We booked this cruise last minute (almost), two days prior. Got a great rate through CruisesOnly.com. OMG, what a great time we had!!! The ship is BEAUTIFUL, the staff is great, and the food is amazing (be careful, you'll over do it like I did and spend a night moaning in your cabin, missing all the fun activities and shows). My husband and I chose to renew our wedding vows on board. What a nice package they give you and the ceremony was performed by the personable Captain Nick Nash (thanks, Cpt, Nash!). Particularly noteworthy are Cruise Director "Matt O" (Matthew O'Brien) and Crooners Lounge star, Perry Grant. Both great fun personalities, high energy and talented. Matt is like a combination of "Where's Waldo," Austin Powers, and Pee Wee Herman! What a hoot! Perry is a multi-talented, comedic version of Liberace. However, about 7 days in, Matt was reportedly taken ill and "given the night off." But he never reappeared. We all hope he's alright now. If anyone knows what happened to him, we'd appreciate knowing. He is such a mensch (sweet dear guy). We had 6 people in our party (three staterooms). The cruise personnel at the main desk (Deck 5) were extremely helpful and accommodating. And also of note, a gentleman in charge of the Atlantis Submarine excursion on Barbados. Booking excursions on the RP ship, we could only book 4 of us on the 11:45 sub trip and one on the 12:45 sub trip, and one person could not get a spot at all. We asked on the dock, and at the very last moment, the Atlantis excursion manager tried and was able to finagle seats for all 6 of us on one trip, making us very happy! All in all, a beautiful, memorable vacation of a lifetime. Read Less

The ship was always very clean, especially our suite. All of the common areas were neatly maintained. the waiters were always asking what they could do to help us. The staff in the buffett were constantly roaming with the pots of coffee and orange juice in the morning.. They always had a smile and pleasant greetings. The food was of a high quality with many choices. The choices were numerious and varied. Entertainment was most enjoyable each night; There was a variety of musical choices, something for everyone. The entertainers were of a very high quality.. The gentleman who sang like Nate King Cole was so in tune with the audience. He looked like he was enjoying performing as much as the audience was. The evening that the soporano was part of the show was excellent.. Every singer who performed had an excellent voice. My husband and I .enjoyed our ten days on the ship to the fullest. Read Less

Royal Princess – Dec 10-20, 2017 Southern Caribbean This was our 2nd time doing a Caribbean cruise in December and it did not disappoint. Prices are low in December and the ship is already decorated for the holidays which we enjoy. We began the trip with bad weather in Detroit, delaying our flight by over 3 hours. When we arrived in FLL Princess was busy rushing folks to their ships departing that day so we had to sit over 1 hour to get our arranged transport to the Embassy Suites. We liked our stay at this hotel, but the included transport to the port the next day was disorganized and late. We didn’t get on the ship until 1:30 and missed the embarkation lunch in the MDR. Next time we will skip the pre-cruise package from Princess. Amber Cove: This was a pleasant surprise. We used a bicycle taxi to get from the ship to the Amber Cove entrance for a $5 tip. We spent several hours swimming at their lovely pool, relaxing on the new loungers and drinking local beer. We were not charged for the loungers and for another $5 tip we were biked back to the ship. St. Thomas: The hurricane damage was visible from the ship. Senior Frogs and other nearby shops were closed. Due to the intense heat we decided to stay on the ship and enjoy the pool. Martinique: We were joined by cruise critic friends Jodi, Steve and Marci to use Karamboletours for a 4 and ½ hour tour. We had trouble finding Christelle our guide, but I had her phone number and a quick call made by a Princess rep solved the problem. We very much enjoyed our time with her visiting a waterfall, historic ruins and a rum distillery. Along the way we were treated to a number of local foods and drinks. Grenada: We again stayed on the ship to enjoy a peaceful pool day. Bonaire: We had booked a golf cart ahead of time from Bonaire Cruisers. This was our favorite stop of the trip. We did the Southern route and saw flamingos, wild donkeys, beautiful blue, green and pink (yes, pink!) waters along the way. We stopped at a beach bar for lunch, then at the Bonaire Gift shop for a bottle of wine to take on the ship. Curacao- We went to Mambo Beach with friends Jodi, Steve and Marci and had a wonderful time. The taxi was $5 per person each way, entrance fee of $2.50 each for seniors, then $3.50 each for a lounger. The beach and swimming areas were very clean and there was a ton of cute shops and restaurants. I would definitely return to this beach. Our time on the ship was filled with a nice mix of activity and relaxing. Zumba, line dancing, comedy, music, Stammtisch wine event in Vines, NFL games at the outdoor movie and the casino made the days fly by. We are very sad they are moving the Royal to the west coast and hope to get the opportunity to sail her again. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the combination of itinerary and cruise line. This was our 9th Princess cruise and second time on the Royal. Embarkation was a snap. A word...they told us to be there at 3...we got there at 1 and strolled right through check in and boarding. Food was very good. MDR was what we expect from Princess. Waitress was WONDERFUL. Buffet was, again, exactly as expected. Pizza and burgers terrific, as were the frozen coffees we got in the Piazza. We had a balcony dinner, and it was a real highlight of the cruise. We also had a Crown Grill dinner, which was also excellent. Entertainment was good, not great. Two production shows, one great, one boring. Three comics, marginally funny. The bands were usual cruise ship bands...nothing special but nothing bad. Activities, again, were exactly as expected. Got off at Amber Cove...beautiful port...very well done. Saint Thomas we just stayed on the ship. Martinique...we were going to get off, but because of where we were berthed, you needed to take a shuttle bus to the entrance to the cruise terminal...this required a numbered ticket, and about an hour of waiting time. Didn't want to see it badly enough, so we bobbed in the pool instead. Got off at the other ports and took shore excursions at 2 of them...very good. Disembarkation was super easy. We walked off with no line. The cruise line handled our luggage with the airline, and I would recommend this for all. No check in required at the airport and no shlepping or claiming you baggage at the cruises terminal. Princess transfers to the airport were perfect. This cruise was exactly as expected and filled our needs perfectly. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Read Less

The itinerary and everything about the cruise was great. The staff was wonderful, they couldn't do enough for you. Went to the dining room one night for dinner. Ate most of the time in the Horizon Bistro. There was so many choices, there wasn't anything you couldn't find. Ate in the Crown Grill. Didn't like that the Wheelhouse was part of the Crown Grill. The shows were great. Everything about the cruise was good. The itinerary was one of the best. We've never been to Grenada and Martinique. Took the Spice house tour in Grenada and enjoyed it. Martinique was another story. I had an independent tour booked. There were 7 ships in port that day and they were doing construction on the pier. You couldn't walk the pier, they had buses to transport you. That was a disaster. I went back to the ship and never saw Martinique. There's always a next time! Read Less

Love Princess - always consistently enjoyable. And love the Royal Princess, too. This is the third time we have sailed on her, including a recent 4 weeks in the Mediterranean. The food is very good. I've noticed over the years that the dining room service is a little slower but I think its because we do anytime dining and not fixed seating. The food at the Horizon COurt is great for a buffet - a lot of variety and something for everyone. Love the ship's ambience, the public rooms are comfortable. For a ship of this size I never feel crowded. I like quiet outdoor spaces too and the Royal has that in the Retreat pool area and also the rear bar and deck on 16. The rooms are nicely laid out but as on all ships they are not huge. We always take a balcony and enjoy spending time there. This time the bed was a little hard but usually its quite comfortable to sleep. Lots of storage. We are already planning our next Princess cruise for the spring! Read Less

We liked the ports and have cruised with Princess before. The food was mediocre but dining room service excellent. The ship is beautiful. We had a mini suite on Riviera which was roomy but balcony way too small. The entertainment was hit or miss but mostly miss except for singer and comedian at beginning of cruise. Their show Encore had its debut and that was really good. The ports and excursions were fine and guides were very informative. Except for Curacao which didn’t have enough seats on the trolley.. we couldn’t get a seat and Princesss will not refund our money. We were so excited for this tour that we were second in line at the pier. We were herded into vans for the travel to to town and our van came there last although we boarded first. By the time our van got there the only available seat was behind the driver and it was completely in the sun and didn’t have a seat back. Everyone else we seated on benches under a canopy. Once back onboard we went to the tour consultant and she got back to us with a “Sorry there is nothing we can do” They did nothing to compensate us and therefore I will not be traveling on any Princess, Carnival etc. ship again. I will stick with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean Oasis class! We were very disappointed in their treatment in this matter! I am still angry about this and it ruined my experience. NEVER AGAIN ON PRINCESS CRUISELINES. They don’t stand behind their tours! Read Less

We picked this cruise because of the reasonable price and islands to visit. We had a mini suite and our room was one of the smallest I have ever had. The balcony accommodated only one person at a time. Now that being said the cruise itself was wonderful with a great room steward, friendly and helpful staff, very good food with equally good waiter and assistant waiter, and being a photography buff, a good photography staff. We keep track of our cruises (over 30) with a picture of each port and when we mentioned this to the manager of the photo lab he arranged for us to have one taken and put into the background frame of the port we had missed. The ports were all good but the downside is, in Martinique, even the police do not speak English, making it impossible to converse with the locals and it was also impossible to find a cab, I wish I would have booked a tour instead of "doing it on our own". The entertainers were all good with the new production Encore excellent. All and all we enjoyed the cruise and would do, it in fact will do, the ship again, small room and all. Read Less

Even though we were on many Caribbean cruises, we had never cruised to the Southern Caribbean. It was exciting to go to new ports such as Grenada, Martinique and Curacao. It was also nice to visit six ports in a ten day cruise instead of having more sea days. The ship is lovely. The food was delicious and I was impressed with the variety of foods available. Being a vegetarian, it is sometimes difficult to have a lot of choices but there was no problem finding something to eat at all meals. For the most part, the entertainment was first class with some excellent entertainers. And Matt, the cruise director, was the best. His wit and energy are just amazing. As my husband said, he could be a comedian. The gym has plenty of treadmills and other exercise machines so there was never a problem. All in all, we would give this cruise an A! Read Less

We have cruised Princess several times over the past few years. We always stay in a suite and purchase the unlimited beverage package. This year we did back to back starting the December 10th, so we were on board for 20 days. We were disappointed, to say the least. We have sailed Christmas weeks before, so we knew it would be crowded. However, Princess really disappointed us with regard to their beverage package changes. Only small bottle of water are now included with the top-tier drink package, and not included at all with the soda package we purchased for the grandkids. Also, no more soda cans, only fountain drinks. For our family, when we ordered sparkling water at dinner, we had to be served from individual bottles instead or large ones, even though we all had beverage packages. Since we go to the gym in the morning, we had to go from bar to bar collecting water for the morning- ridiculous! Club class dining was a joke, just a tiny corner in the Concerto dining room. The staff could not have cared less, totally unengaged. As someone else mentioned, the most interesting shows were held in the tiny Princess Live theater, which would overflow out the door. We will definitely look to cruise differently in the future. Read Less
