Picked cruise for the places it was visiting and price i.e. Caribbean then on to Europe. Unfortunately the cruise was cut short in Antigua due to coronaviras. We spent 11 days at sea due to this but wasn't bored had pleanty to do new people to meet and have a laugh with them. Could have been more sun beds but they were monitored if left unattended. Daily walks round the decks 5 times was a mile. The crew from cabin staff to Captain were fantastic nothing to much trouble and updates given all the time. Brilliant can't thank them enough. Cabins great basic but all amenities, Good bathroom plenty of space. Good wardrobe space for clothes to hang and plenty of draw space. Food brilliant you could eat all day and night. Entertainment and Activities all excellent. Ports we were able to visit St Kitts, St Lucia, But Antigua unfortunately basically shut being a Sunday were great. I know it would have been Brilliant if the virus hadn't happened. There is always another time. Thank you Marcella. Read Less

We have previously cruised with Marella and enjoyed great service and on board experiences. Celebration was a disappointment. She is an old tired ship showing her age in several areas from cosmetic finish to constant ship vibration and poor air conditioning. Our cabin was aft on deck three and suffered from ineffective air con, constant mechanical noise from a major piece of machinery and vibration which varied from annoying to totally unacceptable, making it difficult to sleep. Food was very good, shows were outstanding and bar service was great particularly the very attentive Suresh. The itinerary was excellent and the facilities at all ports were very well managed. The Captain was the friendliest we have come across (in a large number of cruises). The all inclusive package was adequate although some brands listed as premium and therefore not included would not be on my premium list. We will cruise Marella agin but not on this ship. Read Less

Price of cruise sounded really good,we were not dissapointed, the cruise ship was a bit dated but was clean and all the staff were brilliant our cabin member Sharmain was a real pleasure to speak to really looked after us nothing was a problem to her always smiling and chatty, also would like to mention lunn who kept us supplied with our refreshments in most of the lounges and bars she also was very pleasant and always on hand, also yairis and Ronald deserve a mention for all their efforts and hard work ,these people never stopped, also all the entertainment crew were brilliant some fantastic shows every night with different shows,we visited different places every day seen some marvellous sights and lovely beaches, only problems and dislikes were getting online with internet was very expensive,£8 a day which would have worked out to much,we waited toget ashore for free wi fi,we had to miss out to one of the destinations due to a problem with the ship’s propeller we had to dock for 2days to get repaired so felt a bit let down by that,we were not offered anything in return. But apart from that we would definitely try another cruise in the future. Read Less

just returned after a 2 week in the caribbean, was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews but never experienced any of negative comments i read in them. the ship is old and did vibrate a little which rocked you to sleep.we were on deck 4 the cabin was nice with a small bathroom, the cabin steward Baban kept it spotless and clean both in the morning and evening leaving a towel made up into an animal from time to time.we only used the lido restaurant for meals which were ok though at times not as hot as you hoped and a bit repetitive .the entertainment we saw was good .horizons bar was really good the staff there went that extra mile. the only time we had a problem we reported it at reception and it was sorted very quickly. most of the islands we just got a taxi outside the port cheaper than onboard trips.captain Alex was fantastic with his comments when leaving each port, he was very approachable and took time to chat with passengers. the rest of the staff were very friendly smiling.and did chat when not busy. we had some days with a mix of sunshine and rain with only 1 day a total washout but you can't control the weather. I booked two weeks on the Marella Celebration last minute after our original plans fell through. I've cruised before, though never Marella and never on a ship as old or small as the Celebration and after reading some of the reviews here, and watching YouTube videos of noisy cabins, I was wondering if I'd made a dreadful mistake. Fortunately things were great and we had a wonderful time. Our cabin was easily the largest I've ever had on a cruise and was mercifully very quiet, despite being deck 1 midship, It also had ample storage space (four wardrobes and ten drawers!) so there was no need to live out of a suitcase. Having a kettle in the room was very handy too. The furnishings were a bit dated but there was nothing wrong with them. We did notice however it was pretty noisy towards the back of the ship (and presumably in the cabins too) so do keep this in mind when selecting. The ship itself was fine too. Having recently been refitted the lounges and bars feel very modern and stylish. As other reviews have noted the ship does noticeably vibrate, particularly towards the stern and when in port though I can't say this bothered us very much. The ship is very small so don't expect a huge American style experience but there are some perks to smaller vessels: in Antugua we were the only ship able to dock because of strong winds which were too much for larger, taller vessels! On ship services were fine, photography one of the best I've had on a cruise, good enough to make me break the habit of a lifetime and buy some of the photos taken, thanks to Carlton's excellent skills. Other staff were always very friendly and attentive. Dining was mixed overall but good if you play it smart: we found the food in the main dining room, especially the regional specials, was very nice most of the time and there was always a good variety. The only downside was the weird choice of playing pop music every night. Who wants to listen to angsty grunge while you're trying to eat your cheescake? Meanwhile the buffet was pretty rubbish: the selection of food is severely limited (hope you like melon and prunes coz good luck getting other fruit at breakfast!) and overall lower quality too. We only tried one speciality dining, Mistrals, which was absolutely fantastic. We were served by Kevin, who was wonderful, and had the three course al la carte menu which was so delicious we booked again for later in the week when they switched over! At £19 per head it's not bad value either. Drinks were relatively good too: we upgraded to premium all inclusive and I'm very glad we did because the normal coffee they served is frankly horrendous but the speciality coffee you get on PAI is delightful. Cocktails were very nice and there was a huge selection. Wines were adequate, not a beer drinker but there seemed to be a good enough choice. The main evening shows were rather naff but no worse than you find on other ships (a troupe of young performers singing snippets from musicals, two comedians you've never heard of, that sort of thing) so we stuck to the alternatives: namely the quizzes, sideshows and live music. Both house bands, Strumjam and the guitar trio were fantastic, and the quizzes/shows were great fun. During sea days we mainly relaxed and read but there were plenty of things going on. As mentioned, all staff were great. Alex the captain was very personable and accessible, making informative announcements and even greeting passengers as they disembarked. We did some ship excursions in ports where is was harder to independently organise. Where we did they seemed good value for money and were entertaining. Annoyingly one of our trips was overbooked but they were very helpful in finding us a replacement. Embarkation seemed a bit disorganised: our transfer drove round in circles for 30 minutes before letting us off, and we were then queuing for ages around the ship to get our cards. On every other ship I've sailed on this process was done in port and was a lot smoother. All in all, we had a great time and intend to sail on her again, though do be aware of the points I outlined. I was a little concerned booking this cruise having read some of the reviews but concerns absolutely unfounded. We had the most brilliant time. The cabins we had were perfectly fine with plenty of storage space, and a decent size bathroom. We only ate breakfast in the Lido buffet restaurant which was great with so many options and the advantage of being able to sit outside. Dinner we always used the Meridien restaurant which was fabulous. Brilliant service and amazing food. We were on the cruise for 2 weeks and never had the same choices. I do not understand why anyone would feel the need to pay for any of their three "fine dining" restaurants. We could not fault the entertainment - except perhaps the guitarist, Michael Brew, in Hemmingways - but perhaps that is a matter of taste. StrumJam were sensational, as were New Dimensions Trio and the entertainment team were just fabulous - the most amazing bunch of young and talented singers and dancers - they were brilliant. And Capt. Alex Downes was fantastic - he had the most amazing sense of humour. Would highly recommend. We did not do any of the Marella excursions so cannot comment on those but certainly the destinations visited and information available was perfect. Read Less

Have just returned from two weeks cruise in the Caribbean. TUI flights were excellent with free drinks, meals and in-flight entertainment. Transfer to ship was easy - straight from the plane. Didn't see our luggage until we got to our cabin. Cabins small but perfectly functional with plenty of hanging and drawer space, Kettle with tea/coffee etc. We were towards the bow of the ship and we never heard the engine. The cabins towards the stern were probably quite noisy as the engines were towards the rear. Staff friendly and helpful. I loved the fact that the captain was on the quayside every morning when passengers disembarked and was happy to speak to everyone. He was very approachable. We ate breakfast and lunch/tea in the Lido restaurant which is a buffet and every evening we ate in the Meridian Restaurant which is waiter service. The food could not be faulted. Excellent at every meal and beautifully presented. This is an all-inclusive cruise and you could upgrade but why anyone would want to I don't know. The all-inclusive package included cocktails, liqueurs, Irish coffees, soft drinks, beers, spirits etc. all day and drinks were served at all bars and restaurants. We never saw anyone drunk (which we had read before we went). The entertainment each evening in the Show Lounge was excellent. There are 10 young people, all very talented, who sing and/or dance. We didn't book any excursions from the ship. In every port we stopped in we were greated by plenty of local taxi and tour companies who were happy to offer the same tours as the ship but costing a lot less. Except for Guadeloupe, which uses the Euro, we were able to use US dollars in every port. And everywhere we went English was spoken. This was not an adult only cruise but the few children who were on the ship caused no problem at all. There were two nights when smart clothes were required for the captain's cocktail party - although obviously you didn't have to take part if you didn't want to. But for the rest of the evenings smart/casual was the order of the day. I would highly recommend this ship. Read Less

Fantastic cruise... yes it is an older ship, but it is small enough to make great friends and see them again...the food was fantastic...the service and friendliness of the crew out of this world and the entertainment crew led by Katy fantastic and very professional. Plenty of room for all of your clothes in the cabins we were on deck 6 cabin 202 facing the bow, large double bed. We have been on many different cruise lines and the value for money with Marella cruises cannot be beaten anywhere to date. This was an adult only cruise and would never recommend this cruise for children. Once you have paid your money you never have to pay for anything else unless you wish to upgrade, the cruise gives you 6 days at sea to relax crossing the Atlantic which we love rather than having to rush ashore every day. we hope to go again on the return journey in march hope to see our great friends that we met on board last trip again. This is the second time on the Celebration and only our second cruise. We chose a similar itinerary as last year as we thoroughly enjoy the Trans Atlantic Crossing. We flew to Malaga from Birmingham to join the boat and the flight and embarkation went smoothly. The boat had been in port for a week prior to our cruise so there were no passengers disembarking. This makes embarkation so much easier. The ship is one of the oldest of the Marella fleet and is small compared to the big P&O and Royal Caribbean ships. The ship shows no sign of age as they are constantly painting and updating in tired areas. We booked a balcony cabin on the Port side to get the sun during the crossing. The cabin was great very clean with a big double bed ,robes , Clarins toiletries , a TV , minibar and tea and coffee . The balcony had a sunbed and two chairs on it enough room to relax and chill . The cabin was cleaned daily to a high standard. There were two main restaurants a buffet and A La Carte. Never any queues and you can choose to sit alone or on mixed tables. The standard of the food was excellent. There are three specialty restaurants. All of these serve top quality food at a great price. The bars and entertainment areas are very good . The Horizons bar was our favourite at the front of the boat where you can monitor your progress across the ocean. The quality of drinks are high. We chose to pay the premium drinks package. This was good value for us as we enjoy certain brands and like a specialty coffee and good wine however the drinks in the normal package are all branded. Entertainment is good with an enthusiastic young show team who work there socks off nightly. During the cruise we had two guest comedians who were very good. I used Oceans Spa for a facial and massage. Pele my therapist was excellent the best massage I have ever had and it was very well priced. I had the top to toe pamper package. The only disappointment for me was the gym. It doesn’t open until 0800. It is very small with only three treadmills a bike and cross trainer. One of the treadmills was broke throughout the cruise and people were queueing to get on the equipment. Lastly the service and the staff are second to none. There is nothing they won’t do for you with a smile. Have already booked two further Marella cruises trying two of their newer boats next year but would definitely go back on the Celebration. This cruise was part of a stay & cruise on Marella Celebration departing from Dubrovnik. This was our second cruise on the Celebration this year, the first was a repositioning cruise from the Caribbean in April, on that Cruise the meals in the Meridian Restaurant were terrible the worst we have ever encountered on a Marella (Thomson) cruise, and the most complaints and returned food we have ever seen on a cruise. We were not looking forward to another weeks cruise with food which had been totally destroyed, but we should not have worried the standard of food and service in the Meridian Restaurant were back to normal, 100% better than in April. Our cruise was Adriatic Affair from Dubrovnik on 24 October 2019. The first port was Hvar Croatia (a tender port) it is a lovely old town with beautiful buildings and has relatively flat but uneven walking areas, also the town centre area is car free making it easy to explore. The second port was Ancona Italy, there it is an industrial area with a ship building/repair yard to the left of the cruise port area, this contrasts with the Greek and Roman buildings of the town which can be easily accessed from the cruise terminal on foot, there are many older buildings to visit and plenty of pavement cafes to rest your feet. The third port was Koper Slovenia, Koper a medieval town is set on a horseshoe shaped bay with lots of historical sights. One thing to try on your visit is their wine, especially the desert wines they are delicious. Until now the weather had been un-seasonally warm in the lower to mid 20's, but that was to change on our fourth port of Venice. Our approach to the cruise port in Venice was delayed until 12.30 due to a heavy mist, which resulted in all trips to be cancelled, and the walk from the ship through the terminal to gain access to the city was considerable and resulted in many cruisers staying onboard. I felt very sorry for the cruisers who had picked this cruise especially to have a clear view cruise through Venice up to the cruise port, spoilt by a mist haze, then being unable to take their booked trips. As by next year Venice is stopping cruise ships of any size from sailing up through Venice past St Mark's Square to the cruise port. Our fifth port was Rijeka Croatia with a colder temperature of 16-18C, Rijeka is a working port, but there is plenty to see in the traffic free streets of the Korzo district as you seek out a pavement café to do a bit of people watching. The last port was Split Croatia, Split is one of my favourite ports being easily reached by foot from the cruise terminal, it is also flat with very good walking areas, especially along the sea front where there are many cafes to sit and people watch. A must is to try some authentic Croatian cooked food, a starter of bean soup and the main course from under the Bell, it is usually a mixture of beef, chicken and potatoes cooked in a large round metal casserole dish covered by a metal dome, it is placed on glowing embers of a wood fire then the dome is also covered in embers and allowed to cook slowly until the meat is soft and tender, it then placed on the table to help your self. The Celebration though an older ship is kept very clean with hand sanitizers placed at the door ways to all eating areas and bars to assist in the prevention of norovirus. All the ships staff encountered were pleasant and eager to help make your cruise a memorable one for the best reasons. Two staff who stood above the rest, firstly was Wilbur our cabin steward deck 6 who kept our cabin spick and span despite our efforts to make it otherwise, Wilbur always met you with a smile and showed interest in how you were, and where you were going and what you had done the day before. The second was waiter Gemmar in Hemingways, he always remembered your drink and cabin No, every drink was quickly served with a smile, he also showed interest in your day and would make time to exchange pleasantries. The efforts of these two staff made all the difference to our cruise to make it a pleasurable memorable one, as you were not just a number but a person to whom they could help and assist. Read Less

We have returned from our cruise around the end and we honestly could not fault the marella celebration in any way. Will start by saying the food in the speciality restaurants is far superior to the food in the main buffet and dining restaurant and couldn’t recommend the experiences enough so would definitely encourage people to book. The ship was immaculate and the cabins were also very nice. The ship does not have the same glitz and glam as perhaps other ships however it has such a wonderful ambiance made by the people the work there. The entertainment was absolutely fantastic and my partner and I could not fault the effort that the cast made in and out of the theatre. The productions were out of this world and they were a west end worthy cast. Special mention to Dan and Beth for taking the time to make our cruise extra special. Also a big thank you to Jay our cabin steward for going the extra mile. Can’t wait for the next one. Read Less

We could not fault anything. Our room steward Fernand was great and mad us several towel sculptures which I loved.I know it's not for everyone but we are now looking at our next cruise. We visited Malta which was beautiful and we would go back to. Sicily was ok but only as we did a trip to taromina as Catania looked terrible, graffiti everywhere. We loved Argostoli in Kefalonia and would go back there. We had a tender to shore which was very good. We did a trip to Alberbello when docked in Brindisi which was beautiful. Kotor in Montenegro was absolutely stunning and not to be missed. Looking forward to exploring Croatia for our week now. Read Less

We have been on the Celebration a couple of times before so we new what to expect. The TUI flight was on time from Gatwick on the Dreamliner plane. The bonded luggage should be adopted at all airports as it is in Dubrovnic, where you check your luggage in as usual at the airport, and the next time you see it is outside you cabin door when you arrive on board, The same on return, your luggage is collected from outside your cabin on the last night and you next see it on the belt at the home airport. Last time on the Celebration we checked in on board and it went very smoothly, this time we checked in in a shed at the dockside and it was chaos, queue, queue, and more queues. Our cabin was 203, a de-luxe cabin on deck 6 right at the front of the ship looking foreward and was very quiet. We ate breakfast and lunch in the Lido, and dinner in the main dining room and found the food and service excellent. The waiters now serve the wine as well, and that kept flowing nicely. We were not pestered at all to upgrade to the premium drinks package as the standard package was adequate for us, nor were we pestered to have photos taken we just said 'no thanks' and were left alone. We did dine at the extra payable 'Kora La' restaurant one night and that also was excellent. We only went on one excursion and that was to the Corinth canal trip from Athens, which included a boat trip on the canal which was amazing to think the canal was dug by slaves. We went to all the shows in the show lounge which included an excellent comedian one night, and he returned the next evening for a late night 'adult' session. It's a shame that the Celebration will soon be leaving the fleet, although it has always had its 'wobble' its always been our ( and lots of other people) favourite. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a belated honeymoon and it was my husbands birthday on the 30th. Our cabin was just so noisy, vibrations, clanging and banging and something hydraulic kept going off at various times. I felt the ship was tired and it reminded me more of a posh ferry, no charm about it. There are not enough seats in the bars and every night, is pretty much the same as the night before regarding entertainment. I was hoping there might be some dance lessons but it is too small although we were offered a talk on liver drainage. Food was ok although if you are in the lido it was only warm and the meals in the Meridian were bland and boring. Nothing spicy because they want you to pay extra and eat in the Asian restaurant. We did eat at the hot stone and the steak was great, starters and deserts we're not so good. Coffee port is great which is just as well as free coffee is awful. The best meal was the afternoon tea, loved it! The excursions are well organised, but you do not get enough free time, even to stop for a drink when walking in the hot weather. I have to say all the staff are excellent, polite and friendly and ship was kept spotless and ran like clockwork. We weren't sorry to get off and we're pleased we did cruise and stay in Dubrovnik instead of 14 nights cruise. I have rated cabin average because of noise. It was quite spacious with plenty of storage in bathroom. Read Less

Our room was also beside the staff room (we think) so that may give you a clue as to where about a we were. as many times that we walked to or from our room and encountered various staff members every single one acknowledged us with a nod or hello, (again cannot express how good their social skills and manners were, even when they were finishing a long shift)!! this review site and couldn’t not leave a review, even though it’s 14 month later”! Myself (44) and my father (63) booked our first ever cruise at the last minute (3 days in advance) in july 2018. My father booked our twin room with porthole on the telephone directly with a tui rep. As i am just browsing online now i’m kind of thinking errrmm we were robbed by the rep. as we didn’t know any different at the time it was, what it was!! Anyway, we boarded a plane at newcastle to dubrovnik and after check-in at newcastle we didn’t see our suitcases again till we arrived at our room onboard, which was excellent! transfer from airport to port was smooth and we joined in with all of the queuing and having photos taken by the pro’s at the port. We were onboard within approx 20 minutes and just kept following the directions of crew and followed the crowd. Once onboard it was more queues but everything was very civilised and as we came through the dining room there was music playing which i personally appreciated as it had a calming effect. Whilst waiting to be given our room information there was a man hovering/offering drinks upgrades. He was the least pushy salesman ever, which had a positive affect as he actually made myself and others approach him to enquire what he was offering. neither myself or my father knew anything about such upgrades. i drink vodka and he drinks stout/beer, grey goose was my upgrade and “cold cans- guaranteed” of tetley's for dad. i’m never ever ill when i drink grey goose and anyone that knows about tetley's knows it’s not tolerated from a pump if it is poor quality, frothy, warm etc. So needless to say we upgraded, i can’t remember exactly how much it was but i will guesstimate £100 each for the whole week. as the cans were approx £4/£5 each of we were going to have to buy them the upgrade was a no brainer! The staff were outstanding in every single area of the ship, the food was decent in the help yourself buffet area, with different choices daily. the fact that we could sit down in the other restaurant if dressed correctly and be served by staff was a lovely touch as a non-payment extra. we did also eat in both of the payable restaurants and again it was worth it as it felt as though we were in a different eatery. All of the bar staff got used to us as we tended to sit in the same areas daily and in the same bars and seating areas on an evening. This meant sometimes we just had to nod or wave to get our drinks refreshed whilst in a noisy area or whilst watching the shows. I cannot compliment the staff enough for their memories and attention to detail in this area. The entertainment crowd can also not be commended enough. I saw how hard the showtime crew worked and practised during the day and then they put on 2 full shows on an evening. the other entertainment crowd entertained us during the day, playing bingo, daft quizzes and just being around and then they were up on stage in one room or another on an evening! again i cannot fault any of them. the man that was cleaning and looking after our corridor was a star turn, he was such a happy man always singing and dancing and an absolute joy to encounter! We did a couple of trips via the ships tour operators (without feeling robbed) which were fab as we went up onto the hills of montenegro which was outstanding and athens was just something else. we also got off the ship and wandered around at every other port that we docked at and have no complaints. We were on a “child free” cruise which suited us perfectly. As someone that normally has a decent sense of direction i was absolutely useless at finding my way around, so i continuously went the long way around to anywhere i went. this was highly amusing for the people we met who became friends and moreso if i did go to the bar to order drinks and the staff carried them back to the room for me as the staff had worked out which room i was in and would take me the more direct route. We had perfect weather which obviously no-one has any control over but it made a massive difference as the seas were calm as well as the sun shining. I have very little to be negative about but i have to be true to the people who may read this. So.... Again as it was so long ago i can’t remember which level we were on, but.... We must have been somewhere near the engine room as the fumes in the corridor were quite bad and we had to put towels across the bottom of the door. to be fair we aren’t the sort of people that complain if we can deal with it, so as we were putting the towel across the bottom of the door we didn’t once complain. We had 1 major complaint and that is tui were not showing the england world cup games on any tv’s. all we had was sports news report on 1 tv in the coffee room and we didn’t even have the radio as suggested we would have. we had been told they had apparently shown the royal wedding a few months previous and individuals were able to get games on personal phones, laptops etc yet we were being told the signal wasn’t available. at one port (corfu i think) loads of us got off and went scouring for pubs with the england game of the day on. we only saw the first half and had to run back to the ship before it departed. after a lot of hoo haa we did eventually get the england vs croatia game on, and as we pulled back into croatian waters the final whistle went and england were out of the 2018 world cup. Now i know that result is neither tui or marella’s fault, but it just felt like an unnecessary lot of stress towards the end of an absolutely excellent holiday and first cruise experience. As aforementioned i am already browsing and looking at the possibility of another cruise, this time to see the northern lights. Read Less

We wanted to do something special for our Silver wedding anniversary so we decided on the Adriatic Affair itinerary, where we celebrated our vows, followed by a hotel stay. The whole experience was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and hardworking and the ship was lovely. Patrick, our cabin steward, was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I had a light mishap with my dress, when we were getting ready for dinner at the captain’s table; however, some of the stewards were quickly on hand with a sewing kit, so a disaster was avoided. The food and drink were plentiful. We upgraded to premium all inclusive due to us preferring ‘zero’ pop, and my husband’s love of coffee. Our Celebration of Vows, in Venice, was perfect, and Elaine ( the social/welfare hostess) ensured that everything was perfect! It was lovely that she could share our special moment with us, along with the lovely Captain Nikos. We have got some lovely photographs that were taken by the onboard photographer. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and will definitely be back on the Celebration as soon as we can. Read Less

The full cruise was an adventure from start to finish. The on board team and crew were enthusiastic, friendly and most helpful when needed. There are so many crew I would like to mention, but some individuals deserve highlighting. Our cabin servicer PUTU was great, he was helpful and did his job to the highest standards, he is a credit to the ship and the team on it. The Bar teams were mind readers......they knew exactly what my wife and I drank without us even asking....Ervin and Wilson in the Horizons and Kumar, Sheldon, Kenneth and Sushil in the Hemmingway's Bar were always on hand even at daft O'clock in the morning. The food was very good and the shows were entertaining. The staff in the restaurants were great, they even sang Happy Birthday…..which was a memorable moment when the kitchen team came out front. The cabin had plenty of room in it with plenty of storage space for the belonging we took and the extras my wife always manages to accrue whilst we were away. The holiday was a special celebration for my wife, the extras didn't disappoint. The flowers the cake and the in cabin decorations were well received and appreciated….oh yes and the bubbly and strawberries went down a treat. we are looking already for next years cruise. Read Less

This cruise was chosen as a family celebration for a 60th birthday. Our party consisted of 8, and had 3 children. Firstly whilst some renovations and refurbishments have been done the ship is still very outdated, and the lay out and location of certain facilities does not lend itself to being very child or family friendly. The main lifts are in the middle of the ship, and there are additional ones at either end. However to get to the designated children’s swimming pool there is not a direct lift, and you then have to walk through a restaurant to access it. It is not a brilliant idea to have the kids pool in an area where adults are drinking alcohol, and the lack of toilets on the same level as the pool is also poorly thought out. You either have to walk back through the restaurant or climb external stairs to the deck above, whilst navigating a further adult only bar. The food in the self service restaurant was mediocre at best with a very limited choice. The food and service in the a la cartel restaurant we couldn’t fault. Excursions were very expensive. Bottled water was chargeable, despite every other cruise company docking in the same ports as us offering water for free. The cabin was fairly spacious and the majority of the staff were very helpful. The evening entertainment was amateur but it was clear that the cast were trying their best. There were several good points about our holiday but unfortunately the small things soon mount up and tipped the balance for us. Read Less

Previously sailed on Spirit so layout of ship identical. Seemed like the ship was shaking herself to bits. Vibration from engines was constant and on every deck and location of the ship. Last night in port I was unable to sleep because of the vibrations. Celebration needs to be retired. Staff are all excellent and food of a high standard particularly the Meridian restaurant. Didn't try the speciality restaurants. Lido restaurant always had a good selection of dishes, particularly liked the afternoon tea spread. Excursions were well organised but maybe allow for more free time to explore, find a cafe or W.C. Then hunt for souvenirs. Cabins were cleaned and refreshed regularly and any issues were addressed immediately. For us there were not enough dancing opportunities. Bands good but playing pop classics only suitable for “dad dancing” or as background music. No chance to do any ballroom or Latin dancing. Read Less

Chose this cruise as we were constricted by time and wanted to visit Athens. We had been with Marella before and researched the ship before booking so knew what to expect. Luggage was dropped off at Gatwick and didn’t see it again until it was delivered to the cabin (the reverse happened on departure). Embarkation was quick but as there were only 1200 passengers there was no Premium boarding. Our cabin was roomy and clean with better decor than Discovery which was very bland. Plenty of storage and hangers. The balcony was adequate with 2 chairs and a side table, some balconies were larger with sun beds but also had less privacy. Navigating around the ship could be a bit confusing as not all lifts went to deck 9, some stairways gave no indication of what deck you were on and some corridors were dead ends. There were more than sufficient sun beds on the decks for the number of guests. Food was excellent although, being a small ship, there was not a massive choice in the buffet. Plenty of seating in the restaurants. We didn’t do any shore excursions but most destinations were interesting, those that weren’t we went to the beach. We knew beforehand about the vibration but didn’t find it a real problem, it was felt more in some places than others. A few children onboard but not a lot of activities, guests mainly middle aged to elderly. Read Less

Having cruised with Marella (Thomson) since 2011 we were looking forward to another excellent cruise. We did the same repositioning cruise last year, the only problem then was a squeaking from a ship structure which had broken loose and squeaked to the movement of the ship, we were in the same cabin this year and it had been fixed. The cabin staff were excellent and helpful as usual, in fact all staff were always smiling and eager to ensure you had an excellent cruise. Our first let down was the standard of food in the Meridian Restaurant for evening meal it was the worst we have ever encountered on a Marella (Thomson) cruise, our first two weeks were an excellent example on how to destroy food examples: rib eye steak tough and tasteless, chicken scallops dried out like crisp bread, veal cutlets you could have soled your work boots with, (totally un-edible could not even be cut with a knife). I had never seen so much food being left on plates, complaints regarding the standard of food was common place all round the restaurant. We were informed, but did not witness that there was an altercation between cruisers and kitchen staff, and apparently eight people were put of the ship in Madeira, if that was the case none was the chef as the food did not improve. Also it normally took two hours to serve three courses, it was not the fault of the staff, but the lack of staff, instead of two waiters and a runner there was only two waiters who were run off their feet. On the third week we decided to try the Lido for evening meal, it was basically the same menu but help yourself, we could not believe we were on the same ship, the standard of food was excellent and cooked to perfection, the only problem was finding a seat as so many cruisers had given up on the Meridian Restaurant for the Lido, The only night the Meridian Restaurant was OK was Captains Night, maybe it was we were only a few tables from the Captain. The second let down was disembarkation it was a total shambles, the first batch of passengers for embarkation was 08.00 the second batch was scheduled for 08.15. The first batch of passengers were still queuing in the stairways at 08.15, add the second batch and we had pandemonium, the lifts were unusable due to total passenger impasse on disembarkation deck, we were stuck on the stairwell for over an hour, it was so bad the elderly and infirm had to sit on the stairs. Unfortunately we have booked a stay and cruise on Marella Celebration for October 2019, will review again when we return, hopefully things will be back to the normally good standard of service we have received from Marella (Thomson). We needed to go to Barbados and this cruise came up - 7 day cruise - 7 day hotel stay - at a good price. Tui's organisation was fantastic. From check in at Gatwick to disembarking - all superbly organised. We had an inside cabin which was in fact bigger than the one we had on the QM2! Yes there is a bit of a rumble when the engines are going but it actually rocked us to sleep! Deck 2 midships was a good location as not right over the engines. Captain was awesome - so approachable and freely gave his knowledge of the ship and our destinations. Staff very positive. Food average. Seemed to be a budget per course?? Can anyone tell me why ships run out of prunes?? They come in tins for god sake!! Sorry but found the entertainment a bit basic but on a 7 day cruise not really an issue. Read Less
