Boarded the ship in Palma on the 13th October, for what was its penultimate cruise. The ship left port at 23.00 and it was apparent it was a bit rough, leading to the first day at sea, being a nightmare, Both myself and partner had to get seasick pills, for the first time I have to say, normally ok in rough weather. After our first stop the weather calmed and the rest of the cruise was just as good as the first one. All the crew were fantastic and very helpful, from the top to the bottom. Cabins was perfect for our needs, and kept nice and clean thanks to Desmond our cabin cleaner. The food was brilliant, in all the resturants, and the staff were fantastic, very attentive and kept our tables clean and tidy, and replenished our drinks whenever necessary. On the ship were plenty of bars and room to move around freely, loads of seats and sunloungers and on decks that were kept clean and tidy always. On leaving the ship at the end of the cruise it was tinged with dismay to think that in a weeks time it will be moving to pastures new, to be decommissioned as a cruise liner, which is a pity as we had a wonderful two cruises aboard her. we set sail on the Tapas & Tagine cruise from Palma 6 October 2015. All the travel arrangements were well arranged by Thomsons. The ship itself is quite dated and does need updating but was always clean and tidy. The cabin (9500) was adequate and reasonably comfortable. The housekeeping staff did a fine job every day. The food was varied, well presented and tasty. We went to all 3 restaurants over the week. The Beachcomber is self service and is available all day. The island ? Restaurant requires you to be seated and given drinks by waiters but is still self service but you get table clothes etc. the third restaurant, for which you need to book and also pay an extra cover charges well worth it. The food is delicious and is all served by excellent waiters/waitresses who would do any restaurant proud. The Entertainment team, led by Ross, were fabulous. The Bounty lounge team were hilarious. So much fun. We went on a few trips arranged by Thomsons - alameda Gardens and cable car in Gibraltor. The only complaint is that we only has 5 minutes free time on the Rock to look around ourselves. Tetuoan in Tangiers was classed as an active trip but our guide was an old man who used (and needed) a walking stick. He then passed us over to a local guide who spoke English but was deaf. Not really ideal but we saw good scenery. Alhambra (from Almeria) was a good trip but once again there was no free time, we had to beg for 5 minutes to look in a shop to buy a souvenir. It is a shame that Island Escape cruises finish in a couple of weeks because we would definitely go on another cruise with them. Thank you Read Less

This was our second time on Island Escape as wanted to go again before her retirement . The weather wasn`t as kind to us this time and some ports were changed however this didn`t stop us enjoying ourselves. Ship was spotlessly clean like last time and our cabin was more than adequate .Food was plentiful and we also chose to dine at the Oasis restaurant for some fine dining. Drinks included we found to be perfectly fine and didn`t feel the need to upgrade. We are not into the Butlins style shows/entertainment but there are other bars and places to get away from that type of thing . We liked to have a little flutter then sit and listen to the music in the sundowners bar ,John on guitar was the highlight of our evenings . We will miss the island escape and her laid back appeal but will be trying the Spirit out next year. Read Less

This was our second cruise on Island Escape ,we wanted to spend another week aboard before her retirement. Food again adequate ,lots of choice and themed evenings also it was nice to dine at the Oasis for a change one evening. We found the inclusive drinks to our taste and didn't feel the need to upgrade . Although the ship is tired in places we found it clean and our cabin spotless . This time we weren't as fortunate with the weather and some itineraries were changed however this did not stop us enjoying ourselves and all the ports. We don't really like the ' butlins' style entertainment/activities and shows etc but there were plenty of places to get away from all of that . After dinner and a flutter or two we spent our evenings in Sundowners bar enjoying the very talented John on guitar. We will miss this laid back ship but have happy memories from our time onboard. Just got back from a 2 week cruise and stay, went on Island Escape as I enjoyed it so much last year and it is excellent value. I like others am sorry she is going out of service, but it appears the crew have a good chance of staying together on her replacement. I remember Ross Roberts from last year and thought he was good, but this time me and wife had chance to appreciate what a good all round entertainer he is, I also think he is hillariously funny and being camp suits this. I have no moans at all, although I am sad to see again others do nothing but knock the ship, wingeing over the stupidest of things, my advice to those who have done P&O, Cunard, Holland America etc, stay with them if you dont want to go on an informal cruise, (is quite simple). I met many who have done these lines but prefer to be informal, so that works both ways, similar to my review last year I say "champagne tastes lemonade pockets" for some, and as for comments about the ship smelling is ridiculous anyone who is honest will tell you the staff are forever ensuring the communial areas are clean, so well done Island Cruises and I hope the new replacement for 2016 continues to provided good crusing at economy prices Read Less

Cramped ship Lots of horrible people getting drunk, the public areas smelt of sick. The food was tasteless in the main restaurant The paying restaurant was good however and the ports were wonderful This is the first bad cruise we have been on The buffet style meals meant we had fewer chances to talk to fellow passengers as people were constantly on the move. I prefer a set menu with a chance to chat before courses with other passengers We have been on other cruises, this was the worse. I would be OK with this had the cruise been cheap, but for the same price we had two weeks on p&o last year with spending money which covered our drinks. P&o was better value and the people were pleasant. Likewise cruise and maritime and Thompson dream were also good Island escape was butlins on sea Didn't do any excursions as we planned our own trips Entertainment was mixed but spoiled by the awful passengers Read Less

I will try to be a constructive as i can as we enjoyed the concept of the cruise but NOT the Islands Escape Ship. Arriving at the port and going through all the boarding process is very easy and got to our cabin without a problem. We then went for a wonder and headed for the Beachcomber for a cold drink and a snack. I have to say it wasn't that bad but bear in mind that everything you eat from is plastic and people just wonder around in there swim wear with no shoes on. Don't look inside the cups as the stains will put you off. Not pleasant but hence the word informal, that's the Beachcomber. We then went to our cabin and unpacked our cases. Then it was off to Palma as we didn't sail until 23.00 and really didn't want to sit on the ship all day, especially as we had a day at sea on the Wednesday. We arrived back at around 19.00, had a shower and went to the Island Restaurant. We waited to be seated and went to explore the Buffet for our dinner. Please note you will be seated with others but we didn't find that a problem as the majority of people would chat and make everyone welcome. The food was good and plentiful and a lot of choice. Plates were also China and you had table cloths on your table and napkins. After dinner we went to the theatre to see the nightly show, sorry no choice on this cruise as it is a small ship, and the young guys and girls are good with the limited resources they have. The Theatre is all on one level and gets very busy and cannot hold everyone. So when full that is it i'm afraid. They serve you at your table, with your drinks, so a pleasant hour was had. The shows vary and you will enjoy it i am sure. One bloke who did get on our nerves and that is the so called Entertainment Director. My god does he love himself and loves to remind everyone that he is gay. He really needs to get into the 21st century, people are not bother if people are gay anymore! I then went to the casino and had a little flutter and we went back to the cabin at around midnight. The next day was at sea and we were awoken at around 06:00 by people on deck 10 moving their sun beds into position. Sad or what? When we finished breakfast, Island restaurant, we went back to change and went up on deck about 10.30 to grab a sun bed. NO CHANCE! they had all gone and if there was no one on them, then their towels were. We went and sat on some hard chairs, on the Beachcomber Bar, and chilled and was now looking forward to out first port of call, Corsica. Then we went back and sat on our balcony as the sun stayed there until sunset which was great. We ate in the Oasis restaurant a few times and enjoyed the fine dining experience, although you pay extra for it, it was great to be waited on. £14.99 per head but worth every penny. I wont go into the ports as we done our own thing and had a fantastic time visiting different places. Those memories will stay with us, for all the right reason, but the Island Escape took the edge off the cruising experience. We are going to do another cruise but next time will ensure we do our homework, not be hoodwinked by Thomson's, and pick a better cruise ship. Pros: You will visit some great countries and meet some great people. Cons: The ship is old and very tired and although the staff are excellent, some have been told there contracts will not be extended so are very down in the dumps. Do not expect luxuries and you will be fine. Take your break, enjoy the sights and don't think too muck about the ship. Read Less

Let me start by saying we had a fabulous holiday around the med on this ship and I'm sad to see it go. This ship has had its fair share of bad reviews however as a first time cruiser I have nothing more to compare it with other than the time I had onboard. Yes with the age of the ship it was a little dated but it certainly exceeded my expectations. Embarkation was swift and so well organised we quickly were given key card to our cabin and everything was ready for us to settle in. The cabin was 7550 on deck 7. It had 2 twin beds and a fold down bunk which was not needed, a picture window, It had lots of hanging space and drawer space and space under the bed to put suitcases. Believe me I took a lot of clothing and there was more than enough room for what we needed. The bathroom again was small but perfectly adequate with shower sink and toilet with toiletries. Satpal our cabin steward deserves a special mention. He was a most efficient cabin steward who kept our cabin extremely clean and tidy and basically looked after our room for the 2 weeks we were aboard. I loved the towel art he added as finishing touches and he was so happy and polite. Let's move forward to the dining areas. Dining was buffet style unless you booked a la carte at an additional charge. It was help yourself style and for what I paid for the holiday I most certainly can't grumble about the standard and choice of food. There was carvery meat and veg on every night and many different alternatives. Choices of starters and desserts too? The waiters again were extremely helpful and Midy and Ronny deserve a medal for looking after us. They looked after us so well it made our mealtimes very special. Drinks on board were all inclusive unless you ordered cocktails, branded drinks and speciality coffees fro the cafe. The unbranded drinks were excellent and the supplement cocktails were at very reasonable suplpliments we tried the hot stone a la carte and found it a great experience. Next to mention was the entertainment. Ross the entertainment director has a very special team of entertainers. Including Ross they are all extremely talented and provide entertainment as good as the west end. I can say this as I've been to watch many shows in the west end and I found the musical showson ship as impressive. The other entertainment was from a very young team and I can't say enough how talented this young team was. As for Ross he was fantastic (and doesn't do the amount of work for a chuffing 0/10 and quite rightly too) it certainly wasn't Benidorm at sea as one review described it. We did many excursions and I thought were organised extremely well and I thoroughly enjoyed them even though I walked my socks off. However I didn't go on a cruise to spend my time on the ship when there was so much to see. Finally all people I spoke to had a fabulous time and were pleased, they booked it. There were many planning to cruise again with thomsons in the future because of the experience. Hopefully this review will set those peoples mind at rest for the four weeks of travel this ship has left. Read Less

this is our 4th time on this ship as we wanted one last time before it went into dry dock. The ship is old & tired but what a great place to meet people. As always the food was excellent & the staff too. It's a shame it was all inclusive as we did not get our monies worth as we don't drink that much but the drinks we had were good. Our cabin 9514 which I chose was very disappointing very small compared to the cabin we had last time on deck 9 beds were comfy & I wanted to take the pillows home with me. Altogether though we had a brilliant time and we will miss The Island Escape very much. Well done to all staff. Read Less

We arrived at Palma on 1st Sept 2015 transfers to ship was well organised and efficient. Cabin was small but sufficient steward service was vey good. Koko even repaired a little alarm clock we thought was broken and put back in cabin for us (excellent service). Entertainment crew were brilliant all shows by them were great and the rest of team were fun and friendly doing all bingo quizzes games etc. 2 of our trips were cancelled which was disappointing and the Soller Train in Palma - it would have been nice to have been given information of how to do this on our own instead of having the other trips pushed at us. We found out this was an option from other passengers later. Also we thought the trips were very expensive £38-£42 just for a coach ride to Rome/Florence not good. Unfortunately we had a flood in cabin near end of 1st week due to rough seas, again staff were helpful but no spare cabins except front of ship where it sounded like a cannon was going off with water hitting front of ship!! We remained in wet cabin for night and next day till we could be moved when back in Palma. Compensation was adequate but an upgrade for inconvenience would have been preferred. Food was excellent but didn't appreciate having to pay for ice cream, when stopped in all inclusive hotels this has always been included. Although it was described as a casual cruise an odd night for dressing up would have been nice even if only when going to paying restaurants. Big problem with lifts mid-ship as the biggest was out of order for nearly all cruise - not good with all old and many people bad on their feet. Was told this was out of action last season as well! Also lack of sunbeds caused problems on day at sea each week many people were wandering round looking for them and sitting lying where they really shouldn't have been even in front of showers by pool etc. There was a supposed rule about leaving your sunbed for longer than 45 minutes and towel would be removed, we told a member of staff one had been left for over 2 hours and was told "well you don't need it"!!!
