Cruise was horrible bad service. Vacation was wasted always waiting in a line for everything. Pool drained and closed 2nd & 3rd days. Also all hot tubs shut down. Shows cancelled after waiting for the show to start. Over 2 hrs to get off ship. Activities not available that were listed. Reservations at Cagneys steak house we were 10 minutes late and refused to serve us. Elevators were so slow could not get on an elevator most of the time. Saw elderly having to use the stairs when they shouldn’t have been due to health. The cabin was very nice but any service for it was slow and unfriendly. Overall seemed understaffed. Things were dirty and not cleaned for the next day around the decks. Everyone was so unfriendly and gave no service it was truly a self serve cruise not what we paid for. Never got any service even in the casino would have to go to the bar for a drink and wait in line for sometimes 30 minutes. Many guest made their complaints on the ship but it made no difference. I was told by a crew member that’s what you get on a 3 day cruise this is unacceptable! Read Less

I have been on many cruises but this was my first NCL, selected strictly for its availability date/time, and place. Our stateroom was adequate with more than expected storage for all of our belongings. Plenty of hangers, but they “clanked” constantly while sleeping so I had to put a towel on the unused ones to prevent this clatter. The bed was large and comfortable. Electric outlets and USB ports were well placed. The bathroom was adequate except for legroom in the W/C-toilet. I am only 5’5 and the legroom was terrible…ouch. Good storage for all toiletries though. Also, nice hand soap, body wash, and shampoo. Our cabin attendant was very courteous and attentive to all needs. The staff on NCL Pearl is the WORST I have encountered for friendliness and courtesy, except for those providing hand washing “washie-washie” services, and our server Rowena at the Summer Palace. Summer Palace has EXACTLY the same menu as Indigo but servers at Indigo were zombies with no greeting or courtesy. Food was plentiful, when it was available at Garden Buffet. All the food choices are lacking in flavor/seasoning, though many had rich sauces and plenty of cheese, if that’s your thing. Otherwise, salad and fruit are plentiful. O’Sheehan’s is good for burgers ONLY and offered curt service with NO courtesy. Nachos there are laughable – NOT-chos. Avoid the Lotus Garden as the server’s costumes are more appealing than the fare. We also missed main dining room traditions of server crew celebration on the last night. “Freestyle” is a misnomer on this ship as there were times when there was only one choice of limited food – Great Outdoors Café and O’Sheehan’s. If “Freestyle” means you can eat at any time in the main dining rooms, that’s available on most ships on large lines now. The shows were not exceptional but “Legends” was quite entertaining and the comedian was fine. Several of the afternoon participatory entertainments in the Spinnaker Lounge seemed like “throw-away” events, and the staff who hosted them seemed less than enthusiastic to participate. Again, crew needs to be very much more inviting. The Cruise Director was one of the few who was always upbeat and courtesous. The fitness center could use some upgrading. One of two bikes were out of service and several machines were missing signs describing their usage. Funny smell there too – the first I’ve encountered in a cruise ship gym. Staff was pleasant at the fitness center and towels and cold face cloths were well available. As for drinks, this is hands down the worst place I’ve ever been to get a drink. Waiters were almost non-existent and when we saw a rare yellow shirted attendant on deck they were far away and never wandered outside of their small area. I was astounded that people waited in a long line for drinks at the Sky High Bar and Topsiders. I waited once for 20 minutes to get a drink at Sky High…ONCE. And then NCL has the nerve to add an automatic gratuity! I said NCL stands for Never-ending Customer Lines. The entertainment lounges were no better, with noticeably lacking wait staff who were completely unfriendly with no greetings or courtesy. The centrally located Atrium bar service was equally uninviting with unsmiling bartenders quick to dismiss. I am lucky to have passed on the drink package, which I usually get, as NCL deems it necessary for all people in a cabin to have the same package – preposterous. Can you say “upsell ripoff!” I’d have been furious with a drink package when it was SO hard to get a drink. Hats off to the navigation crew for diverting from the NCL private island due to high winds and rough seas. We were joined in the elevator on our last night by our gracious Italian Captain and told him we were grateful for the diversion, and he seemed pleased with the feedback and was quite gracious. Overall, this ship has too many passengers occupying too small a space with WAY too few service staff. What staff is there ought to be trained in courtesy and the art of a simple smile. I encountered several badged crew personnel in the long empty stateroom corridors who not only didn’t smile as we passed, but didn’t say hello, and didn’t reply after I said hello! I can’t speak for all NCL ships, but this is my feedback on NCL Pearl as of January, 2020. Hopefully NCL will address some simple courtesy and service availability concerns, sooner than later. Unlikely to be back to NCLsoon, until we get treated like a Celebrity or Royal. Read Less

Everything about this cruise line stinks! Customer service is not in their vocabulary. The staff was rude, condescending and acted like they were doing me a favor even acknowledging me as a customer. The port in Nassau (where we were diverted to due to bad weather) was disgusting and I felt unsafe. I chose to get excursion credits during booking but EVERY one of my excursions were canceled by Norwegian...but they didn't tell us that until AFTER we did the whole disembarking process. No offers to do anything else - simply, "You're out of luck". 4 night cruise and never got to set foot on a beach!! The spa...don't even get me started! They did not honor their daily special and WAY overcharged me. Then to top it off, they also charged me 25% gratuity that I did not agree to. $267 for a massage - you've GOT to be kidding me! I spoke with 3 different employees about the situation and each one gave me the "it's not my problem" excuse. I had to stop payment at my bank - that's how bad it was! The final straw that broke this camel's back was the communication afterwards. I submitted my complaints to Norwegian and got the same crap customer service. Basically telling me that they cannot and will not help me and that I am just out all of this money. I will NEVER, EVER cruise with Norwegian again. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy! My boyfriend and I were looking for a cruise last summer. We compared several and used his previous experiences with cruise lines and chose Norwegian, even though it was more expensive. I felt a little put off prior to even sailing by the whole bidding on a Haven room. I thought that was a little shady. Cruise line staff at the airport was rude and the staff on board ship was overworked and not enough. Several of the crew members told us they were short staffed. The food was cold and two restaurants had the same menu, limiting variety. The entertainment was mediocre at best. The aerial team was great on the ropes, but the interpretive dance was poor. The crew variety show was like attending a high school production. Not to say they weren't good, but I was expecting actual shows. The night clubs also offered the same music in the two dance areas and some of the bands that played were fair. They constantly were pushing for more money whether that be to entertain you on the current cruise or to keep pestering you to sign up for the next one. Guest services couldn't resolve an issue or get in touch with you. It was so over crowded, you couldn't get near the pools or sundecks. The brochures didn't seem like it was the same ship. I will say, we did enjoy the ports of Belize and Costa Maya, Mexico. They were beautiful. We had a balcony room and it was very clean and updated. We will cruise again, but NEVER with Norwegian. I hope this helps you when making your vacation choices. Read Less

1. Terrible food. 2. No vegetarian choices. 3. Limited food choices 4. Poor service. (Except for cabin steward ). 5. Didn’t show college football championship games - all 30 TV’s were tuned to a Single meaningless European soccer game. !!! Other cruises, by comparison, broadcast these games in their theatres , with hundreds in attendance. These idiots didn’t even realize what they’d done. 6. Horrible and poorly planned excursions. Worst ever. Getting off the vessel every day took an hour and we felt like cattle. We took a 6 hour trip - over lunch - and all we got was a single bottle of water and a piece of bread. Prisoners get better treatment. 7. Worst cruise director I’ve ever seen. 8. They Nickel and dime you for everything. 9. Gratuities over $50 per day - were basically paying for staff - over above our $10K cost Avoid this cruise at all costs. There are So many other better options out there Never using Norwegian again. My girlfriend and I booked the cruise because we were interested in trying NCL after sailing with RCI twice and because it seemed like a decent deal. Very disappointing experience, they were performed well below RCI. The food was a huge let down, the one asian dining spot Lotus Garden had some of the worst asian food I've ever tried. The buffet did not have as many options as the RCI cruise ships and the dining room food was down right bad at times. Many of the entrees were not cooked well and I was particularly disappointed at the fried chicken entree that I ordered. It sounded like a safe choice and yet it seemed like it neither the chicken or the batter they used had any seasoning whatsoever. I did not try any of their paid dining areas. The service was not up to par either in the dining areas. We were not given explanations of what many dishes were, it seemed as though we were a nuisance when asking about what certain dishes were, asking for recommendations and asking to add on to our order. Many of the waiting staff did not seem interested in serving and providing good service. The one redeeming aspect of this ship is the cheap drink package. Cocktails were good, bartenders were good. Beware that bottled water for a non upgraded drink package is 4 to 5 dollars and on their private island your drink package is invalid... seems like they're penny pinching. The entertainment on board was quite mediocore overall. The musical and dance performances we attended were below average, reading the bio of the performances they seem to hire new graduates in the arts and it is reflected in their performance. They had one person do stand up comedy which was great and the acrobatics performance we saw was not up to par with what RCI has to offer and in the middle of the performance cut to a projector screen for a maybe 480p video for 3 mins while the performers changed outfits.. completely ridiculous. Otherwise their lounge and fitness areas were average. We only did one shore excursion with NCL and that was for a ship to take us to the local area of Belieze for 25 bucks. They overbook the speed boat and it was a tight squeeze. It seemed quite unsafe to me and on top of that you only go for 3 hours and need to pay more if you would like to stay longer and take a later boat. Dissapointing on NCL side. Our room was not up to standard either. It was mostly clean when we came but the cupboards were sticky and seemed to have something spilled in it that just was not checked. Our housekeeper seemed nice, but did not seem to respect the do not disturb sign we had outside. He knocked on our door to give us the itinerary and when we told him to leave it outside he stood there. I don't know if he had heard us or not, but he shouldn't have knocked anyways. On the last day he also came into our room when we had the do not disturb sign on and I think it was to cover up for not checking the minibar prior to us, which he then billed to us after cleaning up our room when we had do not disturb up. We had a horrific time dealing with guest services trying to dispute the charges from the minibar. We had gone late in the evening close to 10 after realizing that he had put the receipt on our table and the gentleman from guest services assured us that the 30 dollar charge would be refunded. It was not, he clearly had made a mistake and we went back at 2 in the morning to be told the housekeeping department that was in charge of minibars was not open and we needed to come back at 7... on the morning of disembarkment. The morning of, the gentleman we spoke to called the housekeeping manager who eventually asked us to go up to the room to discuss with him because "the charge was a large amount". We refused and refunded our service charges because we were furious at this point. I would have just left this very lengthy and negative review for NCL, however they don't even have an area for me to leave them a review... clearly they don't care about what their customers think. We chose this cruise for the dates as a holiday cruise. The food on this cruise was absolutely the worst I’ve ever had on a cruise. Totally tasteless, bland, poor presentation, impossible to find some of the ingredients that are mentioned in the description. Example: strip steak with peppercorn sauce had absolutely no peppercorns or taste of them in the bland sauce that it sat on and served with shoestring French fries, extremely poor choice of side. Service in restaurants is extremely slow. With a premium beverage package we were not able to get bottled water at a bar without an up charge, absolutely absurd! We could get espresso or cappuccino in the restaurant without an up charge but not at the Java Cafe, this makes absolutely no sense! The buffet restaurant had few choices and also terrible food. The omelette stations in the morning had choices of ingredients that looked like they were cut up and left out for at least a day. Everything in the “specialty restaurants” used to be main dining room menu options on theme nights prior to the change to “free style” cruise and specialty restaurant options. As a Latitudes member I will never sail Norwegian again! The last cruise on Norwegian prior to this on the Sky had slightly better food but the food and service on Norwegian has definitely declined tremendously over the years. The entertainment was decent but nothing to get excited about, fairly typical of most cruise ship entertainment. We chose not to do any shore excursions in the only port, Costa Maya, and got The ship just to explore the port shopping and entertainment area. Many of the public rest rooms were dirty and The men's rooms often smelled of urine. Disembarkation in Miami was horrible! Totally unorganized and due to a fire alarm going off in the terminal was delayed to make the situation far worse than it already had been. Both of the queue lines had stretched all the way to the now and stern prior to the delay and it took far too long for them to make an announcement regarding the delay due to the alarm asking passengers to remain in lounges, etc. Total disorganization! Dirty smelly cabin and everywhere I sat the seats were dirty and very uncomfortable! Food was just ok never really hot. Bedspread was torn and had seen better days! Throw pillows in our cabin smelled and were stained as well as the throw they put at the bottom of the bed. I asked them to be removed and replaced... never replaced! Thank God I brought along Clorox wipes and room spray and had a balcony so I could air the place out!!! Many times no seating in buffet except way in the back and by the time you got a seat food was cold! Also crumbs on table and chairs!!! The staff didn’t really have time to clean up after ppl left due to the amount of ppl needing a seat! Read Less

I chose this cruise because it knocked out many places in a short amount of time. We had never been to europe and were eager to use the help of a cruise to get us to various places. However, the ship was small, overcrowded, and the guest services team was terrible. The food was decent, the pool was terrible, salt water and freezing, hot tubs were closed one of the days for unknown reasons. The casino was the saving grace. It was a long cruise, with a poor guest services staff. The excursions were also poorly planned. We would have been better off finding our own excursions. Poor communication from the excursions teams on how we would get to destination, should we pack snacks, what is the exact itinerary. Cabin was fine, we had a balcony, so did not feel stuffy. Not a good idea for a honeymoon. Most people were couples celebrating 50th birthdays. Read Less

This ship is a bit older but still nice. The food and service however are not the food is horrible and service not much better. Buffet was small food always cold and selection always the same hot dogs hamburgers baked beans curry dishes. Salad selection was so small. Had ribs one night awful. Went to restaurant three of the ten nights one night it was so bad I sent it back and went to our room hungry. Bacon at breakfast buffet was so hard it would break a tooth. Pastry was ok so stuck with that for breakfast how can you make a mess of that. We had only one meal in the pay extra dining room Monderno the Brazilian dining which was good to the tune of $200.00. Nice that the only food that was enjoyable I needed to pay extra for. Makes you think hmmm do they make the food so bad that you have to buy the food package. This cruise was nickel and dime all the way you pay for everything on this boat don’t forget your wallet that sea-pass is going to be expensive. Charge to bring your pre paid drink to you tip on that as well 15.00 per day per person in the cabin for tip for staff. Our room was four people $60.00 per day. If staff were good helpful or at least friendly maybe but what insensitive do you have to be nice and good at your job when you are adding the tip to the bill automatically. Tipping is up to me and for good service. It is a privilege not a right you earn tips don’t just bill me for them so you can charge it to my credit card that you have on file for any extras that are legitimate. I need to say that Vladimir our room Stewart was nice and worked hard we did leave him a tip and a bottle of wine and thanked him very much for everything. Entertainment was not great just ok. I would really say I would not choice Norwegian again I will go back to Royal Caribbean food was always good as was the service. I picked Norwegian Pearl for the ports thru reading reviews I was expecting food and service to be less than perfect but it was far worse than I expected. Read Less

You know how you really look forward to something, I mean, you get excited... You spend a bundle, prepare, hype it up... Well, don’t do that if you are taking a Norwegian Cruise. They don’t care about you, and if you have problems and try to contact them...they’ll ignore you. They’ve ignored me. They ruined the trip of a lifetime, and didn’t even care enough to answer my numerous contacts to guest relations. Sadly, the ship failed me. We missed 4 ports. The vacation was ok, until it wasn’t. It really should have been more than ok. Even before the electrical problems that stopped us in Barcelona, everything was just so-so. The room was mostly clean, the food was mostly good. The activities were nice, the bars (only had soda so cannot rate alcohol purchases) were good. Overall the ship was, like I said OK. For the money, I’d highly recommend finding something else. The food buffet was pretty good. The dining room like slightly upgraded cafeteria food. The staff members were pretty good. The entertainment staff were by far the most friendly. Activities were fun, so was Bingo. The excursions were below average, excursions taken on other cruise lines were way more comprehensive and interactive. In general, I’d recommend Carnival over Norwegian. I would never cruise Norwegian again, and sadly, my friends all agree as they’ve had their own bad experiences. Never, ever go with a company that won’t even follow up. Pure scam. Particularly since I’ve contacted guest relations twice, and have not heard a word. It shows me Norwegian cares absolutely nothing for their passengers. Do yourself a favor and avoid Norwegian like the plague. Read Less

First of all the staff on the ship was amazing. This review is solely to the Management of the Pearl. My wife and I planned for months for our honeymoon to Europe that was ruined by Norwegian. The ship set sail from Amsterdam and everything seemed great. We sailed for 8 days and stopped at 6 amazing ports. It was on the 9th day that the cruise went downhill very fast. An hour before arriving at Palma de Mallorco the captain came over the speaker and said there was engine problems and we would be going straight to Barcelona. This meant another day at sea that was not planned. We arrive in Barcelona at 10 pm and are allowed off the ship to "explore" even though the port is several miles from town. The next day we were told that instead of sailing at 5 pm we would be sailing at 8 pm to Monte Carlo. After 8 pm passed we were now told that the ship was would sailing to Livorno at 6 am the following day. After waking up that morning and still being at port we know something was very wrong. Meanwhile all over the internet there were articles about how the ship we were on had already canceled the next cruise. After waking up going to the front desk we were still told they were "ready to sail" and the ship was just waiting on clearance from the port. But, now we would be going straight to Rome. This means missing 4 ports. At this point I went on the internet and booked the first flight I could from Barcelona to Rome. We were finally given a letter later that morning saying the ship would not leave port and to find our own way back home. After being lied to for 4 days about every thing that was going on we were beyond ready to just get off the boat. We were also told that they would compensate our flights up to $300, what a JOKE! When i returned home and submitted the airline tickets an automated message said I would receive a response in 28 days. The way the management handled the situation was a joke. Instead of just telling the passengers the truth, they lied and lied to keep us on the ship. Us being on the ship meant more gambling, more drinking, more listening to the band play the same 5 songs over and over. It was just more money in their pockets and they didn't have to deal with over 2000 angry passengers. I will NEVER cruise with Norwegian again! Not because the ship broke down, because I understand that things do happen. Because, we were lied to for days and were basically told get off the ship and deal with it. The food on the ship was mediocre at best. The only thing was decent was the wings and nachos. The entertainment was rather boring. If you enjoy listening to the same 3 bands play the same 5 songs over and over than this is the perfect cruise for you. Everything on the ship cost extra! You would think paying this much for a cruise that some of the activities would be included but I was wrong. As for our balcony state room, it was very clean and modern. The bed was comfortable and our house keeper was very attentive. The shore excursions were organized but very expensive. We learned it was way cheaper to book the exact same excursion on our own that thru the ship. Also, some of the excursions didn't start till 2 after we were already docked at the port which meant 2 hours wasted. I would NOT recommend for anyone to sail with Norwegian! Read Less

As this time, probably the whole world knows about the disaster European trip provided by the Norwegian Pearl . However, I wanted to point that I consider that all the blame should be taken by the Norwegian Pearl management and/or corporate team for the way that they manage all the situation and information about the defective engine on board during this time. The did not share any information, and when they did it was inaccurate and no in timely manner. It was really hard for us as a client to make a decision since we really were getting the right information at the moment correct time. We have the impression that every piece of information was managed to avoid any confrontation with the already unhappy clients onboard. I worked at the hospitality business, I understand pretty well that at times you would need to deal with contingencies and technical issues, but the way that Customer Service team as well as the management team deal with these problems make the whole difference for the guests in house. I am very disappointment with the decision made at times for the management and how they deal with the information; then on top of that NCL corporate, decided to compensated the next cruise 100 % for their trip and the 100 % for the future cruise reservations. Meanwhile, our compensation was 50 % for the current trip and 50 % after the fact that we suffered all the inconveniences and having the bad service delivery by NCL during this trip. I would be more agree to a 50 % for the current trip and the 100 % for the future cruise as a token of their appreciation of all the troubles that we have to go thru during this experience. Please feel free to reach me out if you need more information. Today , I have trying to reach Guest Relations team from Norwegian and I have been on hold for more than an hour. I will try another day, but I have not seen any compensation so far for Norwegian Pearl bad experience. I hope that they doo Read Less

We chose this cruise for just one reason, the itinerary. The ship in general is very mediocre. The food in the main dining room, and buffet were on par with my company's cafeteria. The only difference was that this buffet had a few more choices. The hamburgers were precooked, tasteless and dry. You could get a better one at Burger King. On other ships we have cruised on we were tired of lobster by about the third day. We were on this ship for 11 days and could not buy a lobster in even the specialty restaurants. The cabin was nice, but we had to pay a substantial upgrade to get a room similar to what was standard on other ships we have sailed on. On a positive note the entertainment was good, and the entire staff was polite at all times. Under normal circumstances I would give this ship a C rating. Due to the mechanical problems that left us stranded in Barcelona, and forced us to miss three of the scheduled ports I will give it and F. I will be very surprised if NCL will make me whole on the 36,000 extra Frequent Flier miles I had to use in order to change my flight departing from Barcelona instead of Rome because the ship could not make it there. Am 70, fairly fit, travelled with fit wife, both do not eat meat. Prefer quality over quantity. Have cruised many times before, but first time on NCL. Balcony on 10th floor. NCL has a culture problem in that do NOT pay attention to details with both admin, food and service being second rate. Most staff were either poorly trained or poorly supervised/managed Examples When booked was given 5 free offers. Letter in room said we only had 3, went to reception said ignore letter and that we had 7 “freebies” Cabin size small, especially toilet and shower, toilet paper cheap and nasty Went to freebie French restaurant( freebie offer of 2 nights free eating) on entering the restaurant had to wait 10 minutes for a waiter, although there was only 1 other table occupied. Observed a server walking along carrying plates and coughing without covering his mouth, restaurant manager ignored the coughed. Ordered appetisers, which were extremely poor, and not eaten, then walked out. Manager did not ask if we enjoyed the food or why we were leaving. At breakfast for first few days, overeasy eggs were served hard and poached eggs just warm on soggy bread and were left uneaten, no questions asked by wait staff. Rest of cruise ate cereal and toast. Ate dinner in main dining room. For the first time ever I sent 5 dishes back to kitchen, white fish over cooked to dry, and other dishes served just warm. Last 3 nights ordered mashed potato and broccoli as main meal. The NCL fish “speciality” is a frozen crumbed fillet of ? However night wait staff were excellent as were desserts. Buffet meals were poor and had the quality of a $7.99 all you can eat place. The entertainment except for last night was poor, 2 nights of magic a ballroom dancer night, a classical pianist etc, on other cruises these acts would be in the atrium The crowning disaster of this cruise was it’s engine failed, meaning we missed three ports and terminated at Barcelona rather than Rome. Communication to passengers was a shambles, however Ncl provided $300 per person in air fares and 50% refund in cash and 50% in credits for future cruises, not that I would ever travel with them again. We’re a young couple from the UK who have cruised before but not with Norwegian – we chose Norwegian for the itinerary. Summary of our experience – the majority of staff were rude and non-English speaking, hygiene was awful amongst staff making it inevitable that the majority of guests would get sick (turning the ship into a Zombie apocalypse), the food was tasteless, lacked in variety and was often inedible, dietary requirements were not taken seriously (if you are vegetarian you will be fed meat) and if you complain about anything you’re argued with, treated like a criminal and made to feel very uncomfortable for the rest of your holiday. Needless to say we will not be cruising with Norwegian again. Now onto the good, the bad and the ugly: Ship – the ship is a bit dated and the rooms are in need of modernisation. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed with little dress codes. With a cold itinerary, I would have expected an undercover pool area but there was not, meaning there is little to do when the weather is bad, unless you’re interested in the knitting club… The windows were not cleaned (which I have experienced on past cruises) so guests are unable to see outside clearly. Staff were rude, argumentative and most did not speak good enough English (to the point where they'd take a plate of food away which I told them I had not finished with). Demographics – most guests are elderly and in retirement, from a mixture of countries. I’d say the majority are from the USA. We were surprised that a lot of guests were rude (barging past, making unnecessary comments) which we have not experienced on past cruises. Main dining rooms – we thought flexible dining times would be a good idea, but in reality there were long queues and a rushed, poor dining experience. The food was very hit and miss, sometimes very nice but 50% of the time it would be tasteless and we’d end up going to the buffet afterwards! Although when we complained about the food, the maitre’d would let us customise the menu the evening before if there were things we would like different or changed. Buffet – the food was mostly tasteless, often inedible and had a lack of variety. The only nice thing was the Indian dishes. The traffic light colour signs in the buffet were incorrect every day, even after we informed the chef and maitre'd of this. Their response was the signs are "guidelines" and so those marked vegetarian and vegan could in fact contain meat and dairy. Coleslaw that was marked green (meaning no meat or dairy) in fact had chicken in which I had to spit out. Potato skins that were marked green had mincemeat on top, mixed in with beans. The list goes on. I was also told by the first person I asked that the coloured signs are to be ignored, that they are meant for the staff and mean hot and cold… The staff would use the same tongs to move around the meat dishes and vegetarian dishes – when I confronted one member of staff about it (whilst he was rearranging the vegetarian pizza with the meat pizza tongs) he did not know what the colour signs meant and continued to mix and match. The maitre'd argued with me in the middle of the buffet area, making me feel humiliated and extremely uncomfortable when visiting the buffet again. I felt like a criminal, when all I pointed out was the wrong colour signs and the need to be confident I was not eating meat again. Being vegetarian was not taken seriously so I would avoid Norwegian if you have any dietary requirements. Premium dining package / restaurants – we paid for a premium dining package for 5 restaurants yet only visited 1, La Cucina. We could not use the package at any of the other restaurants, as they did not cater for vegetarians. Teppanyaki does cater for vegetarians but we were told they would have to cook our food in the kitchen area, removing the “live” dining experience and making it pointless. La Cucina was an awful experience and not edible (much worse than the buffet food). When we spoke to reception we could not change the dining package to something else, as we had already visited La Cucina and the bill had been charged to our room, even though I did not eat anything and complained about the food. I was even told by reception to go to the steakhouse and eat nothing, so that my partner could "enjoy the meats", which we could not believe!! Hygiene – The hygiene standards were poor, which we were surprised about due to a virus outbreak reported on the cruise ship during April and May. Hygiene was awful amongst staff, making it inevitable that guests would get sick. Staff would not cover their mouths when they coughed and thus spread germs over the buffet areas. Of course you could not bring this to anyone’s attention as they would (pretend?) to not understand you, argue and treat you like a criminal. Entertainment – the theatre performances were excellent, I loved each one. The majority of performers were external and brought onto the ship for the night. The Russian folklore show was great. We’re glad we didn’t plan to see a folklore show in St Petersburg! Ports – the terminal locations specified on the NCL website were incorrect, and customer services kept providing us with different terminal locations throughout the booking process. Docking at different locations ruined our planned itinerary (Poland, Lithuania and Finland were all wrong). We were not informed of the Visa requirements for Russia when making the booking, even though we specified we were on a tight budget and called to find out all possible costs. This was a huge unexpected expense we were unhappy about. Make sure you check Visa requirements prior to booking, as Visas for Russia cost us hundreds of pounds! Read Less

This was the most mismanaged cruise I have ever been on. The new crew out of NY didn’t know what the he’ll they were doing! The specialty restaurants were under par. The service was horrible, I gave Cagneys 3 try’s, The same every time... I was on this ship a year ago and the management was so much better. The shore excursions were a disaster, in Dublin we had only an hour on our hop on hop off bus and had to get off and take a cab back to the meeting point, because we got off the ship so late. In Paris, another joke, I had an 11:30 guided tour at the Louve, which should have been no problem because I’ve been there several times before, again by the time be got off the ship and on our way we were very late, then when we arrived in Paris it was a holiday and the roads were closed off for the bus to park, so we drove around another half hour trying to park. We got off the bus and got a cab, by the time we got to the Louve our tour guide was long gone, we wound up having 90 min in the Louve before we had to catch a cab back to the bus that was just parked on a stree somewhere...6 hours on the bus back and forth to get 90 min in Paris, what a joke! London was another fiasco,.. Belgium was the only port we got out of the ship in enough time to see anything. The sail was rough, I spoke to a girl in my hotel that came in on a Royal Caribbian Ship, she said there sail was great, not rough at all... Then to top it off half the people on the ship had gastritis and were sick, thus the reason the buffets wouldn’t let you serve yourself on day 2 of the sail, obviously the ship was contaminated when we got on board. The entire sail was a disaster and Norwegian should refund all our money! I will never sail Norwegian again! Read Less

35th anniversary, wanted to get to some highlights in northern Europe - first cruise (and most likely last ever) My wife rolled her ankle the day of the cruise and was experiencing some discomfort so we went to the medical services on the ship. There was a couple there before us, the wife looked like death warmed over and we listened to them fill out a form of where they ate over the last 3 days. They went into the doctor's office first, when they came out the doctor gave the woman some pills and told them they were quarantined in their cabin. Then the doctor asked us in the office and placed my wife on the examination table, checked her out and then talked to us while we sat in the chairs in his office. The seas were pretty rough on the Atlantic... first time on the ocean... already got charged $180 from the doctor for the ankle... so when my wife got sick we presumed it was motion sickness - at least at the start. They forced us all to go through customs on the boat, called us large numbers forcing us to stand outside in the cold and waves - my wife threw up standing in line - good times. She got better, then I came down with it - I have never had sweat drip off my nose like that. The doctors quarantined me, we missed the first excursion (one of the few days without rain). While we were quarantined, the captain came on and told everyone if the were caught outside their room we would be kicked of the ship at the next port - then he repeated it in the same announcement. My first response was - this is our out!!! My second response was - sick people probably won't report themselves as being sick now. My biggest complaint is that they waited too long to get serious about the sickness (shutting down the gym, controlling the dining areas). For days after the quarantine you still won't enjoy food again - especially when you have to see someone else's puke on the floor in the dining room. The excursion disembarkation needed some help with planning - at the end of the day I wouldn't mind a 3 hour delay if I could have stayed in my room or grabbed some breakfast - imagine several hundred people waiting in a room, booing the cruise activity director as she asked them to please be patient (for the 40th time). The longest delay involved tethered boats. My wife and I finally got on the tethered boat and it was pretty frightening - big gaps as the boat separated away from the boat, raised higher than the step off landing, and dropped away from the step off landing. They helped us on the lifeboat then we were on our own - there was an older woman screaming in horror, I lost my footing and hit a corner with my shoulder (glad it wasn't my wife's head). A young Norwegian employee performed the sign of the cross and later put on a life vest (I got that on video). They ended up disconnecting the boat before it was full (separating one of the families) - they re-positioned the lifeboat on the other side of the ship to finish loading. There was a lot of pressure to get folks off that ship - but that was dangerous. The dude who cleaned our rooms was awesome - the folks who served us in the dining areas were great - customer service... not so much (they should plant some secret cruise testers to try to call the front desk from their rooms) Its not how low you go, its how far you fall - we were both so excited about our first cruise Read Less

I choose this cruise for the itinerary. I thought this cruise line was suppose to be good. I have traveled on cruises many, many times. I have never been on such a horrible trip. This trip had Nora virus on board. 3 days out all passengers had to go to the sun deck and walk around in front of Irish immigration people. Imagine over 2000 people doing that. One person threw up in front of the immigration people. No body cleaned it up or even put chairs over it so no one would walk threw it. As a result the disease rapidly spread. Many parts of the ship were closed due to the Nora virus. So no one was able to enjoy the facilities that they had paid for. The cruise was a second class cruise and not worth the money spent. The attitude of the crew kept going down and down as the trip went on. They were working all hours trying to stop the spread of the virus. They washed the walls down with a bleach solution. But the virus was in the carpet from people walking threw the vomit earlier. The ship was out of control. 3 days out on our cruise there were 27 sick people. At the end there were over a 1000. That was just passagers many of the crew were sick too. I got this information from the front desk. As for food, I ordered a steak in the main dining room. It was so tough and tasteless I could only eat a few bits. The service in the dining rooms was sparse and poor. The food overall was poor. We went to specialty restaurants. Their food was marginally better. At the end we had one specialty restaurant to go to which we had paid for. We did not bother, knowing the food would be poor. I was looking forward to good food but got marginal food. Our next door neighbor was thrown off the ship one port before Amsterdam. He had said he was going to the media about the ship. They came for him at 7:30 in the morning, an officer, photographer and a security guard. They said he was immediately to get off the ship. He told him he needed time to pack. They packed and then were told as he was escorted off the ship threw the crew passages "if they made a fuss they would get the Chinese to escort them off and they would hurt them." They had to pay themselves to get to the next port. The captain was out of line to do this. All they said was they would go the media about the cruise. In our country we have freedom of speech, I hope he does go to the media. You do not pay money to be abused and this was abuse of power. I cannot imagine going on another Norwegian cruise. It was unbelievably stressful to experience this. I truly was scared as to what would happen next and worried about my daughter's and my own safety as I had seen and heard to much. I chose the cruise for the itinerary. I was traveling with my 80 year old mother and we really liked the ports. Both of us are well traveled but never could we have expected such a disaster of a cruise. I can let the terrible weather not bother me. Or even find fun in the 50 mPH winds with 30degree F wind chill. That’s Mother Nature and what can you do. Since we didn’t get sea sick it was almost calming feeling the sway. But unfortunately that was not the case for many. I feel we had an experienced captain who thinks it’s ok to threaten everyone that he will throw you off the ship if you don’t do what he says. I also feel that based on the fact that I heard the number of sick people by day 3 was 27 and by day 10 was over 1000 of the 2500 passengers. Even if it was your traveling companion sick you too were quarantined to your cabin. They ACTUALLY sent in these poor crew members dressed in hazmat type gear to clean up after these sick people. I’m very sure the cruise company made a lot of money by forcing people to see the ship doctor at $200 minimum a visit. Even room service is an extra charge at $7.95 per person if you use it and that is per time you use it. I was told Norwegian doesn’t like seeing dirty dishes in the hallways, so this stops people from ordering in the middle of night. So no dishes in hallways, but there were ALWAYS cleaning carts blocking halls. You are also not allowed to bring even a water bottle on board. The crew will happily make you pour it out. They lie and say it’s security like at the airport. But that is a lie. It’s to force passengers to do it one way only and that's to spend on Norwegian. This company is a bunch of people acting like Natzi’s and risking our lives from poor cleaning, poor security and a crew that liked to bully passengers. Even if an announcement was very very important they weren’t smart enough to have it in every room instead only in some. It’s their way of keeping the passengers in the dark. The excursion company that Norwegian used is more than awful. Plus in Dublin since my excursion was in the afternoon and you had to use your excursion tickets as your tender ticket, the Pearl crew would not let me off early to go into Dublin. Since my excursion was in the countryside, I didn’t get to see ANY of Dublin. They wouldn’t let us off the ship. People also got hurt on tenders due to not having caring staff helping people get on and off. If I hadn’t. Even there for my 80 year old mother I’m sure she would have fallen. I’m Le Havre the Security was a joke. The terminal staff left promptly at their end of shift regardless of people standing in line to get packages, purses and bags scanned, and for people to walk through scanners. Norwegian let more than 50 people just walk on like it didn’t matter. In FRANCE!! Are they kidding me. Even things like broken locks on doors to balcony’s didn’t matter. I reported my two locks broken 8 times. Nothing in mini fridge and was accused if asking for an empty mini bar. It took 5 days to get mini bar partially filled. Was told by cabin steward that no Diet Pepsi was available for mini bars but bar manager said it would be filled. I got used to three things being a constant comment from the guest relations staff. One-just lie, two, say you don’t know, and three just say no. Not one map of one town or any info was included in nightly program like on every other cruise line. This cruise line is cheap and even if you have a mini suite you get the same amenities as a inside cheaper room. Sure there are free packages for drinks but the tipping for two people on this so called free drink package was in excess of $550 total for 2. Then there is extra tipping on the so called free specialty restaurants. They just keep asking for more money and gave less quality, less everything! I probably would have saved by going on a more expensive cruise line then with all the nickel and diming Norwegian does. We were given one of those really small bars of soap for two people to share for 13nights. Even when it fell into pieces we weren’t given a new one. Many days we couldn’t even get a bath mat for the tub/shower. And forget getting more than one body, one hand and one wash cloth for towels per person. No way no how. Do not go on this line for any reason. Even though we were treated like crap and it was our first cruise with Norwegian, they treated people who had spent more than 150 nights traveling with them worse. What a horrible company!! Read Less

What a total disaster of a ship. I can’t say one good thing about it. The staff was uninformed, food was horrible, excursions horrible, entertainment horrible. There’s just not one good thing I can say. NCL owes everyone on that ship a refund. They totally failed on everything including how the virus epidemic was handled. Up until this cruise I had become a NCL fan. Enjoyed my last 3 cruises this year with them. Never again. In fact I’m giving my cruisenext funds to a family member. The best day was departing the ship and spending the day in Amsterdam. Sorry for anyone who has a future cruise in the Pearl. The captain and cruise director stink at their jobs. Stay away for the medical team at all cost. They are rude and condescending and won’t even answer a question. The customer service crew is all new and uninformed. We were constantly misled by their information. Read Less

This was an itinerary that I really wanted o do. The price seemed right, but that was the last thing that went well. I had a little stomach upset on the first day, Went to the medical office to buy some Imodium. (they do not sell it in the gift shop) They refused to sell it to me unless I had an 'exam' from the ship's doctor. I was charged $216 for a 10 pack. The false medical report that stated I received an complete exam when the doctor never touched me although his report says differently. (ps...no fever and a BP of 110/72, I was fine and they knew it. This was just another way to make extra money.) Then there was the extras $268.00 cost for the Spa's Thermal room. It was only completely open for four days. We were offered a $36.00 credit which barely covered the lost days...but it didn't really matter, because we never got the credit anyway. The food choices were repeated every couple of days...poor choices and very little flavor. The captain steered us into a major storm, which he said was "unexpected" My phone shows the weather 10 days in advance; maybe I should have offered it to him. Then the virus hit. Half the ship was sick and confined to their staterooms, The crew had over 200 people down with the illness. We had six days at sea and very few activities to help fill the time. Bingo was $39.00 for three cards, each day. Deal or No Deal was 25.00 and lasted about 20 minutes. The afternoon movies were the same four movies repeated again and again. They were shown in the center of the ship right next to guest services. Even if you wanted to watch them, you couldn't hear them. I am a true believe that you make your own fun; but there was NOTHING that could have saved this trip. I have cruised NCL a few times before and was expecting much better. I cannot recommend this line anymore. Read Less

In the summer palace restuarant I found a dead fly in my salad and at monderno restaurant the server had chicken on a skewer and it slid off bounced on the table and hit the floor. He then kicked it under the table.i paid $500.00 for two thermal spa passes for 13 days.they closed the pool for 5 and said if they prorate the cost they would charge me more.so be happy with it. FIrst it’s interesting not to see a lot more comments since there were Cruise Critic Members on board. Unless you had Specialty dining the food was fair to poor. A comment by a staff member in one specialty restaurant even said, “yes, we should teach them how to cook”! Even one of the specialty restaurants was so bad that our friends cancelled a dinner. The restaurant service was poor, very inconsistent. Bar service was always good, consistent. My opinion they saved the day. The virus reeked havoc everywhere. Closing facilities like the gym, library and game room leaving passengers with limited places to hang out. The weather was not good so there was no escape outside. Excursions were the biggest disappointment with staffing not communicating causing our excursions to be late our cut short. Dublin was a disaster, I hope they fix it or drop it. London was terrible due to late start, Little communication, tour company not communicating while being transferred on their bus. France equally had issues getting us out at our scheduled time. Finally in Belgium they got it going, though I suspect some passengers missed their excursions because they assumed it’d be another delayed day. Our Brugge On Your Own tour was great, that tour company gets an A+. All and all I won’t be rushing to book myself on NCL anytime soon. Read Less
