We choose this cruise due to travel dates and destinations. However if I’d known the minimal standard of this ship I would of seemed alternative options. On embarking it was chaos it clearly states on boarding papers that it commences at 11.30am. However didn’t get on board till 2.30pm. No crew took charge provided any updates. On board it clearly states where smoking is allowed and smoking in cabins or on cabin balconies is not permitted. Leaving Venice everyone was smoking flicking ash etc. contacted reception who advised us to contact them with cabins who were doing it so they could address it. We asked several guests not to flick there ash it was blowing on us but people were rude and aggressive in their response. We contacted reception who said security would speak to guests. However when security turned up they said it was an issue for housekeeping. Our issue with the smoking was that people were flicking aah and not been respectful of others. Mindue has to have a giggle when the ship sells cheap cigarettes onboard. the pool area was overcrowded with on average 40+ adults and minimum 10 children in each of the pools at one time. There is no adult only areas at all. The bars etc has no limitations either. One night we went down for disco at midnight and guests were turning up there with prams with young babies. The music was so loud and young children were grisly. Certainly not a place to take your young children. Excursions. We were meant to go to Mykonos but due to Weather we were diverted twice and arrived at Chania. However customer service could provide no information on the town and there response was they hadn’t been there before. No initiative to seek information for guests. We were then advised that they would discount the bus shuttle for £5. Upon arrival at port it was chaos no crew were there giving directions and the lines trying to get out gates were insane. Finally after people had been in line in the hot sun for over 30minutes the crew went out to assist. It was frustrating as people with young families had stood in line for a long time waiting for shuttles and when you got to gate you could get local bus following the same route for £3.40 and taxi one way was £10. To give them credit we enjoyed the excursions to Olympia, acropolis. However each one costs average of £60 Disembarking: Each person was allocated tags/colours along with times. Initially they were announcing groups then this ceased along with the updates on the screen s. It wasn’t until we approached crew that they advised we could disembark. Upon leaving ship there was one free shuttle to transport all passengers to the main terminal. Again no communication from crew. Terribly unorganised ship Read Less

For some background, my dad took me (19 years old) and my brother (27 years old) on our first cruise. Since this was my brother and I’s first cruise our expectations were not high. We saw a lot of bad reviews before coming but we decided to give the cruise line a shot. All of the ports on this cruise were gorgeous and we had a good time other than the ship being delayed causing us to get off early to make our flight back to Toronto. This is a long review but I hope it helps. Pros / SERVICE: Sheldon Dsouza the bartender and his girlfriend Maria are great! They were the best thing about the cruise! Sheldon is usually in the blue velvet lounge at night. They were also the best service we got on the ship. The ports were also beautiful. Time of ship / Communication of workers: I have heard cruises are usually on time but this one would arrive and leave late from the ports. Two days before the cruise ended, they notified us we would get into our last port late causing us to miss our flight. There was not much help from reception at all to help us figure something out and what we should do. We ended up getting off a day early, in Croatia. We dropped about $1400 on plane tickets to Venice so we could catch our flight from Venice to Toronto. Reception told us all we had to do was go to deck 4 and ask where immigration was. But nobody knew and was just sending us to different people. We were supposed to get off in Venice at 9 am, so the travel person with Expedia that we were organizing the trip with told us just not to book our flight before 12. We booked it for 12:30 and she said we would be fine. Now that we were getting in 2 hours late, we would miss our flight. (Note: Our friends we met told us they did not get to the airport till 1pm. Lesson learned to book a late flight or book one for the next day!) Boarding/First day: The day the cruise started, everyone seemed to get boarding passes/luggage tags in the mail but we got nothing. Disembarking at the ports were not organized at all unless you had an excursion it was pretty organized. Boarding in Brindisi took a long time to board, I guess since everyone got back at like the same time on the shuttles. For the restaurant seating arrangements; we did not have any arrangements till the day of. Unlike others had it done before they got there. Apparently, they have difficulties with the Canadian website so that may have been the problem. Kids/Activities: there were a lot of kids on the cruise and all were around the pool area so could not really “relax”. There was an adult’s only area on the top deck for an extra fee but it is not worth it. It is just a bar and some chairs. I also found there were not a lot of activities during the day which was fine since we would just spend the day at the port. Money: We choose MSC due to the fact it was cheaper. But a lot of added stuff just boosted up the price, like the fact water or soft drinks were not included so you had to buy the drink package. Free water in the caf, but buying water bottles at dinner was 2.90 euros for the big one. Not a big deal but even though we said no they added a unisef donation (1 euro/ person). Security: there was a lot of security to get off / on the boat. Which I think caused most of the delay to get onto to the boat. We had to keep retaking our picture since they did not like it and thought it was too blurry. Theme nights: the cruise line did not let us know the theme nights beforehand (formal, white, causal). So, we packed nice clothes for dinner of course, but my brother and my dad did not pack white. There was then a white party at night so they did not want to go and be the only ones not wearing white. So, would have been nice to know beforehand. Entertainment: Did not go to any during the day since we were enjoying ourselves at the ports. At night, we went to the shows. They were good. Some nights they had a party after but we did not attend any. We would just go hang out in the blue velvet lounge with our favourite bartender (Sheldon). I did not go to the disco but I heard from someone else they did dance lessons in there one night lol. Wi-fi: wi-fi sucked and gets used up very quickly. You can track the usage online though and see which person uses the most Wi-Fi. You can all use it at the same time but it does make it run a little slower. Food: food at dinner was very good. Breakfast and lunch were not as good. During breakfast once, there is a sit down one and there was a hair in my pineapple. They asked if I wanted anything but all I wanted was a fruit tray..without hair lol. They got my room number so we thought maybe they would do something but they did not, which is fine. It is also a mess trying to get around the buffet area since it is so busy. There was a snack bar open at night but it was very upsetting since there was barely any food (if you want pizza after 10:30 you have to pay for room service). Cabins: We had an oceanview balcony. It was small for three people but the balcony helped with getting air into the room. Our fridge did not work though; we let them know and they came two days later. We just wanted the fridge to keep our own water cooler but keeping it out in the room kept it colder than the fridge. Fitness & Rec: Gym was small. They also said there was a ‘golf practice’ on the ship but there was none. When I asked where it was they pointed me to the mini-golf even though on the signs on the ship it showed golf practice on deck 13 and mini gold on deck 15. Also said there was a ‘power walking track’ but there was no track either. Excursions: The most organized thing about the cruise. We did a “bus transfer to Olympia” in Katakolon and just bought our tickets to inside there. We saved about half the price without doing the tour and we loved it. They had signs explaining what everything was, so if you can read. I suggest doing this instead of the tour. In Athens, we did “Athens and the Acropolis”. Very busy but the tour guide was good. There was not much free time in Athens to eat so make sure you eat before or bring food. Then in Dubrovnik, we did the Kayak tour and it was beautiful. It is a lot of work but loads of fun. Lunch is included in the tour which is nice. Would I take this cruise line again or recommend it? Nope. WE ALL LOVED THE PORTS THOUGH! Read Less

I have read a lot of bad reviews about the MSC Musica and was very worried but it was amazing! Embarkation and Disembarkation were not great experiences however apart from that everything was great. The staff are second to none and cannot do enough for you. The shows were fabulous and the entertainment staff work non stop to make sure everyone is having fun. The bar staff are so friendly and the cleaners keep the place spotless. Food was great, my son loved the pizza especially. We only used the buffet as have no complaints. The ship never felt overly busy and you could always find a space for yourself. We had a balcony room which was fabulous and had everything we needed. The Itinerary was the reason I booked this cruise and it didn’t disappoint with the highlights being Mykonos, Dubrovnik and Venice. Brindisi was a surprise too such a beautiful little town. This was a first cruise for myself and my son and we loved everything about it from start to finish. I set my expectations low and everything exceeded my expectations! Read Less

We choose this cruise due to destinations it sailed to. After reading so many negative reviews I was a little bit worried about going with MSC. But let me be honest. EMBARKING After reading about chaos at embarking, this chaos comes due to witnessing the most impatient people I've ever seen trying to get on ship first. People that don't think they should queue. Your given a number and when it's called you go to security. If you can be patient everything is fine, if being impatient bothers you, you'll ruin your own holiday yourself. Watching people having a paddy cause they want to board on number 5 instead of 6 was actually hilarious. CABINS OK so when we got to enter the cabin it nice, not the best cleaning Ive seen ( a few smudges on a mirror) but at end of day it wasn't going to ruin my holiday and make me complain. The cleaner did nice touches and even left us cakes one night, I acknowledged this with a thank you note back. RESTAURANT we had 2 amazing waiters Michael from South Africa and Juni from Indonesia. We had a laugh with them every night, nothing to much trouble. If I didn't like any starters I had 2 mains instead. If you don't ask you don't get, but the problem seems to be witnessing the manner in which people ask. Talk to them in a rude manner you'll get one back, be polite and they will go above and beyond for you. Portions are small but I never went hungry. MSC are not your royal carribean or princess standard, but we didn't pay those prices to start with so don't compare the two otherwise pay more for your holiday. OVERALL We couldn't really find any faults with the ship at all. After reading so many bad reviews I soon came to realise that some people expect to much. The ships very clean, the staff work extremely hard and have been on the ship many months without a break, they may be at your disposal but treat them like humans and with respect to get the same back. Don't be put off by the hard hotdog cob review (we never found that). Also didn't get my food luke warm, weather that's because we was on first sitting. Our food always came out at a good temperature. Beware of the passengers who act like animals at feeding time in a zoo, racing up and down acting like its all going to go in a flash, this isn't Msc fault, it's your fellow passangers behaving like that, way to avoid is to go at quiter times I.E just before all trips come back to ship. Have you ever been to a buffet where the labels are in place, promising tasty treats and then you find that all the food is already gone? That is how this MSC cruise felt in most respects. There is definitely potential and in better hands this could be a great cruise, but MSC and its employees just turns this into a bad experience. Embarkation in Venice was slow. There is a shuttle bus from port entrance to boat, but apparently the one bus they have suffered a breakdown so everybody was lugging luggage through 100 degree weather. Meanwhile an entire fleet of Royal Caribbean busses was standing by for their guests. Disembarking was even worse - they have staggered departure times, but everybody has to leave their cabins at the same time, 8 am. So you have thousands of people descending on the breakfast buffet which can accommodate only a quarter of the guests at any given time, everybody fighting over table space. 40 minutes after the posted departure time we were able to leave for the transfer busses. We did all our own excursions, except for Dubrovnik where we wanted to use MSC’s offering. It took the excursion desk a few attempts, but eventually we got the correct tickets. The excursion got cancelled the day before arrival because MSC did not have as many participants as they had hoped for. I have had many jaw-dropping experiences during the cruise where the crew does the absolute minimum amount of work, but I am just going to leave you with the first such encounter: shortly after check-in I found that somebody else’s luggage had been delivered to our door instead of their cabin which was on a different floor. There was an MSC crew member with a radio posted on nearby stairs in anticipation of the safety drill later that day. I let him know that I found some suitcases that people are waiting for on a different floor. His reply: that is not my responsibility - please go down to the front desk and let them know. The one great thing about this cruise was their main band which plays ballroom music. There were surprisingly few dancers on this ship, so they kept asking us for our song requests and made recommendations. Having a private band is awesome! Read Less

We chose this cruise because the kids were free and since we were getting married it seemed like a good choice to offset some of the costs. This was my first cruise but my husband had previously cruised before on many other ships and if it was just for me I would never cruise again based on my experience on MSC but my husband swears that he's never had such bad experience on other cruises. I don't know where to begin. First, our pool towels were never changed even if I left the dirty ones in the shower, they would get folded and put back on our bed. The embarcation and debarcation was a fiasco at each port. It was disorganized like it was their first time which created long waits. The food in the buffet was limited and always running out, long waits for them to refill the food. There was never any ice at the machine except very early morning. ALL the food buffet and restaurant were "ok", nothing special just ordinary. Everything tasted the same because it lacked seasoning. Usually you have a big "always available menu" for when you don't like the dining menu but there was only 2 options there for the entire week, grilled chicken and fries. The portions were very small, we often had to get 2 dishes because of the size. The service in the dining room was awful. Given the wedding, we had a group of 17 seated together but at different tables next to each other. We never (both tables) ate together the entire week. Their table was always finished 45-60 minutes before us. At our own table, we were never served at the same time either since they would bring out dishes as they were ready and not per table which meant that sometimes 3 people would be eating then 5-10 mins later 2 more plates came then 2 more etc. On the night of the wedding, we decided to treat ourselves to the steak (20EURO/person). The steak was undercooked when we received it (20 minutes after our guests received their regular meals) so by the time we got it back it was 45 minutes later. The whole table was done eating and of course the other table in our group had already left which made it hard to serve the wedding cake (which they brought out as I was eating my steak). They then rushed us out because of the next seating was starting to come in which was the case all week but worse that night considering the circumstances of the wedding and cake. After the ceremony, we were taken all over the ship for pictures with the ship photographer which meant we left the ceremony hall with our personal decorations. We called and asked at service desk for the following 3 days (multiple times per day) and nobody knew where our stuff was and they kept saying that someone would get back to us but never did. We FINALLY received our stuff 1 hour before leaving the cruise. The entertainment was "ok". I expected a different act each night but it was the same all week but with different music and outfits. The dances are basically the same. I wanted magic one night, comedy another, dance another, acrobatic another etc. Also, on special nights such as 70's or white etc, they would close the lounges and disco to force you to go to their activity. That was frustrating. We wanted to go dance but couldn't because it would only open after the other thing was done, usually at midnight so on most nights we just went to bed early. My daughter (15) wanted to check out the teen club, we got there and there were young men (20's) hanging out with the kids and couldn't see any MSC cruise member supervising which is how this happened. I don't want my 15 year old hanging out with 20 year old men. Last issue, we had onboard credits while booking our cruise but the reception desk refused to let us use them. We only found out when we settled our bill at the end of the week. If we would of known, we wouldn't of spent to much. We were spending because we thought we had those extra credits. Read Less

We have been with msc before but this cruise from Venice was full of very noisy children and Italians. It was extremely noisy and we were on second sitting and could not hear yourself think. The food was reasonable and the service ok . The balcony cabin was very good as was the service from the steward. The boat was also noisy with strong vibrations , we were on deck 10 middle ship and it was difficult to get a good night sleep. They charge for every extra you could think of and for shuttles to the ports. The ports were good and Albania was a highlight The evening shows were first class the best we have seen and included magic , acrobats and comedy . We really enjoyed them. The reason for the average mark was mainly because of the noise and number of children on the cruise, this spoilt it for us as we are 70 years old and it was just too much. Always wanted to sail the Mediterranean! First ever cruise and included my kids. Really enjoyed the Musica. She is beautiful and versatile all restaurants are amazing. I will definitely want to sail again. Buffet area needs more control as guests hold up tables as well as deck chairs. Great time and a wonderful experience. Will definately do it again. Loved the cruise life and excursions and City visits Did not get the opportunity to use the jacuzzis as again guests are not controlled and usage should be timed. Maybe a displayed timer? Anil our cleaning person was awesome and very helpful. Could not afford the cocktails to our desire as the Rand is much weaker than the euro so costs were too much. But I am really looking forward to another cruise. Maybe the Caribbean will suite us next. My wife and kids was so amazed with my gift to them. Loved it Read Less

CONS -Embarkation - we were waiting for two hours in the port. The port guy was constantly shouting at you and people waiting. People in the queue were very poorly mannered, kicking, pushing you and trying to skip the long queues -MSC gave us incorrect drinks package and then blamed our travel agent saying travel agent provided incorrect info ( not true) -MSC allocated our preferred restaurant incorrectly and blamed our travel agent asking for that specific restaurant as per our request (not true) -Dirty bedlinen in the cabin ( stains) -Dirty bathroom ( dirty door, mirror, rust and dirt in the shower) -The balcony cabin is old and carpet/ furniture needs to be replaced very badly - The balcony is dirty and rusty - Customer service is non existent -at the very best they will ignore your complaints, otherwise they will shout at you , they could not care less about your comfort or satisfaction -Cold water at all tea stations- impossible to make a cup of tea -The pool was impossible to get into- too many poorly mannered people pushing you out of the way and kicking you ( we have got a balcony cabin Fantastica experience, which was supposed to be a luxury experience- what a joke!) -The Italian staff were very rude , inpatient, poorly mannered. They were constantly raising their voice and shouting at you. Anything we were asking for was too much of a trouble for them - Our waiter at dinner was really good but service in the restaurant during lunchtime was awful - the waiting staff was ignoring you, you could sit there for 30 min waiting to get a menu, the waiter at the door shouted at you when asked to take order ( shouting that he is not taking orders as he is a door waiter) -They will charge you for water in the cabin even when water is included with your package - They will add Unicef charge to your bill without asking you - I have got a severe allergic reaction within 10 minutes of drinking their cheap pina colada at the pool -They will mix french and english speaking groups together on excursions to earn more money, pure greed ( and will still charge you 90 euro per person). -Disembarking was terrible, staff were treating you like a cattle, long queues again for 3 hours, staff shouting at you, people kicking and pushing you, arrival was also late -Buffet was a mess, people running around, pushing you out of the way and trying to skip long queues - The wines included in the 30 euro per day package were very cheap and of a very bad quality , MSC cocktails gave me a severe allergic reaction PROS -The food was very tasty -Ports / towns where we stopped were very nice - especially Dubrovnik , Venice, Lecce, Mykonos, Olympia -Some Asian staff were very good, polite and friendly -Excursions were interesting and well organised ( except for the guide called Eva in Athens - Acropolis, Plaka and Museum tour- my advice would be to avoid this one) -Entertainment was really good Read Less

From the beginning things were terrible. Our cruise cards were not correct. We had the drink package and they put it on the card wrong. So we had to go the guest services to correct all three cabins cards. Then you have to wait in line to activate your card with a credit card. Why not do this at embarkation like other cruise lines. Cabin bed was not put together like on reservation. Another needed correction. No Kleenex in rooms under suites. They said no Kleenex on board but met a couple staying in a suite and they said suites got Kleenex. We had no wash clothes. Had to ask for them. Not that towel animals are needed. But they are cute and all other cruises we have been on we had them. Not MSC. Why not?Staff move in slow motion. Bar staff don’t even know what drinks they have. Food was average at best. Not what we are accustomed to on cruises. Very basic and not a good choice or selection for most meals. Our waiter was great. But he did not have a lot to work with. During dinner the staff are constantly walking around with fliers trying to get you to buy a 20 euro steak or lobster. Other cruise lines have lobster night and steak. Buffet was worse than cafeteria food. The staff up there don’t bus the tables quickly. Most days guests needed to bus their own tables. Excursions were so on organized. Getting off the ship was lines of people. Making you late starting your excursions. 2 excursions we returned later than we were supposed to. Luckily we booked with MSC so the ship was still there. The description of excursions is deceiving. We went on one to see the riviera waterfalls and shopping. We took an hour bus ride and saw a waterfall behind a restaurant and then another ride to a town that all the shops were closed for siesta while we were there to shop. Why did we go there? Room was not cleaned like we are used to on cruises. There was dirt on the floor for two days. Someone left a coffee cup by the elevator and it was there for 4 days. In the buffet a person dropped a piece of pizza and I counted 8 staff who either stepped on it or walked over it until someone finally picked it up. There are no little snack shops or restaurants to grab a quick snack during the day. The ports we stopped at were beautiful. But the ship staff and some excursions were sooo disappointing. Entertainment was not up to cruise standards. Every night was basically the same with a different theme. Singers were good. Dancers poor. They used the same set every night. Not broadway caliber. Get good entertainment. Anytime you have an issue they say it is a third party issue and they will email and get back to you. Never MSC again. Read Less

Used a cruise company to select suitable ship for 70yrs grandmother, daughter and granddaughter 5yrs, our first time on a cruise. The ship was old and tired throughout. Food was awful, commercial plastic produced selection, it was interesting to see what arrived on your plate after ordering, I sent many main and dessert plates back and lived on the fish dishes. I do not eat the poor quality of food that was offered, in my own home and expected to be wowed by the quality and presentation, not once did this happen. Theatre shows, pathetic. Crew were in general, miserable, especially Guest Services desk, used once and dreaded the 2nd and final 3rd time to settle my account. Child play areas on deck, boring. No play room for parents to take children to be together if you did not want to leave your child at the club! We played in the ship's library. No ice cream available, on an Italian ship!!!, no fresh strawberries or cherries, come on they were in season aplenty on shore! My overall impression of this once in a lifetime cruise, to make memories, "Benidorm on a Tugboat". I was offered 150 pounds voucher off the price of another cruise, I just laughed. Never ever again will I go on a cruise, even if offered free. It was dreadful and I just want to forget, worst holiday I have ever had in my 70 years. Read Less

We sail RCI and NCL every few months. Embarkation and disembarkation was shocking - didnt get onboard until 2.30pm as a black status holder. Its 10am now and no one has disembarked yet... we are standing in huge lines. The premium (suite and high value) guests were left standing in the rain for 45 after being taken through security too early with no shelter and the ship wasn't cleared for boarding. The shambolic nature of the cruise didn't stop there. By UK and US standards the food and service in the MDR was horrendous. The decor of the ship looks like a 90s Seniors home. By far the worst part of this cruise was the attitude of the staff towards the English speaking guests. One crew member even told us the American guests are hated because they see UK/US guests as too demanding and having too high expectations. We were nothing but polite to the crew and were replied to with prejudice and rudeness on many occasions. If you have any sort of problem you have to fight your corner... no one will take ownership and actually will become combative and obstructive back. My black status hadn't fed through to the ship and I was given a classic card. No big deal however when I approached guest services to ask for the correct card I was basically accused of lying even though I had three black status welcome emails. Their nature is to pass you from pillar to post. The rudeness is part of the culture of this line. If you're used to American lines please do not waste your money and vacation time suffering this disgraceful service. Our stateroom was tired with very noticable dirty on the carpets and dust on every surface. The dining was the worst we have ever experienced in any hospitality business. Entertainment shows were high quality. Never again MSC we will vote with our money. Read Less

No chairs on deck 7 under shelter to sit away from the pool area. Pay for movies Pay for everything extra Can’t go to the front of ship unless you are a top 16 or exclusive. Meals in the restaurant are tiny you have to order double and are cold. Meals in buffet are cold Drinks waiter at table 532 can’t understand a word of English Caos with getting on the ship. So many different stations that it all could have been done at the first one. Long cattle line queues No one to greet you when you get on board Didn’t even realise there was a cruise director. Didn’t hear or see her until the show on the second night and she was as interesting as a wet dish cloth. The whole ticketing system. You need a ticket for this or a ticket or that. While this was ok it was very confusing Couldn’t buy just a water package when on board had to buy another drinks package with less tickets. Ordered and pre paid for a bottle of wine and birthday cake to be in the room when we got on. It wasn’t. Had to ask for it 3 times before we finally received it in the restaurant and again we had to ask for it. The restaurant in squashed in like sardines. Have to pass own knives, forks and plates to other people on table for waiter as he can’t fit through. Head of house keeping should be very ashamed Opted for the laundry package once on board but they ruined all the clothes. The paid for the clothes to be washed and ironed but a 2 year old kid could have done a better job. The outside screen was never on and was told it was broken. The whole ship came down with a virus but there was not infection control to help contain it. We are still recover at home some 2 weeks later. Worst ship ever. Grand voyage my but there was nothing grand about it. We have cruise many times with other cruise lines this one just doesn’t match up to any other will never sail with them again. Read Less

We embarked on the cruise aboard the MSC Musica from Durban to Venice in April 2019 with expectations of the ship not being up to the standard to HAL/Princess/Celebrity but were hoping for an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, this did not occur. From the commencement of embarkation the experience took a downhill curve. Not only did it take hours, passengers had to line up in the direct sun (which was rather warm) whereas a simple redirection could have had the passengers in the shade. The organisational skills of the crew did not improve at all. We have never experienced that when boarding a ship there was litter on the floors, the cabin was dirty and not fully prepared. There were stains on most of our furniture and carpet and the nightly turn down was hit and miss. We purchased drink vouchers beforehand but when we went to collect them we were told that the dining room would have them. This was not the case. It took quite a few staff members to sort out the problem. All waterin the dining room has to be purchased - then you get a large 2 litre bottle plonked on the table. After enjoying a particular wine we asked for it again the second night - only to be told they had no more left. When we found that it could be bought in one of the bars, we asked the dining staff why he said they had no more - he admitted that he was advised by management that they wanted to keep this particular wine for the Mediterranean section and were told to 'get rid' of the cheaper wines. This type of lying was repeated many many times on board. There were no daily newsletters, the customary announcement by the Captain at 12 noon could not be heard - and occurred anytime from 11.30 to 1.30 pm. There were no TV or movies unless you were in a port and got the local channels or you purchased a movie from the ship at US$8 a time. The big screen above the pool never worked. The automatic doors from the bistro to the pool area never worked (we were told by a staff member that they never do) and there was plenty of dropped plates/drinks attempting to man handle the heavy wind proof door. Guest relations were an absolute joke - as one reviewer noted they pass you from pillar to post and hope you don't come back. Many an hour was spent lining up, being lied to and not getting issues resolved. We are not talking 'small' issues. It took 8 visits to get information on how to reboard the ship as we did back-to back cruises. If it was not for our cabin steward we would have left the ship with no documentation as to who we were and that we had purchased tickets to join the second leg. And then when we went to disembark the next day we were stopped by security and had to visit guest relations again as they had given us the wrong cruise card. We have yet to hear back regarding our stolen briefcase from our cabin ot only were staff rude, we found some at guest relations incompetent and unprofessional. The food quality was mediocre which we expected. Entertainment at night was reasonable. Internet packages although expensive worked well. We thankfully had organised our own shore excursions - from feedback from other cruisers that were onboard and went on MSC excursions, they werenot well organised and expensive. If it was not for our own excursion highlights, the trip would have been extremely disappointing. These are only a few of the numerous incidents that we could list. Others range from obtaining a glass of water (near impossible) getting charged incorrectlyfor wine when on 'special', their juice/soft drink packages not including fresh juice to name a few. All in all very disappointing. Read Less

Price and itinerary was the drawcard, but the cruise was just awful. Cold food with no flavour. No entertainment except for dancing and pool games. No movies or tv except if you paid for them. Treated like cattle on embarking took 2 hrs. Bistro closed at 2oc. Didnt get on till then. Room was dirty when we finally got in. Service at night in dining room was terrible took nearly 2 hrs and food was cold. The whole ship got sick with a cold virus. No news from outside world. Only cruise information was at midday from captain that was so quiet you couldnt hear it. Theatre shows were really bad, except for one the Witches show. Three tenors were amazing as well. Crew cast female singer was really bad. Same entertainment in same bars at same times every night. One female singer in piano bar was worse than me and thats bad. Need i go on....if you were to ask anyone who was on this cruise i know they would be of the same opinion not many happy travellers on this cruise. Italians dont have any idea on organisation of any activity. Shower would scald you one minuite then freeze you the next. I had a bad experience with a loose chair seat b4 this cruise only to find more tgan 50% of the chairs in bistro were loose. Upon complaining i was told yes we know madam but if we took them all out to fix them ee wouldn't have any chairs left and our saftey officer is not around. So they were prepared to be sued for an injury. Go figure.... Read Less

We have recently returned from the MSC Musica repositioning cruise from Durban South Africa to Venice. We have cruised with MSC previously so are perfectly aware of some of their 'foibles'. The main reason we chose this cruise was for the wonderful itinerary - we visited Reunion, Mauritius, The Seychelles, Aqaba, Suez Canal Transit, Katakolon, Kotor & Split. We had hoped that over the years maybe MSC would improve but sadly things were no better and in some cases worse. Embarkation at Durban was extremely poor - long queues going from desk to desk. Once on the ship we thought that was it, but no, more queues to get pre-paid drinks vouchers - I would have thought that these could have been delivered to the cabins or even put electronically onto our cabin card. We were not able to get into the cabins until after 3pm as they were still being cleaned, I heard of some passengers who’s rooms were still dirty. The luggage did not start arriving at the cabins until after the ship left Durban, some passengers did not get luggage until 10pm. This of course meant that many, like us, were not able to change out of their travelling clothes to go to dinner. The safety drill was held before we set sail. MSC’s safety drills have never been up to much, but this one was the worse - hundreds of people crammed into a show lounge with not enough seats for every one to be comfortable. A short recorded message was played and the putting on of the life jacket was demonstrated (if you could see). No one checked that passengers were putting the life jackets on correctly. We were then dismissed and advised to watch the safety demo on the cabin television (most of which were not working, more about that later). First night at dinner was chaotic, many ate in the buffet, but we chose to go to the MDR. We were shown to our table which I can only describe as being in a corridor/workstation that the waiters use. It was noisy with waiters charging past and other diners using it as a thoroughfare. The waiter who was looking after us took ages just to bring a drink, the food eventually arrived but it was cold and some of the table's order was incorrect. Additionally there were long queues of unhappy passengers waiting to see the Maitre D' to get their dining arrangements changed. The couple we were sitting with really wanted late dining, so they joined the queue and managed to change. We were happy with early dining, but we were not happy with the table that we were allocated, so we asked the Maitre D' if he could move us somewhere else. We were given a new table for the following night - this was in a better position and we had a wonderful waiter for the remainder of the cruise. The MDR for dinner, apart from being extremely overcrowded was adequate, the food to my standards was ok, the portions are on the small side and there is very little vegetables served with the main meal, but you only have to ask for extra veggies or whatever you like. Our waiters looked after us very well. The senior server was experienced and professional, the junior waiter was one of the ‘newbies’ and although extremely pleasant he had no knowledge of the wines he was serving or how to serve them. Breakfast and lunch 'Bistro' restaurant - MSC have an unusual set up for breakfast and lunch in the MDR, they call it a Bistro and basically it means that it is half waiter service and half buffet - you can choose to order from a menu or go to the buffet or a bit of both. Yes, it’s very confusing and it does not work. They also do not have a system in seating passengers, they seem to seat them anywhere where seats are available, making it very difficult for the wait staff. Other cruise lines have a computerised system so that they can see at a glance where seats are available. There were a lot of new wait staff most of them were totally inexperienced and furthermore had little or no customer service attitudes, rumour had it that quite a few were leaving the ship in Venice! Buffet - we rarely use the buffet, but from my limited observation, the choice of food seemed fair, but it was a mad house, getting food and a table. Service in general around the ship was poor, the main problem being there was not enough staff - you often waited a long time to be served in the coffee shops and bars. Reception staff could be rude and unhelpful. I ordered a birthday cake for my husband, it did not arrive in the restaurant on the night I requested it and after some 'insistence' they very ‘graciously‘ presented it to him the following night, but with no apology. Entertainment - I have mixed feelings about the entertainment. Some nights it was good, others it was very poor. They had an African group of Tenors who performed three times and were excellent. There was also rather a lot of classical music, probably too much for my taste. The MSC production shows tended to be very much the same. There was also entertainment in one of the show lounges, or on deck each evening, but these events did not start until quite late. Additionally there were usually some bars where you could go to dance or listen to music. There were never any movies shown either in the theatre or on deck or on the TV in the cabins. This was a very long cruise with a lot of sea days and I think a lot of people would have appreciated a few films. Day time entertainment was mainly limited to deck games and handicrafts. There were two 'lecturers'; one a lady who presented very interesting port talks and a man who apparently gave talks on a number of scientific/technical themes. Shopping was very disappointing - no choice, low stocks, poor merchandise, high prices. The cabin - we had an aft balcony cabin on deck 11. The cabin was equipped with all we needed, but it was quite small, the cupboard and drawer space (for a long cruise) was a bit of a squeeze. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was tiny and a bit worse for wear - the water in the shower either scalded you or froze you - there was no in-between. The TV never worked until we were In Europe, although we reported the fault several times. Our cabin boy did his best, he had 22 cabins to look after on his own and was often still working at past 10 pm at night - he definitely was not a happy boy. Our greatest disappointment was the balcony of our cabin. We had booked this cruise long in advance to secure a balcony cabin over the wake of the ship. However, there was inadequate information on the MSC website, as the balcony had no overhang above and therefore no shade or protection from the fierce sun. This made the balcony unbearable and unusable for much of the day. Hygiene standards - from quite early on In the cruise it became apparent that there was a nasty cough-type virus going around. As the cruise went on the coughing got worse - you could hear it all over the ship and especially in the theatre. The powerfully cold air-conditioning did not help. Some people seemed to be getting quite ill and needing to go to the ships doctor - some I spoke to were being prescribed antibiotic drugs. I contracted whatever bug it was about 10 days before the end of the cruise and it took me another two weeks after returning home to finally get over it. I think that the hygiene standards could have been better. There was gel available at the restaurants and other areas, but it was somewhat erratic, whether the staff encouraged passengers to use it. Itinerary and excursions - the wonderful itinerary was the main attraction of this voyage for myself and many other guests that I spoke to. We opted to do MSC organised excursions in most ports and generally speaking the excursions were very good and the guides were of a reasonable standard. The only issue with the excursions was getting from the ship to the excursion bus, the meeting place was generally the theatre or one of the big Lounges and it was pandemonium getting a ticket and getting off the ship. MSC provided a lovely cruise visiting some stunning ports of call, the weather was wonderful and the sea beautifully calm Is that enough to make a good cruise experience? In my opinion NO. As cruisers I think we want more, we want and expect great service and attitude, good food beautifully served. Fantastic entertainment and enrichment and above all a 'can do' attitude. When MSC can offer me that I may give them another try, but for time being I will be looking around for the best other cruise lines can offer Read Less

Heard about the cruise specials offered from work colleagues . Had never been on a cruise before and thought this trip would be a good idea. Kids still on nappies can be a problem as such is not catered for. Short cruises tend to be a problem as some of the facilities such as the kids day care and activities are only discovered midway through the cruise. Perhaps it would be better if a special invite or mandatory checklist could be given to folks with kids before boarding so they can make the most of this facility. The process to embark seemed a nightmare especially for people with kids and going through customs. First day boarding, was late due to the ship docking late(weather), however once boarded everyone is directed to one dining hall for lunch with queues of people, which I thought could have been better managed if the other dining halls were functional at the time however considering the late docking perhaps only this hall could be made available considering the short time. There were four jacuzzi's on board which are hogged by a select few. Rather have a time period for use of facilities so more people can enjoy the facilities ( better policing) Facilities such as the steam room also come with an extra charge. Inability to accommodate requests at the buffet area -especially disappointing for those who don't like their eggs sunny side up or half raw or those who refrain from eating pork/beef. Pros The abundance in entertainment ; facilities and shopping was well Read Less

One reason I choose to Cruise was to have fun and try out new experiences, how is it like to be in a titanic a 5 star moving hotel. The first time you enter the ship the ship smells 5 star and looks 5 star all the way, the decorations inside are amazing you even forget That you are inside a ship. The embarkation que is horrible, you can't wait for a while before entering the ship, and didn't like the fact that they only open few service desk during embarkation. The stuff members are super great and friendly especially the man responsible for our deck 8, even when most of them didn't know how to communicate in English but they tried. MSC is one hygienic cruise hotel I ever seen, every corner you turn there is sanitation thats what I loved. The food is super Healthy and they don't compromise on taste, everything I ate I could taste that it's quality food. The dinning areas I loved them because you get the opportunity to dress up and be fine and finned, only problem is you have to buy soft drinks all the time, I don't mind them selling alcohols wish they could have gave us maybe complimentary soft drink for every fine dinning meal or 5 drinks per Cruz then the rest you purchase. I loved Eric the voice from above the program director all his shows were fun and entertaining. The parties organized by stuff were super great problem they only last for an hour. Deck 13 buffet area was home to most cruises and would like to give blow to the stuff there at deck 13 because they are forever working, especially the pizza guy 24 hours pizza. Our cabin was in front so every wave the ship cut through we felt it, and you couldnt stand straight which resulted in sea sickness, so would advice you to book balcony center cabin. The excursions on the island were expensive hence did not do them. I hated the fact that we did not go to Pomene Island and they could not take us to a different island like Maputo instead of Portuguese Island which had nothing to see the second day and the waters were unclean to swim at them. Pomene has been giving them a problem why don't they start looking for an alternative to island or take it out on your markets because when I booked I saw two island and wanted to visit two not one island. The disembarking program failed them a bit, stuff was not properly assigned to guide people were they should go,whuch made things to go slower. The photo package is expensive and it would be nice if the price could go down or be included as our take home package because we got nothing as complementary everything you have to buy. Despite all the negatives would still go and advice people to go is an experience you don't want to miss. Read Less

This was my second time on MSC cruise. This time the embarkation was a disaster. But this could have been caused by the bad weather. It took more than 2 hours to board. My daughter was restless and tired. The ship sailed late and was driven very fast, I think this was to catch up the lost time, this unfortunately made some of us very sick. Which wasn't great at all. The food/buffet was much better than Sinfonia. Musica was much cleaner and beautiful. The service was great. The cabins were much bigger which was a bonus. The down site was there was a sewage stench. Maybe they had a drainage problem. But you could only smell it outside on the deck not inside. The kiddies club did a great job entertaining the kids & keeping them safe. My daughter had a great time, she was sad to go. Overall we had a great time and yes I will do this again in the near future. Read Less

It was our first cruise experience and we enjoyed it through out. We did not have enough time to even look all parts of the ship. Its huge. They have lots of entertainments to keep us busy. Rooms are very neat and compact, cleaning service is 100% perfect. Issues are resolved soon. Only suggestion is to have some difference in break fast, every day it was same menu repeated. We did easy on board, highly recommended, you dont have to wait for long. I would even prefer easy off boarding during disembarkation. Go earlier for breakfast, otherwise it is going to be crowded. We did not have chances to enjoy the lunch, we were busy with various other activities. You will have other food always like pizza, bread, salads etc. Food is not only provided at buffet area, there are other restaurants supply the same food during breakfast and lunch. Dining alone food menu is different between restaurant and buffet area. For fine dining, they say strict, but its actually not that strict, I have seen people dining in shorts. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and the price was reasonable. We cannot express in enough terms how disappointed we were with this ship. We purchased an Aurea pkg. which included: priority boarding (that did not happen, we were kept waiting on the docks in the sun for nearly 25 mins. Pkg. also included a 'solarium area' . This area was no different to any other area except that it was on a different deck and had no shade what so ever, uninviting we never used it. There is a policy that towels are not to be left for over 30 mins. on deck chairs, what a joke. Staff were afraid to say anything because of reprisal from the passengers. Pkg. also included sauna, steam room and gym. The sauna and steam rooms were often very cool or inoperable. Juices offered in the buffet area were like cordial, the food often cold and seating hard to find as people would sit around talking for ages after they had eaten. The other option was the dining room where it was difficult to get any ones attention to get served, it was chaos. It was quite obvious that the staff were all new and did not know what to do. Staff were observed coughing and sneezing into their hands then carrying on working. No wonder that there were many people with the flu on board. The quality of food in the evening dining was cafeteria style. Never again. The dining room staff in the evening were excellent as was the cabin steward. All this has been reported to the travel agent who reported to MSC line with one reply having an excuse for everything. Read Less

The braai on the Island did not have any proper meat, as per braai. I've been on four cruise thus far and this was the worst. No body was asked to put on life jackets from the ship to the island. South African staff working on the ship were quiet rude. The were hardly any crew members available for assistance. No real live entertainment on Deck as they usually do. We chose this cruise because it left from Durban, South Africa which allowed us to tick off a stay at Kruger National Park as well as a visit to Petra in Jordan. The cruise embarkation in Durban would have to have been the longest, most shambolic and most disorganised we have EVER experienced. The staff, apparently (or so we were told) were new. All we can say is that they hadn't been trained properly (if at all) or they were just inept. They were unfriendly, even to the point of being surly, they had NO idea what they were doing and didn't, really, even seem to care. The LIFE BOAT drill was a joke apart from showing the passengers how to put on their life vests the rest was a garbled, incomprehensible mess, delivered over the loudspeakers (and that's an overstatement, you could hardly hear them) At dinner the waiters were inefficient and had no idea how to serve. Bread was offered from a basket, and bad luck if you were the last served, you got whatever was left. White wine was just left on the table - you had to ask for an ice bucket. Water - you had to buy a bottle or go without, tea or coffee - again you had to buy it or go without. The food was poorly presented and poorly cooked - the choice was limited. The Maitre D was a rude and arrogant man who stood around doing nothing. Tender, at, mercifully the one port, was horrendous - the ship docked at 8.00am, we got off at 12.30pm. Laundry - in by 10.00am, promised for a return by 5.00pm the next day - more likely by 5.00pm 4 days later (and then, only after repeated complaints, to out cabin steward) The lecturers, consisted of just TWO people - a charming lady who talked about the various ports and a gentleman who talked about boats, ships etc. - he was very interesting but he had all the delivery skills of a wet lettuce. The ENTERTAINMENT in the theatre was good - although a lack of LIVE music or stage sets was rather disappointing as was the brevity around 30 minutes. The Cruise Director insisted on introducing each show in about 5 languages - she droned on and on and on The Captain - was a ghost, saw him once. The ship in general, was reasonable, although the pools were rather limited and there was no poolside dining options as with other ships. An oddity was that on the quite wide promenade deck - NOT one chair was to be seen, not one. The one good thing was their alcohol prices - the cheapest we've ever experienced. OMG - for me to EVER travel on MSC again - they'd have to be dirt cheap or be taken over by PRINCESS CRUISES. Read Less
