Sorry to be negative as I don't read negative reviews. There are so many areas Princess has fallen behind. There older ships are tired and should have been brought in for refurnishing earlier and not gotten to this point. . We;re Elite and mostly sail with Princess, but why would Princess ruin one of their great perks. This is the Elite lounge. They raised the price of drinks and reduced the selection. Our party had to send our drinks back and reorder another drink because of how bad they tasted. This was primary because of the limited selection. Next huge disappointment was Movies Under the Stars. We always look forward to watching a movie when we sail into warm nights, however not one movie was a new release. Some of the movies ,Eddie the Eagle,Grease,Scrooge, Spiderman Homecoming, Jurassic Park the Lost World. If you missed out on some sleep,go to one of these movies to catch up. In the comment section with Princess I always write in---Why not take the Basketball court and really improve it into a Pickle ball court. Paint lines, put up a decent net, protect it more from the wind. Basketball shootout is a poorly attended event. Passengers will play Pickle ball all day. Read Less

Princess and the LA Port have embarkation down..they know how to move and process the wide variety of people traveling along with their baggage, different languages, disabilities and personalities!!! For those doing B 2 B cruises, they know how to process thru customs with a quick return back to the ship. Disembarkation went just as smoothly! Each day they were informative of the 'happenings' on board. Their PrincessbytheSea onboard communication could use a little more work...but at least they have one for their guests to be in touch with each other when out and about on the ship. I felt they could also use a little more variety in activities in addition to what they already have. It was difficult at times to get seats for the shows, or in the bars. We did not do outside Princess excursions, although we did get off the ship in all the ports. We thought the food was just ok and could use a little more zip in the seasonings, but for the most part presentation was nice...especially with the desserts. The rolls and butter were outstanding!!!! We didn't use the buffet, but did eat in the Crown Grill and 5 of the 6 courses were great! The food in the International cafe and Horizon Court were good too! The Ruby Princess was clean and well kept, the crew friendly. The service was very good, although somewhat slow at times due to the amount of people being served in the bars and dining rooms. I must say, that it was very pleasant to not have the pressure to buy, buy, buy!! While the crew was there 'at the ready', they didn't push as some cruise lines do. Over all, it was a very nice cruise, with good friends!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise to sample Princess Cruise Line before sailing on a longer Northern Europe cruise next year. Overall, we had a great time. The service was good, the staff was professional and responsive...we had no issues. Our average wait time for anytime dining was 15 minutes. I would have preferred a shorter (or no) wait time for anytime dining, but it was manageable. I would also like to have more tables for two. Catalina Island and Ensenada were "okay" ports of call. I was disappointed in the City Tour with Mariachi show. We had walked around the downtown area earlier in the day -- the "City Tour" covered the downtown area that we had already visited on our own. Princess may want to provide more clarification that the tour is only downtown and walking distance from the ship. We fully expected to see the outskirts of Ensenada...and that was not the case. Our balcony cabin on the Caribe deck was sufficient. It was smaller than many of the cabins we have reserved on other lines. The balcony was a pleasant surprise in that it was a fairly large space with both sunny and shaded areas. The onboard entertainment kept us as busy as we wanted to be. We enjoyed ourselves. The show in the theater was entertaining; however, I was extremely disappointed in the number of seats being held for "someone on their way." We eventually sat in different rows to watch the show. Even as the curtains were rising, those seats remained empty. I'm not sure how much Princess can do to stop that practice, people will be people and the ones abusing the seat holding policy will probably continue to do so. We will gladly sail Princess again. Overall, it was a fantastic sailing with good food, company and service. Read Less

I choose this cruise because I did not have to fly anywhere to get on this ship. I had never cruised on Princess before and wanted to try them out. I went on the Ruby Princess, had a balcony room on the Baja deck. The room was really nice and large, with a large bathroom and large closet area, with lots of storage space. The outdoor balcony area was also spacious for 2 people. What I did notice about the room, was that it was not soundproof, and even had a vent in the front door. This was different from other ships on other carriers, which had soundproof rooms. The reason I will probably not go on another cruise with Princess, is the food. I decided this before I had an issue with one of the staff in the gift shops on board. I will address that first. I was totally ignored by a staff member of the Effy store. I will not speculate about the reasons why, and I did lodge a complaint with Princess. Now, as to the food, first of all, I did pay for a specialty restaurant, called "Share" by Curtis Stone, and that 6 course meal was excellent!. However, the free food that came with the cruise, the buffet, and restaurants, were not up to par, except for the fish dinner and baked Alaska served on the last night. The breakfast buffet was sparse and basic. It had normal American food and not much else. The buffet also was very small, considering the number of guests on the ship. I was used to much larger selections of food on other cruise lines. Also, the meats and fish were all over salted. Additionally, it took an act of Congress to get a straw, and the free beverages, like iced tea, and even cold water, were hard to find. If a steward went to get it, it would take a while to get a beverage. I never had that issue on any other ship. The dinner menu in the restaurants was not memorable. There was a man at my table who ordered a steak and he could not eat it because it was inedible. Also, after at least 30 minutes of no service, a waiter asked the man if he was unhappy with the food, and he was told twice, that the steak was bad. Nothing happened until much later when a supervisor came over. The service was neither prompt nor attentive. The cabin service was average, no towel animals in the room, and the service carts were left in the hallways all day (see photo). All in all, I expect more from a cruise, and this being around my 7th cruise, I know I can have a better experience for my money. But, oh, the rooms are so nice. Read Less

Spending the week of Thanksgiving with the family. Who could want more? This was 7 days of the smoothest water we have ever experienced! Add wonderful warm temperatures and it is pure luxury. What not to like? Attending any of the "entertainment" events puts your life in danger. Princess allows the venues to become over packed with passengers! People are sitting in chairs, on the arms of chairs, on the stairs, leaning on walls, blocking doors, and if you don't get there an hour early you are out of luck. Those in wheelchairs and walkers were definitely hazards and would have been seriously injured if there was an emergency. There might have been some new wait staff members on this trip. The service in the MDR was not up to par for breakfast and lunch. Little things like not serving ladies first, not offering fresh pepper, forgetting ordered items, etc. They will learn. Highlight of the trip for us: Turtle Tours Mazatlan. This private excursion gave us the opportunity to learn everything you ever want to know about the life of sea turtles, have an excellent Mexican lunch, and then you get to release you own turtle into the sea. It was an exciting experience! For us, sitting on the balcony having room service club sandwiches and a beer on a sunny afternoon in Mexico is a great life! Read Less

Thanksgiving itinerary and interest in cruising with Princess was reason for this experience. Chocolate (and I am not a chocolate fan) was amazing and consistently great. Food was average in dining room and buffet. Breakfast in dining room was excellent as were eggs benedict. Lunch in dining room was disappointing....had Cobb salad, avocado was swirled with black (old) would have been best to leave it out..and blue cheese was missing from salad. Dessert were okay, not great, except all chocolate items were terrific. Pizza and soft serve ice cream were available 11am to 11pm. 24/7 International Café was a treat and very nice staff for all of the meals/snacks. I think it is tacky to up sale shakes $2.50 and $1.50 for three scoops of gelato and all specialty coffees were an upcharge even at dinner. The non-Ruby Princess singers/performances were nice...refreshing to have a comedian that was family-friendly. The Princess performer performances were just "weird." I felt for the performers because they are doing what was choreographed for them, but just too weird and odd and should be redefined immediately. Food service was average as was stateroom attendant was average. Not much sincerity in excitement to be at work. Especially in this cruise environment, I thought they could fake a little more excitement. There is an "adults" only area, but costs $20 for half day (4 hours) or $40 for whole day...come on! To have access to the "pay" thermal suites was $150 one person or $199 for couple for entire cruise. There is a free sauna and steam room in each locker room...but the sauna was literally at 130' F (when it should be around 155+). It was like being in Las Vegas in summer...super low heat and many users wondered if it was on. The steam room was super hot and only allowed about 5 minutes of use at a time. Each locker room has 3 showers (one handicapped) and about 20 medium lockers (without keys, but a dial combination of four numbers of your choice). Since it is single-sex lockers, clothing is optional for sauna and steam room. There is a water fountain in locker room and plenty of towels available in locker room, and around the pools. They only offer two stretch classes in the gym/spa area for the entire cruise...should be everyday to get passengers in to the gym area. They constantly had "feet, neck pain" consultations, but little for other reason to use gym area. Also 24/7 laundry rooms available on a couple of floors, but I did not personally use them. Online check in and disembarkation were easy and one of the strengths of this cruise experience. Previous Princess passengers seemed to enjoy Princess perks as return passengers. Read Less

This is my second time on the Ruby Princess, but this last cruise was horrible. The staff was rube and it took forever to et service. I had plan a 15 day cruise next Oct. to Hawaii and I am going to cancel that trip.I can not image spend 15 days with that crew. The public bathrooms were not well tended to. In addition, the drinks were watered down and the bartenders took forever getting our drinks. We purchased the drink package. The photographer that took my formal pictures to me that my hair was too wild and I needed to cut it. The entertainment was excellent and Crown Gill was to die for. The dinning room food was ok and the food court was a step above HomeTown Buffet. You must do the Viva Tequilla excursion, it was the best excursion that we have been on.Alos get a day pass to Breatless Resort in Cabo. Read Less

We had a great time because of the people we traveled with but the cruise was underwhelming. I cruised with Celebrity a year ago and it was a much better experience. We took the Princess Ruby Thanksgiving cruise and here are my thoughts in a nutshell. The year food was OK, the service was terrible, the boat is dated but clean, our kids refused to go to the kids club, the shows in the theater were really boring, but the activity director and his staff were great! We were traveling with 3 kids (ages 10 & 9) and they hated the kid's activities and hangout room. With over 900 kids on this cruise, the kids club did not account for so many kids and the activities were crowded. The service was so bad in the dining rooms that we ended up eating in the specialty restaurants for the remained of our trip after 4 days but even in those restaurants, the service was below average. Our drinks were rarely refilled and plates were not picked up and it was painfully slow. Over 2 hours for dinner every night. Don't get me wrong it was relaxing and enjoyable but as far as value goes it was not satisfactory. Read Less

This is for the Mexican Riviera sailing on 11/18. Embarkation/Debarkation were sadly the best parts of this cruise. The cabin itself was decent and clean. The TV options were better than other cruiselines with a rotating schedule of movies and various other programming. Managed to watch 7 NFL games while there which for me was a positive (wife not so much). The two main issues I had with the room was the temperature was too high. Neither my wife or I were comfortable with the temperature at any time. Made sleeping difficult. The pillows were awesome...at first. They are feather pillows and the feathers do poke you - but worse than that is when you've laid on them for about 5 minutes your head sinks all the way through and the feathers move to the side and you no longer have support. Again - sleeping was greatly affected by the high room temperature and the pillows lack of lasting support. Our first experience outside the dining room was to grab a burger at the burger/hotdog shop on the Lido deck. The food was ok but while we sat there for 10 minutes eating we had a guy try to sell us beer THREE TIMES! Man alive!! Let me eat my food! If I didn't want a beer the first time then I don't want it the second or third time and if I do I will come find you! Next experience was going to the bar. Was at the pool area and waited at least 15 minutes without being acknowledged at all and then walked away. They were very busy and clearly could not handle the amount of people with the 2 bartenders they had working. Then there were the children...wow I have never seen so many children. It was truly unfortunate because this caused adults to not be able to use the pools. BOTH pools were overrun with children and if you got in you would be that one weird adult in a pool full of children. How about segregating the children as to not overrun the ship! Next was trying to get something to drink...as in some juice or water. I found the water in the restaurant (buffet) however you couldn't get juice...just water. Lemonade is available occasionally. They put it in a pitcher however the majority of the time it was empty. There are no straws available. So I hunt down someone in the restaurant and ask for straws. They tell me that I have to go to the bar. So I'm at the restaurant and I have to leave the restaurant, wait in line at the bar just to get a straw to take back to the restaurant? WOW - that's crazy amount of work to get a straw. I am not exaggerating when I say this - we were on the cruise 7 days - we saw 2 crew members smile. One was a room service girl and one was a plate hander-outer at the buffet. In my time on the ship I spoke to 3 people at guest services, 4 or 5 bartenders, several waiters and several random people throughout my time there - none of them smiled and most of them made me feel like they were indentured servants. I didn't want to ask for anything because they just made me feel bad for asking more of them. Now let's talk about the Princess Theater - a nice theater that was made completely useless. The shows were a joke - there was only one night out of 7 that had true entertainment and it wasn't that great (Cheaza...yes that's the Whitney Houston tribute singer). Other than that it was things like a "multi-media presentation" or a movie. Other cruiselines I've been on had some really good shows they put on. I will say that there were a few times where there were dancers truly entertaining and seemed to be really into it - including an old white guy who just seemed to have so much energy it was fun. That was during a Love Boat montage at the pool. That was actually really entertaining. Then there as the dining - some cruiselines offer the ability to have a nice dinner sitting by yourself as a couple - you're next to other people but they're actually separate tables. This was not available to us on this cruise. If we were to eat in the main dining area we would be forced to sit at the same table with the same people each night. My marriage has some visual quirks to it and I have ZERO desire to discuss where I'm from, how we met, where we work or anything like that. I just want to have a nice dinner instead of being the topic of conversation at dinner. This forced us to eat at the buffet or burger stand and pizza joint. Didn't take any cruise sponsored shore excursions - however we had a good time at each port. The fitness area - well it was more packed than a gym the day after new years resolutions are set. Too many people all the time EVERYWHERE. I bring it up in the fitness area because it made it impossible to get anything done however it was truly a ship-wide issue. Overall I can say out of the three cruiselines I have sailed this was far and away the worst experience I've had. I had a nice time but that was despite Princess instead of because of Princess. The amount of children and the terrible attitudes of the crew made me never want to give Princess another dime...hate the fact that I tipped them the standard gratuity since almost no one did anything for us or improved our experience.
