Too expensive for what it was, but it was a 3-day that worked with our schedule. My wife has a history of motion sickness so we wanted to evaluate her ability to handle a cruise (with the patch) without risking a whole week on a potential misadventure. Some things were very good: generally, the food was great. The burgers and fries at Guy's Burger Bar were excellent. The pizza was great but there was always a line, whether at 11 AM or 11 PM (supply wasn't keeping up with demand). The Chocolate Melting Cake in the dining room continues to be Carnival's deserved signature dessert. The Flick show was very impressive. One of the most enjoyable onboard shows I've seen, on ships of any size, on any cruise line. Harry Potter Trivia on the sea day was a true highlight. It was held in the main atrium and there were probably over 100 players (get there early!). Matthew, the comedy club manager, was the host. The questions were right on point and he kept the whole thing themed (even referring to the Ship-On-A-Stick winner's trophy as a portkey). Need to take some points off, though, for the following: Bars were understaffed and bartenders made virtually no effort to manage the queues... just had to try to catch somebody's eye and hope for the best. Adult pool was closed for 2/3 of the cruise. Nobody knew when it would reopen. It was eventually drained and re-filled, but never reopened. On a ship with just three small pools, having one out of commission for such a long time was frustrating. Deck 5 is the Promenade, and it's one of the few ways to move from bow to stern on one indoor level. It may be the only way, in fact. The smoker-friendly casino and casino bar are right in the middle of Deck 5, though, so any stroll along Deck 5 is going to include an extended stretch of cigarette smell. The promenade is also overtaken in the evenings by a number of photographers and backdrops, reducing the usable space by almost half. It gets pretty crowded. The late afternoon/early evening of the sea day was completely dead. There was almost nothing interesting scheduled from about 3 to about 7. This would have been a great time to drop in an additional trivia, at the very least. Trivial Pursuit was led by an unenthusiastic host who didn't know the rules and mispronounced critical words in several questions. Cruises are always fun, but this ship could be improved greatly by additional bar staff, at least doubling the production capacity of the pizzeria, fewer (or relocated) photography setups in the evenings, and the addition of a round or two of trivia in the afternoon on the sea day. We had a small window of time in which this cruise fit perfectly. Our 18 and 20 year old (young adult) children accompanied us. Separate cabins 7 AFT 12/28/17-12/31/17. We live in Florida and cruise often. We have been on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Norwegian. Also, Disney when the kids we younger and even 'The Big Red Boat'...This itinerary was only to Nassau as expected, but the weather was good and we know our way around and had a nice lunch and shopping. If you've never been a trip to the Atlantis is obligatory and enjoyable. We like the Chef's table for adventure in food; Carnival's baseline food quality great overall is heads and shoulders above others in similar and even higher classes of cruise lines. The accommodations are above adequate and the service is very good. We LOVE THE COMEDY!! 10 shows/3 nights... Jim Brick ROCKS! This is a starter ship for those that have never cruised or a quick trip for the that just want to getaway. A good value and a place to find fun and relaxation in a casual atmosphere. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the price and number of days to go to The Bahamas. Overall, the cruise was excellent! The service we received for all categories was top notch, the 2-tank dive excursion in Nassau was excellent, the food for the most part was great, and the atmosphere on the ship was great as well. Our room steward Camelo was top notch!! He even helped my tie my tie on formal night since I had forgotten how to do it! I only have 2 small complaints, and they are: 1. some areas of the ship tend to have a strong septic tank smell (which can be common on older cruise ships). 2. The drink package limits people to 15 drinks. As far as the second complaint, I can see where some people really need to have that limit when drinking liquor. However, for people who drink beer only, 15 drinks for an entire day really isn't that much. This is especially true if you take a nap in the middle of the day and basically reset yourself. The other cruise ships offer TRULY unlimited drink packages, so people like myself don't get caught up worrying if we are going to reach our limit towards the end of the night. I personally feel like Carnival needs to go the same route as the others in that category. As far as food goes, the highlights were Guy's Burger Joint, Pizza Pirate, Emile's on Lido deck, and Mongolian Wok (within Emile's). The main dining room was okay for formal night and had great service, but we like to have the convenience of grab-eat-and-go, like what you get at Guy's and Emile's. The pizza at the back of the ship was VERY good, and open 24 hours! Beware of lines after all of the other restaurants close though! We did not do the steakhouse option, but heard that the food and service is very good there. I would have liked to have tried the Blue Iguana, but we just never made it there to try the food. We purchased the Faster to the Fun package, so embarkation went very smooth. We also like having priority at the service desk like the Diamond and Platinum cruisers, which can tend to get very busy. It is very much worth it to purchase Faster to the Fun! We go to know some of the bartenders and would like to give a special shout out to Rustam, our favorite at the Versailles Pool Bar!! Read Less

This was an intro cruise for us, with the goal of finding out if we liked cruising as an activity and what features/activities we should look for in future cruises. On the positive side, boarding and disembarking processes were smooth, but not exactly as described in the material left in our cabin. Not an issue however. The crew was polite, well trained, helpful and fun. The balcony cabin has lots of storage space and was comfortable and fairly well insulated from hallway and nearby cabin noise, Dining room food was good, not deluxe (no lobsters which was ok with me as I don't care for them), but a good variety, well presented and reasonable meal sizes (no overflowing gigantic plates). We did find that the food was brought out from the kitchen faster than the servers could deliver it to the tables, so it wasn't as hot as it should have been but the servers cheerfully returned cold soups etc and the replacements were hot. On the negative side, the ship was noisy (what were so many kids doing out of school on Dec 10?), minimal adult entertainment if you weren't into playing games like The Marriage Game. The one singing and dancing show we tried to attend was so loud that I could only stay for less than 5 minutes and by 10 minutes all of our party had left. What I found most difficult was the extreme gluttony and the waste of food where people took several huge, overloaded plates of food and left a lot, and then we'd see them an hour or so later with big plates of burger and fries. No surprise that we saw so many size 20X and larger folk, often wearing spandex several sizes smaller. There could have been better signage. For example to get into the fitness room (no visible signage outside) you had to go through some of the spa rooms. I never actually found it. Read Less

We were in Orlando for a conference and thought to add a short cruise when it finished. We thought the entertainment on the ship was fantastic, with almost too many excellent options to choose from. We thought the ships decor was vary dated and guessed it was build in the late 70s or early 80s. Surprised to find out it was launched in 2005 and refitted in 2011. The wear and tear on the ship from use is very evident. We noted that there seemed to be something broken frequently throughout the ship. We treated ourselves to the balcony room. We thought the room was very spacious and could easily accommodate 4 guests. The beds were twin converted to queen/king and a pull out sofa. The sofa is vinyl which made it somewhat uncomfortable, but easy to clean. We found the shower annoying as the curtain did not stay within the shower lip, so there was frequently water all over the floor. We primarily ate in the dining room for dinner. The food was okay, with some port of call special each night. Guy's Burger Bar was a great option. We did not try the BBQ restaurant. Please note that it was not allergy friendly (my husband found it difficult to easily locate gluten free selections). The only food option after 10PM is the pizza place with two staff working and crazy long lines or 1 ice cream machine that may or may not have spoons, dishes or cones. I cannot say enough good things abouts the number of entertainment options. We loved the Dive-In Movie and Punchliner Comedy Club. We had a late dinner seating and always missed the stage show. There never seemed to be sufficient wait staff working to keep tables cleared and service stations maintained. The staff were friendly and tried their best. We did not do an excursion and just walked around port in Nassau. Next time I will either stay on the ship or book an excursion. The ship provided a safety warning not to leave the port area. The shopping in this area are all store the can be found anywhere. The "local" handicrafts all seem to be mass produced in China. We did the snokelling excursion on Princess Cay which was very nice and we thought excellent value for money. We would definately do this cruise again as a cheap and easy holiday. Read Less

We are mid-60s, active travelers. We have cruised only twice before - once on Norwegian and once on Windstar. We have loved cruising and wanted to try something shorter and cheaper for a quick trip. We decided to try Carnival out of Port Canaveral for a convenient December break. It was definitely a mixed bag for us. We wouldn't do Carnival again, but that's just because it didn't suit our style. There were plenty of good things about it. So, the good, the bad, and the ugly... The good... * the crew and staff couldn't have been nicer. They were the best thing about the cruise. Anything we needed we got quickly and with a smile. * embarkation and debarkation were pretty quick and efficient * we loved our aft extended balcony * the musical entertainment was a bit cheesy but fun, especially the rock show * enjoyed bingo * the small shops were nice, no high pressure sales * the buffet was surprisingly good - especially at breakfast * we really enjoyed Pirate Pizza and Guy Fieri's burgers - yum * our fellow passengers were a really diverse, fun mix of people - friendly and out to have a good time The bad... * lots and lots of smokers on the ship, and they dominated two of the areas I would have liked to frequent. The casino was always filled with smoke, so we couldn't stay long enough to even play roulette. I was looking forward to sitting on the deck and getting a little reading in but - again - all likely, comfortable areas were filled with smoke. * while the cabin had lots of storage and was efficiently arranged, the décor was really tired and looked like it wasn't really clean. Needed freshening and deep cleaning. * the décor on the whole ship looked tired - needs an update. * the layout of the ship was really confusing - chopped up, made getting from here to there really difficult sometimes. The ugly... * the food in the main dining room was atrocious. I was prepared for good cafeteria food. What I got was bad cafeteria food - or, actually, bad college cafeteria food. We tried it the first night - I had steak that tasted like it came out of a vat, mushy, unseasoned broccoli, and a baked potato that looked like it was left over from the night before and was cold into the bargain. We couldn't eat any of it - we left it and got pizza instead. Worst food I've had in years. Read Less

I love to go on cruises and wanted to book a 4 day getaway in December with my wife. I found this cruise and although I didn't love the itinerary- I said what the hell its a cruise. This ship is no different from the other Carnival ships, but after being on the Sunshine 3 out of the past 4 Carnival cruises I have been on and feeling that the last time the service and cleanliness both non-existent and terrible I was ready for a different ship. The ship was clean, staff was plentiful and friendly. I actually saw people cleaning the common areas everyday - a novelty on the Sunshine. The ship is in great shape and my wife and I personally love that class of ships. This ship is as good as the Fascination in terms of service but is a couple years ahead of it in its decor and overall usefulness. The smaller ships are the way to go - Do not second guess this ship - You will Love her! The stops were great because it was 85 degrees each day, so what could be bad about that. We did 2 excursions which were great. In Freeport we did the ship excursion Unimog tour (can see on their website). Was worth the money and time as we got back to ship at 1:00pm and relaxed the rest of the day. In Nassau we went to Balmoral breach (sandals) and did the ship exclusion swim with the dolphins which was on sale for $135. Also was a great experience and value for the money. Make sure to bring Money along as the picture packages run between $95-135 but come out amazing and a must have after to remember the moment. The one negative to the day was that the ferry didn't show up on time we did not have time to spend at the beach and enjoy the private island. Sea day was great as weather cooperated and the bar tenders had heavy hands pouring with tips being left. Dinning staff and Alchemy Bar staff are wonderful. Although we did not see Matre'di coming around our table at all - our waiter was amazing and got us all the special orders we needed to keep within our dietary requirements. The energy in dinning room was as good as we have seen it on a Carnival ship. There shows and entertainment are what you expect on Carnival. No broadway talent but still had a fun going to the shows and seeing the hairy chest contest. We purchased FTTF and were on the ship the first day and off the ship on the last day in great time. As first time cruisers we partially knew what to expect because of relatives experiences and advise. Embarkation went very smooth and we got on the ship without delay. Just seeing the size of the Liberty for the first time was impressive. Our first day was spent exploring the ship and finding out where everything we were interested in was located. Hint; If you want to get a lot of walking exercise take a cruise LOL. I don't know how many miles we put on throughout the cruise but by the time we got to our cabin at night we were bushed. There is certainly no lack of activities to keep you entertained and I would advise anyone to take advantage of as many as you can. The food was for the most part very good. The main dining rooms feature a different menu every night and the food and the service was excellent while the buffets tended to have semi cold food that was sometimes greasy as in the case of the bacon. The specialty restaurants on board were very good and in most cases free. The Seafood Shack was excellent what with lobster, clams, shrimp and fish on the menu at very affordable prices. There are certainly no shortage of bars on board and we enjoyed most of them. Our cabin was always impeccably clean and every day we were treated to some sort of a towel animal on our bed. Nice touch. Overall we had a wonderful time. Probably ate too much. Got a lot of exercise and met some great people. Read Less

This was our first cruise and were not impressed at all. The luggage handlers ripped my husbands carry on to the point the zipper was completely ripped out. They offered to replace a Tommy Hilfiger bag with a $20 carnival bag. Obviously we had to accept it because we needed a carry on for the plane. Then our excursion was canceled. ( I understand this happens, it was just a disappointment to have that notice waiting for us after the muster.) So we book a different excursion to one of their private islands. After keeping us waiting on the dock packed in like sardines with no way to get water to drink or to have use of the bathroom without loosing your spot in line and having to go through customs again for over an hour, we were told that the boat was having problems. We could get a refund if we chose not to wait but that they did not know when the boat was going to get there. When asked if we were going to make it back on time we were told that they could not guarantee we would be back on time. Being our first time cruising we weren't willing to take the chance. By the time everything got situated it was too late to book another excursion. The main dinning room was beautiful! I cannot say the same for the food!! It was so awful that we did not go back to the dinning room the rest of our trip. Thank goodness for the Guy's Burgers, it was the best food on the ship! The bar staff while nice, were completely understaffed. There was always a wait at the bar or to find a waiter. While talking with other guest who had been on other cruises, they assured us that is was just this ship. Several of them were actually making complaints over the service and other issues they had happen during the cruise. And strongly suggested trying a different ship before we let this trip ruin our opinions of cruising. On a positive note, our Cruise Director Donkey was awesome!! Very energetic, cheerful and entertaining. If he was going to be apart of something you knew it was going to be good. Also, Marcela at the service desk was amazing. I don't blame her for the cheap bag we got given t us as she was just doing what her boss told her to. She went out of her way to check on us during the rest of our stay. Lastly, I was told that we would get a survey after our cruise. I was looking forward to it so that they could hear about everything that had happened but we never received one. I'm not too sure why considering the fact we received all the other ones prior to our cruise. We will try it again but DEFINITELY on a different ship!! Read Less

We keep cruising with Carnival because they are the cheapest, which wasn't the case back in 1998 when we started using them with an Alaska cruise. Back then you were greeted with a large basket in the bathroom filled with goodies, soap, creams, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Robes were there for you, and on the bed there was always a welcome gift for the guests. Now we were down to a single bar of soap in the bathroom, no robes, and on the bed we find some gift since we are "VIP"s, on this trip was a bottle of water. Other cost cutting were easily seen on this cruise, one cabin servicing instead of two per day, the pizza was the thinnest EVER made (can't eat it using only one hand). Guy's hamburgers were still great since they are a brand name Carnival can not mess with. The "shows" are amateur hour, specially since most of the time they use passengers as the "stars" of the show. On this cruise fortunately they did use professionals on one of the shows. Tables took forever to clean on the Lido deck so you better get there right after they open. Unless you request an specific dinner time and get the same table every night, expect to have a long waiting time being served using the "any time" dinning. The "hot tubs" at the Serenity area are half of what they really need for such a large group of guests, make sure your cruise does not have many sea days, during those you might as well forget using them. The bright side of the cruise was the embarkation and debarkation, the fastest and easiest of any cruise we have had. Read Less
