We wanted to do this itinerary and our regular cruise line wasn’t doing it at the time we wanted to go in January so our travel agent suggested Princess and said they were a good cruise line. They were definitely not up to the level of service or up to par on food experiences compared to other lines we have been on. It’s the first holiday I’ve returned from and didn’t gain any weight. We were very disappointed but others may not have been. We have been spoiled by services and food preparations on other lines. Princess may be considered upscale compared to Carnival, but they are far below other lines we have cruised with. It was not a cheap cruise as we upgraded our suite considerably from a standard stateroom to a suite but we don’t feel we got value for our money in any other area. We were told our itinerary when we booked and we began making plans for our shore excursions. Three weeks before we were emailed that the itinerary was changing and would be reversed which meant having to change our plans while in ports on different days. Not that bad but still something that wasn’t anticipated when making all of our plans initially. Cabo was a disappointing stop as it was very very short time in port and we have been to Cabo before. It’s a lovely stop if you have time to get past the pier. Read Less

The ship itself is beautifully appointed...The group and common areas are quite elegant. However, much of our experience was sub-par. This is our 19th or 20th cruise with Princess...we have booked the Club Class accomodations for the pasts 4 or 5 years. We found the new décor and cabin layout made the room much more crowded and confining. We most frequently travel with another couple and get connecting patio decks. this connecting door was absolutely ridiculous...it was the size of the entire connecting wall and when opened we could not get out on our deck or see out the window for that matter...Terrible. As for the food...it was really sub-par...almost never received a warm or HOT plate of food for that matter. Club Class is touted as being a PERK...special dishes prepared special for the Club Class dining room...right before your eyes...all done by the dining room Captain...That was a rare occasion...maybe only once...the Special dishes usually came from the kitchen or were sitting in a dish getting cold at one end of the dining room...The wait staff was good, but far fewer servers than in the past...so meals were delivered very slowly. Another BIG issue was the temperature of the dining room. It was so-o-o cold many of the diners, myself included, were forced to wear their heavy jackets...Why would they keep the temp so cold...ridiculous...I was miserable throughout the entire meal. All in all the ports were great, the weather was delightful and we will continue to cruise with Princess. Read Less

We booked this cruise almost 18 months in advance. My husband and I were so excited to go on this cruise. Embarking the ship was so easy, the employees guiding us were so nice and courteous. The cabin was very clean and pretty spacious. We had a deluxe balcony and I loved being able to sit outside with a little privacy and just relax to the sound of the water and beauty of the ocean. The ship is beautiful, golden and glass fixtures everywhere. It is really impressive. We booked two shore excursions, one in Puerto Vallarta and one in Mazatlan. They were both good and I recommend the beach excursion in Puerto Vallarta. We were bussed to a resort where we were able to sit under a large umbrella on the beach. We had our choice of infinity pool or ocean to swim in. The outdoor resteraunt at the resort serves the best fish tacos. We actually lost time in Cabo because of issues with speed on the ship, something with the generator. We were supposed to be at port from 11am to 8pm, we ended up porting from 6am to noon. It didn't even seem worth it to me to get up at 4am to get dressed and ready to disembark by 6am. I was really disappointed and felt like we got cheated out of this port. This was disappointing to say the least. The entertainment on the ship, in my opinion was terrible. It was boring and dry. There was no "adult" entertainment as far as I was concerned. I expected the entertainment to change from G rated to at least PG13 at night. This ship seems to cater to an older crowd of people, and the music was also horrible on deck. They played the Tommy Dorsey band on loop at the adult pool and I wanted to fling myself onto the lower deck. Alot of activities during the day had to do with back pain, foot pain, neck pain, etc. I'm on a ship to have fun, not get diagnosed. My husband and I are in our early 40s and would have liked to have seen and heard a better variety of music, shows, and activities other than chinese herbal remedies for hemorrhoids (I made up the hemorrhoid part). The Medallion App that they are so proud of is a gigantic waste of time. The app was down from Saturday until Wednesday on the Android app. We couldn't see what was going on unless we walked to a board near the elevators. Also they spoke so highly of the journey experience to see where the ship was, this portion of the app never worked on our Android phones. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing knocked our socks off, not even the Captains Grill. We paid extra for this experience and it was nothing to write home about. I had lobster here and actually ended up getting sick. After losing every bit of substinance in my body, I was finally able to stop sweating and get some rest. Terrible experience. My experience with the staff was also not a positive one. I usually bring 150 with me to tip above and beyond my prepaid gratuity. I am from Las Vegas, and we tip people when they do a good job. Needless to say, I have 130 bucks in my pocket. The only person I tipped was my steward. He was fantastic. My experience with the employees were that they were unhappy and maybe overworked. We didn't ask for any unusual requests. We are usually pretty self reliant. But when I speak to someone and say good morning, or hello, I do expect a nod, smile or a hello, some kind of acknowledgement. Apparently this is too much for the majority of them. I cant tell you how many times I walked up to a bar or a coffee stand to order something and was completely ignored. After a while I got tired of having to ask the person manning the counter to help me, so I gave up. Also, the Princess Live bar was the same. The bartender was making a drink doing some pretty fancy stuff with his shaking and pouring, and my husband said "wow, you reminded me of Tom Cruise in Cocktail". The bartender responded under his breath out of earshot, so I called him out and asked him to speak up. He turned his back to me and said something I could not hear, so I again asked him what he said. At this point he ignored me and pretended like we weren't there. My opinion is that some of their employees need to go through some extensive customer service training on common courtesy. This being said, I had more fun on a 4 day carnival cruise for a fraction of what I paid for this. I realize it is the same company, but it's obvious to me that customer service on the section 8 carnival cruise is way more important to those employees than the Royal Princess employees. I don't think I will be cruising with them in the future. Read Less

Our anniversary. Very disappointed with the ship and quality. Princess used to be our favorite after 10 cruises with them. Not planning to cruise with them again. Everything seems to have changed seems like only interest in nickel and dime you for amenities the gave in the past Much prefer the older ships. Restaurant food was only average. If you asked for additional entree were charged additional $19.00 Specialty restaurants not worth the money. Better food in the Buffett seems like not enough help in the dinning rooms or on the main showroom couldn’t find anyone to order a drink . Balconies in the mini suite so small not enough room for 2 to use the lounges. Overall very disappointed. WiFi expensive and had to continue to log in all the time. Not surprised if they start charging for luggage cut the shire visit to Cabo to 4 hours Continually annoyed by the people trying to take your picture Each bar had different drink menu every and price was different when you orders the same drink in one bar grey goose was the well. In the next bar it was kettle one in the next it was Belvedere. Sea food bar had good oysters but the sushi was pre cut came in plastic bag not wonderful. Again another charge to eat there. Read Less

I totally agree with "Overcrowding" situation described by another reviewer. They put over 5000 people on the ship (passengers and crew) but the elevators were the same size and number as on the 2000 passenger ships we've been on. But my REAL disappointment was with the Medallion thingie. It was announced two years ago and has been in "sea trials" for almost a year. I think we were on an inauguration cruise (or at least it felt that way). From my reading I expected (anticipated) the following: 1) Boarding would be LOTS faster than on Pre-Medallion cruises) 2) Getting drinks on the Lido Deck would be LOTS faster also 3) Finding our friends on the ship wouldn't require a pre-arranged meeting place and time 4) Seeing my bill would be simple Medallions are supposed to do other things but I didn't care about any other features. Here is what I found: 1) Boarding took the same amount of time - even though we had received our medallions in the mail prior to arriving at the port. For those people who didn't have medallions already, the line to get them was LONG - VERY long. 2) Getting a drink on the Lido deck STILL took longer than it took me to eat. I'd finished eating and was leaving as I watched the waiter go by with my drink. 3) We were quite intrigued by the idea of being able to locate our friends on the ship. Unfortunately setting up the medallion to do that proved impossible for us. We ultimately had to resort to having a crew member do it for us. It took him over 15 minutes to make it work. And we were not alone. The line to get help  was more than 30 people long all during the (rather limited) hours posted. We finally got someone to help on day 3 of the 7 day cruise. 4) The bill was supposed to be available via medallion. But when I accessed it, I was informed by the computer that my account didn't exist. So I had to get a copy from the Guest Services Desk. On the PLUS side, the medallion was a GREAT room key. But that was about the only thing it could do without problems. Other things: We wanted to play cards. But there is no card room. So we asked at Guest Services where we could go. They suggested: 1) Crown Grill - We coiuldn't because they were serving Pub Lunch there 2) Library - Nope was full (2 tables fill up quickly) 3) Sabatinis - No. A private function was going on. They had no other suggestions. So we left. Later we wandered toward the dining room to see what was for dinner. We had to do that because medallion doesn't include menus. We found the staff had set up both cards and games there. So why didn't Guest Services know about that? Food was good to VERY good except for breakfast which was boring. We ate at Sabatinis one night and had to apologize to our table mates for recommending it because the meal was quite ordinary - certainly not worth paying $29 each for it. The highlight of the cruise was the "word-of-mouth" Winemaker dinner. It wasn't advertised. We found out about it purely by accident. That meal raised my overall rating of the cruise from a "D" to a "C-". But overall, I have to say that Medallion-Class is a dud. Read Less

Dinner was almost same menu every nights dissapointed. Same salad & soup most time.too. Took Alaskan cruise back in May and was better than this cruise, may try another cruise line to see what they can offer or compare that’s what we need to do may be. It was too many people this time compare from last trip and over all my husband & I were disappointed. Entertainments were just ok not that fantastic. Sometimes restroom was dirty. Over all restaurant food was disappointed too. Another disappointment was was the gift shop selection. People told us ship was only one year old, but hard for us to believe bcuz most places were not that clean either. Read Less

Many bad experiences on this cruise. Absolutely do not book a room over the theater. Loud banging noise until 11pm. The service was horrible- I had to get my own everything..... too much bad to write about. The food was really bad for the most part. Unhealthy and tasteless OR way too salty. Steward was no where to be found. Room service didn’t answer once. Front desk was rude several times during the week. Shops were very pushy to buy, as was the art auction. Super loud party constantly on deck. Fitness center track is built right over the smoking area (yuck) Bartenders were always grumpy. Adult pool was way too hot. Excursions were canceled (two ports!) the elevators were impossible to get on, Ina regular basis The good: the nightly shows and the cruise director’s personality. The sushi. There are many cruise lines out there. Might want to shop around. I have this cruise line booked for May and will Probably cancel it was so bad Read Less

I booked this cruise with my son ( less than a year old), my wife and my in-laws as a getaway. From the moment we arrived at the dock in LA, things just got worse for us. Upon arrival, my wife did not get the correct medallion to gain her Elite status that she had earned. Instead, she got the basic blue one as I had got (since this was my first time sailing with Princess). When it came time to board the ship instead of being asked if we wanted to take the elevator or even mentioning where the elevators were. They expected that we were going to take my son's stroller (which had a full case of water as they WILL NOT PROVIDE WATER FOR FORMULA) up the escalator and carry it the rest of the way. By the time we had moved over to the elevators and had reached the gangway. All other groups had been called and had begun their boarding of the ship, negating any elite status embarkation privilege we were supposed to have. Once we got onboard we headed over to guest services to get the lay of the land and find out the locations of the change tables to make things easier for us, as my son had already needed to be changed from waiting at the dock. The rep at the counter instructed us that "all ADA washrooms had change tables", so off I went to change him. Sadly none of them had change tables onboard the ship (only one is in the kid's club on deck 17). So irritated we went back the next day to enquire about it and were told that "they do not provide them because people may try to flush the diapers, and that it is more sanitary to change them in your room". This came as a complete shock and off as a huge sign of disrespect towards us, not because of the comment but the realization that the company clearly markets themselves as a "multi-generational welcoming company". So while I would not expect go-karts or waterslides to be on board, basic medical necessities like change tables surely should have been available (even if it were just one per level). Then comes the real kicker, during my week onboard everyone from guests to crew members felt it within their right to come up and touch my child. While he does not have any medical issues I do not permit strangers to come up and touch him as I see this as disrespectful and the number of guests that do not wash their hands frequently is appalling (norovirus does spread like wildfire on ships for a reason people). Towards the end of the cruise, I brought forward the issue of crew members touching my child without consent to the person at guest services and they just laughed at this and the idea that I had to either run back to the room to change my child fighting my way past hallways that were always cluttered with carts from the cleaning staff. Or change him on the floor of the bathroom in the ADA washrooms. The doorways into the rooms are so narrow that a basic single collapsible stroller cannot pass through adding to the daily aggravation for the family. So in closing, if there is supposed to be truth in advertising then Princess really has missed the mark on this and I will be sure to never recommend them as a cruise line to anyone with children. The only reason I am giving two out of 5 above is that the Maitre d was excellent and addressed all our concerns with our dining promplty and professionally. Along with our room stweardess Paula, her friendly bubbly attitude helped make our stay a lot better than it was. Read Less

This was our 11th cruise with Princess. This is our first negative review. Very disappointed in management's poor decision to cruise Alaska with this ship. First, the Royal did NOT go inside Vancouver island as advertised. Second, we were UNABLE to get into Juneau Aug 20 because the winds were beyond the "operational capabilities" of the Royal Princess. By the way, weather.com said the winds were about 13 knots. All other large ships sailing that day and that week got into Juneau with no problems. We missed a major brown bear excursion via sea plane ... this was the most recent of many cruises on a Princess ship and we're pretty upset they sent a ship to Alaska that was not able to navigate the waters with ease........and with safety. Earlier in the year, Southeast Alaska Pilots Association (SEAPA) was worried about the Royal's ability to maneuver in these waters.....and it was suggested to have tugs stationed to help the Royal due to her limitations. But apparently due to the expense of the tugs, the cruise line balked at the price of the service. Third, Royal's poor maneuvering capabilities (and planning) affected us in another way as well. Namely, just 3 days before departure Princess notified us that the Royal was going to depart one hour before the previously scheduled departure time ... due to tides. Really! I skippered a small boat for 8 years and I can tell you that any skipper can look up what the tides will be like months or even years in advance. This last minute change forced us to change our flight date by an entire day.......and we had to purchase last-minute accommodations in a very crowded and, therefore, expensive Vancouver hotel. What was Princess thinking sending this ship into Alaskan waterways. We have cruised many times on Princess and we would never have thought the company would have made such an error in planning. The Royal Princess is a beautiful vessel and we enjoyed the creature comforts, entertainment, and food. But, it is of overriding importance that the ship the cruise line chooses for a particular voyage is fit for the trip being offered. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation ok until you get to lengthy customs. Ship entertainment very sparse at best. Not as stated online and in the brochures. Only 2 short shows the whole week. Nothing for 19-21 year olds to do. Food average in the buffet and anytime seating. Crown Grill dining the best. No whales sited. Our stateroom was on deck 16 and unfortunately there were very noisy kids on deck 17 running up and down ALL DAY & ALL NIGHT! Port stops ok. Typical tourist stuff. Skagway was fun. Museum, downtown shopping and a show representing the old "red light" district. Excursions were plentiful. We did our own and saved money. Glacier and wilderness the best. Recently cruised 7 days Anchorage to Vancouver. I could hardly believe the poor food in the buffet, often lukewarm and poor quality, mostly stews it seemed. But the worst was the lack of cleanliness. Railings were shiny on top but I usually avoid the top rail because every other person has touched it. The 2nd row was almost always a sticky mess. This is not acceptable. Buffet on sister ship the Regal was great 1 1/2 years ago and I expected the same. As mentioned previously quality of food was a big letdown. No hot eggs or meats. Desserts not very tasty. the first 2 days of the cruise there was a person by the hand washing station leaning against the far wall requesting people to wash. I figure about 90% compliance. After those 2 days here was no staff person there, about 10% of people were actually washing hands, hand sanitizer dispenser was around the corner where it could barely be seen. I find this completely unacceptable, especially as most cruisers were first time on Princess so need to learn infection control. Kid in Pyjamas in front of hot counter sneezing with no hand coverage just pushed me over the edge. It appears Princess has changed their bed linens also, no top sheet and duvet cover is about 3o" shorter than the duvet so your feet are covered by a duvet that probably was used for the last person too. I did not like this either. Read Less

We, a group of 15 - mostly vegetarians, took the Royal Princess cruise to Alaska aboard Royal Princess ship from Vancouver on May 25... While the ship is new, comfortable and well decked, the food experience on this ship is a nightmare, particularly, if you happen to be a vegetarian or a vegan. A few weeks prior to boarding/ check in, I had declared my vegetarian status and food restrictions in terms of no eggs, fish & peanuts to the Cruise liner on their website where they collect such information from prospective travelers. To my horror, no food on the ship is labeled for any allergies/ food restrictions when even daily consumption items like Brown Hashes contained egg on this ship... while the non vegetarian spread seemed elaborate, the vegetarian selection is meagre... every cruise traveler boasts of gaining weight after a cruise, I could only boast of losing some... Even the dinner menus do not carry any vegan or non egg dishes. I escalated the situation through their multiple layers of management finally reaching the Maitre de Chief and their Chief Chef (btw, it’s a tough job reaching to these senior people through their Customer Service folks who try every trick to dissuade you)… both heard me but did nothing about it for first 2 days of the cruise. Its only after I insisted on a meeting with the Captain of the ship that the General Manager intervened and things became a bit more palatable… Similarly, the service on the ship leaves a lot to be desired. A simple thing like asking for extra towels can take more than 5 reminders and 2 hours. Overall, the attitude is callous, uncaring… The staff seems to be tired from long hours and being at sea continuously for weeks/ As regards onboard experience, the entertainment is good and shopping arcade is well appointed... Even the finer restaurants tasted like the buffet food. Some of the waitstaff do not have adequate English speaking skills. Wanted to cruise the Mexican Riviera with our best friends. Thought Princess was supposed to be a good line. Nothing special about it. The food was not very good , even the food in the pay extra restaurants. The room was very small and lacked any color or attractivenes and it was classified as a Deluxe Balcony Stateroom. We wont be sailing with Princess again. There are too many better choices... Royal Caribbian, NCL, Disney, Oceana, Holland America. The best thing about this cruise was how great our room steward was. As far as the itinerary, Puerto Vallarta was the best, lots to see and do. Though Cabo is a nice place to spend a few days (have done that in the past) I dont think it was worth the hastle of going ashore. The other thing that was a surprise is that the "Stuff" they served as ice cream was NOT... it was watery and tasteless. And lastly, finding seating at the buffets was always a challenge. First time on a cruise. Expectations were high. Those glitzy commercials... First, the positives. Overall it was a relaxing and friendly environment. I cannot say enough positive about the wait staff in the dining areas and every other staff member we crossed was cheery and enthusiastic and very willing to help and engage. The state room was filthy on arrival. Feces smeared on the sides of the toilet bowl, dirty hand prints in the shower, and clearly not vacuumed. Patio doors to deck were filthy too. Sofa in room was grimy looking. You board a ship with trepidation about getting norovirus and this is what greets you. We were given a complimentary meal in the steak house after complaining. Never did see the complimentary robes we signed up for before the cruise. The internet service you purchase is locked to one device. This is not mentioned prior to purchase. The ship's television service went out three times for hours, once for a solid 24 hours. - so much for relaxing in your room at the end of an evening with a show before bedtime. I was glad to not be traveling with children. The buffet featured food that was bland the majority of the time. Maybe I can appreciate this more when I am a geriatric. Food had from the other dining areas was much better. AMATEUR live entertainment. For example there was a Mariachi band with some members pretending to play instruments along to canned recordings. It made relaxing in common areas during live performances difficult. It really was that cringe worthy. I am not musical at all and I was picking up on it. For my husband who is a classically trained musician it was excruciating. The Medallion GPS tracker/room key/electronic payment device was convenient. I felt like part of a wildlife tag and release program but it did aid the room stewards in knowing we were not in the room and we found it cleaned at all differing hours of the day which was convenient. For those signing up for shore excursion packages please do NOT assume that if lunch is provided as part of the excursion that a beverage of ANY sort is included as well (billed separately for water - surprise!). Mazatlan is a hard pass. Anyone who has visited a Mexican city bordering the US has already seen what they have to offer of squalor, but now add in many Mexican federal policemen with machine guns for that extra war zone feel. My overall rating is being kind .This was a very dissapointing cruise. The food in the main dining rooms was just okay. It wasn't up to our expectations. Having sailed Princess in the past many times, I found the Royal Princess to be a disappointment. Much better liked the design of the Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby Princess - not to mention the Crown Princess. The bathrooms on the balcony staterooms are so small. Very disappointing. The carpet in our stateroom was in horrible condition as well as our other party that we were with - balcony cabin. The entertainment was disappointing or nowhere to be found. The gym workout area was so ridiculously small. The servers and the attitude of the staff was not like we have experienced in past Princess cruises where everyone went over and above to make sure the experience was fantastic. The staff seemed not happy to be there. The time at the Ports of Call was so rushed that you barely had any time at each port. A note to Princess: I see a couple of your future ships are going to be designed like this ship - which to me is just like a Carnival ship. As previously mentioned, the Diamond Princess and the Sapphire Princess were a much better designed ship and made a much better experience. When crossing the only hallway by the Princess Live Theatre, it was so crowded, you barely had 7 foot of space to walk through to pass without bumping into other passengers. You couldn't walk around the ship. All traffic was kept on one side of the ship. I was very dissappointed! Read Less

The largest balcony rooms (not suites) were too small and too much furniture. Food was not good. It seems the chef likes to make the food look good, but it honestly had no taste. They served a lot of pork meals - probably because pork is so cheap. Not impressed. The medallion method is awesome. We never had to sign anything and were able to use the apps to see what was going on around the ship without carrying the agenda around with us all day. The entertainment was second rate at best. Typical comedian - a constant barrage of not funny cruise jokes. There was a juggler that didn't really juggle very well. The 2 female singers had talent. Not sure how the 2 male singers ended up in this production. The best entertainment we saw was the cruise director (he was funny and friendly) and the games they played. The internet access was amazing - the best we've had on a cruise ship. This will most likely be the last Princess cruise for us. The cons definitely outweighed the pros. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the value and mostly because it leaves locally from a port in my home town. The bed was uncomfortable and the ship does not provide ANY alternatives. The response to maintenance took days. I had brought protein drinks that had to be kept cool and the fridge wasn't cooling. For some reason the ship decides to schedule maintenance on our balcony during the early morning while we were at sea and told us to keep our doors locked and curtains closed. When I opened the doors later I found notes to not touch the railings and the smell was awful. The entertainment was Vegas Lounge level. Other than the helpful, awesome crew, I was very disappointed in just about everything else. The food was pretty good too. My only complaint about that was that out of all 20 or so choices of dessert there was nothing chocolate (except cookies) on many nights in the buffet. Try Royal Caribbean instead! Read Less

We really wanted to love Princess. They charge and position their experience on par with other premium cruise lines. Let's not forget that Princess is owned by Carnival. We scored the Royal Princess two stars as a premium cruise ship - if they were a mainline cruise ship we would have scored them with 3 stars. First, items we appreciated: the spa was a good value and was overall a great experience, the adult pool wasnt always warm on cold sea days however we appreciated the relaxing option away from kids. Items that disappointed: Food was much better on Celebrity cruises in the main dining rooms, buffet and the specialty restaurants. We had rubbery veal one night, over cooked fish another night and a veggie burger that was essentially a mash potato patty. There were no egg white breakfast options, no turkey sausage or turkey bacon. No omelette station. We only have desserts on vacation so for us desserts are a highly coveted thing: the ice creams were consistently of the cheap variety that melted quickly and chocolate cake wasn't always available even in the buffet. The Afternoon Tea was a joke - all the items were readily available in the buffet. The ratio of server to table was terrible. We sat starving (we had skipped lunch for Tea.. we waited forever for food to come by our table and after 10 minutes of disappointment we went to the buffet. In all fairness we tried specialty dining for 3 nights and one of them was exceptionally good at Sabatini's. One of the main dinning meals on lobster night was pretty good. The phone app with their ship map didn't work except on the last day of the cruise. The tendering process was messy and took three hours to get everyone off at Cabo San Lucas. They used the life safety boats to get us off the ship and they were really slow. Consequently, we ended up missing half of our excursion. When we were tendered back to the ship they used a third party service which was much faster. So missing our excursion was entirely avoidable if they had planned ahead for the third party tendering service. The only logical explanation was a cost savings by using their own life safety boats. Comparing Princess with Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, we ranked Princess in last place for the overall culinary experience. Most days I like I was on a diet because menu options were generally unappealing. At the end of the day, we felt that being owned by Carnival was evident based on the many small details that when added up equalled a below average 7 day experience. Read Less

We are both Elite level and have traveled on Princess, Carnival and NCL. We expect excellent service. Unfortunately this is not the case on this ship. There where NO robes in cabin and NO laundry bags had to asked for them from cabin steward on both items. When I looked thru the coupon book that was in cabin found items that had expired in 2018 The food in MDR and Buffet was not good at all, it was rubbery and over cooked. The only good place to eat was in Alfredo's Pizzeria the food was good and it was hot we did use the Crown Grill for two nights and it is always very good and we had great service there. I tried the Trident Grill on two different days and both times there was only one man there to cook and serve. Long lines and long wait. The IC was and other place where we had troubles on the first day at sea I went to get Specialty coffee when I made my order I was told that there was NOT ANY LARGE CUPS and had to have regular cup. This was for the whole trip and ever one had bought coffee cards for the trip, but could only get regular cups of coffee. This with not being able to carry the coffee cards to next trip made it a bad deal. With all of this an other troubles, we did not get future cruise sales. We are going to try other lines that may have better service Read Less

We chose this 49 day cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles because of the itinerary and because we would only have to fly once from Los Angeles to FL and only drive from Los Angeles back home. We chose Princess because we thought we would have an above average experience. Princess failed to impress us and although we are close to elite status, will have to rethink going on our next cruise on Princess. We were happy with our balcony room, room stewart and the ship in general. The library was sad as it is very small and there are not many books or reading material. Dining: We tried our assigned table and early dining three times but found the food subpar, lacking taste and options limited. After that we ate our meals in the Horizon Court which offered more variety, but not taste. Most foods were on the salty side. I did not like the soup stations as I found the soup ladel too small for the huge pots and found people trying to fish for the dropped spoon with their hands in the soup. I eat fish or vegan/vegetarian dishes and found that the fish offerings were poor. The cheapest fish was offered and it is mostly freshwater tilapia, trout or on occasion sole. You never know what type of fish you are eating because the dishes were just labeled baked fish, fried fish, fish in sauce..etc. with no details as to the type of fish being served. Personally I don't care for freshwater fish, and tilapia seemed to be the only fish available. If you like mahi mahi, swordfish yellotail, etc....you won;t find it here. Shrimp was always offered, but I have a thing with farmed shrimp or fish and stayed away from shrimp. I prefer the larger wild caught shrimp. Chocolate Journeys/Desserts: Poor in my opinion. I have a sweet tooth and enjoy good desserts or baked goods. I found the cakes very dry as if they had been baked weeks before and then decorated on the day they were served. There was not one dessert that I found that left an impression. Grandma's chocolate cake gave me an upset stomach the two times I ate it and I think it's because the cakes are left at room temperature in the Horizon - this partifular cake's frosting always seemed melted due to the lights and room temperature. Entertainment: I expected better and only saw two shows they were that bad to us. Also not enough seats for everyone in the theater. Cruise Director: Some people loved him - we did not! He was a little bit too much for us and not so professional. Guest Service Desk: Tired. No hello or thank you. No enthusiasm. Tour Excursions Desk: Tired. Attitudes. Excuses. Staff in public areas, Horizon Court: Like others have mentioned, the staff on the ship were tired looking, like they are on their last days before their breaks. No smiles, enthusiasm, or eagerness to help or do their job. Their supervisors not doing their jobs, but rather conversing in small groups. Port Destination Presentation: Sorry, but we did not like Vicki the destination"expert". She had trouble reading her notes and mispronounced people and places a LOT. I would remove "expert" from her title. Again, some people liked her, others including us did not and think Princess could have done better with presentations. Ports: We had many late arrival/departures from ports and given excuses from ship staff. Buenos Aires turned out to be a mess and all excursions were cancelled as we arrived too late into port. Loading of supplies at ports took too long making our departures late. Princess again? I don't know. Will have to be a really good deal, as this cruise did not meet our expectations. Read Less

We have sailed 21 cruises with Princess and over 200 days total and the only two times we have been truly disappointed have been on the Royal Princess. The first time the Royal was new and we had sincere major concerns over the lack of mid ship stairs and mid aisle stairs in the theater both of which we considered safety factors. To Princess credit we discovered they had corrected both of those issues so we decided to try the Royal again for a 2 week cruise.. We are Elite level and have paid for a mid ship mini suite cabin for all but our first cruise. Therefore, we are entitled to and have come to expect excellent and extra special service. Unfortunately that was not the case on this latest Royal cruise. Your cabin steward is probably the most key factor to maximize your enjoyment. Ours was the worst we have ever had and if he had not advised us that he was leaving to go home to the Philippines at the end of our cruise we would have asked for a change and for sure would never have accepted him as a cabin steward in the future. Instead we expressed our displeasure by providing Princess feedback on their survey and for the first time in 21 cruises not giving our cabin steward a large extra tip. However, his was not the only poor service we received. Repairs to problems in the cabin took 2-3 calls and days to correct. Laundry took 48 hours to be returned despite only 15% of the passengers the first week being Elite and 35% the second week. Misinformation was provided by the front desk on two occasions. Traveling companions who paid for very expensive cocktails advised they could hardly taste the alcohol. We were not able to trade our beer in the mini bar for a beer of the same price (Dos Equis for Blue Moon). These are the examples I noted but there were more so we won't be sailing on the Royal Princess again. In addition, Princess has made overall changes we are not happy with and we have provided them this feedback. The specialty coffee card which cost $35 plus entitles you to 15 special coffees. In the past it was a punch card and if you did not use all the punches you could save it and use them on a future cruise. That has now changed and your room key is used for the 15 coffees and if you do not use them all you cannot carry them forward or get a refund on the unused number. On the last formal night they used to offer broiled lobster and prawns and it was delicious and a highlight of the onboard dining. That has changed to a tasteless lobster tail..not broiled or buttered..on a bed of what looked like green risotto which had more taste than the lobster. In a mini suite you have 2 TVs. One in the living room area and one in the bedroom area and you used to get 2 remotes. Now you only get one remote. Beach towels used to be provided in the room. Now you have to go to the pool area to get your own or remember to pick them up on your way off the ship if you have a water type excursion. A heavy leather pad used to be put on the beds to unpack your luggage and then again to pack it. Those pads are no longer used. We have already booked another cruise for January of 2020 on the Sky Princess and we are hopeful that our feedback on this cruise will be noted and most if not all items corrected before we go on that one. However, we have done 2 cruises on Celebrity and have had no problems with either so we are going to give them another try as well. Read Less

We chose this Cruise for the itinerary and the "reputation" of the Cruse Line. A lesson in not believing in their own PR! They failed in every aspect of their published standards. Dress Code in main dining venues simply ignored by management (i do not blame the guests) Food was rather Hit & Miss. The constant interruptions as the waiting staff are made to up-sell either drinks or substituting something at a cost, during every course of the meal absolutely spoiling the so-called experience Guest Services - poor. Having pre- booked Flowers, it took three visit over three days to make it happen (flowers done after four days). Tour Concierge, I approached to inquire for some information, as soon as it became clear that I was not booking, she just was not interested. I had to regularly clean the seating on the balcony and wipe down the balustrade, as it became grime from the sea spray (the glass had not been cleaned for weeks) Entertainment was very poor (With the exception of the productions in the Princess theater) the Vista lounge was seldom in use, over the two weeks. Programming (and Menus) repeated on a seven day cycle. Sea Days: The Cafe & restaurants around the Atrium became overcrowded as guests would either remove seats or "move in" for several hours reading books or playing card games!, preventing gusts who actually wished to dine from being seated. Management simply did not discourage this selfish behavior, again I hold the ships management responsible. Disembarkation - they just want you off the ship (in my case 07:50) having booked a shore excursion which would have dropped us at the Airport, bur they canceled the tour. First & Last Time Read Less
