We didn't choose this cruise our friends did. As we entered the pier to embark, traffic was backed up. We were trying to get to the drop off area. An hour later ( distance 1/4 mile) we finally arrived.The area for commercial vehicles ( buses, shuttles,etc) is in the same area. Directions and people helping direct traffic were the worst I've ever seen. The Royal Caribbean people were arguing with each other. Need I say more? We did find out later that there was a problem with Port Authorities and people wouldn't get off the ship.
So we pull up to unload our luggage. I hand our paperwork to RC crew member, they put the wrong numbers on our luggage, luckily my husband caught the mistake. So it has to be done all over again and wrong tags removed. We ended up helping the guy do his job. I'd said by now we aren't impressed.
There are people everywhere somehow we found our way out of the masses to check in. Check in was smooth. We were given our room keys and boarding number and told where to go to wait to be called to board. We found our friends. Going on board was a long walk up ramps. Note: don't carry much luggage on. We carried just a pilot case.
We walked on board it was beautiful but overwhelming. Crew members everywhere trying to sell beverage packages, dining packages, excursions, etc. We felt that they nickel and dimed us everywhere we turned. Just check out the prices for beverage packages, dining packages and excursions. We needed to make one specialty dining reservations that our travel agent had given us. We chose Chops Steaks. So we got it done there and fast. The Chops restaurant was our favorite. Our waitress, Carmella from Brazil was great. She was very attentive, caring, efficient and used our names when speaking to us. The food is awesome. If you get to choose one restaurant to splurge on chose Chops. Then we also received a free spa treatment from our travel agent so I went to schedule that. There was no lines at the Spa one person in front of me. I scheduled a facial, usually when I have them done on cruise ships they are awesome. Guess what? Not this time. :(
We decide to eat at the Doghouse. Another mistake. Hot dog and sausage not even warm. Crew member wasn't friendly or caring at all.
So we decide to walk around and get familiar with how this ship is set up. Then at 1:00 pm we could go to our cabin. We were surprised to find 2 bottles of wine from our travel agent and Royal Caribbean. Also, a special they were having that we booked under Eat.Drink.Play. this included a specialty dining for lunch. So we chose Giavionni's Italian restaurant. It was delicious but service was awful and they weren't even busy.
We chose to do My Time dining and had scheduled our times before boarding. We also scheduled our nightly entertainment before boarding. Since we had 14 people in our party, our friends made sure that everything was set for seating every one in our group. We were told 2 tables of eight with the same waiter and assistant waiter. Our waiter Krisna and assistant Navin were great. We also became friends with the assistant and MaitreD. They knew we were having some problems with the staff at dining room reservations. For some reason, they couldn't do a line of tables for 14 people but could do 12. This was accomplished except one night we had to change the reservation because the show we wanted to see, Come Fly with Me was canceled. It was canceled the rest of the cruise. :(
One morning for breakfast we went at Johnny Rockets early before 9:00 am. Great breakfast, fast and great service. There was a long line when we finished eating. We did the dining room or Solarium Bistro the rest of the days. For lunch one day, we went to Sorrento's for pizza. It was pretty good. The other days, we went to Windjammer, or Park Cafe ( deck 8). We loved the Promenade Cafe, 24 hours coffee shop with coffees,soda, water,specialty coffees, sandwiches, cookies and desserts. There's a Starbucks also.
There were some great shopping on the ship sales.
Our cabin steward was awesome. We requested an ice bucket every night and it was there. About 4 nights at turn down we had a towel animal greet us. Our room was cleaned spotless every day and every evening. Our cabin overlooked Central Park, every night there was someone playing the piano and/ or violin. Great romantic setting for drinking our wine on our balcony.
It was an enjoyable week. But we doubt that we will sail again with Royal Caribbean. Read Less
