We were boarded late onto our ship because the ship was being cleaned as it had norvo virus from the last cruise. I personally would have liked prior notive before we left the Uk as spending 7 days with a load of sick people does not appeal to me at all. However once boarded the ship looked nice. Our cabin was great. Kids club for the 5 year old again great. 13 year old wouldnt even look at his club so i can't comment on that. Food was an issue straight away. Due the the virus we had to be served everything - we were not allowed to touch anything and this caused BIG lines at peak times - like when everyone wants to eat. Also we had to keep using hand santitisors as meal times and my hands got really sore. My kids have eczema and their hands were cracking by day 3 - the 5 year old was forever touching things - hand rails, lift buttons and we were totally paranoid he would catch the bug as several people down our corridor had the virus. the first port was Princess Cayes and it was nice but just a beach. The tender boat taking us to the island however broke down and wasted an hour of our time and the food on the island was poor (a free BBQ). The sea was rough traveling down from Princess Cayes to Curacao. Far rougher than I expected and it seemed most passengers but that cant be helped. The excursion we had booked was a beach sea aquarium break. It was raining when we left the ship but we were told we couldnt cancel and it would probably clear up. Our guide was on his first day and didnt know where the aquarium was and it rained more or else all the time we were on the beach. Also the beach was a building site (pictures to back this up) huge crane, builders in hard hats, broken glass etc. we paid for our own taxi back to the ship as we didn't want to endure it any longer. the next day we were at Aruba - and it was pouring down. Again we were not allowed to cancel and this was a beach day again in an aqua park. I would have liked to have had the chance to swap to a more weather appropriate excursion. Anyway we went by bus and then open top boat to an island where we sat under cover and looked at the beach and aqua park until the owner of the park arranged for us to be taken back to the ship after about 2 hours. She said she had called the ship first thing and told them it would rain all day but they took us anyway - NOT IMPRESSED - i will probably never go back there again and all I saw of the island was a wet beach - no one enjoyed that day. Back on the boat and just when we thought it could get no worse the captain announced we were set for gale force winds and 18 foot seas that he hadn't seen in the Caribbean for his 20 years - panic !! I happened to be in the medical centre at this time and the crews faces dropped and then the passengers came in - mostly scared and some wanting sea sick pills as the shop had sold out. I thought the captains remarks were thoughtless and irresponsible - i didn't need to know this was the worst he had seen. All in all I could go on about the lack of sunbeds - although plenty not actually sat on just loads of "stuff" on them to reserve them.... how no one watched the pools- I feel out with a fellow passenger when he "bombed" my 5 year old but no one backed me up - movies under the stars - sucky - really noisy but during the day you cant actually see it due to the sun Zumba classes were advertised but were not on this ship. I went on my first cruise with my family when I was 2 years old, since that time I have been on many cruises and always enjoyed them. Time on the ship as the best vacation for me and even on average cruise I would find so many wonderful things to do that it made for a great vacation every time. Until this cruise on Crown Princess. This is an officially LAST cruise I will ever take on Princess cruise line. This has been the most horrible experience of my entire life. All throughout the cruise I was wishing that I was home and never put a foot on this ship. This comes from a very experienced cruiser who even 2 weeks ago was pervading everyone that there is no better place on earth then on the deck of the ship. I will start from the beginning and describe in details all 7 days. We purchased this cruise 11 month in advance as a celebratory cruise for my husband's 50th birthday. We were supposed to sail as a family of 16 but due to people losing their jobs and recession, only 6 of us could sail at the end. And this was the blessing that the rest of the people were spared this horror. Me, 42, hubby, 50, kids, 10 and 18, parents 72 and 73. We got 2 balcony cabins, and requested 1 double bed and a rollaway bed in each cabin. When completing the personalization page online before the cruise I have requested again that we have 1 double bed in each cabin, extra towels and bath robes. I have filled out for all 6 of use that we are celebrating a birthday and that is the reason for this cruise. When we got to the port Everglades at 12:30 as it was stated in the itinerary, we were horded to convention center and given a number. No other explanation was provided. After an hour there was an announcement that embarkations will be delayed until 2 pm. At 2:30 there was another announcement that embarkation will be delayed until 3 pm. We have learned from people around that there is norovirus on the ship and the ship is being disinfected. We finally got on the ship at 4:45 pm. To my total surprise our cabins has 2 single beds each and no place to sleep for a third person (who btw paid a full 3rd person fair and was not traveling for free). The cabins were also filthy, not cleaned from previous passengers, and my daughter cut her foot on broken glass within a minute after we entered the cabin. There were no robes, no extra towels (2 towels for 3 people actually) and no fruit basket, or anything extra. We went to front desk and stayed there the rest of the first day speaking to different managers who really could not care less and were not going to do anything about it. They told us that they do not have rollaway beds and there is nothing they can do. We had to tell them that we will bring mattress and all 6 of us will sleep in front of the front desk to get them moving. By 2 am we had 1 rollaway bed and my husband and I were dispatched into an emergency cabin for 1 night until they could figure out what to do with 6th passenger. The emergency cabin was so dirty, we stripped the bed and put beach towels to sleep on, shower was never cleaned, bed linens were used. Also on the first day, we went to Princess Theater for a Welcome Show, which never happened due to "technical issues" as cruise director explained. Next day, we had breakfast at the buffet, and this is a new horror all together. Due to norovirus you could not serve yourself in the buffet, staff had to serve you and that would be find if they knew what they were doing. During the 7 days I have called for manager at least 7 times in the buffet just trying to get service. You get a waffle and ask for whipped cream, they will either tell you they do not know where it is or put butter on top and call it whipped cream. One day I was walking with bowl of oatmeal for 10 minutes trying to find brown sugar and no one at the buffer would know where the sugar was. If you ask for cold cuts, they give you 1, you have to ask for each piece of ham, fish, cheese, strawberry, etc. One day they were serving brisket for lunch and I was observing a passenger who got brisket and was trying to get mustard from the server, and she would deliver mustard on his plate one drop at a time until he could not stand it anymore and just threw the plate and left. The selection was terrible -- burnt bacon, burnt sausage, scrambled eggs, rise pudding, salty fish, hash browns -- most of the stuff was uneatable. One morning 6 of us were sitting at the table waiting for server to take our drink order, finally he came and asked what we wanted, I said "Some orange juice please" He replied "One?" I said (sarcastically) -- "Yes, we will share" In 5 minutes we got 1 orange juice -- true story. My father likes his tea sweet, but they would not leave a sugar dispenser on the table so he needed to ask for sugar every time he had tea and would get a packet at the time. The service was so bad that if I could I would not eat there at all. Which brings me to another point -- room service. I could not use room service even once throughout the cruise. Every time I called, either line was busy or I was on hold until I could no longer hold the phone. Not once was my call answered. We had pretty rough see and kids got sea sick, I could not get room service to bring us tea in the cabin. I was on hold one time for 22 minutes and then someone just disconnected the line. My husband had to walk with cup of tea at the time in an 18 ft see on moving ship because room service was unreachable. Day 2. Princes Key. After terrible night and poor breakfast we went to Michelangelo dining room as we were told to get off the ship and on the island. Surprise, surprise, there was a multi-level line of 3000 people waiting to get off the ship, I wish I could show you pictures, there were rings and rings of people waiting and due to "technical difficulties" no one was taken ashore. Tenders did not work, so they needed to lower emergency boats and take 80 passengers at the time. From 10 am it took us until 1 pm to get to the beach, buffet on the island was working until 1:30, kids were hungry after terrible breakfast, so instead of the beach we went to buffet -- well, it was uneatable, selection was miniscule, ribs were raw, hamburger was burnt, no salads. We stayed on the beach for less than 2 hours and stayed for 2 more hours in line to get on the ship. By that time I was ready to get back home and every going back to work sounded more fun than this vacation. Day 3. On the ship. This was the only day when it was not raining and the weather was good and sea was calm. I stayed on the deck where with help of a fellow passenger I put 2 lounge chairs together -- the rest were taken by towels and magazines and no one was enforcing no reservation rules. I got watered down Pina Colada for $11.25 and my Mom got watered down strawberry daiquiri with strawberry syrup for $11.25 that she could not drink it was nauseatingly sweet. Movies under the stars make no sense because during the day due to reflection you cannot see anything on the screen and every night it was raining. Dining room: We always request late sitting, and table was ready for us every night. Our servers were very good and the only people who cared and tried their best to make this cruise a better experience for us. It was very difficult for our waiter considering the horrible menu and poorly cooked meals we were served. The chef needs to go to cook school, its a shame to receive food like we were served in the dining room of the ship. Every night we had to send food back because it was not cooked properly. We are not picky but I could not cut veal masala because it was so tough, beef wellington was served bloody inside, meat loaf is completely raw, red and bloody, fish had no taste, short ribs were not separating from the bone, and I can go on and on. Every time we go on the cruise we try to walk a lot and swim in order not to gain weight -- this cruise all 6 of us lost weight -- this is not a joke -- we left dining room half hungry every night. Not once during the 7 days I had a good salad. In the buffet the salad bar was a joke -- romaine leafs, tomatoes, olives and marinated cauliflower. In dining room they only had small Caesar salad. I would not complain if I was served cobb salad or chef salad but they did not have that on the menu. So for 7 days we had tea and bagel for breakfast, little salad and cold cuts for lunch, appetizers, salad and dessert for dinner. Does not sound like a cruise menu to me. Entertainment: There were 3 production shows -- all pretty basic and not memorable, Mo Town is worst then most, Destination Anywhere is ok if it was not for singers, they have lost their voices or never had them to begin with. Not a good entertainment at all. Cruise director was everywhere, she was announcing everything, she would be on TV and on speakers at the same time, she was at every show, at every event, teaching dance classes, opening shows, just everywhere -- poor girl, she worked like no cruise director I've ever seen -- no support from her staff. But cruise entertainment cannot be held together by one person and it showed. Guest performers were not funny and not entertaining, the games were not funny, the trivia was too British, and everything was just not the way it used to be. Art Auction was every day all day long, they kept on pushing ugly art into everyone. Shops on board had no selection -- first time I did not buy anything on the ship. Captains formal night was another spit in the face -- people got dressed up nicely, made tuxedo arrangements, etc and were served mimosas!!! No h'oderves, no wine, no champagne tower. And last but not least: The 50th Birthday Celebration - The reason for this miserable cruise - IT NEVER HAPPENED. The room steward did not even put a sign on the room or balloons; we did not receive the chocolate covered strawberries and champagne, and NO ONE had acknowledged my husbands birthday!!! I am tired of writing and re-living this miserable cruise and I am sure you are tired or reading it. If you already bought tickets -- I wish you better experience then what we had. If you did not buy tickets yet -- don't! If you must go on a cruise go with Celebrity or more reputable cruise line, they also cut corners but nothing like Princess. Read Less

After a nightmarish Princess land tour from Toronto, we couldn't wait to board the Crown. We'd had a very good experience on the Crown on a past sailing. However, we found this experience on the Crown to be equally as bad as the land tour. We dealt with a room steward who preferred to watch tv rather than clean the cabins. Waiters and their helpers with very bad attitudes seemed to prevail. Food was only fair in the dining room as well as the buffet. The Anytime Dining was a joke. When we sailed previously on the Crown, ANYTIME Dining was ANYTIME. Now we found we had to have reservations for "anytime" dining. We also found that whether we had reservations or not, we had to wait up to 30 minutes to be seated. The reservations process was also a joke. There were mornings we were on "hold" with the resrvations people for over 20 minutes trying to make a reservation for so-called "any time" dining. Shore excursions were almost always very late in leaving the ship - then we were rushed on the excursions to get back to the ship in time. The guides on most of the excusions were not of the quality we were used to with Prncess. We spoke with several people who were not happy with Princess. As one man put it: PRINCESS NO LONGER MAKES YOU FEEL SPECIAL! That sums up the whole experience - land tour as well as the cruise. And for the money we paid for the land tour/cruise - we definitely deserved to feel special! Read Less

Found the entire ship musty smelling. Balconies are very small. Buffet areas very congested and main dining room very dark with low ceilings. Staff - Stateroom attendant was great. Looked after us very well. So much for the policy if a lounger is left unattended for a set amount of time. Brought this to a staff members attention that a couple of loungers had been left unattended for well over 1/2 hour and he told me "you should have come here earlier". I also called Customer Service for a "lost" item and was not happy with response either. Food - First time I lost weight on a cruise. Food that I ordered from Botticelli dining room other than the lobster night was terrible. Ended up eating in Horizon Court and Caribe Court most nights trying to put something together for a meal - there was always a salad and rolls available. Breakfast was the only really good meal of the day and we used room service since the line ups for breakfast began in the pool area outside Horizon Court. Princess is not very strict with offering hand sanitizer before entering food area. On one particular morning after lining up for breakfast the attendant handed us our plate with her bare hands - no sanitization here.Entertainment - Fine if you like jugglers and comedians. Music in the Piazza was awful - a lot of "chamber" music....fine if you like Bach or Bethoven...no dancing. I always enjoy this area after dinner but only visited it once and left it was so bad.Disembarkation - Requested early disembarkation for 11 a.m. flight. We were given a 7:55 a.m., disembarkation with a transfer to the airport.Would I sail again on Princess - Definitely not. Read Less

I had always heard that Princess was a premier cruise line, but what we experienced on our Christmas cruise was nothing short of bottom of the line. We were one of the 113 cabins that had their LUGGAGE DELIVERED TO THE CABIN SOAKING WET! Everything in our luggage was wet or damp and my formal silk dress was ruined! The cabin steward was slow to respond to our calls about the situation and after 3 calls to Passenger Services, he arrived to stand with his mouth open offering no advice or help. No one from passenger service or corporate ever contacted us about making amends! During the trip every call to Passenger Services took at least 6 rings before someone answered if anyone answered at all! Two of the 5 nights we ate in the dining room we had to get up from our table and hunt down our waitstaff as they would disappear during the meal. In addition to these huge problems, there were other small things that made their lack of customer service glaringly obvious: from the port security check to get on the ship took over an hour. The Princess employee checking in passengers was extremely slow and they held everyone up for id photos before boarding, but they only had 2 cameras for over 3000 passengers! The staff at the counter service areas, like the coffee bar, were rude and often would not say one word during serving us. Maybe a "Can I help you?" or a "Thank you"? Nope, just frowning. The food was average, the kids programs were nothing special, the elevators were slow and the pools were small, but I wouldn't have thought twice about things like this if only the customer service was there. It's the main feature I look for in any vacation. Next time I will use my money on a disney cruise where I have always found the employee to be stellar and the service to be top notch. Read Less

Our luggage arrived on Saturday evening completely soaked. Had we not complained to the ship staff, they would have just ignored the fact that their staff left our luggage in the pouring rain for over an hour. We found out from passengers who watched as the Princess staffers ran for cover during a downpour, leaving luggage with not even a tarp to cover it. We had only the clothes on our backs for 2 1/2 days. They were so backlogged with cleaning passenger laundry, they could not handle the demand. A little forethought could have saved them a lot of trouble. So, we were unable to attend the formal dining extravaganza as we had no proper attire. Very poor, Princess. The food at the Horizon Court was miserable. The pork was like shoe leather and most of the food was COLD. I tried a waffle for breakfast and could not even saw through it with a knife. Eggs were stone cold and runny. Isn't Princess embarrassed to present this kind of food and service to passengers? Could they care less? Someone from Princess should go undercover and fix this mess on this ship. The pizza was very good and the International Cafe was good as well. If you take this ship, be prepared to lose weight. We did. The food in the dining room was OK, so eat there for breakfast. At least the food is hot. We left from Pier 2 and arrived back at Pier 29! Absolutely NO communication from the staff as passengers waited in disgust for over an hour to disembark. Then, they had only 2 small shuttle buses to transport 3000 passengers to the proper terminal for their cars and pick-ups. Very poor. In addition, the bus driver was pandering the crowd for tips...While on the bus, we heard other horror stories from other passengers. Some had made "reservations" for Any Time Dining to find that there were no tables available for them. Other passengers complained that the ship staff messed up their birth dates so 44 year old people were showing as 13 yrs old and could not enter the casino. The ship never did fix the mess up. I will be SURE to watch my billing from them very carefully. All I can say is that they ruined our 5 day cruise. We were so looking forward to our first Princess cruise and were met with a mess. Think twice before you book on the Crown Princess. Never again. Read Less

Prior experience have been Rome to Venice, Alaska, and the Baltic on Silver Sea. My favorite. Barcelona to Rome on Crystal,Very nice. Carribean on Big Red Boat (Disney), actually very nice but a little crowed. Agean on Siver Cloud crusies, unique and wonderful. My wife decided that she could not come, so things had changed at the last minute. 1st day, all of my excursions were cancelled, Nobody knew by whom. 2.5 hours in line to see what could be done. Nice lady at tour desk (Erica from Chile) helped and got me rescheduled, but had to speak to the senior purser before. Have spent a total of 4.0 hours in the tour line. Inadequate staff, inadequate space. Minibar request was also lost. Instructions say "select as many as you wish" Now they want to charge me, for what I previously selected, but was not delivered. Food is mediocre at best, nickle and dime charges are ridiculous. Have complementary canapes for my suite, order requested. What arrived had no resemblance to my order. Same for Fruit basket, although it has yet to be delivered. Laundry has been lost. All of this in the first two days. A 2/10 is being generous. With the exception of only 2 people, my steward, and the lady on the tour desk, the crew does not seem to care. And blame everything on company policy. At the theater tonight, tried to save a seats for friends. Told that it was company policy that seats could not be saved. Looked all over, no mention of this on any literature, or posted anywhere. This is my worst cruise experience ever!! I can't think of any circumstance that will get me back on this cruise line ever again. We have taken 9 cruises (1 Alaska, 1 Mexico Pacific, 1 Canada-New England, 3 Caribbean, and 3 Europe) and this was definitely our most disappointing cruise experience. Our 7 day Crown Princess itinerary called for 4 port days (Cayman Islands; Roatan, Honduras; Cozumel, Mexico, and Princess Cays). Our last cruise was a 12 day British Isles cruise aboard the Crown Princess last July. We had a good experience on that trip. We got off to a good start with our first day at sea. With fixed dining, we enjoyed excellent food and service in the dining room and must say our dining steward was the highlight of the trip (if there could be one). Our first port day was in the Cayman Islands. We used Princess' 'Reef & Wreck Snorkeling' shore excursion, which was a good outing. We snorkeled over the wrecked ship 'Cali' and at another reef. Georgetown (and Grand Cayman) is very upscale compared to many other Caribbean islands (nice and clean), but is also quite modern with not much in the way of scenery (except for the beach/shoreline). Princess maps for their Caribbean destinations only have shopping destinations (not a single landmark) so you have to get your own maps on shore if you want to see anything other than stores!). Our second port day was in Roatan, Honduras. Instead of docking at the 'old' pier in Coxen Hole (also referred to as 'Downtown' by the locals) we unfortunately docked at Carnival's new 'Mahogany' Pier which is about 5-8 miles east of Downtown. This destination is apparently the result of a $65 million investment by Carnival. The entire complex is brand new, with many stores and then a beach/ water sports area that you can either walk to (or ride a chair life for $8 per person!--why do that when you can walk in about 5 minutes?). However, if one justs stays here, it is like being docked at a modern American shopping mall and you really don't see anything else. The beach at Roatan Mahogany is OK, but the water is alot more silty and not as clear as the island's west end. We opted for Princess's Clear Kayaking/Snorkeling excursion. This was a good choice as we got a nice drive across the island, which is quite beautiful and lush. As would be expected, there is some poverty on the island, but not as abject as we had feared. Our excursion took us to a lovely area called Gumbalimba Park Beach, which has several adjacent nice hotels. The water and corral is beautiful here. We returned to the ship and then the problems began. At 5 p.m. the Captain announces that we will be departing late for Cozumel. Per the Captain,"My chart here indicates that if the winds are greater than 25 knots (28 mph) it is not safe to sail out of the narrow harbor". (WHAT? 25 KNOTS (28.5 MPH IS NOT A SEVERE WIND CONDITION). The Captain's plan is to wait 'until the winds die down' and leave at 7 p.m. Everyone is on board and we are just sitting there--no one is allowed to get off. After 2 more announcements, it is now 9 p.m. and the winds have not died down. We go to bed still sitting in Roatan. Finally, at 6:30 a.m., we are finally able to leave. The captain announces that 'THIS HARBOR (Roatan Mahogany) IS NOT DESIGNED FOR EASTERLY WINDS' and 'WE COULD NOT SAFELY SAIL OUT WHEN THE WINDS ARE OVER 25 KNOTS'. (Having been on 9 cruises, we know that 28 mph winds are not severe winds--Didn't the captain know that these winds would come up through the weather forecast. Why didn't we dock further off shore and tender in?). Anyway, we then hear the incredibly disappointing announcement that WE NOW HAVE TO SKIP COZUMEL COMPLETELY and just sail to Princess Cay. WHAT? I BOOKED THIS CRUISE SO I COULD VISIT THE MAYAN RUINS IN COZUMEL!. I walked up to the front desk and asked why we couldn't do a sea day today, go to Cozumel tomorrow, and then do a sea day on Friday and skip Princess Cay. Princess Cay is private beach island (and the beach is not that great--we have been there before). The front desk person says that cannot answer that question and then asks me to write a letter to the captain. Which I did and did not receive an answer for over 24 hours. Finally, someone calls me back and says "we could not go to Cozumel because of schedule constraints and some passengers could also be upset that we skip Princess Cay". So we had 2 days at sea and then on to Princess Cay. We visited Princess Cay previously. The beach is OK (a bit rocky and silty), but not great compared to Holland America's Half Moon Cay or other Caribbean beaches. To tell me that anyone would rather go to Princess Cay than Cozumel does not hold water. So I paid $5k for 2 balcony rooms plus $1.6k in airfare to do a 3 day cruise that brought me to the Cayman Islands, Roatan (a glorified shopping mall destination) and Princess Cay? This is definitely the WORST travel value I have ever had on a cruise--we select cruises based on itineraries. We plan to contact Princess today to see how they will offer to make good on this huge disappointment. However, we fault Princess (and Carnival) for sailing into this port when they knew of the design flaws. Didn't they have a forecast that the winds would pick up in the afternoon? Why didn't we anchor further our and tender in? What if the winds didn't let up for 2-3 days--would we have sat there that long? We understand the risks of cruising in bad weather, but 25 knots are NOT severe or unusual wind conditions. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID THIS DESTINATION WHEN BOOKING A CARIBBEAN CRUISE AS IT CAN CERTAINLY RUIN YOUR TRIP. We arrived back on Fort Lauderdale. Because of a later flight, we taxi'd over to the Las Olas area in Fort Lauderdale and took the Carrie B harbor cruise. This 90 minute harbor/ canal/ home tour by boat is excellent and is a nice way to end your trip (especially if it's as disappointing as our was). Please note I have been on so many other ships and lines and also on Princess before and was looking so forward to this cruise. I talked a friend into going telling him how great a cruise was.... It used to be and now he says he won't go on a another cruise. Princess did that. Getting on was easy enought but then we had to find our cabin with no help from the crew. Got to the cabin and the bed was a queen. We asked for twins. I was traveling with a friend not a lover. Asked for the beds to be seperated and for the whole cruise could not get it done. We had anytime dinning and oh my goodness was I dis-appointed. The dining room staff were anything but helpful. We even had to get up and get our own water at the station. The food was terrible and could not eat it most of the time. The dress code went the way of the food. Cut offs, jeans, ball caps, shorts even on formal (thats a joke too) night. The deck was always full and never any chairs as the people on board would get up (crack of dawn I suppose) and put towels in chairs to hold them. I had to walk and walk and walk and still never got to sit by the pool or on deck anywhere. People were rude, screaming at each other etc. Tried the entertainment and the dancers could not even keep time. they missed dancing with each other. Where to begin? The embarkation was easy and pleasant. I loved Rome and traveled to the ship by myself from termini station..it was only a couple euros for a one way train ticket. My husband and I opted for anytime dining thinking this would give us more flexibility. The dining service was slipshod at best and disgusting at worst. The waitstaff seemed untrained and were entirely unreliable. Coffee was brought after dinner only if we asked a few times and after 10 or 15 minutes the cream might or might not arrive. The food was a ghastly mix of microwaved fare. A T.V. dinner would have been better then that slop the served us. The buffet food was decent but rather bland and predictable. One day they had sushi which was a nice treat. The main reason we took the cruise was because of Pompeii and Herculaneum. We both love ancient history and could not wait to wonder through the ruins. The over priced excursion to Herculaneum consisted of a rushed trip through the ruins and then on to a cheesy cameo factory for an hour or two. We were given the hard sell on these over priced trinkets but refused to buy anything. I would strongly advise anyone considering this trip to book their own excursions or you will end up in a cameo factory. We felt so cheated and disgusted. One the ship days the chaise hogs arrived in the early morning hours to stake their claims. The would drop a book or towel and then wander off for hours. We complained but it was to no avail. The entertainment was so horrendous that it was simply unbelievable....like some bad high school musical gone awry. None of it was professional in any capacity and unbearable unless you were drunk or in a coma. I could go on and on but I wont..just grateful to disembark (which went very smoothly) and get off that ship! This was truly the worst cruise imaginable. This was my third Princess cruise but NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! I forgot to mention the enrichment guy on board. He was the bright spot of the trip. Every cruise ship should have such a person. My husband and I cruise every year, sometimes twice. It is the best way to relax. NO worries, great food, excellent service and best way to see all the islands. I can go to the spa, my husband can read. He can scuba dive and I can tour and play at the beach. The best option for couples who like different things on vacation. Our preferred cruise line is RCCL. We have always wonderful experiences on RCCL ships. This year when booking our cruise, we found that RCCL was much more expensive than in the past. For the last few years, our travel agent has tried to get us to try Princess Cruise Line. The identical itineraries for both lines usually are within a few hundred dollars of each other. But this year, RCCL nearly doubled the rate on Princess. So, we trusted our agent (who has never tried RCCL), and went with Princess. We sailed out of FLL on the 10th of April aboard the Crown Princess for a 7 night to Eastern Caribbean. We had talked extensively about not comparing the two lines and just going to have a good time. This proved to be nearly impossible. My first impression of the embarkation was not good. The lines were not long, which was nice. We were told to go to any window, no matter what deck, and anyone could help us. We did just that, but no one came to help. After 20 minutes of standing in a line in front of the counter, a worker said, "Go to another line, no one is at that one." At least 5 people were standing behind the counters doing nothing but complaining about someone putting the cards in the wrong place. After moving to another line, we were given our cruise cards and were off to board the ship. As soon as we boarded the ship, we were immediately shoved into an elevator and asked what floor. Literally. We walked on board, turned to the left and a staff member said, "This way," and put us in an elevator. We had to go to our stateroom first. We were never given the option to pause and look around or even wander the ship a little. We stayed on Caribe, deck 10. Stateroom was smaller than what we were used to on RCCL. Although the closet was much larger on the Crown, it did not make up for the mediocrity of everything else. One very small desk with 2 drawers, terrible lighting and directly next to the balcony door was the only thing other than the bed. A small fridge with a shelf above for the TV was on the opposite wall in the corner. We had 2 outlets in the whole stateroom. They were placed so close together that if something was in one outlet, it blocked the other. Terrible engineering. Bathroom was the smallest of any ship I have ever been on. Shower? I am small framed woman and it was cramped for me. Very disappointing. On to the best part of the room, the balcony. Our balcony was huge. We were very happy! It held 4 chairs and a table. Two of the chairs even reclined. My husband commented that the huge balcony made up for the terrible room. Well, that was until we looked up. I had not been made aware of the "staggered" balcony concept. We could see everything on the balcony below us and everyone from anywhere higher than deck 10 could see everything on ours. Whenever a deck above us was cleaned or even the stateroom above ours, the excess water fell directly onto our balcony. We could not lay out without getting wet from somewhere above. So, huge balcony was worthless. The door to the balcony did not seal well. All night long the wind whistled through the cracks. The ship creaked and made noises all night long. By the third night, I had to buy earplugs just to block out the noise from the ship. Keep in mind that on RCCL, we sleep with our balcony door open every night. I have never been on a ship that made so much noise! Without going into major details, (it would take 4 pages), the food was terrible! It was not even up to par with Sizzler or a buffet. Any steak came well done, despite asking for medium. A filet mignon was more like a cheap round steak, drenched in a terrible sauce. Salads were mediocre. On our first night, I asked the waiter for steamed broccoli every night. He said no problem, but it never came. Our friends asked for lemonade with dinner. We were told no lemonade in the dining room! On any other ship, the waiter would have gone to whatever part of the ship and found us lemonade. I would like to say that poor service was the exception, but I would be lying. It was ship wide. Everyday we had breakfast and/or lunch in the Horizon Court (buffet). The food was worse than a hospital cafeteria. Very few choices and the same everyday. It was crowded and no rhyme or reason. The butter was on the salad bar, but 3 islands away from the bread. Try getting ketchup. One bottle for the whole buffet! When we asked for a soda, most times we were done with our food before it came. The service was terrible, at best. Never a "My Pleasure", a standard on RCCL, or anything of the like. The workers seemed rude and mad to have to work. I suppose it's because Princess automatically charges your pass for tips, so they get a share not matter how crappy the service. I asked our waiter if he had ever worked on RCCL. He said, "No Way!" He told me how staff came to Princess from RCCL. They left RCCL because it was too strict and too many rules. When they would come to Princess, they felt like they had hit the jackpot. Well, I suppose all of the rules and strickness of RCCL translates into well-mannered staff and excellent service. Entertainment? What a joke! The Princess Singers and Dancers were the most unprofessional of any show, including Vegas, I have ever seen. Male dancers tattooed all over and nipple rings. Really? You can't take your nipple rings out for your shirtless dance? The production was random, inappropriate, and worse than a high school musical. A fabulous comedian was featured. He was hilarious without being vulgar! Nice change. One port day, all of the ATM's were not working. We asked the Purser's desk what we could do? We were out of cash. He said to find an ATM on land. Problem, we needed to take a taxi from the port in St. Thomas to get into town. He looked at us and said sorry. Not an offer to let us cash a personal check or even charge our pass for $20 to get us enough money to get to a bank. I could go on and on about the disappointment of Princess Cruise Line. I can guarantee that this will be our only time on this line. Even if we had a free cruise, we would not go on Princess ever again. The parts we love most about cruising, (staff, service, food) were absent. Not to mention that they nickle and dime you do death! Charge for ice cream and $10-$20 to use the adult pool! Plus, any of the little bakeries or tappas stands around the ship charged money! Ridiculous. We will cruise again later this year, but will go back to RCCL! The money we saved by doing Princess was not worth the quality of the trip. You get what you pay for. The name "Princess" does to fit, it should be more like "Ugly Step-Sister". We all flew into Ft Lauderdale from different places the day before the cruise. Stayed at the Marriott Courtyard cruiseport location. Hotel was very nice and located next to the Bass Pro Shop but nothing else around so restaurants were no where to be found with in walking distance. The Hotel took us to the cruise terminal 11 am and after a short wait we were able to board a little early and considering the huge crowd it went pretty smooth. Of course the first thing you do is find your room {our was a balcony} pretty small compared to the prior cruises we had been on. Baja deck #11. We seen an inside room and it was the same size so not much of an upgrade for the money difference. The Tv was 32" flat screen but most channels were about the cruise ship and any other programs were played over and over and over, no NBC CBS ABC or National News. We thought most activities were pretty lame for us, scrap booking, Crafts, The huge outside Big Screen was nice but all the activities and big screen were on deck 15 along with the pools, buffet, ice cream pizza, and of course that's where everyone was so you always had to fight the crowd. If you wanted a hamburger,pizza,or anything from the buffet you were in a line 40 people deep. All the food served was barely warm at best and by the time you found a seat it was cold, as seating was limited because of so many people and so little space. On a positive note the coffee was Hot! Of course the ship had plenty of bars and a wait staff always trying to get you a drink but at $3.95 + tax and 15% tip a beer cost you $4.75 and if you had a small Mai-Tai it was $7.76 so needless to say you were either sober or broke. You could buy a soda package for $4.95 + tax and 15% gratuity that = $68.43 for both of us and that was for fountain drinks only, any juice was extra. We did not go to any of the Pay Additional Money restaurants as we were so disappointed with the food so far we weren't going to pay additional for more disappointment. The included sit down restaurants were just OK. I am sure it is a challenge to have food prepared for so many but that's what they are charging for. Most of the food had good presentation but was really lacking in flavor as it appears they do not use spices on this ship. Steaks were of poor quality and very tough. We love to cook and enjoy great food and all of the food on this ship was very disappointing. A couple that took their children were very disappointed in the activities and after 1 day the kids did did not want to go back. Shore excursions that we took we pretty good. But we do believe that Princess Cruise Lines gets some kind of kick back as they push real hard for you to deal with Diamonds International and a few companies that are very pricey. Entertainment! Well they had a comic, juggler and a magician that were all pretty good, but allot of trivia and karaoke that is cheep entertainment and went on nightly and got old quick. Most of the music played around the boat was fair to poor at best. Public restrooms are few and far in-between and well hidden and hard to find. Looking at other reviews on this Crown Princess before writing mine I see where others mention also that THIS BOAT HAS A BAD VIBRATION that will drive you nuts. Unless you are docked. We did have a few positive things to say, We had plenty of hot water, hot coffee. Our room Stewart Sandi was great, as we did not want for anything when it came to him. And he was rewarded in person for a job well done. Disembarkation went well and was probably one of the best things that happened to us. GETTING US OFF THIS SORRY EXCUSE OF A BOAT THAT RUINED OUR VACATION. Thank god we went with friends so we could enjoy them. I hope this little bit of info will help you make a better decision when choosing what cruise you go on. After being on many other cruises, this was the absolute worst! We could only compare it to a repositioning cruise. If you ever did one, you know what I mean! Our destinations were: San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Georges (Grenada), Bonaire, Aruba and back to San Juan. They should rethink Grenada and Bonaire. Absolutely nothing worth seeing on these islands. Unless you scuba or snorkel. The amount of time spent on these islands would have been better served with more time in St. Thomas and/or Aruba. We spent 11 hrs. in St. Thomas (7 am - 6pm), fabulous! 8 hrs. in St. Kitts (it's ok). 5 hrs. in Grenada (what a dump!). 8 hrs. in Bonaire (never left the ship for this one) and 9 hrs. in Aruba (fantastic!). The weather was just plain horrible with high seas and high winds. The ships TV said "Gale force winds", something like 26 knots every night while we sailed. Surely not their fault, but still more of a nuisance listening to the wind through a sliding door that doesn't seal right! While cruising to other ports at night our outside furniture was rolling back & forth smashing into the balcony dividers.This brings me to our cabin. Nothing at all like the picture online. We had told them about our anniversary and asked to have the room decorated. It wasn't. On the 4th day I finally called and they scotch taped 3 balloons outside our door. Nothing like RCCL! On to our steward Francis. Our anniversary pkg. included a full bottle of champagne, which we did receive, only we didn't drink it for a couple of days. My wife was feeling ill and I took her to the Dr. in sick bay. They told her she had a little cold! She gave her a bottle of Robitussin and a box of Sudafed. (Meanwhile we found out she had walking pneumonia when we got home) For this they charged us $120.00 and never put a stethoscope to her chest! My advice, don't get sick on a cruise! This went right along with horrible room at the Holiday Inn in San Juan (Carolina). We had to exchange our room (Executive Suite 6th fl. ocean view) for a room in which we could smoke (on the terrace) around the pool. When we opened the door to our room, the stench of mold and mildew made us step right back out! To make a really long story short, we left with no refund! $461.61 for 2 nts. gone! The Embassy Suites right next door, gave us a King bed smoking room for $530.00 - 2 nites. They had a casino and an Outback restaurant inside (never ate there but did have a drink). Our stay was just fine. We stayed at the Condado Plaza & Hotel Casino upon our return from the cruise. It was decent enough although the six pack of Coors Light @ $36.00 was skunked and expired in Aug. 07'. Back to the Crown Princess! The people that work on this tug should give up their day jobs! On our 1st day pool side, we got a drink immediately. Then it took a half hr. to get somebodies attention. I could have walked over to the bar but it was 3 deep! Now I know why! You couldn't find a waiter! When I did get to order, he brought the wrong drink! This was typical of all I had encountered. Our 1st "Formal" night we went to "The Crown Grill" ($25.00 pp)it was just awful! All of our side dishes were cold to almost warm! I had the Ribeye steak med. and my wife had the Petite Filet Mignon. Mine was over done and hers was under done. We had ordered a bottle of wine ($54.00) had 2 cocktails before dinner and our bill was $153.00! I actually made them go over the bill so I could understand how they were billing me. Highway robbery! Our reg. dining room seating was the late seating. We never went. It was on the 4th deck aft (the Botticcelli) & we were on deck 15 forward. 900 ft forward and 11 stories away, with no single way to get there without going outside into the winds.The 2nd "Formal" night we went to the Michael Angelo dining room. We chose open seating and sat with some very nice people. 2 couples were from England and the other couple were from Calif. They all concurred with us about the horrible food! Heres an example: Caesar Salad - a soaking wet mess! It looked just like the creamed spinach! Inedible! My NY strip, tough as nails. Even the soup "Root Veg." tasted like dirt! We got up and left. No reason to try anything else. The buffet food was ten times better! Only you had to deal with the "beasts at the trough"! A bunch of (what I would classify as) trailer park trash, including the smell of body odor. They would push their way in and reach right in front of you to get at the food. Totally classless! We had never run into that on RCCL! Even the casino couldn't make up their mind if it was smoking or non-smoking! Sometimes you could and sometimes you can't. I just don't get it? We will never cruise on Princess again. Way too many people and the fact that tips are already included means they get tips no matter how well or poor they perform. In our opinion, by lowering the price of a cruise, they have opened the flood gates for the masses only to be unable to cater to any, let alone all of them! I would of had more fun burning the $7000.00 than taking this cruise! Oh! I almost forgot. We went to the Crown Grill for disembarkation which is for "Platinum Club" members. Heres what you could get: coffee, OJ, water (glass) and a stale danish! That was it! No mamosa'a or any cocktails were available. The used plates sat on our table from 7:30 till 10:45 were still there when we finally left! Quite a few other passengers also were complaining about this ship, especially the staff & food! So we weren't alone!They can keep the Crown and any other Princess ship! Read Less

My friends and I have recently returned from a one week Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Crown Princess. We embarked from San Juan and sailed to the islands of Tortola, Antigua, St.Lucia, Barbados and St.Thomas. We were VERY disappointed with the level of service from Princess both prior to and during the cruise. We booked our flights with Princess, which was a HUGE mistake!!! They had nothing available flying out of Toronto, so we had to drive to Buffalo. We received our flight itinerary only AFTER we had paid our final cruise payment. Here was our flight itinerary: Buffalo --> Philadelphia --> Boston --> San Juan (19 hours in total transit) On the way back: San Juan --> Miami --> Tampa --> Detroit --> Buffalo (13 hours in total transit) I immediately called Princess to see if they could change the flight to something with fewer connections and they told me this was the "BEST" they could do. Not only were these multi-connections, but they were also connections between different airlines! On the way home, our flight from San Juan was delayed by 40 minutes, which meant we would miss our next flight (YES!!! Princess only gave us a 40 minute window to catch our next flight!!!). Because we were travelling with a group of over 30, the plane waited for us, but then the agents at the counter began selling off our tickets to people on stand-by because we weren't at the gate 15 minutes prior to boarding. Needless to say..some of us were stuck in Miami desperately looking for a flight back to Toronto/Buffalo during the end of March Break with tickets that they were told had "NO VALUE" to them! Cruise Amenities: I was shocked when I found that Princess charges an additional admission fee for the wave pool and sanctuary(adult only section)! Stateroom: Spacious and clean. The house-keeping staff was very helpful and polite. Dining: The waiters were rude and very slow in the main dining room. With the automatic calculated daily tip that Princess charges on our accounts, I found the waiters did not work as hard to serve their clients. For example, when I requested one night if we could perhaps order our dessert at the same time as our entrees (so he didn't have to come back to us again), as we wanted to catch a show, the waiter rudely told us that it was not possible, and that if we were in a hurry, we should not have dined there. Entertainment: NOT very entertaining. Shore Excursions: Tortola - We went to the Baths via Speedy's ferry to Virgin Gorda and a shuttle to the Baths. Speedy's ferry was within walking distance from the port. I'm usually one to get seasick, but I made sure I had the motion wristbands, patch and anti-nausea meds..just in case. The 30 minute boat ride was not too bad. The Baths was amazing! After touring the boulders, we spent a couple hours at the beach. Antigua - We did the Canopy Tour with the ship. This was rated #9 out of #57 on Trip Advisor and when we tried to book it ourselves, we realized the ship had booked this place already. St.Thomas - Shopping Conclusion: I would NOT recommend cruising with Princess Cruises. The level of service was less than acceptable. Each year we book a family vacation and we usually we do resorts. This year we did the princess cruise, highly not recommended for a family vacation with kids. We have a 4 and 2 year old, the 4 year old can go to the kids program but the 2 year old can not. The kids pool is only 1 foot 4 inches deep, so going swimming with the children is out of the question. We did mostly tours of the islands on the days in port because there is nothing for the kids on the ship. Well except the kids program and we go on the vacations to spend time with the kids not leave them with someone else. The rooms were the size of an average walk in closet, kept up very nicely by a attendant which was 10.50 a day per person, so for us it was 42.00usd a day. I found 294.00 a little much for turn down service and towels, but the man was very nice and helpful. The food was average nothing outstanding, the waitstaff was on the most part excellent and had great dining room experiences. The nightly entertainment was great and had quite an assortment of different things to see and do. Overall if you are not taking any kids and just want to sail and see different islands and are not a night life person this is the a good option for you. For us we have set sail on our last cruise and we will stick to the resorts, with and without the kids cruises are not for us. If you are traveling with the kids please do yourself a favor and do not book this, they want to take the money for the kids but they do not want them to be seen or heard. This being my fourth cruise in twenty years, and my first on the Crown Princess, I have to say that my trip this time was very disappointing. From the poor customer service due to over crowding on the ship, to additional charges for even ice cream, I felt that my wallet was being held 'Hostage on the High Seas.' In addition, even though the staff was highly pleasant and eager to please, the rudeness and the display of selfishness of the on board passengers certainly made up for it. Lines existed for most amenities, and forget about booking a dinner in one of the private restaurants. The earliest that they could seat us in the Italian Sabatini's was at 9:30, the next to last evening of the cruise. Of course there were plenty of bars on board in case you got thirsty. Drinks average for a modest 7.50 each. Cokes went for two bucks a can and espresso and cappuccinos went for about $3. You can purchase unlimited soft drink cards and 15 specialty coffee cards on board the ship. This is considered extra and you have to pay for it. Don't expect the tap cokes to taste anything like the real thing because they don't. They taste more like sugar water than anything else. You can also purchase an ice cream sundae card on board as well. The Mock tail cards were also available for sale. These are specialty drinks like coco locos and strawberry margaritas made without the alcohol. Hamburgers and hot dogs were served on the deck near the pool. They didn't taste good. The hot dogs were more like big fat Bratwursts and didn't resemble anything like a NYC dog. The hamburgers tasted funny and the buns were stale. You can tell that these were probably not made fresh aboard ship. Upon entering our stateroom we noticed that the carpeting was worn and that there were scuffmarks all over one of the walls. In the evenings, our daughter's bunk bed was extended down from the ceiling, over half of our double twin bed. The bunk bed came down to about 4 1/2 feet off the floor. My wife kept hitting her head on the bed ever time that she either sat up in bed or had to get in and out of it. Access to the drawer on that side of the bed was pretty hard to get to since you had to crouch down really low to get access. My daughter had fractured her leg the week before ice-skating and it was difficult getting her in and out of bed as you can imagine. The stateroom door was also too narrow for the wheel chair that we had to buy for this trip. Princess has stated in a letter to me that there are a limited number of wheelchairs available onboard each of their ships for passengers to use during their cruise. I was notified of this fact by a letter that I received at home from Princess during our cruise at sea. Concerning dining room menus, certainly the food was decent by my standards, but some of the selections were either too esoteric, or exotic for my tastes, especially on Chef's night. They also charged me a $15 corkage fee for the wine that I brought to the table. I usually like light Italian wines provided by select local areas in Italy and have them delivered to my local distributor for purchase. I trust their taste and quality and found that this is the only dependable way to purchase good tasting wine. The shows were always crowded. Some of the shows in the smaller clubs were difficult to see due to overcrowding. The pool water near the bandstand was always over crowded with people in them making the water cloudy. Oh yes, the deck chairs around the pool always seem to be taken before I would get up there at 9 AM in the morning. One has to wonder about the pool staff receiving tips from the passengers to reserve the seating even though it states by the pool that reserving chairs are prohibited. All in all, a very overly crowded,, rude awakening to the new world of cruising as we have experienced it his time around on Princess. I doubt that my wife and I will be on any Princess cruises every again, since they tend to breed the type of rude, obnoxious, free for all passenger that should be avoided by all. Read Less

This was my first Princess cruise and my last. I have sailed HAL 6 times, RCCL twice, NCL 4 times, Carnival once, Celebrity once, and Premier (formerly Disney's line) twice. I've sailed on everything from NCL's former S.S. Norway to the Radiance of the Sea and Noordam and everything in between. The Crown Princess only made me extremely eager to return to HAL or Carnival! I booked an outside unobstructed view and a friend I had met on the Volendam years ago booked an outside with an obstructed view. Obviously my cabin was more expensive than hers, yet it was smaller. And I mean tiny. The only seat was the desk chair. To watch TV (on a shelf over the desk)you had to get into bed. There was an occasional table located directly in your path on entering the cabin and over the wastebasket. I put the table on the floor in the closet area so you wouldn't have to walk past it sideways on entering the cabin. My friend at least had a chair near this table to allow you to relax without crawling into bed. Her cabin was slightly larger, but cost less money because of looking at a life boat outside the window. To top this off I was awoken every morning at 6:10 AM by noise above my cabin. The front desk manager said it was probably a galley area for the Lido and to call them should it happen again. On leaving San Juan we stayed up to watch the fort as we sailed past it at midnight. We went to the casino after that and didn't turn in until around 2 AM. You guessed it, the same noise 4 hours later. I jumped out of bed and called the front desk. When awoken like this I can't fall back to sleep. This was our day in St. Thomas. I had wanted to go into Charlotte Amalie and then to a beach in the afternoon. With 4 hours sleep and the heat I came back to the ship and took a 2 hour nap instead of the beach after going into town. Nice way to spend a day in one of my favorite ports! I was awoken by the same noise at the same time on the day we disembarked the ship. I find it hard to believe that the management of the ship has no clue as to which members of their staff are working in certain areas of their ship at any given time. If they did, then why wouldn't they restrict this work when a passenger reports it is disturbing their sleep? Back to the bad joke - How tiny was it? I'm 6'1" and to wash my feet in the shower I had to push my head into the shower curtain and lean out into the bathroom. How tiny was it? I had to bend over to get my hair under the showerhead! Oh for the bathtubs on HAL! Management failed again with "management" of their "Personal Choice" dining rooms. We requested the traditional Botticelli dining room but were 242nd on the wait list. An obvious indication that people prefer this arrangement. Our travel agent recommended calling for reservations in the personal choice dining rooms when we had some idea of when we would like to dine that day. Fortunately we did this on the 3 days we did try either the Michelangelo or Da Vinci dining rooms. Unfortunately we went! The first formal night we waited between 30 and 40 minutes for the main course after the salad course. Fortunately we met some nice people and were having a good conversation to make this delay less noticeable. On another night we decided to forgo desert and coffee to see the show. We heard that Princess had added another deck to this ship but didn't increase the size of the public spaces to accommodate these additional passengers. This was evident when we went to the Princess Theater and there wasn't a seat to be had. I suggested we return the the dining room and talk to a couple we had met from England. They were still there, so I told the waiter we missed him so much that we came back. His comment was "That's why we're here - to serve you." Not thinking quickly enough I should have said "That's why we're here - to pay your salary!". The second formal night we were told there was a one hour wait to get in if you didn't have a reservation. It was very uncomfortable walking around all of these fellow passengers standing in line waiting to be seated. This is never an issue with traditional seating. For whatever reason that evening, there wasn't a member of the bar staff to take our drink order at our table that evening. I wanted a Tom Collins. Our waiter was from a country in Eastern Europe, apparently didn't understand this, and asked me to write it down for her. How could she take a correct dinner order if she couldn't understand something as simple as this? This was also the evening for surf and turf. They were listed as 2 individual entrees on the menu. I indicated I would like the lobster and beef wellington to make a true surf and turf. The following was placed in front of me - a plate with the lobster and sides, a plate with the beef and sides, and another plate with beef and sides. After reviewing her notes the 3rd plate was given to a gentleman across the table. She then took the lobster off the first plate and put it onto the one with the beef. Nothing like having food plated right in front of you while you're wearing a tuxedo! Now I made the mistake of wanting pepper for some of the side dishes. Fresh ground pepper was never offered at any of the 3 times in either of these dining rooms. Trouble was, there wasn't a salt and pepper shaker on the table for self service. I do believe this was to be a formal dining experience? Or McDonald's as the above indicates? Again, 2 dining rooms, 3 different tables and servers, all with issues. It comes back to the management or lack thereof. McDonald's always knows to provide salt and pepper, but Princess doesn't! The Horizon Court Buffet had good food, but a horrendous layout. There wasn't enough room to pass between the various stations if there happened to be a person at each station. There also wasn't a clearly marked entrance or exit. This resulted in people entering the stations from opposing ends and clashing in the middle. There wasn't one station allocated to condiments. A case in point was the morning I wanted pancakes. The butter was 30 feet from where the pancakes were. Now where's the syrup? On a tray 2 feet prior to where you pick up the pancakes? Whatever the designers of this mess were drinking, I want some! I enjoyed all of the islands except Grand Turk. Again this was Princess' fault! Since this was my first time here I decided to try the Grand Turk Hop On/Hop Off Island Tour to get an overview of the island. I enjoy lighthouses and thought this would be a good way to see theirs at the opposite end of the island from where we docked. Wrong! There were 3 stops to get on or off. One was the lighthouse. Another was a prison. Why you would want to see this on an island vacation escapes me. The last was "the town shopping area". The only thing visible at the bus stop were trees and vegetation on the opposite side of the street. There wasn't so much as a t-shirt shop and no indication by either of the bus drivers coming or going as to where the town or shops were located. I believe Princess charged about $36 for this fiasco. That's the first and last time they'll be getting the same from me. I'm guessing it would have been about a $10 cab ride for the 6 mile trip to the lighthouse. Other people complained about taking a horse and carriage ride where the driver took them to a run down area to point out where they played basketball as children. Why? To fill Princess' pockets, thats why. I should have stayed at Margaritaville. I think I will on my next Carnival cruise. The other major events that lacked forethought were on the 2 formal nights. The captain spoke in the 3 story atrium. Since he spoke twice that evening that would mean about 1,500 people would be there each time. Many were. If you had x-ray vision you could see him through the 3 or 4 people crowding the railing in front of you. The same went for the second formal night when they poured champagne down a tower of champagne glasses. Logic would indicate having these events in the Princess Theatre. Oops I forgot, that space wasn't large enough for everyone onboard either! The bus ride home was another disaster. We waited 40 minutes for 2 people, who as it turns out, were already on the bus. Once headed home, I had to get up and tell the driver to turn around to get us to the next stop. By then he had to get onto an interstate highway and drive 15 minutes to the next exit to turn around. Then he couldn't get a ticket to get into the airport to drop us off because the bus wasn't pulled far enough forward for the ticket dispenser to work. Nothing else worked on this cruise, so why should that? I have never put so many negative comments on a comment card before. The public areas of the ship were beautiful, but all of the above certainly negated anything positive I could get out of this cruise or ship. We heard similar comments from many other passengers. As you can see from my cruising experience I am fairly well versed on cruising. From this experience I must officially dethrone Princess and stomp on her crown. Read Less

No problem getting on board. Well organized and quick. Our inside cabin was spacious and very comfortable, and was well kept up during the week. I would say the highlight of the trip was the food. We ate anytime dining, and usually ate in the DaVinci room. We were very flexible, and rarely waited to be seated, to order, or to be fed. In general, the food was served hot and was very tasty, with something to please everyone, including fussy children (Caesar salad and fetuccini alfredo)!. We ate one evening in the buffet, and found it to be disappointing. Food not very hot and only so so in terms of taste, so we went back to the dining room. Breakfasts were quite nice, but again, food not always hot enough, and a bit of lack of variety for fruit. The syrup coffee machines didn't work half the time, and the coffee was very weak. My wife drinks club soda, with the soda card, and they weren't to interested in serving non-alcoholic drinks, or the soda fountain was down frequently. The ice cream bar (paying) was a big hit and was good value for money. I found the boat a bit impersonal, perhaps too many people. Friendly enough, but not terribly friendly. Movies Under The Stars was a disappointment. During the day, you can barely see anything (the screen is be very dark). The sound was loud, but did not bother me. At night, we never sat still to see a full movie, there was never any popcorn (?). I thing I would have preferred a real movie theatre indoors with the smell of popcorn. Our kids never really hooked up with the kid's club, and there was little interaction with the other families on board. Perhaps the boat is too big so you never see people more than once. We never went to any shows, saw some of the talent night and that was OK. Freddy, the shopping consultant was very funny and helpful. We had a problem with our luggage on the flight down through Atlanta with Delta airline. While it was not the fault of Princess, we found the employee of the purser's office who was supposed to co-ordinate with Delta to find our bag, less than helpful. On the final day, we found out that we were charged $200 for a long distance call (1-800) to Delta from our cabin. We contacted Delta. When we asked for that to be cancelled, we were told by a british accented Purser - it's not going to happen - the height of rudeness in my opinion. In the end they refunded half the cost. Overall, it was OK, food was good, and the ports of call were fun. Service was only OK, nothing exceptional. There was nothing really WOW or unforgettable about the Crown Princess, and I would thing twice before taking her again. My cruise...well...the islands were beautiful of course but just about everything Princess did was messed up. Starting with embarkment - 2 hours in line - 90 degrees - no shade - no water - it was very uncomfortable. They were some elderly people that they should have been concerned about but didn't seem to care. For myself, I was worried about getting fried to a crisp before the cruise even began as we had to pack our sunscreen in the stowed luggage so that was unavailable. Half of the elevators were not in use and with 3,000 passengers - ugh. The cabin was on the 7th deck and food was on the 15th which probably explains why I didn't gain but a few pounds - again, too much for the elder folks. The ship is designed in such a way that there were only 2 decks that you could go stem to stern so you had to go up to go down or down to go up - with few working elevators. The ship was poorly marked and as I am usually lost - no surprise I never knew where I was or how to get anywhere but many times I saw other "lost" people or heard "Where the heck are we?" The excursions we booked: the first one in Barbados was the Jolly Roger Pirate trip - that was a blast (which I had experienced on a previous cruise). The next day in St. Lucia was a 2 hour excursion ($82 pp) where you ride horses on the beach and go swimming. We got an hour because Princess told them we all only paid for the 1 hour trip - WRONG! When we complained (others from Princess had the same problem)- they really didn't care. We told them the 2 hour trip was being sold on the shore for $50 - same place and everything. This was Tuesday and it took them until Friday to send us a form letter, giving us a 25% refund which still was more than the shore price for the 2 hours but we only got the 1 hour. So we weren't happy about that so we canceled all other excursions and did them on our own. We did exactly what the excursion offered (chair rentals, drinks - whatever) and in each case ours was cheaper by far. Plus doing it on our own didn't limits us to only 2 hours on the beach - we typically stayed for 4 - 6 hours. The ship had no mid night buffet, no last night fancy buffet where the have the ice sculptures and food carvings, the entertainment was mediocre at best, and the food was barely passable at times. You had to pay for soda, ice cream and food at some places on the ship. To end the perfect cruise, disembarkment took us 3 hours and they never picked us up to take us back to the airport (the transfer we paid for). We called the 2 phone numbers on the transfer ticket - one was "no longer working" and the other just kept on ringing so we paid for a taxi. I'm sure I forgot some stuff but I think you get the idea. My next cruise will be back with Royal Caribbean - where I felt like royalty - not Princess where I sure did not feel like a princess!!! Read Less

I don't care what label they slapped on this ship, its a Carnival cruise ship so don't be fooled. 1) SERVICE - the pits, the staff was miserable which made the passengers miserable. The staff to passenger ratio is about 10 to 1 and they treated the passengers as a nuisance. Soda card - if you buy it, forget it; you'll never see another staff member again. 2) Food - was not edible most days, the buffet was preferable to the dinning room. If you ate in the pay restaurants, food was not bad. The ship line does not provide trays in the buffet area. So, if you have a child with you and no food tray, you have to choose, utensils or your kid's hand because you're going to have to let go of one. The only drinks provided for free are coffee/tea and water. If you're traveling with children, juice may or may not be included depending on which staff member you get and what kind of day that person is having. 3) Condition of The Ship - the ship has not been fully repaired since the tip-over. Glass panes as still shattered on the upper deck. 4) Children Services - the kiddie pool, mis-designed since the inspection, has never opened and will not open until the ship is dry-docked, in a couple of years. 5) ADA Issues - all the doors leading to the outer decks, pool areas, etc., are very heavy and manual. The doors are attached to a mechanism designed to make them automatic/handicap compliant. Since the doors are all too heavy for the mechanisms, the mechanisms have burned out and no doors can be opened by a handicapped person and or with great difficulty. The ship is not ADA compliant. A staff member advised me that they are not obligated to follow ADA Rules, they are not American. 6) What your expectations are - if you're looking to be pampered, treated like a guest or just feel welcome - this is not the cruise to be on. If you are looking to be nickel and dimed, looking to loose weight on a cruise, looking to save money at port because your docking 15 miles away from civilization - this is your cruise! This is only MY opinion. I suggest that each person form their own opinion based on their own experience. We personally found many unhappy people on this cruise from different walks of life and different age groups. It was a terrible way to waste 9 days of our life. Read Less

When I travel, I choose cruising. What I enjoy the most about it is the ability to unpack once and then go about your day. I am living on a floating hotel that takes me from one port to another. Go to a port for a few hours, explore and then leave. No commitment. Doing the long, extended stay, Club Med type vacations bore me to tears. Since 1993, I average about 2 cruises a year, more than that if the funds are there. In other words, I am a big fan of cruising. I wanted to go to Bermuda, but I did not want to do one of those 6/7 day cruises that just do Bermuda, I just wanted a simple day stop. With that in mind, I did research and discovered that only Princess has the one day Bermuda itinerary. I have never sailed Princess. Up until that point, I have only sailed with Carnival and RCCL. In the end, I have never been to Bermuda and for once, I just wanted to go to some place new. So I called my parent's travel agent and I booked my trip. Here are my evaluations The Embarkation: The best that I have ever encountered. After you get your cabin sign and sail card, there was no line to get onto the ship. Carnival and RCCL need to take lessons on how to get this done. The Crown Princess: It looks bigger on the outside than it does on the inside and it went downhill from there. The ship holds over 3000 passengers, but where do you put them? The main theatre only holds 900 people. If you wanted to get a seat, you have to show up about an hour before show time, other wise you will be standing. Even though there are signs that say, don't save seats, people did it anyway and that made things worse. Issues were the same for the pool areas and for the Movies Under the Stars. The buffet areas were tight and there was no way to get out of there without stepping or bumping into people. Being a short person, I have had numerous elbows jabbed at me on various parts of my body. Frankly, I should send Princess my medical bill for the bruises. You will wait an eternity for an elevator. Shopping areas are limited and you will get rude treatment at the inch of gold area. The exercise areas cannot accommodate the number of vacationers that want to try out a piece of equipment or take part in an exercise class to counter act the calories from the food. If you do not get there as soon and the gym opens, you will not get on a treadmill. Another thing that I found about the ship is the fact that the design was boring. For a brand new ship, there was no stand-out feature. Nothing about it made my jaw hit the floor or my eye go wide. The atrium was blah and dry. No imagination was used. The casino was small, but they did have a 2 cent slot machine. The layout of the ship did not flow. It was backwards and confusing. Repairs from the list were still visible up on the upper deck six weeks later. Cabins: More closet space than I had expected. Extra supplies, like razors, shaving cream, toothbrush, etc were not provided. Given the fact of the new Airport Regulations, you would think that Princess would have provided that for you. During the day, there was an ugly bedspread on your bed and at night, you had a white down comforter, but no sheets, or blanket. Personally, I like to have both the down comforter and the sheets. The walls are very thing. Heard the arguments that the next door neighbors were having and all of the music from downstairs. Shore excursions: For San Juan and St. Thomas, I just got off the ship and walked around. It was my 3rd time this year at both of those locations, so I have done everything that I wanted to do there. My main purpose for this trip was Bermuda. I could get through the crappy ship if I could go to Bermuda. Bermuda will make everything all worth it. One problem, there was no Bermuda. The Captain decided to take Bermuda away from all of the waiting passengers days before the scheduled port and another port will not replace it. Instead we got another lovely day at sea. I could go on, but the more I think about it, the madder I get. Entertainment: The shows were good and the comedians did try to make us laugh, but we were all too angry to laugh. Food: The pizza was the best that I have ever had on any ship. The soda card was pricey. If want to pay that high price, beware, they fill that container up with ice. You hardly get any soda. If you do get some soda, chances are it is watered down. You will get ripped off. It is better if you just buy the individual cans. Customer Service: There was none. Neither on the ship or post sailing coming from the corporate office. They will stretch the truth or lie to you to suit their own purposes. I wrote them explaining my dissatisfaction, and I got a insert-name-here form letter. It was a rather rude, 'we have your money now, too bad, so sad' form. No care at all. No customer service after the sale. All and all, I was not happy with the ship, nor with the customer service that I have encountered afterwards. They do not seem to realize that the only reason why they are in business is to serve the customer. It cost more money to get a brand new customer than to serve the ones that they have and they had forgotten about that. If you want to sail on a liner that cares about their passengers, Princess is not for you. After a lot of sailing, this was my worst cruise experience that I have ever had. Read Less

We have done well over a 100 cruises over the past 50 years, 62 of which have been Princess. As we are in Florida Nov/Dec we like to tag a cruise or two onto the end of our stay, returning home mid January. Having done a 20 day back to back on Crown for the past 2 years, and the dates fitting our plans this time, we booked this cruise again. An added bonus was reduced flights which fit in with our travel dates. Having done the Ocean Ready for Medallion pre departure, as UK passengers we had to collect the Medallion at embarkation. Embarkation was the worst ever experienced - no line for Elite passengers entering the cruise terminal, lines similar to Disney to go through security. Princess personnel unable to cope directing Ocean Ready passengers without medallions. No need to produce documentation or screenshots of Ocean Ready details but had to show passports three times and give cabin number. The whole process took 3 times longer than normal (we always check in at the same time). Once on board we went to Guest Services and requested a cruise card instead of Medallion. We dislike the Big Brother element of it and had bad experiences when it was trialled on a few passengers on Regal a few years ago. We haven’t got a smartphone either. The card was just like the Medallion - tap to get on and off ship, tap for cabin entry and tap to pay for items. Several passengers asked how we had managed to revert to cruise cards. The security people on the gates at St Thomas appreciated the card and the clarity of reading our name and comparing to our ID. Lifeboat drill was a farce. It is bad enough that Princess have turned a serious event into a musical but this time the recording with relevant information was interrupted by the Captain announcing a problem with a diesel generator and informing us of a rescheduled itinerary. We therefore werent shown how to put on a life jacket and everyone left the muster station after which the recording was broadcast again as passengers were milling around lifts and Prom Deck. Our inside cabin was perfectly adequate but I don’t like the duvets so requested a blanket instead to be told they are no longer available. I had to compromise with 2 of the smaller Movies under the Stars blankets. Apart from the revised itinerary and the windy weather preventing docking at 2 ports which resulted in an additional 4 sea days (we hate sea days at the best of times), our biggest grouse was the food. The menu choice in the MDR was mainly not to our taste and when we went in for dinner, had to complain about the quality and temperature of the offerings. Breakfast in the MDR was generally good but the same could not be said of the service. Starters were served to other tables whilst our cooked food sat at the serving station. Horizon Court was poor for cooked food in that it was often barely warm. Fried eggs were like set jelly and toast was dry and hard. There were too many themed evenings and for the first time ever on a cruise we had to resort to burger and fries for dinner from the burger bar a couple of times as at least they were cooked to order. American desserts are not to our taste but there was never a fresh fruit salad and we used the ice cream bar or the cheese offering. We certainly didn't put any weight on. Lunch was mainly taken at the International Cafe as their soup was always hot but the sandwich choice never varied as it used to. There was a better system at Afternoon tea with a variety of bread and a few sandwich fillings available. Despite a partial refit in 2018 there are areas of the ship that need addressing particularly Horizon Court seating and layout. During the whole 20 days one midship elevator was out of order, other elevators were taken out of service on a daily basis resulting in long waits for elevators, some of which by passed the deck we were waiting on. I can’t comment on the entertainment as it was much the same shows as on previous cruises but just wish there were quiet places to sit in the evening without any music. We tended to watch movies in our cabin as it was too unpleasant for Movies under the Stars. I also wish they would turn down the sound on Movies under the Stars and on deck music as this can be heard in the Sanctuary. The level of sound could produce noise induced deafness particularly for staff There was often a sewage/rotten vegetable smell on Deck 17 near the Sanctuary. Drinks service as always is very slow, even when going to the bar oneself. Even Medallion users were experiencing problems. At the bar there was only one machine to be tapped and it was a fixed unit. How they have the audacity to make an additional 18% service charge I do not know. Despite being give additional obc and some credit towards a future cruise, I am hesitant about booking Crown again. No one seems to know if the generator problem is likely to be solved soon. I would advise anyone to think twice about booking Crown especially as its Summer programme is based in Southampton and aimed at UK passengers. Read Less

The Crown Princess needs to be in dry dock for updating and renovations, along with their entertainment staff of singers and dancers. The whole ship, from outside rust to deteriorating furniture to elevators that had peeling paint on doors to non working balcony doors in staterooms - You name it, it needs repaired or replaced. The worse part was the lack of effort to correct problems. Our balcony door was extremely hard to open, sometimes it would not open at all, and yet after repeated requests to front desk staff and room steward, problem was not corrected until last day of a 10 day cruise. Entertainment singers and dancers must of been a new group that had not been together for very long. Opera singers trying to sign disco or motown did not lend itself well to a good show. Food was repetitive and uninspirational - buffet food at dinner was better than dining room. Read Less

Crown Princess is a beautiful ship, but not beautifully designed, it is all very bland in colors and finishes. One area looks like every other area. Nothing unique or memorable. Cold, cold, cold ship.... cold in your state room, cold in the restaurant, cold in the common areas of the ship. Even with the 2 room thermostat’s set on high heat, the room remained extremely cold. It is a miserable environment to be so very cold for a 10 day cruise. Anytime Dining..... the Concierge and staff of the dining room (Michaelangelo or DaVinci) will make you wait 40 minutes or longer for a seat if you do not want to sit with other couples. They often tell you that you could be seated almost immmediately if you will sit at a large table of people rather than a table for two. Treatment by Wait Staff not that good. We visited Michelangelo twice and never returned. We ate at the buffet where there was less drama. As for Crown Princess Anytime Dining... for a couple of two it is non-existent. Even when you tried to make a reservation, reservations were only available at 5:00, 5:15 and after 7:30. State Room Servicing..... staff would often not come to the cabin if you were present in the cabin, so rather than servicing the cabin twice a day, it would only be once a day in the early evening. Sheets would not be changed half way through the cruise (5 days), so we had used, dirty sheets for the last 5 days of the cruise. Theater Shows..... most cruises have a few theater musical singing and dancing shows. This cruise kicked off the week with an Opera and 1 musical. But there were many comics. So, Crown Princess does not get high marks for entertainment. Pizza..... Carnival and Princess bragged about serving the best thin crust pizza. For Carnival it was definitely true on multiple cruises, but Princess it was definitely untrue. Pizza served was often cold and did not taste as good as they have in the past. Buffet Meals..... it seems that there were less selections of food that you could eat. It also seems there was a lot of pork served during the 10 day cruise. The salad bar was very good. Would have been nice to have the option to put tune fish on the salad. Food overall at the buffet was OK, but not as good as past cruises. The way the buffets area were arranged on the Crown Price meant that by 5 pm it was difficult to find an available table near the buffet entrance. This problem was primarily caused by the inability to go directly from the buffet area to either side of the ship. It also is a possibility that folks were abandoning the dining room and heading to the buffet. State Room Condition..... clean but extremely well worn. Bathtub bottom had numerous dark stains and there was grout that was turning black... I assume it was mold. Sofa cushions kept falling off the sofa. But, the bed had a soft topper that was much nicer than previous hard beds that were very uncomfortable. State room had 2 temperature control is units on the wall. We kept the temperature on the highest warm temperature, but it was always cold, cold, cold in the room. So cold, we had to order bathrobes and wear them inside the room at all times to stay warm. Patio door never locked properly because the handle was broken and could not be moved into a normal locking position. (I checked the door numerous time and the door was locked. One time the TV satellite would not work in port because of electronic interference, so Satellite TV was not available to watch if you decided not to leave the ship. Plenty of OnDemand TV shows to watch. Now, the show you were watching would pause every few minutes, so you would miss small segments of the show (this was an everyday occurrence). These were not live shows, but one stored on the ship to play when you wanted. This pausing also happened during Satellite TV Live Shows. Twice one of the TVs completely failed. The steward showed us how to unplug and then reconnect the TV to get it working again. Our in-room safe broke the second night in the room. It took 2 calls to Service to get someone to fix it which occurred the next day. Our toilet stopped working/flushing on two different days. It took about 3 calls to get this fixed on 2 different occasions. The light on the balcony never worked, but I did not call Maintenance because I am on a vacation. I felt as if no general maintenance should occur in the state rooms, and was up to the current resident of the room to get things fixed during their 10 days in the ship. Not Good! Room Food Service..... Excellent. Food was ordered via Medallion App on the TV and delivered so fast. This area of the ship was managed and executed exceptionally. Job well done! Effy Jewelry Shop..... rings seemed to be $5000.00 and over. I think most people on this cruise would leave these pieces behind - prices were just too expensive, especially when compared to similar items at various shops in the ports of call. Medallion..... Works very well. I observed no faults at all. Very useful in terms of embarking on and disembarking off the ship during port calls. Originally, when we enrolled in the Medallion program, we were told that we would have a fast check-in and check-off the ship. This is a bit of misinformation because if 300 people were in the line to check-in, it still took 30-45 minutes of standing in a long line to check in. Same thing with getting off the ship. So, part of the lengthy process has been solved, but definitely not the entire process. There are some bad parts of the Medallion..... State Room staff would check to see if a passenger were in their state room, and not come to clean the state room as scheduled until the passenger(s) left the room. If the passenger(s) did not leave the room until 1:00 pm, then the state room staff were gone from the floor, so cleaning the room only occurred in the early evening. If you want to have the ice bucket filled in the morning or afternoon, you are out of luck. The GPS of the Medallion is being over-used by Room Service a tad. An example would be.... I ordered a sandwich one afternoon in my husband’s name. I remained in the state room while my husband walked around the ship. Room Service was trying to catch up with my husband, rather than bringing the food to the state room. Eventually, Room Service did contact me in the State Room asking if I would accept the sandwich. So, this is an example of the Medallion users going a little nuts. Another example of the Medallion problem is the kiosks in the common areas of the ship. The kiosks had a timeline of all event happening on the ship. I placed my medallion on the kiosks to check an evening out, and my name and photo never disappeared from the kiosk. It remained there for the entire evening. This is a violation of my privacy. The Medallion also keeps your full name posted on your state room kiosk. Again, this is another violation of my privacy. If a single woman were in a state room, why would she want her single full name posted on her door kiosk. The fact is, she would not want to advertise there was only one person, a woman, in the state room. On port calls, shop personnel would often ask for your ship card when you were making a purchase. We don’t have ship cards, we have a Medallion. Nobody from the Crown Princess bothered to notify any shop in port about the Medallions. So, this was a bit of a problem. Bottom Line...... I am not sure that I want to go on another Princess Cruise. Extremely cold room, food and entertainment was uninteresting, lack of state room service, room having many issues, etc. Read Less

Leaking ceilings on two occasions, our clothing was soiled from leaking directly into our closet; repairs by on board plumbers failed twice. TV needed repair, thermostat refused to function needing repair. In the course of all these issues we began to believe we were certainly not aboard a Princess cruise ship and certainly not the same Crown Princess we had sailed just a few months past in August 2019. Ocean view room requested resulted in room fully obstructed by lifeboat that prevented seeing the island or any of the area beauty; we did see the interior of the lifeboat. The Production Shows and the Anytime Dining in the Michael Angelo Room were outstanding in every respect, and the ship's decorations for the Christmas celebration were memorable! Read Less
