude. Boat tendering was a disaster, and the fact that 3000 people were waiting in a line and the boat was 2 hours late disembarking from the Cayman Islands was a disaster. We were jipped out of a quarter of our destinations, that we paid $1100 for, and were only reimbursed with $37? That's insulting, and the cruise director said cabs would be available for $10 round trip, & they were over $20 with no reimbursement as it was the ship's fault for us being in the location we were. For the ship having "world class entertainment", most shows were an hour, IF that, and the game shows were usually over in 15 minutes. The final 2 days had virtually NO entertainment at all, and on the final day, most of the events were at 9-11pm, when we disembarked at 7am, so enjoyment of those were impossible. Embarkation was about as smooth as 4100 people would allow, disembarkation was a log jam more or less, but moved decently. Ship was very crammed, no open space unless you were on deck 15. All in all, I wouldn't cruise again most likely with Norwegian again. Read Less

I was told by one of the porters that this tub is for sale and NOBODY cares anymore...it shows! There are too many negatives to cover this without writing a book, so I will just spotlight my biggest complaints. We missed the first port...their "private island" because of a gale...not a biggie...been there done that. BUT we had to spend three solid days at sea on a broken down slop scow! The slots spewed money for the first three days. I have never seen looser slots in my life. First night on one machine...over $1100.00. Second night, same machine...over $1200.00. Third night...same machine...almost $1000.00. Then they were closed downed and rebooted. I actually stood back and watched them pull the brain from my machine. For the remainder of the cruise, that machine offered a negative balance on every hundred dollar's bet. The food was deplorable! I got cold food on three occasions. We waited for over an hour to eat at the Manhattan restaurant. I ordered a medium rare steak It was super well done...yesterday...stone cold when I got it! On the second night I ordered chicken parmesan. Again, cold. Third night, my baked potato would not melt butter. I was told that the ship's galley is near the front of the ship. "If you want hotter food, you should try some of the eateries at the front of the ship." For the rest of the cruise we ate at the cafeteria style buffet. Much better that the dress up, sit down places! Still NOT great food. All in all, the worst cruise food I haver witnessed. I ate better food in the Navy! The free food on board is prepared in the one galley near the bow...so to get hot food you best eat close to the front of the ship. OR pay additional for your meals to be fresh cooked at the pay to eat restaurants aboard. We paid for our tickets by card, online. We paid the gratuities up front and upon accepting the contract, there is a $13.99 per day per person service fee added to the total on a per day basis aboard the ship which I was not told of! I checked my account on the in cabin TV and discovered the charge. I complained to customer service and they immediately credited my account for the $195.86. It's a hidden charge and you don't have to pay it! Actually, you are paying more than you agreed to in the advertisement. I was told by one of the cabin attendants that they didn't receive any of the service charge money. By the way...when the lady asked me for my cabin number, I told her that I couldn't remember it. She replied, "You have two more days to learn your cabin number!" To which I replied..." I am a published author. My IQ is over 150 but I was born with Dyslexia. What is your excuse for being so rude!" Finally...the public restrooms were NASTY!!!!!! The men's urinals had a puddle three feet back from the wall. It smelled to high heaven! C'MON MAN! Mop! Our cabin carpet was as old as the ship and had BROWN stains all over it. Our next door neighbor's toilet was not working properly and it smelled badly. One of our neighbors was complaining about having to go to the public toilet because her's would not flush. The one bright spot on our cruise was our room attendant. He worked very hard for us and made a special effort to please our every request. Therefore, he received a major portion of the refunded "service fee" as a Christmas present. Read Less

We have been to the Caribbean on numerous cruises but had not had the opportunity to visit Tortola. It was around our anniversary so we picked this. Since we had been on the SS NORWAY twice, we decided to try NCL again. What a mistake.Freestyle cruising wasn't free. Everything had to be scheduled, such as entertainment, music, comedy shows. Venues were way too small and had to wait at least an hour in line to get in if you didn't schedule it. Elevators were a disaster. Many times had to wait for several cars to fit in. Rooms with a balcony were by far the smallest we have ever been in. I am only 5'8" and my feet hung over the end of bed. Both toilet and shower were in separate cubicles as you entered the room. If you were a larger sized person, good luck. There were no decks you could walk all around for exercise. Now for the good part FOOD---NOT!!! Breakfast in the buffet was always chaotic with the same choice every day. Restaurants for breakfast and lunch were limited. Lunch at the buffet was pretty much the same everyday, although the fries were good.We had the 3 night specialty dining package. Modernano was good. No complaints. Cagney and Le Bistro were fair at best. At least they always had soft serve ice cream. We always play trivia on the ships with the winning team getting a prize, such as a pen or a luggage tag. Here the winners got nothing, but if you partook in many events, you got a card stamped for a prize at the end of the cruise. Many events were held in the atrium, which could not fit the crowd. Embarkation required a reservation (just like everything else) and took over an hour to check in. there was a major problem in the casino at the craps table, where if it happened on land, the person would have been tossed out in a second. Here they talked to the person and continued to allow her to play. Worst experience ever in a casino. Almost seemed like a plant. Overall the worst cruise from beginning to end we have ever had. We have been on RCL, Celebrity, Princess, Royal Majesty, Carnival, plus the two on SS Norway 25-30 years ago. We will never do a NCL again. Sorry for this long review, but we needed to vent and warn others what to expect. The ship is just too big with too many people. We spoke to many other guests some who were travel agents and they all said, never again. Read Less

NCL could not pay me to cruise on the Epic Again. The public areas were dirty. There were many areas that were left unclean throughout the day. The Wait and bar staff were extremely rude. In O'Sheehan's the bartenders would not make the drink correctly and when I asked for the missing ingredient, they got an attitude. The waiter during breakfast got an attitude when I asked for a Mimosa and didn't come back to the table for awhile. In Manhattan, our waiter was extremely rude and the food was cold. The service in every dining room was horribly slow. My steak in Cagney's was overdone, and the "crab cake" tasted like a potato patty. The only restaurant that had good service and served the food quick and hot was The Noodle Bar and Shanghai's. We ate there twice. The balcony cabins were ridiculously small. The shows were boring. Overall, this was the absolute worse NCL experience I have ever had. I do NOT recommend the Epic. Read Less
