My friend and I booked this cruise last year while on MSC Seaside. I had been to most of the Far East ports, but my travel friend, Judy, had not seen them. We flew from Tampa to Toronto and on to Dubai enjoying business class all the way. One night was spent at the Dubai Marriott, and the following morning we taxied to the port. And there the problems began! There was a "time to board" listed on your information, but most of the 3500 passengers were already in the very crowded check-in area. Those in Yacht Club were given a place to sit and wait - we commoners just stood in line for nearly two hours. Not a good impression!. Once on board, we found our adjoining balcony cabins to be nicely furnished. I requested my duvet be replaced by a light blanket, and it was quickly done. My "bath tube" as noted on the reservation was a lovely large tub with shower - and all the really hot water one could ask for. Storage space was wonderful, and would have been fine for two guests in the room. The TV was mounted at ceiling height and quite small. We were out of range for English speaking stations much of the time, so it didn't matter too much. We had requested early dining, and found ourselves seated with folks who had limited English. We asked for a change, and were assigned to another dining room where we shared a table for six with an English couple and a couple from Australia. We had a grand time comparing countries and cruises for the entire 28-day cruise. Entertainment was based on opera most evenings. A soloist or duo or quartet sang with piano and flute or violin. There were a few song and dance shows, but due to the passengers' many languages we had no comedians or acts that required a good understanding of English. Food in the dining room tended to be about average rather than great. Always sufficient for any normal appetite, and enough selection to suit almost all passengers. The beverage package that included cocktails, wine, specialty coffee, water and soda in unlimited quantity was a true bargain at $28 per day. We had prepaid for excursions in all ports, and found many were not worth the price paid. Passengers with excursion vouchers had to congregate in the theater, and the staff sent out four or five busses (speaking various languages) at the same time to the same destination. We were late arriving at many sights, and waited in lines for up to an hour to board an elevator in some buildings. There was a library that had about 500 books in German, a hundred or so in French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese, and NONE in English - although there was a shelf with a sign that said English. There was almost no TV, and no daily news sheet was every printed. We had little idea of what was happening in the world during our cruise. Read Less

The ship is well maintained for its age. We were on every deck, as we love walking and noticed staff everywhere trying to maintain high standards. Excellent Staff, Delicious dining options, Fresh Fruits available in the Buffet. The assigned seating at dinner was picture perfect. We had a table at the front of the Dining Room with excellent sunset view every evening. Massage experience was divine and the health bar was a plus. The gym is huge with all the newest equipment and you can track your workout progress with an app connected to the equipment. The ship excursion were a bit disorganized and we had some minor issues. The wifi was dependable, just make sure you get the unlimited package as you wont regret it. Our room attendant was unbelievable and the room itself was awesome. Although you will have to pay for all the extras, it was not that bad. We will return Read Less

I read lots of reviews when deciding on booking this and lots worried me so I was very nervous of how much we would enjoy it...so my review below I hope will help answer the initial questions I had, without duplicating all the other reviews you will read .....im not a complete novice as have done Cunard Queen Victoria cruises before. Embarkation was excellent...slick, friendly welcoming and efficient....I read lots of reviews about peoples packages not being correct...I didn't hear any guests complain and when we arrived our cruise card was ready at checkin desk, with all trips credited, wifi package code , dining and drinks package all tabled...all worked fine immediately so no arguments on entitlement . The food was excellent....in the self service restaurant there was always plenty of choice and it was hot. It varied a lot in the choices . We had "my choice dining" in main restaurant which was lovely as we were not bound by a set table time..I would recommend this, as you get complete flexibility depending on your days activities. But if not 6.30 or 9pm sitting seemed to be well organised. Food and service were good...if you wanted more they happily offered another course or an extra sweet etc.Breakfast service was good with excellent choices and fruit you could take with you for snacks...there are also areas like an Italian patio area that did wonderfull cake selections in the afternoon..all included. Drinks packages are confusing to understand but staff on first day were helpful in explaining (although they will try and upgrade you..more about this on why I only gave 4 stars further down)...we had the basic package and we had plenty of draft beer, choice of red, white, rose and prossecco, unlimited speciality tea and coffees and even some of the basic milk shakes etc were included ,so for us who had a few pre dinner drinks, wine with dinner most evenings and also had several coffees as well as a beer or two by the pool etc during the day it was well worth it...it also included bottled water...this is a must if you go when its hot or on trips etc as water isn't cheap outside of packages or locally and given if you book before you go you get upto 20% off and don't pay any service charge....we felt it was good value....and you had peace of mind no big bill to challenge at the end. Guest services always had huge queues....ive seen it on all cruises so I especially liked MSC has installed some mini account registration stations...like an iPad where you can register you cruise card, set a limit for any charges on your credit card, link people in your party etc etc...this saved loads of time not queuing after checkin and also made check out easy too. Dress code varies....so simply its seems what you like goes...there are gala dinners so dress up and party away...but if you want to wear smart Casual to dinner that too was acceptable...most ladies wore a cocktail dress and men smart casual and a suit on gala night...this pleased my hubby as he didn't want to wear a shirt and tie every night like on Cunard. Staff I found spoke multiple languages and were always very happy to help ..guests varied from German, American, Italian ,French and English so I found a real cultural mix which I loved...yes announcements on the Tannoy can seem a little long as they do them in several languages but I didn't find it annoying at all....as it only happens once or twice a day. Theatre evening shows are mainly dance routines so that the language barrier doesn't impact enjoyment...its only 30-40 mins and after dinner, with a nice cocktail its a lovley way to unwind...all included. If you prefer to party there are lots of things every night in Jazz Bar, AFT bar etc to suit all tastes from Abba and 70s nights, Jazz to classical singing. Excursions are a personnel choice but we loved the variety..from coach tours sight seeing to mountain bike excursions.....booking via MSC does have advantages as if there are delays due to weather..or in our case a medical emergency meant the ship had to turn around overnight for someone, so that meant we were a few hours late for the next destination...excursions are reorganised and times amended ..if you have booked yourself independently then you will need to reorganise or possibly loose some time...but id say some are over priced so make sure you read the fine detail of what the trips includes...for example we thought we were having afternoon tea in the Ethiad tower.....it turned out to be a 30 min viewing platform with a small slice of cake and small china cup of tea....so expensive for what it was! All the destinations on our trip had "hop on hop of buses" right at the port entrance/docking point easily booked direct and seemed good value, so if your on a budget or want to have more freedom then this is a great way to explore the cities. So overall we loved it and are planning next years trip on the same ship as there was so much to do ,it was very clean as well as noise levels good in the rooms etc...so why 4 stars and not 5......I thought having spent quite a lot on a balcony package, with drinks, spa and excursions etc MSC should not be hard selling...when you arrive to check in you almost have to fend off the mass of sales teams , pitching from the excursion desk, spa treatment, drinks packages etc ....when you are tired after a 10 -12 hour journey then this I felt was unnecessary...then on board for the first 2 days sitting in a bar for instance you were constantly asked if you wanted to upgrade your drinks package or try and sell you a meal deal for the more expensive Butchers cut restaurant...but the final straw for me was the SPA girls....constantly asking if I wanted a massage at "very good price" , and asking why didn't I want to buy products all at discounted prices etc..I had a spa package included for unlimited sauna etc so everyday I had to pass this line of ladies trying to sell me stuff.....after day 3 I did speak to the manager to ask them to stop which they did but to me you should not encounter such hard sales....this I have not experienced on Cunard...hence my 4 star not 5. This was my second time on an msc ship. Did not have the best experience last time, so I had low expectations this time. This was a whole other experience however. Embarcation was smooth and easy. I found the staff to be much more friendly this time. Everyone we met were very helpful and positive. Food in the main dinig room was good, but again my travel partner felt the portions were too smal, so we used the buffet most nights. This time the food was actually warm in the buffet so that was good. The shows were ok, the acobatics were very good! Entertainment was good, even fun at times. The ship was a little worn down I felt. Needs to be freshened up a little. Could be cleener at times too. Our cabin was not very cleen, did not look like the night stands had been dusted for weeks. I wanted to complain, but my mother did not want to be a "Bother" so she cleened herself. The cabin which was an interior had a good size and a good layout. The itinerary was great! We did one excursion arranged through msc, this was ok, but not Great. Other than that we explored on our own. It was overall a more calm feeling on the ship this time. Might have something to do with the guests this time, other nationalities on this route I felt. But there is a problem with acustics in the public areas. It gets so loud. My mum use a hearing aid, but was unable to use it because of all the noise made it uncomfortable for her. Which again made me into one of those who contributed to the loudness to make her hear me. Not good. Read Less

We had only just come home from a Christmas cruise on Sinfonia and had a great time, by chance I was browsing the MSC site and found this cruise from Dubai flying out from the UK on Emirates at a price for a balcony cabin for what you would expect to pay for the flights. The flight was very good and we were transferred to the ship by about 8:30 in the morning, we expected to have to wait until after lunch to board but were shown through to check in and were on board by 9am and offered breakfast in the dining room. Our luggage arrived quite soon and we were able to get changed and freshen up before lunch. It was nice to see some familiar faces from other ships among the staff, and they went out of there way to make us welcome. We have sailed on Splendida previously so knew what to expect, but there were some changes that had been made presumably to suit Arabic tastes, One change in particular was a bar only playing Arabic type music, the bar seemed quite empty most nights; and this bar had always been full and buzzing on previous cruises. We did find the dinner service to be very slow, we were on first sitting (6:30) and we only just completed our meal by 8:30 when the second sitting were waiting to come in. On one evening we were served our starter and the dirty plates were still on the table half an hour after we had finished. I cleared the table myself and gave the plates to the waiter, as you can imagine that caused quite a fuss and service improved the following night but then slipped again. There was another issue with a sharp foreign body in my wife's soup, we are still waiting for a good explanation why it was there. We used the restaurant for most of our meals though when we did use the buffet it was fine. The cabin was very good and a good size though fittings are looking a bit shabby and a bit more attention need to be taken regarding cleaning in the corners, but with too many cabins to service it must be hard for the staff. Mentioning the staff, everyone we met was always willing to serve you with a smile and a chat, we never had to wait long in the bars, if you just sit there and expect them to find you then you may have a wait. If you see the waiter/waitress then just stand up and wave your cruise card and they will acknowledge you, it always worked for me. Disembarking was a breeze though it was early in the morning (3:30) we were transferred to the airport at Dubai, it's very large and flashy but there was enough going on to keep you amused until the flight. Last year I had two cruises with HAL and one with Celebrity. MSC reviews are very controversial and I did not immediately decide on booking. But as a result I liked this ship. What I liked: Thanks to the status match program, I received status Black based on my status from Celebrity. Food in a paid restaurant. One trip there for free with the status of Black. Cooked delicious, decorated nicely. Entertainment. Good staging of the show in the theater, beautiful costumes. Pleasant live music in the atrium and in bars. Entertainment is understandable to passengers speaking different languages. Daily there were various games by the pool. For participation in the games gave prizes. It was interesting for both children and adults. The company is interested in public from different countries. Information besides Italian dubbed in English, German, French and some others. The staff, having learned from which country the passenger, tried to say a few words in his language. Even in Chinese. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent, including the tender. Reception Never seen a big queue. Maximum two or three people. Buffet. Maybe it came successfully, but there were no queues for distributions. Design. Nice colors, beautiful decoration of public areas. Cabin. I had a fantasy category. The cabin is internal, but spacious enough. I liked the layout and color scheme. What I did not like: Pool area. Sun beds were very tight. Zone size is not sufficient. No soft lounges, like the companies Celebrity and HAL. The area near the indoor pool. Next to him there were no sun beds, only tables with chairs. Sunbed could be found on the second floor, above the pool. But this is less convenient. The range of food in the main restaurant and in the buffet is not very diverse, compared to HAL and Celebrity. But the cooking quality is good. Value for money I think good. Read Less

After reading many bad reviews we were a little worried. However, we had a thoroughly enjoyable trip with no real complaints although with every ship one can have little niggles. For the price we were very happy. This was our 16th cruise & 1st with MSC & we will be happy to choose MSC again. We chose this one for some winter sun, relaxation and interesting ports & that's what we got at very good value. Check in was smooth and speedy, bags were delivered quickly. The ship is spotlessly clean and we found the staff to be very friendly. Our balcony cabin 100075 was a good size and the sofa bed for my daughter was a double . All was clean and comfortable with enough storage space, although we were glad we brought a lot of our own hangers as not enough provided. Our towels were changed on an alarmingly regular basis!! Food was generally good in the main dining room, sensible sized portions, served hot which didn't leave you feeling bloated. The buffet was quite good too although nothing compares to Celebrity Cruises for food We took a drinks package which worked well for us. The Butchers Cut speciality restaurant was very good but a little expensive meaning it was very quiet.Never got to try the Asian themed one & imagine it would be quiet too as it's hidden away & not easy to get to. There were plenty of bars to choose from, all usually with some form of entertainment. Some were very quiet and lacked atmosphere. The theatre shows were very mediocre although the acrobats were good. We enjoyed all the ports of call, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas cruise beach, Muscat and Khasab. Glad we did the 4 wheel drive adventure in Khasab as there is no real city to visit. Our day at sea did prove deck space is limited if you don't get out early & find a bed that hasn't annoyingly been covered with a towel by someone who then goes off and doesn"t return for hours. And I mean hours, if at all. In the end I removed 2 towels blocking beds & no one ever came for them. This doesn't just happen on MSC though, it's just selfish people. All in all this was a lovely holiday. Yes, there were littlethings we thought may have made things slightly better, but I don't think any cruise line of reasonable price is 100% perfect & sorry; we don't want to be up there on grand ships even if we can afford it. There are always folk who seem to delight in complaining about each and every thing. Unless things are really bad how about just relaxing and being thankful you are able to get away in the first place? Read Less

This was my 8th cruise, the good lady's 4th and children's 3rd - though the first with MSC. We booked at Fantastica package which included 24 adult beverages and 24 non alcoholic ones for the family. I think if you approach MSC with an open mind, that it won't be the same as RCCL etc, there will be more of 'Mediterranean' feel to certain things, rather than a US polish / efficiency - I think you'll have a great time. The embarkation in Dubai involved no queue at 4.30pm and our cabin was already available to use. Disembarkation, we walked off with our own bags with ease and straight into a taxi to the airport. Food: We used the dining room for breakfast as one of party is gluten free and there was always a gf menu available. Choice of menu items cooked to order or hot and cold buffet options. Lunch we always used the buffet, where we never had an issue finding a table and enjoyed the freshly made pizza along with wide range of hot and cold food plus deserts. Buffet is open almost all day. Dinner we ate 5 times in the main restaurant (1st sitting at 7pm) and twice in the Butchers Cut, speciality restaurant. We liked the variety in the main restaurant, though portions are not large. Given how much we'd already consumed throughout the day, this was not an issue! Butchers Cut was ok, but not a stand out meal for the additional price paid. Unlimited bottles of mineral water were available at lunch and dinner, which was a nice touch. (Not sure if due to Voyager Club / where we booked cruise or included with Fantastica package). Wine included with drinks package included a nice Puilly Fume in the main restaurant. Ports (we did not book an MSC excursion as I didn't feel they were good value): Abu Dhabi - took a taxi and visited Yas Waterworld. Really enjoyable and I suspect less people and queues than Atlantis in Dubai. Sir Bani Yas - beautiful island, particularly the views to the far side. Kids played on the aquapark, I rented a paddle board for an hour. Buffet served on the island. Tender service worked well. Bahrain - port is 40 mins+ from Manama so chose to stay onboard Doha - Nice, compact city. Walked to Souq Waqif. Well worth a visit, particularly to the Falcon section Dubai - docks for 24 hours before disembarkation. Took a taxi to the Dubai Mall to see the aquarium (impressive) and Burj Khalifi (also impressive). Entertainment: Given the multiple nationalities on board it was mainly dance, acrobatics and signing. We went to a couple of shows, they were fine. Huge theatre with plenty of seating. Outside public areas: There was sports court that the children, and several others had a great time on playing football. We never had an issue finding space to grab a couple of hours in the sun (we always looked away from the main pool area). Even on the day at sea there were sunbeds free at 11am. Staff: Our cabin steward was quite quiet, but the room was cleaned well twice per day. The restaurant staff were all uniformly excellent & friendly. Summary: Given the price paid, versus the price we paid for a similar cruise with RCCL, MSC wins hands down. We all enjoyed the cruise to the extent we booked another one for December. Yes, there is a definite difference between MSC and the major US lines, though I don't see this as a bad thing. You could argue it has its plusses. I'd happily recommend as we all had a really enjoyable week onboard. Read Less

I choose MSC because of price, itinerary, and service. We always choose the Yacht Club experience and are never disappointed. Though we rarely go to the buffet I noticed the bar service there has greatly improved. As always the ship was immaculate. We had no problems in any manner on board. The dining experience has changed a bit in the YC but not in a positive or negative way. In comparison, the menus' format has changed and the food selection, if memory serves right, is reduced. Not by much, however. In any case, the quality of food in the YC is as good or better than ever. The embarkation and disembarkation were quick, easy and effortless. I can't say enough how MSC coddles their YC guests. We had an excellent Butler, Nata. He was the kind of Butler I like. Rarely seen but when needed he was right there and helpful. We did travel with my 14-year-old son but he chose not to utilize any youth programs. Read Less

Embarking in Dubai took about 10 minutes to get out of the taxi and onto the ship. Destination Japan and the languages announced on board has gone from 6 to 8 and now include Japanese and Chinese (not a problem for me) The ship is lovely with lots of bars and quiet areas to sit. I enjoyed the food and found it better then a Royal Caribbean cruise I did recently, I liked the main dining room as they can be so flexible, we were having up to 4 serves of some meals (chilli mussels) they were so delicious. They cooked us a special curry meal and pasta meal that was not on the menu and also delicious. There was a good variety of food in the buffet and easy to find seating most of the time. The all inclusive drinks package was $29 a day and a bargain and well used, I did not like the Pepsi light they used in the cocktails. The cabin was roomy. The wifi package was excellent value $160 for 10GB, I used about 8GB over the 29 days. and always got good reception. The nightly shows in the theatre were good but I really enjoyed listening to the different music and performers in the many different bars. I don't normally do daytime activities but did the world quiz and a wine tasting session, there were activities available most of the day. I don't like that they dont use the big screen near the pool, I did see two videos on there, Elvis and Led Zepplin which was good, but I love to sit back by the pool watching the big screen with a cocktail and cruising along, especially on sea days. I would not say this was a fantastic cruise, because of bad weather the port in Vietnam was changed at the last moment, we were unable to get off the Ship in Shanghai and we were half a day late getting into Yokohama, we were also delayed about 4 hours getting off ship in Hong Kong. Because of the change of itinerary MSC have compensated us all with 100 euro credit and 50% off next cruise. I booked 5 excursions but only did 3, all these I spent a long time on the bus :( . I purchased a spa package but was not keen on the small Jacuzzi in small room and the massage that was included I did not have time to do in the small time frame they allowed. The laundry package was good to have. I did most of the ports before and been on the ship before and the cancelled and delayed ports made 29 days a bit tedious, no fault of the company, because of this I would rate this cruise 3 out of 5,,,, but 99% of the staff gave 110%, they made a 3 star cruise 4 star. best bar staff ever... Cruise on the MSC Splendida From March 3rd to March 11th 2018 Middle East This is our 18th cruise, our 2nd with MSC. We had already done a Dubai cruise and we wanted to come back and the price/itinerary of MSC was great, hence, we chose to cruise with them again. It is very easy to embark the ship. We were there early in the morning and they took our luggage, made our cards and we were off to visit the city. There are plenty of taxis at the port and if you don't have EAD, ask for meter with credit card. They don't all have it so better to ask before leaving. The Splendida has recently been refurbished in the general areas and it is gorgeous! The Bora Bora buffet is simply beautiful and VERY spacious. The rooms have not been done. Our biggest problem with this cruise was that the walls are paper thin! Seriously!! You can hear people caughing, follow a conversation…So imagine being next to a crying baby! This made our nights a living hell!! Once, our neighbor decided to watch CNN at 4am… Well, we had to knock on the wall for them to shut the TV off… Needless to say we came out of this cruise more tired than we were at the beginning. The itinerary is amazing. Visas are required for this cruise and although I called MSC many MANY times, I never had the same answer regarding visas. Some said I had to get them from a website they gave me, and once, I spoke to a passport/visa specialist who said the ship would charge me on board. Well, thank god I decided to wait there and see since the ship takes care of ALL the details and fees… They simply give you a card when you exit the ship in every port of call. No hassle, no charge. (FYI, we are Canadians). The food was sometimes quite ordinary and sometimes delicious… The morning choices were just ok for us. That was really not our favorite meal. Everything on the ship is in Euros. This, for Canadians, makes everyting crazy expensive. Especially their shore excursions. My advice, take a taxi on your own. When they sell tickets for shuttles ( Eg Bahrain and Doha city center), don’t take it. There is nothing to do in Bahrain city center and a free port shuttle will take you to LULU mall where you will find taxis. Watch out, they want to charge you for the day so insist on meter!!! He wanted to charge us 200Euros for 5 people to do the International Circuit, the Camel farm, see the fort and the mosque. We said no, we wanted meter.. It cost us 100Euros… The people working onboard at the reception are very helpful and nice. Our waiter was average. We had to ask him every night for ice. Our room lady made our room three times… We had first seating dining, it is not really hard to keep track of this fact. We would come back in our room at 8h30/9h00 and our room had not been done, no towels for the morning. We did not go to the shows. We prefered staying on our balcony and listening to the waves.:) Will we cruise with MSC again? For sure. They have great itineraries and great prices. Did we love our cruise, AMAZING!! Read Less

This is our 2nd cruise with MSC and we honestly don't understand a lot of the negative complaints about MSC. I do admit that the food is average but that doesn't mean it is bad. The unlimited drinks package is great value at £23 per day. Can't understand why hot chocolate can't be included in it. We had no problems with communicating with the staff. The embarking and disembarking was very quick and smooth. We stayed in our first balcony cabin only costing about £500 each. In regard to the ship we loved it. We had been on the Preziosa the year before so it was hard not to compare the two as they are of the same class and very similar. My favourite place aboard is the La Piazzetta which looks like a fake Italian or french village setting. We enjoyed a lot of gelato there as it was included in our drinks package. I was sad that the Tex Mex restaurant had been turned into the Butcher's Cut steak restaurant. I was looking forward to the original one. I didn't think much of the latter because it was very expensive and the food was average. We liked the Sea Pavilion Hot Pot restaurant. The view was great from there and it was fun to order food to cook at the table. We ordered far too much. It was a bit confusing knowing what to do and the staff were very helpful and also amused. Nowhere as costly as the Butcher's Cut. We enjoyed the main restaurant and the staff there were brilliant. We weren't impressed with the entertainment much. Some of the singers butchered some songs and were bad. We understand that there are limitations when dealing with many nationalities so shows are mainly dancing. Don't expect American cruise line quality. We didn't do any excursions with the ship but our own thing as we have cruised in the Gulf before. We used excursion websites or took taxis. We find MSC great value for money with great ships. We would recommend Splendida to all. Read Less

My second time on Splendida. This time in the Middle East. The ship has been on dry dock to be better prepared for the Asian market. Some improvements and all the ship lettering and communication including Chinese characters. We chose this cruise for its itinerary and the MSC “fly and cruise” package option. It was a good choice. It was our 4th time cruising with MSC and we knew what to expect, but we consider the food on MDR worse than our last visit… This was our main issue. As it was Carnival week we found the ship with plenty of Brazilian and Portuguese (due to school break?). I’m Portuguese and I found the translations in the communication forms a bit weak and lacking, for a better understanding we always asked for the original English ones… We were lucky with our assigned dinner companions. Easy talk and always lots of daily adventures. We opted to book all our shore excursions with MSC. Normally we are very DIY regarding all the ports we visit in Europe, very easy to do on our own; but we wanted to see a lot in a day and not stress because of traffic, delays, and stuff like that. As we went without the kid, and we booked an interior cabin, we wanted to experience it all and went a little nuts with our excursions … We planned very well our excursion in Dubai, so we left Burj Khalifa out of the excursion on Friday because we wanted to spend some more time in there than what we are allowed by excursion, so, on Saturday, embarkation day we arrived around noon, checked in and went to Burj Khalifa by taxi. We bought our tickets via the app “tiqets” and we climbed around 5:30, so we were able to go up and see during the day and beginning of the night. It was awesome! We were there till 7:30 pm. On Abu Dhabi we did a day tour visiting the Mosque and some other highlights in the morning and then we did the Ferrari World. On Bharain we also went on a day tour visiting the old fort, the museum, the Mosque, and the F1 circuit, also included on the tour was a lovely lunch in a local restaurant (the food was amazing!). In Sir Bani Yas we just went to the beach. On Doha we did a half-day desert jeep safari: I absolutely loved this experience! Our most expensive tour was Dubai on Friday, we went on a full day tour, including lunch at Burj Al Arab. We also opted to go to the Atlantis in The Palm, as we went to the Burj Khalifa on Saturday. What a day! This was a very nice cruise holiday and we enjoyed the ship facilities, and the cities we visited. MSC is a good European cruise company, but attention to details is always needed. Would like to go again to this part of the world. Read Less

This was our 3rd time on Splendida and as we were in the Yacht Club previously we were a bit anxious. We sailed from Abu Dhabi and purchased the cruise through our local Travel Agent. It was an all inclusive deal with flights, transfers, cruise and drinks package. Our balcony cabin was a lot smaller than (Y. C.) but still a reasonable size. Cabin 10079. Our Cabin Steward was Antonni and he was pleasant, helpful and kept the room perfect. We had second seating for dinner which we thought was 8.30 but turned out to be 9.15, just a little late for dinner. The food was reasonably good, and our waiters Erfani and assistant waiter Yogi were great. We discover on this cruise that we could have fresh coffee and tea at the little Cafe on deck 6. It also served snacks and small cakes throughout the day. We didn't attend any of the shows so I can't comment on those, The Casino was always quiet. They have a Cigar bar where you can smoke, it seemed to be open all day but the bar itself only in the evenings. There were plenty of Sun loungers except for the day at sea when it was very busy up on deck. We did the Dhow cruise in Khasab, and Dinner in the Dunes in Dubai, both excursions with the ship. On leaving the ship we were able to check in our luggage and get our boarding passes in the port. I thought this was a great feature and wish it was offered in all the ports! Overall we had a great cruise, the drinks differed from bar to bar, so try them all. Read Less

I wanted to start and finish my cruise in Dubai as my daughter lives there. It was a bit daunting as I has never cruised before, but everything was made so easy. The organisation of this ship from boarding through to the disembarkation was done very efficiently. I particularly enjoyed the daily dance lessons of Vivi and Mejia, whose infectious encouragement made each lesson such a pleasure. The staff in the Villa Verde restaurant were very attentive, especially our waiter Pande, who kept our glasses charged at all times. We found the buffet in Pago Pago & Bora Bora rather overwhelming, so decided to breakfast and lunch in La Reggio Restaurant, which was more tranquil, and it was nice to be served at the table, having said that, the buffet in La Reggio was also excellent, and the fresh pasta cooked before your very eyes was just amazing. We took two of the ship excursions, one to Muscat in Oman, which was beautiful, and one to see dolphins whilst on a dhow, in Khasab, Oman. Both of these trips were so well organised and we thought good value. The pool areas on the ship were very clean and well looked after by the staff, all the bar staff were very accommodating and efficient. There was so much choice of entertainment at night that we found it hard to choose where to go. White Night in the Aft Bar was just amazing! I would not hesitate in booking this ship again as I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Itinerary and decent price. I read a lot of bad reviews of this ship and cruiseline, and was quite nervous, but I came away from the cruise extremely happy with the MSC Splendida. Our interior 2 person cabin was typical and perfectly fine with excellent housekeeping. I loved the buffet food, for all meals. Went to the dining room only twice... its nice, but didnt find the food choices overly appealing. What we ate though was fine. Our main server was ANDIE and he has the biggest smile ever, loved him! We found the staff elsewhere, all pretty good and friendly. I say in the title 'good for quiet adults' because the only thing I found lacking were some of my favourite cruiseship activities, like participation games in the theatre, and/or a comedy club. I also never reallly heard upbeat music around the main pool (and I love that for a little vacation-party atmosphere). I did very much like the sun loungers with the adjustable mini-roof! We had gorgeous non-cheesy portraits done by a terrific female photographer. The clientele on our cruise was mainly Italian, followed by British/French/German. We met many lovely people from around the world. I had read reviews about how the Italians were catered to, and I did not find this at all. I found pretty much all the cruisers polite (or to put it another way, no glaringly horrible people, haha) We couldnt quite get a handle (through internet reviews)on exactly when we were allowed to checkin/get on board for embarking, so we took a chance, arrived at the pier at noon and were swiftly checked in and on board, even though our ticket said our boarding time was 5:30pm. We had to check-out early (the ship was in Dubai port for 2 days at the end of this itinerary), and we just had to go to customer service that morning to advise them etc... All went smoothly. When we got off the ship at 10pm, there were taxis outside the pier doors. We did the Dhow Fjord cruise in Khasab, and it was ok. Relaxing. We did the evening desert jeep/camel/dinner excursion and it was AWESOME!!! I would give MSC a whirl again, no problem! Read Less

Due to the excellent Status Match offered by MSC, we were tempted to try them as we went straight in at their top Black Card level. Not one to do anything by halves, we booked a week on Splendida and a B2B on Magnifica for 2017 and just before our first MSC cruise, we found an amazing £700 per week deal for a balcony Yacht Club on Splendida in January 2018, so we booked a B2B. I have to confess that after our first cruises on Splendida and Magnifica I wasn't too impressed - and would have cancelled these Dubai cruises had they not been in Yacht Club. MSC is a strange cruise line which operates more like a bus, with new passengers joining and others leaving at most ports. It really does mess things up compared to a "standard" cruise; lifeboat drills most nights for new arrivals, one "end of cruise" show which means you may see it half-way through your cruise depending when you joined, no settling down period where guests become familiar with the ship.... The food in the main dining room was a let down on our first cruises, the shows were the same every night; they just changed the costumes and music, the multi-lingual announcements lasted 5 minutes. I just did not like the experience. HOWEVER, that all changed on our Yacht Club sailing this January 2018. The shows were probably just as awful; so we didn't go to any after the first. The main restaurant was probably as bad as before, but we didn't need to go there. The bars around the ship were often overcrowded and it was difficult to get a seat; so we didn't stay if that was the case. The Yacht Club lounge was THE perfect escape for us; never busy, waiters eager to serve, free drinks (which BTW we could get at any bar with our YC card), snacks changed at least four times every day (though could do with some savoury late night snacks and not just cakes), a very nice continental-style breakfast offering and (if we wanted) a pleasant afternoon tea. Our private YC restaurant L'Olivo was perfect in every way (apart from that loud Canadian women you could hear across the room lol). Wine glasses were refilled almost immediately, the service was great but not stuffy and the food was excellent without being too fancy. A special mention to Leo, our waiter, thank you again !! The YC pool area offered a great escape from the crowds - again with attentive waiters and a nice (if limited) lunch. Plenty of shaded sitting areas and room to move around the deck to find sunbeds as the sun/shade moved. Other than the 5 minutes when the shows finish, the YC "priority lift" was superb. Simply insert your card and press the YC button and the lift would bypass other floors and come straight to you. Insert the card inside the lift and it will whisk you off to your chosen floor too. Our cabin (16004) was large, clean and functional but did lack drawer space. The tiny TV in the corner of the room was not good and the balcony was a let down as we were at the front of the ship and could not see much due to the slope of the walls. We've had better cabins. I've read many complaints about the Buffet. When you enter, the seating is always full and the food stations bustling with people. Yet, if you walk farther down, you will find more and more food and ample seating all around. Did those complaining actually bother to walk down there? I would agree that the food needs to be warmer - hot would be nice but I'd happily settle for warm. It seems to be like this on every cruise ship buffet. I have to say that we thought Yacht Club was great; if we wanted the fuss of a butler walking us to dinner or a show we could have it. Had we wanted them at our call throughout the day, Im sure they would have been happy to oblige. We were just content in knowing the service we received was excellent and, had we asked for more, they would have provided it without question. So, do we cruise MSC again? - definitely within Yacht Club but definitely not if we were elsewhere on the ship. BUT you have to remember that for the price you can have 3 MSC cruises compared to just 2 with other cruise lines so consider the cost saving when you set your expectations. Read Less

Just got back form a 6 night med cruise on this ship, Embarkation and disembarkation went as well as expected. In the main the ship was nice, the public areas are good and clean. Cabins (we were in 11210) was very nice. Dinning:- The buffet. This was probably the best food you will find on the ship and the best for selection. If you like your coffee I'd would recommend the coffee package (about £25 for about 20 coffees) as the coffee in the machines is a little cheap, drinkable but not that nice. As someone else has mentioned on the forum you don't get spoons just wooden sticks. Allocated Dinning:- The menu was not that good. Food was never that warm. One example of the main meal. I ordered a lasagna but when it came you go what you ordered lasagna no garnish, nothing just a lump of lasagne in the middle of an empty plate not very imaginative. The service and the staff:- I personally found them very nice, my philosophy is if your pleasant to them your pleasant to you. The cabin stewards was always a pleasure to talk to and he did a great job. Out on board:- all good there clean tidy, one of the main gripes is that you couldn't walk round the whole of the outside (walking deck) of the ship as you can on other cruise liners. Read Less

Genoa seven day Western Med 23 September 2017 Firstly i was conscious to book outside school holidays to have a more relaxing cruise. Was hesitant to book with this cruise line after reading some reviews and looking at food on You Tube. How wrong i was. Been on the Celebrity Solstice around NZ. Found the dinning room food to be sub standard. two out of ten and the Celebrity Equinox around the med seven out of ten. Overall the MSC Splendida had better food than the Celebrity cruises. The variety was amazing and the healthy food section was a big bonus. The deserts were superior to Celebrity. Boarding was easy from Genoa one of my favourite cities in Italy however the baggage collection signage was poor at the port. We found it eventually well to the West of the embarkation area. The staff was amazing. Kept to themselves were very courteous unlike the Celebrity staff that seemed to be in your room far too often.. This is a beautiful ship around the same age as the Celebrity Solstice. Rooms and ship in general were very well maintained better than the Solstice. Few areas of worn carpet near busy door ways needed attention. Easy fix. Entertainment excellent. Better than Celebrity Loved all the ports in the Western Med except Valencia being only average. I love Italy, my favourite country and i love Italian people who make up a large portion of the Australian population. Can the MSC management tell all Australians why they don't allow Australians to book on Vacations to Go at a reduced rate while other races can.?????. Horrible. Read Less

This was my second cruise with MSC (first one was in August 2014 on Fantasia). We travelled with 2 kids (aged 4 and 2) and I missed having a specific pool were families with small children could stay (with deck chairs, bar, etc). The small covered kid's pool in most of the time in the shadow and the water is cold. The opening times of the kids' club for children under 3 is really scarce. The food, on the contrary, was varied and healthy. Service in general terms was much better on my first experience with MSC; this time I have not felt that cruise members were so helpful, gentle and implicated (staff at kid's club, cabin, waiters, etc). The night entertainment can be improved (in particular the Theater spectacles). The itinerary too (many of the destination were not really worth visiting). The cabin, the common areas and the food are really good. The main hall really impressive. Read Less

It was a family trip. Embarkation and disembarkation were fine and everything was very well organized. Ship. Everything was in very good condition. At this point I have a small complaint that the temperature was too low inside, considering that we were wearing bathsuits and sometimes wet. I got a cold during the trip because of this. Cabin. The cabin was fine, everything very new and comfortable Dining. The quality and service was very good. The service on diners was superb. I have to say it was a bit chaotic for lunches, with crowded buffet on the top deck and it was difficult to find a table. Also in the buffet there were less waiters than needed and sometimes it took us a long time to get our drinks. Entertaintment. The look of everything was great but my feeling is that there were too many people for the top deck pools. Most of my family liked entertaintment in the theater, even if it was not my cup of tea. The party in the top deck on the night of Mallorca was superb and we enjoyed it very much. *** I have a BIG COMPLAINT about arcade games, where my 14 year old son spent a big amount of money just using his card withought knowing. I think children shouldn't be allowed to spend money without their parents permission and more explicit warning. Service. It was very good ingeneral. Specially waiters during the dinner. Ports. I liked most of them except Palermo. Excursions were very good. Children had an exceptional time. From the four members of my family kids would like to do it again but for adults I think we wouldn't do it again. Read Less

I have just finished a cruise with your company on MSC Splendida from the 1 June-8 June sailing round the Med. I must say you have some excellent staff onboard. A special mention must be made of Francis Dilip and Michael Santos, two members of staff at Aperitivo Bar. They were both courteous and conscientious even when the bar got really busy. Nothing was too much trouble for these two guys. The ship was excellent and immaculately clean throughout our stay. The only drawback for me is as the ship is very large there were a lot of people cruising on there and certain areas of the ship were very busy, which wasn't always comfortable. The entertainment could have been better. The showings at the cinema were not to my individual taste. The area round the swimming pools got really busy too as can be expected with the amount of passengers onboard. Read Less

I am from Maryland, USA and my wife and I wanted to celebrate our 25 year anniversary in style. You definitely want to get the upgraded suite, we were in room 12226 at rear of ship but on right side. Sun rises were excellent. The room was so large more than 200 SF! With a walk in closet bigger than ours at home. My wife Anita is so jeolous and wants a bigger closet now! LOL. There are people that like to take your spot inline, but in front of you, take your pool chair, etc. But if you stick up, speak up, and tell them no, they will back down. I had a guy butt up to the front of the line to see the host at the registration desk and I told him, that I had been waiting for over 10 minutes and to go to the back of the line. I had a guy steal my pool lounge chair while my wife and I walked around the ship for like 15 minutes. When I got back to my chair I noticed that my towel had been move over to my wife's chair and my chair was slid over to another group. I confronted the gentleman and he said he was sorry and was willing to give me back my chair but I just told him no thank you. Just stick to your guns and you will be fine. We loved the shows, The Vatican, all the churches, I spend $750 upfront on excursions for my wife and me, the first excursion was in Geno and it was the open bus one (it was terrible, the driver flew through the tour, the bus was old, the earpiece plugs into the bus and is not clear to hear, waste of money (But the Aquarium is a must! Unbelievable aquarium, (we have an aquarium in downtown Baltimore but this one has to be four times as large!) etc.. Definitely want to get the drink package, you can not afford not to! And buy it now. Do not wait to get the drink package, on the ship, they hit you up for 15% gratuity and people were trying to fill bottles with water from the dining room. Come on, people it cost money to go on vacation, spent and stop being so cheap!!! The food is not as good as Royal Caribbean. There is no assigned seating but there is assigned dining hall for your cabin and only two seating times available. So I suggest getting the Flex time package where you can go to dinner anytime between 7 PM and 10 PM. Also if you do not feel like eating at the restaurant hall, they only have one other location to eat at and that cost money called Tex Mex restaurant. It costs roughly $20 to $55 euros (for two people total) to get a decent meal there. Oh and the per deim per day per person for gratuity is added automatically to the bill but it is not $7 euros it is now $10 euros! As least for my room! The food was not spectacular. Wife and I got a tour of the spa and fitness center and we both got a free message with our package so I gave my wife both of them. The spa has spectacular views from the front of the ship on 15th floor. We got in the hot tub and it was crouded, the pool temperature on May 23rd 2017 was cool. Felt like 65 degrees. Wife and I do not have kids but the cruise did not have that many kids thank God. Read Less

we chose this cruise on recommendation from our travel agent, the embarkation process was very smooth & quick, most of the staff onboard were friendly, helpful, courteous, we chose suite, it was spacious, with panoramic view, & small walk-in wardrobe, the disappointing thing was there were no amenities, except soap & shampoo from dispenser, we expected the suite to have more amenities, the buffet had an array of choices, we were spoilt for choices, & also the restaurant had different menu every day, so it was good as we could only go to one restaurant to eat, or buffet, good entertainment whole day through, & in the evenings too, didn't; take any shore excursions with them, as they all were starting quite early, & we wanted to take it easy, heading off at around 11, the bus service from port to city were too expensive, as it was drop & pick, they could have kept it more reasonable, check for other services, or public transport, much cheaper & equally good, disembarkation was not very good for us, as they did not give us tags for our luggage, & by the time we asked them, they said it was late to get luggage service, didm;t give us reason as to why the tags were not delivered in our room. so in the morning one kind cleaner helped us with our luggage to the exit point, so that ruined our overall experience. As it was their fault for not giving us tags, they should have assisted us with our luggage. But overall it was a good experience. Lots of activities to keep one occupied. Lots of quiet seating areas too to relax. Read Less

I am a 46 year old from Indiana. I traveled with my family which consisted of my wife, my 2 10 year old boys, my 70 year old mother and her 68 year old sister. We have all cruised before on Princess, NCL, Celebrity, Disney, and MSC. This cruise was in March and we had just cruised on the MSC Divina las October. I have no cruise status, but the family does travel alot. Embarkation was in Genoa. We learned last fall on the Divina that you dont need connecting rooms if you get balcony rooms next to each other. When you do this you can open up the divider on the balcony between the two rooms and use that to go back and forth between the rooms. The only downside to this was that one night it was pretty stormy outside and the divider banged made noise until I found a way to secure it. Embarkation was fst and friendly. My mother has a cane and once the MSC staff saw this they sped us all through the process and we did not have to wait at all. One nice feature about the ship picking up passengers at about every stop is that our room was ready for us as soon as we got onto the shop at noon. We knew pretty much what to expect with the ship prior to arrival because it is essentially the same as the Divina. I do have to say that the Divina seemed a little nicer than the Splendida. There were a couple more upcharge restaurants on the Divina, although we didnt eat at any of them on either ship. Coming from the USA where there is a mexican restaurant on every corner and a steakhouse on every other corner it was hard for me to justify paying more to eat mexican on the ship. We always get a balcony at the rear of the ship on the floor nearest the buffet. This allows us to grab food and return to our balcony if we cant find a table in the buffet. This was a problem on the Divina, but we never had a problem finding a table at the buffet on the Splendida. This also allows you to be a quick walk to the pool or hot tub without having to walk down a long hallway. The food at the Main Dining Room was so so. I definitely would not go on MSC for the food, but I definitely would not skip the MSC because of the food. It is no Celbrity, but it wasnt much worse than DIsney. My youngest got steak every night and the rest of us tried pretty much everything. The wait staff was friendly but not speedy. You have to expect long dinners in the Main Dining Room though. We only ate in here 4 nights. The evening buffet was smaller than the lunch buffet which was a real bummer. There were not as many choices for dinner than for lunch. There were always good pizza, hamburgers, and a good pasta. They had calamari everynight. I usually like calamari, but this was the fisshiest tasting, rubbery stuff I have ever had. The big disipoinment was not free lobster on the boat. Overall though I liked the food. It was in the 60's most days and people were not at the pools. I had the drink package and found that the pool bar was the place to be. Very friendly bar staff and no crowd. The ports were nice except for Marseille. Marseiile was the dirtiest place I have been. I have been to Beijing, Central America, and Chicago and found Marseille to be a huge waste of time. Not worth the bus ride. Palermo was the best, then Malta, then Rome, then Barcelona. I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat. Read Less
