On the boat they are constantly trying to sell you addition services. For example, when we were dining someone came up to use trying to sell a steak plate for an additional 25 euro. This was insulting as we were dining in the restaurant. On check-out we had to contribute 70 Euro per person as a service charge (for what we do not know) and they automatically put in our contribution to Unicef. I do not need a third party to force me to contribute to charity. The staff were friendly but at one point they said we had ordered too many drinks on our package. We had the unlimited drinks package and this is what you get. This company is very tricky and once on the boat expect to be a victim to their attempts to extract money from you. For example, the photographer will come up to your group take photos and later you may purchase these for 35 Euro each. We were so tired of being asked all the time. We will not travel with MSC ever again Read Less

Firs the positive, the embarkation was smooth. But the company lacks in communications with the guests. It has no processes to keep the guests engaged after they book the cruise. They live in an old world where communications with your customers was nil. But the most important point is they bring in your luggage in batches. So you will get some pieces first and for the rest you will have to wait till the ship sets sailing. My bag which contained toiletries and shoes etc did not arrive even after we checked in at 12.30 am, the earliest time one could check in. I complained, but the cruise officials were not helpful. They said it would take time and they cant help. Second, if you have purchased internet, good luck to you. The speed sucks. They cant do anything about the speed. Third, there is iron for basic pressing in the room. If your clothes have wrinkles, there is nothing you can do but give them to the laundry for ironing. It will cost your a princely 4.90 euros for a dress. Overall, not so good experience on day one. I will do a full review after the cruise. This is just the initial impressions. Read Less

As a very experienced cruise, thought we would try MSC. Never again, worst cruise line ever, nothing good to say about it. Service not existant in all areas Food served warm, never hot Cabin staff very rude Staff just walk into your cabin without knocking No point in complaining as you just get fobbed off with false promises and actions Muster drills at nearly every port, where all bars are closed for over an hour They feel a woman singing Queen songs is entertaining. Bad enough it was a woman, but she could not even sing. Elvis impressionist walking around was a joke There is not one thing i enjoyed on this cruise. Complained again to MSC when home, but they just give excuses. Took my money, but delivered nothing! They should not be allowed to get away with it Steer well clear of MSC if you want an enjoyable cruise. Read Less

My wife and I embarked on the MSC Fantasia on December 8, 2018, on a cruise that departed from Rio de Janeiro, heading for Buenos Aires, returning to Punta Del Este and Ilha Grande. The trip was my wife's birthday present, and what should have been of the dreams turned out to be a big disappointment. But I prefer to start with the good points: the cabin cleaning service was excellent, the waiters and, in general, the employees who occupied the most humble functions, mostly of Asian or Brazilian origin were kind and helpful, Chinese cooks and cooks, rude and moody. As for food, raw fruits and vegetables were of good quality. In addition, the trip was limited to delays, exaggerated mercantilism, bad food, animation and mediocre shows. Starting the week before the departure of the cruise. Affordable drink packages, which went on sale on the internet that were no longer cheap, were taken from the site. These same packages, traditionally also sold at the time of shipment, this time were not offered, being offered only on the ship for abusive prices. On delays, these occurred in all shipments and landings, damaging the stays in the scheduled ports, which were no longer long. The departure, scheduled for 5:00 pm, only happened around 8:00 pm, after an 8-hour wait in an uncomfortable terminal with huge queues for baggage check-in, entrance to the terminal, passage through the police and access to the ship. On the way from Rio to Buenos Aires, there was an unforeseen event. One passenger who needed medical attention had to be removed by helicopter, which entailed an additional 2 hours delay. The arrival in Buenos Aires scheduled for 9:00 am on December 13, only happened at 5:00 p.m., and we were only able to leave the ship at 7:00 p.m. A stop originally scheduled for the entire day of arrival plus the night and the half of the following day was reduced to the night of arrival, plus half the next day, harming both passengers who purchased excursions and those who planned independent tours and purchases . In Punta Del Este it was worse, in the landing made by boats that should be ready to transport the passengers, since the small time of stay on land, made us wait more than 2 hours, using a minimum number of boats, shortening the duration of the excursions and making it impossible to land many passengers who had to stay on the ship. Finally, having already compensated for all delays, the commander informs the cancellation of the landing in Ilha Grande, alleging bad weather and anticipating the arrival in Rio scheduled for December 16 at 7am, to December 15 at 9pm, unilaterally crediting the cabin bill, ridiculous $ 100 ($ 50 per person) without a simple apology. At the landing, in another giant row, I, who turned 60 this year, was prevented from entering the preferential line, since, according to the MSC employee, the queue was reserved for people over 65, contrary to Brazilian law . In the luggage shed, we took out our suitcase, without anyone having checked our tag number. In addition, I can summarize: - Second-class meats, served at the buffet and restaurant, except on the last day they served a better menu. - "Grilled" dipped in oil and sausages of very low quality. - Service charge charged on drinks taken at the counter, although this is already included in the ticket price. - Net price of drink charged on the order above that set in the menu (in my case, wine glasses). - Repetitive theater shows, always with the same numbers of juggling and acrobatics, changing only the costumes and songs. To conclude, I decided to make this trip under the influence of my brother who lives in Europe and made several cruises there, including MSC and was surprised by what happened and commented that incidents such as these reported would never be accepted, but with a large financial compensation or with significant All this burden caused by delays, lack of planning and logistics incompatibility was passed on from the company to the customer. The conclusion that I have reached is that these companies organize their trips according to the classification of passengers, and unfortunately for them, we are considered second class citizens and we are also reserved 2nd treatment, either in food, in shows or in treatment dispensed, which causes me great indignation to consider that this treatment was given to us in our yard. I advise anyone who has never done a cruise to not buy routes in Brazil or South America, because it will buy remains from Europe where it is winter and these ships would be idle if they stayed there. They sell their trips for the same price charged there and offer a misleading and low quality product. If you want stewardship, go to an "all inclusive" resort, or travel through Brazil or abroad and truly short the cities and beaches without time limitation, choosing your tours, accommodations, food and with much less probability of unforeseen. But if you still insist on taking a cruise, avoid this company. Read Less

We have cruised about 15 times prior to this cruise so we knew what to expect. Our embarkation went smoothly in Barcelona, but no amount of prior cruising knowledge could prepare you for this cruise. Our room was probably the best part of our cruise. We paid for an inside room and received a balcony. The beds were clean and the bathroom was adequate. There was gum all along the cupboard and the TV cut out right before our 5 straight sea days when MSC decided to give everyone 10 free movies. After calling front desk more than once and them never sending anyone to look at the TV we told the cabin attendant as a last resort. The TV never ended up working. In the barfet (previously known as the buffet) we saw an Italian woman holding a banana up to her ear pretending to talk to MSC staff... nothing could sum up this cruise better than that image I have of her doing that. No one is there to listen, you might as well be talking into a banana. The barfet itself was just as the name implies. We had pizza every day (which was actually pretty good for ship pizza) as everything else was cold or inedible. The desserts were so unappetizing I may have lost a few pounds on this cruise. The barfet repeated the meals pretty much daily. You could consider yourself lucky if you didn’t get pushed out of the way while waiting in line for food by the hungry Portuguese, and even luckier if you could find a seat that wasn’t all the way at the back. If you try ordering water from the back bar they give you a hard time trying to convince you that you’re only allowed to at the other bar. The water at dinner was a whole other story. We have cruised only this once with MSC (and believe me this is the last time) and we received bottled water every night at dinner. Our dinner mates however weren’t so fortunate. They have cruised with MSC multiple times now and MSC couldn’t even supply them with one bottle of water every night. We ended up sharing ours with them and eventually they even started bringing their own water. We have never seen a cruise line that doesn’t provide water at dinner. The dining room experience was much better than the barfet as the food was actually proper temperature. The waiters were very accommodating despite everything falling apart around them. We missed the drill on the first day. We read in the newsletter when it would be taking place so we waited for an announcement in our room but it never came. Turns out they made one announcement but it was only heard in the hallway. We then got a letter to attend the next day but it was during the time of one of our excursions. We never made it to the drill. Our cruise friends met this woman with a rash. They decided to tell the ships doctor about it as it was contagious. We went down there with them and got there at 2 pm. The doctor was not there until 4 pm. We had the unfortunate experience of talking to the nurse. I’m convinced she was the was the most incompetent worker on this entire ship. She told us MSC can’t do anything about it, if she wants to come down to get it checked out she can. They asked what if it spreads to other passengers? She opened the door for us and told us to leave. We were so disgusted with the experience we told front desk. They told us to fill out a form... it never got acknowledged. After reading other reviews I should’ve known better not to expect any call back. As far as entertainment goes, we did trivia a few of the days. One day one of the women cheated. The next day we got the same amount right as the winners of trivia (7/10) and the entertainment staff didn’t acknowledge that we won (they took our paper to mark). We asked to see it and she refused. Clearly the English speaking guests were on the back burner. I can’t say the shows were much better. They ended up repeating a lot of the acts. The excursions were ok... a little disorganized but that is to be expected from MSC. We left an hour late for the 6 hour drive (3 there, 3 back) to Marrakech. We also had no free time there.. all very structured. On the ride back there was no stops for bathroom during the whole 3 hours, and no bathroom on the bus. For another excursion in Ilheus, they took us to a beach with Portuguese man of war (one of the most dangerous jellyfish), seems like they wanted one less person at the barfet. Our third excursion we got taken to the city in Tenerife. There was no way they could mess up dropping us off in the city, right? Wrong... as our bus pulled off to head back to the ship, the tour guide realized she left two passengers behind. The only reason she realized it was because they were running up to the bus. The elevators play tricks with you, it is really just better to take the stairs on this cruise. Not that you’ll be eating much since the barfet doesn’t have many options. This cruise would make a good cruise if you’re looking to go on a diet. All in all, we won’t be cruising with MSC again. Read Less

All in all a very negative Experience: - Cabin sold for 4 People (2 Adults + 2 Child), but equipped just with a Double Bed + a Sofa that becomes a 1 and half Bed. If the Child are Teenagers (like in our Case), you can easily imagine that there is no Space for everybody. We asked for a Solution: we are now (Sept 2018) still waiting for a Solution when the Cruise ended 1 Week ago... No Words. - We bought the Package "Beverage All-Included" but what we drink from Cabin Frigo Bar is not included (even if Products are exactly the same) and they charged us on the final Bill. - In our "Auria Experience" Package we had the Breakfast in the Room included. We asked for it for the last Day because we had to leave the Room at 8:00, we booked it for 7:30, at 7:50 no Breakfast was in the Room, we called to ask and the said: "For the last they is not included, sorry". What????? And why no one informed about that??? Why they brought us regularly the Format to ask for it???? Unbelievable, a disgraceful Service. - Last but not least, the last Day we were asked to leave the Cabin at 8:00, but our Meeting Time was at 13:45 (almost 6 hours later in which we were going up and down in the Boat like Gipsy...). At 13:45 we were at the Meeting Point but someone collected us just at 14:30, they brought us under the Sun outside the Boat, but the Bus was not there. It arrives just at 15:00. Net-net = 7 Hours lost for nothing, staying on the Boat without Luggage, without a Room available, under the Sun in the Port, treated like Animals... no Words. All in all, please invest your Money better, and not at all in MSC because even with Aurea Experience, they are not interested in you as a Customer, but just as a stupid Number who pays!!!! Read Less

The disappointment started with the embarkation. The process did not go smoothly at all. I have an injured left leg and should not walk for far lengths. The airport provided a wheelchair and the cruiseline said they would provide a wheelchair as well. When I got there, there was not chair for me. The women say my orthotic boot and gave me Priority Boarding. The issue it, there was absolutely no crown control. There was ONE line for priority boarding which included both handicap and VIP guests. All the guests, not jus the VIP guests packed all of the lines, and people were even pushing me to get on the boat. I left and told them that I can not get in line and I was told that cannot control what their guests do!!! Get ready to be RUN OVER by wild Europeans on the Fantasia. Do not purchase their excursions. They say that people speak English but in reality, the accents are so thick that you will no understand them anyways. Deborah in Rome spoke very poor English and during the whole tour in Rome the microphones did not work at all. We could never hear her. We took 3 excursions- Rome, Pisa, and Monaco. In all 3, you have very limited time to actually STOP and enjoy a site, or take a picture, or enter a small shoppe. They are so concerned with you being back by 3pm, even if the boat doesnt leave until 5:30pm!!! Its better to take a taxi or do a local tour. MSC excursions are not worth it. Also, only ONE local destination offered free shuttle buses into the city center, I think it was La Spezia, but should be all cities. With dinning, they are far too strict. You have to be seated by 7pm and if you are not you can loose your place in dinning and have to eat at the buffet. The buffet is NOT wheelchair friendly. I was only using a wheelchair temporarily, not permanently, but still, no staff offered to help me. The cruise itself is not very wheelchair friendly, which made me feel very bad for people who are actually permanently disabled. For example, there is no wheelchair only elevators. There were actually not enough elevators. There are also no automatic doors throughout the entire ship so you have to rely on other people to help you through the doors. Also, the counters in the dinning room are far too high for anyone in a wheelchair to take a plate, see the food, and serve themselves. My husband had to help me every day, because the staff never assisted. Once, a kind waitor assisted me when he saw me limping with coffee. Definitely the worst part of our trip and what ruined our whole trip was when our cabin was flooded with water when a pipe burst at 2am. I woke up to water in our room in the middle of the night and had a panic attack. They later told us that we were LUCKY they had an extra room available for us to sleep in that night. They even wanted us to go back to the soiled room the next day. Our items were soiled with dirty pipe water and many of our items were not cleaned for when we were scheduled to disembark 2 days later. They refused to return our money for the price of our cabin for those 2 nights and refused to provide any compensation for our shoes or even let me fill our a complaint form. We have been trying to contact customer service for the pipe even specifcially but no one has returned our contacts. All in all, this cruise line is NOT wheelchair friendly, has no automatic doors or dinning assitance, and did not own up to their responsiblity for our cabin and items. Read Less

I only chose this cruise ship because of the booking agent. This was truly a disappointing and bad experience from day one. The crew was very rude and unprofessional and the food was horrible. The same food for seven days; french fries, hotdogs and hamburgers. You have to be kidding me! For all the money my family spent on prepping and creating our Reunion with you guys, it was a waste of money, time and effort. While docking in the Bahamas, for whatever reason, the ship decided to flood in the elevators and hallway on floors 5, 6 and 7. This caused our last day to be a total disaster. what little activities set for that day was canceled. We spent about a half hour attempting to get food after boarding the ship from our excursion. We had family member who were diabetics, asthmatics and other health issues. It was blatantly obvious, crew members were catering to the Europeans and not to Americans. While at the formal captain's dinner, the head waiter failed to acknowledge my table. It was like I was in the center of a triangle. The three tables around me were greeted and welcomed, but, my table tended to appear invisible. No one cared enough to address our concerns. The head waiter acknowledge all guess and tables arounds us as I witnessed them sliding money in his hand. I was appalled and felt disrespected with all that was going on around us. I guess, if the price was right, you were able to get anything you wanted and if it wasn't you were totally ignored... Read Less

I had read the previous bad reviews before we left and was hoping that they were wrong but unfortunatley they were all correct. We had previously sailed with Celebrity and MSC is like compariing Butlins with The Ritz with Celebrity being the Ritz.. The main problem with MSC is it is not a cruise, It was a ferry picking up different people at each port who apparently get a cheap deal for a few days. When the new passengers embark you then had to endear the safety drill in about 6 languages every time. 3 nights in a row does wear a bit thin. We also had an issue with the security on the ship. We had noticed that when you return onboard the security guards checking the bags being scanned are not actually looking at the screens and just letting the bags through. This happened on quite a few occassion and when we complained to the reception desk we were just told that they were understaffed and that there were only 20 reception staff for over 4000 passengers. The overall impression you get from the ship is that the whole staff are unhappy. Not once did the Captain come on the tanoy to do any annoucements and the only time we saw him was on the gala night if you wanted your picture taken with him, The ship itself seems very dated and tired and in need of a update. The cabin itself was ok but the shower curtain in the bathroom seemed very old fashioned. The food was ok but very small portions in the restuarant. The meat seemed very tough and low quality. The whole ship did not feel very clean and especially the general toilets and buffett restaurant could do with a good clean. The entertainment was also very poor. We were on the ship for 14 days and one show was on 3 times during that time. There only seemed to be 7 shows all of which were low quality and they need to spend some money on the backdrops. The only backdrops they had were some stairs. We had made a formal compaint on board and asked to speak to the customer service manager but were told we could not speak to him, The excrursions were not too bad but we had booked a cataraman trip but the boat was not a cataraman, when we questioned this at the excursion desk we were told tha the manager was not there at the time and they would get in touch with us, which they did not. Overall this was a very disappointing cruise and we would definatley not go with MSC again. Read Less

We choose this ship as it had a great itinary, however due to the hurricane they had to change it. ( not the ships fault) Having been on approx 30 cruises, covering a wide range of cruise ships both large and small I have to say this is the worst ship I have been on and certainly wouldn’t go on an MSC cruise again. Embarkation was poor, you were left to do everything on your own eg register your cards etc, this is the first time on a ship that we have had to do this and it felt very inpersonal. As soon as we got to our cabin it was time to attend the lifeboat duty, this was poor and unorganised. We then hadn’t the time to go to the dining room so we had to eat in the buffet, I’m not a huge fan of buffets but this was awful, the area was large and most of it was well presented, however the food was poor quality and only just warm. The Cabin was a nice size but I was quite surprised to see that the balcony rail was sticky and full of fingerprints and also splashes of paint. The shower we had to tie with a piece of string to stop it spinning around and when you looked really closley it was a bit rough and grubby around the edges. The dining room in the evening was quite nice and the food again was well presented, however the food was poor! Service was slow and at times I didn’t really want to go down to eat. I was quite annoyed and upset that I had to witness waiters coming round with laminated A4 sheets pushing steak and lobster which was to be added to your account should you wish to order.NEVER have I witnessed anything so humiliating on a cruise ship! The breakfast dining room was scruffy, when guests had finished their breakfast the crumbs were just swept from the table with their hands onto the floor. Again the food was poor and the orange juice was more like squash, if you wanted a good fresh orange you had to pay for it. We came back actually lighter than when we went. We met a few lovely staff who went out of their way, but on the whole they were miserable and could be quite rude. The cruise was more like a glorified holiday camp and I would suggest anyone looking for a cruise not to use this company. Also any first time cruisers on this ship, please don’t be put off, this is not cruising! Read Less

The ship is gorgeous but it's a shame the customer service is nothing like it. Shocking.. From the moment we arrived with no information, rude staff and having to queue to find out basic information that we should have been provided with like our room number, how to get the key, map of the ship, how things work. They also failed to honor our table request and dietary requirement and as such my partner never ate for 24hours until they sorted it the next day. They couldn't even arrange for us to visit another restaurant that had gluten free options. Left us to the buffet which was not gluten free and no good for soneone with coeliac disease. We requested this when we booked. The reception staff were not helpful and very defensive and claimed we never booked it. The buffet was just terrible which I tried once and never returned. The main restaurant was okay once we sorted the gluten free saga out. The locations are falsely advertised (4hours from Florence) don't advertise this as Florence... We never went to Florence!!! Wasn't sitting on a coach for 9hrs to spend 1hr there. The ship was very busy and nothing like Cunard. It was full of loud ignorant people and that included the staff. We paid extra for the spa to escape the very busy smokey pool area but they even messed this up and put it down to staff training. Not acceptable. I complained about several things and it took 6 months and 10 letters to eventually get a refund for the errors that they accepted occurred. They tried giving is vouchers, but why would I want to return to one of their ships if they are the same. Please please do not fall for this as we were sold by the magnificent pictures.. The ship is spectacular but they just have it being operated and manged all wrong. You are a number and they do not care. Don't even get me started on the disembarkation procedure.. Wow and the nightmare getting to Cannes via the small boats 3 hours after our allocated time slot. I could go on but I won't. Try a Cunard ship as you will see how cruises should be operated. Glad this wasn't our first cruise as it would have put me off forever. Thankfully I realise its equivalent to booking a rubbish hotel and a Ryanair flight. PS the cabin was lovely and the service there was fantastic... Thought I'd end on a positive. Read Less

We booked this cruise over a year ago because of the attractive price but what was a bargain turned out to be the cruise from hell. It all started from the embarkation process on arrival at Bridgetown after a long flight from London and having to collect our cases And lug them to a van for delivery to the ship then the awful wait queueing up for outdated buses to take us to the ship was a farce as their was no facility to store hand luggage everything had to be placed on our knee the customer service rep was not sympathetic to this and herded us on like cattle we then left for a 40 minute run to Bridgetown not so we were held up at the jetty in a convoy as only 1 coach could go on the jetty at a time time from landing at 2.45 pm till eventually getting on the ship at 5.45pm was poor we then left the ship was itself was clean as was the cabin however the ship moved around a lot for such a large ship I would question if the full use of the stabilisers were being used as with some cruise companies they are not as it is a cost or fuel saving exercise, I was not impressed with the food It was very repetitive okay if you liked turkey or pork and didn’t cater for the British palette, entertainment what can I say we were not able to see anything in the theatre as with the food it was always in French or Italian, the Manhattan Bar which we liked was the same show every evening and got pretty repetitive we didn’t sit in any of the other lounges as nothing was sung in English the British were not catered for at all and when we spoke to other British passengers they felt the same. Each island the ship visited ther was a disembarkation and a embarkation of passengers from those islands who seemed to be on cheap deals to fill the ship and when this happened we had to listen to the emergency drill through the tannoy system each day also the crew had to go through their own drills these occasions this meant that we were on an oversized ferry rather than a cruise ship most of the British people we spoke with felt the same and had never experienced this on any other cruises they had been on also at each Island the departure was quite early which seemed to be the ship was in a rush to get the people on and off had we known in advance all this information we would never ever booked this cruise and after 1 week all we wanted to do was get back home for our part this was a wast of money and we will never use MSC again if we had never been on an other cruise company we would be put off cruising altogether. We believe we should have been forewarned of all these points before committing to a booking Read Less

The food is terrible. Little choice and cheap quality ingredients used and cooked badly - often overcooked. Food left over is rehashed into different dishes next day, for example leftover roast beef becomes sliced beef in gravy next day. I noticed food and drink is rationed in a subtle way for example in the breakfast cereals there are (cheap quality) corn flakes, rice crispies etc and muesli and when (little bowl) of muesli runs out during service it is not replenished forcing remaining diners to have corn flakes or rice crispies. Same with drinks first glass decent measure, second smaller. Ship claims to run out of certain wines, then has them again next day. Some things like bananas are only offered once a week. Meal in Tex Mex awful, ordered sirloin steak on second day of cruise - told they were sold out! Had fillet steak - terrible unseasoned overcooked and served with iceberg lettuce Not Tex Mex! Meal in etoile, where Yacht Club members dine (70 eur) also bad, 3 tiny pieces of meat. More like a ferry than a cruise with the ship picking up and dropping passengers and ports and safety drill in Seven languages interrupting evenings social life take ages. Shop and reception staff are rude and unhelpful. A million miles away from any other cruise experience we’ve had on P&O, Cunard and Celebrity. MSC have started sailing from Southampton and I suggest any UK person to avoid and not be taken in by advertising hype. This cruise line has a lot to learn. Read Less

MSC Fantasia currently has an itinerary visiting smaller and less visited West Indian islands such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Kitts and St Vincent. For British guests there are fortnightly cruises starting and ending in Bridgetown, Barbados. French speaking guests from Europe or the local islands and other European guests mainly undertake weekly cruises starting and ending in Guadeloupe or Martinique. These 2 islands are visited twice each during a fortnightly cruise from Barbados so you can expect 4 disrupted evenings while obtrusive safety drills take place (service in every bar can be suspended) as well as having your own first evening disrupted (my drill took place when I should have been dining). Food is very poor and often tasteless and restaurant service, with a few notable exceptions, is appalling. I gave up and joined many other guests who abandoned the evening meal served in the restaurant, which is normally a cruise highlight, for the buffet offering on the 14th deck. The ship is very badly designed with kitchens between restaurants at the back of the boat and those further forward. You can not walk through the boat at 5th or 6th deck level to reach your restaurant at the rear. Although there are 4 sets of elevators one set serves the atrium area with entertainment, guest relations, excursion desk, etc. as well as embarkation and disembarkation. This set of 4 elevators is hopelessly overloaded. Elevators frequently go past floors for no apparent reason. As a result guests often press up and down buttons just to get an elevator. This results in needless journeys, overcrowding and elevators stopping at floors unnecessarily. I walked up 6 decks with hand luggage on arrival because the situation was so hopeless and it was noticeable how many others gave up on elevators throughout the cruise. The entertainment show on board in the main theatre (and menu) repeats on a weekly cycle so anyone taking a 2 week cruise has seen each show by the end of the first week. There is a classical show in the theatre between the 2 performances of the main show and the pretence is that this offers a new alternative for the 2nd week. The main shows fit with dinner sittings. The classical show does not. The theatre shows are poor. There is no band. With the exception of vocals everything is done to backing tracks. Better dancing can be seen on Strictly Come Dancing. People vote with their feet and the theatre is sparsely attended. There are a number of bars with entertainment, often a singer accompanying themselves on a keyboard or with accompaniment by one musician. Backing tracks are again in evidence. Where does karaoke end and proper musicianship begin? The singers are the same every night and the songs sung often the same as well! The Sports Bar is hopeless. You basically get what is on Eurosport. There were no English football matches and no effort was made for Superbowl. The only advantage of watching in the bar was (a) drinks and (b) a sensibly sized screen. The toilet in my cabin overflowed on 3 separate occasions, once in the middle of the night and took far too long to 'repair'. On the last gala night of the cruise I had to remain in my daytime clothes as showering was not practical. This was my first cruise on MSC. It will be my last. It is by far the worst cruise I have ever been on. There will doubtless be other reviews in a similar vein. Read Less

DO NOT BOOK A CRUISE WITH MSC Our experience with MSC on a Caribbean cruise in Jan 2018 was the worst experience we have ever had. Most of the 14 days was spent having to complain. Not a holiday.Just full of stress. We have enjoyed cruises with most of the other major companies, so have plenty of experience to do this comparison Listed below are the reasons why: It is an Italian company and they do not really cater for the English The staff are not very friendly and can be very rude to you at times You cannot reserve your flight seats together prior to departure There is no guarantee you will be seated together on the flight Beware of being upgraded as it is not always a better cabin The cabin steward: • is not very welcoming or respectful • never remembers your name • no frills like animals made from towels or chocolates on the bed at night The drinks package included is very basic, with only one type of draught lager and local spirits. They try to get you to spend more upgrading to the branded drinks No captain announcements throughout the cruise Only one leaving party from 7 days when leaving port Entertainment • Main theatre shows can be repeated after 7 days. • Very poor entertainment. We had a woman singing Queens songs! • No pub quizzes • Bingo very expensive and in many languages • Opera if you like it Restaurants: • When asked for milk in coffee, he poured in drinking choc • When asked for milk in tea, he poured coffee into it • Not much English choice • Food is not always hot, but luke warm • Only wine and water served at your table Drinks service • There can be a number of ports where passengers embark and disembark. This means there will be a muster drill that night where all the bars are closed for 45 mins, so no drinks available • The bar staff do not like serving you directly and tell you to see the waitress • The waitress takes your order, which can take up to 30 mins to be delivered • Only certain drinks available at certain bars. You have to search as they will not get it for you. One night we had to go searching to get Sprite! • On deck the waitress service is only available in certain areas. They never walk around the ship to get your order. Pool • You are only allowed one pool towel a day. You have to go to reception to beg for a replacement Sanitation • When entering the restaurant, only on occasions do you see a crew member offering you sanitation for your hands • Sometimes the dispensers are empty Excursions • We were sent out in the pouring rain and got soaked. No refund given Complaints • They seem to feel by giving a free limited food voucher, all will be forgiven • If you complain to MSC directly, they will give you all sorts of excuses. Just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and our faith in cruising has been fully restored MSC NEVER AGAIN!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was originally a no nights at sea cruise, but because of the hurricanes in itinery changed that was ok but when we boarded the ship in Barbados we knew we had made a big mistake, even though the ship was nice the staff were rude and unhelpful the food was extremely bad in both the buffet and main restaurant I can eat anything but I struggled to find even there coffee palatable let alone what they were serving, the service was also dire and we were kept waiting for drinks and on occasions we were completely ignored plus there was some sort of virus that affected someone in our circle plus other passengers and we had to get medicines from Guadalupe which helped but even after being back 6 weeks she is still receiving medical treatment and the cruises ended as a back to back cruise which was rubbish some of the islands we visited were dreadful and on one island we docked in the worst slum area I'd ever seen in my life and I've seen a few on my travels MSC should be thoroughly ashamed of the treatment of all its British passengers on the worst cruise in history Read Less

If you want to go away and lose weight then this is the cruise for you. The food is literally no better than 1 star. Staff service is ok but ignore the staff to customer ratio half of them obviously missed the ship, takes ages to get served, a lot quicker getting yourself. We've both had upset stomachs . Ok the cabin not bad, ship tidy, what they don't tell you in the luxury cruise brochure is they let 3rd class citizens on at various ports for a stay at next to nothing to make up the numbers. When you work hard all year and book a luxury cruise one expects to eat well, get top service and relax with like minded people. That not going to happen with this cruise liner company. The worst part is constantly being sniped at with hidden charges, maybe we should have read the small print but when you pay for all inclusive including food and drinks package one doesn't expect to pay for bottled water, orange juice and the like. They also force a daily service charge per person on you. VERY VERY dissapointed. 1 star rating I'm afraid. Read Less

The worst food ever offered on any Holliday we have been on, very slow service more often forgotten. Staff to client ratio not as advertised. They use every oportunity to throw hidden charges at you. 3.95 plus service charge for water in the room somehow not included in the drinks package! Even orange juice is chargeable on an all inclusive? Watch out for the hidden service charges. Prepare to spend more time on coaches than the actual excursion activities. The actual ship is magnifice but so poorly managed it beggars belief. Comparasons between advertised and reality are miles apart. Everbody, and I mean everybody I spoke to would Never use MSC again. Constantly finding ways to rip you off. When your on board they adopt a like it or lump it attitude. If you go on a cruise with MSC don't expect all inclusive to mean all inclusive. Forget the entertainment, there isn't any, forget the excursions, only there to rip you off not to make you happy. I can't find anything possitive to say about the food or restaurant service, very little choice. No English channels on tv other than 2 repetitive news channels. Charge for films. No tea/ coffee faascilites allowed in the room. What they don't tell you is that they allow local people on at the returning ports at rediculously discounted prices which inevitably means you share an advertised 5 star cruise with ignorant, rude and obnoctious 2 star clients and these account for probably half of the passengers. In summary a beautiful ship, good clean rooms, but this company seems a lot more interested in your money than your satisfaction. Read Less

The cruise was an RACQ promo, the ports were fine and most of the stall helpfull, Boarding the high pressure selling package began- water , coffee, wine, meal upgrades. This was a combined cruise - 28 days, but dishing up the same menu and show(which , was not high class, only lasted about an hour) every week -NOT GOOD. (my wife is gluten free, but getting chicken every meal gets boreing)The little things where missing- a drink when waiting for tenders(another company had them), crew knowing where towels are, announce when you can retrive passports, and what deck to leave ship.Dinning with same couple(we got on well) for the whole cruise.Mixups with bookings for excursions, desimbarking, connecting transfers.Selling old movies for $7, Sometimes you like a quite space, this was hard to find, Catching a lift, you give up and walk most tmes. MSC is good at moveing containers, BUT has a lot to learn about moveing people.... Read Less

I made this cruise with MSC and never had such a bad experience. I reported my complaints at MSC and the even refused a compensation!!!!!! The transfer was a mess, the embarkation was very bad. I booked an Aurea Suite(!) no window to open nor a balcony. I asked for a swap but was told off by the receptionist. In the bars (from an Italian ship) there was no Martini available nor Aperol. Sometimes there was no Prosecco at stock. The restaurant was understaffed, waiter did not have enough time to take the order, tablecloth was dirty, glasses unpolished. The food was bad, the meat was not tender we were not able to consume the rack of lamb, the duck breast or the veal. It could not be chewed! The touring office told me off while taking my ticket, I did not know about the voucher that I was obliged to take the English coach. Very unkind staff....... Eating from the buffet was the alternative but there was no variation, each day the same and sometimes there was no food at all at the opening hours. The entertaiment was very poor, at all pool activities always the same tape with music. There were 8 entertainers for 20 participators. The rest from the guests was complaining because it was to loud. MSC did not understand my complaint but: never again!!!! Read Less

First dinner night was stunned to find that you had to pay for water and tea or coffee. It is impossible to get a place around the pools. People were getting up at 04:30 to put their stuff on chairs. Continuous selling on board of drink packages etc. Unable to cancel an excursion without going to ships doctor (we were told that it would cost 70 to 80 Euros) this when we were not feeling well. tour costs 110 Euros for both of us thus we would have to spend 150 Euros to recoup 110 Euros. Dining was about a 3 out of 10. with 2 meals totally unedible. 4300 passengers just not confortable, The dining at the buffet on the 14 floor was always a pushy disaster. Saw an Italian man finger every piece of bread in the row when there were tongs for picking bread up with right there. We were absolutely stunned by how pushy some of the Europeans were (Italian mainly but others too). WILL WE EVER TAKE AN MSC CRUISE AGAIN -NO-NO-NO- P.S. They now have a ship with 5700 passengers. This was our first cruise with MSC after 6 with Thomson’s. We cruised from Abu Dhabi on the 19/03/2017 for 7 nights. On arrival at ship we were informed that itinerary had been changed. We had a Balcony cabin and up-graded to a Premium drinks package. The ship was full with the majority of the clients not English. Notes are as follows: - 1 - Embarkation = OK. Arrived at Ship at 08:30 and got into cabin at 12:30. 2 - Cabin = OK. On first getting cabin it was adequate and clean. There was an adjoining door to next doors cabin Steward attended every day but carpet was never vacuumed for full week. We did have two occasions where drinking glasses (not ours) appeared in our bathroom and balcony door left open. 3 - Day at sea = Like a zoo. Too many people and too few sunbeds led to physical confrontation that we saw on two occasions. Trying to get served at a bar or obtain a waiter was impossible. Best service we got was when it rained and there was only a few sitting at the outside bar. 4 - Restaurant = Very poor. On late sitting. Only got offered water on first night. Never managed more than two drinks. No topping up of glasses. Took 2 hours from start to finish. Got a bread bun on 3 of the 7 nights. Food when arrived was adequate at best. 5 - Excursion desk = Very poor. Tried to get a bus transfer ticket at Bahrain. Queued for over half an hour before giving up, as hundreds of people (No exaggeration) in queue. 6 - Panoramic Doha - What a waste of 5 hours of our lives. Guide was very poor with no explanation of where we went. Dumped off the coach at three separate occasions and spent over half the time sitting in traffic jams. l has loads of other examples including not getting to sir bani yas island due to adverse weather leading to another zoo-like day at sea, and poor all round service but the main two issues we had were: - 1 - Amount of money went missing from inside safe. Dirhams and Pounds totalling around £290 were discovered to be missing from safe. We reported this confidentiality to reception which resulted in a security guard checking our room to see if we or someone had hidden the money. Eventually after prompting the reception staff on numerous occasions all we got out of them was it has never happened before and that we must have been mistaken on how much we put into the safe. I can assure anyone reading this review that we are careful and honest people and can 100% say that the money was taken from the safe. Please see comments on cabin on door left open etc. 2 - At around 23:00 on the last night there was an announcement that the Ship would not be sailing from Dubai for Abu Dhabi meaning that passengers disembarking would have to travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by coach which resulted in having to get off ship earlier than originally required. When we left the Ship, we were put us on a coach that we thought was taking us to Abu Dhabi. No, it took us to the next cruise terminal where we got off. There were no MSC reps there and no-one could speak English. Eventually after around 30 mins and a lot of irate passengers a rickety old bus arrived and took us on a 2-hour drive to Abu Dhabi airport where we were dropped off at the wrong terminal - A total shambles. We are taking forward our complaints with MSC but not expecting much response. It is such a shame as the facilities were superb but let down by customer service from 95% of staff. Give me the Thomson Sprit any time. Read Less

Cruised onboard fantasia departing from Abu Dhabi on the 19/03/2017 My honest advise would be don't go it really is as bad as all the other reviews. We decided to try MSC as we liked the itinerary and the price was very competitive compared to the other cruise lines. We have been on many other cruises with RC and Celebrity and can honestly say your better off to pay more !! The food is really awful particularly in the formal restaurant, the staff are miserable and rude, the organisation is unbelievable. The weather was particularly bad when we were there and there were changes to the itinerary which meant we were at sea on days we were meant to be on excursions it was chaotic. Whilst in Dubai it was very heavy rain so we thought we would use the indoor pool however it was closed for refurbishment and the smell of the wet paint was everywhere, there were no theatre productions on either for the last 2 days which left very little to do. I would have thought they would have gone out of there way to provide some sort of entertainment as the weather was so bad but they seem to be more bothered about getting the ship ready for the next cruise rather than keeping those onboard happy. On the last night it was announced that the ship would not be sailing to Abu Dhabi and we were to be transferred by bus to the airport. After standing in a queue at guest relations for nearly 2 hours we were told to be in the theatre for 4am, we set the alarm and when it went off my husband went to get a coffee, outside the cabin door was a letter to say we needed to be in the theatre for 3.30am which left us just enough time to get off the ship and catch the bus. So even though we stood for 2 hours at guest relations we were still given the wrong information which could have resulted in us missing the coach. This really sums up the chaotic organisation I dread to think what it would be like if there was an emergency!!! So in summary please don't waste your money it was a nightmare. Read Less

The answer to the heading is a big FAT NO! Not even for free. It's not the ship that has the faults even though it does need an overhaul, quite dated and looking old. It's the staff and the incredible bad food. The staff overall are dame right rude. If you ever go to reception and ask advise they are patronising and ignorant. I asked why the slide hadn't opened in the first to days? Answer.."what slide and what deck was it on? As soon as my husband approached the guy at reception changed his tune and was happy to tell my husband. We found the men on reception very impolite, abrupt, boorish and curt. The ship was badly organised by those in charge. When we entered our room on day 1 the bathroom bin hadn't been changed from the previous occupants and a cracked glass, which I did give to the cabin steward to change but never received a second one for the rest of our stay. Dirty marks all over door handles and walls, broken to that came on randomly and ripped bedding. The cabin steward cleaned the entire bathroom with Lime Scale Remover (which obviously contain bleach)This was made aware when I put my navy trousers at the side of the sink when having a shower. When I picked them up they had been bleached orange down the legs. When we phoned reception and asked the head housekeeper to come straight up he denied all knowledge and said that the cabin steward hadn't cleaned the room that day and it must have been something we'd used. After several conversations with different staff they denied using bleach anywhere on the ship. After having no feed back on the situation we went on a mission to find the product. They had removed it from most floors by the next day but we eventually found a bottle on a cart with other bottles of cleaning products with no labels on them....very dangerous. We grabbed the bottle and ran as the cabin steward ran after us down the corridor, quite a funny scene, really! Reception again to very quote in quote shocked staff. They knew exactly what they use. They came clean...excuse the pun and admitted "yes" they do use bleach after literally calling us liars. Fuming. Anyway the food. Same food for breakfast and lunch everyday. Evening meals boring and very small. I have NEVER been on a cruise and said "I'm hungry" no I am not a greedy person who goes on cruises just to eat all day and be a pig. I am a normal size lady who likes a nice meal. The food was the worst I've ever experienced on a cruise. We have sailed many different cruise lines for the experience but never ever would I cruise with the company again. Originally we was going to book while onboard their new ship Seaside...thank god we didn't book before we'd experience this deplorable, woeful company. This company needs a rethink and heads need to role for the organisation. Many more can be said but haven't got enough time. Oh if you just love queue jumpers you'll definitely love this ship. Thank god off ship we had a lovely time... Met some lovely people who made our evening meals enjoyable, even though the food wasn't....SHOUT OUT to the Scottish...you know who you are! Haha Reading some of the reviews for the MSC FANTASTICA I really do think they're added by their own marketing team. Last thing...the staff love the hard sell and constantly bombarded us with trying to sell the drinks package or to upgrade it. Even at the end of the cruise they would approach you while eating knowing you was leaving soon. Roll on our next cruise...thank god this hasn't put us off. Read Less

Well, I’ve just come back from a MSC Cruise, to say I was disappointed would be very polite, we sailed from Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas Island, Qatar, Bahrain and finishing in Dubai on the MSC Fantasia, firstly the locations visited was great Qatar and Bahrain are a must, secondly the ship, the staff at the bars and restaurants are very pleasant, however the staff on the reception and the shops was terrible, we ask the reception if we can get an Wifi package, she said it that fast I asked her to repeat it, we she snapped my head off with an angry torrent of abuse, there shop staff was worse, they just worked off when asked a question and one day waiting be served on guy was on the phone “F-ing and blinding at someone, the food was very, very average, one night in the restaurant I asked for Chicken, well when I say chicken, there was a piece of chicken and a few chips, is this what they call an evening meal, I don’t think so, the ship was that full you couldn’t move with ignorant people pushing and shoving, I can honestly say it was the worst cruise I’ve ever been on and couldn’t wait to get off, having said that there was a lot of people saying that, it was like Butlin’s at sea, no offence to Butlin’s, please, please don’t waste your money, just go with a better cruise company.
