Past Norwegian experiences were OK (not great but OK) and wanted to go to Tortola so this is the ship we choose Half the fixtures on the pool deck didn't work. No sprayers or misters functioning. Bar staff was grossly UNDERSTAFFED Ashtray poles were left chuck full for a day and a half - that is a HUGE fire hazard as people kept shoving cigarette butts into them anyway. The casino tables were absolutely disgusting! Crumbs, drink stains, dead skin and ashes wedged in the creases and felt. I don't thin they were vacuumed or brushed once during the entire 7 day trip. The card shufflers were constantly breaking down or just plain missing and pathetic looking pieces of plywood with cheap felt were stuffed in the opening were the machine once was. The food was OK at best. sent my meal back twice for either being too cold or not as ordered. Just a lot of poor attention to detail on this ship. It is obviously an older ship in need of some great detail and repair. Grossly understaffed at many of the restaurants and bar areas and just not a very functioning or clean ship. Been on a few Norwegian ships over the years and this one needs to be sold or scuttled - period! Read Less

Cruised on Norwegian Getaway a week before and the contrast could not be more drfinitive. The Epic from a cabin perspective is AWFUL. A mini suite is perhaps for 1 but certainly not 2. Shower and head offer zero privacy and no room to move once inside rither either enclosure. This should be a 5 star rated cruise but the cabin makes it a two. Even if one spends but 6 to 8 houts per day it makes the entite cruise a displeasure. Norwegian would be further ahead to get rid of this albatross. We will cruise again on Norwegian but NEVER on the Epic. On the positive side, specialty restaurants were special with outstanding food and service. Regular dining was excellent as well. Staff very good with all interactions. Entertainment was good but the idea of having to pay for some of the entertainment is another demotion from a 5 star rating. Spending over 5000 and then being asked to spend additional for the entertainment is a non starter. Embarkation was not very well handled but the fault is probably shared by Norwegian, port authority and the Coast Guard and Customs. Disembarking was the best we've experirnced on any of the more than 25 cruises we've been on. Cruise Norwegian but not the EPIC, to crowded, cabins awful Read Less

Wanted to see Jamaica , George Town as have never seen , We were also to go to Cozumel as well as Stirup bay Bahama. Ship with engine problems prior cruise . in stead of wanted cruise we went to Nassau and Great Stir up Bay Bahama. Boarded Sunday not Saturday and sat in port until Monday after 4 pm,. Drinks all had Florida tax as in port. Notified Friday night of change and impossible to get through to Norwegian number. Guest Services assured us the cruise line would reverse $250 for hotel and expense. After cruise NCL said guest services gave incorrect information, NCL should stand behind statements made by Norwegian guest services. Pools crowded and pool bar served those most obnoxious first and polite persons waited forever. Only ate in dining room once as we both had illness after, Never ate at buffet. Comedy shows and nightly entertainment was very good. Walking track was a joke . Follow up after cruise that was less than satisfactory was non-existent. Read Less

My elderly parents convinced the family to take a one last holiday together as they are convinced this will be their last. They had a good history with Norwegian so it was the 'go to' company. We booked 7 passages looking forward to seeing exotic places like Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. We arrived in Port Canaveral several days in advance and the day before the cruise was supposed to leave, we got a message from NCL informing us our 7 day cruise was now a 5 day cruise going to Bahamas and their private Island. It was also boarding on Sunday as opposed to Saturday They were very sorry and were allowing us to cancel or take 50% off the cost of the cruise. So picture this..... 4000 cruise passengers scrabbling at the last minute to find accommodations and in many cases a rental car. Oh yeah, the Daytona 500 was on that weekend as well. Bedlam. We decided that we had spent considerable time and effort to get their so we would make the best of it. Should have cancelled. I have good and bad things to say about the ship itself: The good: Rooms were very well laid out. The waiters and cleaning staff were fast, efficient and friendly. The chicken fingers were excellent Liked the ice cream machines The Circ show was very entertaining although the Ariel portion was cancelled The bad: Freestyle cruising should be called 'Free for All cruising'. If you want shows or premium dining, better book the second you get on the ship. We spent more time organizing and getting organized than doing anything. The food was just OK. The buffet got boring after about day 3. Lots or technical difficulties, pools not full, toilets backing up, Spice H2O big screen missing a bunch of pixels. These sound minor but my perception is NCL has cut back on their ship maintenance which could have been a contributing factor to the previous cruises engine failure. There's more but I have probably said enough. All in a very disappointing experience, and to boot, the whole family is still getting over the nasty cold we caught on the cruise. A poor last trip for Mom and Dad. Read Less

We took this cruise to try out the Epic. We were greatly disappointed due to engine problems;;;floor plan of cabin...crowded elevators....crowded garden cafe. We had to wait a long time just to get on ship. Because of engine problens, we were not able to visit the islands of St Thomas. and Tortolla. Also. we were not able to go to Norwegians private island. To top things off. we arrived back at Port Canaveral. The crew worked extra to try to make up for the many problems. the entertainment was not the best. We did enjoy the Beatles presentation. The other to shows were not to our likeing. The food was very good. Many selections allowed us to choose what we liked. The wait staff seemed friendly but always in a hurry. Our cabin housekeeper was fantastic. I was on the Epic Fail cruise of 2019. This cruise was best with problems that I mostly, luckily, avoided. I got to the terminal early and was checked in and seated in about 20 minutes total, very efficient. I was also among the first hundred regular people on the ship. Here is where the problems started. There was a "computer glitch" which inconvenienced me in that the servers were slower because they had to write everything down. What I didn't know was that this glitch was keeping people from boarding the ship. Huge crowds waiting in the terminal for about two hours, dodged that bullet. A little about me, I am 50 year old male traveling solo with an group of disc golfers. I have taken about twenty cruises now, mostly on NCL. I love cruising and try to cruise twice a year. I ate in the specialty restaurants almost the whole week, I never went to the buffet. As a solo I tested the freestyle concept and was pleased with the results. I purposely didn't make reservations and was still seated in Moderno inside ten minutes! The food as always was fantastic, and I choose new entrees from what I usually do to expand my pallet and was very pleased. Back to the ship, so day two we lost motor power and sat in the ocean for a couple hours. Then we slowly limped into port and crashed into the pier. My friends and I made lemonade out of the situation and went to a beach resort had beers and played putting games. Even before we left port I knew we were not making the private island, distance divided by speed means nope, so when they announced we were getting in to PC late I was laughing. Finally there was the fiasco with the arrival time. Originally told it was going to be eightish everyone scrambled to change flight plans, the next day we find out it is more like three-ish when we get in and everyone scrambles again. I drove so I didn't have to deal with that, but the level of negativity on the ship rose to astounding heights. There is a reason the ship docks at 5am, having people camped out in all the public areas waiting to get off and getting angrier all the time is probably one of the bigger reasons. I saw a woman forcing people to look at her kittens and puppies to keep them from getting angrier. Overall my worst cruise hands down, communication from the bridge was inexact and only occasional. I never saw the Cruise Director once after the first mechanical. The comedians were eating it up and hilarious but it really wasn't that funny. Finally Epic is not the ship to be stuck on, with its small outside areas and persistent smoke smell inside I was more than ready to get off the ship and that has never happened before. Read Less

On the second day we lost 2 engines, so we could not go to Tortola or Saint Thomas as we were supposed to, but instead were rerouted to San Juan for repairs. On the way in, we hit the dock twice. We left the next day to hit our final stop of the Bahamas, but the engines went out again and we were told we were going straight back to Port Canaveral. We were told we would arrive at 8 PM instead of 8 AM, but during the night they made an unscheduled stop in the Bahamas, without telling us, to pick up a part. That got us back to port Canaveral at 11 AM, after everyone had already changed their plans. Look, stuff happens, but it’s how you recover from it that’s important. The communication aboard the ship it was terrible, they slowly fed us information, and not complete information. They gave us a 100% credit for what we paid just for the cruise. In my opinion, this is a good start, it’s what they owe us. I’ve asked them what else they are going to do to keep us as customers, and so far have not received a response. The service of the crew was fantastic, as was the entertainment. One change I would recommend is not offering movies right below the noisy bar. Use the theater instead. Read Less

We departed on the Epic with plans for Tortola and St. Thomas.....that quickly changed as the ship developed engine problems and had to reduce one engine to propel us at 11-13 knots. As we limped into San Juan PR after the primary ports were cancelled, the ship managed to crash into to docking platforms, leaving the platforms on the bottom of the port and two large gouges in the hull. After a day in PR, we departed for NCL's private island in the Bahamas....only to be told later that the stop was cancelled. Things happen, and many happened to this voyage, however it was the handling of the information disseminated that became the issue. The announcements by the Captain, followed by the Cruise Director, were difficult to understand, partially due to poor PA system. The information given out seemed to be what they thought we wanted to hear rather than the truth. Time schedules were challenged by dividing the miles remaining by the speed, because the two didn't match. When the announcement came that we were returning to Cape Canaveral 15 hours late, we were told that everyone would have 60 minutes of free WiFi, or could use ship's computers and phones to rearrange their schedules. With 4000+ passengers, the WiFi was jammed. Why only 60 minutes rather than open for remaining day of travel? On the positive side, the entertainment was very good, the food was very good, and the interaction with the ship's working staff (housekeeping, food servers, bartenders, support staff, etc) was provided by polite and helpful people. The rooms were clean and provided for. The layout of the rooms was different....with abundance of storage, but little room to maneuver, not allowing two people to pass each other. The layout of the ship was also challenging, having only two groups of elevators, one at the front and one at the back (none in the middle) of a very long ship. The casino was extremely large in the center of the ship, which required us to walk through an large area where smoking was allowed, within an already crowed ship. Read Less

We were on the Norwegian Epic. A terrible experience as soon as we arrived. Only one gangplanck was working so 4,000 passengers had to board through the same entry point. We waited outside in that line for 45 minutes. Then on day two the ship had a mechanical issue and we came to a dead stop at sea. From that point forward they only were able to cruise with one engine which resulted in us not going to any of our planned stops in Tortola, St Thomas, and Great Stirrup Cay (their private island in the Bahamas. We did make an unscheduled one day stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, presumably so they could check on the malfunctions. OH, did I mention that when docking in San Juan the ship hit the pier hard enough to destroy and SINK two of the concrete platforms used for mooring the ship? They lied about or distorted the facts concerning our plans and return times to Port Canaveral, advising all passengers to change their flights or other port transportation arrangements for a 12 hour late arrival. Then we arrived only about 5 hours late and those that had already changed their plans were stuck on the ship or in a hotel for another night. They first offered all passengers a 50% credit to use a a future NCL cruise within 24 months, then changed it to full credit when hundreds of passengers vocally protested in the ship's atrium. Currently they are refusing to provide cash refunds to those of us who travel infrequently and I was treated rudely when I called their Customer Relations department in Miami. To close, this was a seven day cruise, with six long and boring days at sea, with many extra fees for our "all inclusive" fare such as $6.00 per liter bottle of water in your cabin. I would not recommend NCL to anyone. Read Less

We understand ship let Port knowing there were mechanical issues with the engines. After 1st night at sea fire doors locked while we were in the lounge some minor panic no one knew what was going on. No announcement of what the issue was. Rumor was crew had a fight and required a lock down. Next boat stopped in the middle of the sea for over an hour, no explanation, staff said boat was just adjusting the schedule to arrive at first port. About an hour later Captain announced engine problems and we would miss our 2 port and were heading directly to San Jaun PR. So we were on the ship for 3 full days at sea before reaching PR. Boat was traveling at half speed 11 knots. They offered 50% off next cruise. Next we arrived in San Jaun in the evening. Got off the boat next morning and saw large gashes in side of hull. Were told by people on the dock boat hit the dock. Relatives sent us news video. Captain never reported the incident to the guests on the boat. Next we left PR after repairs to the engine and again it failed at sea and they again canceled the final port of call Grand Strup and offered 100% credit on next cruise. So it took 3 days to get back to Port. Than day before we arrived captain notified us that we would not make the port in time for all of our return home flights. All 4,000 people had to scramble to make new reservations home. Phones on ship were jammed internet was jammed it too half a day to make new plans to get home. Long lines at guest services, people angry and upset. Communication is inconsistent and not accurate. Captain was terrible could not understand announcements. Mixed messages from each person you talked to. If they had a serious crises Iam not sure it would go very well. Very poor management of communications. They were intentionally holding back information and trying to reduce their cost exposure of the events. Clearly they did not have the best interest of the guest as first priority its was all about $$$ at NCL. Allow us to stay on the ship overnight because they got back to port late, that was a big circle jerk getting offf the boat and back on took over 4 hours of being in the terminal to re-board slepping your luggage around. The whole trip was a nightmare due to the poor management of communications on the ship and holding back information. Still to this day we do not really know what happend they wont tell the people the truth. Not a transparent organization at all. Must be better cruise lines than this. Read Less

I chose this cruise because my friend was going to come with me. It would be her first cruise ever and I thought Norwegian was a good starting point. I especially wanted her to see The Baths in Tortola. The cruise didn’t turn out even slightly like I imagined it would. You can look on YouTube for the many videos of the mess that happened on this ill fated cruise. It was awful. We not only missed all of our ports of call, we also missed the Latitudes parties and dinner with an officer. We were told that all of the officer staff was working on the engine problems. I’m sure the hotel manager was very helpful. The only good thing was that we got our cruise fare back as a future cruise credit. The main disappointment was that we were basically kept in the dark about what was happening. When the captain did come on over the intercom, you couldn’t understand anything he said. Luckily the cruise director would often reinterpret what he said into English. We had 3 separate times communicated to us about our arrival into Port Canaveral. People were crowding the reception area trying to change their flights home. It was ridiculous. Disembarkation was unorganized and hectic. The baggage claim area was a zoo. It was the worst ending to a sorry cruise. Read Less

I was on this cruise with a large group and meeting friends from prior cruises. The embarkment was to long waiting approx over 2hrs standing for prior cruisers from the holy ship to get off. They left the ship smelling of urine. The theatre, bliss lounge and main dining rooms floors and rugs were sticky. The hall ways stunk of urine. Other cruisers ask to have urine carpet remove n replaced in front of there stateroom . The solo lounge with two large groups was so loud other arrangements should have been made. Me and another cruisers was on the tender Cayman islands when we were trying to get back on the ship half the passengers were off a fire started. We were told to stay back n not to get off. The mate was yelling at the pilot to get the button for extinguisher but I dont think he heard mate then a passenger yell at the pilot and passenger tried pushing the button. Me n my friend were frightened n wanted to get off the tender. Safety is the main issue. We reported this fire to customer service n we never heard a word while on cruise I reported this again thru email to ncl waiting hmmmhmmmm. I have never ever been disappointed with cruise ncl ships. I have been on the epic 3 times. But this time I was not pleased. Read Less

I took this cruise to relax and be taken care of for a few days. It's been a very stressful 3 years since I had been able to cruise due to family matters. I've been on several lines over the years (Carnival, Costa, HAL and Princess). I found a last-minute deal on Epic. I booked it at 1pm the day before it sailed, knowing nothing about NCL (except I always thought their ships were ugly when I saw them in port). So I made a leap of faith and at 5am the next morning super shuttle picked me up for my flight to Orlando. Uneventful flight, got a transfers to the ship from Contrans Shuttle (I recommend them). Arrived at Port Canaveral about 12:30pm. It was a total mob scene. If you are familiar with the terminal, the line wound around outside the terminal - back and forth THREE times from the luggage drop-off clear to the other end of the terminal building. Apparently it was a surprise EPIC was there. Once I got inside I noticed two of the 4 metal detectors were not in use and eight of the 38 check in stations were not staffed. Why? Just my opinion but when you have 4000+ people boarding it should be all-hands-on-deck. Time to board the ship: Over two hours. My cabin was ready, so I went there. It was filthy dirty. Smears on the headboard, cabinets, etc. Too much leftover DNA from the previous guest. I even had the executive housekeeper come to the cabin. When I asked for some cleaning products I was told no. All the food on-board was fine to good. The only thing that stands out in my memory is the perfectly ripe fruit. I dined in the MDR and buffet (no specialty). The only thing I took one bit of and set aside was the pizza. I'm a picky eater and "foodie" but I adjust my expectations accordingly. Service was good to very good (except for the host in the MDR, noted below). The rest of my review, will be a simple cut-and-paste from the survey with names redacted. I'm done with NCL, so that's all I want to do. If someone is placed in a disabled cabin, there needs to be printed instructions for the door. Nobody knew how it worked, initially. My cabin (12270)was dirty; fingerprints, smears on the headboard and cabinets, mystery goo on the door handles. I asked a manager named S***** for cleaning product so I could clean the cabin to my standards. He said "no". Then he told me I could not have a piece of paper to make reminder note for the door. The first night there were no coffee packets for the coffee maker. Housekeeping did not deliver any when I called. The next morning about 4am I called 00 to see where my coffee packets were. I was told my only options were to pay room service $7.95 or go get the coffee myself. Wrong answer. FYI - the right answer would have been "we'll send some right up, no charge". Then there's S***** in the Manhattan room who would not give me a pager when there was a wait. Telling customers "NO" seems to be a theme on NCL. Now for the good. Marco, cabin steward, did an excellent job. Wouter, guest services, was very helpful. Valeria, Locksley and all the staff in the Manhattan and Taste dining rooms did a great job. This was my first - and last cruise on NCL. Read Less

We (my husband and I) have been on a few different cruise lines and Norwegian was the worst. Customer service from bar tenders, to waiters, to management staff were all in need of customer service training. I had asked to call Norwegian Customer Relations while we were on the boat day 1 of 10 and was told it would be $4.99 per minute. We also had an incident at O'sheehans restaurant and we ordered wings. When they came, there was one wing that was wrapped in several long human hairs. When we brought it to the waitresses attention, she told us that it was hair from the chicken...my jaw dropped and I shook my head and told her chickens have feathers, not hair, and asked for a manager. We had bartenders, at multiple bars on the boat, that were rude and did not acknowledge our presence for over 15 minutes. No one ever said "hello" or "I will be right with you". Had another bar tender tell us that a certain type of alcohol was not included in the alcohol package. 2 days later found out that it was. Had another sales employee ask me how much I paid for my diamond bracelet while looking at watches. Made me very uncomfortable and chose to leave the sales table. Had a casino cashier employee tell us that our lotto ticket was not a winner. Took the ticket to the players club booth and asked them to scan and double check and turns out it was $100 winner. Guest services employees and the internet manager were all very short and rude. The internet manager took my phone right out of my hand when I was trying to explain what the problem was. Overall, it seemed like there were a majority of boat employees who were dissatisfied with their jobs and it showed in their customer service. Several times we would be walking around on the boat and just pass by an employee and say hello and they never replied anything at all. I started asking employees why they were having a bad day because I couldn't understand why everyone was so unwelcoming. The ships pool was also very disappointing. The entire pool desk seemed like a kiddy area and were all seperated rectangle, very small, pools. Very unhappy with our entire experience with Norwegian. Read Less

The Norwegian Epic more like an episode of Faulty Towers than a floating hotel. Never did know who cleaned our room, morning coffee room service forgot atleast one item every morning for 7 days from a consistent menu…including forgetting my actual coffee on day six. They assured me there was service on final day and lady on phone guaranteed they would pick up my door knob menu (I told her my scepticism)…sure enough they never picked up menu or brought coffee. Never did get disembarkation information and luggage tags were all gone before my neighbour complained to me about same problem. Telephone light was like a spot light that would not stay off, so we put under the bed. Push button for Room Service and got Box Office, push button for Operator and got Excursion Desk…gave up using the phone. Long lines for entertainment venues that were not suited for entertainment (pillars in the way and standing room crowds). Ship with 4,200 guests and not big enough facilities. Food was adequate but not fantastic. Norwegian are good at marketing but poor on customer service. This was our seventh cruise (various lines) and would not recommend for first time cruisers because it will turn you off from cruising with other better cruise lines. I would never go on EPIC again. We have gone on almost a dozen cruises and this one was a disappointment. We thought such a large ship would have nice amenities but it was just the opposite. Bigger is definitely not better. Long lines for embarkation with busses dropping people off by the line where they just merged while others had been standing in line a long time. The cabin set up was not good. There was a shower just to the right as you walked in and across the small hall to the left was the toilet. Both had round sliding glass doors. There was a sink next to the shower. I don't know how large people even got into the toilet room. I could sit on the couch and rest my foot on the wall on the other side of the room. On our last cruise with Holland America, there was a nice sized bathroom that even had a tub in it. Another thing is that there were only two sets of elevators, one on each end, where on all the other smaller cruise ships they had THREE sets, including one in the middle, which made getting around a lot easier. The ship holds about 4600 people plus crew and staff. There were lines for EVERYTHING! The first day we got in line for dining at 6:23. Got to the head of the line at 6:40. Then we found out we'd been in the line for those waiting for reservations and they gave us a buzzer and said it would be at least another 30 minutes more. We looked all over the ship to find a place to sit. The only chairs were at the bar area where you had to buy a drink, at the slots or gaming tables where you had to gamble, and a few seats in a loud entertainment area. We finally located a window seat and drug over some hard back wooden chairs. At 7:17 the buzzer rang. But alas, it was only to be in another line. At 7:24 we were finally seated and looking at a menu. The service was slow. We didn’t get out until 9:00. Even with long lines, the evening meal was the best thing on the ship, although much to our disappointment, we were informed that they had stopped serving lobster two years ago. There was NO comfortable seating in quiet areas where people could go to visit like there have been on all the other ships we've been on. There were no laundry facilities, which is hard on a long voyage. The venues for entertainment were very small for the number of people onboard, so they must have decided to manage that by CHARGING for the nice shows to weed people out. They also charged for movies on the TV. It was as if planning on the ship layout and the organization of the ship had been an annoying afterthought. Cabins were small and strangely laid out and it seemed as if they were trying to stuff as many people as possible on the ship while minimizing the areas for entertainment, swimming facilities, and quiet seating areas. We saw a hypnotist, but the venue was in a bar and people were on high chairs and it was difficult to even see what was going on. It wasn't fair for the performer. Long lines were everywhere. People we talked to said they'd never use this cruise line again. Everything was open seating at the restaurant, so there was not a consistent connection with those who served us so no relationships could be formed. We will be cruising again, but not with this cruise line. We did love the view from our balcony and the excursions were fun and interesting. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the length and itinerary. It left 3 days after our wedding so it was the perfect timing, we loved the length of the cruise and the places it was going. The ship was out dated, the room felt grimey... we had a balcony suite. The room was smaller than an interior room we had on a Royal Caribbean ship this past spring, the layout is poor... there is no privacy to the bathroom, the toilet is in like a shower stall with a sliding shower door that is frosted glass. The specialty restaurants were ALWAYS booked until 9pm we had to book 4 days in advance just to get dinner before 10pm. The drink package did not include top shelf liqour, red bull or coffee or bottle water which we were used to on RC ships. The bars were always understaffed and the staff didnt seem like they were in good moods ever... The rest of the staff was great for the most part. We did not want to put a credit card on file as they put a $300 hold on your card and do not release the money for up to a month after the cruise. Being newlyweds we didn't have a lot of extra money to have $300 held for that long so wanted to put cash on the account instead. Their internet was down so we could not get money out of the ATM and our room cards kept getting shut off which made it so we couldn't use our drink package that we already paid for which was embarrassing and super inconvenient since we didn't plan on buying anything on the ship anyways seeing how we had the drink and restaurant package already. That happened 4 times and each time we had to go to the help desk to have them fix it and every time we did they were very rude about it. The circus was great, the food served during the dinner part of it wasn't that great and you had to eat what they gave you, there wasn't different options on the menu for it so for us it was $18 with the specialty dining package but regularly it was around $50 per person. The box office was only open from 4:30 - 6 every day which was also inconvenient.. the app only had each days itinerary on it so you could not see or book anything for any other day so we really didn't ever know what was going on.. The crowd seemed to be mostly people in their 50's and up which might have been another reason why we did not have as good of a time as usual. We will be sticking to Royal Caribbean from now on. Price was a deciding factor. We overall did not like this cruise at all. Inside staterooms are awful. No space to put things and lighting was very lacking. NCL has taken lobster, shrimp cocktails and escargot off the dining menu unless you go into a pay restaurant. Food selection in the buffet area was better than the main dining rooms. Never once did the main dining staff ever introduce themselves. You had to go through the smokey casino to get to the dining rooms. One night it smelled so bad that it triggered an asthma attack with one of friends and they missed the next 2 ports. The ship was very clean but configuration was not what we would call convenient. The entertainment was not easy to get into unless you reserved a spot and most were so crowded that it was standing room only. Only saw 1 show and had to stand for most of it. Our form of entertainment was in the atrium and it also lacked seating. We were asked to answer survey questions and voiced our concerns and no one ever got back with us. Ports of call were great...had a blast. Did not go to the private island. In Jamaica we went to Bamboo Beach VIP and had a blast. Food, entertainment, drinks and private beach (only 17 of us) was well worth $99 each as the alcohol was free flowing and potent. Very beautiful area and our tour guide Anne Marie was fantastic. Can't wait to go back but won't be on a NCL ship. Read Less

This was my 13th cruise (7th with NCL) and by far the worse cruise I have ever taken. The positive: Best room steward ever- Male name (Aft Cabins on Deck 13). He was funny and offered recommendations in port. I will not hold it against him that he said the Vacation Hero cards were 'mandatory.' Ship maintenance- While part of the outside deck was closed for construction which was a huge negative, I think the overall ship has held up pretty well for going on 10 years old. It was relatively clean with minimal rust. Some of the deck chairs and carpets could be replaced but overall not bad. The negative: Crew- by far the rudest crew members I have ever dealt with. Some were down right nasty to deal with. The also openly complained about other workers (including the cruise director). Food- The buffet at lunch, dinner and late night, was lacking in so many ways. Items repeated in station after station. It was interesting to compare what Sea Food night on the brand new Bliss got you vs. the 10 year old Epic. The food was lacking in overall taste and temperature. Even in the specialty restaurants, the quality and portions went down and the price went up. I feel bad for those who do not have the dining plan. They are being grossly over charged. But pricing high is a sure fire way to get people to choose the dining plan as a free at sea option. Shore Excursions- I had booked 5 excursions through NCL and 2 were canceled with no real explanation. Initially when I saw the first refund on my account I asked the excursion desk about it and they said it was a credit from the free at sea promotion. But that credit should be for $50, not $53.90 like it stated on my account. The crew had no idea. Later that night I received a letter that the excursion was canceled. Later on in the cruise, another was canceled due to "logistics." Guest Services- 2 from guest services are an embarrassment to NCL. They are extremely rude and unhelpful with questions. Too busy chatting with each other. Also, woman’s name, every time I saw her, had stains on her white shirt. It looked like coffee or grease. It was very distracting and very unprofessional. I would expect a woman in the service industry to hold herself to higher standards, especially while serving American clients. Lines- Even with reservations, I had to stand in like for 15 minutes just to check in. People would line for or 30 mins in advance of a restaurant opening just to get a seat. Same holds true for the theater. If this was my first cruise I don't know how I would have reacted. I know it would be the first and last time I sail with NCL. But I have had great experience with them and will say that this cruise was a one off. Ill sail with NCL again when they shape up and lay off the nickeling and diming and offer some better training to their crew. Read Less

My wife and I took this cruise to see some ports we have not visited yet. We sailed on Saturday afternoon and by Tuesday night I was coming down with a cold. My wife had it by Wednesday morning. I would expect that both of us getting it at the same time would mean that we contracted it from the stateroom. The one place we touched everything together. So my feeling is that the staterooms are not disinfected very well between cruises. By the end of the cruise many people we spoke to had the cold or knew someone that had it, as well as the crew. The food at the buffet was okay, not much of a daily selection. We ate at some of the specialty restaurants including La Bistro-very good experience. Next, Moderno, which we ate at twice because it was so good the first time. Unfortunately the second time I waited at least 15 minutes for one of the selections I wanted and then it was cold. This is a Brazilian type restaurant where you keep your green card up on the table and the selections are brought around until you turn your card to red. Quite disappointed this one selection I wanted, filet, I only saw the second time after about 30 to 40 minutes and then it was cold. We were going to eat there a third time but decided the Japanese Hibachi would be a better choice. Food, quite good but had to ask twice for clean plates as well as my wife once, as well as a neighbor complaint. Plates were grease! Lack of soap or hot water. Our final selection was the Cirque of Dreams was excellent!!! Well worth it! Request seating on he balcony though, you will see best! Other complaints are the only milk for my cereal in the morning was whole milk! Whole milk it for babies, not adults. I did find skim milk out on the back deck after day 8 but I doubt it was truly skim milk, didn't look or taste like skim. Shows were quite good but if you weren't in the Epic theater there was not much room in any other places to see shows, too small for 4000 people! Another problem was in Grand Caymen we had to use a tender to get to shore because of sea conditions. We had to use tenders to get to shore and it seemed no one knew what they were doing getting people to shore. It was almost 1 1/2 hours after we boarded the tender before we got to shore! We waited in queue to dock! There you go.... Read Less

Embarkation was a nightmare. Not a good way to start the cruise. Waited in line for an hour and a half to board in the heat. Cabin - was just ok. At least I had closet doors unlike a lot of other solo guests. The carpet was filthy and stained. The 2 plugs are in wacky locations. My power strip did not fit the space they were in. I would have to unplug one thing to charge another or to use something. Annoying. The toilet kept stopping up and so did the sink. The lighting was awful in the solo cabin I had on Deck 11.The hallway was extremely narrow, smelled terrible and there was always at least 3 cleaning carts parked in them. Along with the stewards who were pretty noisy. My steward did a good job but he was annoying. He was constantly calling my cabin...even when the do not disturb sign was placed. I had the do not disturb sign out and he entered my cabin anyway. He said I called and you didn't answer. ????? One of the entrance doors to the solo area never worked with the key card. This was inconvenient and it was never fixed. There was something going on with the ventilation on the ship. So many people were coughing and hacking and complaining. I was one of them and I among others still have it. This made sleeping impossible...so did my noisy neighbor in the adjoining cabin and the stewards in the hall that were outside my door constantly. Food- I was not impressed with the food. My last cruise was on the Escape and I loved the food. The service in the Manhattan Room was very slow. The singer in the Manhattan Room was so loud on the last night of the cruise... it was borderline obnoxious. O'Sheehans is usually one of my favorite places. Our waiter "forgot" he was waiting on us one day midway through our meal. When we asked for service he said did you check in up front? Shows - I loved the cirque show...the food was not impressive. I missed Priscilla Queen of the Desert because I was miserable from coughing; and was unaware how limited the shows were. Did not get to see it. Pool area- actually liked the outdoor food they offered and usually the music. The bartenders were not very friendly and seats were scarce. H20 - Stairs to get to the bar? Not very well thought out.We spent most of our time there on the Escape. None was spent there on the Epic. My friend is disabled and that made it inaccessible. Solo lounge - was relatively small and needed a better variety of snacks other than cookies. The bartender during bar hours was a plus and he was very nice. Elevators - Need one mid ship. I did not enjoy going through the smokey casino to get to the other end of the ship. Tinders - Yikes Not fun.One of them actually caught on fire. We had to tinder into another side of Grand Cayman which made us have to taxi to the port we were supposed to be at. This cost us extra money and time was lost that could have been spent in the port. Nothing back from NCL for this inconvenience. Disembarkation - was the best experience. Easy and seamless. I could not wait to get off of the ship. I was counting down the days...that is pretty sad. Ports - other than Tinder ports the process went smoothly to visit the ports. The ports were nice and we had good weather for the most part. The company I shared on this cruise was nice. The solo coordinator Veronica was wonderful. I will not go on the Epic again. I had 3 future booked cruises that happened to be on the Epic. They are canceled. Perhaps the Escape spoiled me - The crew was nicer, the bartenders were nicer. The ship and my room were immaculate and the food was exceptional. This experience will not keep me from cruising with NCL ...I just won't cruise on this ship anymore. Read Less

I have travelled to many places in the Caribbean and Mexico before but chose this cruise based on the ports. Id only been to Jamaica before so looked forward to new places. My friend had never been to the Caribbean before so it was a good fit. I was not impressed with the Epic. There was way too much air conditioning everywhere. I froze and never went anywhere without my sweater. The Atrium was so noisy and in a weird place with the customer service desks and excursions desks right there. It was very hard to hear. There was not enough daytime entertainment especially on sea days. The same shows that were on at night should have been on during the day too. Not everyone wants to play bingo. The daytime activities were hokey. The halls smelled of urine. The elevators took forever and it was not unusual to wait 10 minutes for one. The food in general was good but we had several meals of lamb and steak that were not the best cuts and were chewy. We waited one hour to receive our breakfast in "Taste" The 2.5 hour wait to board the ship was unacceptable. There was a problem from the previous sailing but information should have been shared with those of us in line. Read Less

We had not sailed on a ship this large and wanted to try it. We were disappointed in our balcony room (private balcony meant enclosed with no good way to relax and look at the ocean; had to stand to see thru the large window). Room functionality was poor. The layout of the room was awkward for storage, bath setup, etc. Very poor lighting for mirrors. The king bed was too short. We were disappointed in all food. None of it was especially tasty. Pretty presentation, but poor in flavor. It was too crowded; reservations had to be made for shows, and dining. Too many lines for comedy clubs, tenders, etc. Less people would have been helpful. Ship had no real good places to relax and view the ocean, except the 15th floor sun deck which was always crowded. I have been on 12 cruises, 6 different cruiselines includng Carnival and Celebrity. This ship and cruise would rate at the bottom of my cruises. Read Less

This was our second cruise with Norwegian, first time on the Epic. We were surprised by our disappointment on the service, food quality and terrible entertainment. The ship is starting to look very tired and is in need some upgrades. The pool, very underwhelming considering that there are 4000 people aboard and the pool is no bigger than a hot tub. The hot tubs were cold anytime during our 11 days on board. I was surprised that they still allow smoking inside the casino since children could walk through at any time. Our cabin was well equipped given we traveled with our 12 year old daughter and 7 year old son, however, we were not happy with the lack of cold water provided to our shower and therefore had to be very careful when we showered to avoid being scalded. When there are four people staying in a cabin it would be nice to have more chairs for the balcony. Dining was terrible. Taste restaurant had horrible service. The food was mediocre at best. The only good experiences we had were at the Noodle Bar and Le Bistro. The service at these two were amazing. Entertainment was so terrible that we left many of the areas in which it was located. The piano guy was horrific. It was embarrassing actually. The band that plaid on the pool deck, they were so terrible that people were making faces at them when they would start singing. Our only shore excursion planned through the ship was cancelled after we went on an hour bus ride into the middle of Routan and were turned around for a washed out road. Apparently the workers of the resort were on strike and they tried to take us in a back road that was terribly dangerous. We were refunded our money but after spending two hours in a bus with no air conditioning we were not impressed. We were not given any notice that the private island in Belize was not all inclusive. We were shocked to learn this when we went to order drinks on the beach. Some warming would have been nice. We travelled with our children and my 7 year old son loved the experience and would like to cruise again. My 12 year old who is almost 13 was denied access to the Entourage club and I didn't think that her being 4 months away from her 13th birthday would be a big deal, but apparently they are very strict to this rule and it devastated her. I will cruise again but not ever going back on the Epic. Read Less
