My first ever cruise though my wife has been on several. The boat is dated and has obviously seen better days but this is more than compensated for by the extremely hard working staff who do their utmost to keep the cabins etc spotlessly clean. All the staff without exception were hard working courteous and conciencious in their duties. Food was plentiful and adequate as were the inclusive drinks. The ship is rapidly approaching the end of its commercial life after over 30 years in service but we will always have fond memories of our experience and the wonderful crew. Read Less

First of all to anyone thinking of going on this ship for the first time, if you have been on other bigger ships with other companies then you will probably think that this ship is not as good. However if you remember the price that you have paid fore this one compared to other companies then I think you will agree that it is well worth the money. My wife and I had an outside cabin (7054) on Deck 7 and yes it had obviously seen better days but it was kept spotless by our cabin steward Morrison who must changed the towels twice every day as well as making a different animal out of some of them every day. The food was better than we had had in some Thomson Gold hotels and there was something to eat literally 24 hours a day as well. The drinks were also perfectly fine....anyone who complains is obviously very picky indeed. I like my beer and my wine and the ones available on the inclusive list were very good....I preferred the red wine and my wife said the white was very good (and she IS particular about the wine she drinks). I am whisky drinker myself and as expected the malt whisky and major brands were to be paid for but I could fine nothing wrong with the blend they gave me form the all inclusive list and as for the gin and tonic and cocktails....they were as good as you will get anywhere. You can upgrade to "top shelf and premium drinks" but it is not necessary. We ate in the "paid for" restaurant one night to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was top class but again there is no need to do that as the meals in the restaurants were top quality anyway. We did not take any of the Thomson trips as in every port we docked in we could walk into the nearest town or resort but there were some good excursions available if you have already been to places like Rome, Pisa, Florence etc. As others have already mentioned this ship is going out of commission at the end of the season which is a shame as it is well loved by many of its regular cruisers.... we met a few who have been on it several times or even more...and its crew are the friendliest and most helpful that you will find anywhere, hopefully they will all get jobs on the new ship when it takes over. I am not a show person myself but I kept my wife company on several of the shows and I have to say I enjoyed every one...Ross the Host ans the 10 young people in the shows worked so hard to give all of us a good time. We did not sit around the pool at all as that is not our scene but it was well kept and busy every day....all the beds were well used and there was entertainment as well. In fact there was something for everyone....apart from moaners and really picky people who just love to complain. Try it if you can before it is too late. Read Less

Just returned from our first cruise on the Island Escapes and was pleasantly surprised. The boarding process was efficient and quick, our luggage arrived at our cabin within 1 hour of boarding. We had an outside cabin on deck 7 which was small but spotlessly clean with lots of hangers & storage, totally adequate. All the staff were very friendly, hard working and helpful. Restaurants were spotlessly clean, with an excellent selection of food to choose from. We used both the all inclusive restaurants but didn't use the Al a Carte restaurants as we were totally satisfied with the others. The all inclusive package was very good except that we thought that bottles of water and coffee outside of the dining rooms should have been included. The entertainment team were very talented and hard working and produced some fantastic shows. I have to mention in particular Ross the cruise director he was brilliant, funny and very talented. We haven't laughed so much for a long time. There were also outside acts brought on board in particular Andre ( comedian/Magician) who was also very good. It is hard sum up what a fantastic holiday we had in a few sentences but we would definitely do this again. We also met some lovely people on board, some of who we will keep in touch with. Lastly I would like to say a big thank you to all on Island Escapes for making our holiday so memorable. Read Less

Booked two weeks on this ship in June 2015 but had to leave after the first week due to the rotten state of our cabin, poor food and ‘non inclusive’ (all inclusive) package. Thompson sells this as an ‘All Inclusive’ package but in reality only the minimum is supplied and everything else had to be upgraded. The ship itself is very tired and dated and is due to be de-commissioned. Clearly the operators have decided not to invest it its final season and as a result we found lots of defects both in the cabin and public areas. Service on-board is friendly but the guest relations team unable to assist with the most basic inquiry. If you enjoy a ‘holiday camp’ type experience then I think you would be ok, however to the more discerning traveller it falls well below the standards of even 1 star accommodation for a basic cabin. The food is very bland and repetitive with the buffet options just being continuously re-cycled. The drinks included with the all inclusive package are limited. In fact the crew were unable to tell me what larger I was drinking (although they use ‘fosters’ pumps to try and give the impression it’s a branded drink). All in all I would give this company a big wide birth and opt to go with one of the more established cruise operators. Read Less

Really enjoyed my time on board the island escape. Have cruised 3 times before but only with Thomson, on the destiny, majesty and the dream. The flight from Manchester to Palma went smoothly and we were soon sat on the coach heading to the port. Boarding took longer than I remembered. Made our way to our cabin, an outside on deck 4. It was better than I expected, not as nice as the dream but similar to the destiny and majesty. We had 2 port hole windows which were clear. The cabin had 2 wardrobes, a dressing table with 5 drawers, a chair, a bedside table and another small table. There was an old fashioned tv with crackly reception and a hairdryer beside the dressing table which had good lighting. The bathroom was small, well lit with the usual tiny shower. Small shelves were behind a glass cupboard and we had plenty of room for our bits and pieces. Towels were white and soft. The cabin was kept immaculate throughout our stay and we had a towel decoration and a chocolate one night. The ship had plenty of bars including 2 outside on deck. I enjoyed the look out bar at the top of the ship whilst my husband liked the champions sports bar and casino. The show lounges were of reasonable size and comfortable. There was a coffee bar serving delicious lattes with views out to sea. We ate in 3 of the four dining options. The island restaurant and beachcomber seemed to serve the same food but in very different surroundings. One was like a restaurant, the other was canteen style. We paid to eat in the oasis restaurant, about 30 for 2. This was well worth the money and I'm sorry I didn't book to try the second of the 2 menus that they serve. If you fancy a late night snack, whether that be burger and chips, a salad, or a cup of tea and a biscuit, then this is served until 4am. Entertainment was very good. The cruise director leads by example and was a true performer. The show team seemed very popular but just not my thing. I did enjoy the guest artists, a fantastic motown/soul singer, a Dean Martin tribute and the comedian. The resident band and singers were all very good too. Staff, crew and our fellow passengers were all so friendly. Everyone seemed to want to stop and have a little chat. Our first port was ajaccio in Corsica. Lovely and easy to get around. We got on the little train which was good value. Next port was for Rome but we stayed on ship. Went on an excursion at the next port and took in the sights of romantic Florence and busy Pisa. Nice was nice and finally, Barcelona which was walking distance right to las ramblas. Had a lovely time and would recommend this friendly ship to anyone who is after good value for money. It's all inclusive as well. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Thomson and will be my last As soon as we got on the ship we wanted to get off and asked if there was any nearby hotels that we could get transferred to only to be told it would cost us another £1600 to move!!!!!! The ship Island escape I hear will be scrapped next year.... Should have been scrapped Last year. Our outside cabin was awful, dirty stained carpets, prehistoric shower-(even felt dirty after the shower) beds really small and hard (asked for a double but had two singles) air con didn't work, we had a temp gauge on our alarm clock that read 24 degrees, TV signal was very poor so not worth watching. Food in the Buffet and restaurant was ok but not much choice if you are a plain eater. The shows I couldn't comment because we couldn't see them, there was no stage so all on one level and if you were at the back no chance of seeing what was going on. Security on the ship was unbelievable, in Tangier Africa there was no security getting back on the ship so anyone could have walked on with a weapon ...Shocking!! also no scanning in several ports prior to boarding the ship ,as if the ship security couldn't be bothered. The ONLY good thing I can say about this ship is the Staff and the all inclusive drinks package was a bonus and kept flowing. If you have never been on a cruise ship before then you will be ok on this, if you HAVE cruised before with other cruise lines then I think you will be very disappointed. I have been on 20+ cruises before and this is by far the worst cruise ship (ferry) I have ever been on, I was counting down the days to get off........... I know the ship is old, but dirty stains on carpets, toilet seat, tiles falling off walls is not acceptable. Read Less

This was the 3rd cruise i've been on, however it was the first Thomson's Cruise. The other companies I have been with are Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises, both of which were more costly than this 'budget cruise'. To start off with the flights and embarkation were well organised and staff were very efficient. The ship looks big, however it is a nice size, there's plenty of space, yet you keep bumping into the same people which is nice. There are plenty of things onboard for all ages, including a couple of lounges, a 'pub', casino, swimming pool, spa, gym and of course 2 inclusive 'self-serve' restaurants. There is a wide range of food provided all day, with a different theme for each day, There is a 'posher' restaurant which serves delicious food with waiter service, for this there is an extra £15 cover charge per person, however I feel that this was worth it for the quality of food and the waiter service. The cabins are sufficient in size, I was in a twin cabin, the beds were comfy standard single beds, with a decent sized gap between. There was a desk with extra lighting and a hairdryer in the room. There were 2 wardrobes and one chest of draws, there were coat hangers inside the wardrobes. The entertainment on board was varied, hilarious, and of top quality. All the performances were well rehearsed by the talented show team. The quizzes and other entertainment for example game shows, talent shows, or simply just the staff making a fool of themselves, were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and were very well run. Credit to all the staff on board. The Captain was very informative throughout the cruise, letting you know the current sea conditions and the ship's progress. He also gave us all advise about each port of call. I cannot comment on any of the shore excursions as I did all the sightseeing independently as I find it much cheaper. However this is a personal choice, and people that I know who did use the shore excursions reported that they were well run and very good. I think that this was a fantastic cruise, with amazing staff on a beautiful ship. It will be a shame to see the MS Island Escape leave the Thomson fleet. I will hopefully be booking again before the end of the ship! I cannot fault this cruise at all. An absolutely amazing experience. Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise, having been on another Thomsons boat and on the Grand Princess. The boat may be old and on its way to the scrap heap soon but that didn't stop us from having an excellent cruise. The staff were so friendly and laid back but very proficient at their jobs. The cruise director Ross was so approachable...on my other cruises I got the impression they thought they were above everyone else. The entertainment was as good as you would get on any cruise liner...the singers and dancers were superb, especially Daniella who's operatic voice was amazing. The food was good...self service in both the restaurant and cafeteria but in the restaurant staff were on hand to show you to your table and were always there if you needed anything. Dress was informal but many dressed up in the evening. Now that the ship is all inclusive, my spending was at a minimal. Sorry to hear this ship is being decommissioned but I hope the crew get jobs on the new ship to take over from this one. Cabin was basic but then again didn't spend that much time in it. Brilliant holiday Read Less
