When it's all said and done, I would strongly advise no sailing with Princess. While our destinations were beautiful (Mexican Riviera), the experience onboard was - at the end of the day - really bad. The good things: - easy boarding, easy disembarking - all staff are kind, prompt, and trying their best. - decent pool setup. good for swimming. - lotus spa has a very luxurious turkish bath Now the problems: - slow internet. 1995 slow. you can't do much. and you pay a large amount. - the food is the worst I've seen. lowest of the low. borderline prison food. you can't get decent quality food unless you pay $30 at dinner. think watery eggs and square cheese bad. My family felt ill most of the time. Fast-food is better quality, i kid you not. - ship doesn't have decks clearly marked. you think they would have figured that out. - the medallion thing is a scam. mine didn't work. got it replaced. resolved nothing. - there's a gigantic TV on the top deck blaring prescription medication ads (really guys?) - bad elevator music follows you e v e r y w h e r e you go. bring earplugs. - my room had broken balcony door which made wind gust loud at night - poor alcoholic drinks! decent selection but no one made a good cocktail. - NO! DRINKING! WATER! - was dehydrated the entire trip (i'm 33, in shape). They do sell $4 bottles of water as room service only. There's also tap water that tastes like you're drinking laboratory chlorine. They use this at the restaurants/cafe. - ship was rerouted. lost time at destinations and there was no compensation for that. - entertainment is a mixed bag. the stage productions: terrible! but trivia a good laugh. - medical station charges $100 to see a doctor. sold me a $14 bottle of rubbing alcohol. This is the worst cruise I've taken, hands down. I'd say look elsewhere - there are some very special cruises out there. This is bad for families and couples alike. Good luck and hope this helps! We have had a good experience with Princess before on the Crown Princess so chose Princess again. Also read about "the medallion" experience and thought it sounded really cool so wanted to try this ship and it is a newer ship as well. The embarkation process was very smooth, we had our medallions mailed to our home so that made the boarding process even quicker. It took no more than 1/2 an hour after we parked our car and we were on the ship! Load the "medallion class" app on your device and you'll be a step ahead when you're on the ship. We both thought this was the nicest ship we have ever been on (this was cruise #12) and kept so very clean. The buffet area was very well thought out in design, very large and easy to maneuver through even when crowded. There was plenty of seating as well. The buffet food was wonderful and so many choices. The main dining rooms had great meals too and we ate there most of the time. The pizza place called "Alfredos" was nice and usually not busy. There was another pizza place out on Lido deck by the pool, a spot for grilled burgers and a soft serve ice cream place. I was pleasantly surprised the swimming pools were heated! Our favorite pool was the Retreat, an adults only area. We chose a balcony cabin on deck 16, Lido deck because we like being in close proximity to (free) coffee in the morning, the pools, and the buffet. No stairs or elevator to hassle with. Some will say you can get coffee on deck 5, well yes you can but you have to pay for it. Another really fun treat was getting the balcony champayne breakfast! It was much better than I expected, all kinds of breakfast goodies. It's $45 for 2 people. Our cabin steward Mario kept our room nicely refreshed, in fact the whole ship was kept super clean, I know I said it was clean before but had to repeat! I also enjoyed the fitness center, countless treadmills, really nice newer ones. There also were eliptical and bikes to work out on, and free weights as well as weight machines. I liked how they had the ping pong tables in a netted area (helps with runaway balls) and up by the sports deck area. There were also many, many lounge chairs by the pool area and other areas away from the pool. It was just the 2 of us adults on this cruise and we appreciated the Retreat pool area, thank you princess for providing that! We are looking forward to our next Princess cruise! Read Less

We booked this cruise almost 18 months in advance. My husband and I were so excited to go on this cruise. Embarking the ship was so easy, the employees guiding us were so nice and courteous. The cabin was very clean and pretty spacious. We had a deluxe balcony and I loved being able to sit outside with a little privacy and just relax to the sound of the water and beauty of the ocean. The ship is beautiful, golden and glass fixtures everywhere. It is really impressive. We booked two shore excursions, one in Puerto Vallarta and one in Mazatlan. They were both good and I recommend the beach excursion in Puerto Vallarta. We were bussed to a resort where we were able to sit under a large umbrella on the beach. We had our choice of infinity pool or ocean to swim in. The outdoor resteraunt at the resort serves the best fish tacos. We actually lost time in Cabo because of issues with speed on the ship, something with the generator. We were supposed to be at port from 11am to 8pm, we ended up porting from 6am to noon. It didn't even seem worth it to me to get up at 4am to get dressed and ready to disembark by 6am. I was really disappointed and felt like we got cheated out of this port. This was disappointing to say the least. The entertainment on the ship, in my opinion was terrible. It was boring and dry. There was no "adult" entertainment as far as I was concerned. I expected the entertainment to change from G rated to at least PG13 at night. This ship seems to cater to an older crowd of people, and the music was also horrible on deck. They played the Tommy Dorsey band on loop at the adult pool and I wanted to fling myself onto the lower deck. Alot of activities during the day had to do with back pain, foot pain, neck pain, etc. I'm on a ship to have fun, not get diagnosed. My husband and I are in our early 40s and would have liked to have seen and heard a better variety of music, shows, and activities other than chinese herbal remedies for hemorrhoids (I made up the hemorrhoid part). The Medallion App that they are so proud of is a gigantic waste of time. The app was down from Saturday until Wednesday on the Android app. We couldn't see what was going on unless we walked to a board near the elevators. Also they spoke so highly of the journey experience to see where the ship was, this portion of the app never worked on our Android phones. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing knocked our socks off, not even the Captains Grill. We paid extra for this experience and it was nothing to write home about. I had lobster here and actually ended up getting sick. After losing every bit of substinance in my body, I was finally able to stop sweating and get some rest. Terrible experience. My experience with the staff was also not a positive one. I usually bring 150 with me to tip above and beyond my prepaid gratuity. I am from Las Vegas, and we tip people when they do a good job. Needless to say, I have 130 bucks in my pocket. The only person I tipped was my steward. He was fantastic. My experience with the employees were that they were unhappy and maybe overworked. We didn't ask for any unusual requests. We are usually pretty self reliant. But when I speak to someone and say good morning, or hello, I do expect a nod, smile or a hello, some kind of acknowledgement. Apparently this is too much for the majority of them. I cant tell you how many times I walked up to a bar or a coffee stand to order something and was completely ignored. After a while I got tired of having to ask the person manning the counter to help me, so I gave up. Also, the Princess Live bar was the same. The bartender was making a drink doing some pretty fancy stuff with his shaking and pouring, and my husband said "wow, you reminded me of Tom Cruise in Cocktail". The bartender responded under his breath out of earshot, so I called him out and asked him to speak up. He turned his back to me and said something I could not hear, so I again asked him what he said. At this point he ignored me and pretended like we weren't there. My opinion is that some of their employees need to go through some extensive customer service training on common courtesy. This being said, I had more fun on a 4 day carnival cruise for a fraction of what I paid for this. I realize it is the same company, but it's obvious to me that customer service on the section 8 carnival cruise is way more important to those employees than the Royal Princess employees. I don't think I will be cruising with them in the future. Read Less

Other friends were taking the cruise and it was easy to get there as we all live in Los Angeles was one of the main reasons for taking this cruise. The ship was the best one I have been on and I have taken 4 cruises before this one, Alaska, Mediterranean, Baltic and Caribbean. The entertainment and the theater were exception on this trip, from the singer/dancers who performed 3 different shows to the comedian and guest singer who were both amazing. The sound and lighting system in the theater is state of the art. The ships decor is are very beautifully done. We had an interior cabin which is always too small but if you want to save money it works for a 7 day voyage. The dining room waiters were absolutely exception people, they really were a pleasure to see every night and attended to our every desire. One of my friends would order 2-3 main course every night! The food was very good and some of the dishes were superb, but I did get a case of diarrhea on night which was not much fun. I think cruise ships in general need to do a much better job with food safety and this is one reason I do not take more cruises. You can get food illness anywhere but cruise ships are notorious for this problem so just beware. The ambiance of the ship was great, the pool ares, the gym and the open feel of this ship was really nice. Read Less

While this is only my first cruise I would have say I am disappointed in the overall experience. On arrival I had no idea on what to do or where to go. As a first time on a cruise, I would have thought there would be an orientation session to assist those who are first time on a cruise. Gratuity was automatically charged with no ability to decide on whether it was earned or not . To me gratuity is a reflection of service meeting or exceeding expectation. There were a few occasions I felt this was not the case. I brought the concern on 2 different occasions, once to the service desk and while was told someone would get back ,no one did. Follow up emails also have had no replies. Additionally, I had ordered some items for my wife to be delivered on the Sunday . When I called was told would be delivered later in the day which was not what I requested. Next I was asked why I had not called. Why? I had preordered these items On first day ,had to locate the dinning area as no real indication. When arrived was told there was a 45 minute wait and person stated was not taking names for a wait list. The other room was not open and person stated it was first come first served. Only after further investigation I would found out ,could make reservations. Again it would have been nice if had been advised such as part of an orientation. Overall pricing for services and some of the tours were expensive versus what was being offered. Food provided as part of breakfast and lunch was tasty and great variety of dishes ( Deck 16) Staff in this area were very attentive to serving juice and coffee and for the most part we very friendly. On board shows in the Princess Theatre were definitely a great experience and well worth seeing and in my and my wife’s opinion the best part of the cruise. The excursions were something to participate in ,but important to look at the details of the tour ,as some are nothing more than shopping time versus trying to experience the local culture. Onboard staff were friendly enough ,however no one went out of their way in meeting our needs or addressing concerns. A true customer experience should exceed customer expectations Read Less

Our anniversary. Very disappointed with the ship and quality. Princess used to be our favorite after 10 cruises with them. Not planning to cruise with them again. Everything seems to have changed seems like only interest in nickel and dime you for amenities the gave in the past Much prefer the older ships. Restaurant food was only average. If you asked for additional entree were charged additional $19.00 Specialty restaurants not worth the money. Better food in the Buffett seems like not enough help in the dinning rooms or on the main showroom couldn’t find anyone to order a drink . Balconies in the mini suite so small not enough room for 2 to use the lounges. Overall very disappointed. WiFi expensive and had to continue to log in all the time. Not surprised if they start charging for luggage cut the shire visit to Cabo to 4 hours Continually annoyed by the people trying to take your picture Each bar had different drink menu every and price was different when you orders the same drink in one bar grey goose was the well. In the next bar it was kettle one in the next it was Belvedere. Sea food bar had good oysters but the sushi was pre cut came in plastic bag not wonderful. Again another charge to eat there. Read Less

Too many awful experiences to list here, but I will start off with 2 things. It started right after leaving the port in L.A. (San Pedro) Ship security held my luggage (my wife received hers upon boarding) for 8 hours after boarding the ship for a portable hand held steamer for wrinkled clothes finally releasing to me after the luggage was opened examined and then expecting me to drag it across the ship through all the people. I know this sounds petty but it was our first cruise and was worried the luggage was lost after many calls to guest services only to get nowhere with them. Secondly the ships 1 of 2 engines broke down which forced the ship to a slow speed to the first port which they did not make in time which forced the cruise to reverse the ports after the ships engine was rebuilt. The whole back of the ship shook violently for 3 days at sea at slow speed and it also shook our 10 deck balcony room facing the back of the ship which lead to 3 sleepless nights in the room. And things only got worse after that so that's why I could be typing for hours about everything else that went wrong and bad with this cruise which was our first and LAST one we ever take. So if you like cramped spaces, lots of people and waiting in lots of lines to do things then cruising is for you, but not for us. Oh and by the way there is no sense in bringing a suit and tie to formal dining because NOBODY get dressed up, but we did and got glaring looks at every place we went. I have attached some pictures of one of the formal dining nights at sea. Read Less

Ship - Royal Princess, built in 2012. While not necessarily new, it was one of Princess' flagship vessels, and one of the most luxurious, if not the most. Cabin - we stayed at the Dolphin Deck, midship, balcony. We booked well advance (1.5 years ahead) to block this very desirable cabin. We weren't wrong. We did not experience any disturbance. Cabin was reasonably sized and centrally located. It was well appointed with a huge closet with hangers, in-room safe, big screen TV, sofa, hair blower, mini-fridge, toiletries, shower, sofabed, etc. Dining - recommend booking "scheduled dining hours (either 5 or 7 pm)". They will wait for you for 30 minutes before they give up your table. If you dont have a booked schedule, "anytime dining" is good on flexibility, but you may have to wait. You can order as many mains as you want. If you are still hungry, go to the Buffet restaurant for more food! Entertainment and Activities - so much to do! Check Princess' website for more details. Service - blown away by the level of service, which was consistently superior at all times. Tip: travel light. Do your laundry onboard for a minimal charge. No cash or credit card is required as all out if pocket expenses are billed to your "medallion" which is unique for each guest. Read Less

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing end of the year cruise. I have read quite a few reviews from people with quite a bit of complaints. First of all, the ship was beautiful. The crew does a fabulous job keeping it clean and maintained. I will also mention at this time that the crew were friendly and helpful. Steward would come in late morning, straighten up the room, put out a fresh bucket of ice and was there for anything else we needed. Nighttime turn down included some chocolate and all the information/itinerary for the next day. Our cabin was clean, and apparently passengers on this ship have not been on other ships when they complain about the size of the room. We stayed in a deluxe balcony room, which has a pullout sofa. Plenty room to hang all your clothes as well as a cabinet for your folded items. Everything about this room was standard for a cruise ship, so all the complaints about a room being "too small" and the balcony "only having 2 chairs" is how it is on all ships unless you pay for a bigger cabin. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we slept great. I did not hear any outside noise except people moving around the chairs on the deck, no big deal. We kept the AC/heat off and chose to keep our deck door open for fresh air while we were in the cabin. There was a great selection of things to watch on tv when you needed to relax a minute in your room. The complaints about the elevators were not really a thing for me either. I booked a room on deck 15, towards the very back. We would go from the front of the ship to the back very quickly by just going up to the first deck that was staterooms and walk through the hallway until we were to the last set of lifts. You can move very quickly from front to back by doing this. The only elevators that were crowded were the ones that were mid ship. Entertainment was fun, we like to participate in trivia games and "game shows" as well as watch demonstrations. Dining was really good in the dining room, the buffet did tend to have same items at breakfast, but, if you didn't eat one of everything everyday, you will be fine. Nobody seems to realize that there are over 3500 people onboard, how much food do you think they can fit? Also, I have been on ships that are constantly closing buffets after 2 hours to get ready for the next meal. This buffet is open 24 hours. They always have one side open with a ton of choices. Lastly, I enjoyed the medallion class. Made everything so easy. It was our anniversary and when we went to get a drink, the bartender told us to "hold on" and went and got us a bottle of champagne. So having all of our information on that one little token was great. Super easy to get into the room. Easy to identify us. I loved it. If you are thinking of going on this ship to Mexican Riviera, do it. My friend has been on this ship when it goes to Alaska. He loves it. Great vacation. Read Less

With only the Royal in port, easy to go around loop and park. Check in only slow waiting for security. Once through, it was easy to get on board quickly. Our cabin was ready and all was clean as expected. The ship is in very good shape, no problems with room or any place we went. Ate in dining room the first night, for some reason they had separated the table for four, so we ate alone. The food was good and no issues. But the next four nights we ate in the buffet. Since we had been on the Coral in October for 18 days, we did not care to eat in the DR with the same dishes we had before. The buffet was really good and lots of selections. Talked to a number of people that travel on other lines, and they all said good things about the ship and food. If anything, some dishes were not real hot when you get back to table. If one loves shrimp, there was sauteed shrimp at lunch and dinner. I liked that the buffet had items not seen before, the avocados with crab were great. The tropical fruits were good too. Ate one lunch at Alfredo’s Pizza, very good and the eggplant dish was good too. Only went to the Encore show, the cast did a good job, not rock n roll music, but fun to watch. Oh, did go to the Folklorico Show in Cabo, fun to watch. Did meet a person who worked in the post office I was at. Then meet a lady that had gone to our church. Small cruise line when you meet people you know. Did not play much in casino, charged $50 to room on first night. Next day machine said, card not accepted see desk. They said card was good in shops but not cleared for casino. Next day gave them another card. On the last day of cruise, still got same message. Went to desk and they activated my credit card. At least we saved money by not playing. Went diving in Cabo with Cabo Adventures, water was warm at 81 deg. Dove at Pelican Rock, bad visibility due to recent storm. They went around the point, saw whales. Dove into a huge wall of sardines and feeding seals. Very clear water on the outside of the point. It is always good to see the underseas view of ports I go to. Disembarkation was easy, we left at 8am and got home quick. All in all a good cruise, would go on the Royal again. Read Less

Great cruise for a short period. One of the nicest Princess cruise ships I have been on so far. We have cruised 15 times and 5 different lines. We had a Mini suite on the Riviera deck which was as depicted. However, the Princess line has gone to Mini Suites with balcony size equal to a standard balcony cabin. Overall the balcony was small. You could sit out there, but forget about stretching your legs. Dining room staff seemed a little disorganized and slow. That being said, the food typically came out warm to cold. We did visually and verbally hear altercations among the dining room wait staff. Dining selections are adequate if not above average. Buffet is.....a buffet. Food selection is very impressive. Tables were usually full but with good turn around and a hard working staff. Pool side pizza and BBQ is always great on Princess!! Entertainment is above par for a cruise ship. In fact, we were very impressed. That is rare as we live in Vegas and have access to amazing shows/entertainment. The singers on board are fabulous and the comedian was hysterical. Cruise Director is very good and his staff was always around trying to entertain everyone. The Sanctuary is amazing for those who want peace, quiet and a very upscale deck experience. The only negative thing I can state about the Royal Princess is that the back deck that is reserved for smokers is too big and a waste of precious space. Don't hate me smokers as I agree that you need a dedicated space, but the whole back of the ship is also a waste of space for you folk. This space on the rear could have a pool area also as they did with the new ship on the Royal class of the Regal and Sky. At the max, I saw 20 people utilizing the entire back of the ship. The casino in my opinion is too small. It is always jammed packed but I guess we are used to large casinos being we are from Vegas. You cannot go wrong with sailing on this ship. Get staff and time overall. Read Less

We chose this cruise because a travel agent put together a Child Star Cruise with Tony Dow, Jerry Mathers, Stanley Livingston, Paul Petersen and Kathy Garver. We also wanted to go to Catalina Island as it was on our bucket list. It was a whirlwind of fun. I was not too impressed with Ensenada, it was loud and dirty. We only went there as we had a luncheon with the Child Stars. But there is plenty of shopping. The Royal was big ship, but it never felt crowded. We did not have to wait in long lines for the buffet and could always find a table. Our cabin was clean and comfortable. The beds felt luxurious. The food and service was wonderful. So many activities to choose from. Catalina Island was a fun place to explore. We would do this one again. It makes a nice short getaway. This cruise is close to home and a nice getaway for a long weekend. We had taken the cruise to Santa Barbara and Ensenada for Valentines day last year and enjoyed it so we decided we would take a four day cruise every year if possible. We had an aft stateroom which was a great location but I would recommend a lower level than the Marina Deck. The bar above could look over our balcony so we did not like that. The service is always good on Princess and the other guest are always friendly. The food was more than plentiful and lots of activities if you wish to do some. Catalina is a gem. We just walked around the town but it is so quaint and so many cute little shops and restaurants. The comedian was awesome on the ship. We had seen AJ Jamal before and he is really funny. This was an amazing cruise. Perfect for a first time cruise or limited time available. This ship has been updated with the new medallion program. Which makes your moving around the ship so much easier. The nicest part was the crew used your name and the cabin door unlocked for you when you came up to the door. Our first port of call was Catalina. This is a tendered port. If you have not used a tender it is a small boat that took you to shore. We did not go over until after lunch and at that time it started to rain. The Princess crew offered hot chocolate and towels for that wet guests later in the day. Such an nice return! Dining because we were on the 15th deck right under the Horizon buffet we ate there every morning for breakfast. My advise walk around and see what they have before plating. It made it so much easier to know what we wanted without wasting a lot of food. Again creature of habits we like Concerto Dining Room and the amazing food for dinner we ate there every night. The staff's recommendations were always right on. Also check out the fitness classes that they offer on board. Very informative! Read Less

We choose this cruise because we could get on in Los Angeles and because of the duration. We really liked the medallion that we wore on our wrists at all times. Having the ability to text each other for free via the app was a game changer. Loved the comedian, A.J. Jamal, the singer, Jennifer Singer and the other productions that we saw. Food was okay. Dining room staff needs to up their game. We were in an inside cabin, and it was the first time my friend had stayed in an inside cabin. She now knows why my husband and I choose the inside. The ship was sparkling clean and inviting. The fitness center had everything one needed to work off the meals. It would have been nice to have a walking area on a lower covered deck. Too windy at times on Deck 18.It would also have been nice to have had the Zumba and Stretch classes at different times on different days. We wanted to eat in the dining room for breakfast after working out, but couldn't due to the breakfast dining room hours. Too windy at times on Deck 18. We don't do shore excursions with the ship, and having been to Cabo many times, we didn't feel the need to do more than hop off and get a massage. On the subject of massages, the ship prices for spa services are excessive. Even with their specials, way too much. Our next cruise is in January on the Caribbean Princess. I chose this cruise to take my elderly mother on a shorter cruise. I also chose it for the price and the way the main dining and other activities are all centrally located so she would not have to walk as much. Summary: The Dining was very friendly and accommodating, even when we didn't arrive on time. The food was mostly good. But the formal night did not not have the usual steak and lobster, instead just okay food on formal night. (I think lobster was offered on the first night but for an added cost). The cheapest bottle of wine was $55, and then they brought the wrong one, and since they had opened it, they would not take it back. There was a lot of upselling. The cabin was so small, (a mini suite) that we could not even get a standard walker through the door) The minis suite was smaller than a standard cabin on Holland America. The steward forgot to leave us any washcloths on 3 of the 5 days. Sometimes left us 2 towels for 3 people and other times 5 towels. However he turned out beds down daily and was otherwise OK, but none of those beloved towel animals. The beds were adequate, the couch bed springy and not too comfortable but an extra padding that we added ourselves, helped. Beneath the beds they stored a bunch of linens so we could not easily stash our suitcases. The toilet was had some glitchy flushing mechanism for several days but eventually stopped working all together and when called, they did fix within an hour. The door handle fell apart and they fixed it. We literally could not move a walker through the narrow door, which was a surprise. Disembarkation was the worst. They gave written information about tagging our luggage and setting it out the night before. When we did not receive tags, I called guest services and asked. She grilled ME for 10 minutes as to why I thought we were doing this and I kept telling her it was in the Princess Patter and the disembarkation instructions. She finally said if I wanted tags I HAD to come to guest services and do it myself since on 5 day cruises they don't usually do this. We did because with our elderly mom and all her equipment we did need help with luggage. So the next day everyone was taking their luggage and it was a bit of a fiasco disembarking and especially waiting on the elevators since no one could take the stairs with luggage. Also, several areas of the ship were not WC accessible so we could not participate in them at all. My biggest complaint is the poor communication. First on the phone, we were told yes we can get a WC on the ship. Then we were told no. Then on the ship we were told yes. So we did rent a WC for 20$ a day which help a lot! The Best parts: Super easy Embarkation. Very nice staff in the restaurants. Very fun dancing in the Piazza. The adult swim area is nice but in the windiest area of the ship. Read Less

We started in Phoenix and drove to San Pedro the day before our cruise. We were routed thru Yorba Linda and decided to see the Nixon Presidential Library. The stop was well worth it. We did the stay and cruise package at the Crowne Plaza. The staff there was great. The hotel is showing its age but it has the location. On cruise day I drove to the port and dropped our checked bags at about 9:30am. Went back and parked the car and waited till about 10:30 to check in. We just walked to the ship from the hotel. We had done the complete Medallion package and it actually worked! Check in was a breeze and we ended up walking right onto the ship. We were on board by 11:10. We had wanted to make reservations for the Chefs table and Winemakers dinner. It seems many of the crew had no idea what we wanted to do. We were told to go see the maître d' and he would be at Sabatini at noon. We just waited and had lunch at Alfredo's. When we checked at Sabatinis, we were told we had to call the dining reservations number to check on the 2 meals. We found out by this time, both were full and we would be notified if we were able to be included. We missed out on both so that was a lesson learned. Our cabin was B726. good location as the deck was in the middle of food or entertainment. The balcony was small but worked well for our needs. We had a great room steward, almost never saw him. We had a very entertaining comedian on the first night. The next night was singers and dancers with an operetta singer. We did not care for opera so we skipped that show. Next day was Cabo and we had a good Mariachi group preform. All of our cruises to Mexico and this was the first time we actually took in this type of show. We were not disappointed! Cabo was fun as it always is. Getting off the ship initially took about 3 to 4 hours to get most of us ashore. Tenders did run all night. We stayed out till dark and then went out again in the morning. The last tender from shore was noon and shortly after we left. We ate breakfast most mornings in the buffet and were very happy with the varied selections that were offered. We did the dining room breakfast one day and it was about what we expected. Food service and hot food. Dinners wer mostly in the buffet. We ate once in the MDR and were please with the selection. Again, good service and hot food. One night we dined at Sabatini's. This was the best meal we had on the ship. Our waiter was great and the food was delicious. Worth the charge. The cruise director and staff worked hard to keep everyone entertained. We attended a couple of trivia sessions and the Majority Rules show. This show was at the Princess Live location. This was a good location for a game that was not relying on teams. They did some trivia in Princess Live but it was awkward to have teams and work together in that room. We need 2 more Princess cruises to make Platinum and look forward to getting these done soon! This was our fifteenth cruise (my husband and myself) . We cruise with Royal Caribbean or Princess. We just wanted to go back to the Mexican Riviera as we haven't been in over twenty years. We also wanted to see the Royal Princess and experience a medallion cruise. It was also a birthday celebration for me even though my actual birthday was the day of disembarkation. We live 90 miles outside of Los Angeles so we just drove to the port, parked the car, and hopped on the ship. Embarkation was easy as we have come to expect with Princess. We got on the ship a little after 1pm as we realize now that the staterooms are usually ready after this hour. We can go directly there. On this cruise we noticed that we could go to the buffet or the dining room when we boarded instead of everyone being crammed into the buffet. I think there were a couple of other eating venues open as well. We always book the balcony rooms completely aft as we enjoy watching the ship's wake. We dropped off our backpack and went to the buffet for a bite to eat then toured the ship. In about an hour or luggage was already at our room so we unpacked and our cruise officially began. We don't do the dining rooms anymore, neither do we do formal nights anymore. We just like to grab a snack during the day and eat in the buffet in the evening. There's nothing wrong with the diving rooms or the formal nights, we've just been there, done that and prefer to remain casual. We like to play the casino but we found this one to be oddly shaped. Also, IMO they need to get more machines like land casinos and ditch some of the ones hardly anyone was playing like the old style quarter machines. Anyway, like I said that's just my opinion. Overall the Royal Princess is a nice ship with one of the prettiest atriums I've seen. The crew was excellent (kind of reminded me of the old days of cruising). The one negative I will mention is the buffet food. This is the first cruise since the buffet was offered on cruise ships that we were truly disappointed in the food selection. Also, our food was never hot, just barely warm. We decided to eat sandwiches from the shop next to the coffee shop or grab a burger and fries at the grill. We have A Princess cruise scheduled for next year, so we will continue to cruise with them. I would also like to add that we've never seen a more congenial group of passengers. Read Less

Anytime Dinning in the Concerto is on the downgrade. Also in the Horizon Court. What is going on? Four meals at Concerto and all were unimpressive or poor in Concerto. Crown Grill and Crab Shack were excellent. There were 800 kids on board and the staff allowed them into the hot tubs which is a health problem. Ship in good shape. Have been on the ship many times. Mini suite was just fine and service there as well. Room service very good. Stage productions were ok but Silk was a bust and I do not think anyone understood what was going on about a big white bird flocking around in Asia. Deck parties and Atrium parties seemed like a bust. Not like they used to be like. Why no balloon drop? We are Elite with 60 cruises and should know something is wrong. In my opinion Madallion apps did not work most of the time on my android phone...so I think it stinks. Internet worked great. Boarding and leaving excellent organization. Hotel and food managers had better get on the stick or this will turn into a Carnival like cruise. Read Less

This was a Thanksgiving cruise with the family. My husband & I did a B2B. We had been on the Pacific Princess earlier in the year (service was amazing). So this was definitely a notch down. Service extremely slow in the MDR, buffet crowded most of the time. Just little extra's that were left out-like after dinner mints in MDR. No free wine tasting, on the 5 day no captains party and they cut down the # of passengers for the MTP. On the Thanksgiving portion they didn't have enough staff for all the children so our niece couldn't get her kids in the programs on all sea days. I find this difficult to believe they didn't know how many kids would be on the ship. Had an issue in the cabin with something poking thru carpet--They resolved that within about 6 hours that was nice. Our cabin steward was great. But dining room ---took hours to get thru a meal--some of that could be they put all 12 of us at the same table rather than 2 tables. Read Less

My husband and I decided to take this cruise over Thanksgiving when a suite became available at the last minute. Our last cruise with Princess was not so good, so our expectations were low. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The ship was big with 4,000 passengers and refurbished. Our suite was not large, but it was at the very back of the ship (aft in ship lingo) so it had a large wraparound balcony. The suite had some large closet space and a very nice bathroom with a large shower and soaking tub. Our embarkation was a breeze because of the assigned boarding times and we practically just walked on without waiting at all. The piazza was large and bright and surrounded by cafes with lots of places to sit at tables. It was open to levels where you could watch all the activities from above. The food, in the buffet and in the dining room, was one of the only biggest disappointments for us. We are vegetarians (plant based diet) and the choices were very limited. In the buffet our choices ranged from mashed potatoes to French fries to roasted potatoes. In the dining room there was one vegetarian choice at dinner. We definitely saw how meat eaters would be very happy. One funny note was at the section at the buffet where a sign indicated that all the dishes there were vegetarian, there was a dish of bacon, next to a chicken dish and pork. We dined at Sabitini’s which was very good and mostly at Concerto club. There the wait staff were wonderful if the food was not so wonderful. We loved Marina especially, but all were absolutely terrific. We usually frequent the casino on our other cruises, but this one was not for us at all. We play video poker almost exclusively and there were only a few machines that required a ten dollar maximum bet. That and the cigarette smoke saved us a lot of money. We happily bought some lovely jewelry, enjoying tax free, and bought some art for gifts. On Cabo, we always go to the Office restaurant, located across from the pier on the beach by water taxi. We sit under the blue umbrellas with our feet in the sand and eat delicious guacamole. At Mazatlan, we got an excursion of Segway through the town. Our first time on Segways and quite challenging navigating through traffic, but the guides were excellent and it was really fun. At Puerto Vallarta, we got our own private car tour that we found off the ship and really lucked out with a lovely woman who lives in Puerto Vallarta and who drive us all around, to the mountains, jungle, town and villages for the day. And for a very reasonable price. We enjoyed watching all the fun activities in the piazza like the Zumba session and the dance competition. Disembarking was very easy and our luggage was available immediately. Very good cruise and highly recommended. Read Less

14th cruise with princess but first time on the Royal. Kudos to bar staff members Joanne and Svetlana at the wheelhouse and crooners respectively. They did an outstanding job and were very friendly. Also their male colleagues at the same bars were equally good – just can’t remember their names! Wait staff in the main dining room (Allegro 2nd seating) did a great job. Service was prompt and accurate. Particularly liked the retreat pool area. Very serene. Disappointed that the aft pool (outrigger bar) is not on the Royal but liked all other aspects of the ship. Ship was very active late evening and the musical entertainment throughout the ship was very good. The “Encore” show was the best cruise show I have ever seen on any cruise line. The singing was outstanding, particularly the opera singer Barbi who was exceptional. Didn’t really like the Magic Silk show. It was a bit disjointed and the music was monotonous with a constant pounding beat that became annoying after a while. The colors of the world show was good. I really liked the medallion system which was very slick but there are a lot of bugs in the applications which need to be ironed out. Also, it would be better if the ocean compass app is integrated into the main ocean medallion app. It was not made clear that the ocean compass app has to be installed separately. Embarkation and disembarkation was very quick with the knew system and not having to carry a card with you all the time and having it swiped made everything a lot easier. With the medallion, the bar staff know who you are as you approach the bar since your picture and name appear on their screen as you get close and after a purchase all they have to do is touch your picture and put in the transaction. We bought the wrist band which was very convenient. It's worn like a watch. Miss the adult pool at the rear of the ship (on most other Princess ships) but made up for it by having free access to the very serene, adults only retreat pool. None of the decks go right up to the bow of the ship. The food in the dining room was good. Wait service was excellent - prompt and accurate. The Horizon buffet was a complete surprise from what we were used to on other Princess ships. Fantastic selection of food. No crowding and easy to navigate. They had a country theme some evenings and we went for the German night instead of the main dining room one evening. There was a variety of real German sausages, schnitzels, chicken, sauerkraut and all the usual German favorites Read Less

My wife and I enjoyed this cruise. No pressure to purchase extras, but it had a lot to offer if interested. Great staff and although a fairly large ship it never felt overwhelming or in-personable. The Crown Grill was fantastic. The main dinning room was nice but the food was mediocre. However the bars, particularly Vines Wine Bar were fantastic. Very good entertainment, including movies under the stars which was a unique and fun experience. Loved the specialty coffee shop and choices. Gelato bar was pleasant surprise. Because of rough seas that day, we were unable to go ashore at Cabo San Lucas, but the ships staff mad up for it a lot with extra events and other fun things to do on board that day. Mazatlan was another pleasant surprise as I've always heard it wasn't a "safe" port, but we found it very nice and enjoyed a day at the beach at one of it's hotels. Of course Puerto Vallarta is always a great place to visit. All in all, a very nice cruise. Read Less

We selected this cruise for one reason only - to participate in the Monopoly slot tournament ($200K prizes, $100K top prize). We had anticipated at least an average experience in the casino. We are gamblers, along with the other 400 participants in this invitation-only event. The experience onboard and in the casino was average, at best. (0) In the end, we could not wait to disembark back at LA. After five days of the experience detailed below we had had enough. Never again! (1) Overcrowding - how others can state that they don't feel overcrowded on this ship makes me wonder if we sailed on the same vessel. The elevators were constantly jammed full (all were in working order) except for the wee hours of the night. 5-10 minute waits to cram on an already full elevator car were normal at peak times. What a turn-off. (2) Anytime dining in the main dining room was average. Nice staff but menu was subpar and nothing special (except for one or two evenings which offered steak and/or lobster). Buffet dining was average at best; overcrowded at most times and same menu each of the seven days. In fact it became quite boring quite fast. (3) Casino - I cannot say enough negative about our experience here. If you are not a gambler then please don't bother to read on. There are a total of 6 IGT Game King VP machines in the non-smoking area (10-coin), together with 4 multi-play IGT machines. No machines at casino bar. Only 4 additional in smoking area. The best game was 100/10/4/3 deuces; the double-double bonus pay schedule is 6/5!! Combine this with over 400 people competing for the same machines and we were done in a couple of days. Almost a joke. The layout often made it impossible to reach a machine without asking someone else to get up first. The usual mix of low-% payback video slots one would expect, although there was a decent selection of these. Table games were average; only one 3-card poker table open per night and this was constantly busy/full. Blackjack pays 6/5 - why bother. Casino was a complete turn-off and obviously a huge money maker for Princess. (4) Tournament - Poorly managed and organized. Ran behind printed tournament schedule every day by at least 60 minutes (if not more). At times total chaos in terms of knowing where to go/what action to take prior to next round. Game selected for tournament (Monopoly) highly skewed in terms of points to the very end of the round where you "randomly" get awarded an amount between 1 million and 10 million points. Your advancement basically came down to that last random bonus. (5) We are players - yet we were rarely offered any type of free beverage while playing in the casino. First time in our cruising history where this has happened. Our points earned were 10-50x those of most other players we saw in the casino. Why would I ever return to give Princess our casino business when we are not treated as players? (6) Ship design - No promenade deck. The have a deck named this, but there is no outside promenade available. Serenity pool on deck 17 was nice; quiet and peaceful. Nice interior design surrounding Piazza on deck 5 up through deck 7. Customer service desk on deck 5 adequately staffed. (7) Ports - no comment here. Cabos was a non-event due to weather which prevented tendering; we did not visit Mazatlan or P. Vallarta other than to shop for essentials which are easily accessible from P. Vallarta (nearby Walmart). Read Less

price and convenience, local cruise. Liked princess before and like mostly princess this time, but they need to get the bugs out of the medallion, worked great to get on board. Luggage was assume they where at room by time we got on board and went straight to room. MEDALLION worked part of time, getting on board was great but then lots of people didn't use it, so in the future when everyone uses it might not be so fast. I bought the internet package, wasn't worth it. half time didn't work, always waiting, and always dropping off. when it work was ok. Food was good, some times hard to find a place to sit, this is a problem with so many people. Went to formal night, they didn't enforce it!, also had to wait for a table 30 minutes, when we did get a table there where 8 tables I could see empty, cleaned and ready for diners, why did I have to wait? no problems on cruise except couldn't get off in Cabo, due to weather. PV was a bust they had only about a dozen tents in port to shop, if you wanted to shop need a bus or taxi to go into town. Getting off was great easy luggage and customs great. Would I go again, probably. It was still pretty good, no cruise is perfect. but good times out did the bad. Read Less
