I have cruised before with carnival a great experience on Fantasy but this cruise on Ecstasy was terrible. The food was disgusting the only thing i could eat was Guys burger joint and ice cream. The ship and my room had a horrible smell like a septic tank. I was not given a bootle to open on the last nighth of the cruise the bar tenders were rude. The stateroom steward was awesome. The ride going was rocky and the entire boat was sick. No storms so I was confused why it was that bad. Icalled to report all my issues to carvial, I was told they would research and call me back based on this site everyone was complaining so unsure what you need to research. I havent heard from them yet.I read this was training ship no wonder it was horrible. I would never go on Ecstasy again!!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

Restaurants: Food was horrible. The Buffet(s) was closed almost every time I went to it (5:15pm, 7:15am, 6pm, normal times) The Guy's burgers were good but the rest sucked. I ate soft ice cream with a fork, got served a warm coke with 4 ice cubes, I had a flat iron steak that was as tough and tasted like a boot sole, the service was atrocious and I waited well over an hour in the dinning room for pasta which tasted like it was prepared 2 weeks earlier from a can. Bars: they close early so there's no way to get 15 drinks from you Cheers Package, there's not enough time in the day. You have an 18% gratuity included but if you don't tip, they aren't coming back. The Casino Bar stays open late but it's tiny and the only bar open so it takes even longer to get a drink. Shows: I'm not big on shows but most people we talked to liked them generally. Princess Cays, Nice, beautiful, same crew as the ship so service was bad and we had to pay for all drinks and tips and the lunch was long line and dry hamburger (1). Ship: Nice weather and smooth till we headed home and with a 60 mph wind we go tossed around. Boarding and Debarkation was fairly easy. I will never, ever, never set foot on the Carnival Ecstasy again, Read Less

We cannot tell you how excited we were to leave on 1/6/19. We were eloping, taking our first cruise, and my soon-to-be husband was leaving the country for the first time. His name is Brandon. That'll be in important here in a second. We get ready on the morning of the 9th for our wedding and go to the library to have our ceremony. The officiant is reading a manual on how to perform weddings when we arrive. That's a little odd but whatever, we get it. Wanna stay sharp. The ceremony begins. The officiant seems nervous but heck, so are we! He talks about marriage for a minute and then launches into the canned vows... my fiance and I have brought our personalized vows with us written on cards. We both stumble through the generic ones thinking ... maybe ours will go after that? What is happening? Then the officiant calls my fiance JUSTIN and we both look at each other. Something is very wrong. He then has us bow our heads and starts a prayer. Neither my husband or I have any problem bowing our heads for a prayer at other ceremonies. We however never approved a prayer for our own wedding day and certainly wouldn't have approved THIS ONE. Is it too much to ask to just be given what you paid for on your wedding day? Before we left for the cruise, the wedding planner and I had a very clear email thread where the details for the ceremony were mapped out. They weren't anything special but they were what we wanted; we were an easy couple! At no point did anyone even ask us about a prayer. I was even sent a script for the generic wedding that I edited minimally and sent back - at their request. Why did I go through any of that if they weren't going to use any of it?! Later, when we were back in our room and had recited our ACTUAL vows sitting beside one another on the bed, my husband said that during the middle of the ceremony, once he could tell there had been a mix up, he wanted to just interrupt and say "can we just do the pictures so we can go?" I completely understood what he meant. It felt like a bad dream. So we get home, and I send a colorful email to the carnival wedding team ON THE SAME THREAD where all of our instructions for the wedding were approved in clear detail, and let them know that something went very wrong. They offer me a couple hundred dollar refund for the officiant's service, which was clearly botched. Yeah, our ceremony was something out of a bad romantic comedy, but i'll just take a couple hundred bucks instead of a full refund for our wedding. Sure. So, they tell me a resolution team will contact me within 7 business days. I wait. Those business days come and go. No one has contacted me. It's been weeks. I reply on the active thread demanding they at least give ME the email address of this illusive department that was supposed to contact me. Crickets. This is a nightmare. I have yet to hear anything back. So, in tears today, I filed my first ever better business bureau complaint against Carnival. If you had told us. before our wedding, that we'd be sitting on some BBB website, filing a claim against the company that would perform our wedding, I would have laughed. I'm the type of person who would rather keep something I don't like than deal with the hassle of getting a refund. So, I do not recommend carnival cruise line for anything purely based on their indifference to handling what is a truly sad situation for my husband and myself. But also because the food was completely underwhelming, the bed in our ultra fancy suite [literally the nicest room we could purchase] was two twin beds pushed together where they slide apart if anyone tries to lay remotely close to the center - just what we were hoping for on our honeymoon, because there was cigarette smoke wafting into different non-smoking and unavoidable areas of the ship at all times, and because the entire trip felt like a weird upsell designed to get us to spend more money. One positive: the staff that maintained our rooms was SUPER kind and personable and did an amazing job Read Less

This is our second trip on the Carnival Ecstasy on the Rivera level (4th Floor) with a portal ocean view.. Upon arriving at the port we were charged $20 per day ($120) parking though last trip they provided complementary parking with my Military ID. They commented that they never offered a military discount..(I must be nuts, right?) The Terminal - Entering the terminal we were quickly greeted and given big smiles by happy staff members quick to offer a "Happy New Year" as this was New Year's Eve. We were impressed by their quick wit and great attitudes. We had an 11am boarding and we were on board by 11:05am.. Great News!! The ship - was decked out for the holidays and the atrium was beautiful! Shortly after boarding staff were serving up free champagne! A New Years Eve treat.. Yay! It's a classic pretty ship with plenty of nostalgic looks, neon and a feel of ole grandeur. but despite a recent dry doc seem to be really showing her age. I really wish they had upgraded the same old tire hot tubs at dry-dock.. No consistent temps, jets were weak and guards missing on the bottom and sides.. The Bad: Everyone said it was the worst smelling ship they had experienced. I heard it on elevators, bars, casino, pools etc... I did notice and it was bad, but I've gotten used to a tolerable smell level on ships by now.. but it was bad.. The Cabin - We made our way to our cabin and BAM!! it was ready!! Yes!! all going well and as planned! The cabin looked good but only a King and a trundle ... we were a group of four..?? In short order in speaking with Guest Services they installed what look like an aluminum gurney (like an ambulance gurney without legs) small frame bed on the floor... Weird right, but ok.. my Kids were game.. The bad: the drains failed, room smelled uck!!! nasty.. No Fridge, and I had to pull away from the blackjack table to figure out if my kids would be charged for a PB&J sandwich as the new room service charges/rules are crazy! I'm sure that's covered elsewhere on cruise critic! Dining - Having spent nearly half a year at sea I've eaten in quite a few Dining Rooms and in fact I've been in this very dining room before.. but this table was crammed so tight and elbow to elbow that I thought I was in a airline coach seat. It was so contentious just to get your elbow up to eat that we gave up and left..Not to return. They said they were full and sorry. Food - Spend the $20 up-charge and get the Surf and Turf (Wonderful!!) The rest was, well.... let's just say "Carnival Food"..Enough said? Entertainment - Comedian John Mulrooney was very good! Go see his show! Excursions - We did the DeepSea fishing it was fun and the Kids luved it!! Same with the parasailing! SPA - The Spa Manager (Razvan ?) was great.. He probably was one of the best spa managers I've seen on ships.. He went out of his way to ensure we had great service.. We used almost all of the services, my son got a haircut, daughter a mani-pedi and facial for the wife... ahh and for me you ask? I did everything else. LOL.. yes try the Bamboo it's the best! The Casino - Slow drinks as usual, and no comp on the drinks and I've played enough to not care but only to say I should have been comped considering the level of play.. Halfmoon Key - really nice except the smell coming from the water park.. Smelled like the ship... Nasty .. Disembarkation - Went Great! Smooth... Summary: Will not repeat on this ship, looking at canceling 2 future bookings on Carnival. The nickle and diming is bad.. real bad.. Drinks were more, gratuity is more, parking is more, stores were more etc.. Read Less

We ran into bad weather the first two days which the captain stated he did not expect. Over half of our party was sick along with members who were working on the cruise ship. We were unable to do anything and spent both days sick. The ship was not equipped to handle the bad weather. Captain should have taken us somewhere else. Vomit was in the halls, elevators, and dining areas. Worst cruise for Thanksgiving ever and it was our first family cruise with over 18 people. Ship did not have lip sync battle and activities that were postpone were never reschedule. Food was like cafeteria food. The Chefs Table served the exact same menu as the Carnival Fantasy in Mobile, Alabama which we traveled on in 2016. Nothing was different from the appetizers down to the dessert. For almost $200 it was a waste of money for the same experience. The only good thing was Roy who was our cabin steward. Nothing special about this ship very outdated. Customer service did absolutely nothing when I filled a complaint for our group. After a year of planning this family vacation it was a waste of time and money. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the time that was allotted to staying in Bermuda. It was changed and we were cheated time on the island. The only reason I booked the cruise was for the time I was told we would be there which was changed and I do not know why. We had a balcony room. The first night something sweeked all night. I reported it woke up the next morning it was still sweeking. Told the cabin staff person he went and found it. It was a door left ajar. The next night the people in the cabin had a huge argument at 4 in the morning which last for an hour and half. One evening the room smelled so bad that I literately thought I was going to lose my dinner. We were in a cabin in which the room attendant never put up the bunk beds so we literally had one chair and one stool for four people. I had to move my bed to the middle of the floor at night because I thought if it as a jail cell. (Not that I know what that really feels like). I am a gold member so this was not my first cruise, but may be my last on Carnival. I am going to file a complaint. No one on our bus going back to parking lot said they wanted to return when asked by the bus driver. This ship needs to be docked and Carnival needs to refund passengers money for this cruise!!!!! This cruise was supposed to be 3 days docked in Bermuda. It was the entire reason we booked this cruise in the first place so we could take our time on the island. The itinerary was consistently changing and eventually we ended up with one full day and 2 extremely short partial days. My wife and I ended up spending more money on excursions and having less time to actually enjoy the island (like we originally paid for) No one on the crew really even acknowledged our concerns or offered "anything at all" to try to make it better. I would think it was maybe just my personal thoughts alone, however, virtually every other passenger I came in contact with was complaining about the same thing. I have been on 6 Carnival cruises in the last several years. I generally don't bargain shop for cruises... I see a cruise I like and I book it. Carnival has been my go-to in the past, however this last experience has caused me to start looking elsewhere for future cruises. The sad part is, that for the most part the crew was as expected... the food was as expected.... the entertainment was as expected but the fact that the itinerary was drastically changed.... and then.... there were no apologies from the crew, nor was there really any acknowledgement that this may negatively impact peoples vacations. Its as if everyone tried to sweep it under the rug. That's the part I have the biggest issue with. It has caused me to lose faith in Carnival. Sadly, my 5 previous cruises were great, but this last cruise will most likely be my last with Carnival. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it spent 3 nites in Bermuda. after final payment was made cruise changed from staying in port, to leaving at nite and coming back in the morning. my wife and I decided to check into a hotel for the three nites, whiched saved the vacation. now, about the ship. on boarding, the sewer smell was so bad and the stale cigarette smoke was awful. food on the ship was ok, but nothing formal.. you eat, you don't dine. service on the ship is marginal at best. no more free room service, no more having your room cleaned two times a day. however, they do let you choose morning or nite service. the ship is rusty and in my honest opinion, carnival needs to sell it or scrap it. furthermore they should probably do that to all of their fantasy class ships. if you are booked on the ecstasy, I would consider changing ships, if not, you were warned. I will book on carnival again, but not on fantasy class ship. no how no way!! Read Less

Safe to say after this I will never be on a Carnival Cruise again! Never, ever! Went on this cruise for my honeymoon + my husband and I were both highly disappointed. Disappointed is the understatement of the century. Would have been better off flushing our money down the toilet. Negatives: • Horrible food. Imagine Golden Corral gone terribly wrong, after an apocalypse. • Buffet was disgusting. The few other places to eat were closed at really strange times. Felt like we could never get food when we were hungry. Only things that were open 24 hours were the pizza bar (which served burnt pizza that’s taste reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria pizza) and the soft serve bar. The soft serve bar is not “soft serve” at all. It was more like ice with vanilla or chocolate flavoring which you could accompany with tiny little sugar cones. No toppings or anything. • Absolutely nothing to do on this cruise ship... aside from maybe Bingo? If you’re into that. The casino is small and as soon as you swipe your sign & sail card there is a $10 charge that gives you five credits. One mini golf course and one tiny ping pong table on the deck. Also an arcade, but that adds up fast. There’s is the occasional trivia. I never thought I could be bored on a cruise. I was wrong. (Remember, you’re sharing all these things with almost 3,000 other passengers) • There is one tiny pool for almost 3,000 passengers and two hot tubs. There is the Serenity Deck that seats maybe 35 people max, which fills up by 9:30 every morning. On the Serenity Deck, there are also only 2 hot tubs which stay completely full. • We bought the drink package but we were unable to get our moneys worth, or even close to it due to the VERY poor service. It took a MINIMUM of 15 minutes for any bartender to even notice us to take our drink order and another 10 for them to make the drinks. So by the time you’re able to get two drinks, an hour has passed. Service was absolutely terrible at all of the bars. • Decor is SO outdated, but that is minor. • Princess Cays — 1) the beach was TINY with lounge chairs packed shoulder to shoulder so you were unable to even enjoy the beach. Couldn’t take a nice walk or anything due to them crowding so many people on this island. But what could I expect considering this was also the theme on the cruise ship? 2) Carnival owns this island. You use your Sign & Sail Card at the bar, which is tended by Carnival employees. Your drinks are charged to your room, like all other purchases made on the ship. The automatic 15% gratuity still applies at this bar. But get this... your drink package does not apply on the island. My husband and I’s drink packages cost over $600 and you’re telling me that they don’t apply on the CARNIVAL OWNED island? Such a scam. I was disgusted. Spent an hour and a halfback here and went back on board. • One elevator was broken during the cruise, so only three by the state rooms were available for use. We couldn’t catch an elevator for the life of us. Had to take the stairs everywhere we went. This was not fun. • Waiters can’t take your drink orders during meals. They have to go get the “bar waiter” to take your drink order. Sat down for brunch and asked for a Bloody Mary and water. Waiter said they would have to get a bar waiter. Half an hour later... no bar waiter. I asked again. 45 minutes later and still no bar waiter. Finished our whole meal and ended up leaving without getting a drink. (Wow! What great use this drink package is getting, right?) • Music by the pool is deafening at all times. You’re not able to relax at all. I never want to hear another steel drum for as long as I live. • Carnival screams the word “fun” at you 24/7. The irony is that I couldn’t find one fun thing about this cruise. I think they say it so that maybe you will convince yourself that you’re having fun. Nope. • Nassau - not tax free shopping. Actually, 12% tax! Felt very unsafe here. Locals barading you at every stop to get a taxi or buy some Cuban cigars. Due to this we were unable to even walk down the street or shop. Finally escaped to a restaurant for a meal and drink. Got charged $40 for a large drink that didn’t have a drop of alcohol in it. Spent a total of two hours here. • Shopping on board was bad. There’s a jewelry store and another little store to buy knick knacks, flip flops, sunscreen ($15+), etc. Positives: • Smooth and quick embarkation and debarkation process. • The man who cleaned our room was wonderful and knew us by name. He made a point to say hello in the hallway every time when we walked by! • Guy’s Burger Joint was delicious. Only edible food on this cruise. But who can eat a burger and fries for 5 days straight? Moral of the story: please, please, please save your money. Do anything other than go on this cruise. Highly recommend Royal Caribbean! Only reason we cruised with Carnival was because we got married in Charleston and this is the only ship that leaves from this port. We were relieved to be LEAVING our vacation... something you should never feel. Read Less
