I had never had a cruise before and thought a river cruise the best introduction to travelling on a boat. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, boat fairly small but lovely, cabin compact but comfortable, large windows with French balcony, bedding luxurious and toiletries supplied. Bed turned down each evening, next days agenda left along with small gift, soap, shower gel, recipes etc .. Chocolates and water in room, no coffee or tea making facilities in room but available from lounge any time. Crew very pleasant and helpful. Food excellent and very varied, drinks plentiful including cocktails and Prosecco . Waiters attentive and polite, restaurant served buffet style breakfast and lunch with waiter service for evening dinner. Entertainment fairly laid back, singer most evenings, brass band one evening also a couple of lectures that were very interesting. No children on board for this trip and I would guess that most of the passengers were in the 55 to 80 age range. Majority of the passengers were Australian or from USA plus quite a few British. Scenery along the Danube was breathtakingly beautiful, misty some mornings which added to the beauty of both Austria and Germany. Would I take a river cruise again? Most certainly, my husband and I loved ever minute and highly recommend Uniworld. Read Less

We landed in Cologne on Sunday afternoon and were met by a UniWorld representative. There were about 20 of us (mostly senior citizens). We were told to follow her carrying/pushing our own luggage and carry-ones. The walk turned out to be from one end of the terminal to the next, and then outside a few blocks to a waiting bus! If I ever take another uniworld cruise, I will arrange to take a cab (which were lined up right outside the area where we met the uniworld rep) to the ship. We chose this cruise because of the Jewish Heritage component. We got on the ship in Cologne on Sunday afternoon, and hoped to visit the Ludwig Museum on Monday, but all museums are closed on Mondays. The rest of the cruise was good, for the most part. We would have liked more time to explore on our own, but we were on a tight schedule. The food was excellent, and the wait staff were very professional and friendly. One of the nicest touches was the Friday night Shabbat candle lighting ceremony held outside on the sun deck. After the cruise, they took us to a nice hotel for our post cruise days. The last day they took us into Munich to see a synagogue and Jewish Museum - but it was Monday, and they were CLOSED! So the guide told us about them while we stood outside in the rain! The activites on Sunday and Monday could have been switched. The state rooms were very small, but clean. Read Less

We choose this cruise specifically because of the excursion to castle Neuschwanstein, the Bavarian castle which Disney modeled Cinderella's castle. The castle was great and beautiful in every way. I was disappointed that we felt so rushed the whole day both getting there and the amount of time spent there. I would have liked to spend more time at the castle and then the village below. I came so far just to see this as the highlight of our trip, only to be rushed through. I don't understand why they couldn't have extended the time, its not like we had to be home at a certain time. It was a 2 hour bus ride there and back. After the tour we had to make a choice to eat lunch at one of the very quaint restaurants or go shopping. I chose the shopping and not eat. Also disappointing was we were supposed to visit King Ludwig's museum, only to find out all museums are closed on Mondays, the day we were there. Couldn't they have planned that better? Especially knowing its listed in the catalog as a stop we were to make. My husband and I have traveled before on river cruises. This cabin was by far the smallest, but we didn't really have a choice since this was the size of the ship's cabins. I felt like I was sleeping in a closet. The ship only has french balconies, no outside balconies, another feature I would normally prefer. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The service was excellent and the food was also excellent and gave you a variety of selections, as well as wines and beers, all included. The cruise director was rather "flat", not much personality and I felt other than his talks in the lounge, didn't inform us on a day to day basis of the schedule. Yes, we received a program each night in the room, but there were still always unanswered questions which guests were always asking each other for the answers. Although the tours were interesting and informative, I felt the tour guides did a much better job on previous ships we have been on. We did really enjoy the two different occasions for just cruising and relaxing on board. They could have done a better job with entertainment, which was really non existent, except for a keyboard player each night. We would have really enjoyed some local authentic entertainment in some of the ports, or bring us to restaurants with entertainment. That was another disappointment for us. Again, there was good and bad, but all in all it was a memorable trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise, on this cruise line because of the reputation of Uniworld and we liked the cities visited. This cruise was fabulous from the standpoint of the room (we had a suite), the delicious food and all of the staff was absolutely outstanding. In fact, the service was a highlight of the cruise. While we knew we would be getting twice the space, we didn't realize our suite came with a butler. Our Butler Silviu Ciatau ensured our on ship experience was extraordinary. He had special surprises in our room in the evenings, such as Cuban cigars my husband likes and a French wine that we like. Silviu ensured our wishes were met at the highest level. We never thought we wanted or needed a butler, but Silviu really made our cruise experience incredibly special. If you are wondering if the cost of the suite is worth the price, our answer is absolutely, yes! The food was wonderful and plentiful. The servers were on par with a 5 star restaurant. At dinner they would bring the food in a wonderfully choreographed flourish. There was one small disappointment for us and that was while the people on the ship were all absolutely lovely, interesting and fun, we did find that we were on average10-20 years younger than most of the other guests (we are in our early to mid 50's). The only reason this was a relevant concern is that we found the walking pace of the tours to be painfully slow, which made us unable to see as much as we would have liked. They do break the tours into easy and regular pace, however, there were some people who should have gone to the easy pace group, that felt capable of the regular pace and then slowed the entire regular paced group. If someone needs a cane or walking stick to walk, they need to be thoughtful enough to select the easy walking group and if they don't self-direct, the staff needs to re-direct them. If they had provided a history sheet the night before, along with a suggested self-guided tour route, that would have been ideal for us at most stops as guests are able to tour cities on their own. Most of our tour guides were excellent, like Kamilla in Prague, while a few others seemed a little less experienced as tour guides (although all were very knowledgable about history). The Go-Active bike rides we took advantage of were absolutely wonderful. We heard the River Ambassador is about to be rebranded and be marketed to a millennial market. I would suggest to Uniworld that they consider catering to 35-55 first because in our experience, and it could have just been a matter of the demographic of our particular cruise, they will be skipping the next logical demographic. We did the pre-cruise Prague extension. The hotel they had for us, the Hotel Boscolo, was absolutely lovely with terrific service. We would certainly consider another Uniworld cruise, but not for 10 years or so (due to the age factor). Read Less

We are past cruisers on Uniworld. The service was excellent, the food was very good and the tours were good with local guides. All beverages were included as well as gratuities and tours. The ship was nice but the cabins are cramped-we had a French balcony cabin. There were no children aboard and we would not recommend bringing them for there are no activities for them aboard. Embarkation was good, we arrived by plane the day of, but we were too early to get into our cabin . Disembarkation for us was good, since we had a late flight, we were the last ones off the ship. We waited in the lounge until our transportation arrived. They had food and drinks out to serve ourselves. Uniworld had picked us up at the airport and returned us for our flight home. We will sail with Uniworld again. Great cruise to see the tulips. Read Less

Excursions were very good, Great tour guides made it all a lot of fun The staff met us at the bus after an excursion and it had just started raining, they had umbrellas for us with a hot hand towel as we entered the ship and some cold juice. One morning I got up early and was reading in the lounge and without requesting it a Staff member brought me over some hot coffee and a croissant just out of the oven with butter and strawberry jam. I felt like a King not to mention it was delicious! we were celebrating my Brother and Sister In law's anniversary, they made a special cake had the whole dining room sing for them and they were surprised to find rose petals in a heart shape on their bed as well as a bottle of sparkling wine and some flowers.Nice to be kid free Very relaxing way to travel Everything is taken care of for you. I very much enjoyed learning all about the Netherlands and Belgium. Fascinating history and a great mix of cities and small villages to explore. I especially liked the local bakery tour, beer, and chocolate tastings. Although Keukenhoff Gardens is crowded, it is definitely worth seeing. The shopping in Maastricht was great. Onboard entertainment by singing sailors and a small classical ensemble was very enjoyable. A talk given onboard about the history of the European Union was very interesting and highly informative. Wonderful service at all times from very professional and courteous staff members. The food was excellent at all meals. I loved our daily talks given by Anthony with "local color" anecdotes. Our wine steward was very knowledgeable and made excellent selections with our meals. Silviu, our butler, was extremely helpful throughout the trip. We very much enjoyed the cruise and will certainly take another trip with Uniworld in the future. Read Less

This was our third Uniworld River Cruise. We were impressed with the quality of service, friendliness of the crew and ports of call right from our first Uniworld experience. We were in one of their four suites, which was magnificent, and already booked their Christmas and New Year's cruise for December 2018 on the Maria Teresa and are looking forward to that. We had our own butler who was extremely attentive to our every need. Our room steward had our room in wonderful shape for the whole cruise. Being able to meet and talk with our captain made this cruise feel very personal. He was at the door to welcome each one of us back on board after every excursion. We love visiting small villages and interacting with local people rather than visiting tourist traps. All inclusive pricing can't be beat. The food at every meal was excellent, prepared from local meats, fish and produce. Read Less

This cruise was recommended by my travel agent and I can never thank her enough. The ship (River Ambassador) while not the newest in the Uniworld fleet was extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated and most importantly, the crew was solid gold studded with diamonds. I cannot praise adequately the over the top service accorded to not only myself but the rest of the passengers. My cabin although smallish was very comfortable, but what more did I need than a place to sleep and take a shower? Needless to say, the food served was top notch, and the little extras were greatly appreciated. Our principal food server was Julian, if this man could bottle his charm he would make a fortune. As for the excursions, they were outstanding, I learned a great deal about Belgium and The Netherlands from the local guides. Uniworld outdid itself securing the services of these friendly and knowledgeable folk. This was not my first river cruise. I have traveled with other companies, but Uniworld has won me over, I seriously doubt that I will ever use any other company. Bravo Uniworld! Read Less

Compared to Viking this was much better value for the $$. Travel agent had traveled on this line before & rated it as a 5 star experience. The staff and food was excellent. Enjoyed the setting, being able to walk on top deck, especially after a nice meal. Going through the canals was an added bonus. The lounge was well appointed and conducive to mingling with other passengers. Great land activities. Jessi was amazing; always seemed to know everything that was going on and making sure we were taken care of. The local guides were knowledgeable and showed appropriate sense of humor. The lounge, dining room and front desk staff were always available, always helpful and remembering our names after only a couple of days. On our anniversary we returned to our room to find rose pedals on our bed and a iced bucket with champagne. Unexpected and very much appreciated. Overall, look forward to our next river cruise with Uniworld and would recommend to anyone! Read Less

The good thing about the ship was that it can sail in low and high water where a larger ship may not be able to. Food was fabulous! Service was excellent! Entertainment and activities were excellent. The piano player was really good! The shore excursions were good and had very knowledgeable tour guides. We had massages and that was a great experience too. The person in charge of all activities was very helpful and made sure we had all the information we needed to choose the best option for us. They also took care of our food allergy needs. We chose a cruise from Prague to Basel as we had never explored Eastern Europe. The trip started in Prague, but we didn't board the boat until Nuremburg. Each day we visited one or two different sites. All the guides spoke excellent English, some were oriented towards history and art, others toward more touristy things like shopping, but all were engaging. There were about 70 on our boat, and the group usually split into three parts, one a slow group for folks with issues about walking. The service on the River Ambassador was simply impeccable. And the food? To die for. I actually lost weight due to all the walking, but I could have gained five pounds. This trip exceeded our expectations and was a real bargain when measuring cost against value. Other than a few things we bought on board (stamps and laundry) we did not have to spend a nickel beyond the ticket price - it really is all included. Read Less

This was our second Uniworld cruise, having done Basel to Amsterdam two years ago. The Ambassador is among their smaller ships but our suite was outstanding. There was a nice sized witting area with plenty of storage and closet space. The bath was large, double sinks and a big walk in shower and was well appointed. These suites look like what you would expect to fine in a five star hotel. The other staterooms on this ship were pretty small (10x12) so I strongly recommend you go online to look at the dimensions of the rooms on any of their ships... they can vary greatly. The Ambassador had the best staff I've run across. The tour Director, Ramona appeared to work 24 hours a day to please passengers. She even arranged for some private tours for us along the way, for an additional charge which was very reasonable. Our butler, Zelko treated us like royalty as did the bar staff and wait staff, particularly Zlotko, Sam, De Jan and others. The food was wonderful and the chef was always offering to make us something else if he thought we didn't like what was on the menu. But the menu choices were always varied, well prepared and beautifully presented. This was honestly the most trouble free vacation we've ever been on. The tours were varied and well planned, and all inclusive truly meant All Inclusive! Our third Uniworld cruise is being planned as I write this. Ships from other lines just don't compare. Read Less

We cruised with Uniworld in 2014 from Passau Germany to Budapest, Hungary. At the end of that cruise we both had the same conclusion, it was the very best vacation we have ever had. This year we returned to Uniworld once again and cruised from Vienna to Prague. We even booked the pre Vienna option plus and extra day to enjoy Vienna so much more. The representatives of Uniworld that meet you at the hotel are also the expert tour guides that know the great history of the excursions you are taken on while visiting Vienna on the per cruise portion. I would heartily recommend the pre or post cruise options in conjunction with your cruise. The hotel accommodations are superior to say the least. Once on board the ship one will be wined and dined, pampered, catered to in a way you cannot imagine. My husband remarked after getting on the boat, "I do not have to do anything." Meaning he could just stay on the boat if he chose to and read books, watch out the window or view from the top deck all the great scenery one passes on the Danube, the river traffic, the many towns, villages, and cities one encounters on the cruise. Meals are not to be missed, a fine buffet at breakfast and at lunch has selections to please, dinner is always a four course feast. The attentiveness of the staff in the dining room is superb. After dinner a trip to the nicely appointed lounge for beverages, entertainment is a great way to end a day of activities. We highly recommend Uniworld for European river cruises. The two boats we cruised on River Ambassador, and River Beatrice were smaller than other boats, but were a mighty pleasure to sail on, because of the fine crews on these boats. When we boarded the boat in Vienna, one of the persons at the reception desk recognized by husband by name as well as one of the waiters in the dining room as both had been on River Beatrice 2 years ago when last we cruised. Our room on the ship was well appointed, cozy, clean and quite. The meals in the restaurant were all outstanding. We enjoyed the fact that there were only 120 passangers making life on board the ship very easy and fun. It seemed much easier to make new friends on this small ship versus a large ocean liner. we enjoyed docking in the middle of towns and cities along the Danube as we had very short walks to central shopping and historic sites. We enjoyed a wide variety of excursions conducted by enthusiastic local guides. The crew was always friendly and focused on making the cruise as special as possible. Our cruise director was friendly, efficient, and humorous. She has enough energy for three people. The meals were varied and uniformly excellent. The wine selections were quite good and the portion sizes were well chosen. The port excursions were diverse enough so that one never felt bored. We toured castles, shops, vineyards, breweries, fortified churches, cathedrals, and museums. Though they came from many different countries ranging from Serbia, to Portugal, to Holland the crew all spoke excellent English and were attentive to our every request. I would highly recommend this cruise line to anyone who is interested in this type of vacation. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the all inclusive setup and the variety of excursions. It was the Danube cruise from Vienna to Prague. The whole cruise was truly first class. I was amazed at how good the food was. We ended up not eating off of the ship much because the offering on board were much better. The fact that Uniworld has so many offerings for excursions and many of them are exclusive to Uniworld made for a great experience. When you went on an excursion there were no other busloads of tourists to compete with. My favorite was the concert in Vienna the first day. What a memorable experience. we shared Champaign with the musicians before the concert and a traditional layout of sausages, pretzels and beer waiting for us upon the return to the boat. Little extras that show up every day really put everything over the top. The tour of the BMW plant was spectacular. My wife especially enjoyed the trip to the Bavarian forest with a village tour in horse drawn wagons and a tour of the glass factory. The owner of the glass factory was our host. They also added a culinary tour which was new. A visit to a village butcher shop and a visit to a brewery. With samples of course. The last day they gave us a group photo of the crew and a pack of recipe cards from the chefs. First class all the way. Read Less

First river cruise and we loved it. General age of cruisers were older than us - probably more in their 70's. Not everyone mixed but most people were friendly. Lots of Americans on our cruise. As far as I could tell everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. We had a bit of trouble with flooding on the river and at times we were rushing to get under low bridges. Didn't really matter to us - we don't know what we missed anyway. Not heaps of time in the towns although some of them were quite small towns. Bikes are on the ship and in Regensburg they had a local biking company that supplied bigger bikes who took us 20 kms through farms, around the town etc. It was fabulous and gorgeous scenery. Our itinerary was changed so didn't get to do as much riding as we hoped. Food was all amazing - could not really fault any meal we had. The wait staff were also excellent and eager to please. Was very surprised that the all inclusive drinks just kept coming. Alcohol at any time of the day and as much or as little as you wanted. We had a French balcony room and yes they are small. However you're never in the room so it didn't bother us. It is cleaned twice per day and fresh towels supplied. River Ambassador is old but has been refurbished and we thought it was lovely. Only thing we didn't like were the locks - quite a lot of them between Vienna and Nuremburg and it was noisy at night banging and scraping at times as we went through the locks and disturbed our sleep. We felt like we were treated like royalty - thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and hope to do another one soon!! Read Less

The other crew members were exremely friendly and helpful--just didn't think Tabea was as good as the person we had on our other cruise. The excursions weren't as interesting as those on the Castles Along the Rhine. However, the food was excellent, and the servers were outstanding. Have cruised previously with Uniworld in 2012 on the River Princess from Trier Germany to Prague...an excellent choice. The River Ambassador is a beautiful ship also, but the cabins are a little bit smaller, although the bathrooms are a little bit larger. The staff of the Ambassador is fantastic, from the front desk personnel to the dining room waitstaff to the staff in the lounge. They are very friendly and really made for a very enjoyable trip. On our cruise the nightlife in the lounge after dinner was very lively. The piano player, Eon, was excellent and played to the crowd, whatever they wanted. Our group of 12 cruisers was partial to "Sweet Caroline" which Eon couldn't play that first night. He learned overnight and played it for us every night thereafter. The open bar concept was superb. The staff learned quickly what each person preferred and brought refills at the appropriate time...no signing, no charge. And it included all the liquor store you could think of, with only a very few "top shelf" brands requiring a premium charge. The itinerary on this cruise was excellent and kept us busy, again no charge. BMW factory tour is a must in Regensberg, as is the Courtroom 600 tour (excellent guide). Vienna was the highlight of the trip...make sure you take in the Strauss/Mozart concert, a private concert put on at a beautiful theater just for our passengers (37 in total). A great time was had by all 12 in our group! Read Less

We had previously been on a Uniworld cruise on the Yangtze River in China, but we have not been on any of the other cruise lines, so can't really compare to others. The service on this cruise was outstanding. The staff and crew exceeded expectations. We loved the fact that it was truly "all inclusive"; Most excursions and tips were covered. As a perk for being a repeat customer with Uniworld, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary laundry service (one bag for each of us). The food was definitely gourmet with many options for those on special diets. I can't speak highly enough about the wait staff. They were the most accommodating people I have ever experienced. Having enjoyed our previous Uniworld Cruise in Venice, I wanted to use Uniworld for a trip to revisit, after many years, Nuremburg, Heidelberg, Wurzburg and German foods, beer and wines. However, we began our "cruise" with the two night extension stay in Prague at the Boscolo Hotel. A first class hotel and opportunity to experience Prague, local cuisine and fresh Pilsner, wonderful! The cruise sight seeing options available were excellent. Our visit to tiny walled Aschfeld provided a real sense of German heritage and culture in a small village. Residents provided homemade Kuchen (cake) and beverages. The wine tasting tour through the vineyard in Nierstein was outstanding providing, generous samplings of local wines while viewing vistas of steep Rhein River Valley vineyard slopes riding in tractor pulled wagons. More generous brot (bread) and wurst snacks. There were ample opportunities to observe and photograph many picturesque half-timbered houses in Rothenburg, Miltenburg and Strasburg. If you enjoy marble sculpture and gilded decor, you will be enthralled by the tour of the Wurzburg Residence. Cruising along the Main and Rhein Rivers was smooth even though the route involves traversing many locks. The food and service on board were excellent. Our staff was very kind and attentive paying particular interest to individual passengers' particular food and beverage preferences. If Mila is the bartender be sure to try a "Hugo." We appreciate the comfort of being able to turn over all of the logistics and planning to Uniworld. We also appreciate that top shelf beverages and all gratuities are included. Read Less
