My wife with some of her friends selected this cruise after much research. It was a mixed bag. Embarkation and disembarkation was okay. We were a group of 8 adults and we had to split up because of poor planning on the part of NCL. They need to ensure that larger groups travelling together can stay together. The ship was clean and well appointed, and our room steward was nothing short of ...
About us: late 30's/early 40's couple without kids, traveling with my parents in their 60's.
We were on the Gem last summer and I was a bit disappointed... we had been on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas last January and I fell in love with the megaships. However, knowing better what to expect this time, I tempered my expectations to fit a midsize ship.
The staff all work incredibly hard ...
My family and I choice the Norwegian Gem based on the itinerary and length of the cruise (10 days). The embarkation staff were efficient and helpful. Room, an inside cabin, was of average size but laid out nicely. Our cabin steward, Joel, was attentive, friendly and helpful. We ate in the Grand Pacific main dinning room for most of our dinners. The food was very good and presented nicely. We also ...
We were on the Breakaway in November 2016 during Jersey week and this was a totally different experience. The Gem had a lot less children on board than the Breakaway and our children never felt overwhelmed in Splash Academy during this cruise which took place over Ontario's March Break week. My biggest complaint is the ridiculous timing of the Tortola port of call, 7:00 a.m. to 12:30. NCL, ...
The 10 day cruise from NYC to the Caribbean aboard the gem was great! I had a 2 bedroom family suite on deck 11 which was perfect for a relaxing vacation. The butler, concierge and room steward were very accommodating, and helped every way they could. The priority embarkation and disembarkation reduced the stress normally associated with these times by totally eliminating lines. The specialty ...
Booked this cruise in late December as a last minute winter getaway. With gratuities, port charges and the Ultimate Beverage Package we spent $1900.00 for two people. We had never sailed Norwegian before (Celebrity, RCL, Holland America) and for a bargain basement fare we kept our expectations low and figured we could at least get out of the New England cold for several days.
We return from ...
loved the ship .did not like Manhattan Cruise Terminal very disorganized at the specialty needs area
my daughter ended up breaking her leg right before the cruise and was wheelchair bound. The wheelchair did not fit through the cabin doors! We had difficulty going down the hallway as the wheelchair and Stewart carts did not fit. We had to pull the carts down the hallway to an exit so the ...
My friend and I chose Norwegian based on our cruise to Alaska last year on the same line. We were very pleasantly surprised by the size of the mini-suite, especially the spacious bathtub and shower. The staff and crew were all wonderful and made us feel pampered from morning to night. The nightly shows were excellent - a great mixture of entertainment styles. Our only complaints were that the ...
Our experience was not the greatest.
Smoking on balconies, in front of entrances so the smell wafted into the main areas and the stench from the casino was appalling. The stench wafted in the theatre on deck six. Gross.
We walked out of the Magenta dining room before dessert. Our server was rude and quite frankly non existent.
The food was ok but not great. We did enjoy Le Bistro.
I ...
Our 2nd time on Gem and 3rd on NCL. Love the freestyle and have always loved it. Our 1st 10 day cruise and won't be our last, we loved it. The islands we went to were beautiful and amazing. The only excursion I won't recommend is Coral World. We've always been made to feel special and the staff had always gone above and beyond to please you. We had 4 wonderful meals at specialty restaurants and ...
