My second time on Splendida. This time in the Middle East. The ship has been on dry dock to be better prepared for the Asian market. Some improvements and all the ship lettering and communication including Chinese characters. We chose this cruise for its itinerary and the MSC “fly and cruise” package option. It was a good choice. It was our 4th time cruising with MSC and we knew what to expect, but we consider the food on MDR worse than our last visit… This was our main issue. As it was Carnival week we found the ship with plenty of Brazilian and Portuguese (due to school break?). I’m Portuguese and I found the translations in the communication forms a bit weak and lacking, for a better understanding we always asked for the original English ones… We were lucky with our assigned dinner companions. Easy talk and always lots of daily adventures. We opted to book all our shore excursions with MSC. Normally we are very DIY regarding all the ports we visit in Europe, very easy to do on our own; but we wanted to see a lot in a day and not stress because of traffic, delays, and stuff like that. As we went without the kid, and we booked an interior cabin, we wanted to experience it all and went a little nuts with our excursions … We planned very well our excursion in Dubai, so we left Burj Khalifa out of the excursion on Friday because we wanted to spend some more time in there than what we are allowed by excursion, so, on Saturday, embarkation day we arrived around noon, checked in and went to Burj Khalifa by taxi. We bought our tickets via the app “tiqets” and we climbed around 5:30, so we were able to go up and see during the day and beginning of the night. It was awesome! We were there till 7:30 pm. On Abu Dhabi we did a day tour visiting the Mosque and some other highlights in the morning and then we did the Ferrari World. On Bharain we also went on a day tour visiting the old fort, the museum, the Mosque, and the F1 circuit, also included on the tour was a lovely lunch in a local restaurant (the food was amazing!). In Sir Bani Yas we just went to the beach. On Doha we did a half-day desert jeep safari: I absolutely loved this experience! Our most expensive tour was Dubai on Friday, we went on a full day tour, including lunch at Burj Al Arab. We also opted to go to the Atlantis in The Palm, as we went to the Burj Khalifa on Saturday. What a day! This was a very nice cruise holiday and we enjoyed the ship facilities, and the cities we visited. MSC is a good European cruise company, but attention to details is always needed. Would like to go again to this part of the world. Read Less

This was our 3rd time on Splendida and as we were in the Yacht Club previously we were a bit anxious. We sailed from Abu Dhabi and purchased the cruise through our local Travel Agent. It was an all inclusive deal with flights, transfers, cruise and drinks package. Our balcony cabin was a lot smaller than (Y. C.) but still a reasonable size. Cabin 10079. Our Cabin Steward was Antonni and he was pleasant, helpful and kept the room perfect. We had second seating for dinner which we thought was 8.30 but turned out to be 9.15, just a little late for dinner. The food was reasonably good, and our waiters Erfani and assistant waiter Yogi were great. We discover on this cruise that we could have fresh coffee and tea at the little Cafe on deck 6. It also served snacks and small cakes throughout the day. We didn't attend any of the shows so I can't comment on those, The Casino was always quiet. They have a Cigar bar where you can smoke, it seemed to be open all day but the bar itself only in the evenings. There were plenty of Sun loungers except for the day at sea when it was very busy up on deck. We did the Dhow cruise in Khasab, and Dinner in the Dunes in Dubai, both excursions with the ship. On leaving the ship we were able to check in our luggage and get our boarding passes in the port. I thought this was a great feature and wish it was offered in all the ports! Overall we had a great cruise, the drinks differed from bar to bar, so try them all. Read Less

I wanted to start and finish my cruise in Dubai as my daughter lives there. It was a bit daunting as I has never cruised before, but everything was made so easy. The organisation of this ship from boarding through to the disembarkation was done very efficiently. I particularly enjoyed the daily dance lessons of Vivi and Mejia, whose infectious encouragement made each lesson such a pleasure. The staff in the Villa Verde restaurant were very attentive, especially our waiter Pande, who kept our glasses charged at all times. We found the buffet in Pago Pago & Bora Bora rather overwhelming, so decided to breakfast and lunch in La Reggio Restaurant, which was more tranquil, and it was nice to be served at the table, having said that, the buffet in La Reggio was also excellent, and the fresh pasta cooked before your very eyes was just amazing. We took two of the ship excursions, one to Muscat in Oman, which was beautiful, and one to see dolphins whilst on a dhow, in Khasab, Oman. Both of these trips were so well organised and we thought good value. The pool areas on the ship were very clean and well looked after by the staff, all the bar staff were very accommodating and efficient. There was so much choice of entertainment at night that we found it hard to choose where to go. White Night in the Aft Bar was just amazing! I would not hesitate in booking this ship again as I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Itinerary and decent price. I read a lot of bad reviews of this ship and cruiseline, and was quite nervous, but I came away from the cruise extremely happy with the MSC Splendida. Our interior 2 person cabin was typical and perfectly fine with excellent housekeeping. I loved the buffet food, for all meals. Went to the dining room only twice... its nice, but didnt find the food choices overly appealing. What we ate though was fine. Our main server was ANDIE and he has the biggest smile ever, loved him! We found the staff elsewhere, all pretty good and friendly. I say in the title 'good for quiet adults' because the only thing I found lacking were some of my favourite cruiseship activities, like participation games in the theatre, and/or a comedy club. I also never reallly heard upbeat music around the main pool (and I love that for a little vacation-party atmosphere). I did very much like the sun loungers with the adjustable mini-roof! We had gorgeous non-cheesy portraits done by a terrific female photographer. The clientele on our cruise was mainly Italian, followed by British/French/German. We met many lovely people from around the world. I had read reviews about how the Italians were catered to, and I did not find this at all. I found pretty much all the cruisers polite (or to put it another way, no glaringly horrible people, haha) We couldnt quite get a handle (through internet reviews)on exactly when we were allowed to checkin/get on board for embarking, so we took a chance, arrived at the pier at noon and were swiftly checked in and on board, even though our ticket said our boarding time was 5:30pm. We had to check-out early (the ship was in Dubai port for 2 days at the end of this itinerary), and we just had to go to customer service that morning to advise them etc... All went smoothly. When we got off the ship at 10pm, there were taxis outside the pier doors. We did the Dhow Fjord cruise in Khasab, and it was ok. Relaxing. We did the evening desert jeep/camel/dinner excursion and it was AWESOME!!! I would give MSC a whirl again, no problem! Read Less

Myself and wife booked this cruise because we wanted to cruise the Gulf..this would be our 3rd MSC cruise...but this one was totally insane. As Canadians we behave civilly and show respect to others....unfortunately the passenger make up of this ship are from various countries...and some are just pushy , uncivil rude obnoxiuos and unfriendly ...maybe they are just being gun shy(LOL)..I hope all are not like this...they do not smile and always pushing, speaking loudly, not queing, finger picking foods and the list goes on and on.........when you pay to cruise you expect that fellow passengers to be mannerly....maybe there should be a standard set. MSC did not deliver on this cruise....the food was very substandard..maybe others liked it...the shows were stupid and put you asleep, again catering to a small segment of the passengers, the band music, etc not too good too..oh well. MSC missed out on this cruise and things just did not go right..I will give them another chance but this one left a lot to be desired...The ship itself was nice and clean..and I had no issues with cabin except for the first night. ..They messed up at check in,they did not change the sheets(I had to complain and then they did),I complained to the restaurant manager about the food and suggested that the chefs and all cooks be replaced...lol ha..ha.. The initial life drill was a disaster...no one to show you or guide you to muster station..I have never seen anything like this...this is my 21st cruise..we did eventually find a man dressed in white who indicated that he is safety officer and crews would be coming soon...this man was reeking of liquor..totally wasted ..unbelievable...this was 10.40 pm and drill was for 10.30pm. I cant tell MSC how to run their business but a lot of senior officers need replacing. The cruise itself was not bad... For breakfast one should go to the sit down restaurant where you get real food...lunch and dinner in buffet is the only way to go..you can always find a piece of bread and cheese to eat.The restaurant at dinner is more flair than substance..we went once and ran away. So much dfor the ship....too bad MSC has failed miserably. Now for the cruise... Dubai can be navigated cheaply..there is a shuttle bus that takes you to Dubai mall for free, you can then buy a pss at the metro station and go by bus and trains to your desired choice of visit.. In Abu dhabi the same goes,a shuttle bue takes you to World centre mall, you can then hop a taxi to your destination..very good value...stay with metered taxis that have the cameras..just ask...their are scrupilous people wanting to take you but they are not metered nor part of the taxi system. The island of yas nasir was ok,but very cold the dat we went. In muscat this was dream...just go outside port and ask a taxi driver for private taxi..2or 3 peopl..I dont think 4 people can fit in car...just tell taxi driver you will pay #) Omani Ryals thats about 65Euros for a tour..he will take 3 hour tour. He will take you to Qaboos mosque(a must see),opera house, sultan palace, museum a few other places and drop you back to ship.THe key is to spend no more than 45 minutes at mosque, and other places just spend a few minutes We got our taxi at 8.50 and the man dropped us off at 12 pm...this was a bargain...they are fair people,do not tack on extra time unless you negotiate ahead of time...meaning you can tell taxi driver for every additional hour after 3 you will pay x amount..you can determine that amount but i was told it is less than 10 Omani Ryals...3 hours is alot of time. In all ports there is something called BIG BUs..hop on and Hop off..thats people's choice but you can navigate things on your own. In Kasabh port just walk to the town..its not far,you pass by a fort you pay 1ryal go see it then walk to town another 10 minutes..total walk time 20 minutes...you have all day. And please hold your breath..the italian cxrowds will push and shove ...just shout at them.. Have fun Read Less

Due to the excellent Status Match offered by MSC, we were tempted to try them as we went straight in at their top Black Card level. Not one to do anything by halves, we booked a week on Splendida and a B2B on Magnifica for 2017 and just before our first MSC cruise, we found an amazing £700 per week deal for a balcony Yacht Club on Splendida in January 2018, so we booked a B2B. I have to confess that after our first cruises on Splendida and Magnifica I wasn't too impressed - and would have cancelled these Dubai cruises had they not been in Yacht Club. MSC is a strange cruise line which operates more like a bus, with new passengers joining and others leaving at most ports. It really does mess things up compared to a "standard" cruise; lifeboat drills most nights for new arrivals, one "end of cruise" show which means you may see it half-way through your cruise depending when you joined, no settling down period where guests become familiar with the ship.... The food in the main dining room was a let down on our first cruises, the shows were the same every night; they just changed the costumes and music, the multi-lingual announcements lasted 5 minutes. I just did not like the experience. HOWEVER, that all changed on our Yacht Club sailing this January 2018. The shows were probably just as awful; so we didn't go to any after the first. The main restaurant was probably as bad as before, but we didn't need to go there. The bars around the ship were often overcrowded and it was difficult to get a seat; so we didn't stay if that was the case. The Yacht Club lounge was THE perfect escape for us; never busy, waiters eager to serve, free drinks (which BTW we could get at any bar with our YC card), snacks changed at least four times every day (though could do with some savoury late night snacks and not just cakes), a very nice continental-style breakfast offering and (if we wanted) a pleasant afternoon tea. Our private YC restaurant L'Olivo was perfect in every way (apart from that loud Canadian women you could hear across the room lol). Wine glasses were refilled almost immediately, the service was great but not stuffy and the food was excellent without being too fancy. A special mention to Leo, our waiter, thank you again !! The YC pool area offered a great escape from the crowds - again with attentive waiters and a nice (if limited) lunch. Plenty of shaded sitting areas and room to move around the deck to find sunbeds as the sun/shade moved. Other than the 5 minutes when the shows finish, the YC "priority lift" was superb. Simply insert your card and press the YC button and the lift would bypass other floors and come straight to you. Insert the card inside the lift and it will whisk you off to your chosen floor too. Our cabin (16004) was large, clean and functional but did lack drawer space. The tiny TV in the corner of the room was not good and the balcony was a let down as we were at the front of the ship and could not see much due to the slope of the walls. We've had better cabins. I've read many complaints about the Buffet. When you enter, the seating is always full and the food stations bustling with people. Yet, if you walk farther down, you will find more and more food and ample seating all around. Did those complaining actually bother to walk down there? I would agree that the food needs to be warmer - hot would be nice but I'd happily settle for warm. It seems to be like this on every cruise ship buffet. I have to say that we thought Yacht Club was great; if we wanted the fuss of a butler walking us to dinner or a show we could have it. Had we wanted them at our call throughout the day, Im sure they would have been happy to oblige. We were just content in knowing the service we received was excellent and, had we asked for more, they would have provided it without question. So, do we cruise MSC again? - definitely within Yacht Club but definitely not if we were elsewhere on the ship. BUT you have to remember that for the price you can have 3 MSC cruises compared to just 2 with other cruise lines so consider the cost saving when you set your expectations. Read Less

We. Wanted to see this part of the world and the price was very reasonable . But as always you get what you pay for. The Bora Bora Buffet was the poorest selection of food we have encountered onboard . The food was Luke warm at best , it reminded me of a school canteen, what they professed to be omelets were cooked en mass and folded into rectangles on display ready to be selected however they must be on display for eons as they were barely warm and very gloopy and tasteless, In a nutshell food is poor . The breakfast juices were squash and not fresh juice . The balcony was so small it contained 2 very small chairs and a wicker table about a foot square and that filled the balcony space . My husband was very impressed with the gym , the bar servers in the Splendida bar were very attentive and cheerful . Although the entertainment in the main area on level 5 varied from an absolutely stupendous opera singer , and very good classical duo , to a mediocre Roberto with his guitar , Read Less

I chose the cruise because i heard that it would good. To my dismay the service was bad, the staff over worked, food was terrible. The drinks package which we had was not worth it as most of the bars are closed all the time. I strongly think msc needs to treat their staff better so that would be more productive. The rooms are not properly and hygienically cleaned. There were no themed nights on board and absolutely minimum entertainment compared to other cruise liners and considering it was a christmas cruise one would expect more from this. I will never go again as i was terribly disappointed. I would really appreciate feedback from this experience as there were many people on board from all different countries that had the same view as me. They all were very disappointed with the cruise on a whole and totally expected a better deal. Read Less

Just got back form a 6 night med cruise on this ship, Embarkation and disembarkation went as well as expected. In the main the ship was nice, the public areas are good and clean. Cabins (we were in 11210) was very nice. Dinning:- The buffet. This was probably the best food you will find on the ship and the best for selection. If you like your coffee I'd would recommend the coffee package (about £25 for about 20 coffees) as the coffee in the machines is a little cheap, drinkable but not that nice. As someone else has mentioned on the forum you don't get spoons just wooden sticks. Allocated Dinning:- The menu was not that good. Food was never that warm. One example of the main meal. I ordered a lasagna but when it came you go what you ordered lasagna no garnish, nothing just a lump of lasagne in the middle of an empty plate not very imaginative. The service and the staff:- I personally found them very nice, my philosophy is if your pleasant to them your pleasant to you. The cabin stewards was always a pleasure to talk to and he did a great job. Out on board:- all good there clean tidy, one of the main gripes is that you couldn't walk round the whole of the outside (walking deck) of the ship as you can on other cruise liners. Read Less

MSC Splendida We stayed on the MSC Splendida for one week! The experiences was from positive through to negative. The negative feeling after the trip unfortunately prevailed: it was our first and last cruise and we could not wait to leave the ship at the end. In general: The Splendida is an imposing and beautiful ship, which has a lot to offer. It appears neat and clean. It was also constantly cleaned and small maintenance work was done. From check-in to check-out all the procedures were quite well organized, which is important with thousands of people on board. At the inspection of the hand luggage my small scissors were taken. It was not a big one, but a small one of an "Ikea triopac". I know that safety is paramount, also to my mind. For a flight, taking away scissors would also have some logic. Here, however, this really made absolutely no sense. After the security check we were told to go straight to the cabin, where the checked-in luggage is waiting. In the latter, I could have taken these scissors on board without difficulty, and afterwards also from the cabin. Knives are in every restaurant, easily accessible which could easily be taken with you and were no less dangerous than these little scissors. About the cabin: Our balcony cabin was pleasant and functional. The bathroom was small but had everything you needed. The shower should be equipped with a Plexiglas pane, since it is small and the curtain At night, it was hardly really quiet. In addition to the normal vibrations / noise of the ship (which didn’t really disturb you), it was always loud in the aisles, the people took little consideration, and were loud, laughed, talked, stomped, etc… even after midnight. Our cabin was also close to a freight door, over which baggage was offloaded from guests, who disembarked at the next port. I could only sleep with earplugs. About the entertainment: The entertainment on board was really good. The various bars have a wide range of beverages and with the all-inclusive drinking package you can really enjoy it. This drinking package is only worthwhile from a consumption of 26 euros+ / person. If you only drink non-alcoholic beverages or coffee, leave your fingers away from it. There were daily shows at "The Strand Theater", which were really great and the performers did a good job. Also at the bars and cafés singers, musicians and animators cared for a pleasant atmosphere. It was never boring on board. Excursions and co .: We did not make any excursions - except the bus ride from Civitavecchia to Rome, since Rome is not directly at the port. We also did not use the shuttle buses provided by MSC to the city centers. These cost between 12 and 15 euros / per person. However, there were always public transport and other alternatives for a total of 3-4 euros / person. The staff - the staff: Most are friendly and helpful. I would like to especially mention "Putra and Orland" who were outstandingly professional and friendly and served us at our dinner-restaurant. Also "Jane Rose" has enhanced our stay with her friendly smile and professional manner. Thank you very much at this point for your great work on a very busy ship. You always have a great commitment and professional attitude. We also have a good memory of Sweta, Martin, Vanessa Dsouza, Nadonza Romano, Gomez Erick. Thank you so much for making our stay worthwile. Unfortunately, we also had negative experiences with employees, especially in busy Bora-Bora / Pago-Pago Restaurant. We have always ordered our drinks from the all-inclusive-Bar-Menu. We waited patiently, waved nicely, asked politely and were not impatient. Nevertheless, we got annoyed looks or our ordering was taken without any conversation on their part. Drinks were given, the cruise card was handed back and they turned away without words. These here are little flaws but they add up and immensely disturb a good experience. Also, one of the officers of the Ship-Inlet-Checkpoint was impatient and had a rude tone without reason! Like I said, security is important but doesn’t necessarily exclude friendly treatment of passengers - especially if they behave, are ready and do not cause any disturbances or interruptions. The Bora-Bora self-service restaurant: Good pizzas, good food, large salad buffet, Unfortunately too many negative experiences. This restaurant was so crowded that it was almost quite loud everywhere. To my taste it was too crowded. Opening-times obviously also do count. In the daily program leaflet, the breakfast buffet was announced to be open until 11.30 a.m.. At 10: 30 already the first buffets were cleared. At 10:45 all the salad buffets were gone and empty. When I asked, I was told that it would have to be cleared up earlier, because of early arrival at the port. Given times should also be adhered. I would not have expected all the buffets to be open but something of everything should be available until closing time. One of the waiters asked a "chef" for me for a bit of salad, but he just curtly said "No, there is no more salad". At 11:15 I wanted to order an espresso and I pressed the "Service-Button" at the table. The part of the of the restaurant I sat had already calmed down. I heard the call tone of the waiter's watch but he simply kept on sweeping the floor. After a while I called again and the clock was beeping again, the waiter did not react to it. I then got up, and politely asked for an espresso in person. The answer: "This bar has already closed". He then reluctantly went to the other bar to get one for me. Ultimately, I got everything, but unfortunately only with detours, delays and a bad feeling. But the best surprise came at the end of our cruise: In the last night of our cruise our bill was slipped through under the door with quite a surprise. We knew, that only 90.- euro for the parking had yet to be paid and all drinks were included in the drinking-package. The amount of the bill was 232.- euro. They charged euro 10.- / person for "service fees" and another EUR 2.- for UNICEF. The Unicef donation is no problem. The service fee though - in our case 7 days, each 20 euros - was not obviously stated at the time of booking. It was anything but transparent. It may have been stated in the terms and conditions or in the contract but I find such hidden costs completely out of order! I complained and the fees were cancelled. I was told that this is stated in the contract and only MSC would cancel the charges on request (?!?!?). I am fine with service charges, but then only when stated openly and transparently at the booking and not snuck in via terms and condition or the fine print of a contract. This said: On the day of departure we could hardly wait to leave the ship! Read Less

Genoa seven day Western Med 23 September 2017 Firstly i was conscious to book outside school holidays to have a more relaxing cruise. Was hesitant to book with this cruise line after reading some reviews and looking at food on You Tube. How wrong i was. Been on the Celebrity Solstice around NZ. Found the dinning room food to be sub standard. two out of ten and the Celebrity Equinox around the med seven out of ten. Overall the MSC Splendida had better food than the Celebrity cruises. The variety was amazing and the healthy food section was a big bonus. The deserts were superior to Celebrity. Boarding was easy from Genoa one of my favourite cities in Italy however the baggage collection signage was poor at the port. We found it eventually well to the West of the embarkation area. The staff was amazing. Kept to themselves were very courteous unlike the Celebrity staff that seemed to be in your room far too often.. This is a beautiful ship around the same age as the Celebrity Solstice. Rooms and ship in general were very well maintained better than the Solstice. Few areas of worn carpet near busy door ways needed attention. Easy fix. Entertainment excellent. Better than Celebrity Loved all the ports in the Western Med except Valencia being only average. I love Italy, my favourite country and i love Italian people who make up a large portion of the Australian population. Can the MSC management tell all Australians why they don't allow Australians to book on Vacations to Go at a reduced rate while other races can.?????. Horrible. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it visited all but one places we had not been to. Having travelled on the MSC Opera we knew what to expect and then it was a good trip with the only short falls being the way it catered for mainly non-UK guests. Embarkation went reasonably well, very very busy at Valencia, people jostling about and queue jumping, checking in cases then queueing again. Disembarkation very fast and the best we have had. All very efficient considering the 4000 plus passengers involved. We had a deck 10 port side cabin with balcony and enjoyed nearly every port with a city view. The cabin was roomy with very plush fittings maybe due for an update in some areas but had everything you need except drinks hot making facilities, due to kettles being a fire hazard. Our cabin had very noisy neighbours, with children playing football and screeching, fortunately they left a th first port. Not too sure about the constant smoking on other balconies and in various areas including the casino not being a fire hazard. Very bad if you a non smoker. The smoke invades a huge portion of a few bars. This is a beautifully appointed ship with elegance and flair in all areas. Plenty of places to relax. The main dining rooms are cram packed and most have tables for 6 or 8. If you want to dine as a couple you need to either go to the very very busy Bora Bora deck 14 buffet, or pay extra at the other Tex Mex or upgrade to Aurea for my-time dining. Dining times were either 7pm of 9.45pm in either the Reggio or as we had the Villa Verde smaller restaurant. Three course meals in the evening, small portions but a reasonable choice even for vegetarian diners.the gala dinners weren't any different. Forget it if you want pie and chips, this cruise line caters for Mediterranean tastes and has a huge range of food on offer in the Deck 14 buffets. Burgers, pizzas, hotdogs too but plenty of salads and some healthy food choices. The food whilst always plentiful was not the same quality we had a few years ago. I can understand the industry tightening their belts. The last river cruise food quality made this seem like a poor relation in the serviced restaurants. One thing that shines here more than anything is the exceptional quality of service from an incredibly hard working mainly Indonesian staff. The Italian staffed higher ranking positions were occupied by a very hit and miss bunch. You could be lucky and then most times had very brusque service. This service on both levels were the same on both cruises. There were an amazing amount of very young children on board, and the noise levels were exceptionally high if you are used to quiet dining and pub,if areas. The entertainment in the theatre was varied, certainly not to my tastes and last 30 minutes. Not high quality west end stuff as on some other cruise lines. The bars and lounges had good singers and musicians playing middle of the road pleasant listening tunes. Plenty of activities of varying levels We had a drinks package that included non branded drinks in all restaurants and bars and at £20 per person per day prepaid seems expensive but when you add up a few colas and a few coffees and a couple of alcoholic tipples it's easily the cheapest option, we were hugely in profit at the end of our cruise. The policy is to bring no alcohol on board at any time and is heavily policed at each port. Plenty of people having it confiscated to be returned at disembarkation. We had prebooked a couple of excursions mainly due to time. They are always an expensive option on most ships but a good way to get a taster if you can't be bothered. The shuttle buses are a good earner, some are worth saving you a very long walk...some not. You can't always tell where the ship will dock but due to the size of most it will be a good way away from the city, exception being the home port of MSC in Genoa. Would I use MSC again? probably not. My idea of a cruise is of a more leisurely nature and a fine dining experience with excursions included and this was none of them. There are plenty of other cruise lines that for the same money give a far superior experience. Read Less

We got the Fantastica experience that included 12 drinks per passenger. Even though it was in MSC's computer system, we did not get the drink vouchers as we embarked. For one reason or another the reception staff couldn't take care of the issue right away and we had to make 3 trips to the reception desk. However, that was the only issue we had. Ship: It was immaculate. Very beautiful. We liked sitting at the lobby as it was the most stunning place. Our cabin was the same as we had in other cruises. Our stewardess was always friendly and asking if we needed anything. There are no urinals in the men's bathrooms. The elevators were also packed in the evenings. We had to take the stairs most of the time, but we welcomed the exercise. Dining: We were assigned to La Reggia. We had Alejandro as a waiter, from Honduras, and he was as good as it gets. The ceviche appetizer was great as well as most meals. Only a couple of times we found some fish dishes not that great. The portions were small, but you can always order more food. We, instead, would go for a nice fresh slice of pizza at the buffet, when necessary. We also used the buffet for breakfast and I found a couple of things that I really liked. The ship was at full capacity, but we always found an empty table. Entertainment: There were 3 or 4 after dinner shows we enjoyed, such as space Odyssey. The shows were 30 minutes long. Most nights, at 11:45PM the entertainment team had funny activities at the Aft lounge. The lounge was always packed for these activities, and hard to see anything if you get there late. Bars: We usually found ourselves having coffee or drinks at La Piazzetta. We also liked the Purple Jazz bar and the sports bar. On the other hand, La Prua piano bar was uncomfortable with all the cigarette smoke coming up from the casino. I found the drink prices standard as most places. Entertainers sang/played mostly popular English songs. Kids Club: My children, 10 and 11, found the kids activities in their group geared toward the younger ones. So they would spend most of the time with us or at the pools. As a parent, I found the kids club staff very nice and accommodating. My kids looked forward to the sail away and foam parties at the water park, animated by the entertainment team. Photos: Buy the $100 package before you sail. They do not have it available during the cruise. We made the mistake of not buying it before hand. Once in the ship, you have to negotiate. I liked how Royal Caribbean had photographers as you exit the ship at each port. MSC did not have them. Wellness: My wife got her hair done and a massage. She was very satisfied and they had decent prices. Ports: We loved all the ports. We were among the first to come out to the port and the last to come back in. In Valencia and Marseille, it was cheaper and more convenient for the 4 of us to take a taxi than to buy the MSC downtown shuttle. We paid 15€ for a taxi each way for 4, instead of 46€ (2 adults and 2 kids) round trip with MSC, and we could get the taxi to go back anywhere, instead of walking back to the rendezvous place. We always went on our own and did not buy any excursions through MSC as we found them expensive. Overall, we had an amazing time. We experienced excellent service all around the ship. We don't speak Italian, but made several Italian friends. Compared to Royal Caribbean, we found some things better at MSC and some better at RC, but that was fine with us. We accepted the differences and got our money's worth. I will sail with MSC again. Read Less

This was my second cruise with MSC (first one was in August 2014 on Fantasia). We travelled with 2 kids (aged 4 and 2) and I missed having a specific pool were families with small children could stay (with deck chairs, bar, etc). The small covered kid's pool in most of the time in the shadow and the water is cold. The opening times of the kids' club for children under 3 is really scarce. The food, on the contrary, was varied and healthy. Service in general terms was much better on my first experience with MSC; this time I have not felt that cruise members were so helpful, gentle and implicated (staff at kid's club, cabin, waiters, etc). The night entertainment can be improved (in particular the Theater spectacles). The itinerary too (many of the destination were not really worth visiting). The cabin, the common areas and the food are really good. The main hall really impressive. Read Less

Fully stocked mini bar topped up every day for free, which along with the endless drinks package is always good......boat was on time to every port with long enough port stays to see the highlights of each town....variety of bars.....with a couple of fairly decent singers...... Yacht club fine dining was exceptional....overall an amazing 7 day cruise and relaxing time as it was after 2 weeks in Netherlands and before 5 weeks we were spending around Italy......was a little apprehensive prior to getting there as we have done 4 cruise but never with MSC..we were told they were "ok"...well id say more than ok....I would cruise with MSC anytime any where, especially on this boat. Please do not take this cruise. My family went on this cruise and while there were some positive experiences with the destinations we visited, breakfast buffet and turndown service there were to many things negative. The customer service on the ship was just ridiculous, elevators became unusable due to there limited capacity and the shops overcrowdedness, the pools on the ship were small and packed without a shallow end. Everything costs extra, even a small little cone of gelato was several euros. Not a nice cruise, unless you get your room for a very reduced rate don’t waiste your time money or sanity. I made a formal complaint with MSC and they never replied. I also reported our dissatisfaction to Expedia and they too did not reply. The service rep who took care of our rooms twice a day was attentive and very thorough and for that I am thankful Read Less

It was a family trip. Embarkation and disembarkation were fine and everything was very well organized. Ship. Everything was in very good condition. At this point I have a small complaint that the temperature was too low inside, considering that we were wearing bathsuits and sometimes wet. I got a cold during the trip because of this. Cabin. The cabin was fine, everything very new and comfortable Dining. The quality and service was very good. The service on diners was superb. I have to say it was a bit chaotic for lunches, with crowded buffet on the top deck and it was difficult to find a table. Also in the buffet there were less waiters than needed and sometimes it took us a long time to get our drinks. Entertaintment. The look of everything was great but my feeling is that there were too many people for the top deck pools. Most of my family liked entertaintment in the theater, even if it was not my cup of tea. The party in the top deck on the night of Mallorca was superb and we enjoyed it very much. *** I have a BIG COMPLAINT about arcade games, where my 14 year old son spent a big amount of money just using his card withought knowing. I think children shouldn't be allowed to spend money without their parents permission and more explicit warning. Service. It was very good ingeneral. Specially waiters during the dinner. Ports. I liked most of them except Palermo. Excursions were very good. Children had an exceptional time. From the four members of my family kids would like to do it again but for adults I think we wouldn't do it again. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation went surprisingly smoothly. Cabin was adequate but we couldn't enjoy balcony due to chain smokers on next balcony. Unfortunate because husband got quite ill with bronchitis and URI and were quarantined on day 6. MSC says smoking isn't tolerated on balconies but maids apparently missed clue of ash tray on balcony. Bed was comfortable. Food was below average. Both in restaurant and in buffet. Buffet was way out of control. Seemed like a shark feeding frenzy each and every day. The idea of forming a line was foreign. Even had someone grab a utensil out of my hand as I reached for it. Dining room was way too crowded. Table we were at was in pathway of waitstaff and chair kept getting pushed as they crammed through. Entertainment was not quite high school quality. Excursions were far too rushed. No time to enjoy surroundings as keeping up with guides was a job itself. We found this on all the excursions we went on. Medical staff was good. Medical center was clean and efficient. Costs there were very reasonable. Had to drink tap water unless we wanted to pay for alcohol package. 12 coupons for drinks came with package. One night at dinner I decided I wanted a gin and tonic. No, I was told, I have to get that in bar. Next night stopped on way to bar to get one to take to dinner. No, I was told , I couldn't take drink out of bar. After I rolled my eyes they "relented" and gave me the gin and tonic in a different glass (?) Would never cruise this line again Read Less

Far from the maddening crowds we selected Yacht Club for this cruise and wasn't disappointed. We were spoilt rotten by the attention and the care we received from the crew and members of the staff. We found the experience gratifying in every sense having sailed on this beautiful ship a couple of times before and have enjoyed every cruise we have been on. If there was a criticism they should vary the itinerary of the ship a little I have been to all the ports of call and done most of the excursions. As for the ship it was clean and well maintained we never felt crowded and always found a space to eat and when were were on deck there was plenty of sun loungers available with fresh towels. The bars held a broad selection for drinks and there was food always available. We were so impressed we have booked another cruise with MSC on the Meraviglia in the Yacht Club just to see if the experience can be beaten. Loved every moment of the cruise. Read Less

Since friends and I were already in Italy we decided to try a Eurocentric cruise. Our travel agent suggested MSC and we booked the Splendida from June 11th through June 17th. We found to our surprise that many things that are covered on American cruise lines were considered extra by MSC. We were nickel and dimed to death on this cruise. We wound up spending $700 more than we expected to by the end. I hasten to say we did not take any excursions because they were outrageously expensive. I also didn't appreciate being charged $40 each day for service charges. On American cruise lines WE decide how much each service person will get based on the service they gave us, with MSC we were just charged outright. Several of the stops were nothing special like Genoa which was a dump and Palermo which was also a dump. I don't like mineral water and was only given an allowance for two bottles of mineral water a day. When I tried to substitute regular water I was charged extra. Kids were out-of-control on the pool levels so as an adult I couldn't enjoy any time at the pool. My bathroom smelled like a sewer and the outlet didn't work. The food available at the daily buffet was greasy and the hamburgers were soyburgers. The Santa Fe Tex Mex restaurant had really substandard food which we paid extra for. As an American I found the entire cruise to be disappointing and can say with confidence that the Disney Cruise Line is far superior. Read Less

I have just finished a cruise with your company on MSC Splendida from the 1 June-8 June sailing round the Med. I must say you have some excellent staff onboard. A special mention must be made of Francis Dilip and Michael Santos, two members of staff at Aperitivo Bar. They were both courteous and conscientious even when the bar got really busy. Nothing was too much trouble for these two guys. The ship was excellent and immaculately clean throughout our stay. The only drawback for me is as the ship is very large there were a lot of people cruising on there and certain areas of the ship were very busy, which wasn't always comfortable. The entertainment could have been better. The showings at the cinema were not to my individual taste. The area round the swimming pools got really busy too as can be expected with the amount of passengers onboard. Read Less

I have just recently returned from a cruise on board the MSC Splendida. I travelled with my partner and our 2 boys aged 10 and 7. We did the Mediterranean cruise from Genoa for 7 nights 27th May – 3rd June. We have cruised with MSC once before, last year on the MSC Preziosa so knew exactly what to expect. The Splendida is practically exactly the same except for some different themed bars etc. The ship looks great, very clean with some lovely areas. We again chose the Aurea experience, we all like the choice of ice creams, drinks (cocktails) and the my choice dining. The included massage is also very welcome, we walked a very long way through the week. The weather was absolutely fantastic all week. We made use of the main pool area on the top deck and the kids enjoyed the pool and made some friends through the week. They also enjoyed the water slide although on a couple of days it was out of service. We usually had no problems with sun beds. There was often entertainment. A snow\foam party and a dj when leaving Cagliari which we thought was great. Our cabin was very nice on deck 12 near the front, the sofa always converted to a bed and back again when we were out and kept very clean. The food was also very good in the restaurant with a very good selection. The kids had the choice of the children’s menu or the normal menu or something from both which they often done. We also chose breakfast in bed one morning which was delivered on time and very nice. I did chose cereal for the kids expecting this to come with milk but it didn’t. It seems I should of also ticked the option for milk, the kids wasn’t happy with me! So it was off to the buffet for 2nd breakfast. The ports of call were all very nice, on some days there was free port shuttle buses and on others it was close enough to walk or a paid service provided by MSC. These are often expensive, with the 4 of us it’s cheaper to get a taxi, and much easier too. For example the bus to Marseille would have cost the best part of 60 euro for 2 adults and 2 kids but a taxi was 20 each way. Another option is to walk to a bus stop and catch a public bus for a few Euros each. We never done any of the excursions, we chose to do this all on our own. We had fun exploring. We did do a 3-4 seater 3-wheeler thing tour of Palermo for 35 Euros. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but was great fun. The driver whizzing through the streets and traffic stopping at all the key points of interest for the chance for a photo or to get out and take a look. There is plenty of entertainment on the ship; we didn’t do any of the shows this year. We just didn’t find the time. The kids only spent an hour or 2 at kids club; they didn’t really go much on it. I think they preferred to be with us and messing around in the pools and slide and making friends. We purchased the cabin entertainment pass for unlimited use of the F1 sim, 4d simulator and the bowling; this had gone up from last years 55 on the Preziosa to 80 euro. The kids love the bowling and probably between them had about 70 games through the week and at 6 Euros a player offers good value. It was also fun for a couple games with a beer, it’s not a full size alley. They also enjoyed the 4d sim and made use of that. The f1 car is also very good but on a couple of days it wasn’t working and on others had no sound. I think I only went on it once were it was working properly which was a shame. The f1 sim on the Preziosa is better in my opinion. We also were able to borrow a football and have a kick about in the sports area. The staff were mostly very friendly and polite, remembering our names. The restaurant Maitre d’ only letting the kids eat if they could tell him the cabin number in Italian. They enjoyed this banter. There was one waitress who remembered us from the Preziosa last year. We had a great week on the Splendida, fantastic weather and some nice places visited. It was certainly good enough to come back home and book up for August 2018 on the MSC Seafront. We all can’t wait. Read Less

I am from Maryland, USA and my wife and I wanted to celebrate our 25 year anniversary in style. You definitely want to get the upgraded suite, we were in room 12226 at rear of ship but on right side. Sun rises were excellent. The room was so large more than 200 SF! With a walk in closet bigger than ours at home. My wife Anita is so jeolous and wants a bigger closet now! LOL. There are people that like to take your spot inline, but in front of you, take your pool chair, etc. But if you stick up, speak up, and tell them no, they will back down. I had a guy butt up to the front of the line to see the host at the registration desk and I told him, that I had been waiting for over 10 minutes and to go to the back of the line. I had a guy steal my pool lounge chair while my wife and I walked around the ship for like 15 minutes. When I got back to my chair I noticed that my towel had been move over to my wife's chair and my chair was slid over to another group. I confronted the gentleman and he said he was sorry and was willing to give me back my chair but I just told him no thank you. Just stick to your guns and you will be fine. We loved the shows, The Vatican, all the churches, I spend $750 upfront on excursions for my wife and me, the first excursion was in Geno and it was the open bus one (it was terrible, the driver flew through the tour, the bus was old, the earpiece plugs into the bus and is not clear to hear, waste of money (But the Aquarium is a must! Unbelievable aquarium, (we have an aquarium in downtown Baltimore but this one has to be four times as large!) etc.. Definitely want to get the drink package, you can not afford not to! And buy it now. Do not wait to get the drink package, on the ship, they hit you up for 15% gratuity and people were trying to fill bottles with water from the dining room. Come on, people it cost money to go on vacation, spent and stop being so cheap!!! The food is not as good as Royal Caribbean. There is no assigned seating but there is assigned dining hall for your cabin and only two seating times available. So I suggest getting the Flex time package where you can go to dinner anytime between 7 PM and 10 PM. Also if you do not feel like eating at the restaurant hall, they only have one other location to eat at and that cost money called Tex Mex restaurant. It costs roughly $20 to $55 euros (for two people total) to get a decent meal there. Oh and the per deim per day per person for gratuity is added automatically to the bill but it is not $7 euros it is now $10 euros! As least for my room! The food was not spectacular. Wife and I got a tour of the spa and fitness center and we both got a free message with our package so I gave my wife both of them. The spa has spectacular views from the front of the ship on 15th floor. We got in the hot tub and it was crouded, the pool temperature on May 23rd 2017 was cool. Felt like 65 degrees. Wife and I do not have kids but the cruise did not have that many kids thank God. Read Less
