Hi De Hi on the High Seas

Review for Marella Spirit to Spain

Our first time on a cruise and having travelled with Tui previously we thought we were in safe hands. Some very good experiences onboard; the staff were excellent, the Tui excursions were well organised and guides very good. However the entertainment wasn’t for us, very Hi De Hi, they tried hard but lacked any sophistication. The food was plentiful though more canteen than cuisine. The ship was ...

Chose this cruise because many of the places we hadn't visited before and also the ship itself, been on Spirit 4 times before and it never disappointed we liked the layout of the ship the crew and all the staff were top rank always pleasant and helpful which to us was the most important criteria for a good cruise. Now from here we go downhill Marella as it's now called seem to be trying to cheapen ...

Travelled on this ship approx 8 years ago, it was brilliant, but now the food was poor, cold, and boring, the shows were terrible, I've never heard such screeching, from the singers, had to leave it was that bad. (The English comedien was really good). The cabins were shabby to say the least, and the towels were grey and thread bare. Luckily this ship is going out of service this year, but whoever ...

As a regular cruiser with thomson now marella cruises, we decide to try the oldest vessel in the fleet, the ship itself is well worn but that is expected, The noise of the vessel is bearable and the permanent shaking whilst either sitting relaxed or in one of the bars is all part of sailing with an old ship. But my wife's and I main concern aswel as other passengers was the most important thing ...

Not Really a Marella Cruise Ship

Review for Marella Spirit to Europe - Western Mediterranean

The ship itself is old and tired but everyone knows this in advance with a bit of research. What is harder to find out is that the ship is actually leased by Marella from a Greek company (Celestyal Cruises). Consequently the Captain and senior officers are Greek, which is perfectly fine. The problem is that they are in charge of the food and drinks too and the food is simply no where near as ...

Just got back from our cruise. The ship is very tired, looks like a 1980 Travel Lodge in places. Very spacious cabin, we were on deck 4, cabin 308. Lots of cupboard and draw space but no fridge. The shower was small but did the job, but the flushing of the loo was hit and miss. The food was very good. Ate in the Compass Rose every night and we were never disappointed. The Lido restaurant was ...

First Time Cruiser • Age 50s

As first time cruisers, we weren't sure what to expect. I had read that the ship was dated and boy it is. Cabins are like a 70s bond movie and are dark and dreary , although I expect any inside cabin would feel like this. The shower an old style shower head and curtain. but it does the job! The rest of the ship feels old and in need of a re-make but again some of the older guests seem to like ...

Disappointing Ship

We have used Thompson for a few cruises and in particular the Spirit (3 times), but this time we noticed that the food was not to the same standard and the entertainment was lacking. We chose an outside cabin on deck 7 which was perfect, it had a bath and a shower. It was roomy and clean and the steward was particularly good, making us a towel animal every day for the full 14 days of the cruise. ...

Spirit was 34 years old and being scrapped later in 2017. Hence some problems are expected ... there was a toilet failure (few hours), lost hot water (few hours), but these are minor problems! They didn't spoil the cruise! Food was excellent! Cabin steward great! Cabin was comfortable and scrupulously clean. It was a very pleasant cruise, spoiled by only one thing ... Having done many cruises ...
