Chose this cruise as I particularly wanted to sail into Valetta. Have sailed with MSC before. This time boarding took over 2 hours in Genoa. I met people who said they had taken 4. This meant the cabin was ready as soon as we boarded. I had booked a table for two at dinner and as always we were on a table for 8. This was an anniversary cruise and a rare opportunity for my wife and I to spend time only in each other's company. I asked to be moved but was told 'not possible' even though restaurant was only about 60% full. Fixed this the following day with helpful Maitre D. Our unhelpful waiter then rejected my 30e bottle of wine orders saying he would bring something much better naming a wine I do not know. I asked how much and in an incredulous tone clearly designed to embarrass me into silence said " you want to know how much it is?" I am too old (and mean to fall for this so said yes. Rather sheepishly he pointed to the wine on the menu at 99e a bottle. I refused and he got his own back with dreadful service all night. Luckily the change of table brought a change of staff and the two new waiters were friendly and attentive. Oveall a ship with a great atmosphere. Plenty of happy children around. Many nationalities of staff and guests. Entertainment of good standard every night. Destinations GENOA: Fabulous visits on our own to palaces in the town. Town to ship easily reached by public transport. MAHON; Did not stop due to bad weather. MARSEILLES: Pouring with rain.Recommend you use the MSC transport to town. Free shuttle takes ages, there is a disorganised crush to get on and it does not drop you in town, just outside the port. It is not possible to leave the port on foot. Had used the Petit Train and the big wheel on a previuos visit which were excellent. CAGLIARI: Used tourist land train but no good for photos. Streets are narrow and the low roof made photos impossible. VALETTA. Be on deck for arrival, its amazing how they navigate into the harbour. Great views. Plenty of tourist busses on the waterfront or take a short walk to the lift that takes you up to the city. I love Malta and its' people. MESSINA. Go to Taormina to see Etna. If using the train and buying a ticket from a machine, validate you ticket in one of the small separate validation machines before boarding the train . NAPLES: Can use the Metro to get to the city. Same advice about the tickets. Read Less

This is the second time that my partner and I have bought Fly-Cruise packages for Transatlantic cruise from MSC - But never again. MSC does not allow any flexibility on your flight arrangements and therefore you have no personal time to enjoy the destination prior to boarding the cruise. Our experience of Miami a couple of years back was simply a bus ride from airport to seaport, and even that was through the haze of tiredness following a long flight. This cruise included an overnight onboard the ship in Havana. Day 1 was completely occupied by our flight from Spain which landed very late at night and suffered very poor immigration/customs/transfer arrangements so it was the wee hours of the morning when we finally reached our cabin. We set a wake-up alarm for a few hours later and were able to explore the city for most of day 2, luckily. MSC Armonia was not a bad ship but it was certainly past its prime. The bugbear for us was the extremely poor layout/schedule/selection/quality of the buffet restaurant. After sailing for a day and a half across the open Atlantic we turned round and headed back to perform a med-evac. This event was totally blamed for the subsequent itinerary changes though passenger scuttlebutt identified an out-of-action engine as the principal culprit. Another quibble we have with MSC is their habit of charging a supplement to the cruise fare to passengers in Spain described as Port Taxes (UK and US webpages for MSC include them in the cruise fare advertised) - Whenever itinerary adjustments skip a port of call, however, there is no refund of the corresponding Port Taxes. Choose cruise for destinations. The staff tried very hard but language was a problem for a lot of the waiters. Mostly Italian, Spanish, French and German passengers, British a very small amount of passengers. Gala nights disappointing as most men to lazy to make an attempt to look smart. A lot of the passengers had no manners and were quite rude. Food was appalling and not what I expect when on a cruise as very limited choice and poorly presented. Found strip of plastic in one meal and one so disgusting do not wish to comment. Getting served at breakfast was terrible and waiters had very poor knowledge of European languages. Cabin was the smallest I have ever seen on a cruise ship. No where to put luggage and not enough cupboard space to store clothes. We were on the ship for 2 weeks but they only have one week of shows so the second week shows are repeated not what we are used too. We only went on one shore excursion and after a 15 minute walk to the coach, there was no coach there. They sent mini buses to get started and the coach caught up with us later. Read Less

We chose this cruise mainly because of the cruise destinations namely Cuba, Mexico and Caribbean. I'm so pleased we took very little notice of some of the negative reviews we read before we booked. Our experience couldn't have been bettered. The main reason for this was the quality, friendliness and professionalism of the staff - they were great. Nothing was too much trouble and everything they did for us they did with a smile - a genuine smile. It was obvious to us that there is some great leadership happening aboard this ship and we saw many occasions when the officers would get their sleeves rolled up and help and support their teams when times got busy. This is a cruise ship that really does put their customers at the centre of everything they do. We loved it thank you MSC. Special thanks to Agnes in Bar Services, and Branko Bar Manager - you made it special. The cruise destinations were fabulous and the organisation around embarkation and disembarkation were extremely well organised. We did hear some moans from a couple of other passengers around ship excursions having unexpected elements within them such as having to pay an entrance fee to particular sites that were being visited, and the time it takes to get to those sites, however, this was all explained thoroughly within the ship excursion brochures and was essentially down to those passengers not reading them. We can only speak as we find, and we found this cruise exceptional. We will definitely cruise with MSC again and also on the Armonia. Read Less

We chose this MSC cruise for the destinations, Cuba (3 days) Jamaica, Belize, Mexico, Cayman, Honduras. Before travelling to Havana we had read some quite negative reviews of this ship so were apprehensive. On arrival, staff were so helpful, friendly and couldn't do enough to welcome their passengers. Restaurants were above average, dinner especially good in the Marco Polo restaurant waiter service with wide choices. No queues at breakfast in the buffet open air seating which was always enjoyable. The only real negative was some of the evening shows, but this certainly didn't spoil our evening fun. The passengers were mainly Italian, french and German - but all very friendly to the few brits on board. The pools were emptied each night, always crystal clear and not so chlorinated as others, so swimming was always a nice experience. Around the pool the animation team were brilliant. Entertaining us all day, with Salsa and Latin dance classes & silly games but all great fun. We enjoyed our evening apperitivo before dinner on the floodlit pool terrace, followed by live music and dancing. Value for money - definitely at just £100 per day all inclusive with flights from london. Read Less

A Christmas and New Year cruise starting in a port everyone should see and touring the sunny Caribbean - who could resist. A bit concerned re the iffy reviews on here but our trip confounded them - it was brilliant. And we've cruised with 7 cruise lines to date. Cabin (a balcony) bigger than most, ship condition top class, food excellent (you need to like the Italian way of 6 smaller plate courses) restaurants and bars great (especially the White Lion pub bar) and service levels great in all areas. MSC and Armonia produced the best cruise of our 13 to date. The only down for us was the entertainment - very continental in appeal, but as the majority of customers were mainland European that is unsurprising and they all seemed to enjoy it. Loved the embarkation which saw the cases dropped at the airport in UK and not seen again until the cabin. Loved the disembarkation which allowed us th stay on board until late afternoon as our flight was not until late. Well done MSC, we will be with you again! Read Less

I chose this cruise based on its itinerary and having viewed the website thought the ship would be potentially a little be dated in style but wasn't concerned that in this day and age that the service, food quality and overall experience would be to much of an issue. Afterall, its is an international cruise line in a competitive part of the world - you are spoilt for choice of cruises. I was wrong. I have traveled to almost 50 countires, stayinging hotels, backpackers, developing countries and have cruised multiple cruiselines. I have travelled during coups and evening been on a tour where someone was abducted. This was worse. I have never written a travel review ever - i never felt passionately enough to be negative about a brand - until now! The service was poor - in fact there was little to no service. When calling from your room with a question or concern you were told you would actually have to visit the customer service desk. The inclusions were minimal - with incredibly high prices for anything above what they considered standard. Tours were expensive - dull and - despite having booked an English tour - in french. The worst of it was the food. The food was so bad i ultimately spent 7 days eating cheese pizza - the only thing edible. To describe this food as hospital food or airplane food would be to do both those things a complete disservice. The food was inedible. To add insult to injury the cruise was not cheap, the tours were not cheap and to have a automatic gratuity that with the exchange rate for me was almost double what i paid on my last cruise was a deal breaker. Furthermore, since we could not disembark on time on the final day i missed two flights, spent 10 hours in an airport and dealt with significant stress because despite porting in the country the cruise line appears to have zero relationship with the Cuban government for disembarkation. For those who say the cruiseline doesn't control this one simple thing would have resolved this. At time of booking don't say you arrive at port if a customer cant actually get off the ship. Its that simple. I received an email asking for my feedback. The email didnt work so i spent an hour searching for an email address to send my feedback before finding a form online. Despite including all of the above and having sent this feedback weeks ago i have had no response from MSC. Quite simply I'm surprised that in a day and age where customer service and experience is king and with plenty of competition that MSC are even still operational with such absolutely terrible service. If I'd even received an apology i would have considered not publicly posting this but as it stands i would not recommend this cruise to anyone and wish i had seen an honest review like this before i booked. It is an excellent company where I have been able to travel 3 times, one north of Europe MSc OPERA, and the other 2 with the MSC ARMONIA to Brazil in 2015 and CUBA in 2016. I love the animation of the boat as well as the layout of it and the food and service that are excellent. The shows are different every day and that makes every day a new day. Also I really liked the parties that are done in the pool as they are thematic and very fun. The routes and stops are also quite good as it goes on stopping every day and very varied. In conclusion I love the company and will surely repeat with it that the quality and service are good and the prices very affordable. Is very Nice the company. MSC is a very good company and I'm sure I'll recommend to my friends. Read Less

We were a party of 10 and we booked 5 staterooms with balcony 1 year in advance for the 50th wedding anniversary of my parents in law .once onboard they told us that my parents in law got another stateroom ,they got an upgrade. We asked of it was a balcony stateroom, and they said yes but it's on deck 10 instead of deck 9 where we all had our staterooms.they went to there (upgrade)stateroom and it was an ocean view stateroom .we went immediately to guest services and they told us there was a overbooking, and that the ship was fully booked.what was ment to be a week of happiness became a week of stress.we al paid €380 extra for a balcony stateroom.after a few days MSC suggested a refund of €300 and a 20% discount one a following cruise vallid within the year,REALLY?? After two days MSC raised the compensation to €600 with no further discussion.we had to accept this because otherwise we could end up with nothing.we accept but were not agreed with this settlement,we didn't accept the 20% discount. Overall experience of the ship was verry poor. The staff and crew was not friendly, with exception of our stateroom host and our waiters for dinner.the choice and variety off the food was also very poor. We had booked the beverage package Alegrissimo , but it always took a long time to getting our drinks. Every day there were people getting off the ship and others back on, so every day they held a safety drill (OK for me) but during the safety drill all services stopped ,you couldn't order a drink although the bartender was behind his bar . One day we've booked a shore excursion, this was total chaos, we booked a tour 'Rome on our on' but it was already noon as we arrived in Rome and we had to be back at 4 pm at the bus. the entertainment was every day the same ,the shows in the theatre were amateuristic. MSC will never ever see us again. This was our 10th cruise but the first time with MSC. We normally always cruise with Disney Cruise Line. Read Less
