We absolutely loved our cruise for many reasons... The staff, the great service, the amazing food prepared by chef Monica The entertainment, free drinks...tips included The staff was so nice, always eager to please, one morning a went to get some fruits and got back to my table remembering I forgot a spoon, before I could turn around a member of the team brought one to me? special nights: like a chocolate degustation, Azamazing evening, white nite evening with live music Late snacks.. How clean the ship is and how easy it to 'hop on hop off'' In a word, " Amazing cruise" The 2 specialty restaurant where also outstanding We also had access to a laundry room :washers & dryers and iron and soap no extra fees... All in all we loved our cruise and the crew was perfect, BRAVO !!! I would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone...thank you! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, which did not disappoint, and the reviews we had read about how great the Journey looked after her face lift. We agree that the ship looked so much better than it did in 2015. The staff was still amazing and very attentive to all of our needs. The AzAmazing evening was OK, but many people couldn't see well because of the was the stage was set. If you weren't in the first three rows, it was very difficult to see the performers on the stage. Also the cocktails were minimal, poorly set up and few people knew there was food being passed until it was time to go into the show. The food on board great and every venue showed variety and well prepared choices. The drinks package is OK but Azamara upcharges for certain brands that are included in the basic package for no additional charge on Celebrity. A few more bar and lounge areas would be welcome. The cabins didn't do so well, still on the small size for a veranda cabin and please, those showers are impossible. You cannot turn around, no matter how small you are, without hitting the wall or pulling the curtain in. It shouldn't be necessary to book a suite to get adequate space. Read Less

Our previous experiences on Azamara cruises, coupled with Perry Golf's arrangements for golf at several fine Spanish golf courses, made it easy for us to commit to the 9 night Portugal, Spain, & France voyage. We spent 3 days in Lisbon on our own prior to the cruise. The Lisboa Prata Boutique Hotel was comfortable and well-situated for sightseeing--a 5 minute walk to Comercio Square and only a couple of minutes from the pedestrian street. We booked a tour to Sintra and a lengthy city tour through Viator and were quite pleased with both tours. A 10 minute taxi ride got us to the port on Sept 16, where we boarded Azamara Journey very quickly. We were surprised that photos were taken and our sea pass cards generated onboard the ship. The disembarkation process in Barcelona was even easier. This was by far the quickest we've ever experienced in 25+ cruises. Well done! We had not traveled on Azamara since the ships were refurbished, so we examined the ship with a critical eye. We were delighted with the result; everything looked fresh and clean. We appreciated the muted colors and smart changes that have been made, but we were also delighted to see that many features from the original Renaissance ships have been retained. The Patio was a welcome addition to evening dining. Because the cruise was relatively short, we scrambled to try to sample all the dining opportunities. The Chef's Table was wonderful--excellent wines and food from the French menu. We also enjoyed the Prime C specialty restaurant but didn't have time for Aqualina this time. We ate in the main dining room a couple of times and had very good meals both times. However, the golf schedule and several late excursions left us too tired for leisurely dinners a few nights. I generally took ship excursions in the ports, though our 2-night stay in Valencia allowed several of us to take a hop-on hop-off bus on our own for one day. Valencia was also the site for the AzAmazing Evening, which we thoroughly enjoyed at the City of Arts & Sciences venue. I was pleased with all of the excursions, though our excursion to Carcassonne from Port Vendres left late and was just a bit rushed. Though the Azamara cabins are a bit small, they offer good storage and are quite comfortable. We enjoy ships of all sizes, but I have to admit that Azamara's 30,000 ton ships are just about perfect in my eyes. Journey has almost all of the features of much larger ships but on a smaller scale. I love the fact that I can get from one end of the ship to the other in 5 minutes--and that the ship can dock in so many delightful small ports that the big ships have to pass up. From late nights in port to the enrichment and entertainment activities to the friendly officers and crew, Azamara Journey offered us a truly delightful experience. We will definitely go again. Prefer smaller ships as much more personal We loved the itinerary and extra time in port Most of the food was great some not as good at least two items tasted tainted and reheated White wines mainly good Loved the sparkling We found the reds very disappointing Very friendly team on board did not meet any officers Guest services were very helpful at any time Don't like comedians so did not go to their shoes Enjoyed the guitarist and pianist Loved the white night but some info pre cruise would have been helpful ie it's a deck party and wear something white!! Cabin looking fairly tired wallpaper beginning to peel off some mould in shower Bathroom cupboard broken and door frame quite dirty needs a good scrub Very comfortable bed and loved the bedding Easy to embark and to disembark although pretty early when you have to be off by 9 am and not get into hotels or apartments till afternoon Some tour guides far better than others but enjoyed the places we visited however the ability of guests needs to be looked at more as we were held up by others who struggled to keep up and so missed out on seeing more Maitre D did fabulous job in the dining room as did the staff in Prime particularly the 2 waiters we had Read Less

We chose Azamara for the small ship and also for the best itinerary immersion into the ports of call. Imagine docking right in the center of Bordeaux... closer to the center then the river cruises!! It was quite the experience to get off the ship and walk right up to the Place de la Bourse. The majority of our stops took us to the heart of the cities, otherwise we had a plethora of shuttles taking us right to the center like in Bilbao, dropping us off a couple of streets down from the Guggenheim museum. I was impressed by the quality of service and service excellence from all the crew members. We could interact easily and daily with the Captain and all the officers. The hotel director even ensured I was fine when I felt seasick. Giving me kind advice and finding a quiet table nearest to the center of the ship one evening. He took personal care to ensure we enjoyed ourselves regardless of the waves (the Atlantic can churn a lot, as a first time cruiser, it was though to start with, but sea bands and drugs helped). Our safety was of utmost importance and when a port of call had to be changed because Pasais' port was closed, the process was seamless. The entire crew was ultra busy making all the changes and adjustments in the background, but no one looked stressed or nonplussed about it. Very impressive. I'm not sure if the crew ever says no to anyone. We were spoiled. It was great. The food is plentiful and there is something for everyone from meat lovers to health nuts, to vegan to gluten free. Everything is fresh and there is a made to order station in every outlet. There is food everywhere on the boat, so you can never go hungry. The complimentary alcohol is acceptable (although beer selection is ordinary, they could do much better). We never felt we had to upgrade to any of the wine packages. People we talked too felt the same way too. The staterooms are on the small side (we had a V2) and the bathroom microscopic. Only one person can be in there at the same time. After a couple of days, we got used to it and it did not bother us. The bed... oh so comfortable!!!!! The mattress is firm while the sheets ultra soft. A huge fluffy comforter on top keeps you nice and cozy. Each room is individually temperature controlled, so you can have it the way you like. The embarkation and disembarkation are wonderful giving the small number of guests on board. Even the one tender we took we didn't wait at all. There was always a shuttle running is the other ports where it was needed and we never waited. VIP service all the way. I loved how the crew welcomed us home after the day. It really felt like home and for us, who generally prefer independent travels, we found ourselves looking forward to being back on board. You can also feel the pride the crew has for their ship. Many are long time employees and the company seems to take good care of them, which is very important for us. Happy crew will take care of their customers. The overall experience was very positive and I can't wait to go back in March for a part of their World Journey. Read Less

Previously sailed on Azamara, in spite of last year's 'refurbishment' (all very surface) the ship is dated, cabins small, shower tiny, wait staff brusque, food just okay, not a luxury or sub-luxury experience. This ship is truly not worth the cost, Viking Ocean and Oceana are light years better in every way. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are better for much less money. Cruise Director was awful, insulted an entire audience in Bilbao, Spain by stating that their language is Catalan, he is ignorant and was barely coherent that night, can't describe what a jerk he made of himself and what a terrible representative he was of Azamara. On-board entertainment was from hunger. Itinerary had to change due to sea conditions, stuck in Bayonne, France for three days, Azamara did nothing to smooth this over, in essence set up shuttle from the industrial berth where the ship was anchored to center of town and gave us train schedules to get to the ports we could not access by sea (Biarritz and St. Jean du Lux). Azamara handled this situation with less class than one would expect from Carnival. Food was mediocre, paying for specialty restaurants on this price level is a crime. Included wines for the most part were undrinkable. I don't like writing negative reviews but anything positive would not be truthful. Don't waste your money on Azamra. Read Less

We wanted to revisit some old haunts and then stay on in Portugal when we disembarked. The weather caused problems from the first port - Guernsey - where the tender was battered by the waves and getting back on board was hair raising. Bordeaux was great - good location. Easy for public transport and walking. We took the tram to the end of the line to a small French town and even went through vineyards. St Jean de Luz was impossible to use the tender and so we went to Bayonne. The town was fine although the dock was industrial and the mountain of sulpher beyond the balcony was bright yellow and different. We took a taxi to St Jean and a 2 Euro bus trip back! As we could not get into the next port we stayed in Bayonne. Bilbao was lovely and the Azamazing evening a real treat. Oporto - arrival was delayed by fog but once it lifted we had no problems. We took the shuttle into town and the vintage tram back to near the ship and then a taxi. Lisbon was lovely but busy but as we stayed on for a few days it got busier as 3 or 4 huge ships a day docked. We love Azamara but would appreciate a few more changes in Prime C and Aqualina. Having had 4 or 5 cruises with the present menu a change would be great. We love the friendly service. The passengers seem to be more likely to be travelling in large groups and the passengers don't seem to mix as much as groups tend to spend time together. Read Less

In 2008, we took our 1st Azamara Cruise in the Mediterranean, 10 cruises later, we came back to Azamara and just returned from the 12 Night Baltic Sea to London voyage. This was by far the best cruise we have taken in years. The food was fabulous, not only in the specialty restaurants and main dining room, in the buffet as well. The stateroom and balcony were great. The bathroom a little tight, but plenty of storage. The 3 days in St. Petersburg was perfect. Highlights: Special Azamara night at the Russian Symphony Hall, The White Night Dinner, and long days in Port. Embarkation and Disembarkation was easy without waiting in long lines. The Port Locations were always close to town, except in Stockton. Shuttles were provided, is necessary. We did not attend the entertainment activities, we opted for late dinners, instead. We will return to the Azamara, it was Simply The Best! Read Less

This was out fourth cruise on the Journey. Loved the redecorating. The crew was very friendly and accommodating. Thank you for providing us with what we needed to have Sabbath services onboard. The apple tarts were delicious. Would have liked to have a more private setting for the services. There was a lot of noise from the bar and another reception happening. It was wonderful to meet Lek Waleska. The Azamazing Evening was a real treat. Very well organized. The Cruise Critic reception allowed us to meet other couples right away. The food was excellent and we really appreciated accommodating my husband's food allergies. The wine tasting was very good. The wine steward was very knowledgable and did a great job of explaining things to us. Our cabin steward was very thoughtful and helpful He obtained an extension cord for the CPAP machine. We made some wonderful new friends on board. Read Less

This was our third Azamara cruise and we have loved each one! The ship size is ideal for us. The ship's staff could not have been any friendlier. We dined three times in the specialty restaurants and did two of the chef's tables with wine. All were very good. Also could find no complaints with the Discoveries Restaurant. Very diverse selections. White Night was exceptional! Also enjoyed the Sunday brunch with the jazz band. Thanks to recommendations from other Cruise Critic roll call members, we booked tours in St Petersburg and Berlin with SPB Tours. Highly recommend! St Petersburg was unbelievable! So glad we had three full days there. Due to the small size of the ship, we were able to pull into the heart of St Petersburg. The weather was exceptional for the most part. Just a brief shower one afternoon. It was nice Azamara provided free shuttles from the ship into Tallin and Skagen. Made a number of new friends on the cruise. Another big benefit of the smaller ships. Nice to have a free laundry on board. Embarkation and disembarkation were both a breeze. Enjoyed so much we booked back to back cruises for next year. Counting the days! Read Less
