This cruise was HORRIBLE. Friday we get an email saying no stop over in Mazatlán. We purchased a cruise for 7day, 3 port adventure. We only stopped in 1 port and was held over night due to maintaince that needed to be done. Of course on our time. which should have been done when no passengers were on board. Carpeting being done in the stairways, dangerous to all. SMELL was aweful through out , I guess due to plumbing. They knew this before we left California, unreal. We were taking friends for their first cruise. They upgraded their cabin, toilet stopped working for 3 days, They paid a lot of money to upgrade! Captain anounces that we will not be stopping in next port. Due to maintance issues taking so long. People were very upset, we even signed a petition! Totally unacceptable on NCL, we want a refund!!! Food was cold and flavorless, $5.00 for a bottle of water? REALLY???? Chinese resturant was food out of a box. NASTY! Only good food was the BBQ in the pool area, but couldn't find a seat. Service was sad, bartender in Java bar told me to go get a Pina Colada at another bar, he was out. We had to go to the bar to get drinks. Small wait staff? Entertainment, comedian was good. Otherwise same thing every night. Couldn't go on a shore excursion, couldn't get to shore. Never again! We were celebrating our 32 anniversary, Read Less

Was my 2nd NCL cruise and 5th overall and first with our kids 6 and 8. As you see from the others on the same cruise, this was one that was not as planned by NCL well. Got the email about missing 1 port before we left. On the first night on the boat I noticed on the TV channel it showed us going back towards LA which I found odd but come to find out it was the engine room fire/smoke issue. I do not fault them for that as I would rather have been back in port that left out to sea with an issue such as this. The communication as we got to PV was lacking to say the least. We knew we had 2 days but was told the 2nd day we needed to be back on the ship by 2 30 PM. Then around 10 pm they announce a delay and say it will be 5 pm to get back. If we would've know that we could've plan a more intense adventure. We did not leave till almost 1 a.m. that night and knew than there was no way to get to Cabo with any time to due much with the tenders that you have to do there. We weren't told til about 9 or 10 a.m. the next day that we were infact going straight back to LA without stopping. This needed to be communicated better and felt bad for the staff as people were getting irate with them and they have no control. We work in the hospitality industry so really felt for them. IDK if we will cruise with NCL again as the ship was older which we knew, but the kids started getting cabin fever by the 5th day with not much new to do. The shows were OK and he food is what you expect nothing too great but kept you full. Kids club was good for the kids and us too but they were kinda overwhelmed also. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a short getaway from LA and it was cheap.(you get what your pay for!!) We had a balcony room which was very small. Right from the beginning, we got a bad impression. We had to check in on the second floor of the Vancouver terminal. It was a long walk to the second floor. Once we got there, we checked in and were instructed to go back down stairs to board the ship. That walk was even longer, even after we went through the security. It was like walking through a maze to board the ship. When we got on board and to the room, I had to set up my C-PAP. Usually, on other lines, you call down for an extension cord and a steward brings it up and tapes it down for you. I called and was told that I had to come down and check it out. If I didn't bring it back, I would be charged. Ouch! What happened to service?. The guest relations line was extremely long and I got angrier and angrier as the afternoon went on. A man came up to me while in line and asked how everything was going? He was the "Hotel Manager", so I told him about the CPAP problem and the extension cord for which I was standing in this LONG line. He laughed and moved on to the next guy.( by the way, no one ever taped it down). I think we saw our cabin boy maybe 4 times at the most. We we charged a mandatory service fee per person, per day. -- Okay, we understood this but when we went to order breakfast in bed the next morning, we discovered an additional charge of $7.95 CONVENIENCE fee if it was delivered to our room. We have NEVER been charged on any other cruise line for having breakfast in our room!! Outrageous. They nickel and dime you to death. On the positive side, the food in the specialty restaurants was very good as well as the buffet. Also, as part of our package, we had 250 minutes of free wifi. Bottom line: If Norwegian offered us a FREE cruise, I would tell them to give it to someone else. No more for us. Read Less

NEVER AGAIN!...This is the title of my review. Yes, after being Silver member of Norwegian Cruise line (using this cruise line many times for different destinations) - this cruise to Alaska with NCL will be my LAST cruise with them. And here is why. I wouldn't complain about the bed size in cabin (very small SINGLE beds) but I'll start with FOOD in restaurants. As you already familiar, cruise line has many restaurants, starting with 'specialty' restaurants where you can PAY an additional money for the quality of the food...but guess what NCL Jewel decide to do? Yes, they decided to use 'PAY extra' for food in main restaurants where food in the menu should be complimentary, without any charge! I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw $24.99 charges (plus 18% gratuity) applied for few dishes in main restaurant...for Surf and Turf item and Beef Steaks...!!! So, I called the restaurant manager and asked why would these items be included in Main restaurants at all? What is the reason to add 'La Carte' charges in complimentary restaurants? And explanation was: 'we have new management and it's our new policy, so called 'pilot' to see if people likes it'. What to be like about? If I want to pay extra for my food then I would choose the specialty restaurant not the main/complimentary restaurant...I absolutely don't need to see these charges and be intimidated with these additional charges options, in my opinion! Or maybe NCL think that if my stomach is hungry then my brain will not be able to think and I'll pay extra?!!!!!...hahahaha...right... NCL has been bought by Oceania cruise line year ago and quality of the food on NCL went down drastically, from salty soups to uneatable meat (try to cut your beef and duck and you'll see what I mean!). I saw/hear a lot of people complaining about, saying that they never been seeing such a low quality of food!...Now, let's talk about something else...like TOILET PAPER (because after such food I can guarantee you that your next stop will be toilet:). Oh these TOILET PAPER!!!! Let me tell you, my friends, forget about nice outfit in your luggage. Net time you're traveling with NCL - bring your nice toilet paper instead!:)...NCL provides not toilet paper but some kind of quality of paper which cannot be used for your nose when you'll sneeze!...And it's not the laughing matter...I truly want to send the roll of such toilet paper to CEO of NCL...I would pack it nicely, with red bow and send with the special delivery to CEO's wife...but, unfortunately, customer desk would not give me NCL CEO home address!...oh well, maybe someone will read this review and will NOT use NCL for their next cruise. This will be my 'pay back'...because for me, NCL is NEVER AGAIN, for sure!!!! Read Less

The main problem with sailing on this ship is communication. Most of the staff could not understand English and if the questions asked of them where outside the parameters of their spiel they just looked at you with a dumb look and said nothing. We didn't travel with children, thank goodness The ultimate beverage package is a joke and trying to change it to something that suited my friend and I was yet another unfortunate attempt at getting our point across, due to the fact the person on the Customer Service (ha ha) desk was from an eastern European country and she just kept repeating the same thing to us. To leave the ship for and excursion was yet another experience of confusion as the person they had doing it was very hard to understand. Food was a bit sloppy and sometimes tasteless. I think that people who enjoyed their time of the ship were those who were drunk and didn't really know what was going on. I've read a review from someone that had a penthouse suite and special attention from their own concierge. No wonder they had a good time. NEVER again on NCL and I will be telling my friend not to go with them as well. My on board experience was OK but most of the other passengers were quite rude and loud....especially around the buffet areas. Trying to get a tea bag of just black tea was sometimes impossible as there was every flavour of Lipton's tea plus decaffinated tea but getting just plain black tea was an exhausting experience as most of the staff didn't know anything about tea and they worked in a food section of the ship. The family chose this line. I had heard that they were not a very good line. The staff and the balcony room were nice but it ends there. The food was below average even when you paid extra. The officers were not friendly and the tours were over priced. I use Viatour tours and the family use the boats tour company. They wished they had use my tour company. They cancelled one stop to return to port for repairs. They informed us 2 days before sailing. Repairs are scheduled months in advance. Gave us a $100 credit per person. Never Sail On Norwegian Cruise Line. I have sailed on many cruise lines - this is the worst of all of them. 90% are very good and worth the price. First timers do not what is great and what is not. The ports were very nice and it was easy to escape the boat and return aboard. Have you ever eaten I an Asian restaurant that did not have Chinese mustardand got mad when you asked why they did not? Norwegian Jewel the worst ship I have been on and I consider Norwegian Cruise Liner with fraudental advertising. I was on a 7 night Alaskan Cruise. We were to dock at 3 Alaskan port and also at Vancouver BC. Two days before sailing; Norwegian Cruise send an email stating they were cancelling Skagway Port stop due to ship repair. Norwegian Cruise line reimbursed US$ 267 for the port cancellation. It makes no sense to me. By cancelling Skagway, they cancelled 1/3 of the vacation. The stop at BC Vancouver is so close to Seattle that it could be cost effective to travel without the cruise ship. We visited only 2 ports in Alaska. We were docked at Seattle port for two nights. Beside the cancellation, the ship was dirty. The hallway smelled of feces. All shows were sub standard with amateur actors. The buffet food was terrible with exception for breakfast. I will never recommend this cruise line. Norwegian Cruise Liner makes cruising a nightmare instead of a vacation. Read Less

Do NOT book a cruise through Norwegian. We have cruised several times through various cruise lines and they have the worst customer service we have ever experienced. They canceled our port in Skagway and only let us know two days before sailing. Not only did they cancel our port, but they brought us back to Seattle a day early. They were only going to offer each stateroom $100.00 of onboard credit as compensation until everyone called and complained, so they finally gave in and gave us one full day of compensation. I understand they have the right to change the itinerary and understand circumstances arise that are out of their control...however, this was scheduled maintenance and completely in their control. One of the guest services managers even admitted to us that they had known about this maintenance for over 3 weeks and just picked our cruise to complete it. They purposely waited knowing that no one could cancel their cruise the day before. How can you treat customers that way and expect them not to be upset? On top of this, we booked an excursion in Seattle the day we came back at 10am. They told us we would dock at 8am, and figured 2 hours would give us plenty of time. They didn't communicate to their customers that everyone had to go through customs first and that they were going to do it by each deck. We had to argue with them to let us off the ship so we didn't miss our excursion. They also didn't tell people that everyone had to go through customs, even if you weren't leaving the ship, which meant they were having to wake people up and get them out of bed. Needless to say, there were a lot of unhappy campers. We've heard this is definitely not the first time Norwegian has treated their customers this way, and we wished we would have received a warning before booking...so please take our warning! Everything was never their fault and they honestly were just complete jerks about the whole situation. We had a similar experience on another cruise line and while upsetting to have a canceled port, they did everything they could to make it right. Not Norwegian, they were extremely rude and clearly do not value their customers. Also, side note, they have small cabins, and tall people beware, you will not be able to use the restroom correctly if you have long legs. Most people who were tall complained about having to sit sideways to fit. Some positives are the food was very tasty and the nightly entertainment was great. The ship is newer and doesn't have a lot of wear which is nice. Again, steer clear of Norwegian...we cannot wait to book another cruise with another cruise line to get the bad taste out that this one left us with... Read Less

The refunded a day of our cruse ,but only in ship board credit . They were not strike on people smoking they had a smoking room it smelled at least 50 feet away the door. The casino smoke was overwhelming it was impossible to get away from . My room was not vacuumed I dropped a earring and went under the bed for it and there were enough dust bunnies to start a farm . I wanted to make my wife's 50th birthday something she would remember! Well, thanks to NCL, it will be memorable....but not in a good way. 2 Days prior to sailing I receive a call from my travel agent informing me that Skagway was canceled because NCL decided to do maintenance on the propulsion system on the single most expensive sailing of the season. ( Yes I could have picked a less expensive sailing...but again...it fell on my wife's birthday.) I was informed that we were going to get a $100/cabin on board credit...after spending almost $5000 on the cruise. Needless to say I was a tad bit miffed. I called NCL and was politely told to pound sand. I then called the Executive offices...and again, in a much more friendly way told to go "F" myself cuz they werent doing anything for us. I should be happy with the $100 on board credit. Apparently enough people called and they finally refunded one day of the cruise. It sounds nice, but it was still a win for NCL and bolsters their profits. (a mere $78.6 million in 1st quarter 2016 profits) On to the cruise....really a disappointment: My cruise experience was less than favorable. The main sticking point was the staff...from the cruise director to the bar tenders. Don't get me wrong, some of them were great...my room guy was fantastic. I even tipped him above the pre-paid gratuity. One of the waiters in the martini bar was amazing...tipped him too! The ones that irritated me....rather infuriated me was your Cruise Director, Archie. He seems a nice enough guy, but is it really appropriate to joke about the fact we had our itinerary changed and we wouldn't be going to Skagway? I know he was kidding, but more than just myself found this to be in really poor taste and completely unprofessional. Never the less, really hit a sore spot and kinda put me in a rotten state of mind the rest f the cruise. If that wasn't enough, the bar staff needs to lighten up when someone says a drink isn't correct. I asked to have my drink re-poured because it was kinda nasty. He snatched the glass from me....huffed away, grabbed the bottles that were required and poured in front of me...pushed the glass across the bar and in a rather terse tone asked, "will this do, SIR?" The other issue was the lack of activities on the ship. Since we spent more time at sea than we did in port, it would have been a grand idea to have stuff available for the passengers. On the way back, the bars closed...the gift shop closed and the casino closed. The only thing to do was pay $20 to play bingo which is a totally controlled game since you can dictate the outcome because the cards are pre determined to what one wins and you can dictate the winning card based on the pot. The food on board was OK. It was presented nicely but really lacked any flair. The taste was really blah. No offense, I have had better food at Denney's. I had a NY Strip the 1st night that I ordered Med. It came out cold...well past well done and dry and lacked flavor. My friend also ordered the same....we both sent them back. Anyway, Not a positive experience to say the least. The compensation offered was a kind gesture but truly overall, doesn't account for all the shortcomings. Unless NCL where to have some absolutely amazing offer, I cannot say I'll ever choose NCL as a choice and would not refer a friend. The way we were treated was less than acceptable. There you have it fellow cruisers....you've been warned. Read Less
