Chose this cruise, Adriatic Affair, because it had the best itinerary of all the cruise ships operating around Croatia. We normally cruise with P&O but their itinerary for Croatia is very poor. Outward journey, from Manchester to Dubrovnik, was excellent albeit at a ridiculous time of 05:20hrs which meant we had no sleep that night. Organisation at Dubrovnik to the ship was also excellent (even the cabin was available). We did a lot of TUI organised excursions which were very good and value for money but that meant we didn't spend large parts of the day sunbathing so, although we had no problem finding sunbeds, we don't know what the situation was during the middle of the day. We normally try to have a superior balcony cabin with P&O but had to settle for a Deluxe double on Spirit however we didn't miss not having a balcony and indeed the cabin itself was larger than the P&O ones. There was some vibration in the cabin even on Deck 8 but it didn't bother us. The food in the Dining rooms was generally very good although P&O does give a bigger and better choice at Dinner. But you can have too much of restaurant meals on cruises so to be able to get a meat pie, and even a choice of same, albeit only once a week at lunchtime, was brilliant. The service on the cruise was excellent and was particularly impressed with the staff tidying up in the buffet restaurant who I reckon did a better job than we have seen of late on P&O. The only bad point was that the handrails on the stairways always felt sticky so we were reluctant to hold onto them. When it came to disembarkation we were moving to a hotel and I was initially concerned that we would be dumped at the hotel hours before our room was ready; but that wasn't the case as we were allowed to stay on board, sunbathe and have lunch before catching the coach. The cost of drinks on-board was very reasonable and nearly up to P&O standards. When I first booked this cruise I was rather apprehensive since Spirit is quite old compared with the ships we are used to but all-in-all I reckon we made a good choice and would happily cruise again with Thomson even on their older ships. It's a pity that the trend seems to be to have bigger ships because at least on the smaller ships you don't have to traipse for ages just to get anywhere. Read Less

from embarkation to disembarkation I can not fault anything. the ports we visited were amazing. staff excellent, entertainment very good. we were on deck four outside cabin with a window central position did not feel any vibration or noise. cabin was clean with plenty of storage. we had single bed which were very comfortable. deck 3 I think will only have port holes. we ate in the a la carte which was worth very penny. the ship is small and very clean. food excellent in all areas, we did not go on any excursions we did our own thing. kopor we walked around town and then caught the local auto bus to piran lovely coastal drive. venice we used the water taxi 30 euros return for two from port to st marks square sail away was amazing. I like that we did not have to wait for luggage at Dubrovnik airport straight to boat and departing straight to security they did not weigh our hand luggage. for the smokers deck six left side and outside high spirits bar. also dubrovnik airport after security 2nd floor. would recommend to anyone and adult only. Ok, so we have never been on a cruise. Before deciding to jump in and book a really expensive one for our wedding anniversary, we thought that we would try a 'cheaper' short cruise. This looked just the ticket. We knew from reviews roughly what to expect. An older ship, a bit tired and supposedly noisy. Well, yes it is a bit tired but apart from an occasional place and time, little noise was experienced. By way of any compensation was the food and the staff. Good quality fayre with a really friendly crew. The after dinner entertainment was a bit limited and we expected a disco of some sort, but this wasn't until 11.30 and when you are up and out on a tour early the next morning, this is a bit silly. Overall, a good learning curve. This ship has one more year so if you like a friendly but older ship, give it a try. Read Less

My friend and I had heard a lot of good reports on cruising but we were very dubious. We need not have been, returned yesterday from the Venetian Vista cruise and cant fault it. The staff, food, destinations, organisation etc were excellent. I would recommend it to anyone, any age. We did an adult only which was great. The entertainment was really good and catered for all preferences. We spent most evenings in the High Spirits lounge with the resident band and the excellent entertainments manager George who was a complete natural compere for the various quizzes. The cabin stewards did a brilliant job and were so friendly as were all the waiters. I wasn't expecting much with the food as it is mass produced, how wrong I was, it was a very good standard and they were happy to help with any special requests. We will definitely be going on another Thomson cruise and especially this ship which was a perfect size, not to big to be impersonal. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destinations and were not disappointed but the SHIP was DREADFUL. This very, very tired ship had the Norovirus the week before our trip so the swimming pools were emptied and nets put over them which looked terrible, long queues for mediocre food because it all had to be served by staff with plastic gloves,we were sprayed constantly in an effort to control the virus, not how you want to spend a holiday. We did not want to join a group for our evening meal and were made to feel a nuisance and always had to wait at the side of the queue for a table.. However the worse experience was the plumbing, daily blocked toilets, dirty water coming up through the bath plug and black water from the shower, if it had been an hotel room we would have checked out. However, the staff were brilliant always available to clean away the dirty water and constantly cheerful,we would not use Thomson's again. Read Less

We chose this particular cruise for its destinations as our son lives in Malta and we hadnt visited any of the other ports before. After a perfect flight and transfer we arrived at the ship around 10am expecting the usual delays in processing documentation and long wait for our cabins, however all was processed quickly and we were shown stright to our cabins, they were still being prepared so we took advantage of the gorgeous weather on deck while we waited for them. We had read reviews and knew that the Spirit was going out of commission in November and was a little 'tired' in places. This was most evident in the cabins which were quite shabby with old shower rooms, weak showers and loose floor tiles, however it was clean and housekeeping couldn't be faulted with their twice daily visits. We had chosen an outside cabin with a porthole, which was sufficient for us in comparison to an inside with no window. We didn't read the reviews properly when selecting cabins however and ended up at the rear of the ship on deck 2 ( despite asking the Thomson's agent to select 2 together in a decent location). The noise & vibration at this position was quite bad and we only had a good sleep with the aid of few drinks and my trusty earplugs! As it's a smaller ship than most there are fewer restaurants, the Lido is self service buffet style, good for breakfast if you're heading out early or lunch. We found plenty of options with a great variety of salads and hot food. Afternoon tea was served from 3 which we didn't get round to trying as we never felt hungry! Due to an outbreak of gastric symptoms on the previous cruise Norovirus precautions were in place all over the ship with assisted service in the buffet restaurant but this, if anything, improved the service in our opinion! We ate in The Compass Room restaurant most mornings and evenings, here we found lovely food with excellent waiter service, some queues developed around 8pm most nights but there were quickly & efficiently cleared. There was a snack bar poolside serving food all day until 1am if you wanted it. Due to the precautions the pools were closed most of the week, only opening for the last 2 days. The entertainment was where this cruise really excelled. The Broadway lounge presents a different show each night, it's only an hour long but is repeated later in the evening so everyone has a chance to see it. All of the shows were worthy of the the west end and definitely not to be missed. There was something to do all day if you wanted it, quizzes, games, demonstrations, talks, & of course the essential bingo! We booked 2 excursions, Taormina & Montenegro which were excellent, deciding to do our own thing in Taranto, Malta and Igoumenitsa. I wouldn't recommend going alone in either Taranto or Igoumenitsa, we walked quite a distance (in temperatures around 32°) in both ports before reaching the tourist areas and in hindsight should have booked excursions or stayed on ship. Shabby cabin aside we couldn't fault this cruise, a first for my husband's 83 year old mother who thoroughly enjoyed it. We were all inclusive which avoided large bills and tips were included in our price ( although we did tip our favourite waiting, bar and housekeeping staff on the last night). Having cruised several times before I can honestly say that Thomson's surpassed all our expectations and we'll definitely choose them again! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itenaries for both weeks. We could not have made a better choice. The ship is small by comparison to many others but that is certainly part of its appeal. A friendly, informal ship with wonderful staff and a great onboard entertainment crew. Restaurants: Sciroccos which incurs a cost, but £19.99 for a 4 course meal is outstanding value. We were serenaded by the waiters on our 20th wedding anniversary during our meal here. Compass is formal dining, waiter service and where the Captains evenings are held. The lido buffet is a help yourself to all you can eat and is open until 1am. We used all 3 and found nothing we could fault. Entertainment and activities are ongoing throughout the day/night. We particularly enjoyed Strum Jam. The shows in the broadway lounge are excellent and the comedians on board were really good. Phil Doyle is on a par with Peter Kaye. The ports of call were outstanding and with only 1 day at sea each week we got to see plenty of beautiful sights. I would recommend a visit to them all. Kotor in Montenegro and Hvar in Croatia were my personal favourites. Breathtaking. If your looking to cruise on this ship or this itenary then go ahead. You will not be disappointed. We had a fabulous fortnight. Read Less

we chose the cruise on price so i cant really moan, but the ship needs scutteling its very old.its very 80s.the cabins were ok and kept very clean.the entertainment in the theater was brilliant (every night a differnt show) the deck entertainment was rubbish ive been on ships where they had back ground music on when your just lounging around, but not here, they did have a organ player/singer but he needs drowning, they do have a pool and spa lol, lol.lol only room for nine people on a ship holding 1200 people so that was a no go (they were only working for two days as the novo virus took hold then they shut shut them down (must say no matter where you went the staff had sanitizers every where and made you use them.another pain was if you just wanted a drink of water and you were on top deck you had to go to deck 4 to the machine in the lido (there was only one).they do try and sell you drinks packages on your first couple of days which gets on your nerves.even if you have the package your still have to pay a suppliment so we swerved that one.there isnt much to do on the ship nothing is open until the evening.the compass dining is where you should eat as they are very attentive and the waiters are brilliant. but im glad the week finished when it did as the novo virus was taking its toll as more and more were getting it,every body was affraid to touch anything on board but appart from that it was ok so ill give it 5 out of 10. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary- some places we had never visited and wanted to see. It was the Adriatic and we had very good hot weather. The scenery we saw was breathtaking (particularly Montenegro) and on the journey to Malta we saw dolphins. We were aware that the ship was old and tired so didn't have any unpleasant surprises. As previously mentioned the staff were brilliant and made us feel like royalty. The food was excellent, we ate breakfast in the Lido, some lunches also, and dinner and some lunches in the Compass Rose, which was a lovely restaurant, with four course meals and good waiter service. Choice of drinks in the AI package was more than adequate for us, the wine being really palatable. The entertainment was very professional and extremely enjoyable. We enjoyed the experience so much that we have already booked a cruise with Thomson for next year! Read Less

We chose this ship as we had been on the sister ship for 2 weeks last year and it was great and the difference is amazing even tho we had visited some of the ports before they where just as good as the first times katakolon has been really upgraded and worth another trip. Mostly the staff are superb but the new non Asian staff require some training on costumer service I doubt we will return to Thompson in the near future if this is their way forward Read Less
