Embarcation - slower than past cruises due to extra sanitizing efforts on the ship before we could board. Overall, not too bad. Dining - we dined in the main cabin most evenings. My husband didn't care for some of the meals while I found the food good but not great. OK, the desserts were great. The windjammer didn't seem to have as much selection as on past cruises but the food was good as long as you could get back to your table before everything got cold. As much as I hate having to pay extra at a specialty restaurant to get a really good meal we both loved Sabor. Don't be fooled by the fact that they only serve tacos; the food and service were outstanding. Service - as on past cruises the service all around was great. Mystery Dinner - this was held the first night of the cruise (wish they would have let us know before we boarded since it we were a little rushed getting ready). The whole event was a lot of fun. It was a great chance to meet some of our fellow guests and interact with some of the singers and dancers who made up the cast of the mystery. Highly recommend it. Shore excursions - we took 3 excursions arranged through RC. The excursions themselves were fine and the tour operators were great. Our only gripe was the communication on the pier in St. Kitts while we were waiting for the Rail and Sail (which ended up being lots of fun). We got into port late due to a detour around bad weather which affected the departure times of many of the tours. Unfortunately, this was not communicated in a timely manner, to those of us waiting on the pier, leaving a lot of people confused about what was going on. It all worked out eventually but could have been handled much better,. Labadee, Haiti - we went looking for a quiet place to sit on the beach for awhile and ended up way down past the Town Center, walking through the rows of local vendors. I would have enjoyed doing some browsing and probably buying as well but being continually yelled at, although in a friendly manner, really put us off. We waited for the tram for the return trip just to avoid this. We heard several other quests voice the same sentiments. I find Labadee an uncomfortable port to visit. You're not really seeing Haiti itself but are put in a position of feeling guilty for not supporting the local economy in a situation where many people feel may feel harassed. I guess we aren't really beach people at heart so it seemed more hassle than relaxing. Lots of other people seemed to be having a great time. Entertainment - the main theater shows were great. Laughed so hard at the hypnotist show I cried. Read Less

We choose this cruise as I have been on the Freedom class but the last cruise for my husband and I was on the Oasis. I wanted him to experience the Freedom class. We always enjoy Fort Lauderdale and stay at Bahia Mar for the convenience of walking the beach and exploring with the Water Taxi! Once arriving at the Port, it appeared the line was moving well and then suddenly, the line stopped and we waited almost an hour to check in....never figured out what happened! The ship was a great experience. I believe I picked a great area for our room, mid ship, 8th deck. Our biggest complaint was the bedding, after 2 days, we both had back aches! Our room attendant attempted to improve it without much success! Our waitress (Maria) in the MDR was VERY good! She was thoughtful and allowed us to have adequate time between our courses. After about day 3, we tired of the MDR food. Not much selection and tried to eat the last formal night and the prime rib was not very good and the lobster tail was tough and cold! We ate at Chops 2 evenings and the food and service was excellent! Our favorite port was Labadee, we zip lined (a new experience for both of us)!! Fabulous!! We loved the island! We have recommended the itinerary to our 2 adult children and spouses! Would go again in a heartbeat! Read Less

My husband and I had a wonderful trip aboard the Freedom of the Seas. The staff members were wonderful, the main dining experience was exceptional, thanks to Reynante and Kevin! They are the standard by which others should be judged, exceptional. The ports of call were newly readded from hurricane damage but the overall experience was exceptional. We witnessed damage on some of the islands but that is to be expected from such a catastrophic event. The ports and the excursions were very safe and aesthetically pleasing. We prefer Royal Caribbean for our cruising vacations. Our shore excursions were enjoyable and the islands were simply beautiful. So I will tell you that the artisans in Hati were very "assertive" if not borderline aggressive. They tried to trick us into taking merchandise that we did not want or pay for. I have heard stories that they will then accuse you of stealing, so be on guard. Several times they tried to give my husband a bag, stating I had purchased the items when he could see me at another area, so be warned! But the Dragon's Breath zip line is worth the trip!! Read Less

My first cruise, my wife's second. My wife requested wheelchair assistance. The experience of getting off the ship in Fort Lauderdale was a nightmare. Very disorganized and passengers had a lot of tension because of the turmoil,us included. The ship's staff was very concerned with cleanliness. We were impressed to see hand sanitizer stations wherever we went. Our porter did an excellent job, we were very satisfied with his attitude and work. Our waiter Andrew Dimanahan in the main dining room did an excellent job. We could not have asked for a more concerned waiter. He answered all our questions to our satisfaction. Very knowledgeable and courteous. Great job. Our breakfast waiter (Kresimir Geto) was very nice to us. He was very personable and he too gave us answers to our questions. We learned a lot about the ship and the places that were on our cruise. All-in-all the ship's staff was very helpful. We really did enjoy our cruise with Royal Caribbean. Except we ate too much........ Thanks Read Less

Embarkation was very fast. We had received notification that the boarding was to begin a little later due to cleaning because of Norovirus. The ship is beautiful! We went directly to our cabin. Grand Suite. It was beautiful! That evening we had dinner with Mystery Theater, dinner was amazing, the filet was delicious!!! Dinner was at (Giovanni's Table). Dinner in the Main Dining Room was fair. The Head Waiter Monica was absolutely on top of everything. She was visible during every dinner. Or Asst. Waitress was Nina also amazing.. I can not say enough about the service and how wonderful it was in the Dining Room. The food I am sad to say was not. I personally sent dinner back one night and got another entrée because it just didn't taste good. I hate complaining.. Breakfast in Chops in the morning was alright. I had sailed on Freedom before so the Entertainment was fine.( not once did anyone ask if we would like a drink.(if you wanted one you had to wait at the bar) Solarium was clean with plenty of chairs, (we did see a lot of chair hogs). Not once did anyone come and ask us if we would like a drink.. (we went to the bar to get our own) Not many servers on the deck. (Overall there are not many waiters anywhere) We booked the rail and sail on St Kitts.. the rail was awful, it was long with fumes blowing in our face. drinks were very strong but not tasty. , the catamaran was great. The yacht was booked for Labadee we spent the morning at the beach then took the yacht, it was amazing! San Juan was great, we walked around Old San Juan and got back on the ship. St. Marteen was so sad. We walked around a bit and shopped but many people were begging and asking for you to enter their stores. We did purchase things but we were uncomfortable and just bought and left. They are working on rebuilding . It was always my favorite island! Public Rest Rooms on the island were not maintained and they have a way to go. Overall The food was not great. I also noticed there many electric scooters.I have never sailed this early in January and was surprised on how many elderly people were on this cruise. Over all the trip was alright. Freedom was my favorite ship! Read Less

This was a Mother/Daughter cruise my friend chose & it was relaxing & fun. I would cruise with Royal Caribbean again. The Freedom of the Seas was a clean and well organized ship with many fun things to do and good amenities. There was always something to do or see & games to play. The staff was amazing, so friendly and everyone seemed to really enjoy their jobs. I always looked forward to returning to my room to read the next days events & such and also to see what towel animal was waiting for me on my bed. I would highly recommend a cabin with a balcony. It was nice to be able to see the weather & I found it relaxing to get away from the hustle to sit on my balcony & just watch the water flow by. The ports we visited were nice, beautiful & lots offered to do although I would have enjoyed more time in San Juan. It was rushed and way too short on time there. The food on the ship was good but not great but the entertainment was fantastic! Read Less

Reviewer: Married couple, 70, traveling with entire extended family. We have over 450 sea days on 12 lines. Enjoyed our RCL cruise 4 years ago. Pros: The activities for kids (when open) were greatly enjoyed. Cons: Value for the dollar was the worst in our extensive experience. Food was just plain unacceptable. No restaurant would stay in business with this level of food and delivery. Common space was half what is needed to handle over 4000 passengers. Bottom line: This was objectively the worst of our 35 cruises. Ship: Well maintained. I has a hard working and well trained staff that are stretched to the limit. The ship would work well for about 3000 or less passengers. Stateroom: The staff cleaned and maintained the room as efficiently and nicely as any ship we have been on. The rooms, and particularly the bathroom, are very small at the balcony level. Entertainment: Actually they had very little evening entertainment. Several performances by their resident entertainers. One by a guest that was pretty good and several movies. The lounge entertainment was scanty and hard to enjoy because the bars/lounges are basically also the hallways with 4500 passengers milling back and forth. Dining: No dress codes at all in main dining room even on formal nights. Well, you probably could not have gone nude, but that was the only option not tested. They have 3 floors on 2 sides to the main dining rooms. They could put well dressed passengers on one, long pants on one, and the bathing suit group on the other. Nope! Food: The absolute worst of any line we have been on. I had my whole family on board and all my sons all commented that Carnival had much better food in all venues. Embarkation: An e-mail the day before notified us that as Diamond Club Members we could "express" board 1:30. We arrive a little before that and by 3:30 we were boarding. I think they finally got everyone on board. Certainly everyone that would fit. My wife and I are Diamond Members which entitled us to many free venues including a nice private, free bar with good brand name liquors. That was because of our loyalty level on Azamara. That was definitely a plus, but you would have to go through dozens of cruises to get to this level on RCL. We gave this a 2 rating, but if we had ever given another line a 2, this would be a 1 level. Read Less

Food was of poor quality, lobster on formal night was so small that waiter was not able to remove it from the shell!!!!! Princess gives free internet to loyal cruisers and Royal charges 15.99 per day!!!! Princess also appreciates veterans and gives $100 on board credit to all vets for 7 day cruises and $250 for cruises of 14 days or more!!! Many menu choices were of foreign foods that could not even be pronounced!! There were two comedians, neither of which were funny!!!! The best thing about the cruise was the cruise director. I have been on 68 cruises on most of the cruise lines and he was the best cruise director of them all. Also concerning the food, when the Windjammer was closed, there was no ice tea or lemonade to be had. The pizza was the worst of any ship that I have been on and there was only water to wash it down with. Read Less
